View Full Version : Airline Changed My Reservation

Americam Airlines changed my flight (not to Orlando). We were orginally scheduled to fly out at 8:23, now it's 9:39. This delays us 2 hours at our destination.

Another flight leaves at 8:15, and gets us in 15 minutes earlier than originally scheduled.

Can I have the airlines change me to this slight, instead of the one they put me on?

That happened to us once going to Las Vegas. They swithed the time of our direct flight and transferred us to a flight with a connection. They didn't even contact us when they made the change. If I hadn't checked our reservation we would have had a lay over when we didn't need one. The flight with a connection left 10 min after our origional departure and the new direct was a couple of hours earlier. That may have been why the changed us to the connecting. When I called them, there was very little problem getting back onto the direct flight.

My experience is that airlines are constantly changing flights....sometimes up until the day of departure.
Once they changed our return flight after we already left home and they "left a message" on our home phone! Duh!! so we never got the message and we were 3 hours late! Ended up getting 3 free flights because of it! :goodvibes

Continental always calls to let us know...plus it is updated on the web site.
As a matter of fact they just called last week for our June 12th trip.

But, since they are the ones making the changes, you can call back and see if they can fit you into another flight and they won't charge the fee that is usually assessed when making changes.

That is what I did. They left the message there was a change. I checked and the flight down was only 15 minutes different. But the return flight was 2 hours earlier! :earseek: I called and asked for other flights. Ended up getting a later flight. :goodvibes So now we can still enjoy the morning at WDW before having to head out. May decide on a character breakfast as a last Hurrah! :Pinkbounc

The reservationist did change it for me.

Sun Country moved our flights earlier 1hr 45 minutes for both directions. We were perfectly fine with the earlier departure to MCO, but didn't want to be to the airport that early for our return home. I noticed the change but didn't do anything since our trip was 4 months away at the time. About a month later, they called to inform me of the change. I mentioned that this put a kink in our last day plans and asked for a change to the next day since they only have 1 flight a day at that time of year. They connected me to customer service who gladly moved us back a day. We got an extra day at DW for no change fees... gotta love it. The funny thing is that we had discussed making a change to add another day not more than 2 days before they called us.... their ears must have been ringing!

Try Southwest Airlines. They will not change their flights once they are published. Even if the flight is empty, the plane will go, because while its empty at one station, it is still needed somewhere else for the next flight.

Some of these other airlines cancel flights with low bookings and try to consolidate the passengers onto 1 flight instead of 2 flights that are not full. It's a good move for them, but bad for passengers, and after all we are the reason for their existence.

It's pretty-much a wash: Southwest won't publish until a limited number of months prior to the flight, while other airlines will change flight schedules until a limited number months prior to the flight.

The Contracts of Carriage vary with respect to what constitutes a significant enough schedule change to warrant getting a refund -- most of the contracts define this between changes of 2 hours, 4 hours or 6 hours. However, keep in mind that the passenger's most significant remedy is typically a refund, which is small consolation if it happens just a few months before a flight, when all alternatives are costly.
