I typed "0" in a seperate text box than the "2005" and then just moved it over top of the year to make the "ears". I think I scaled the zero up a little, too. Just play with it until you think it looks good.
Also, thank you all for you kind comments. I think if I didn't hear anything, I wouldn't have been brave enough to follow through with putting the design on shirts. Thank you so much.
Aahh - very clever :0)
Thanks

Hi all! I'm all better. For whatever reason, from time to time, I get pain in my leg joints and I'm just miserable for a while.
Anyway, I was able to lie in bed (haha!) and do the Word design on my laptop for the Prince and Princess Shirts. I've got it available for download for anyone interested. And please, let me know if there are any problems printing or anything.
Thanks!

After searching encarta for all the correct flags - I have finished my Food and Wine Shirt -
my plan is to put this on the back of my shirt - and have a wine glass on the front where the pocket usually is (just a plain white t-shirt) - and maybe my name under the wine glass :) HEHE...

I got the weekly flier for A. C. Moore today & they have Hanes tees 2/$5...assorted sizes & colors. Also, they are advertising the large size tie dye kit for $14.99, regular price $19.99. I'm not sure if Jo Ann's and Michael's will price match or not. That large size kit will do a lot of tees...I think 20, maybe???
Wal Mart "might" price match the shirts...not sure about the kit since I don't think the brand name was specified.

I thought that would be a good idea, but isn't it against copyright laws? I even wonder about the guy that airbrushes our shirts each year with characters....I'm guessing since he's a larger vendor that he's got licensing rights for certain ones, but still I'd be afraid of getting sued.

I ordered six tank tops, size 4-6, and the shipping and handling was $7.95, so it really brought the t-shirts back to $5 a piece. I ordered white.
Did you get Hanes? I got Hanes from Zazzle last year and they were supposed to be the heavy duty cotton. They were okay, but thinner. The guy that does our airbrush shirts each year uses Gildan Ultra Heavyweight Cotton....double stitched, taped from corner seam to seam and they feel really nice and wash well. That is what I ordered and they were 2.48 each, with shipping it brought the 4 shirts to 3.94 each. Another thing with the Gildan ones is they show color really well. Not sure about saturated color, as we've not tye dyed any of them yet but as far as color like airbrushing and decals, they've really been BRIGHT! Our Zazzle Hanes shirts are faded after only a few washes :(
I like the Gildan shirts over the Hanes ones I've seen over the years with homemade shirts and regular every day shirts we've bought....so I'm happy paying that for each of them. And still your deal at 5.00 per shirt wasn't really bad :) although that shipping could have been less probably as I doubt it takes much more to mail 6 shirts over 4.

The first pictures are of the front of the shirts, my daughter always wants to be an animal so she is Goddard. My son is Jimmy Neutron and we are the mom and dad from Jimmy Neutron. Last year my daughter was puss in boots from Shrek, I was Fiona, my husband was Shrek and my son was Donkey. The last picture is how are names look on the back, with the neutron design around them. He made the boys backgrounds blue and the girls purple :)

For anyone wanting to venture on their own - I downloaded a 30 day trial of photoshop and I picked up a few books on photoshop from the library today. My thought is to buy an older version (ie - MUCH cheaper) after my trial period expires. Photoelement seems like an option, too.
Anyway, that's what I did to "play around" a bit without spending any $$$ on software.

Nuzmom - that sounds like a good idea, and if it doesn't work out, you aren't out a lot of money. My trouble is that I don't want to spend a lot of money on these softwares to find out that I stink at making them work!! Let us know how it works out.

The Gildan shirts are from Cheapestees.com, and they are the Ultra Heavyweight cotton shirts, they also sell a normal Gildan shirt but I don't have any experience with them.
The airbrushing places can usually be found at any mall (the center stands throughout the larger malls usually have them) or you can search online for airbrushing artist. Sometimes there are some listed in your phone book too :)

How did you get a private meet and greet? Just stumble upon it? I LOVE that shirt!
I love all the shirts! I want one of everything!
We went for Julia's 3rd birthday last October and we went to Belle's storytime our first day - on her actually BD she wanted to go back - Belle does a meet and greet after the show with all the kids and she remembered Julia from the previous visit - Julia had on a shirt (I posted it earlier in the thread) that said it was her BD - Belle picked her up and had the whole line sing Happy BD to her - so on our last day in WDW - Julia asked to go back - which we did -
when the show was over Belle came over and picked Julia up - thanked her for coming to see her again and hugged and kissed on her - it was very sweet - so I wrote Disney a letter about how awesome Belle was -
the week before my May trip - they called to ask if they could print the letter in the cast newsletter - of course I agreed and asked what days we could find our Belle at her storytime - she is no longer Belle :guilty: we were very sad and I asked what she was doing now and the girl told me she would find out - I left for my trip with no information - 2 days into the trip they callled me on my cell - Belle wanted to see Julia and could we meet her at the Castle later in the week - UH YEA!
so we went - Julia took best friends bracelets and gave the Best one to Belle - they talked forever and then Belle asked if she wanted to go for a walk and ride the teacups!!!
It was the best thing in the whole world!!!!!!! Julia thought she was on :cloud9: and my mom and I were snapping pictures through our tears!!
now the problem is that Julia thinks she is going to ride the carousel with Belle this time - I explained that was the only time we could do something so special with Belle -
her response - "OH - well then let's write Jasmine a letter!!!" :rotfl: She's a smart little cookie!!!

Midnite,
Your designs are out of this world. Here's what I've come up with so far - any ideas? I don't want names on it, but I wanted something cute. I was hoping for something to put on a white, red or blue shirt.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3605/mnsshp3eu.jpg
Any help would be appreciated. Heck, redo it if you'd like. We just love Mickey and our daughter will be dressed as Minnie Mouse for the party. I was hoping to do something that would tie everything together, but my brain is not cooperating!

Anyone care to teach me how to use downloaded fonts? I downloaded waltograph ( I think) and I don't know what to do with it once it is downloaded.
Assuming you're on PC...
Easy way to do it:
Go to the font you downloaded, right click it, do Copy (or Ctrl+C).
Then go to Start, Run.. and type in "C:\Windows\Fonts" (without the quotes) and once there right click and Paste (or Ctrl+V).
Then you use it by selecting the name of the font from your list in whatever program you're using.
Yeah, I know there's another way to do it that I find more reliable, but this is the quicker, easier way. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll walk you through the more involved way.

what fonts do you work with most that go with the Disney font best? For instance, the 50th Anniv/Mickey Aug 2005, I really like the font across the top, the Magical Family one with the shadow. What is that one called?

Rissa's MoM I love your shirts/ How did you do the design for the princess meal.
I dowloaded the free 30 day trial of PhotoImpact 10 that was mentioned earlier.
I started with a regular 8 1/2 x 10 new image with a white background.
Chose a background color and and did a bucket fill of the page.
The I used the "photo frame gallery"and chose a shape I liked. (This took trial and error) and when you pull the fame off it leaves a blank area where it was.
I added fireworks by choosing the ones I liked from the "Creative Lighting Gallery"
Then I added a picture of the castle I found by doing a google search. There are a ton of them out there to choose from. (To get rid of white backgrounds on the clip art use the "object magic erase tool" )
I added Tinkerbell again I found her on a search.
Then the princesses.
Added text, experimented with fonts and colors.
It just takes some time fooling around and alot of using the edit - undo feature!
Now I just have to find someone with a printer that does better picture quality then mine!
I can't begin to be as good at this as Midnite! But it makes me feel good that I made this and it look decent.
Ps. I'd be happy to email you a copy without my text on it.

Midnite----I love it!!!! Thanks so much, I can't wait to show it to my family!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I need help---because I am pretty dumb with the computer. How do I print this out. I know I have to buy specail paper. Can you recommend any? Also do I need to download it off the internet and into some program on my pc? Please help. I know I sound pretty dumb---huh?!
I love all your designs, I am actually going to use the princess scroll one for DD too.
Thanks again!!!! :earsboy:

Save the image to your computer (your desktop would be a good place). Click the link from the TShirt page and then right click the image and do Save Picture As...
Open your Paint program (Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint)
Open up the picture in the Paint prorgram. (File, Open)
Select Image, Flip/Rotate
Then print it on your transfer paper (File, Print)
This is assuming you need to flip the picture. Read your instructions that will come with the transfer paper.
And keep in mind I've not actually printed any shirts, just done the designs :rolleyes1

Midnite,
Thank you for the designs!!! Could you make a change to the Birthday boy's?
Instead of Celebrating Danny's 5th Birthday at the top, can you change that one to "It's my 5th Birthday" and then take it off the bottom?
Thanks! I can't wait to print them up in the next couple of months! I might make a few more from some of your other designs too!

Okay, I have made what I think is a very cool iron-on image. Then ruined three seperate shirts trying to get it to go on right. I used two different types of transfer sheets. And it partially comes out well, then it sticks to the shseet and won't come off, and not in the same place or the same way on any of the shirts. I can see how that it if came out right it would be awesome! But it is so disheartening to see these shirts ruined. UGH.
1. Any tips, preferred type of transfer paper, etc. to doing this?
2. Any ideas on how to get ruined transfers off a perfectly good shirt?
BTW, I tie-dyed some shirts for our October. I cut the rubber-bands off and they looked awesome!!! Then I had a little leakage during washing, and the whites aren't totally white. But after two washings, THEY ARE AWESOME! I am very pleased!!!
THanks for teaching us all the tips about how to do the mouse ears!!!!

I love these designs!
We're going to WDW for a week next March. We'll be celebrating my daughter's 7th birthday while we're there. (it's our first trip at all with the kids) I want to make cure T-shirts for both my kids (and maybe my niece whose family will be travelling with us).
I want to make a design about my daughter's birthday without it saying "It's my birthday" since it techincally won't be (and she's a very literal kid, she wouldn't let me get away with it). How would you word it? I want her to wear some version of the birthday shirt each day, but maybe customizing them to each park (or maybe I should just make 6 of the same shirt for each day we're there).
And ... so the entire emphasis of the trip isn't just on the one child (and so there's no "how come she got a special shirt?" issues) ... how do I word T-shirts for the other two kids? "My First Disney Trip" ??? Too lame?
Any and all ideas most welcome!

Hiedi, how about "I'm celebrating my 7th birthday"?
I would do different designs for each day...you don't want all your pictures to show the same shirt in all of them! :)
We are doing the same thing in December with friends and it will be their kids first trip to Disney so I plan on making them shirts that say "First Disney Trip" and names and year on the back of the shirt. Not sure yet what design I want to do yet for them since they will be 8 and 10 when we go.

Are you following the directions to the letter? That's very important. You have to use a hard surface & not an ironing board. Use the exact heat setting specified & iron for the time it says. Make sure your shirts are the correct fiber content, etc. As for a preferred type of paper, Hanes/Transfer Magic (same thing) offers an "Oops" guarantee. If you mess up a shirt using their paper, they will remimburse you for the cost. You can order the paper online (as Hanes) or buy it at Hobby Lobby or Jo Ann's (Transfer Magic). I've also use Avery paper with good success.

I have just sat here and read all 44 pages of this! It's been a really long lunch for me. :rotfl2:
I hope to PM one of you soon, probably j&n's mom since midnite seems overloaded. I need to think of what I want for us.
We will be a mixed group, me, DH, DD, DS, my mother, my niece and her boyfriends, so 4 different last names. First trip for boyfriend, niece hasn't been in 7 years, mom comes with us fairly often, and we go a lot.
It will be our first trip home as DVC members, just lots going on.
I do love the turquoise retro Mickey, I thought maybe all of our first names would be cute on it, with the circles reading November, 2005. I also love the fireworks mickey head. That would be cute on a darker color shirt. Then we could have dark, white and tie dye. Wonder if the boyfriend would be willing to wear matching shirts? He is 24, but is like a little kid with his first trip to WDW.
Also loved the tie dyes, I will have to get on that.
We will be leaving in 3 weeks for Mt. Rushmore so maybe I could try some basic tie-dye before that.
Wow guys, you are awesome! I am not at all creative, but love what you have done.

THanks bunches. I just went back and read and re-read. Mine did not say not to use an ironing board. I can certainly see NOW how that is not the best surface, but my Xerox paper instructions didn't say that anywhere. UGH. I am sure that is what cause the iron-ons to transfer unevenly. What hard surface do you use? Tile floor?
Thanks again.

I'm doing the same thing!! (internet service down, but picking up signals from the free wi fi around the bend!!)
And I was going to ask you about a web page of all your wonderful creations as well as midnite's!!
Do I understand correctly - IF you put them on the web, well Midnite put them on the web, so then I can "right click" and then "save as" into my documents, then I can put it in paint. . . or download what you shared that you are using.... ok, so, now I have the design, can I then "tweak" it to subtract the names on it - - then add our names???
BTW - the Lady and the Tramp anniversary one... awwww... it wasnt meant for me, but I'd like to tweak that one too... you see, I went to Disneyworld in 1977, and gave my 'friend' my itinerary, and he called me, and asked me to prom - I then bought a lady and a tramp, gave him lady, I kept tramp while we went to different colleges... ff to today - we're still together, married, and heading to DISNEY!! :flower:

You're very welcome! :)
I really think that was the problem...the heat wasn't transferring evenly over the entire transfer. Strange that Xerox didn't have that as an instruction because all the papers I've ever used did have it. Shame on Xerox! :sad1:
For a hard surface I use my kitchen table or a countertop. You need to have the surface about waist high or so in order to be able to comfortable apply even pressure as you are ironing. Some of the transfer papers suggest putting an ironing pad underneath the shirt to help distribute the heat but Avery suggests a pillowcase folded in half & that's what I use. Make sure all wrinkles are pressed out of it or that will keep the transfer from printing evenly.
Another thing...if you begin to peel away the paper and a spot doesn't want to come loose, just lay the paper back down & iron over that spot again. Often, that will be all you need to do. Also, try to peel from top to bottom, not just down from a corner, because that will keep the design from stretching as you reveal it. Good luck on your next try...you CAN do it!

I'm fortunate enough to have a smooth top stove. I figured, hey, that's a smooth heat-resistant surface! I've used it for iron-ons twice now, with great results.

They should download as a jpeg and then you can open them in paint - I prefer word - I think it is easier to layer and add word art to it -
to put in in word - go to Insert - Picture - From File and then choose the pic - it will then be in your word document and you can resize it - add words to it at will

No, unfortunately it will pixelate if it's a bitmap type image (which it is).
One of the hardest things for me (besides finding fonts out of my 1k+ stash) is finding a nice large picture to use so it won't pixelate as much. If you look closely at some of mine, they are a tad pixelated in areas. :crazy2:

Ok, I've been monitoring this thread and have finally found time to work on a transfer for our upcoming October trip. My 3 sons all have birthdays within weeks of each other so they all want the opportunity to celebrate at Disney. We're going to let each of them pick a day to celebrate and I think I will use this to do a shirt for us all. I may also do hats, 4 that are for those of us not celebrating a birthday and one birthday hat that they can wear on the day they choose for their celebration. My ds7 has been telling everyone that his party is going to be at Disney this year. He actually turns 8 the day after we return home. Here is the transfer. What do you think?

HI ya'll!!
FYI!!!
Wal mart has really nice plain t-shirts in different colors on sale fo $3.00 each! They aren't the undershirts ones, these ones are regular t-shirts!
So i got a couple for DH and DS, and also for DD's over at the kids dept.
I am gonna try to Iron-ons for all of us, ebay got good deals on Iron-on paper. 40 sheets for $13.00 w shipping.

OMG, didn't even think of that!
I think that would be cool - '*** then we'd recognise each other as Disers :0)
I downloaded photoshop 7 last night but it looks way to scary so I'm going to stick with my serif photo plus. I just figured out how to do shapes and downloaded a file full of fonts... now to get creative...

OK, so once I have my design, do I just print it out on iron-on transfer paper from my home printer?
Can you tell, I am pretty dumb  ????? I have never done this before, and feel totally out of place.
On a good note, I am going to buy the t-shirts and transfer paper today at either Michaels or AC Moore :sunny:

Oh my gosh!!! I posted way back on the first couple of pages of this thread with our Tyed dyed Mickey Shirts and come back and find all this!! These designs are so far above anything I've ever done. I'm embarrased to have posted our shirts! Haha. You are all so cool sharing and helping each other out. Is anyone still taking requests? I'd love to surprise my family with shirts for our December trip. It's for my birthday (I'm thinking I'll try to modify that "treat me like a princess" one to wear on my day), but we've convinced my husband's parents to come with us. They haven't been since EPCOT opened!! I hate to ask but I'm getting nowhere on my own. Thanks and keep the ideas coming!!!
PS Midnite and J&N's mom you are inspirational!!!!
PSS How old until you can't be a princess anymore? See above tshirt idea.

I really want to do the princess one for my birthday - what font did you use so I can put my name in the middle?
I've started a couple of designs this afternnon - I might share them with you guys to see what you think.
Edited to add: Oh and I downloaded Photo Impact - it's great! Taken me a couple of hours to get my head around it but I made a cool invitation for my @home wedding reception - just gotta show it to the DH2B when he gets home... and wonders why I've not tidied the house... this thing is addictive :rotfl:

I am so sorry if this was already asked but trying to read though all the posts is taking so long with the girls watching over my shoulder.
For the tye dye shirts has anyone used a sweatshirt instead of a t-shirt? Will it take just as well? With goign in Jan I am thinking a sweatshirt would get more use all week.

Thanks MidNite, I have tried that site, but with only the letters CARNIVAL spelled out on their site with that font, I dont have enough info to even get close! LOL I guess I will just look at ALL the fonts and eventually one will come close!
I also wanted to add, I think it is great that your helping all these DISers stand out in the crowd! Very Hanname of you!

a standard transfer sheet is 8.5 x 11 - which for my kids shirts would be too big - but probably just right for an adult
I have been making mine on an 11 x 14 canvas so that it is definately big enough -
