Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for a while now & just love this board. Everyone seems so nice and encouraging & I've decided that I need a place to go to be accountable for my weight loss goals.

I am a 26 year old SAHM to DD Caroline who is 1 year old. I have been married for almost 5 years to my wonderful DH. We celebrated our honeymoon at WDW and will be there during our 5 year anniversary in May for our daughter's first ever visit.

I would like to lose about 20 pounds by the end of June. I try to stick to a low-carb/low-fat plan, but I am not a fanatic. I am a sucker for ice cream and I do indulge occasionally. I try to exercise on my treadmill 4 times per week, usually doing between 2 and 3 miles plus free weights for upper body strength. Now that the weather is nicer, we do lots of walks and bike rides as a family as well. I probably won't count those in my exercise goal though because my treadmill workouts are more intense. I'll just consider them extra. I plan to use this journal to keep track of my progress with my exercise as well.

I will probably not post daily, probably more like every other day, but I will post my weight on Fridays.

Starting weight: 153
Goal weight: 130-135
Eating plan: Low-carb/Low-fat.....lots of fresh fruits, veggies, fish & chicken
Water Goal: 120 ounces per day....I'm a water fanatic!
Exercise Goal: 12 miles per week on the treadmill plus free weights

Thanks for reading.....come visit anytime!

Thanks Alysa. Well, so far, so good. I've stayed on track food-wise and have done well with the exercise. I actually enjoy using my treadmill. I don't go at an insane pace and I have the TV on while I'm on it, so it's not too bad. Also, I cover up the time and mile display so I'm not just watching the minutes tick by...really helps.

Mon: 2 miles, 30 minutes
Tue: 3 miles, 45 minutes

Good luck to everyone else as we try to be healthy!

I am so frustrated. All this week I have been so diligent with my diet and exercise and the scale has not moved even a pound. I'm still stuck at 153. It's that TOM, so maybe that is part of the problem. This may be way too much information for some of you, but this is my first TOM in almost 2 years due to pregnancy and nursing. Hopefully, I'm just bloated.... :rotfl:

The weird thing is I was surprised to see that I hadn't lost any weight. I mean I really feel thinner.....I guess it's all in my head since I've been exercising and eating good. Oh well, I will continue to soldier on!

Exercise:
Wed: 3 miles, 50 minutes (took it a little slower due to major sinus headache)
Thurs: 3 miles, 45 minutes

Well, please send me some pixie dust for the weekend. It is usually my downfall. Too many social situations revolving around food! I will be good, I will be good, I will be good, I will be good! I think this will be my new mantra.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Don't get discouraged - you're doing great!
That is my greatest challenge when I work so hard and nothing happens. Just keep on trying - you will be amazed in a couple of days when someone comments that you look great or your favourite jeans get a little loose!

Welcome to WISH!!!

Try not to worry about the scale too much--TOM can wreak havoc for at least a week or two!

Stay focused on the positive changes you're feeling and hang in there!

Thank you for stopping by my journal and WELCOME to the WISH journals!

Make sure you take measurements. Sometimes you can lose inches but not weight because you are building muscle

I too love my water. Maybe I should up from 90oz to 120, 'cause your 153 is sure looking appealing to me! :rotfl2:

Have a great day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Thanks everyone! It's so nice to have support from people who totally understand what I'm going through! I'm doing great so far today. My daughter is at Grandma's so I'm heading out for a bike ride all by myself to enjoy our gorgeous weather.

I am so relieved. The scale has budged! I'm down to 151 this morning & I'll admit, I cheated a couple times over the weekend. Like I said, I'm a sucker for ice cream.

I got in more than my 12 miles last week (to me the "exercise week" goes Monday - Sunday), but I need to get moving today to start this week off right.

I'll be back through the week with updates & my "official" weigh-in on Friday.

Today was not my best day. Isn't it funny how you get into a "groove"? I did so great last week. And it's not like I've fallen completely off the wagon this week, I'm just not being as diligent. So....I'm posting to recommit to start again tomorrow. I don't typically journal my food, but I'm going to write down my plan for tomorrow so that I'll be more likely to stick with it!

Breakfast: Fresh strawberries
Lunch: Chicken Taco Soup (I keep this in my fridge a lot for easy, healthy lunches)
Dinner: Grilled fish w/ steamed veggies and salad
Snack: LF Popcorn or apple

I have a meeting tomorrow morning at church and there is always pastry there & I am such a sweets-at-breakfast kind of person....I love them. So I am writing here that I WILL NOT eat any sweets at the meeting. If there is fruit available, fine. I can have some of that, but I WILL NOT, WILL NOT, WILL NOT be eating any sweets. They are always so hard to pass up, but I feel so good about myself when I do.

I'll let you all know tomorrow when I come victorious!!!!

I also need to get on the ball with the exercise. I did 2 miles on Monday, but didn't get a chance today. So tomorrow, I plan to do 4 miles on the treadmill which should put me back on track to reach my 12 miles goal for the week.

Wish me luck and :wizard: !

Hope you won the pastry wars! I have the same problem. I grew up thinking it was normal to eat cookies, cake, pie for breakfast and truly didn't know breakfast cereal existed until 8th grade Home ec. SCARY!!!

Sounds like you're doing awesome.

Yea for me! None of the pastry even really looked good to me this morning.....none of my favorites were there, so they were pretty easy to pass up! So far I am on plan for the day & I'm going to go exercise while DD is napping.

Thanks for all the :wizard: !!!!!

And thanks DisneyMomOfThree for the ice cream tip. I will definately be checking that out next time I'm at the market!

Yes, it does feel good! I feel even better because I got my 4 miles in yesterday. No laundry got done, but I did get my exercise :) . I did 3 miles (44 minutes) in the afternoon while DD was napping & after dinner I went and did the last mile in 12 minutes, so I feel like I really got a good workout.

Goals for today:
1. Same (basically) eating plan as yesterday
2. 3 miles on the treadmill

Have a great day everybody!

Well, it's weigh-in time. I'm down to 150, only a pound, but it's better than nothing! Haven't had a chance to exercise yet today, but I will this evening. And thanks Perlieq for the comment about the laundry :goodvibes It's hard for me to let things go around the house, but I've just decided that the exercise is just as important as everything else!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Another week begins! I got my 12 miles in last week.....I had to do 4 yesterday to make it!! I wasn't on the treadmill over the weekend because we were outside doing yardwork, yardwork, yardwork. But, I guess I got some exercise doing that too.

I didn't do very well with my water Sat. and Sun. and I can really tell today, so I'm going to really focus on drinking LOTS today.

Just got off the treadmill & did my 3 miles for today. I feel good about that, but today was terrible food-wise. Too much junk in the house leftover from company. I will do better tomorrow.....no sweets!!!! I'm vowing it here in front of everyone & I will report tomorrow on how I did!

Thanks Lesli! I just hate the fact that once one bad thing goes in my mouth, my whole day falls apart food-wise. What kind of backward thinking is that? But, so far today has been great & I'm determined to keep it that way!

Don't let one bad food day start you down the slippery slope. You CAN do this. One day at a time and MOVE ON!!

This is very hard to do, believe me, I know, but just keep starting over EVERY day!

Hang in there!

Clare
04-28-2005, 11:02 AM
Well, yesterday was a good day all around. I stayed away from junk food & I did 3 miles on the treadmill in 39 minutes. I won't always go that fast, but it felt really good! I had fresh strawberries and a handful of almonds for breakfast (a big handful :sad2: ) today. They are the Diamond brand and soooo good. I don't know what they do differently, but I'm not even a nut person & i LOVE them. Anyway I ate breakfast late, so I'll probably have a light lunch like popcorn and fruit. For dinner tonight I'm making low-fat chicken/corn/blackbean quesadilla, strawberries and salad.

The scale is really moving slowly, but I'm hoping for another pound gone tomorrow.

I may not have a chance to post tomorrow because my husband and I are going to Chicago for the weekend. My parents are picking up DD in the morning & we're taking the train in until Sunday. Yes, that's 2 nights for just the two of us. We'll miss DD like crazy, but we are very excited. If anyone knows Chicago and has any good restaurant suggestions, let me know. We have most of our activities planned, but I'm open to suggestions for those too!

I love going to Chicago! Just noticed you were from IL. Where are you located? I am over on the Mississippi just northeast of Moline/Davenport. Do you have a place to stay yet? I love staying at the Homewood Suites. They are close to the downtown, are very well updated, have a kitchen area and serve the most excellent "continental" breakfast, which is included with your room rate. I was there a few years ago and thought, juice and a muffin...........no...........a huge buffet of fruits, juice, breakfast cereals, eggs, mini belgian waffles, bread, etc.

One of my favorite restaurants is Tutto Orsi located at 324 S. Racine, just a block off UIC campus. It's not much on the outside, but it is a great little Italian restaurant with wonderful atmosphere on the inside. I would say at least a dressy casual during lunch and maybe a little more for dinner. Excellent food! Didn't try dessert, but it looked very sinful.

Good luck on another lb. down! Go see Pearlieq, she lives near Chicago and probably knows lots of great restaurants. Have a good trip and enjoy time with your DH! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Have fun in Chicago, Clare!! My husband and I are originally from there and we love it!! Mine & my husband's favorite restaurant is Frontera Grill (owned by chef Rick Bayless)...it's Mexican food and is SO good. He also owns the restaurant next door to it called Topolobampo which is also Mexican food...but more gourmet style. They use all fresh ingredients grown locally on farms (Chef Bayless will not even buy it from "gourmet grocers") so the food winds up being healthier because you know the ingredients are fresh fresh fresh. Both restaurants are downtown. What area will you be in? That helps tremendously in knowing what to recommend. Chicago is a huge city and if you're only going to be in a certain area, I don't wanna recommend something on the other side of the city.

Hi Clare...welcome (a little late). Sounds like you're doing absolutely FABOO!

Hi everyone! We got back last night from a fabulous trip!! I didn't get a chance to even check back here so didn't get to use everyone's suggestions, but I wrote them down so we can use them next time we go! I wish I would have known about Rick Bayless' restaurants.....I love him!

We stayed at the Burnham Hotel in the theatre district because we had tickets for Wicked on Friday night. Fabulous hotel! We went to the Field museum, Art Institute, Millenium Park, shopping, etc. We just happened to be walking by Grant Park during the ceremony to turn on Buckingham Fountain so we heard the mayor speak and got to see the fountain go! They were filming a Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock movie about a block from our hotel. We got to see Sandra Bullock from a distance & watched them do a few takes. It was very interesting! It was just a great trip all around.

The only problem (and you knew this was coming..........) was we ate way too well!!! I had consiously decided before we went to enjoy myself and we really did. We had some fabuous food! I didn't go crazy & of course we did a ton of walking, but I still think I'm probably up a couple pounds. I told myself it's not like I ate a bag of potato chips......these were high-quality calories & worth every bite!! Haven't weighed in yet.....I'm scared! But, I'm back on plan now that we're home. I'm determined not to be discouraged that I'm probably going to have to lose weight that I already lost. I will just plug along.

Welcome back!!

Chicago is definitely the place to be to be eating very well. :) My husband and I loved checking out all kinds of restaurants because there's such an ecclectic mix. We love Rick Bayless...he's our favorite chef. I have all his cookbooks and frequently use them. I got to meet him and his daughter last September when they did a cooking demonstration at a store nearby his restaurants. He also did a demonstration at the Food & Wine Festival in WDW back in November.

I'm so glad to hear you had a wonderful time!!!

Well, I weighed myself this morning & I'm back at 150. Really, not as bad as I expected. Yesterday was great "plan"-wise. I ate well & did lots of exercise. I did 3 miles on the treadmill (40 min.) & then my friend called in the evening and wanted to go walking. So we went another 3-4 miles. So I definately have a good start on exercise for the week. I upping my goal to 15 miles for the week since I already have 6 down.

So far, so good today. We leave for WDW in 16 days. OH. MY. GOSH. I have so much to do. Time has gotten away from me. Of course I'm excited, but a little nervous. My DH is flying down a few days before DD and I to attend a conference. So, I will be flying with DD alone. This will be her first plane ride and she's 13 months old so I'm not sure how all that sitting will go! I'm planning to bring lots of snacks, toys, books etc., but I'm still nervous.

Fortunately, we're flying non-stop out of a very small local airport, but I still haven't figured out how I'm going to navigate the stroller, carseat, carryon & baby through security and to the gate. Oh well, it will all work out. I'm just freaking out a little because I didn't realize how soon it is until we go.

Clare
05-03-2005, 11:41 PM
Today was a good day. Food was fine (except for those few bites of DH's ice cream...........shhhhh don't tell!). I did 3 miles on the treadmill in 40 minutes, free weights for my arms, and my 8 minute abs & buns videos. I also took about a 1/2 mile walk with DD in stroller earlier in the day. So between yesterday and today, I've done about 10 miles (not counting all the running around my house chasing my daughter :flower: ). Lately, when I'm on the treadmill I do a combo of walking and jogging. I think tomorrow I will just stick to walking at a pretty relaxed pace because my legs are a little sore tonight. I think I need to let them recover a bit.

On another topic, I think I need to take my measurements and track them as well as my weight. I know that muscle weighs more than fat & I've been working out more lately than I have since college. I'm hoping that will help keep me motivated since the pounds don't drop as quickly as I'd like.

I just want to say thanks for everyone's support and encouragement. I've never been one to announce to everyone I know that "Hey, I'm on a diet. Support me!". So, it's been really great to get that support from you guys. Just knowing that I need to check in here every day keeps me honest and motivated.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my journal. It sounds like you are on the right track!!!

What did you think of Wicked? I saw it last summer in NYC and really liked it; I'm so glad they tamed the book down for a family audience because I think it's a great story for kids to hear.

BTW- I'm a sucker for ice cream also, which will only get harder as the summer progresses.

Have a good Wed.!

I hear you on this!! I remember reading that the scale isn't always the best determination of how your body is changing, because you could be trading out fat for muscle...but your body is actually getting smaller even if the weight doesn't change. This one book I own says to keep a pair of jeans or something out and trry them on once a week. So I'm doing that with my favorite pair of shorts that have been so tight on me the last few years that I can't wear them. I also take my measurements to help me stay motivated because sometimes the slow pound loss can frustrate me...but seeing smaller measurements helps to remind me that my body is getting smaller even if the pounds aren't changing. Still, it'd be nice to see a larger decrease in the scale. :rotfl:

Keep up the good work, Clare...you're doing EXCELLENT!

We loved it! I also had read the book, so I was expecting it to be darker. Plus, I usually never like any adaptation of books I read. I always think the book is better. But, I was pleasantly surprised by the music, the humor & the message. It was great! Plus, it was the first night of the tour in Chicago so there was just that extra "energy" I thought.

Well, the scale is not budging & I'm starting to get really irritated. I ended up not exercising yesterday because we had company for supper plus my muscles needed a break, but I ate well. I cooked a nice healthy dinner for everyone (baked chicken, salad, strawberries, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, rolls). I skipped the potato and rolls. I'm drinking enough water today to drown a horse & I will be getting some exercise in. I'm dreading my "weigh-in" tomorrow.

You are doing fine. The scale not moving much is frustrating, but as long as you stick it out, the scale will move. Mary is right about trying on some of the thinner clothes in the closet. I have done that a few times and was pleasantly surprised. Oh yeah! Don't forget to have a packing party every time you get out of bigger clothes and get them out of the house! No need to start "feeling comfortable" again. I will lose weight to feel comfortable. ;)

Keep up the good work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Well, wonders never cease. I am down 2 pounds to 148. Slowly but surely I'm getting to where I want to be. Yesterday was just an excellent day all around. I got my 3 miles in (39 minutes) & ate really well. I usually let myself relax a little food-wise on the weekends, but not this weekend. I'm hoping to keep the scale moving in the right direction by really watching myself.

Have a great weekend everyone & thanks for all the encouragement!

Hi all!

Thanks everyone for sharing in my loss! (It does sound funny pearlieq :rotfl2: ) Well, I am WAY overdue for an update. I've just been crazy busy & my internet connection has been crawling at a snail's pace for the last few days, so I've been lucky to even get e-mail checked. I don't know what the problem is....I need to call and complain. So sorry to those who's journal's I normally visit. I'll try to make it by in the next couple of days.

EXERCISE: I got 15 miles on the treadmill in last week & so far this week I have 8.

FOOD: Not perfect, not terrible. Overall, I feel like I'm doing pretty good, but I'm not expecting to be down much (if at all) this Friday.

I'm frantically preparing for WDW. My DH leaves Sunday and he is taking most of our stuff down, so I'm trying to get packed. Maybe I'm weird, but I just love packing....laying stuff out, folding it 'just so', making 50 trips to Target for "just one last item". All the frenzy lets me know that vacation is just around the corner!

Hey Clare- I love packing too! We leave tomorrow for Hilton Head, and I just put my first load of laundry in. I'll be off to Target soon myself ;)

Weigh-in time. I'm down to 147, so that's another pound gone! I'm pleased with that. I need to go at least 4 more miles on the treadmill between now and Sunday, but that is totally do-able. I'm looking forward to a crazy weekend......dinner with my parents tonight, bridal shower, swimming lessons & company for dinner on Sat., and on Sunday we take DH to the airport after church!

I can't believe we'll all be together in Florida at this time next week!!!

Hi everyone! We are back from our fabulous trip to WDW! We had such a great time & I must admit, I'm a little sad to be home. DD loved it & our first flying vacation with her went really, really well. We did comment though that we didn't realize how easy we had it traveling before kids. It just requires so much more energy, organization, & STUFF!!!!

I'm only up 1 pound to 148 which I feel really good about & I'm trying to get back in to the groove. It's so hard after vacation isn't it?

Well, I hope you all are doing well. I'll try to catch up on journals as soon as I get some time! Now, I'm off to unpack & do laundry. Back to reality!

Hi everyone! Listen to this.......my husband and I had the stomach flu over the weekend. For a full 2 days, all I consumed was 7UP, a piece of toast and a few crackers. Now, I know this is a horrible way to lose weight & believe me I'd rather have the weight on than have the flu. But, I will admit, as I lay in my misery (and I mean MISERY) I did think to myself......"Silver lining to all this, maybe I'll lose a pound or two". NOPE!!!! All that suffering and not even an ounce gone - life is so unfair! I'm still stuck at 148.

So I am once again vowing to get back OP. I've really been bad with exercise since we got home from WDW & that starts again today. I stocked the fridge last night with plenty of healthy food choices so I have no excuse for not eating well. I'm going to get back on the water wagon too. That used to be something that was so easy for me, but in the last couple weeks I haven't done as well. That will probably help.

Another goal for this week is to check in here every day. It really keeps me accountable. Have a great day everyone!

Oh that's so not fair! For all the misery and suffering you should at least get a pound or two for it!!!

One day at a time--getting back OP is not easy, but at least you know where you're going and can keep moving forward. We'll be here...

Hope you have a great day!

Sorry to hear that you were not feeling well. I think it must be Murphy's Law working against you as far as no weight loss after being sick.

At least you are on the mend and can get back OP. Have a good day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi all! Yesterday was a good day all around & I got some time on the treadmill in. Today DD and I went to visit my grandma who is considered by all who know her to be the best cook on the planet. She did have lots of good stuff for lunch (mostly fresh veggies) so it wasn't too bad, although she is constantly saying, "now, don't you want some more?" & "now, what do you want me to wrap up for you to take home?"!! I did have a very small piece of cake, but overall I felt pretty good about not overeating at "Nana's".

I plan to get on the treadmill tonight and I need to keep drinking the water.

Did you do a trip report on your trip to WDW? I always find it hard to get back to a routine after a trip. Good for you on only gaining a pound while on vacation though.

Good job managing at your grandmothers! The fresh veggies sound good.

Glad to hear you're on the mend and back to exercise. Keep up the good work. You can do it! :cheer2:

Have a great day! :sunny:

Weigh-in time. I'm back down to 147, so basically I'm right where I was before we left on our trip. It's been a pretty good week all-around, although I'm still working on getting back on track exercise wise.

As always, thanks for all the encouragement.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi everybody!
Hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was great, but BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. I weighed this morning and I'm still at 147 (even though I ate some not-so-good food this weekend!). I'm getting ready to cut fruit for the fridge & later today I'm making low-fat soup to eat on this week.

It's going to be a great week!

Happy Friday everyone! I am down to 145 - woohoo!! That is another 2 pounds gone. Exercise was only okay this week, but I feel like I ate pretty well. It's just been crazy around here, but I was able to stay pretty focused so I'm feelin' good.

Have a great weekend :cool1: :cool1:

I am so ashamed that I haven't posted here in over a month. We went on a long vacation with my family & came home to huge computer problems. Eventually, we just got a new machine so I'm back in business now. I'm sad to say that I am up about 5 pounds to 150 after vacation, etc. But....I'm trying to get back on track. It's such a good time of year to eat well with so many fresh fruits and veggies available that I feel like I have no excuse. I'll keep you all posted.

I totally understand being UP after vacation....me, too!

The important thing is that we get back on track and it will come back off and more.

Have a great Tuesday!

Well, the scale is really not moving (maybe a pound or so), but the past few days have been pretty good food-wise. Especially considering that we had several get-togethers this weekend. I am going to do this. I'm just so irritated with myself that I'm re-losing weight I already lost. ARGHHHHHHH! Here's to a good week for all of us!!

BRAVO on rededicating yourself to this. I had an off day yesterday and really felt like I fell off the bandwagon but when I got on the scale, I was okay. You'll be okay too!!!!! Keep up the good work.

Keep on

I'm hanging in there!!! Still, the scale is not moving, but I know it's mostly due to the fact that I'm not back in my exercise groove yet. I WILL DO THIS!

Thanks for the encouragement! The weekend was not my best work, but today has been great. I ate very well for breakfast (fresh Ranier cherries - I could live on them!) and lunch (Low fat chicken taco soup - yum!). Dinner is grilled fish and veggies. I'm also getting my butt on the treadmill tonight after DD is in bed.
