I'm really, really sorry if this question has been asked and answered ad nauseam, but I'm wondering about sales tax.

When you purchase anything at Disney World, whether it's a sit-down meal in a nice restaurant, a snack from a booth, or a sweatshirt in one of the shops, is the price listed the price you pay? Or is there sales tax on top of the ticketed/listed price? If so, what is the tax rate?

Appreciate any info you can offer! :)

Most things will have the tax added on which is (I think) 6.5%.

All of the items you can buy from a food cart have tax included like pop, water, popcorn, etc.

Clothes have tax and so does food. Be sure to include it in your budget.

The General Sales Tax rate in Florida is 6.0%. Each county has an option for a County Surtax of 0.5, 1.0 or 1.5% for a total Sales Tax of 6.0%, 6.5%, 7.0% or 7.5%. This isdetermined by a proposal that is voted on by registered voters. In addition, many counties have a "bed tax" which is added to the Sales Tax for short-term rentals.

Most of WDW is in Orange County. The Sales Tax rate (meals and non-food purchases) is 6.5%. Just as an aside the bed tax is 5.0% so on a room the total tax charged is 11.5%.

The All-Stars Resorts and Wide World of Sports are the only parts of WDW that are in Osceola County. The Sales Tax rate there is 7.0% and the bed tax is 6.0%, so the total tax on a room is 13%.

Dang, Mike! I feel like a CPA myself now! :rotfl:

Thanks for the very informative answer. FL sales tax is still better than WA sales tax ... I think we're paying 8.8% in Seattle (9.3% for restaurants). :earseek:

Thats the sad part..before I moved, prices were high compared to others I hear. We did have very low property tax (actually the lowest in the nation)...but this left the schools in pitiful shape.

Just to add - in Florida the price of prepared food has tax on it but no the price of un-prepared food like say at the grocery store - so if you bought cheese at the grocery store you wouldn't pay sales tax but if you purchased prepared bbq chicken at the grocery store you would pay sales tax. Not sure how they handle it at WDW but thought I would add how it is at the grocery stores (well at least around me - Palm Beach County area)
