We have two plum trees, but these plums are not the ones that you see sold in the store. They are smaller crunchier plums that people pickle in a sweet mixture for a while in jars then eat.

is amazing! It has just finished blooming or I would go take a pic and post. I should go down anyway to see if there are any volunteers! It is a very old tree so probably the variety below.
We are about to lose a pink dogwood and I may replace it with a purple flowering plum.

I have two in my front yard that we planted 6 yrs ago and I just love the purple foliage and flowers in Spring. The only downside is that the Japanese Beetles attack the leaves, so you have to spray and keep Japanese Beetle traps within close distance of trees around June-August. We have found that the Japanese Beetles attack any shrub/tree with purple foliage.
If you don't have any Japanese Beetles than you will be fine and if you do, just make a note if they start nibbling the leaves.

After looking at Mal's pictures, I think I had gotten confussed on what you were asking. Are you asking if anyone has a sakuara tree-aka cherry blossom tree? Or are you asking of a different variety?
Went to Lowe's and got a Newport Plum!!
I love the look of it!!
Japanese Beetles?? :confused3
Guess it will give us something to do during the day..
Go beetle picking...
We had a ball last year catching cicadas...

We have a big plum in the front yard. Beautiful blossoms in spring. Have a pic somewhere. It was knocked over and out of the ground during a storm. They may be shallow rooted or it was never planted deep enough. It's fine now. :flower: Haven't had problems with beetles.
Now that I've said it uh oh better watch out :earboy2:
