dh is heading to Ireland next week with some people from his company (Guinness). They have some dinners planned out and we're trying to figure out what kind of clothes he'll need. They'll be in Kilkenny and Dublin, dinners are at Kilkenny Castle and The Lady Helen Dining Room at Mount Juliet in Kilkenny and the Mahaffy House in Dublin. Is anyone here familiar with these places? Would khakis and a sport coat be okay, is a tie necessary or recommended?

Hi mtemm I am from Kilkenny and dinner in the Castle is a special treat as there is no public restaurant there. I would guess it is only going to be people from your DH's group and their associates in Ireland so if they are all going to be in khakis and a sport coat he should be OK.

Mount Juliet is another top venue and will probably be just them again. If when he is here he finds it is going to be more formal he could pick up a nice tie or two in Kilkenny :teeth:

It's a lovely place and he is sure to have a fantastic time - if I see any Americans in khakis and a sport coats I'll give them a wave :earsboy:

thank you! I was just looking at where they are staying (Mount Juliet Conrad) and have decided it is WRONG that wives are not included on this trip. sigh. someday. Kilkenny looks lovely.

It is a lovely hotel and right on a golf course (The Irish Open has been held there a few times) - The dinner in the hotel might be more formal but I am sure if he asks they will tell him what is suitable attire.

I totally agree that wives should have been allowed on this trip - just tell him when he visits the castle be sure to go across the road to the Design Centre and get something very nice for you :teeth:

yep, he's actually going to be gone over my birthday and I told him he'd better bring back something nice for me. And I don't mean a "I saw the Book of Kells" t-shirt. LOL!

I'm working hard on him to figure out a way to include wives on the next trip. :)
