This is our first time cruising. Always wanted to go on cruise since "Love Boat". Was going to wait until the kids grew up, but wife decided life is too short too wait. Probably our last full family vacation for a while since the kids are growing up. We can't wait. "Wonder"ing who else might be going? We are from the black swamp of Ohio and the land is as flat as can be. :jumping1: :cool1:

We live in the swamps of Louisiana. I think we already replied to the question of your shy DD. We have purchased the 7 night land and sea package and will be staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter (will remind us of home) prior to the cruise.
Look forward to meeting you on the cruise.

Great Black swamp refers to the area was once a swamp of Lake Erie 1800's that is now drained. Babysit are you kidding :rotfl2: that is not cool. :cool1: We are really getting excited about the cruise. Believe it or not we are already began packing. Now after the snow today, sitting on deck with a drink sounds very inviting. Can't wait to meet new people from all over.

We don't have to worry about the snow but we are looking forward to the relaxing with a drink. We enjoy meeting people as well. Are you staying at the park or are you cruising only? ( We pay top dollar for babysitting!!!)

We are doing cruise only. We went to DW 6 years ago. We try to do a new adventure every year. Virginia Beach, Henry Ford Museum, Smokey Mountains, Hiking, Bicycling, train to Toronto. A friend suggested taking your tax return and use it for vacation no exceptions. The bills will be there when you return and always will be there. We haven't regretted it one bit. DD said if there was a 1 in front of that 6(DS) you would have a deal. Do you realize only 44 days left? I have my phone count it down. It sounds like we are the only one's on the ship. Wouldn't that be "Wonder"ful.

We use our returns for the same purpose and we fine the experiences are well worth the investment. We are very excited about this trip. We have only been on smaller vacations in the last few years so we are looking forward to this one. I decided to go back to school after our DS was born so we are using this trip to celebrate my new degree. You're right I think we are the only ones going, but it certainly won't ruin our fun.
40 days and counting......and the excitement builds!!!

The way I have it figured with the 3 of you and my 4 equals 7. Now there are 970(I made up that number) crew members. See where I'm going. That has a ratio of 1 cruiser to 138.57 crew members. They should be waiting on us hand and foot

Has your family planned any shore excursions in the Bahamas? We will probably be chosing something 6- year-old friendly like the Discover Atlantis
tour. Have you heard anything about the excursions? The only thing we have heard is the Glass Bottom Boat trip is not so great. Also, some of the threads I have read are not so flattering to the Bahamian Port of Call. Have you ever been to the Bahamas? Just curious about your thoughts.
Thanks

Snow again today YUCK.
I think my DD16 is doing the teen thing at CC and maybe Nassua. DW and I were talking about the glass bottom boat but is has a bad rep. My brother been to Bahamas and said to rent a taxi and ask the driver to show you the sights. They drive on left side of road and I guess really have no street laws. It is a free for all. He said it is a blast and you get to see what you want. He also said don't sleep-- you can do that at home or on plane. Do the midnight desert buffet and eat anything you can't pronounce.
We thought about atlantis a lot of walking and have been to aquariums before.
Will probably go into city at Nassau then back to ship.
I'm reading passporters for the second time it has a lot of information.
DS12 is planning on playing at CC and do banana boat ride, trike, snorkeling(I might join him).
We will have to get together, we are in cabin 7003.
I asked my DD16 and DD12 who were 10 and 6 when we went to WDW. They said do blizzard beach, muppets, Shrunk the audience, and eat at (don't remember name) but in MGM and it is a 50's setting like leave it to beaver and swim until midnight. Rides didn't thrill them but we have Cedar Point 2 hours away (the roller coaster capital of the world)

Thanks for your thoughts. I still think we will do the Atlantis thing. DS saw the picture in the brochure and he has not stopped taliking about it. After that we may do some shopping in the Straw market. We were in Jamaica a few years ago and the driving is the same.....livin' on the edge. We probably won't put our 6 year-old in a taxi if we can help it.
We are in cabin 2570 but our TA say's since we booked so early we will probably be elligible for an up-grade. My DH gets sea sick so I think maybe we should stay lower in the ship. We will see. Like you say, we can sleep at home so the rooms are not that big of a deal to us.
:hourglass 33 days and counting.

:sunny: My family of 4 is also cruising for the first time on June 9. We are in room 5018. My husband and I with our 2 kids - girl age 13 and boy age 9. Look forward to meeting all of you!
We are doing the Blackbeard's CAy and STing Ray adventure in Nassau and hangin on beach at Castaway Cay.

Dissyblonde I think I found that babysitter in nittany89 :rotfl2: Well that makes 3 families. I see by the DCL web site they have lots of openings on the ship. Upgrades?!?! Nittany89 where are you from? Me OH and Dissyblonde LA. We ahve to get together since we have ship to ourselves and enjoy a drink on deck. Oh yeah believe it or not, it snowed AGAIN today YUCK :cold: :cold:
Dissyblonde
05-03-2005, 09:39 PM
:sunny: We have had gorgeous weather for two weeks. Sorry about all that snow. Where and when are we meeting for that drink?
nittany89
05-04-2005, 06:51 AM
:sunny: We are from Pennsylvania. Where in Ohio are you from? We've been there a few times, have relatives in North Royalton and Mayfield Heights. Do you know how the upgrade works? I hear that they sometimes do that, but I've also heard that you won't get upgraded when you request a room. When we booked a long time ago, they had you choose a room, so now I"m wondering if we've lost that opportunity.
Dissyblonde
05-04-2005, 08:05 AM
I have heard various things about upgrades. Some say if the cruise is not full and you booked early then you may get upgraded. I have heard if you pick a room then there won't be an upgrade, but I don't know how accurate that is. We were told what room we would be in when we received our innitial confirmation letter but we did not pick a room. We are doing the Land and Sea vacation package so I don't know if that makes a difference either. There are so many variables but the thing I am most concerned about is lying on the deck and having a drink and I don't recall that I need an upgrade for that. :goodvibes
See you in 32 days.
kevlois
05-04-2005, 08:47 PM
nittany89 we are 60 miles south of Toledo. Been to PA a couple of times passing through. I guess upgrades are hit and miss. Are you doing land and sea?? We are doing just sea. Guys lets meet 2:00 Day 1 for drinks at beach blanket buffet. Hey no snow today. Dissyblonde how early did you book? we booked last March 2004. see you in 35 days
Dissyblonde
05-04-2005, 10:22 PM
You're right we leave in 32 day but we won't meet you guys until the 9th
[35 days]. I've been counting the days until our vacation which starts June 5th. I think we booked in January of 2004, I remember our TA looking at us like we were a bit anxious. {We were excited to go somewhere.} ::MickeyMo Our TA tells us we have a 90% chance of an upgrade [whatever that means] but my priority is still the deck with a fancy drink and that does not require an upgrade. So has anyone packed yet? I think I might start tomorrow. :earseek:
Dissyblonde
05-05-2005, 08:33 AM
kevlois, about that drink are you talking 2:00am or pm??? We would probably be there for either time- :rotfl: what the heck it's vacation time.
I officially started packing today.
Was wonder' ing if anyone booked Palo for dinner? We planned to just do the regular seating for dinner..... 3 nights 3 dining-rooms right?....so we did not plan on Palo. You think we will really miss anything. Since we live in New Orleans and there are an abundance of superb restaurants here we are not as concerned about where we eat......
more like all we can eat
See you soon
kevlois
05-05-2005, 10:05 PM
Yes we started packing about a week ago. How does 2:00 A.M. and P.M. sound? I'm planning on drinking anything with an umbrella. dissyblonde, You will love WDW as will your DS. When we went, we swam until 1:00 am and up again at 7:00 am for 4 days then went to cocoa beach for a couple of days to relax. we are planning on doing the three regular dinner seatings. This is likely our last full family vacation since DD is growing up. So an adult only dinner will come soon enough. If we get an upgrade that would be great but or TA says that you spend so little time in your cabin.
Dissyblonde
05-06-2005, 09:00 AM
I have been to WDW, but it has been a very long time. This will be the first trip for my DS and DH. DH was not that excited about going at first, because he does not like amusement parks. I told him it was way more than just an amusement park. He is really up for it now, of course the cruise was very appealing to him too.[even though he gets sea-sick, go figure] We are already thinking about the DCL 7 day cruise for next year. It sounds like both of our families have milestones with this trip. The last big family vacation for you and the first one for us. I'll drink to that

Just registered our DS12 in Oceaneer Lab on DCL website. I see there is also place to download documents. What seating did you guys get? We got the 6:00 seating which is nice. DW is not a night owl. On the other hand I'm a morning person and have trouble sleeping past 7:00 usually 6:00. What ever the time is, it is always beer-thirty
Dissyblonde
05-10-2005, 09:40 AM
We have early dinner seating as well. I have not been able to register DS for the kids club because the site says there is an error with my user name. There is suppose to be someone checking on that. Are you wearing coat and/or tie for dinner seatings. My DH says he is on vacation and does not want to wear a tie. I bet a nice shirt with collar is okay.
Did we lose nittany89????
Kevlois will you be having an umbrella in your beer at beer-thirty? :umbrella:
kevlois
05-10-2005, 05:23 PM
DS12 and I are bringing ties don't know if we will where them. Beer umbrella well yea that goes without saying I don't want my beer getting watered down. and yes a button shirt is ok. Maybe nittany89 fell overboard, throw her a life preserver or a drink :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Is that alcohol abuse? We sound like a couple of drunks.
Dissyblonde
05-10-2005, 06:27 PM
I think real drunks hide it better than we do. Don't they say people who have to talk about it all the time really aren't doing it???? I have to plan my drinking because I don't get anything of significance done when I do have a cocktail ( I'm kinda a light-weight). So I look forward to the times when I can say- "It's Miller time"....or "it's (fill in your favorite beverage) time" It just adds to the festive atmosphere. Besides it is only abuse when someone puts their eye out.......with the umbrella!!! pirate: arrrrrr!
On another note. Do you know much about the trays you can order for your staterooms for arrival? I was thinking of ordering something because we are celebrating our 9th anniversary this trip but I was not sure if they would be all that great. I know "it's Disney" but still...... I guess I will surf some of the other threads to see if anyone talks about them.
See you in 30 days :cheer2:
kevlois
05-11-2005, 08:31 PM
We are celebrating our 18th anniversary. :love2: DW is excited about the split bed option. Go figure. :confused3 But I'm an early moning person and she likes to sleep in. I know nothing of the trays. DD and DS are excited about staying out late although DD wants me to wake her one morning to watch the sun rise.

Hey there kevlois, dissyblonde, nitany89.... we'll be there too on the 9th. We (myself, DH, DD-14) are also doing the 4 night land, 3 night sea. We are from North Carolina and are coming down on Saturday so we can hit Magic Kingdom bright and early on Sunday morning... This is the first cruise for my DH and DS and their first trip to WDW. I have been to WDW before but it has been such a long time I am sure everthing is different. We are excited.
Look forward to meeting you.

:flower: Welcome LoriJ. I too have DD - who will be 14 in August. Is yours planning on doing any of the teen activities. Mine is a little nervous about going to those things on her own, although she is normally very outgoing.
Lorij
05-12-2005, 01:49 PM
Dissyblonde, we are in Port Orleans Riverside. We asked for Magnolia Terrace, we'll see what we get. We have not been on a cruise either, but have been to WDW several times. You will have a great time in the parks, just don't try to see it all!!! Take advantage of the early mornings and the one late night that we have, that will give you extra time.
Nittany 89, DD turned 14 in March. I think she is planning on going to the teen areas to check them out. I don't know whether she will stay there or not, but she usually does pretty good on her own. I told her on the ship she could go where she wanted to except another person's room, but off the ship she has to be with either her Dad or I.

Hi, LoriJ, Kevlois, dissblonde and nittany89
I, along with my DD14 and DS12, will be on the June 9th Wonder. We did the land/sea package and we will be arriving on June 4th at the Poly.
This is our first time cruising. Always wanted to go on cruise since "Love Boat".
OMG, you too! I remember watching the Love Boat almost religously. This is my family's first cruise also. I have planned, and planned, and planned, and planned, and planned till' can't plan no more! :cloud9: So I am now ready to have some fun and remain flexible on the plans so I don't stress the kiddies out. (Type B personality! :teeth: )
We are in stateroom 6588. Although, I would love to upgrade to a category 3. I don't know what the odds are since I read somewhere that they only have 22 suites and they book well in advance. Oh well, maybe another year! :flower:
Lorij
05-26-2005, 10:03 AM
:grouphug: WELCOME!! Glad to see another cruiser join us! Your young'ns are about the same age as mine, Nittany89's and kevlois' so they should have lots of fun :Pinkbounc Most of us are new cruisers, so we can explore together.
We are doing the land sea too and are at the POFQ starting Saturday afternoon. (couldn't wait, so we're coming a day early!). DH and I were just discussing yesterday, do we leave at 6am or 4??? I think 4 is winning out, more time for fun in the world!!! :moped:
See you at 2pm at BBB if you want on Thursday, unless we run into you at the parks earlier.
kevlois
05-26-2005, 08:58 PM
welcome aboard ams71. :grouphug: Is your DS12 signed up for oceaneer lab? My DS12 is. How will we know you?
Part of me envies you guys doing land and sea and part of me remembers how tiring and overwelming WDW can be. Oh well, if DW had more vacation time would probably do the land/sea.
Lorij leave at 4 and beat the traffic
ams71
05-26-2005, 09:41 PM
Sounds great! I just hope I have arrived by that time. I am playing with the idea of catching the DCL bus from AK.
nittany89
05-27-2005, 07:22 AM
We are actually doing the cruise and then off to WDW to 6 nights. The deal was too good to pass up. I guess we'll be pretty exhausted by the time it's over!
Lorij
05-27-2005, 08:24 AM
I know that WDW can be pretty exhausting. I remember our first trip where we could hardly walk at the end of the week. But since we have all been there several times, we aren't trying to see EVERYTHING.... So, hopefully it will be a more relaxed trip than most.
Kevlois, we are definately considering leaving at 4am. :moped: Not only will we miss the traffic, but DH wants to stop at Belz outlets and stock up on pin tradingstock. DD isn't too enthused, but she can throw a pillow in the back of the car and snooze away.

We are taking our first cruise too! We are very excited and can't wait. Our 3 kids are excited too. We're spending 3 days at Port Orleans before getting on the ship on the 9th. Looking forward to meeting other families with kids! We're from the Chicago area now, but used to live in Ohio... near Akron. We loved it there.
Lorij
05-27-2005, 04:24 PM
Hi there! :cheer2: Gee, the ship is filling up... Maybe we'll run into you at PO before the cruise. Are you at riverside or french quarter?
Meyer
05-27-2005, 04:33 PM
We're PO Riverside. Arriving Monday night. Lounging on Tuesday and Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. We considered two days at the theme parks, but R and R is much needed, so we thought we'd just hang out on Tuesday. Only four more days of school for my 3.
Have you cruised before?
Lorij
05-27-2005, 04:40 PM
We are at Riverside too, arriving Saturday. We've been to the parks but haven't cruised before. Thought a 3 day would be a good introduction to see if we liked it. Did you know that MK is open late on Wednesday? Great timing for us as we can sleep in the next morning...
I was just up in Chicago in April for a conference, cool city, but I like my southern heat!! :bitelip:
We are all thinking of meeting at BBB on Thursday. It was 2pm, but I think some wanted to change to 3pm and I haven't seen a consensus yet. We're open for either time. See you there!! :earboy2:

We are all going to have so much fun. This is one of those trips where, if you get bored you are just a boring person!!!!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the kind welcome! You guys are going to have to teach me the abbreviations you're using, since I'm rather new to this. I can kinda follow them, and I'm assuming BBB is the buffet place on the ship. Unless I hear otherwise I'll be there with my family at 3:00. By the way, that will include my husband (DH?) and two boys (DS?), 14 and 12, and my daughter (DD?), 7. Fear not Dissyblonde, with two older brothers, my daughter will enjoy plaing with anyone on the ship that is close to her age. Shamefully I haven't started packing yet, so I can't say what we'll be wearing on Thursday. When I get that figured out, I'll let you know. For now, all I can commit to is shorts and a shirt!!!
Raining in Chicago today. Cold too. Can't wait to get to Florida in 8 days!!!!! Looking forward to getting to know new friends!

Meyer your abbreviations are right on. Is your DS 12 signed up for lab yet? Dissyblonde the DW hasn't committed to what she is wearing. She is packing as we speak(type). Nittany89 what time do you expect to get to the ship? Last one there will have a bar tab :rotfl2: "The Love Boat is exciting and new :rolleyes1 " O K got the song in my head.

Not sure what time we'll be arriving that day, since we have the VERY LONG 17 hour drive! Hoping to do most of it the day before. I will definetely keep an eye our for everyone. If we do miss everyone - feel free to stop by our stateroom.
I think most of us are on deck 7 now.

Haven't signed my DS12 up for lab yet, but I'm planning on it. He'll love it. I'm a bit concerned about finding activities for my DS14, who tends not to be very outgoing (socially) and avoids new group situations. He's the quiet type, who is at home on the computer... Hoping he will connect with a similar boy or girl and they can do some of the teen activities together. Suggestions? Anyone???
One week from today!!!! The Meyer countdown begins.....

Hey Meyer I can't help with the teen thing....not there yet....but I bet he will be just fine!
Okay, I am all packed :cheer2:
MY DH refuses to wear a tie or jacket to dinner(who can blame him it is vacation) so I may be dining with my DS only (which is okay because it is my vaction too!).
We head to the airport in 5days, 10hours and 22minutes! :moped:
:rolleyes1 Come aboard we're expecting you.......

Your husband only has to wear a jacket/tie at Palo, right? The other three resteraunts will be fine with pants and a collared shirt. Otherwise, your DH and mine can hang out at a bar and we'll eat all of the yummy food with our kids. I have mine talked into a coat and tie for one night. He's not thrilled about it though.
:hourglass We leave for the airport in six days and 19 hours. I'm counting the minutes and haven't starting packing yet. I did put the beach shoes in a pile in the corner of my room today though. Does that count?
 One week from right now we'll be on our plane!

My DH is planning on wearing Hawaiian shirts and Khakis. The only place I believe a tie is required in the short cruises is Palo, so I think your DH's are just fine as long as they don't wear shorts or jeans.
Meyer, my DD(14) and Nittany89's DD(13) have been instant messaging on yahoo for the last week getting to know each other. If your DS would like to join in, just let us know and we will send over the YIM id's. They seem to be having a ball getting to know each other. :hyper2:
ok, so I have DH's pirate costume ready, DD's dresses hung by the suit carrier and suitcases out on the living room couch starting to collect "stuff". Went yesterday to Walmart and picked up cameras for the snorkling excursion and paid bills so I know how much we have to spend..... I think we're getting close to ready. :moped: Luckily, I have Friday off, so I can run to AAA and get travelers cheques, wash the clothes and be ready to pull out of the driveway at O'dark thirty on Saturday.... :bounce: Now all I have to do is try and get some work done for the next three days!! :thewave:

Lorij and Nittany 89, I asked my DS 14 if he would be interested in getting to know a few of the people on the ship before we got there and he thought that would be great. He hasn't been bitten by the girl bug yet, so I'm sure they will all have fun hanging out. Please send along the YIM id's, and let your DDs know my DS will be in touch. We don't usually use yahoo and have never instant messaged, but he will give it a whirl.
Five days until Florida... Bought a new suit and coverup today.

Nittany89: We're still in the dark ages here and we're hoping they can just e-mail each other. Lorij sent me her daughter's e-mail address in a secure message (I have no idea how she did it) so that her address wasn't out there for all to see. Her DD already has my DSs e-mail address, so how about if your DD askes Lorij's DD for his address? Either that, or perhaps you could send me your DDs address in a secure e-mail? Whatever works.

Where is kevlois? And we have not heard in a while from ams71.
My family leaves in 2 days, 6hrs. oooohhhhh. :wizard: We are feelin' the magic (or the wonder)? We will be in BBB with our tropical beads around our necks. If we don't talk to you guys again before we leave, everyone travel safely and we look forward to meeting you all on the 9th 3p.m.

Hi all. I'm trying to decide what we will be wearing on Thursday at 3:00. My DH always wears a baseball cap when he's in the sun, so I'm guessing he will either be in his Cubs hat, his Leafs (my DSs ice hockey team) hat or his Huntley youth football hat. I will TRY to remember to wear a beige tropical print tank top and kakhi shorts. I'll be looking for beads and leighs, and fun-looking people. See you in less than a week!!!

Hi Nittany89: I tried to respond to your private message and my $%^&* computer would not let me. Now that we have your DDs e-mail, let her know she can expect an e-mail from my son later today. He will refer to the cruise in the subject line so she know's its from him.
When are you guys arriving in Florida???
Lorij

Hi Meyer - Got the email. I'll try and have her respond sometime today. Have a very busy day planned today!
We will be leaving for our long drive from Pennsylvania early Wednesday. I'll look for everyone at BBB @ 3:00. I have no idea what we'll be wearing cause we are last minute packers. But I"ll find all of you. Looking forward to the cruise!
