Please help. I am new at this gardening thing. I have moles running around one of the flower beds. They are making tunnels all around the plants!! pirate:

My Dad digs them up and relocates them to the woods! :)

Welcome, flakypuff and MouseClubMom! :flower3:
flakypuff, here's a link with some info/ideas on getting rid of the moles.
~Getting Rid of Moles~ (http://www.stretcher.com/stories/01/011112a.cfm)
A couple of years ago we had a thread about some sort of vaccuum device that could be used on moles, but I couldn't find it when I did a search. I'll look some more and see what I can dig up. Pun intended..;)
Last year was the first year I ever had problems with moles. I thought they were cute until my plants all started to wilt. Those pink footed rodents have tunneled into every flower garden munching the root of my plants.
Visited the nursery, first I tried repellents. Very expensive and they worked for maybe a day. Next traps, while I was trying to trap 1 rodent the rest wiped out my hosta plants, perennials and veggies. Reluctantly poisons. Well I still have moles. Calling in the Big Guns. The exterminators because I fear I may poison everything but those moles.
Gardening is always a challenge, and I'm losing this war.

I've always heard the way to reduce them is to get rid of their food. You may have grubs. Check with your local county extension office for advise. Hope this helps before they do to much damage.

It's a vicious cycle. Japanese Beetles, Grubs, then the moles & voles to eat the grubs:sad2: If you live near the woods it's even more diffcult to get rid of the grubs & moles.
Mamu is right if we pour too many chemicals into the mole holes we'll turn our gardens into toxic dumps
Lock & load or better living through chemistry?

Okay, I don't know much about getting rid of pests in the yard (I've got squirrels coming out of my ears) but I have heard of putting a glass coke bottle (or longneck beer bottle) into the mole hole and putting something like a stick into the bottle so that the wind can blow it around. What they say is the clanging of the stick on the sides of the bottle is supposed to scare the mole away. If this really works, I don't know. I've never had to fight with the little devils because for some reason my dog enjoys digging them up for me! :rotfl:
