My friend and I are renting a table at a community flea market. It is a bake/book and flea market sale. Suppose to get quite a crowd. We are selling new and used things. I was thinking of trying to appeal to the family crowds. We were thinking of selling tattoos, face painting and balloons. What do you think? We were also maybe thinking of selling glow sticks but can't find them for under a dollar and didn't think people would pay more since it is a day time sale and the glow sticks wouldn't be standing out in the daytime. Does anybody have any other ideas that would be a big hit at one of these sales???? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. :flower:

You'd get us at the table...'course we live in the great white north.
I don't go to many flea markets, but, it's great when someone has something for the kids - they usually find it SOOOO... boring! :hyper2:
I LOVE Smilies :flower3:

Kiddie sunglasses might sell well. We buy about 12 pair or more a year for our 9 year old. He either can't keep up with them or they get really scratched....they are so cheap we just buy more.

don't know how much time you have before the flea market but you can check out orientialtrading.com. they have a lot of things that you buy in bulk for cheap. I once bought the glow stick necklaces from them. Kids really like bounce balls. Another thing that will sell is candy. If you belong to bjs or costco you can buy bulk candy (right now bjs has summer candy items) to sell.

I did a craft fair before. I made predecorated scrapbook albums. I had Disney ones, baby ones, teen ones, school days ones, etc. I sold ONE album. I lost money on the deal because I had to pay for my table, which cost more than what I made on the book. Anyway, the lady behind me had goody bags filled with halloween candy (it was around halloween). She had like a ziplock bag filled with a handful of the miniatures. Then she tied them up with a ribbon. I think she was selling these for $1 and they flew off the table!!!!! She was also selling these pipe cleaner crown things. Basically she put a pipe cleaner in the shape of a circle to fit on a little girls head, then she tied curling ribbon and curled in to hang down the back of the crown. Talk about cheap!!! But they were flying off her table. Every single little girl I saw walking around had one of these on. Here I was with these scrapbooks that I spent a lot of time making and I couldn't sell them. (They were priced reasonably too!). She had these little trinkets and they were selling like hotcakes. So, to make a long story short, I think your stuff will sell fine!

Tattoos and face painting is always a hit with my kids. At our school spring fair they do manicures for kids. Some teenage girls let the kid pick a color and then they buff and paint the nails and give the kid the bottle to keep. They have the girls put their feet up and they treat them like royalty through the whole thing. There is always a huge line for that.

I love the manicure idea. CheapMom: Do you remember how much they were charging to have this service done?
This is so different from anything that I have seen before. I can't wait to tell my girlfriend.
Thank you.

It is really hard to say because they use tickets instead of $. I think around $2.00. We have a beauty supply company that donates bottles of nail polish to the PTA so the school makes out pretty well.

This is a great idea!! I have a dd8 and she always asks to buy these, instead of the pipe cleaner tho you buy that 'tinsel' the one with stars, or hearts, or Shamrocks, or bells, etc... gold or silver... get that at the party store for the "crown" then use the curling ribbon for the streamers in the back!! Real cute!! Real easy to make too!!

I really appreciate all of you helping me. I am so inspired. I think that I will try the crown headpieces as well. I have to run this one by my girlfriend. I made these for my daughters party before. What do you think if I sell these for $3.00 each? Does anyone have any ideas what these would sell for? They have a big sale every year in September here and every little girl around, including my two, have these on their heads. I didn't even think of it. We are going to Hershey this year and are going to go to Disney next March so all of the money that I make I hope to put towards my Disney trip. Thank you so much. :goodvibes :cheer2:

At our craft fair I brought the Mom's "Diamond" Pin. It is a pin back with a piece of silver ribbon and a dime glued on it. There was a little story about Mom being worth a diamond but all I could afford was a Dime-on-a-pin. Sold them for $1.50....I can not think it cost more than 50 cents to make!!!! You could also do Grandma Diamond pins!!!

Have you tried oriental trading company for the glow sticks. They often have 20% and free shipping codes if you order their catalog. I know that if you get your order together and then call them they will give you free shipping if you ask. I saw glow sticks as low as $3.95 a doz and swizzle glow stick necklaces for $11.95 a doz.

Our flea market is this Saturday. We're hoping to make a nice chunk of change. We are going to do the nail polish suggestion, face painting, tattoos, and crowns. We also have various toys and some used items such as clothes and books. This will be our second one. The first one we made a combined $150.00. We're hoping to make double this money. It is suppose to be a nice day out and I'm sure that there will be a much bigger crowd than out first one. Canwegosoon: do you have any idea as to what the poem said? I am interested for our next sale. We didn't have time to do these for this sale but I am interested for the next one. Also, thank you for the suggestion for the candy but we are not allowed to sell candy outright because it is a bake, book and flea market sale so they want to have the only food there. One thing that I am doing though is: We bought plastic purses, Nemo, Barbie and Minnie and Mickey. We are going to put a few pieces of candy in it and a ribbon and hoping to get $2.00 each. Does anybody think this is a good price? Oh, and by the way, we are also doing grab bags. I have some for boys and some for girls. We are going to try to sell these for $1.00 each. Any other suggestions.

We buy the crown things with streamers at all the local craft shows. DD loves them, the most I ever paid was $1.50.....that's about what they are worth. Last year, they were $1.00 and the girl's got to choose the colors as the lady made them while you waited.

Ceecee - it might be where you live. Around here they usually sell for 3-4 dollars. Ours have a lot of lace and are really pretty. I hope that we sell a lot. We'll find out tomorrow. If our prices are too high we'll lower them. I have asked a few people what they would expect to pay for stuff and we've been lower than everyone. We just want to make a few dollars and hopefully the kids will have a good time.

Crazymomof4: We bought the purses at the dollar store. We bought six just to try and only one sold. It was a very warm day around here and it wasn't that busy. We have another huge affair in town in September we are hoping to sell the rest of our stuff. One thing that sold extremely well was the rockets that we bought at the dollar store and sold for $2.00 each. They are plastic and the tops have a foam rocket on them. We had lots of interest in these. We only bought ten and sold out pretty quickly on these. If we do the sale in September, which I think that we will, I will buy 50 of these. You just never know what will sell. The sale in September is a real family affair so that I think there will be a big interest in these with all of the children present.

I am not sure were you live, but is the manicures legal? You are doing this for a profit correct, so the money you make is not for charity. don't you need a license to do nails? even though it is cheap and for kids, i think you could still have a problem.

I work in a craft store and have many regular customers that comment on their success/ failures at shows. Recently a woman had a booth with jewelry she had made, but what she made most of her money on was a table she had set up with beads and elastic and kids made their own bracelets and necklaces. Be sure to buy beads with holes the beading elastic will go through!

We made quite a bit of money having the children make sand art. We bought a few bottles all shapes and sizes (Plastic) from Oriental Trading and bought the colored sand also from OT and the kids made sand art by layering the colors and using pencils to make shapes etc...they loved these!! Also can you sell food? We made a lot by selling freeze pops. They are so cheap but the kids love them!!!

Robsmom: Yes, you do need a liscense to do a manicure. We are not doing a manicure. We are not cutting cuticles, nails or using any instruments at all. We are simply painting little girls nails. And, I don't think it would matter whether we were doing it for charity or not. You would need a liscense if you were doing a manicure regardless if it were for charity or not. These suggestions are for us to help eachother make money. No one mentioned charity. I am sure that we all donate in other ways.
DL and K's mom: Thank you for the instructions. Maybe we'll try this at our next sale.
Yooperfan: Thank you for your suggestion. Is it expensive to buy the beads? Also, how do you keep the kids from putting fifty thousand beads on a necklace? Is it because the string is only so long? Do you have any idea as to how much to charge for these?
D, L and K's mom: Thank you for the sand art suggestion. We are tossing this idea around also.
Everyone let's keep ideas coming. Thanks to everyone for being so helpful.

MRSBOZ...I was just wondering what all did you make/buy and sell at the last two sales? And what sold the best? Every July 4th our community has a HUGE yard sale during the day and then at night they have a lawn party and fireworks. I was trying to figure out what to sell also besides the things that I need to get rid of out of the house. I bought some bracelets from ebay. Those rubber band type bracelets with sayings on them. Then I've thought about other things too...like the glow sticks...but I was don't know what do with them since it's going to be daylight when I sell them. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated. A little side note...I have been going to this sale for the past 5 years or so and I don't ever recall anyone doing anything for kids...and also this sale usually attracks anywhere from 3,000-8,000 people for the day. TIA!!!

You would have the necklaces precut but not tied. Beads can usually be picked up at places like joannes fabric or a craft store. Look for store coupons and sales. Prices vary depending on if you want to invest in glass beads or plastic. I would also ask if the store would give you a discount as it is for charity.

I know what i'd be selling at a flea market - SNO CONES! You could buy a few tubs of ice (some places donate it), keep it in a cooler, buy the paper cones/cups and juice and i bet the line would be long..in this heat! All you need is the sno-cone machine. We got one at Kmart and use it alot, especially lately! :mickeybar

Here's an idea that can complement the princess circlets but geared more for boys or younger kids. It's a really simple idea and cheap to make. I think I saw them selling from between $3.50 - $5.00 depending. It was a spider dangling on a long elastic string from the end of a 2 foot stick (like the ones for a balloon on a stick). The spider was made from a big pom pom with pipe cleaners for legs and google eyes. The kids really enjoyed bouncing them around, making them "jump" on people or jump around the ground, etc.
I wish my husband had let me buy one to keep as a "sample" (oh who am I kidding? I wanted to play with it! heee!) but he's too cheap to buy stuff like that.
