Terrible DIS Tech Problems!

I know this should be on the Tech Board, but I want to post it here first to see if any other UKers are having problems.

I can access and post on the boards FINE in the morning (UK time), but come mid to late afternoon (Im guessing when America wakes up!!) I am having BIG problems.

The boards take an age to load, when I post a thread, it sticks about half way. If I try reposting, then half the time the ORGINAL post I tried to make has managed to post itself after all (even though it stuck on the loading page)! Its driving me NUTS!

Also, Im getting up to 3 email responses for replies to threads (I like to have this option switched on, but it is clogging my inbox getting the same reply notification 3 times for each post).

Anyone else, or just me?

All the other sites I use are fine and we have a very fast 1meg broadband connection.

Yes, I was having lots of probs yesterday, it was taking an age to reply to a thread and it took ages to even log onto the boards :crazy:

Looks like it's fine again today though :) I seem to remember something like this happening not so very long ago and it lasted all weekend! ;)

Me, too. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, sometimes its Ok, then the next minute it sticks, yesterday it took me over 10 mins to post on a thread:badpc:and I've also got fast Broadband. I thought perhaps I'd upset the Dis!!!:rotfl2:

Another one here, I have got so fed up the last few nights, that I have given up and gone to bed instead!

The replying to a thread drives me crazy, I reply, I post, it tell's me error, I go back in, redo it all, then it tells me a duplicate post.

Same here, been having those probs regularly for weeks. It's about time someone at least identified the problem even if they can't cure it!

Yeah, it seems to be when America goes online (2pm BST, is 9am EST). It seems the boards cant handle all the traffic....server problems I would guess.

Hilary, who should we contact about this?? We all love to DIS in the evenings and it is becoming increasingly more difficult (to the point of me personally, not bothering at all soon).

This morning (6:30AM) I kept getting a "database not found" message and no DIS board.

I've had exactly the same as everything allie5 described - in fact just trying to get onto page 2 of this thread took an age including being told the page was not available the first time I tried. Everything just takes so long and it's driving me :crazy: :crazy: :crazy: :crazy: :crazy: I posted on the Tech board about getting 3 or more email alerts for the same post but have not had a response. Please can someone with some influence help?????

Same again here - I've been blaming AOL for the last few weeks, I only tend to get on first thing in the morning these days when I'm eating my toast and sluriping a cup of tea down, but it's getting tooooooooo frustrating :confused3 :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc: :badpc:

You can tell the techie people but I'm not sure there's anything that can be done (says she who is not at all techie :rolleyes: ) as it would seem to be a problem of overload on the server - is the DIS a victim of its own success?

I think you've got it in one Hilary!

I know that over the years the servers have been changed and beefed up to cope with demand but this will always be on ongoing issue as the popularity of the boards increases, although I'm sure the Tech Support team are well aware of the issues and have plans in place.

If it makes you feel any better, the boards are really slow for those of us in the US as well. I use Roadrunner and it is still very slow. I think there are just so many DISers at the same time.

I think one of the problems might also be due to the proliferation of broadband technology. As peoples connections to the internet get better the amount of data requested over any period of time increases, this increases the work that the servers have to do.

When everyone had dial-up the limitation was with the client as that was by far the slowest link in the chain, now that has been speeded up significantly the bottleneck has moved elsewhere.

The techies have responded on the Tech forum....they are aware of the problem, and they are doing their level best to sort it out.

Hang in there guys, I think we will see an improvement soon!
