Hi Marv.
Since you are from the UK :I´m wondering, how you fly to Florida? We usually go through the UK by BA.Its the simpliest way from Hannover and we are planning on flying the 22.April and stay at the Motel 6 on Cocoa Beach.
Any tips on getting some cheap tickets? How is Virgin?
Any advice will be appreciated. :confused3

We may be joining you. We are sailing Saturday on the Magic and looking to book 4 day 4/23 on board. I'll let you know when we get back. It would be myself, DH and DS 13.
Hi conny
This will be our first flight with Virgin we traveled with Brittania last time. I have heard all good reports on Virgin, but we would not fly with Britannia again.
We will be flying from Gatwick to Orlando, ime not sure how you go about just getting flights as we booked virgin as a package. I haven't heard a bad word about virgin flight's, you get seat back tv's, drinks are all included and children are looked after well by the staff on the flight.
Brittania was a small plane we were very cramped, we had to pay for drinks and tea was £1.50 on the way back. For a 9 hr flight we wanted a bit more looking after next time thats why we chose virgin.
I think Virgin do flight s seperatly it may be worth giving them a call but i will say the Admin side of virgin is awfall. I booked this holiday in Jan and an admentment was made in April with cabins on the cruise and ime still waiting for the new price too come from them.
See you there :earsgirl:
conny264
08-11-2005, 07:45 AM
Hi Marv.
Thanks for the answer.Virgin looks appealing to me but I would have to pay extra for the flight from Hannover to Gatwick.BA has this as a complete price,so I guess it´s BA again.Last year the flight was ok.They go via Gatwick as well.I decided to go even one day earlier on the 21.April,do some shopping in Orlando and visit the Merritt Island National Seashore and spent some time at the beach or watch the Magic leave.
The reason for this is,that I´m too scared, something might happen with our flight and I´m not so nervous with one day as a safety net. Can´t help it.
It´s seems, that we are still the only ones, looks like a nice empty ship to me(OK-just dreaming).
Take care and only 254 more days!!! :cool1: :cool1:
Lots of greetings from Germany

Hi guys :wave2:
We are hoping to join you too! We are currently booked on the Aug 20th 4 night but I have just managed to get some really cheap Virgin flights from Gatwick for Easter using miles plus money so I am waiting to hear from Dreams Unlimited about whether I have snagged their last reduced Cat 4 cabin. If not it will be the 3 night that leaves on Apr 20th.
Hopefully will post again when I know for sure..

Just giving this another bump!!
Are any of you fellow cruisers planning to get dressed up for pirate night, I know my DDs would love it but I won't be able to persuade my DH unless I know there will be others dressed up too!!
I know there is still another 7 months to go but I just love reading the cruise threads, makes it seem more real somehow!
Nicola
Hi nixieh
Ime not sure what we will do, if they sell pirate stuff on the ship the kids may want too. I dont want too plan too much, just take the cruise as it comes as its the end of our holiday and it will be a chance just too relax (i hope).
Sounds like your all excited just like me. Have you any idea what excursions you will do? Ime a bit lost on what to do and wether we should book before we leave or on the ship.
Simon Viness the Brits guide is out now for 2006 so i may get that, to get some ideas.
best wishes from another excited cruiser

Hi Marv
We are not going to book any excursions as we have friends who live in Nassau (part of the reason we are going on the cruise) and we are going to spend the day in Nassau with them. DH and I have been a few times before. If I wasn't doing that, I like the idea of the Atlantis day, it looks fun. We are just going to chill out on Castaway Cay (hope its hot!).
Speak to you soon

Hi everybody.
I´m wondering about pirate stuff too. There´s not a lot of clothes to get over here and frankly,I don´t want to travel light this time.So I think it will just be a nice tropical shirt for us.
I´m planning on doing the Caribbean Queen snorkel tour and my sister will stay on board.Maybe a little shopping in Nassau.
The excitment grows bigger every day, only 7 month to go.
We can´t wait to be there and meet you guys.
Take care
Conny :cool1: :cool1:
Hi again
My children are girl of 14yrs and twins girl and boy of 12yrs. The thing their most looking forward too is having a room of there own and ordering room service :rotfl:

Hi everyone,
Yes, I agree Marv the ship will be quite empty with just us on board!! Maybe someone else will join us nearer the time. Mind you I don't care if there are 5, 50 or 500 of us I am determined we are going to have a great time. The rest of my family don't even know about the cruise yet so I don't even have anyone to share my excitement with!!

Hi everyone! DH and I booked this cruise while on the Oct 15th Magic. This will be my 8th Disney Cruise. We also booked a room for our best friends who have never cruised before. The best way to get over the sadness of one cruise ending is to book another! :teeth:
Dh and I dressed up on Pirate night, I will be posting photos on the main cruise board as soon as he brings them home from work.
I am debating booking a room at the Comfort Suites on Nassau day to enjoy Atlantis, I did this 2 years ago when I was with my 2 dds and their freind. It worked out great and was far cheaper than DCL excursion prices.
Hi perdidobay
Nice to here we have someone else on board with us all. Its great that you have done so many cruise's you will be able to give us lots of advice and tips.
What excursionds would you advice a family to do? We were thinking of the dolphin encounter, but just a bit lost as to book this or do Discovery cove while in Orlando
Best wishes Marv

ACK! How did this thread get on the third page??
*because of me, I'm sorry*
Thanks Marv, I wish I could be of help with the shore excursions, but I haven't done any through DCL. Usually we book a room at Comfort Suites in Nassau and use the Atlantis facilites for the day.
As far as the dolphin encounter, my guess is you would get more bang for your buck at Discovery Cove.
As cruise advice, research all the websites like Barb's that show the navigators and deck plans. It will give you some idea of all the choices you will have. My biggest problem on a cruise is deciding what to do, cause I want to do it all! :cool1:

A big hello to everyone from Germany.
We can´t wait to go,I just got off the phone with Disney Dinning and I was able to get all my ADRs for the WDW part of our trip after the cruise.
No the only thing left is to wait untill Feb.8 when the final payment is done and Í can try to make some ressies on the DCL Website.I would love to get Palo Brunch for my sister and me for my birthday and the Caribbean Queen Snorkel in Nassau just for me.
It seems that the Info about certain Excursions is very limited, besides checkin the sites like passporter,Disboards, barbs etc, there is not much you can do.Maybe follow your own Gut instincts and hope for the best.If they are all approved by Disney,I´m sure they can´t be a complete disappointment(at least I hope so) :confused3 :confused3
So,only 166 days to go. :cheer2: :cheer2:

HOORAH!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
I have paid off my cruise in full...
Just got to save enough to pay for the Poly now.
Does anyone know if I can register the kids for the kids clubs online now or is that something else that has to wait until 90 days out?
Glad to see some more people on our cruise :cheer2:

11-07-2005, 07:10 AM
Hi Nicola.
How good for you.Congrats.
I think, registering is something that has to wait to the 90 day mark as a Castaway Club member,it´s 75 days for first time Cruisers and 105 days if you booked a suite.
So far,we just have to sit back and relax and wait untill our time comes.
Take care

Hi Marv.
Just checked the boards one final time before leaving on a 7 day work assignment.
Just when I thought I had everything planned and ready, the wonderful British Airways suprised me with cancelling all flights from Hannover to Britain and all flights to Gatwick.GREAT,no, what do I do :badpc: :confused3 .TA has no clue at all,she is useless.
Now we have to fly from Düsseldorf one day earlier,go into London, stay one night and take the Gatwick Express from Victoria Station the next morning to make the flight to Orlando, total costs of 100 Pound more.
I guess,I will be in serious need of a wonderful Cocktail once we will be finally onboard.
I´hope all your plans are running more smoothly and wish you all a happy Christmas.
Untill then
Take care and lots of greetings from Germany
Conny
Sorry to hear about that conny what a mess! What was their reason for cancelling all flights? What airport in London are you flying into. Have you thought about staying over night at Gatwick instead of traveling over London the day you have to fly. We are staying at the Hilton Gatwick over night and you can walk from the Hotel straight into the Terminal.
Really sorry about all this Conny
Have a lovely Christmas, look forward to meeting you on the cruise.
Bye for now

Hello.
Naturally BA gave no reason for doing thís. :confused3
We fly into Heathrow around 9 oclock in the evening and don´t want to go all the way to Gatwick.Victory Station seems like a good choice. The train will only be 30 minutes to Gatwick in the morning.Gatwick Hilton showed no availability for the 20.4. and all the others are too expensive just for sleeping for a couple of hours. :cloud9:
Anyway I got us a room now and we´ll manage.
So,I´m off to work for the next days and won´t be back untill Christmas.
Season greetings from germany to everyone and see you soon.
Conny
Well i hope you all had a great christmas. Ime getting jittery now knowing all the planning i have a head, wont be long now i cant believe it was nearly 2 years ago that we were in florida, only seems like yesterday.

It's just myself and my DS (6). We will be staying at POFQ for 5 nights before the cruise... then 3 nights after... I can't wait.
Are there any children in the same club as my son? pirate:
We started with the 4/15 - 7 night, then switched to the 4/23 - 7 night and I figured out that the 4 night cruise + the 5 nights at POFQ was actually cheaper than the entire 7 night cruise... since I'm a "gotta pay cash" kinda gal I ended up going the more economical route...
I can't wait!!!

Hi Kimmielee
A big welcome from Germany.
You will love the POFQ,we stayed there during our first trip to WDW in 2000.
The pool and the boattrip to DTD are wonderful.
See you soon

Welcome Kimmielee
My children are 2 at 12 and 1 at 14, Ime sure your son will make lots of new friends on board.
My 12 yr old,s will be 13 in september and they will be the age for the Oceaner Club, the age range for that club goes upto 12 yr but i dont know where it starts. If its from 6yr then your son will meet my children and if my daughter meets him i know she,ll mother him.
Conny i have n't made any reservations yet i think were just going to get off at Nassue and look around the port then make the most of the ship while it's More or less empty.
I may book up some spa treatment on board.
See you both there

Hi everyone,
Is everyone else getting really excited now??
Can anyone remind me what date we can call and make reservations for Palo, I can't remember if it is 70 or 75 days??
It's just myself and my DS (6). We will be staying at POFQ for 5 nights before the cruise... then 3 nights after... I can't wait.
Are there any children in the same club as my son? pirate:
:
Hi Kimmielee
I have 3 DDs (3,6 and 9) but I think my 6 yr old will probably want to spend most of her time in the club with her younger sister, she would probably prefer to hang out with her sisters as she is quite shy but I think she will be too young to go to the Lab with my older DD.
Whatever happens, I am sure all the kids (and us adults too) will have a great time!
Nicola
Hi Nixieh
Hi Nixieh dont no about Palo but ime able to make reservations and book Excursions i think from Febuary 3rd.
Were just going to wait untill we are on board and book a treatment in the spa and we decided that we will get of the ship at Nassau, have a look round then get back on board and make the most of the ship.
Ime getting very excited now, last night i decorated the kids pillowcases for the cruise. Ill hand them in on the cruise and hopefully they will come back all signed by the Disney Characters.
My to 12 year olds should be in the Oceaner lab but are on the edge of being a teenager so i dont know if they would be aloud in the Aloft, which is where thay want to go.
Any way look forward to seeing you on board
Marv

Hi Nixieh.
Yes we are getting more excited every day.
As a first time cruiser you are able to book Palo and everything else 75 days before sailing at midnight West coast time. But you have to do it online on the disneycruise website and the cruise has to be paid in full.Just log in and go to MY cruise with your reservation#.It´s eays,I have done it last Monday as a returning cruiser.
If you want to do it onboard, make sure you arrive early at Port Canaveral, they go quickly.
Take care and see you all in 81 days.

Well, it's official.... after changing cruises 3 times... :rotfl2:
I'm hoping to book Easter of 2007 for the 7 night and spend just 2 days at WDW before. That will give me plenty of time to plan again!
I'm debating about Nassau - with just my son and I. Perhaps we'll stay on the ship and see how he enjoys the pool when it's less crowded!
Has anyone ever done the Nassau excursions? If not, have you paid for a "day room" at the Atlantis Resort to have the run of thier property and the water park? :confused3
I'm so excited.... :Pinkbounc Only 77 days to go!!! :cheer2:
Nicola - do you have early seating for dinner? My DS (6) is very outgoing (just like his Momma) so perhaps the girls will take to him! He LOVES girls... I wish someone would have warned me that the whole "crush" thing with the little ones started so early. He came home with a little girl's phone number in his backpack the other day! :rolleyes2

Hi Marv
I saw your posts at the UK and Cruiseline Forum.I too have the AmEx Debitcard and will use it for Hotels and rental car.If you are worried about your spending onboard you can go to Guestservice any time and they will print you a copy of what you have on your invoice. If your spending is over 500,-$ they will do that automatically.
As far as I know, you can put some traveller checks on your account at Guestservice, not sure about Check-in.You get a detailed Invoice at the end of the cruise and if you don´t put a creditcard on your KTTW cards, you have to go to Guestservices on the last evening to settle things.
I can´t remember if you travel with kids, there is also the way to limit the spending on their cards.
Hope.that helps a little.
See you all in April
Conny
Yes thanks for your replys on the other post Conny.
I only want to be able to put spending on my card and husbands card if the kids want any thing they can come and ask me. I know the kids will want to play the arcades and you can buy the cards with money loaded on to them so that will keep them happy.
Ime so excited been out the weekend and got an out fit for the cruise getting things together slowly.
I will have to pack a gain for the cruise while over there but we have are own washing machine in the villa which will be great to get clothes clean and ready for the cruise.
See you very soon

See you soon

Yes conny only plan to take what we will use. We will be in Florida 20 days before so ime going to leave cases in the car at the port, hope they will be safe.

I still have to book our stay for the last three days. I bought an 8 night ticket for the first leg of our trip because it was so much cheaper to do the last three nights as "room only".
Marv - enjoy your holiday. I'm so envious  of how long you get to stay. Our vacation's in the states are much shorter. This is the first 2 week vacation I've ever been able to take! I'd love to have our business world allow vacations the way yours does! :worship:

Hi everybody
We hit our 60 day mark today and can´t wait to go.Although the weather isn´t to bad this weekend.
Did anybody make up their mind about a little get together on the firdt day onboard. We did that on our last cruise and it was a lot of fun and it was nice to see familiar faces from time to time on the remaining days and chat.
If someone is interested i would suggest around 3 o´clock at the Bar at the GoofyPool,in case some Kids want to swim. That leaves enough time for Lunch and be on time for the safety drill.
Opinions please.
Lots of excited greetings from Germany

It's getting closer!!!! Only 53 days before we leave and 58 days to the cruise!! :cheer2:
I've booked ADR's for our first 5 nights and the 3 nights after the cruise... I've made the ressies for the excursions, massage, nail appointments & Palo... All I have left to do is WAIT!!
One question to Marv and Conny - either of you thinking of getting a room at Atlantis or Comfort Suites to have access to all of the Atlantis resort? :confused3
Hi Kimmielee
I did think about hireing a room at the resort but have spent so much money on the cruise we would rather make the most of the facilities on the ship.
We are going to get off at Nassau and look around, see whats there and then go back to the ship and make the most of what we have already paid for.
I have hired bikes for castaway cay and have registered the kids into the club. Might just see what takes my fancy for the Spa while on board would,nt mind doing the rainforest room.
I just cant wait to relax while there. We will be apsolutly shattered by the time we do the cruise after spending time in the parks so just want to chill out and take it as it comes.
See you there not long to wait now :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :woohoo:

Hi Kimmielee
No,we won´t go to Atlantis.I´ll do the Caribbean Queen Snorkel Tour in the afternoon and my sister wants to relax at the Pool.
We might get off the ship in the morning and go the Straw Market and look around a little.
It´s 54 days untill we fly over.Can´t wait. :cheer2: :cheer2:

My family of 25 are cruising on the Wonder April 23-27, 2006. I think we are 12 adults and 14 children - I'm not sure any more as I have lost count. I have four grandchildren going, ages 3, 5, 9 and 9. I also have great nieces going who are young like that, but I don't know their ages.
Everyone in my family are first time cruisers except for my two sisters. I am so excited about going. My life is consumed with planning and researching the Net about the cruise. :bounce:
It's just myself and my DS (6). We will be staying at POFQ for 5 nights before the cruise... then 3 nights after... I can't wait.
Are there any children in the same club as my son? pirate:
We started with the 4/15 - 7 night, then switched to the 4/23 - 7 night and I figured out that the 4 night cruise + the 5 nights at POFQ was actually cheaper than the entire 7 night cruise... since I'm a "gotta pay cash" kinda gal I ended up going the more economical route...
I can't wait!!!

I read where you have "registered the kids into the club" at Castaway Cay. Can you tell me what that is? I will be parasailing while at CC so would like for the little ones to be busy doing something different.

Hi sharon
Its great too hear your on board too looking forward to meeting you all
I registered the kids in the clubs on the Wonder...i did this on Disney cruise line website if you have your booking number you should be able to do this.
Or it may be easier as you have so many children with you to do this on board.
While on castaway cay i think the childrens club do things with the children so you may be able to work it that you have some time to yourself :teeth:
Look forward to meeting you on the wonder sharon

It will be a pleasure to meet you onboard the Wonder. This is the first time my family has ever managed to get together. My two youngest grandchildren will not be going - ages 1 and 1.5. I just can't wait to see them all. I have only seen two of my grandchildren once in their lifetime because they live in Texas and I live in Oklahoma. (None of us travel much at all.)
It sounds like your grandchildren (ages) are pretty spread out. Hopefully, I will only have one or two more grandchildren to come. That is if my son can keep his pants zipped!

Hi Marv, Connie, Kimmielee and everyone else :wave2:
Sorry, I haven't posted in ages, things have been really busy at work.
I would love to join you all on the first day, it will be my DH and I plus our three DDs (ages 9,6 and 3)
I can't believe it is finally coming nearer, we are travelling out to Orlando on Apr 9th and will have 2 weeks at the Poly, a Villa and the Hard Rock Hotel before the Cruise so I will definitely be packing light.
Looking forward to meeting all of you, it would be great if some of the kids could get to know each other on the first day as it might make going to the clubs a bit more fun!

:bounce: I am so glad to hear of someone else who will have children my grandchildren's ages. (I'm not really old, I just started young.) My grandchildren are ages 3, 5, 9 and 9. Actually there's two more but are both less than a year old so they will not be cruising with us.
I would so love to meet you all the first day. Yes, I too think it would be very nice if our kids could meet and make friends. Have you all been on a cruise before? This is our first cruise ever.
Other than my children and grandchildren, most of the rest of my family is going. There are 25 of us in all. My two sisters have been on a cruise before but I don't think any of my other family members have.
It sounds like you all will have a nice, long vacation. We are just doing the cruise. This will be the first time a lot of the younger children (under age 18) have ever met each other. We all live in different states - Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.
I too can't believe the date is finally getting here. I am so possessed with this trip. I spend every moment of my free time on the computer reading what others write about the cruise.
How will we recognize you? I don't think my bunch will be too hard to spot. My two son-in-laws are BIG boys - each one weighs about 300 pounds. One is Mexican and one is Indian so they are both dark skinned. (Gosh I wish I had their skin color. I'm very white but am going to a tanning salon for a month before the cruise so I'm not quite so white.) My daughters are both very white too. One is blonde and the other is brunette. The brunette is 30 years old and only 4'7" tall. I am 5'0" and weigh 100 pounds. My son is also slender like me.
As I have things planned now, I will be wearing a bright orange tee shirt and blue jeans. I bought the bright orange t-shirt because one of my son-in-laws is an Oklahoma State University fan and their colors are orange and black. I'm hoping my children will notice the bright orange t-shirt when we meet. I don't know if we will meet up in Florida or else in Houston where our planes have a layover. We have not received our flight schedules yet. Have you received yours?
My next task is to make our reservations for the excursions we want to participate in. All of my grandchildren and two daughters will be particpating in the Dolphin Excursion. One of my daughters may do the Dolphin Swim instead. I (and I think maybe my son) are going to parasail. I have always wanted to do that. My two son-in-laws are having trouble finding some excursion to participate in. One of them is afraid of heights and the other is afraid of heights and water - so that doesn't leave many excursions to pick from. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi everyone!! It IS GETTING CLOSE!!!
DS(6) and I are expanding our trip a bit. We live in Michigan and my Dad lives in Kentucky. He turned 80 last year and I haven't seen him since July of '05.
I'm a bit worried based on recent phone conversations so we are leaving on April 14th, driving there, spending Easter weekend with my Dad and his wife then on the 17th returning to Michigan - but only as far as the airport!
Staying in a hotel the night before we leave since our flight leaves at 7:00 a.m. We will be in DisneyWorld by 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, the 18th! I can't wait!! :Pinkbounc
Hey, does anyone want Palo reservations for Monday, the 24th at 6:30 p.m.? I'm going to cancel them and just do the brunch, but would love to coordinate with one of you vs. letting it go to just anyone! Let me know, plenty of time to cancel left! See you all... or as my Dad says "y'all" soon!

Thanks for the info about meeting at the Mickey Pool at 3:00 p.m. I will be there. I imagine my grandchildren will be in the pool.
Here is a basic idea of what we look like. I will only describe my 10 immediate family members because I have never seen some of my great-nieces and great-nephews who are going.
I have two son-in-laws who are big guys. They are both over 300 pounds and are dark skinned (one is Indian and one is Mexican). Their wives are nothing out of the ordinary - one has long, kinky long blonde hair and the other has medium long brown hair and is 4'7" (she looks like a kid - she isn't much bigger than her daughter - she is 30 and her daughter is 9). My grandkids look like all the rest of the kids in this world. My son and I are both slender. I am 5'0" tall and have long brown hair.
Have you been in touch with anyone else who is gong - besides Kimmielee? I connected once with Kimmie where we introduced ourselves online to each other.
We'll see you at the pool at 3:00 p.m. Gosh, I just can't wait! (I'm far worse than any kid would be when it comes to waiting.)

Ok, Noah is 6 but looks like he's 8 pirate: . He's tall and chunky and looks just like his momma! He comes up to my chest and I'm only 5'5"!!
Mommy is 44, definately wishes for the body of my youth :p ....and I have big brown eyes and long brown hair... which, most likely will be up if it's warm on the day we leave!
I have NO idea what either of us will be wearing yet... but as it gets closer, I'll post!
Do we want to exchange post cards from our respective towns? That would be awesome for Noah to take back to his Kindergarten class to show how many different people he met! :thumbsup2

I went on a cruise last year in March - not DCL and Noah stayed behind with family. My girlfriend - no... not THAT kind of "girlfriend" - not sure why I felt the need to explain that... but anyway... we chatted on cruisecritic.com with a bunch of friendly folks from all over.
One of them, a single guy that was a firefighter from Boston :firefight was delightfully funny and charming and... well, you get the idea. My friend and I were practically drooling over the possibilities and what he looked like, etc... (Kimmie wasn't dating her current beau then...)
We were all at our "meeting place" except for him. Every hunky guy that walked by, we'd ask... "Are you Frank?"... and the guy would laugh and say "No".
Then we thought to ask all the not so hunky guys... and they laughed too... it really was a game.
Later, we bumped into him in the piano bar where all the cruise critic buddies were sitting and he was NOTHING like we pictured, but still as adorable and funny... just about 5'3"!!!
Moral of the story... dangerous to have preconceived notions about what others look like because we never live up to it!!! :rotfl:
So, picture me as the woman who would NEVER dare to wear a bikini but is comfortable in her body anyway!! :cloud9:

Since Noah is 6, he'll be in the same club as your 5 year old GC!!
We aren't doing much on the excursion side... we have 8 days at WDW (5 before and 3 after) and as much as I'd LOVE to do the dolphins I'm afraid it would freak him out and we'd waste some big $$$$! :guilty:
I did reserve the water stuff, floats, etc on CC and do plan on putting Noah in the club there for a short while during the hottest part of the day so I can get a massage! :cloud9:
Nassau - if it were another time of year and not Spring Break for so many schools, I would have rented a day room at Atlantis or Comfort Suites but I've heard when it's busy the lines for the slides could be up to an hour wait. No way for the little guy. :sad2:
Funny you say that your SIL's are afraid of heights. My boyfriend is 6'10" and he is scared to death of high places! How does THAT happen??? :lmao:
I think it's awesome how your family is getting together. My Dad lives in KY and I have two brothers that are still alive... and one of them won't come down there for just a long weekend during Easter and it's only an 8 hour drive! I'd love to plan a reunion... kudos for you for pulling it off!
We are flying in on the 18th in the early a.m. and not leaving until the morning of the 30th. It's our longest vacation ever... hopefully the best too! :woohoo:

I have been reading disboards.com for about a month now and have become so much more educated about the cruise than I was before. (I knew NOTHING before reading disboards.com.) It has helped me tremendously.
Only recently have I met up (online) with Kimmie and now you. I'm happy to have found someone to talk to about the cruise. All my grandchildren live in Texas and I live in Oklahoma so I have no one here to share the excitement with.
This will truly be exciting for me my kids and grandkids as none of them have been anywhere in their lifetime. (I think one of my granddaughters went to WDW once.) Most of my immediate family of 10 people have not even flown before. I'm worried about seasickness for them all (and who knows, maybe me too). I bought Dramamine and Bonnie. Do you know if a person needs to take them routinely (like once each day) or does a person just take one of the pills when they feel seasick? Both of my son-in-laws are afraid of water and one of them is afraid to fly too. This is quite a challenge for both of them and I admire them for going despite their fears.

I truly understand what you mean by your 6 yo looking like he's 8. I did a semester of student teaching in the elementary school and found a whole lot of the students to be bigger than I am. I am only 5'0" and weigh 100 pounds so it doesn't take much to be bigger than I. Still, the elementary school kids are big nowadays. After that semester, I decided not to teach in elementary school because the students were bigger than I and I had a hard time keeping them under control. I think my petite-ness made them think I was a friend, not a teacher. The teachers at the school frequently told me to "get in line with the other students." Then they quickly apologized and said they thought I was a student.
Anyway, I thought I would let you know that I plan on wearing a bright orange t-shirt and blue jeans. I hope my orange t-shirt helps my children and grandchildren to spot me in the crowd at the airport.

:thumbsup2

Hey jordan's cool, are you cruising on the Wonder April 23-27, 2006? My famiy of 25 and I are going on that cruise. I am from Oklahoma, my kids are from Texas, one of my sisters (and her kids/grandkids) lives in Kansas and the other lives in Virginia (with her two daughters).
hey guy's is anyone else from south carolina coming along this trip? :rolleyes1 :earsgirl: ::MickeyMo
Hi
I myself am fearful af flying...its the taking off for me, i end up in tears...but once ime up ime okish
We take Sealegs for sea sickness and we take one a day...well its just DH and DD tht takes them. We ahve been on ferrys and ships that take us too France and Ireland and there a lot smaller than the Wonder...i have been told that sea sickness is not such a big problem on the wonder as its so big. Ishall take them anyway...just to be on the safe side.
Well not long now and were all here so you can share your excitment with us all.
Have you booked any excursions yet? Ime so looking forward to this trip... were in a villa for 20 days before the cruise...only trouble is ill have to pack againwhen over there for the cruise..but we have a washing machine so this will make it easiere and ill try to this over the 20 days so ime not left with the packing to do in a day.
what kind of clothes have you got for the restaurants at night??..We have got are cruise wear over here and are taking this with us...Just Trousers, shirts, dressy blouses and black pants.. I think its nice to dress up a bit in the restaurants..i know its not required to wareformal dress but its nice to get dressed up will make the meal a bit more special. I have packed one pair of small healed shoes as ime not good on high heals if the ship rocks a little ill end up flat on my back :rotfl2:
Have a good day

I have not heard of Sealegs (for sea sickness) but I am new to all the sea sick stuff. I think I will call my doctor to get the patch, and I think I'll insist that my two big son-in-laws take the pills each day. I wonder if they might need to take more than one pill because they are both really big guys (over 300 pounds each, size 3X). What do you think? I will not worry about the kids. I talked online with my daughter in Texas and she does not think she will get sea sick. I haven't talked about it with my daughter in Oklahoma yet.
I just canot wait to meet you!
Within the next week, I plan to make reservations for my two daughters (ages 30 and 24) and all my grandchildren (ages 3, 5, 9 and 9) to participate in the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau - Blue Lagoon. One of my daughters may upgrade to do the Doplphin Swim once we get there. How old is your daughter? Would she like to join my children? (I also have two of nieces (ages about 10 and 12, I think) who have reservations for the Dolphin Encounter, but they want to do the Dolphin Swim. If my nieces can upgrade to the Swim, then my daughter will too.
I plan on parasailing in Nassau. I do not know if anyone in my family will be joining me - maybe my son will. I do not know what my two son-in-laws plan to do for the 'special excrusion.'
It sounds like you will have a lot of packing and repacking to do. We are just doing the cruise. The only way we are affording to take the cruise is because my mother passed away about a year ago and we are using our inheritance money to pay for everyone to do.
I plan on wearing a black pair of jeans to dinner each night. I will probably take a couple of fairly nice shirts to wear with them. I am not too keen on dressing up just for dinner (but I agree that it is nice to dress up every once in a while). I am more of a layed back (outdoor camping) kind of person. Putting my black jeans on is dressing up for me. My Oklahoma daughter and her husband want to do to Palo's one night but they do not have a suit or dressy dress. They do not want to have to pay for nice clothes that they may only wear once in their lifetime. Trust me, I mean we are really layed back kind of people and we don't do nice things like this cruise. That's one reason this is a real treat for all of us.
I will probably wear my white flip-flop sandals with my jeans. You said you might end up flat on your back if you wore heels and the ship rocks - well, if I put in a pair of heels, the ship wouldn't have to rock for me to fall flat on my face. I always wear flat shoes - like tennis shoes.
I must go work on the pictures for the front of the scrapbooks I am making for my grandchildren. This is a lot of fun preparing for the trip. I'm so excited!

Were going to look around the port at Nassau and visit the pirate museum and then back to the ship to make the most of the money we have spent on the cruise.
I bet your mother would be really happy that you are spending the money she gave you to have a cruise with all your family...what brilliant memorys you will all have especially as this is a holiday of a life time for you all.
This will be the same for us as living in the UK we proberly wont do this again so every minute will count...feel really blessed that we are all going.
Agree about the clothes..waste of money if you never have to wear them again...ime glad its not formal as i dont do long dresses and that really would be a waste of money for us as i would never wear a gown here in the UK
Your brave to do parasailing ime not sure wether i could cope with the height...hope you have fun

Hey everyone
I got seasick on our last cruise.Higher waves because of a thunderstorm passing through the day before.Thank God for "Bonine",got them a day before we left at Goodings Supermarket.Didn´t make me sleepy and worked well.
And Sharon,I´m not a big fan of dress-up,so I´ll go with a pair of black trouser and some tops, too.on the 4-night,there is no real formal night like on the 7-night cruises. So,I guess we´re fine.
Take care

Hi Marv
I got an email from our DU travel agent to say that Disney are sending our tickets ove the next few days by overnight courier so hopefully we will get them before we leave (Sat 8th), if not apparently I can pick them up at the port but I have already registered online too.
Have a wonderful 3 weeks before the cruise, I am looking forward to meeting everyone, whereabouts are we meeting again?? I am worried that I will be so excited about being on board that I will forget...
Hope everyone else is enjoying the planning/packing etc, we are in the same boat as you Marv as we have 2.5 weeks before the cruise, we are staying a few days at the Poly, a week in a villa and the two nights before the cruise we are staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. The best thing is, our DDs don't even know we are going on holiday yet! We are going to suprise them on the day we leave for Gatwick, then we are going to tell them we are staying 2 weeks and on the day of the cruise pretend to drive to the airport but in reality will drive to Port Canaveral and suprise them by telling them we are going on the Wonder...hopefully they will be thrilled.
I too am worried about sea sickness and have today bought some Stugeron 15 which I have been recommended.
Look forward to meeting you all soon if I don't have time to post again..

Hi Nixieh

Your kids will be so excited whet a lovely suprise for them..in away its better they dont know.. if their any thing like my kids they would have been driving you up th wall by now.
My eldest was singing in bed last night and all three of them were having a giggle with each other from their rooms. When i went too sort them out my eldest...was saying "i cant help it ime so excited"....they really are over excited.
Ill be glad when Sunday is here and we leave.. they may calm down abit.
Nixieh have a safe journey and a brilliant time in WDW before the cruise....and well see you on board.

:confused3
Are you as exited as I am? I just can't wait. At least I have lots of stuff to do before then so maybe the 3 weeks until we leave is good. We are only doing the cruise.
What excursions are your family members doing? About half of my immediate family want to do the Dolphin excursion but it's full. I was told to wait and go to Guest Services as soon as we get onboard.
Do you know how to reserve Atlantis? Two of my kids want to swim at the pools and slides they saw online (at Atantis). Do I need to reserve them a room at Atlantis so they can use all the Atlantis facilities? (I'm paying for everything for my family.) If so, how do I go about doing that? Do I wait until we get there? Or is it too late? I would appreciate any advice you can give me on the Atlantis thing.
Oh my goodness, I just read where you are asking about Atlantis too. Please let me know what you find out. (This disboards.com site kind of confuses me. I do the best with it that I can.)

Look forward to hearing from you.

Can you tell me how to go about doing whatever I have to do so that two of my grown children can use the facilities (slides mostly) at Atlantis?
Hi Pepsiontherocks
Here is the Atlantis website http://www.atlantis.com/flash.aspx
I have come across posts on this and it appears if you want toi use the slides you would have to book a room at the hotel...Ime sorry that i cant give you any more info on it.
If i was in your shoes and wanted to do this i would reserve a room through the Hotel reservations on the web site for the day you are at Nassau.
Ime not sure but i think you should be able to get transport at Nassau Port too the Atlantis Hotel.
I hope this helps

Hi there!! Sorry, it's been a very busy week! To use the slides/pools at Atlantis you have to book a room. I've read that the Comfort Suites is much cheaper and is across the street. That one was more like $225 with all the taxes, etc... which the room rate was only $175 or so. I'll do a search for Atlantis and find more information for you. Stay tuned.
I also have read that you can't book an Atlantis room in advance the way you can the Comfort Suites - that Atlantis offers "day rooms" for a reduced rate if they are not at full capacity. Being Spring Break and all, not sure if they will have any!!
Edited to add: I found a post that had a code to save on the Comfort Suites:
Have you looked into Comfort Suites across the street, it has all uses of the Atlantis resort and you can reserve it now.
check this link for a 20% savings!

You said "negotiate the rate in advance" - how do I do that? Do you know what a good rate would be? I have no earthly idea about this stuff. Have taken a taxi once in my 47 years of life. It seems like I read somewhere that the taxi will cost about $4 per person - maybe I was reading about taxis at another place so this price doesn't apply to Nassau taxis - I get so confused since I've read so much stuff.

I think you just ask,how much it would be,then decide.
It might be a good idea to go to Guest services on the first day and ask them for advice, they are so helpful.I did that the last time about renting a car at St.Maarten and they gave me lots of good tips.
@Nixieh:thanks for asking about the luggage tags,I was wondering the same thing.

The taxi rate is 5 dollars per person, for the trip from the port in nassau to the comfort suites or Atlantis resort, confirm this rate upfront.the driver may also ask you to pay the bridge toll- $1. the taxis are vans that they will try to fill with people before they will leave.
if you don't want to wait, offer upfront to pay a little more to get there without waiting. that is what i did last time.

Thank you for the advice about the Nassau taxi.
We have not received our cruise documents yet. I am so totally disgusted with our TA - have had lots of trouble getting her to do stuff. (My TA is in another state than I am in - my sister in Kansas got the travel agent to book the cruise for all of us from 4 different states.) Starting Monday, I will call my TA every day and push for her to mail us our documents. That's what Disney told me to do when I called and expressed my trouble with my TA.

I wish we would receive our documents. I'm so worried about our TA holding on to the documents for days before she sends them on to us. Maybe I'm being too anxious. I had to force and threaten our TA to correct the spelling on one of our names - TA said it would not matter but Disney said it has to match the birth certificate exactly or else he will not be allowed to board the ship. Less than a week ago, called Disney had got the spelling correct. I don't know if this will delay us getting our documents or not.
We have 25 family members going on this cruise. Nine of them are my kids and grandkids. My two son-in-laws are both really big guys - both over 300 pounds and scared to death of water. They are dark skinned as one is Native American Indian and the other is Hispanic. I am a short, petite female with long, straight brown hair. We will all be wearing either our Disney Family Reunion t-shirts (made by Disney - I think they are white) or else our bathing suits. We are from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Virginia in the USA.
Where are you from and how will I recognize you?
I'll see you at the Mickey Pool at 3:00 p.m.

Send me a brief description of how I will spot you onboard the Wonder. My family consists of 25 people in call - 10 of which are my immediate family members (kids and grandkids). Here's how to spot us, I have two really big dark skinned (Native American Indiand and Hispanic) son-in-laws - both over 300 pounds. I am 5 foot tall, petite and long straight brown hair (down to the middle of my back) If we are not in our bathing suits by the time we meet at the Disney Pool at 3:00 p.m., then we will still ahve on our white Disney Family Reunion t-shirts.

This will be mine and Dh's first Disney cruise, which we can't wait for. My Dh and I are going with 3 other families that I went to High school with, we are all turning "40" this year!!! Can't wait to get to Florida. we are staying at the Radisson the night before. Heard it was close to the port.
We got our cruise documents about a week ago. Heard there was formal night, are they very formal on Disney? I've been on other cruises and it can vary how dressed up some people can get. Thanks See you all soon...
Maria
Welcome Maria!!! What a fun idea for a cruise!! Just the adults or kids too? If so, how old are the kids in your group? My DS is 6 and can't wait to meet new friends. And you know... they say "40" is the new "30" :woohoo:
Formal is as formal as you want it to be. You will see everything, from what I understand... suits to tuxes for the gents to pants, pant suits, dresses, cocktail dresses to formal full length gowns for the ladies. It's what YOU want to make it.
Enjoy your trip and come meet us all at the bar by the Goofy pool at 3:00!

Naw, I couldn't tell how excited you are - think you should have added a few more yay-yays, cheers, woohoos and bounces (ha, ha). It's nice to know someone else is as excited as I am.
Called my TA today. She said she received 4 of our 10 sets of documents but no airline tickets in the ones she has received. She said she was going to call Disney to ask them, then call me right back - she never called back. I tell you, I've had it with that TA. I'll be so glad when I don't have to deal with her any longer, but sad because that will mean the fun is all over - but at least we will have the memories. I have bought 18 disposable cameras (remember there are 10 of us), will have 3 digital cameras and 2 (maybe 3) cam corders. Do you think we have enough?

We will definitely look for you. I'm about 5'4 with very dark hair past my shoulders and my hubby is bald but my hubby and I are Donnie and Maria (how funny huh?) so you might just over hear us. We don't have any children but the our friends do, there will be 11 of us total. Which pool is everyone meeting at 3pm? I can't tell you how excited we are..
See you soon...

We are meeting at the Mickey Pool at 3:00 p.m. the day we board the ship.
Our t-shirts that we got with the Disney Family Reunion Package that I bought arrived today. They are not what I expected. They are gray, not white like I expected - which is fine with me. They have a small Disney emblem on the front left chest area of the shirt. They also have "STRICKLAND" write across the back in black letters (like a football jersey). So find someone with "STRICKLAND" written on the back of their shirt and you will have found one of us. :grouphug:
What a funny plan on names. I just can't wait to meet you and your hubby. Just think, I finally get to meet a couple of celbrities - Donnie and Maria! :yay:
My TA called today and said she received and is mailing us our cruise documents today. I can't wait to get them. I bet I am more excited about this cruise than you are. (I have made 149 door signs! Do you think I overdid it? Some I am not taking with me as I like other better.) I can't think about anything else other than this cruise. At work, which I'm not getting much done at because the only thing on my mind is this cruise, everyone and I mean EVERYONE knows I am going on this cruise - even the people who work on the floors above and below me, the guards at the door, the janitors, the maintenance men, the district attorneys, and the snack bar attendants. I am constantly being asked, "how many more days" by people I meet as I walk down the halls at work.
Have you met anyone else who is cruising with us? I just can't wait for the 23rd! :cheer2:

I hope you have a nice visit with your dad. Drive carefully and I'll see you at the Mickey Pool at 3:00 p.m. Oh, we got our Disney Family Reunion T-shirts - they are not what I expected. You can find me if you see one of our t-shirts. They are gray with the name "STRICKLAND" printed on the back in black letters (like the name on the back of a football jersey). The trouble is, I have long hair and my hair covers up the name. I'll have my hair pulled back in a pony tail to expose as much of the name as I can. The other 9 members of my immediate family will also have the same t-shirt on. So if you see someone with the name "STRICKLAND" written on the back, ask them where I am and they will be able to tell you.
I am so excited - I just can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad you emailed me. I want to thank you for taking my family's picture (on the stairs of Deck 7) with all our cameras.
I am surprised I didn't recognize you (maybe subconsciously that's why I chose you from the hallway to ask to take my family's picture). Guess I didn't recognize you without a drink in your hand :)
Yes, it was perfect weather the entire time and it gave us firstimers a feel of what the ship feels like when the winds pick up.
I learned one thing for sure this cruise -- don't take a bunch of family members on a cruise. I was busy trying to spend time with each of my relatives (we are all from different states and some of us had never met the nieces three youngest children) that I forgot to do the things I had planned on doing. Oh well, there's always next time.
I wish I would have taken the time to get to know you better. If you ever need reference for your 'picture taking abilities', you are welcome to give them my name. Thanks again.

Hi everyone
So sorry not to have made the meet at the Goofy Pool, we got on the ship and it was so exciting we forgot all about it :Pinkbounc . Although I was lucky enough to meet Marv in the restrooms just before disembarking for the day at Nassau (Hi Marv :wave2:)
The cruise was fabulous wasn't it, the weather was great and I couldn't believe how friendly all the staff were.
Some of my highlights were: The Sailaway Party (loved the ships horn)
Golden Mickeys
Disney Dreams
Kids clubs were great and the "graduation" at
the end brought a tear to my eye.
Pirate Party (even though we were the only
people we saw who were dressed up!)
The food and the restaurants (plus of course
the servers) were wonderful.
The only thing I didn't really enjoy was: Hercules
And of course getting off the ship!
Hope you all had a fabulous time, I would love to hear about everyone elses best bits. Sadly I don't think we will be able to do another cruise for a few years (maybe for my 40th in 3 years time) so I have to squeeze every last drop out of this one to keep me going for a while!
It has been great meeting you all...

Hi Nixieh
What a place to meet....in the rest rooms :rotfl2: ime pleased i met you though.
Ime glad you all had a brilliant time..we did too. We looked into the med cruise while on board but wont be doing that as it worked out to be $10,000 for all of us.
I nearly forgot the meeting...i totally understand how you could have forgot there was just so much going on when we boarded and so much information to take in.
The wonder was an amazing ship it was like being in a dream...that came true :cloud9: My children apsolutley enjoyed every minute.
We did Atlantis at Nassau and shopping of course. Castaway cay was just paradise and we all did the bannana boat ride that was more fun than i thought it would be.
hope too speak with you again

I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet everyone I had met on disboards.com. By the time we arrived and found our rooms, it was time for the drill. I guess our plane arrived late.
I hear you enjoyed the Banana Boat ride. I too went on the ride but did not find it near as exciting as I had read others write. I had no trouble staying on the boat - held on loosely with one hand and carried on conversations with the people around me. I was disappointed in it - but everything else was a blast.
Hi pepsi
Ime sorry you didn't enjoy the bannana boat....ime afraid we had a boat full of adrenalin junkies (husband included)as we were all telling the driver to go faster..so he did.
What did your family look like as i was trying to look out for you and often said to my husband i wonder if that was you.
Were you all sat at the goofy pool eating and dancing with 2 men, children and i think there was 3 women????
I hope you all had a brilliant time

Hi everybody.
Sadly we are back from a wonderful cruise and 9 more fabulous days in WDW.
Everything was fantastic and we can consider ourselves very lucky with our cruise. The following week two friends of mine went and it was much colder and Sea more rough.
It was great to meet everyone and I wish you all a wonderful future and more great trips to Disney.
take care
