Just checking to see if you'd found this forum. Be sure to meet the folks that you make friends with on here. I met 3 families out of the 5 that were with me last week. We loved them and our children were "fast friends" from the moment we met up with them at the Radisson pool pre-cruise. We had a 3 p.m. Meet the first day on deck 10, enjoyed the sail-a-way party together, and did pool-waiting most every day. The kids just bounce from the Mickey pool and slide to the Goofy pool. Just like little homing pigeons, they'd return every now and then to change pools or get food/drink.
Oh a tip about food/drink....the pizza, hotdogs, burgers, ice cream, fruit, etc. on deck 9 are included in your price, as is the beverage station on 9 aft.
If you go to the movies, take food and drink from there instead of buying refreshments outside the theater.
They put out cookies and brownies at 3:00 daily near the beverage stations.
I didn't find that till the last day when we were heading to see The Pacifier.

We just booked this cruise. It wil be DH,me,DD14 and DD6. We were on the Magic April 2 of this year and can't wait to try out the Wonder. For those of you that it is your first cruise, you are in for an awesome time. Has anyone heard about a Halloween party? I had a friend go a couple of years ago and she said there was trick or treating and a party. I wonder if it takes the place of the pirate party. Let me know if you guys know anything about it. :earboy2:

We are cruising with you as well. There's me, DH and DS (6). We will be part of a larger group. Our family is going to WDW to attend my nieces wedding and then about 25 of us are cruising together.
As far as pirate night goes, I was told by DCL that Pirate Night would not be on Halloween.

pacercolt and nicksmom916 ... welcome! Glad to know other DISers will be on this cruise. I'm a first time cruiser. Really looking forward to it. I am wondering about the halloween party or what dress clothes I should bring. I'll certainly bring nicer slacks/shirts to wear in the evening. I know I'll need a jacket if I want to go to Palo. Any thoughts?

Just booked the cruise on Tuesday. We'll be sailing with DD6 and DS4. Sailed on the Wonder with extended family back in '03. Last family cruise with DD and DH was Sept '04 on the Celebrity Century.
Anyone been on a Halloween cruise before? Has anyone thought about trick or treating? I am planning to bring some H candy and will participate if we can. If nothing formal, perhaps we can get some DISers to have an informal T/T route?
We are all very excited!

Hello Everyone! I can't believe it took me this long to find this forum, but this will be our first cruise ever.
I'll be traveling with my DH (he and I are in one stateroom) and MIL and DS (7) and DS (1) will be in another. We are so excited!!!!!
I too was wondering about Halloween festivities. A good friend at work went on a Carnival Cruise last year and said there was trick-or-treating on the ship. Oct. 30th is also my older son's birthday and the travel agent seems to think he'll get some special treatment.
So nice to "meet" you and thanks for the tips. I think they will prove invaluable to first time cruisers.

I have yet to hear anything specific about trick or treating or a costume contest. I assumed they would do something like that. What can you tell us or where did you get information?
My family (DH, DD's 8 & 5 and myself) is on this cruise as well. Someone from DU just posted a link to their cruise news page with very basic info on trick or treat and costume contest. and Jetty park runs along the channel that the ships take out to sea

We are interested in joining a DIS T/T group. I'm not sure we really need maps -- may not be too many of us.
We could set up a time/place to meet on the ship on Sunday evening or Monday morning to exchange room numbers and set up a time to start. It probably makes sense to coordinate the DIS T/T with the ship-board times. Alternatively, if someone wants to take the lead, we can organize it through our posts over the next few weeks.
We have late dinner seating since we booked so late -- that may also factor into the time for the T/T.
So excited!

WOW ! ! ! We booked just Wednesday and out docs arrived today!
We'll be dancing away at the sailaway  so that may be a good place to meet. Deck 10 is usually quite a bit less crowded but you miss the action up there. DW has a few beers in me by then so I'll dance with her (like it takes massive convincing for me to refill my refillable mug several times before 5 pm) :drinking1
As far as T or T, we're up for anything. If anyone has any suggestions, please jump in! Anyone have any big plans for Nassau? We probably won't even get off of the ship (DD8 wants to see the aquarium again but we'll see).

My wife and I have been there 2 times its nice the atlantis is nice and the aquarium is really nice. But they have a whole water park there on the beach. Last time we went we went to The Blue Lagoon. Its where they filmed the movie. Of course you have to pay for it but you can swim with dolfins and stingray there or just lay on the beach and snorkel. I am hoping the halloween party is fun the cruise line sent us a leter with are tickets and I called disney so they are having one how big it is will be left to be seen. I will bring some candy along to just in case.

The harbour tour is ok we did and some family did it as well. You can see everything if you take a cab to Atlantis it was kind of a let down for just sitting on a boat and someone telling you about the city. And if it is the same tour you have to walk a long way up to Atlantis so with kids it could be hard. We did have fun a Blue Lagoon but you have a long boat ride to get there. I think we might do the Pirate tour if we don't go to Atlantis.

I know about the Halloween TT but what is the Pirate Night?
tstobb
10-18-2005, 06:43 AM
Pirate Night is a special themed night where pirates "take over" the ship for the night and Captain Mickey & his crew save the day. We are bringing pirate costumes to wear but they give you bandanas and eye patches during dinner. The main part of the show happens at a deck party and there are fireworks to wrap it all up.
Your 4 year old will love the cruise! We've never done the 4 day but have done both the 3 and 7 day and there are photo opportunities everywhere, every day. If she loves being a princess as much as my daughter, she won't be at all out of place wearing her dresses to dinner (especially at Triton's).
I saw that you are from Florida - did you get to book at the FL resident rates?

For the first time cruisers my wife found a link on www.cruiseclues.com that said to take a cheap plasic shoe holder that hangs from a door. You can put it in your bathroom and put all your personal items in it instead of them sitting on the sink. We did this on are last cruise and it helped alot. I wish we would have had it when we took are daughter when she was 18 months for all her baby stuff.

Getting excited!
I expect our kids (DS4 and DD6) will dress up each and every night of the cruise. I picked up pirate costumes for the both of them, and we'll be bringing several other costumes aboard. I think as long as the kids are neat and presentable, it is fine to wear costumes to dinner, keeping in mind the dress code in the restuarant for the evening (in other words, no power rangers on semi formal night, but a prince or princess is okay if it is reasonably dressy).
We did one of the Disney Nassau excursions to Atlantis last time -- the one that tours the hotel and goes to the aquarium. My DD, who was 4 at the time, loved it. That being said, I think this time we will not even get off the ship in Nassau and just enjoy some family time in an uncrowded pool and around the uncrowded ship!
I will be picking up some chocolate today for T/T and to snack on in the movie theater. Whatever is left over we will give to the Oceaneer Club staff.
Word is that the 2007 rates for Jan through April will be released tomorrow (Oct 19)! :hourglass

We are doing the not so scary hallween party the 27.
We fly in to MCO on Friday night, but at this point have no plans to head to WDW. We are driving to Cocoa Beach and will be at the port as early as possible on Sunday. I suppose if Willma hits the beach hard, we might consider a day at the parks - but we just did WDW in January and my DH is not keen on going back again so soon. We might do Universal instead. But again, that is ONLY if we find out that the beaches are not useable.
I have a T-or-T question - is someone willing to gather a list of families who want to partake and their cabin numbers (and perhaps number of kids)? Otherwise how will we know where to go? :confused3 :confused3
My kids don't know yet about the cruise - only that we are "going to Cocoa Beach" and they are already counting the days :sunny: . As am I!

We're planning on driving up on Saturday morning to Downtown Disney, grabbing lunch there and then heading over. Total drive for us is almost exactly 4 hours from home to the Radisson. Hoping to get lucky & close on our refi on our house before leaving. If that happens, we're heading to Saratoga Springs on Saturday to sign up for DVC!

Not sure how they're doing it on the Magic BUT if everyone who is interested wants to PM me with their room number and how many children would be involved, I would be more than happy to try to keep it organized. Please keep in mind that I live in SW Florida and may be off-line for periods of time, depending on the track of Wilma.
How about as well as PM'ing me, we plan a mini-meet for once we're on-board? We plan on being at the port early & eating lunch pretty much right away. How does about 3:30 (before the safety drill), on deck 10, starboard side (terminal side), overlooking the Goofy pool sound? We should be relativly easy to find - all 5 of us will be wearing matching Mickey Tiki shirts or dresses :cool1:
If anyone has any ideas, please jump in!
tstobb - sending pixie dust your way for Willma :wizard: :wizard: .
If you think it better that someone else compile the list (due to uncertain internet service), I would also be willing to make a list of room numbers and number of children. Could I then post it on this thread?

We went last September and felt lucky to make it in between hurricanes, but we didn't get to Castaway Cay. We're really looking forward to that this year. Hope Wilma won't cause too much of a ruckus. Anyone else with little kids? The TorT sounds like fun. Have you thought about what time to do it?
Welcome hilbil,

Has anyone decided on a time for the trick or treating? I am trying to coordinate the 7 kids from my family that will be cruising and I need to make sure that the t or t won't conflict with any excursions or Palo reservations.
Thanks in advance.

We have late seating as well and don't plan on getting off of the ship in Nassau - 4:30 to 5 works for us as well.
Looking at a kids navigator form early this month, there is a character event for the 4-7 year olds on Monday from 4-5. Since there are only a couple of these events in the clubs, if my DD wants to go, I'd like her to be able to. We have early dinner.
For those on excursions, when do you return?

Added our cabin number
It looks like there are about 31 kids so far and 14 cabins. I'm guessing that once we have the room number list together, each family walks the route individually, rather than going in one big group. Does that sound right? How about if we start at 4:30 so that people with early dinner can wrap up in time and those with afternoon plans can participate when they are done. Of course, we don't know when DCL will be doing their big TT on board yet, but I'm willing to bet it will be too crowded to enjoy.
I liked tstobb's idea to meet the first day on Deck 10 starboard at 3:30. We'll be there :cool1:
Anyone else doing the Wilma watch?
I've been watching Wilma all week and also keeping an eye on all the tropical waves - include the one that just became tropical depression 25. Right now, it looks like they will both be gone by the middle of the week. :cool1: But, CC might get hit hard :sad1: .

3:30 works for us as well.
We had DD's birthday party yesterday and then spent the rest of the day boarding up the house. Got about 1/2 way done so I need to finish up today. Hopefully Wilma won't get any stronger as she comes in - they're predicting a fast-moving cat 2 or 3 for here so it shouldn't be too bad. I'm also scheduled to fly up to Cincinnati for the day on Tuesday for business so hopefully she'll be gone by then. Watching "Alpha" & hoping that it misses Castaway Cay.

Thanks for all of the concern :grouphug: . We came through great. Lost about a dozen shingles from the roof and had our fig tree uprooted but it's already replanted & doing fine. Still without power at home but my office was open voluntarily. so I figured I'd at least come in to check my e-mail :goodvibes . Hopefully they get the power back on before we lose all of the food in the freezers.
Driving in today, saw a lot of damage from downed trees to street signs bent down to the ground. Most stop lights are out (70% of FPL area is without power) and very few people remember that you treat that as a 4 way stop - almost got creamed twice on the way in. Schools are out today but will probably be opened tomorrow depending on the power situation. My parents pool cage is gone. Not down - gone, missing, nowhere to be found - kind of like Dorthy in the Wizard of Oz.
Looking forward to the trip! 1 week from today we'll be on Castaway Cay! pirate:
tstobb - Glad to hear everythings OK.
hilbil - from what I've read on the boards and what my husband said (based on watching Wilma's path over google earth), there is probably some wind damage, but hopefully that's all. If I know Disney, they'll have it cleaned up in time for us :sunny: .

Hi everyone. We will be leaving tomorrow morning at 6:00 so....right now I'm frantically trying to pack and get everything together. I have printed the cabin list for the trick or treat and I have just re-read the past posts. I just want to confirm that we are meeting on Sunday at 3:30 on deck 10 and that the trick or treat will be on Monday at 3:30. What are we going to do just have everyone go t or t ing on their own starting at 3:30? Sorry to ask so many questions but while this is my second Disney cruise it's our first Halloween cruise.
Also, I'm glad that all of you who were in the storms path made it through okay. Too bad about the damage to Castaway Cay. Last year they had to change our cruise itinerary to give them an extra day to clean up Castaway Cay from a hurricane that had just been through. Since it was my first time there I really didn't see any damage but I know that some of the veterans were saying that they could really tell.
See you all on Sunday.

Good Morning to anyone who hasn't left yet! Still only on-line at work. FPL now says that they should have our power back on by the 15th of November :confused3
We're having a decorating contest here at work and our department is doing a movies theme so our section decided on Pirates of the Caribbean! pirate: I made a 12 X 15 fabric treasure map (I impressed myself with that one!) and one of the other people made a 12 foot long, 1/2 of the Black Pearl, complete with tattered black sails & a skeleton walking the plank! I got a fantastic set of large, old keys off of eBay that are now hanging from a stuffed dog's mouth, teasing the "prisioners" in our cubes. Quite a contrast to the group next to us that is doing the Wizard of Oz. We figured that we should be able to fit their Munchkins into our cannons :goodvibes

I enjoyed T or T as well, but I have a lot of candy left. I have to agree with you about the chaos on Deck 9. After the DIS-board T or T ended I went up to see what was going on on Deck 9. I found a table in a relatively quiet eddy and watched the crowd pass by.
I think I saw the spooky door. Were you on Deck 7? I was down the hall from you in 7121.
I had a great cruise. Sorry I missed the Sunday meeting.

No problem Disney will have a trick or treat but it will consist of the kids going from table to table on the pool deck and getting next to nothing as treats. What we did we saw that past cruisers had done was find people that wanted to and had them bring candy on board so the kids could go from cabin to cabin getting candy. The one thing I saw that was important was keeping your thread alive on here and also try cuisecritic.com to. Even if you just bump your thread it keeps it on the main page and easy to find. The more people you have the more fun it is but all you have to do is decide on a time to do it we did the same time as the cruise trick or treat. Just meet the first day of the cruise somewhere and set it up. If you can get someone to just get all the names and cabin numbers on paper so you know where to go. What I did was just start updating on the thread and printed it off before we left. We ended up having so much extra candy I went up on the deck where kids had been standing in line for 45 miutes waiting to get a little puzzle or spider ring. I gave all the candy that I had left out up there. Good luck.
