Hi Lorelai71

We're are going too.

Me my DD11 DSIL Newphew 12 & neice 16. We are leaving the husband home this trip.

We are actually arriving Tuesday, & going to the parks first. Then we are off to the Raddison the night before.

Who is going with you & what are your plans. Is this your first trip?

Lorelai71 Most of NJ schools will be closed, this week, & I am sure, that you will run into many fellow NJ cruisers.

What are you plans, & do you have any children?

Hi Pat,
Cool!

my cast: me-33; mother-53; brother-25

This is our first cruise ever and I am foaming at the mouth because it will be a surprise trip for my mother.

We have never been to WDW either. In fact we are planning to go to the World from Aug 11-20. My DM and DB know about the WDW trip but they don't know that I am booking a cruise as well.

It is killing me to keep it a secret but I know they will appreciate it so much.

Right now I have a room on hold: 2076-cat 9 and from what I have read on these boards it is best to arrive the day before so I plan on getting there on wed. Unfortunately, I am a teacher so I won't be able to leave until school lets out which means and early evening flight.

I have no clue where to stay. I would prefer to stay in a hotel at the port than at the airport. I am looking for the cheapest hotel because by the time we get there all we will want to do is get some sleep so we can start Thursday with lots of energy.

Do you know of any hotels around the port?

p.s. there is another person from this board who is also sailing screen name: ak1372 .

How many cruises have you been on?

WHAT A GREAT SUPRISE. ACTUALLY THIS IS MY SECOND TRIP. WE WENT LAST YEAR FOR NJ TEACHERS CONVENTION. AGAIN, IT SEEMED LIKE ALL OF NJ WERE ON THE BOAT.

I THINK YOUR ROOM IS A GREAT CHOICE. IT IS MID SHIP CLOSE TO THE ELEVATORS. GREAT CHOICE IN ROOM. 2ND FLOOR IS EASY TO GET ON & OFF THE BOAT, & TO GET AROUND.

I THINK YOU SHOULD RESERVE YOUR ROOM ASAP. I HAVE MINE AT THE RADDISON RESERVED. WITH AA DISCOUNT I GOT IT FOR 110.00 PER NIGHT.

THE REASON I CHOOSE THIS HOTEL IS THAT THEY DON'T CHARGE FOR LEAVING YOUR RENT A CAR (A SAVINGS OF 40.00) PORT CHARGES 10.00 A DAY FOR PARKING. ALSO, THE RADDISON HAS FREE ROUND TRIP SHUTTLE TO & BACK TO THE PORT.

HAVE YOU RESERVED YOUR RENT A CAR AS OF YET? DO THAT ASAP.

GO TO THIS WEB SITE:

http://mousesavers.com/

THE ABOVE WILL HELP YOU WITH CODES & TIPS. IT IS GREAT. SIGN UP FOR THE NEWS LETTER.

http://www.allearsnet.com/cruise/cruise.shtml

ONCE YOU GET TO THE ABOVE SITE (ALLEARSNET) GO TO THIS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE PAGE: Magical Disney Cruise Guide - in PDF format

THE ABOVE WILL GIVE YOU ALL OF THE INFORMATION YOU WILL NEED.

ORDER PASSPORTER'S FIELD GUIDE BOOK TO THE DISNEY CRUISE LINE.

I JUST LOVE MINE.

I WAS JUST IN WDW A MONTH 1/2 AGO. WHERE ARE YOU & YOUR FAMILY STAYING?

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS? DID YOU GET YOUR PLANE TICKETS AS OF YET?

AH LOT'S OF QUESTIONS.

Hi Pat,
Bear with me because I have so many questions. I only wished NJ convention could be longer :bounce:

Glad to hear we got a great room. I wasn't planning on renting a car because I figured we are getting there late Wed night probably around 10pm and then we go straight to the port on Thursday. Then on Sunday, I have to get the earliest flight back- I was thinking around 12noon because I have to go to work on Monday and I know I will need lots of sleep Sunday night. What are your thoughts on this?

Also, when we got to WDW in August we plan on using Disney transport. I want to just be able to relax and not worry about driving so we figured Disney transport would suffice. We plan to stay at CBR- I know it's a large resort but my brother really wants to stay there so....there we will stay.

I have the regular passporter and plan to get the passporter for the cruise line. I got Birm for WDW and for the cruise line and the unofficial guide for WDW. Plus I have been attached to these boards.

It is official, I am a Disney addict and I haven't gotten there yet!

Thanks for the tip on the raddison, I have AAA so I will check them out.

HI Lorelai71

If you are flying in late Wed night, I would stay at the airport. Try priceline, for a good price.

There is the Hyatt which is high priced, but very convient since it is at the airport. The Marriott which has free shuttle only about 10 min. from the airport. The next morning you come back & meet your Disney bus. Perfect.

You don't really need the rent a car then. Good for you guys.

Are you going to Epcot? That is my favorite, and you being a teacher, I think this will be yours also. Actually all the parks are great.

My DSIL & myself, will be at the adult on pool, so I am sure we will see you at the pool.

Let me know, if you have any more questions. I am becoming an ole pro at this. LOL

Lorelai71
04-19-2005, 09:02 PM
Hi Pat,
Thanks I will check out priceline. I also just pre-ordered the Passporter for Disney Cruises.

I was wondering if we should do the Disney bus or a town car. I am hoping the passporter might have a suggestion about this. What do you think?

From reading the guide books I figured I would love Epcot the most. I plan on visiting there on Saturday. I want to do Magic Kingdom on Friday (our full first day).

I am sure we will be at the adult pool. I can't wait!

Hi Patricia,
We are staying at Shades of Green on Walt Disney World. It is the former Disney Inn, and is for military & DOD. It is right next to the Poly. We are really looking forward to the cruise. We will be coming down on the 4th or 5th, and going to the parks for a few days first. I think we will be going to MK, Epcot and possibly one of the water parks while we are there. I will be on the lookout for you! :goodvibes

Cast: DH, DD 11, DS 9, and myself

This will be our first cruise, second trip as a family to DW in two years. Second trip during NJ week. So looking foward to it!!
We hope to fly into Orlando on Sunday, do the parks S, M, T, W, and drive to the port from DW Thurs. AM. We found a great deal on an Alamo car (129 for 8 days) and figure we will still be ahead of the game if we park it at the terminal during the cruise, and drive it back to the airport when we disembark.

We still haven't booked airfare yet and that is driving me CRAZY!! I have been checking Southwests scheldule daily waiting for it to open up for our dates.

Looks like some kids on these boards my DD age but none my DS age. Will keep watching this thread.

Peace.

Purtypat; You are so sweet for checking airfare for my dates!! However, if we were going to fly Spirit we would fly out of Atlantic City as we live in S. Jersey (just outside of Phila.). I checked to see if maybe the sale applied to AC but the prices are unbelievable, something like $258 each way !!!!!

Hi purtyPat1- Thank you you the info on this thread. I'm really new to this and just figuring out how it works. I did answer your note but don't know if you received it because I didn't see it posted. My grandaughter will be 6 at time of trip and the little one will be 14 mos so they will not be playmates for your 11 year old daughter. Our grandson will be about 2 and a half. We are hoping to spend lots of time with them so you might see our daugheters at the adult pool and us in the Mickey ear with the spray going and the swim diapers! That's what so great about this trip. Something for everyone and everyone can trade off! This is our 2nd time on the Wonder but first time with our family so we are really looking forward to it. We still have a lot of arrangements to make so I'm sure I'll be posting again and again!

I have checked airtran out of philly, US3000 out of philly and spirit out of AC.
Airtran and US3000 have some decent deals but we would have to go outbound earlier Sat 5th and maybe come home a day later Mon the 14 , with some connecting, go to theor sites to see it this works for you.

We are waiting on southwest for now I really think they may release their scheldule this week, so if we can't get a decent rate with them I may do some changing in our scheldule, :worried: I would rather save money on airfare and spend it on the vacation even if that means going a little longer.

I totally agree with your statement about the airfares. :sad2: Southwest came into the Philly market after our last trip (for which we had airfare Tue to tues at $162.00 pp round trip) I thought it would be even cheaper this time on SW, but Sunday to Sunday is not the bargain time to fly.

Good Luck, Peace,

Us teachers are known for having tons of fun. :Pinkbounc In fact, I know I will be running around acting just like the children. Hi This will be our first cruise ever! Traveling with my husband and ten year old daughter and 8 year old son. We will be off-site at WDW from 11/4-11/10 then bon voyage! We haven't decided on things like going to Palo or shore excursions. Any recommendations? We will be on deck 7, category 5.

HI wackywexler,

"Congratulations," your going to love it.

My suggestion, do everything on the ship since you only have 3 days, except Bahamas day, there are many things to do.

There are many excursions, just depends, on your likes & dislikes.

We are beach lovers, & are going to Cable Beach in Bahamas.

Are you from NJ? Where are you staying the night before your cruise?

My DD just turned 11. She loved the club last year.

We are staying at the Raddison the night before.

We are you staying in Orlando?

Can't wait!!!!!

Hi PurtyPat! We are from Southern California and spend lots of time at Disneyland but have never been to Florida. We are Marriott Time Share owners so we traded into the Marriott Cypress Harbour for our stay. We are taking a red eye and landing at 6am Friday the 4th and checking out the morning of the 10th to get to the ship!! My husband is really looking forward to relaxing after 6 days in the parks!!! We are trying to decide if we should forgo one of the restaurants and do Palo? Nassau didn't look too exciting but I thought about checking out Atlantis, but I think hubby might prefer to lay about on a beach by then or we could just enjoy the ship. Thanks!

07-26-2005, 12:15 PM
We have the late dinner seating.

I am doing my own Nassau shore excursion courtesy of a reference to this idea in "Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and Its Ports of Call" second edition page 154. I have always wanted to see the Atlantis resort and play in their pools, lazy river, water slides through sharks, etc. The only way to have access to their pools is by being a resort guest. The cheapest room I can find at Atlantis is $305.00. However, the Comfort Suites Paradise Island, Bahamas, has access to their pools. So I have booked a room for four there. Internet users rate (same as AAA rate) of $171.00 (2 double beds, smoking [non smoking rooms seem hard to come by, but I am not planning on being in the room]). They add on 12% tax and $4.00 per person over 12 per night housekeeping gratuity and $4.00 per person over 16 per night energy surcharge. I therefore estimate that our cost will be about $208.00 plus the cost of a taxi cab ride to and from the resort. Their website indicats that they are located adjacent to the Atlantis Resort and their guests have full use of the Atlantis facilities: pools, beach, tennis, health club, water park and signing privileges in all of their gourment/specialty restaurants/lounges. I beleive Atlantis charges everyone additional $ to access their aquariums. I did call the Comfort Suites and confirmed that I could check in early and get my passes to go over to the Atlantis Resort. I figure we will end up paying about $62.50 per person for the excursion with taxi fare, not including any food or souvenirs. The Atlantis Beach Day excursion is $60 for an adult and $45 for a child (barring any price increases) and does include a meal voucher, but no access to Atlantis pools, water park or aquarium, just retail areas and the casino, so I feel like what I am doing is a better deal. For me, this is perfect, giving me access to exactly what I want and I can do it on my schedule. I am sure it is not for everyone though, any thoughts? :sunny:

:sunny:

Hi wackywexler, I think that sounds great but I am NOT an expert. I have read about others doing the same thing.

Since this is our first cruise, I think we will be staying on the ship or perhaps we might do a little walking around the island.

Michboro, We have the late seating but that's because we are three adults. From what I have read, many people with young children request the early dinner seating.

Who else has or does not have shore excursions?

Hey wackywexler,

I found this thread and thought you might want to check it out. It's Atlantis for $99 unfortunatley it's not for our November time frame. However, you might want to keep an eye on that website for more details such as this.

I believe that there are 18 of us going. All of the kids going are girls ranging from 3 to 10! :earsgirl:

We are "staying" at the Comfort Suites as well for our day in Nassau. We will be exploring the Atlantis hotel.

Some of us will be visiting the MK on Wednesday and are staying at the Nickelodeon Family Suites in Orlando then driving to PC on Thursday morning!

This is our first Disney Cruise! :cool1:

Hi all. Im a little messed up trying to post so if this has already gone through I am sorry. I was glad to be notified of this thread as I lost track of it. Thanks for the list and now we have 18 more! We have early seating for dinner. We will probably stay on the ship as there is so much to do in only 3 days. We will happilykeep the kids if their parents want to check out Atlantis. We had the opportunity to stay there several years ago and it is beautiful. Im sure all of you who are going will really enjoy it! May I ask if any of you have taken out trip insurance? I am considering it.Im sure everybody is getting very excited as we count down!

We did purchase trip insurance. My DH is in the military, and I figured for the amount of money we are spending, it was worth it to spend a little more for the peace of mind it will provide me.
I am getting so excited, the kids are talking about this trip all the time! It is our first cruise, we will be spending 3 days in the parks first, staying at Shades of Green.

My intention was to take out insurance but didn't because...

My dad had terminal cancer and passed away last December. My FIL had cancer for 14 years and unexpectedly he passed away 5 months before my dad. So, our main reasons for taking the insurance are no longer valid. Should something unexpected arise, either my husband or myself would stay behind and handle the situation and the other would take the kids on the cruise. My MIL will be coming with us (and she did take the insurance), hopefully, she and my mom will stay healthy!

We really need this vacation after the crazy year we had last year!

Hi all,

I just wanted to check in with everyone.

I can't believe that it is less than 2 months away. So what is everyone doing to get ready?

Are you all taking passports? We are. I know that they are not mandatory yet but we have them so I rather be "safe than sorry".

Also, would love to get a DIS meet on the first day. I have never done this before so if anyone else would like to organize it just jump in.

From other threads, it seems that before, during or after the sail away party might be a good time. Again, if anyone has a different time in mind just speak up.

What do you think? :hyper:

Jersey Week is basically the first full week in November. It's the Teacher's Conference and some of the schools have off the full week, others just the last 2 days. Lots of people take the oppourtunity to hit WDW then.

As for a meet...I have a 14 yr old and a 7 yr old. The 14 probabily wouldn't be too interested but the rest of us would be. This is our 1st cruise too so I don't know when the best time would be but I'm guessing right after the sail away party would be a great idea. So who wants to volunteer to get this shing dig going???? :teeth:

As for passports, we don't have them and will just be using bc's and dl's for id.

Seems like getting ready for Christmas when you know you put something somewhere but are just not sure where! I have been enjoying doing this planning but I think most of the group thinks Im getting a little nutty. I did warn everyone that they better be sure they got their appropriate ID ready! Other than that we are pretty much ready to go and really looking forward to it! If a dis meet can happen that would be great but time is so short with just the three days. In any event I also got some of the Green Mickey paint chips and plan to make tags etc. Dont think I'll let the rest know that they will be Dis-ers by proxy!LOL

We actually went to WDW this Aug and came back with a bit of a surprise: we bought into DVC. So we decided to head down to Disney on 11-8 and stay at the Boardwalk Villas for 2 days. Then we are going to stay at the Sarotoga Springs Resort on sunday night. We will return on Monday. yep, I am going to take 2 days off work. I feel so guility (not!)

I can't wait either especially since this is a surprise for my mom. She has no idea :Pinkbounc Let's hope that she doesn't open the cruise documents when they come in the mail.

Mickey Pool 4:30 sounds great :cheer2: Don't forget to wear something lime green (DIS colors) so that we can spot each other. A green ribbon or pin is easy to see at a distance.

If you would like to share a table at the late seating PM me. There are 3 of us. We should call with requests before. Saves time on the ship.

We'll probably arrive at the terminal about noon. Tiffany towncar always got us to the port very early. No lines. This time we may take the DCL bus just to experience it. Downside will be the lines. The characters in the port made the wait entertaining though.

We're staying at the Grand Floridian arriving on Monday. DS#1 is meeting us there. He's a student at the Univ. of South Florida, Tampa. We reserved a room for him at the GF too so that we could have a little family reunion. It sure will be nice to see him again. Haven't seen him since August

Whenever we go to a DIS meet I make up pins/badges with our DIS names in green. I've been using the "Fun badges" from Michaels but there are probably other companies that make them at craft stores. They're round clear & plastic with a pin on the back. You just open them up & put your paper badge inside. Snap it shut. I used Publisher to make the paper design which is on my other computer. I'll send an example of last years. After it's all put together I put a green ribbon behind it. They're easy to spot in crowd. :wave2:

Mine was USPS. It was a small box that the postman left on my doorstep.

One of our dds visiting and has a question about going to Cable Beach on the Nassau day. In looking back it looks like that is in PurtyPat's plans. PP could you tell us about the distance to Cable beach. Is it a short cab ride? When you go which area do you go to? Do you have to get a beach pass like in NJ? Are there rest rooms? So many questions!TIA for any information :goodvibes

Another question! Does anyone know if you can use E-Z Pass on the toll road from Orlando to Port Canaveral? If not, it probably be good to have exact change. About how much total are the tolls?

DCL still didn't assign me a stateroom yet, and usually they don't send documents out until stateroom is assigned. My travel agent told DCL to send my documents directly to me right away, even though stateroom is not assigned yet. My travel agent said even though stateroom is usually assigned by now, it is nothing to worry about. I should have my documents by Thurs. or Fri.

We are planning to leave WDW about 10am to arrive at the port between 11 and 11:30. I hope to find a place to buy a bottle or two of wine on the way.

I also was wondering if we could use our EZ pass from WDW to the port and back to the airport. I remember last trip wishing we had it.

I am really getting soooo excited!!!! But feel overwhelmed by all I still have to do.

HI EVERYONE,

I HAVE READ ABOUT CABLE BEACH OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS. I DIDN'T GO LAST YEAR (I SHOPPED IN NASSU INSTEAD BIG MISTAKE)

FROM WHAT I HEARD, YOU CAN TAKE A BUS UNDER 2.00 A PERSON OR TAKE A CAB FOR ABOUT 25.00 ONE WAY.

IT IS LOCATED AT A BEAUTIFUL RESORT (FORGOT WHICH ONE WILL LOOK AT MY PASSPORT FOR INFO) I HAVE HEARD YOU CAN SWIM IN THERE POOL, AT NO COST, LOCATED NEXT TO THE BEACH. NO ONE REALLY CHECKS.

HERE IS AN OLD THREAD, THAT I COPIED & PASTED LAST YEAR

I WILL START A THREAD ABOUT IT, & SEE THE GOOD & THE BAD ABOUT IT.

HOPE THIS HELPS

To go cheaply, Walk up through the market and look for
the bus stop (wrong side of the road, remember).

You want the #10 bus that's going left to right as you
stand withyour back to the market - I think it will be
marked cable beach, but I would n't swear to it. It will cost you a dollar each, each way, unless they've recently raised the rates.

This is not a huge bus like the city buses back in the states, but the folks are friendly, and I enjoyed it.

Hi Nov. 10th Dis group. :) You will all be boarding the Wonder right after my Nov. 6-10 group leaves. Someone in our group reported that as of Nov. 6th, Blue Lagoon Beach Day and the Dolphin Encounter excursions have been cancelled by Disney. Disney is busy making other arrangements for the people who have booked them and everyone will be contacted.

Check out the last few pages of our Nov 6th cruise thread if you need more information. Fortunately my son and daughter-in-law booked the Dolphin Encounter directly from their site.

Thanks Patricia for the information. :) I did a little research on the board over the weekend and I think the thread noted the hotel to be either the Wynhdam Hotel or the Nassau Beach. Stated the Raddison wasn't very welcoming. Cab runs about $5 per person (but probably a $20 min) and is a 15-20 min ride. The bus is a dollar or two but trip longer and the stop is next to the Hagen Das Ice Cream Store on Bay Street. Now if only I had saved the thread # you could have read it yourself! I,m slowly learning how to get around these boards :rotfl2: I'm sure that whatever we all decide to do it will be Wonderful.

My kids enjoyed spending some time with theirs. This was our first cruise and I am hooked, loved it can't wait to go again. I think we are looking at the seven day western in the summer of '07. Finally back home again after a trip to dd this weekend and mostly unpacked. It really was wonderful wasn't it. Unfortunately our baby grandaughter got sick with a terrible cold and ear problem and ended up at the ship dr so it was tough on her and her mom and dad. The 6 a 2 year old of course didn't want to come home. I was getting a little nervous at 3 PM at the Mickey Pool after I stopped two people with lime green whatevers on and asked them if they were part of the Dis and they looked at me like I was crazy. Very nice to meet WackyWexler and family, N. Smith and family and PurtyPat. Also met Pewing and family at the final breakfast. We haven't decided on our next trip but do hope we will get to go again!
