If something is fat free or sugar free it doesn't matter how much you eat of it. It's healthy afterall, right?

Calories don't matter if you are doing low carb!

Diets are only temporary--once you're done you can go back to "normal"
Also, the cabbage soup diet is a healthy and effective way to lose weight (seriously, the first time someone told me about this I thought they were pulling my leg...)

Ok flame suit on....people who think atkins is healthy. It's not people. Just wait til all that fats starts clogging up your arteries and the heart attacks start a-coming! Just b/c the guy who came up with diet is an MD doesnt make it a safe and healthy lifestyle!

ITA. Lower carb is ok, Atkins is not. Sadly, I'm predicting an upcoming onslaught of kidney failure due to this plan.
Favorite diet myth - You can lose weight by just taking these pills, and not change your eating habits. :rotfl: Don't we all wish!

Ahh if you get lipo then you'll never get fat in that area again. OOO big big myth. The lipo takes out some fat cells. And though no new fat cells will grow there, the remaining fat cells will increase in size and then you will be fat there once again!

Pixiedust: Thanks for your reply. I agree with bits and pieces of the diet, but I love my carbs WAAAAAY too much! One of my actually healthy looking teachers thinks she needs lipo! Should I tell her that it probably isn't worth it?
Honu: I agree with the diet pill myth! :rotfl2:
Keep it Going!@!

Eating healthy means cutting out as much fat as possible because all fats are bad for you. Big myth!!

If you eat standing up, the calories and fat go straight to your feet. (Wouldn't you rather have big feet than huge hips??)
Weigh yourself at night after a big meal and then again in the morning before you eat breakfast and be AMAZED at how much weight you lost overnight while sleeping!!
Keep all of your tempting snack foods way up high on a shelf or the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights.

karynnix-They are? :rotfl: I'd rather have big feet, personally!
Doe-yup! My skinny teacher who thinks she's fat believes that too!
It's anazing how many there are! Thanks!

If you put this exercise belt around your tummy it will help make it go flat (remember that product, they finally took it off the market).
But the diet coke, brownie cancelling each other out is true.

Just a fun little thread designed to dispel the worst weight loss myths. Hmmmm... great thread! Let's see... what has my experience taught me?
Myth: You have to lose weight using the a program you can stick with for life.
Myth: Exercise is optional. (And once folks get over that myth, they move onto this myth: The only exercise I need to do is aerobic exercise.)
Myth: Liquid diets are always unhealthy and never work.
Myth: You don't have to worry about your weight until you have a problem. (Yeah, right -- just tell that to my MRI!!!)
Myth: All doctors know everything about nutrition.
Myth: Natural foods are always better than artificial.
Myth: I can eat as much of _________ as I want because it is a good _______.
Myth: Psychology and sociology don't matter. (Or the converse myth: The biological science doesn't matter.)
Myth: It worked for me so it'll work for you. (Or: It didn't work for me so it won't work for you.)
Myth: I don't need to keep track; I can do it in my head.

I keep hearing this one at WW meetings and the people who tend to say it aren't losing!!!!!
BTW, I'm from Burlington, MA, too!

I learned this one the hard way! Two hours a day of intense exercise isn't enough to combat my natural appetite!

Twizzlers are a diet candy! (Fat Free)
So are Marshmellows? (Who's on the marketing team for these brands?)??

Laurajean: i agree! I don't know who is on the marketing team, but I wish I knew because just b/c they are fat free doesn't mean they are calorie-/carb-/POINTS-free! Thanks for posting!
Myth: Spot Reducing - You can do crunches all day long and it won't get rid of the fat around your stomach.

OOOO good one. You need to get rid of the fat with cardio and reducing caloric intake. Then you can go ahead and build up the muscle and defn so that it can be seen! (Or you could build up the muscle and then lose the fat.)

Myth: You must lift weights after you do cardio.
Actually it's just the opposite. You should do weights first, or better yet do those workouts at two different times of the day.
I love these myths, especially the one about keeping track of what you eat in your head. I've been doing that for a year and I gained back 1/2 of the 50 lbs. I had lost. I also mindlessly put a piece of low-fat swiss cheese in my mouth not 5 minutes ago.

pixiedust/JDM: Good one!!!
swilphil: Really? Why should weights go first? I didn't think I was that clueless about exercise. Oops!
Thanks for responding!
swilphil: Really? Why should weights go first? I didn't think I was that clueless about exercise. Oops!
Weights should be done first since your body will deplete its glycogen stores during intense weight training. Then when you do cardio your body will look for an alternate form of energy(ie: fat) since glycogen is no longer available.
