What would be your #1 reason for selling?

So let's turn it around.

What would be the one reason for you to want to sell your DVC membership!

I have my own answer but would like to hear others.

The expensive cost of non-DVC resort trips, including a Disney cruise and the Concierge Collection. We like more vacation options. Unless DVC were to triple the CC options and bring in some more reasonably-priced options, we probably will not stick around for 40 or so years. I sure would like to see CC properties in New Orleans, also the Beau Rivage in Mississipi (I think), Calloway Gardens in Georgia, and more CC properties in Florida such as Key West and Sanibel and St Augustine, etc. etc.

I guess the only thing that would make me want to sell would be successive years where dues were raised to an unreasonably high amount. I suspect that I'd have a difficult time selling if that actually was to happen, so I guess there's no way I'd sell ;o). I don't worry about the management or upkeep at all. Look at the Poly and Contemp.....both around 30 years old and as well-kept and popular as ever.

We'd sell if our financial situation changed to the point we could no longer afford to take an annual vacation at WDW. Although we love DVC and can't imagine selling our interest, WDW vacations are a long way from our top priority.

I echo some of the sentiments regarding selling. I'd have to be in DIRE financial straits before I'd sell my DVC. Earlier this year, I lost my job and the FIRST thing I told my DH was that I was NOT going to sell DVC. Everything else would be sold before I touched that. As it turned out, I was working within a few weeks, and never had to consider a sale.

Someone else will have to sell my DVC contracts. Wheather it will be my Wife, Son or estate attorney, I don't know. Since I'll be dead, it really doesn't matter. Hopefully I'll see the end of the program in 2042 when I'm 82 years old....spruce

I would never sell... I would rent my points for a few years if we hit dire straights... But our contracts are paid off & we're keeping them!!! No matter what!

These are great responses and I agree with the reasons completely.

I'm also looking for things such as nickglover mentioned. That is, what changes could Disney make that would make you want to sell.

We know Disney will not breach the contract, but what "perks" or other implied benefits might they change that you would consider to be so important that you would want to sell if you lost them.

This is inspired somewhat by sgtpet's decision not to buy based on a perceived loss of flexibility, or at least the higher cost for that flexibility.

Personally, the kicker for me revolves around the implied promise that Disney made regarding the annual maintenance fees. If those really did rise 15% a few years in a row, it might make me upset enough to sell.

On the other hand, they can only raise the fees if the actual costs go up, which would have to be some pretty wild general inflation going on in the country, which would make the DVC deal seem even better.

So I guess I can't think of anything that would make me sell since the main reasons I bought are all contractually guaranteed!

As long as the point structure for a week's stay did not change to drastically there would nothing other than a poor turn in our job situations that would cause us to sell. The cruise options/exchanges/DC, etc. were never a sound reason to join the DVC. Much better deals are out there for all of these types of stays outside of anything that the DVC can offer. We joined at HH because we knew that someday the passes would just be to darn costly for the constant return trips.

Well, maybe not that extreme. But we would have to be at the point financially that the need for basic food and shelter required us to part with our contract. Especially since it is paid off and all we are pay now are dues ! If I can't come up with an extra sixty or so dollars a month, DVC dues will be the least of my troubles :eek: .

I would only sell after:
- Losing my job
- Pulling my 2 girls out of college
- A complete withdrawal of my retirement accounts
- The IRS catches up with me
- Turning over my disabled favorite aunt to state care
- We run out of rice for our main course
- The trailer Park gets hit by a tornado

Then I would (might) sell. JUST KIDDING!

I bought into DVC for one reason. To stay at WDW in a DVC resort as often as I can. This is about all that is guaranteed with the DVC contract and unless that possibility changed, I would not sell.

Since I don't expected Disney to ever allow it's resorts to fall into disrepair, then the only reason I can see is an illness which wouldn't allow DW and I to enjoy a vacation.

There is probably nothing that could make me sell!!! Unfortunately, I will be about 92 when my DVC membership is up, they will probably have to carry me to Disney and push me around in a hospital bed . . . but if I'm still living, I'm going . . . and only going to OKW!!!!

If I died, my husband would probably sell the points, as he would not be as motivated to return to Disney on an annual basis and stay onsite.

If the point system keeps rising to the level that we need more than the 900 points we have now. Obviously they won't be going down, but as it is, it's hard to afford the points for the weekends. Even with the increase, it's nice to take the cruise once in a while, but I feel DCL should not penalize point "payers" by withholding shipboard credits given to cash payers. Anyway, some will say that's not a DVC issue, but I personally feel DVC should fight for us. :bounce:
