We had such a good time on the 04/17/05 4-Day Wonder that we have now booked the Magic Thanksgiving Cruise for 2006.
My two DS had such a great time but we have not told them yet that we are going back. It would be way too long for them to wait.
Who will be joining us? It will be great to go to Castaway Cay twice!

You can add us to the list! Tim (DH-37) and me (Jill-31). We booked this way back in October 2004. We had a 4-night cruise planned for Sept, but we just cancelled it last week due to DHs work, so we have a LONG wait till our next cruise, but it will be a good one!

I am glad to see we won't be alone. I was surprised that so few DISer's are on our cruise. We will wait and see. I am looking forward to seeing what others have say when they return from the Thanksgiving 2005 Magic. They have a big thread going and sounds like they are going to have a lot of fun.

give it time...the meet thread will grow bigger as the cruise gets closer. We cruised with the "Cruistoberfest" group last year. We all rebooked on board (we switched our date after we got home to sail on a different itinerary), but that thread for the 2006 cruise started before we even got off the ship! It is huge now!!!

Although this doesn't sound very "family friendly" I am soooo looking forward to a Thanksgiving with out the stress of having our families (Tims folks and my folks are like night and day) at our house (thanksgiving headquarters.) I am notorious for undercooking a turkey and overcooking the stuffing, so maybe the family is ready for a break, too!! :earboy2:

We are booked too!! We rebooked while onboard 4/9/05 Magic. We are a party of six, me, dh, two dd's 12 & 10 when we cruise & my parents. This will be our 3rd cruise. We had talked about trying to change our date to a less expensive time when the '07 dates come out. Still aren't sure if we will or not. I really like the idea of not cooking.

Have a great day!!!

Hi guys, I am on THIS years Thanksgiving Cruise, and I was on the 2004 Thanksgiving Cruise. Not sure yet if we will be booking onboard to sail with you guys for 2006, but I just wanted to drop in here and say hello, just in case. There may be some folks rebook while onboard this year at Thanksgiving.
I may be able to answer some of your questions about the Thanksgiving cruise, if you like. For instance, on Thanksgiving dinner, we had regular turkey, dressing, etc, OR you could order lobster. So, of course I had BOTH!

And the Christmas decorations in the terminal, onboard, and at CC are terrific.

Anyway, like I said, we will be sailing this year, so if you have specific things you would like me to check on, just let me know.I don't know how often I will be looking in here, so you may need to email or send me a PM.

We had great weather all week long.We were able to go swimming at Castaway Cay although when you first went into the water it felt cold.It was warmer though compared to what we experienced in December 2004.The seas were calm except for the first night, but other then that we had great seas.

The countdown timers just can't be right.....11 months and WHAT????? Just can't wait! With DH's new work, there is a tiny chance he won't be around for the cruise....then what's a girl to do????? GO ANYWAY! He's doing his best to make sure he's here for the cruise, he'd better! We have a quick 3- day scheduled for Feb (yes, we are that desperate for DCL that we'd go then!) but it just will be a teaser!

Glad to hear all went well on the 05 Turkey day cruise.

Welcome to the boards and the Turkey day cruise Mollygirl13.
Just back from a quick 3 - day trip on the Wonder. It wasn't too hard to leave because I new we would be back in less then a year. First night out we had rough seas. We had perfect weather in Nassau and at Castaway Cay. Could not get the kids out of the water. Already excited for next November.

Since so many people on this thread are experienced cruisers. I guess it is a good place to ask questions. :) Here is a silly one I couldn't find the answer to.

We will be getting robes in our room. Is it normal for people to wear these to and from the spa. Or is it common that people go to the spa dressed, change to suits there and enjoy the Rainforest. Change after and return to their room?

I did the REAS on my last cruise and we didn't get robes. You do get a reservation for a couples massage and Palo dinner and brunch. Ours was a special Mexican Riviera western cruise so maybe things were different though.

I am currently booked on this cruise, but I think we will be moving it to 2007, although you all are making it seem so good with Castaway Cay twice. I didn't know that, what port is being missed in its place?

The port we missed was Key west.... it was worth it!!! hOwever, I did see that the 07 turkey day cruise goes to Costa Maya and not grand Cayman. We were not impressed with Costa May, but the 2 x At Castaway makes it worthwhile.... But Costa Maya was a substutitue for Cozumel on our cruise. We missed GC due to weather. SO our ports were 2x CC and Costa Maya. But 4 sea days were great!!!

Maria, I have seen 2 different itineraries for this cruise!! Fortunately DCL site has it as what you have listed above. We are looking at booking it- hope to make my "presentation" to DH this weekend- got all my quotes lined up- of course I will remind him that we could be saving MORE if we had booked when we were there!! It looks as though you guys are the only "turkeys" on this cruise so far?????

Any AA members- oops wrong cruise- I mean AAA members out there- they have great shipboard credits ($150 for cat 1-9, $75 for rest of cats) and the price we were quoted was the same as Dreams unlimited and DCL

Maria- FYI - the price difference to go the week after Thanksgiving offset the guilt of taking my kids out of school for a week. SO we will be going the 25th- not as crazy about the itinerary, wish it was 2 days at CC! Hope to see you on a 2007 cruise!! Pam

I am sorry to hear that, but I fully do understand. There is a big price difference.I belief you all will like the Eastern Carribbean. We like the Eastern Carribbean better then what we saw of the Western, but then again we didn't go to Grand Cayman or Cozumel. We will see how it goes.We do love the idea of the two days at CC as it was great this past November..Hope to see you all in 2007.

Maggiekid-Welcome!We have cruised DCL four times now.Two were four nights, and two were 7 nights. We enjoyed all of the our trips, but the 7 nights are the best as one isn't as rushed. We have never cruised with anyone else besides DCL.

I'm already looking forward to it. The older you get, the faster time flies, so I know the cruise will be here quickly. :teeth:

On the last cruise, I posted a list of everyone going from here, along with all the information about them available from their posts...etc...first names, ages of children, and home city, state, or country. A copy of it came in handy when we picked a place to meet. :grouphug:

I'm willing to do it for this cruise also, unless one of you more seasoned cruisers wants to do it. There are nine posters so far and will probably be a lot more as it gets closer.

BTW, Maria, I have a sister living in Cocoa Beach. I'm hoping she and my brother-in-law will join us.

We (myself, DW and DS12) booked the Thanksgiving '06 cruise, while on the August repo last year, as a "placeholder" for one of the 2007 cruises. However...... we found out yesterday that we had cleared the waitlist for a Cat 3 and now have one of the mid-ship suites, so we decided to go on this cruise and just take our chances on the 2007 trips. If past menus are any indication, I think we'll be having turkey and lobster on Thanksgiving Day! Certainly wouldn't be getting that at home :rotfl2:

We have at Cat. 9 , mid-ship,on deck 2 this time. My daughter is treating me to the cruise this year because I treated everyone last year, 7 people in all, to the cruise and two nights in Disney World. She won't go any higher on the ship because she is so afraid of getting sea sick. The lower you are, the less movement. Sea bands worked well on the last cruise....but she doesn't want to chance it.

I will still pay for any other expenses, such as airfare. It's so difficult letting your daughter pay your way but she insists on it.

Have you all looked at the thread on the cruise leaving on the 11th of Nov.? There's over 1,000 posts. We have to get busy to catch up.

Our cruise should have a lot of children on it since they are off school that week. It's more and more difficult to get teachers give permission for children to take vacation time during school days. My grandson will be in first grade. He will only miss one day. I think he will survive it. :)

Hey!!! We are supposed to be adding people to our cruise list here, not checking them off. I'm sorry yogibigdog and two-foxes won't be with us.

Well..... I'll add a couple more here. Yesterday we decided to bring my parents on this cruise with us. They have only cruised once before, on a small ship in Alaska. So..... a DCL cruise will be different for them. When I talked to DCL yesterday to book their reservation, the DCL rep asked if they had cruised before. My answer was yes, but not on Disney. Her response was "So, they've never really cruised before?". I had to agree and told her that we would show them how cruising is really done!!

DS is already making plans to show them the entire ship (this will be his 4th Disney cruise, so he knows the ship pretty well). Somehow, I think he will have his grandfather cornered on the shuffleboard courts..... they spend hours playing shuffleboard when they go camping together.

Hey there!
I am going to be booking us this week for the 2006 Thanksgiving cruise! We are 5 adults and 1 child. Actually we are all kids at heart! We just love everything Disney. This will be our second Disney cruise, though this time minus my sister. We have my partner, my daughter who is 7, my mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. Can't wait. Looks like we'll be on Deck 2. :Pinkbounc

Have been trying not to think too much about it yet, because it's still 6 months away, but today I thought I'd glance at the boards and that was several hours ago - I'm still here! This will be our 3rd DCL cruise - we did one 4 day in 2000, which wasn't nearly long enough, and one 7 day in 2001. Made the mistake of trying CCL in 2003 and now can't wait to cruise Disney again!

As a result, it looks like we will be joining ya'all for the 2006 Thanksgiving Magic. We will be travelling w/ our DS, Mason, who will be 7 by the time of the cruise.

Hopefully we can stir up some chat on this thread. Next year's Turkey Day thread is up to page 14, largely b/c it was started by the Turkey Day gang. Growing from a core of 5 families in 2004, we linked 28 cabins for dinner in 2005 and essentially had the right side of the entry walkway in the dining rooms to ourselves. They actually treated us as a small convention. Come November 18th, we will be there in our flourescent green Turkey Day gang t-shirts. last year, we had over 100 people in the shirts at the port. Made us easy to spot for each other. Also, the thread spanned at least 3000 entries.

Seriously, we knew no one when we signed up for the 2004 cruise in August 2004. Through this site, we met what became the core group and ultimately expanded to last year's much larger group. We even managed to get a party of about 30 people into Palo's together for brunch. Hope to hear from others soon.

I'm in Glen Burnie, just south of Baltimore and 15 minutes from BWI. My daughter is in Severna Park.

I'm close enough from the airport to make it a short trip there, but not close enough to notice the noise from the planes flying to and from it. We like having an airport van pick us up at my home and take us there. It's nice to have it waiting for you when you return to go home. No picking on relatives to transport you. :)

We had a van waiting for us after our last cruise. There were 7 of us coming back. Our van was the ONLY vehicle waiting in front of the departure doors when we walked out. That was extremely strange for a busy BWI early evening. We soon found out some security problem had shut down those lanes and our van was the only vehicle who made it through before the shutdown. The driver had no idea about why he was alone out there. :confused3 He was directed to drive over the curbs to get out of the lane.

I was pleased our exhausted family had someone there. :cool1:

I'm wondering if it is advisable to book 2 excursions in one day (Grand Cayman)? We'd like to take the kids on the semi-sub in the AM and then put them in the clubs and head out in the afternoon for Ship Wreck & Reef snorkeling. Any advise? Has anyone taken these excursions? What about excursions for Nanna in GC and Cozumel?
Thanks- look forward to sailing with you. :boat:

Welcome to the thread Montclairbear!! We took our DS on the semi sub excursion 2 years ago when he was 5. It was neat for him to see the coral, fish and diver. After that we offered for him to go shopping w/ us or we offered to take him back to the ship and go to the kids club. He chose the club. He LOVES the club!! :cool1:

There is enough time to do the semi sub excursion and something else in GC--so long as the times of the excurisions don't conflict.

If Nanna can climb stairs, she may enjoy the semi sub also.

2 years ago we did the fury catameran in Cozumel. It was a fun excursion! :thumbsup2

Last year, due to the weather, the ship wasn't able to go to GC and then we went to Costa Maya instead of Cozumel due to the damage of the port after Wilma. So, we are trying again this year!!

We look forward to meeting you and your family!!

Welcome Montclairbear. Wow! You have a nice sized group going. We had 7 of us on the Disney Wonder last year and it was my treat for my children and grandchildren. Spent a lot of time later on the side of the road, after the cruise, with a "will work for food" sign. :)

I'll be on the computer as soon as I can, which I believe is 60 days before the cruise, and pick out our excursions. They'll all be new to us since we've never taken the western cruise. Definately want to go on one of the mini subs.

We all just have to hope and pray a new hurricane season doesn't wipe out our choices :scared1:

ICEMANPAD

montclair: two excursions in grand cayman is likely to be difficult given the overall amount of time that you are there combined w/the extra time it will take to tender the kids back to the ship. the faux-sub is fun w/the kids. we are doing the stingrays this year to make up for last year's inability to make port.

also, to all concerned, the passporter guide rates all the excursions and we have found their ratings to be pretty good. the turkey day gang took lots of excursions the past two years.

looks like we are holding down the fort this year, but as can be seen from the 2007 thread started by doogierunner, the gang will be back in force next year.

We're staying Concierge, so when we hit the 105 day mark, we could book everything ( guess that's the higher priority list :rolleyes1 ). What I found strange is the small number of excursions listed to book online. The port info lists probably 15 or more, but only 4 showed up as available to book.

On another note..... glad you had a good trip to WDW. We're off to WDW in two weeks and staying at VWL. I REALLY need a dose of Disney right about now!!

We were part of the "green" disboards group last year. Quite a few disers ordered the same shirts and we linked our dining reservations together--it was a lot of fun. We will be wearing "dis green" again this year!! We look forward to meeting this year's group.

So my favorite part of our trip is the planning and preparing. One of the things I have been doing is reading the boards and it has saddened me some.

The two biggest things have been how they have changed the lunch buffet and what seems to be a new and very disappointing castaway club party. Does anyone else have an opinion on that?

We are still sifting through things trying to figure out what we want to do at the Grand Caymans and Cozumel. We really like the Costa Maya stop last year. We liked the giant pool in the middle of the shopping area and the easy access to the beach. We have a little one so we won't be doing any excursions. We are eager to see the "new and improved" Cozumel. We enjoyed it so much the last time we were there.

So does anyone have their plans for the islands yet? I read some of the excursions people are doing, but curious what else everyone had planned.

Counting down the days.

Our favorite lunch buffet was the seafood buffet on thursday the last 2 years. My DH will be disappointed if there is no seafood buffet. We enjoyed the CC party last year--there were drinks and plenty of hor dorves. Hopefully DCL will go back to that type of party.

We are doing the stingray city and city tour w/o our DS. Our first time in GC (2004) we took him on a partial underwater boat trip and all he wanted to do was go back to the kids club. Last year, as you know, we didn't stop in GC--our DS was very happy!! In Cozumel we just plan to look around and maybe take our DS mini golfing--if we can get him to leave the kids club for a little while!!

So does anyone have their plans for the islands yet? I read some of the excursions people are doing, but curious what else everyone had planned.

Dszygram and Icemanpad I am with you. On my March cruise it felt like we were all family before we ever got to the port. This group is definately quiet.

We just went to Disney for a few hours tonight and my daughter got all excited when she ran by one of the cruise planning desks. Everyone at the Beach Club knew she was going to be going on a cruise.

So have people decided on what they are doing at Grand Cayman and Cozumel? We are trying to figure things out. We know we do not want to do an excursion because we don't want to be tied to someone else schedule with a 2 year old that may not want to be on that schedule. And we are not keen on putting her in a taxi. We remember an area that we walked to at Grand Cayman that had some sand then a lot of rocks before you reached the water. I went Snorkeling there a few years back, however, I have traded the snorkel gear in for sand toys and a stroller. We may let her play in the sand for awhile unless we come up with a better idea.

We figured we would go off the boat for a bit then do lunch and let her take in some pool time.

So anyone want to share some ideas for the islands? Maybe we can steal them. :rotfl:

Hi Michelle, I am adding you and your family to the list. It's getting so close now. :cool1:

I just finished making a stick-on sign for our cabin door so my 7 year old grandson can find it. Last year our group was in three different cabins and I had magnetic picture signs for each of us. You can imagine the problems of getting large magnets through airport security.

Hope we get together some plans to meet each other while on the cruise. I'm the list maker, we need a meeting maker. :)

Adding another post to tell our Island plans. We are just renting floating tubes for Castaway Cay. My grandson loves the ocean too much to do anything else. I love looking at the water and wading in up to my knees. :teeth:

On Grand Cayman, we are doing the island tour and butterfly farm. On Cozemel we are taking the Atlantis submarine excursion. Both excursions were chosen because of my grandson but we will enjoy them too. It will be our first time on both of the islands.

For CC we are renting bikes because my daughter loves to ride. We are bringing a small blow-up raft for DD. Last November she spent about two minutes in the water and lots of time playing in the sand.

On our March Cruise we all met up at the SailAway party.

I was the list keeper and when the time came we actually made a list which included room number (or deck numbers) and what we would be wearing for our arrival at port.

I made a barett from the green Mickey Heads. One family got the green heads at home depot and some ribbon. They punched a hole in the head and made necklaces. Made it easy to find them and they were lots of fun.

I have not even started my door signs yet. Well we actually have the one for my daughter to find the door, but I need to do the ones for each day.

Right now I am working on DD pillowcase.

Michelle and Gail-

You both have some great ideas!! In 2004 and 2005 we had Dismeets on deck 10-on the side facing the port-overlooking the Goofy pool just prior to the Sail-a-way party. The group from 2005 stood out b/c we ordered matching Dis Green t-shirts. It was a good way to match faces w/ names.

Hopefully, this years group will start adding more posts to this thread so we can get to know each other better!!!!

Lisa,

You guys certainly did standout. It was as if you guys were taking over the ship. I vividly remember all those green shirts.

I am so excited because another friend of ours just booked. It is two adults and two girls ages 3 and 5.

That means more doors signs for me. I am going out tomorrow to look for cute items to put into the package I am making my daughter and for my friends girls. Just little Disney activities for them to do at dinner and down time. We got a bunch of stuff last month at Target. I will go to Downtown Disney tomorrow and see what little stuff I can find in there cheap area.

Lisa and Gail it is obvious that we are all excited. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I figured I would post again and bump us up plus share some info.

Ok, so I went out today to look for more trinkets and treasures for the welcome aboard baskets we are making for the girls. I went to the Disney Store in the mall and they had all their costumes (princess for girls and buzz, capt hook. pete pan, etc for the boys) at 50% off. Thought I would share for those looking for costumes

Our baskets are coming along great. So far I have the regular autograph book, a gold autogrpah book which the kids can put pictures in, some cool things I got awhile back at Target, princess brush, pens, cruela deville journaling book, and a cinderellabration purse filled with coloring stuff. Oh, I forgot a shovel and some pool stuff. So I think we are set on those.

Time to focus on stuff for Pirate night next.

Anyone else starting to prepare.

I convinced my children (DD-9 & DS-8) to dress as Pirates for halloween. We are bringing the costumes for them to wear on Pirate night. They are getting very excited. Less than 5-weeks away! I thought I was quite prepared, but my son tried on clothes yesterday and he needs dress pants, belt, tie and dress shoes. I hope the dresses I purchased for my daughter still fit. I can't believe how much they have grown the past few months! I love reading the posts and getting all the great information on this board. Thanks to everyone!

Thank you for the ears link. :thumbsup2 I bought some peel and stick computer paper that makes it easy to print out pictures and put them on the door. They come off easily with no residue.

My son, and family came last year and my second grandson celebrated his 5th birthday on the cruise. I made some extra magnetic birthday cards for him to put in the room. There were a LOT of magnets in our suitcases. :teeth: Only one case was searched on the way home and some of the magnets were taken.

I bought adult Captain Jack Pirate shirts for my daughter and I from the Disney store. They were half price. The sizes were also half as big as they said they were. Mine looked like it was painted on me. pirate: I am a 62 year old grandmother who doesn't wear skin tight t-shirts. :teeth: We missed the pirate party last year but will make sure we go to it this time.

Someone come up with a place and time to meet and I'll be there. :)

PS. My daughter is 38 and single now. I've promised to baby sit for her if she finds someone to go dancing with her. She is a very good dancer and singer, plus she is nice looking (not just my opinion :) ) If anyone knows of someone who would like to go to one of the clubs with a dance partner, let me know. She would kill me if she knew I was asking.

Now that we have it that magical one month and counting day I thought I would pop us back upto the top.

Is every one in full planning mode now? I finished the front of DD pillow and have started on the back. Once that is done I have three more to do. I will post a picture once I finish. There are 11 characters on the front of the pillow. I have one on the back so far and about 9 more to go.

We finished buying all the things for the kids welcome aboard baskets. We have added the remaining dresses to the kids princess collection thanks to the big sale at the Disney Store.

I guess it is time to think about adult packing. The adults are trying to finalize all their plans. Dinner linkinings and where we will be and what we will be doing each day. Just the big activities...not every minute of every day.

Are there any others interested in meeting for the sailaway celebration? I know that IcemanPad and diszygram is. Anyone else. I will organize the time and place if we are interested.

Also, anyone want to chime in with their dinner time. We can see when we will all be passing each other.

We along with the other two families we are traveling with are the late seating.

This month will fly by!!!

Well there is pretty much just 3 weeks left until we board the Magic. Hopefully a few more Disers will be checking in. Almost time for those Docs to start arriving.

I went and checked out items to decorate our table with at Pirate Night. I am almost done with the first of four pillows for autographs. The rest will be much quicker. This one has oover 20 designs. The rest will be simple.

Door signs are half done and door decorations are ready to be laminated.

Now must start on packing. How is everyone else coming along.

I took my daughter to the Magic Kingdom to get a haircut. She kept telling everyone in the barbershop she was cutting her hair for Mickey. It made everyone laugh.

I know that Icemanpad, Diszygram, and one other (sorry I forgot your screen name) is interested in a DISmeet. Anyone else? :confused3

We know where everyone is coming from. Thought I would start with what everyone does in order to get to know each other a bit more before the trip.

I am a part-time teacher (Physics and Physical Science in a high school) and spend the rest of the time chasing around a 2 year old. My husband works in Television and Film.

Anyone else want to share??

I remember the day well when my husband and I booked our first DIsney Cruise. It was a very cold day in March 2005 and I thought that Nov 2006 was forever away!!!
I am already in my packing stages (but to be fair hubby and I are going to Disney World next week for a 3 day trip including a Disney Wedding  )
I have my door signs already made. I am very proud of them so if you are on our deck please stop by Rooms 6072/6074 to see our signs! I was so excited that I made them 6 months ago.

My daughter has our room number but all I know right now is that the cabin is on deck 2, located right next to where the two ends of the ship were joined together (mid ship) and our port hole will be facing the beach when we dock at Castaway Cay. Last time it looked out at the ocean side.

I recently retired from the public library system. Many people think we are all librarians. I am not a librarian, but was the nice lady who tells you your books are late. Of course it was my fault because no one called to say they were due back yesterday. :teeth:

My daughter works for the government and I help her out a lot now with my 7 year old grandson. She has a free sitter if she has to work late or wants to go out dancing with friends.

I have two door signs made up now and I'm pleased about how they turned out.

This time I am promising myself I won't wipe out my door key card again by sticking it in my pocketbook with the cute Disney magnets I just bought.

The two green Disney shirts with the small Mickey logo on them came today.
My daughter and I will have the matching shirts on when we meet, and will have a slender, blond haired, 7 year old boy with us.

I can tell you what I am doing for our Pirate table. We have four kids sitting at a table (2-2yo, 3yo, and 5yo) so I am making little "goodie bags" for them. Better known as keep you occupied for the two hour dinner. I am collecting pirate stickers, eyepatches, and little pirate goodies that I get after halloween.

Mollygirl, you are going to love the Disney Wedding. They are very elaborate and if it is at the wedding pavillion the view is incredible. We went to one a few years ago. Though the couple said they would never do the Cinderella coach again. Apparently being in a glass bubble in the Florida sun is a bit hot. However, looks like you are going to have very nice pleasant weather next week.

So far, most of Florida has been blessed with good weather this hurricane season. My sister bought a new SUV this past spring so she and her husband would have lots of room to pack evacuation items in it if a hurricane headed her way. Hasn't happened yet but she still loves the SUV. :)

It is nice to finally see some life in this thread, although next year's thread is up to page 24 - we are booked on that one too. We always take the late meals b/c our 7 year old son would much prefer the kid's club to a two hour boring meal w/us..LOL. It is also much easier to get ready for the late rotation after shore days or the Palo brunch.

On the first day, we will be in the terminal and then on deck 10 midships for the sailaway party in the flourescent green shirts which signify Disboards. At 6'8", I am tough to miss and Lisa approaches 6' as well. For various reasons, the rest of the last 2 years' Turkey Day Gang is taking this year off, although several are booked for next year, but we hope to meet plenty of new friends and continue the tradition.

Lets do meet at the sailaway partysince most of us will be going. How about Deck 10 port side.

We plan on leaving our house at 9am which would get us to the port by 10am, but more realistic will be 10:30am. We will be anxiously awaiting the opening of the doors and the opportunity to get on the Magic.

As of now we are in 7520. Deck 5 is my favorite, but that is the verandah they gave us and we are happy to have it. We have never been on Deck 7 so it will be new for us.

We have lots of door signs. At least one per day plus the welcome one for our daughter, the one for my daughter to find the door, and whatever else I end up with. I have mickey heads that I am hanging streamers from like balloons.

So much to do so little time....less than 20 days left.

See y'all really soon

It is nice to see some some action on here. :goodvibes Anyone want to come up with a time to meet? Also, where on the portside is a good spot? I know we will be having a life jacket drill sometime soon after we sail away.

Deck 10, portside sounds good. Just have to look it up again and see which side is the port side. :teeth: Wild guess...left side since I read "port" has the same number of letters as "left". Won't that side be facing the ocean as we sail away?

DH and I are going this Friday to a Disney Wedding! In fact, we had our own Disney Wedding in 1999 also! July 20th to be exact. We had our ceremony at the Pavilion and a Reception at the Grand Floridian. Best day of my life! This wedding we are going to on Friday will be very similar to ours so it will be nice to be a guest at a Disney Wedding.

As far as time I say if we just pick an area and be there for the sailaway party we should all run into each other. This is what we did for our cruise last March.

And i appologize I did not mean portside. What I mean is Deck 10 above the stage and on the side of the ship that is up against the terminal. That way we can see everyone wave to us from the terminal with the giant Mickey hands. I think the younger kids will love that....at least they did on our last sailing.

Great, Michelle. :thumbsup2 I did wonder if you had picked the other side because it would have less people on it. :) My grandson will be waving right back at the Mickey hands.

What's a good time to try to find each other? Or should we just say hello to all green shirted people. Unsuspecting people, who have no idea they are wearing a Disboard green colored shirt, might like having strangers greet them. :teeth: Hey, I worked with the public for many years. I think it will be easy to spot the Icemanpad crew since those shirts certainly stood out last year.

I say lets not try to pick a time, but just say at the sailaway party since we cannot predict if the ship will be leaving late or early. We know the ship won't be leaving without the party....that is for sure.

I will be wearing my bright green tinkerbell shirt.

We may not need to worry too much. I donot think we have that large of a group. It seems like just the four of us families are active on the board. Surprising since I know there were so many last November and even for my March cruise.

Our shirts are not a bright lime color but they are the light green polo shirts with the small Mickey icon embroidered near the collar. I'll keep an eye out for lime green ones. We met some wonderful people from here on our last cruise. One of them was Ibouncetoo, who is a very active poster here. She joined our group for brunch at Palo.

Another family won their cruise from the "Make a Wish Foundation" because of their beautiful, severely handicapped daughter, who loves Mickey Mouse. I still hear from her.

I think I'm going to add a Disboard decal to the shirts. Ink Jet now has dark T-shirt transfers that you can iron on colored shirts. Last year I only found ones you could use on white shirts. I'll add my board name on mine, Diszygram. It's short for ditsy grandmother, and I am. :teeth:

I can't believe it is this close, and I definitely agree that time moves faster the older you get!! We booked this while we were on the August repo cruise last year (actually booked it the day before we went through the Panama Canal). We have not even started getting things ready to pack because DW has to go to Los Angeles this Sunday on a 4 day business trip, and that is kind of taking priority at the moment. This is our first cruise. My SIL booked through AAA.

Will our documents be sent from Disney to AAA and then forwarded to us or does Disney send them directly to us? Our family lives in NJ and PA. Our AAA Agent has not been too helpful. She couldn't tell me how much our onboard credit is. My SIL doesn't remember what the deal was when she booked this trip in Feb 2005. I guess I will have to wait until we board. If our documents go to the AAA Agent, I want to call her on Monday and check to see if she received the documents.

My family (DH, DD-9, DS-8 and myself) are flying to Orlando on Thursday (Nov 16th) from Newark. My kids are really getting excited. I keep giving my kids the countdown. I am trying to read as many tips as possible so we are prepared. This site has been so helpful and everyone has been really nice. We can't wait for the trip!

njdisneymomof2-
1) Your docs should be sent directly to you. They will be coming UPS. If you are not home they should be left at your door. So look for a white envelope at your doorstep.

2) I believe you can call Disney Cruise Line directly and they can tell you the amount on your shipboard account and any other notes connected with your reservation. I do not have the 800 number, but there is one for DCL. I only know the local number.

The Ducks-
Will you be spending two days at WDW or what will you be doing with the extra time.

Everyone else, don't forget we are trying to plan a DIS Meet at the sailaway party. Let us know if you plan on attending and what to look for. Remember you can go to homedepot and get the bright green paint chips and turn them into a necklace, or barette or whatever you can think of. I know iceman pad and I will be in lime green shirts.

Also, if you want me to update you on the list once you
get your docs let us know your stateroom number or deck number and dinner time.

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited and so nervous  at the same time. I travel alone all the time but never on a cruise. I went on a Princess Cruise with my Mom and Sister last year and except for meals, excursions and at night we each did our own thing during the day. So I figure...I can do this! I can go on a cruise alone and have fun! :joker: Ok, I admit it...I'm scared that it will be awkward.

When I learned a week ago that I was getting some extra time off for Thanksgiving and that my Mom wasn't hosting Thanksgiving this year, she's not feeling well, I immediatly looked into booking this Disney Cruise. I love Disney  , I love cruises  , and I love kids  ...so I thought this would be a great cruise for me.

I would love to connect with anyone that is going solo or any couples, friends or families that love to have fun and would love a new friend :wave2: .

I hope to hear from you soon!

Due to some recently learned information, we opted to change cabins based upon a special deal for Florida residents. However, the only cabins affected are cat 11's. Since we had a 10, albeit a secret porthole, we opted to take the cat 11 and save the money, especially since we rarely spend any time in the cabin other than to sleep anyway.

Thus for the list, we will now be in cabin 7127. One nice feature about this location is that it is literally adjacent to the virtually unknown and unused deck on deck 7 aft, so it will almost be like having a private veranda w/out the cost. FYI, we had a veranda last year and are booked for one next year so we do have the means to compare, and while it is agreed that it is not quite the same thing, for literally nearly half the price, we're quite satisfied w/the arrangement.

Noting a tip we saw above, another great spacesaver is to hang a plastic shoe tree over the bathroom door facing out, but instead of shoes, use the slots for brushes, shampoo, suntal oil etc. Since the plastic ones come w/about 20 pockets and are easily packed, they are very handy. Ours comes w/metal hooks that go over the top of he door, but still allow for the door to be shut.

Chuck, I bought one of those cloth shoe trees with four metal hanging hooks on it. I'm glad you said to use the bathroom door because I was going to try using the cabin door. I also have a hanging cloth one with shelves for the closet. It drops down and has nice sized shelves for anything that will fit on them. It's like extra drawer space.

In case anyone is interested, the cabin we gave up today is one of 6 secret porthole cat 10 cabins. It is basically a cat 8 cabin for a cat 10 price. There is an obstruction outside of the porthole, but it's not a major obstruction. If you go to ***************** you can see pictures. We want to share the info in case one of our fellow turkey disers are interested in the cabin. It is cabin # 5020.

Andrea, welcome. We have actually added another two people to the group we are traveling with. That brings our total upto 15 in our linked group. Maybe there is someone who is not so large that you can link up with for dinner. You would not want to join us anyway...we have little ones that will not be enjoying the 2 hour meal. Besides we will be bringing some cups and string to communicate with the people at the other end of our table.

Icemanpad, we are glad that you are joining us on our deck. The Aft is alsoour preferred spot on the ship, but the way we look at it is we are on the ship so we will take whatever. This is our first time on Deck 7. We are usually 5 or 6 aft.

Ditto on the shoe organizer. We have the one with the metal hooks and hung it on the bathroom door. What a lifesaver and junk picker-uper it was.

So far we are the only ones with an early dinner. My grandson is used to a 5pm dinner since he goes to bed early at home.

I'm afraid a late dinner would have him falling asleep at the table. The shows after dinner keep him awake because they are such great shows. The guest desk has free headsets that can be borrowed for heaing impaired people and he is hard of hearing. You wouldn't know it because he reads lips very well and hears enough to tell what you are saying. It's the only problem he ended up with after being born three complete months early and weighing 2 pounds and 10 ounces.

If any of you meet him, just make sure he is looking at you when you speak to him. :) He speaks so well himself that people don't realize he is deaf. I'm proud of how well he has adapted to his handicap and he attends a regular school. He gets very upset and angry when other children, who don't know any better, tease him about his hearing.

Fortunately he is a nice looking boy and attracts a lot of attention from the girls. :grouphug:

We have early dinner. I guess with a family of 9 we will have our own table. From what I have read, our dining rotation should either start with Animator's Palate (young kids) or Parrot Cay (older kids). The kids in our party are 11, 9, 8 and 2 (almost 3). I don't know if they are considered younger or older for the dining standards. I guess we will have to wait to be surprised. We are getting very excited!

An updated list would be nice if the time presents itself. As to dinner seatings, our DS 7 never eats w/us b/c he finds it boring and a waste of time. He much prefers to have his meals w/the kids club where the meals are shorter, the food simpler and more to his liking, and lots of his contemporaries.

Thus, we always take the late seating which is much easier to prepare for given shore excursions and shopping. We expect to have the APL again for the 3rd year in the row which is our preferred rotation b/c it puts us in the niceat restaurant for formal and semi-formal nights. We requested the rotation and our server from last year from Disney, the latter if she has returned from a sabattical.

Hi Guys,

I wasn't able to book bruch or tea because I booked the cruise so late :sad1:. Will I have a chance to book a time when I get on the cruise or should I not get my hopes up?

Is it possible to book Disney transportation from the airport if I wasn't able to book my airfare through Disney? How would I do that?

One more thing...would it just be better for me to rent a car and return it in Port Canaveral? Is it crazy crowded at the Budget there or is it ok and I won't have any problems getting a shuttle to the boat?

Thanks so much for your help!

Andrea (34, single and crazy excited!!!)

Andrea,
There is always a chance for booking Palo. Just go to Rockin' Bar D(check your navigator to make sure it is there) at the specified time and see if you can book. There is usually space if you get there early enough.

Ground transportation can be booked without booking a flight. Don't know about renting a car since we are local. I know you can buy a seat on the DCL bus because we always have that option. It is ground transportation. Anyone know the 800 number. I only know the number to the office in Celebration. Sorry on that one.

Hi Andrea, Hopefully you will be able to book Palos on board. Do it as soon as you can.

I just finished packing one large suitcase and sat on it to get it closed. It weighs 42 pounds and the limit is 50. The other large suitcase is quickly filling up too. Then there's my carry-on. :faint: Can't believe I'll be wearing and using so many things in one week. If we get stranded on a desert island, I'll be prepared. :)

I went out today and bought a nice formal dress. It will be great for Christmas too. The one I originally had looked more semi-formal than formal, so it will be for the semi-formal night.

So last night we put together all of DD clothes adn they are suitcase ready.

I have one more pillow to embroider then the pillow assembly factory will begin. They are a lot of work, but i love doing them. I'll post the "before siggies" picture when I am done.

I am checking more signs off my list. I am doing one for each day and some days there will be two. I am posting our main door one and pirate night one. I have lots more, but these two have been saved as Jpeg. The rest are still photoshop files.

I hope more of you have gotten your docs. It is odd since in the past we were always the last to recieve them.

Well time to make some dinner.

Well I finished embroidering all my pillows :dance3: I just need to put zippers in and finish them up. Then all my stress will be gone. I am waiting until Monday to print out all my signs. I want to make sure my room # does not change. I know that two of the people in our group have had room # changes. As of now we have 11 for our stateroom and I made 4 for other people.

Tomorrow is our last day to relas. We have my MIL coming for 5 days with her young granddaughter and we will be running the WDW shuttle. Plus friends are in visiting the mouse and we need to meet up with them. We will get to be building our excitement with our multiple Disney trips so that will be good.

Glad all the docs are arriving. We are almost there.

It must be real!!!!! Got our docs yesterday afternoon.

Probably should start getting ready to pack!! We haven't done a thing yet, other than put the docs with our passports and lanyards (at least I know where those are!). Oh well...... if you see me wearing the same clothes every day, you'll know why.

We received our docs over a week ago and have long since registered online. No chance my wife would wait on that one. As to packing, knowing us, next Thursday night is when we will start...and finish since we are heading to the port after work on friday. As always, we will be one of the first cars in line for the parking lot before 10am on the 18th.

As to the question from Andrea about transportation, we strongly suggest arranging thru Disney or renting a car and driving yourself. The reason is that if you travel thru Disney and there is a problem, they may hold the boat. If you travel thru someone else.... Also, two years ago, someone on the Disboards group had their Disney arranged flight arrive late. The boat was held for about 1/2 hour for them to make the ship.

As to door signs, we will have one dedicated to the Turkey day gang (note our signaure below). In years' past, there was also a game of door magnet tag to see who would be left w/the, what else would you expect, turkey. Each cabin had to sign off and pass it on to someone else's door.

As to the Palo question, Andrea, if you arrive early, or when you arrive, go straight to Rockin Bar D or wherever may be designated as soon as you board. Not all the Palo reservations are released in advance online. Further, as a party of 1 or 2 you have a pretty good chance and there are always cancellations. Finally, you can potentially be added to someone else's reservation. The latter was done extensively last year amongst our 28 limked cabins.

We are arriving on Friday and my sister should be waiting for us by the luggage return. Years ago she would be waiting at the door as we got off the plane. Unfortunately, for security reasons, no one can do that anymore.

Anyone else remember how nice it was to get off the plane and see the smiling face of a friend or family member waiting right there? :)

I rechecked my packing list and realized I forgot bras.

Thanks so much for the info Chuck! I can not believe how nice everyone on this board is. No wonder you guys make this cruise a yearly event. I don't think I've ever been this excited to go on vacation. I had second thoughts about booking a cruise as a solo traveler...especially a family cruise like this one. I am so glad I did! It's been a really difficult year so I really needed this.

I booked myself on the Disney shuttle yesterday. It turns out that it's a great deal and I won't have to see my luggage again from California to the ship. I found out that my documents will go to Travelocity first, who I booked the cruise with, and then will be sent to me. Makes me nervous but I'm sure it will work out.

I was reading about the pillowcases and getting them signed. Is that free to do or is there a charge? I think that would be a great gift for some of my family and friends. Is there a limit to how many pillowcases you can turn in?

Last but not least - when I lived on Cayman I went to Stingray City many...many times. I highly reccommend that to anyone. When I'm in Cayman on this trip I hope to meet up with some friends. One of my friends is a Principal of a school on Cayman and wants me to meet some of his kids and tour his school. It got re-built after the hurricane. So I won't be able to go to Stingray City on this trip. Is the stingray feeding and snorkle at Castaway Cay worth it for just an hour? Plus I wouldn't want to get in the way of kids trying to enjoy it for the first time.

Thank you!

Andrea

Chuck & Lisa:

Thanks for stopping by to say hi to us NANA HEADS. I will truly miss you guys this year. We were watching video of last year where Charlie and Chuck were standing next to each other (Charlie being on a chair) and Hunter said goes he was really tall wasn't he.

I bet you guys are getting really excited. I haven't even started packing yet, just firmed up the rental car thing this morning and now im trying to decide what to wear. To catch you up on what will be happening on our cruise, we have people with dressed up teddy bears (im a Hairy god mother to one), the women are all wearing tiara's - whenever possible, most everyone one is going on the Sunny Liston tours in St Marteen and St Thomas and still with all of that going on, it won't be like last year. I hope you guys have a great time and I will make sure to start watching the cruise report threads to see how you guys are doing.

Have a great time all and leave some of the ship intact for us on the 25th.

Hugs and Kisses

Andrea, my son and daughter-in-law did the stingray feeding on Castaway Cay last year with my other two grandchildren. I thought it was a little expensive but they loved it. The stingrays have lost their stingers so they are very gentle and tame.

I would be very nervous being around wild stingrays with stingers. This year is the first time I've heard of them killing people.

We used the Disney Shuttle last year to get to and from the Coronado Springs Resort in Disney World. It was great. It's well organized.

You are going to have a long flight from San Francisco. My husband and I visited your beautiful city twice and loved it. He passed away over 5 years ago but I still feel him with me.

Hi Gail,

I think I'll take my chance at just snorkeling at Castaway Cay. Maybe I'll see some Stringrays without having to pay to see them! I am crazy for snorkeling. I've lived in some great places (Cayman, Micronesia, The Big Island and Maui) so I've fallen in love with snorkeling. I'm in the hotel business so I've been able to move a lot and see a lot of great places.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I know what you mean about him being with you. My dad passed away 12 years ago and I feel the same. San Francisco is an amazing city. I really love it here. Unfortunatley the cost of living is outrageous. I have been thinking a lot lately about moving again. We'll see! Looks like I'll be hanging out in Orlando at the airport for 4 hours. My plane arrives at 6:02 am. I'm stoping in Vegas and connecting to Orlando. Maybe I will win some cruise money in the Vegas airport on slots!

Ok, talk to you later!

Icemanpad did you win Turkey Tag? You are seiorus about being there early. We are planning to leave our house by 9:00am which puts us there some time around 10am. Of course all bets are off since we are on little kid time. We hope to be prepared, but we have some many visitors right now my head is spinning. i'll be running to the other end of Deck 7 to see your door signs. I loved seeing all the signs last November. When we went last March there were not as many door signs but still fun to see all the decorations.

Glad that everyone who has been checking in seems to have recieved their docs.

To answer the pillowcase question. Just put your pillow case in a ziploc (I include my own markers) and take it to Guest Services on the first day. Then you will get it back on the last day. No charge and they typically say one per person in the stateroom. I am finishing mine now and will post pictures when they are done.

Safe travels all!!!

Vegas is another favorite place of mine. You know, I actually saw someone win a few hundred dollars on one of those airport machines. :teeth: It's fun watching the people rush over and play them between their flights. It's a good way to get rid of any money you may have left. Hope you get some sleep during the trip.

My only snorkeling is the noises I might make while I'm sleeping.

Many of my and my daughter's stories about how we know my husband, her father, is still around have been collected by an award winning author. She is putting together her first non-fiction book about after death experiences.

It's a controversial subject that only someone who has experienced them will believe.

Hey Diszy, I know what you're talking about and I understand!

We are now just the 3 of us, me, my DP and our 7 yr old daughter, Jordyn. Wendy's (my dp) mom fell and broke her leg back in August and has had nothing but problems with it since. She's had surgery on it, pflebitis (I think that's how it's spelled), and 2 weeks ago she had a pulmonary embolism! She is doing fine now, thank the Lord, but we are just shocked at the trouble she's had. She decided she'd better not risk going on the cruise, so her husband decided to stay home too, so then their son, Wendy's brother, said he'd go to their house for Thanksgiving instead of going on the cruise.

So, it's just the 3 of us now. Really just the two of us, since Jordyn will be spending 99% of her time in the Kid's club. Maybe we'll get some sleep..... We're in cabin 2578, so walk softly!

Does anyone know what movies are going to be showing during our cruise???

Just remember the old advice...... pack everything that you think you will need, then put half of it back. We've been on 6 cruises so far, and have never used everything we took with us!! We're getting better, but still have some unused items when we get home.

DiszyGram
11-09-2006, 08:36 AM
I know I'll have unused items left over. The hard part is knowing and taking back out the ones you won't be using. They ALL look important to me right now. :teeth:

One important detail I just took care of is confirming my van to the airport reservation and finding out what time we are being picked up. Not getting on our plane on time would really mess things up. Most planes are filled up and overbooked for the Thanksgiving week.

The van is picking us up nice and early on Friday morning.

Looking forward to meeting a lot of you. My board name will be on my green shirt along with the Dis Board address. All three of us will have our green shirts on as we board the ship. That means we'll have them on in the nice picture the cruise photographers take of your group as you board. :grouphug:

We are buying the photo package this year. It's cheaper than buying all the individual pictures since they are usually nice pictures and expensive. You can end up spending way too much for them. My daughter has one of those great cameras that also takes video shots. I still have the old fashioned take pictures and have them developed camera.

Ok, so I'm feeling some pressure to think up some questions to ask you guys so we can have more posts on our thread. Did you see all the messages on the other threads?

Ok, here is one for you. I don't have anything really...really formal. I've been looking for something but can't find anything I like. I'm as big as a whale right now. Which is fitting because I'm going on a cruise. On my Princess Cruise I was fine in nice black dress pants and a beautiful sparkly top. Would that be ok or not enough?

Thanks,

Andrea

Ok, folks we are in the single digits now....How exciting.

Andrea,
I think what you are describing sounds fine. It does not need to be a formal gown for formal night. I very classy pants suit would do...at least that is my opinion.

My dess is a black cocktail length dress. If I can find a picture from our last cruise I will post it.

Hi Everyone,

Everything is coming together and it's happening for real!! :cool1: I got my stateroom number today. :thumbsup2 Yahoo! I have a place to rest my head. I didn't get an upgrade to the Royal Suite like I had hoped, anything is possible :wizard: , but none the less I have a stateroom!

I was emailing my Uncle today and he told me not to tell anyone what cabin I'm in and to be very careful with people I meet online. I told him that usually your name is right next to or on your cabin door so that if someone wanted to find you they could find you! I failed to mention that I was going on a Disney Cruise and not a Singles Cruise! Pretty funny. I guess someone could always smother me with a pillow signed by all of the disney characters or hit me over the head with a Mickey Mouse ice sculpture (don't get any ideas and let's not go there).

I have an inside stateroom because when you go single you pay for nearly two people. So I am just happy to be on the ship. Is deck 6 any good? Please call me in my cabin so I am not lonely :wave2:!
