First round due out by June 1st!!!

You can go on two peas if your not sure what I am talking about -
there is also an article in this months issue of scrapbooks etc...

It would have to be limited to 12 participants
first come first serve...

we will start a yahoo group for the CJ group so we can post mailing addys and 411 there...

DOES NOT have to be a Disney theme CJ but a great way to get to know our DIS friends - I have done a Favorite Song CJ (which is kewl cuz I put a cd in it and everyone burnt their fav song to it) and now I am in one with a 'Drink Menu theme' for my book. Other themes in other books were 'All About Me', A letter to my younger self, my favorite vacation spot (duh for us here-lol) my dream vacation, In my Heart of Hearts, A memorable Moment, My purse (kinda funny with all th contents in some of them), etc... again check out twopeas for more great theme ideas!

once a month mailings - by the first
Must have Intro/directions page (be sure to specify if youlike BULKIES or don't want them, sign in pages and
minimum 2 page spread per person
max size album would be 8x10 for shipping price reasons... kind is not importatn - I buy spirals from Mikes and pull out the spiral put ribbons through and alter, i have seen CM books, paper bag books, and several other types so that doesn't matter. (the smallest I have seen is 6x6 ish)

I read the article about CJ, and it sounds interesting. I'll have to go back and look at it again to see what's involved. Next month is turning out to be a really busy one for me, so I'd have to make sure I could find the time. Please keep us informed. I would love to do something like this!

I'll play! I just got into a CJ group on 2peas, but a Dis one would be fun. If you need help organizing Patty just let me know, I'd be happy to help out. I'd love to do a Disney theme! "My favorite character" maybe?

pattyT
04-05-2005, 10:37 AM
I din't meatn that it Couldn't be a DISNEY theme -
just that it didn't have to be...

so ILOVEPOOH1 had the"favorite Character" theme
mine is going to be "Most treasured Disney moments" or 'true confessions - disney style' - I haven't decided as of yet!

ha-ha I don't even know what theme I will take - lol

SweetMaxine - that is why I am doing monthy mailings - i was in a CJ group where it was every two weeks and it was tough for everone at some point... I figure monthly will work out better

Patty, I didn't know what a CJ was until you mentioned it here in the past and I looked it up then. I would definitly be interested. Not sure what theme I would pick right now, but it sounds like something very special to do. Joyce

Carrie - I was just going to post the same thing!!! I found this thread on 2Peas.

List of Ideas Thread (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/mb.asp?cmd=display&thread_id=1114755)

I would definitely be interested in something like an 8x8 book swap regarding Disney themes.

Great idea!

Patty, I would like to join in also. The circle journals in the magazines always look so cool. I have a question, is it one journal that goes around, or do we each start a journal that goes around? Angel

mla973

Patty,

Thanks for hosting! I think this sounds really great. Just to summarize out loud here, as I've never done this before...

We need to purchase/create a book (min. 6x6, max. 8x10) for the circle journal. I'm assuming one page for sign-in, one page for instructions, and a double-page spread done by the journal owner need to be created before passing on by June 1. Then, 11 participants will each create double-page spreads as they receive the journals. So, my estimation is the books need to have space for 26 pages? Does that sound correct?

Also, a suggestion... IMHO, I would really like it if all of our themes related to Disney in some way. I will still participate if otherwise, just that we have all "met" because of Disney, and it seems fitting to "get to know each other better" through Disney as well. Just my 2 cents. Again, I will participate either way, just wanted to throw that out there.

Will you be choosing a standard size and/or brand for the books, or do we each choose our own? (i.e. page protectors, no protectors, etc.)

This sounds great. I guess by June 2006, we will have them done??? I hope we get 12 people from the DIS to sign up. :earboy2:

Megan

pattyT
04-06-2005, 06:58 PM
your summary is correct - but I would advise to add extra pages (I know the 2peas group I am in one of the topics one of the girls requested to be albe to use 4 pages to accomodate all of her journalling)
and my SIGN IN pages were a two page spread...

everyone chooses their own style book - you are correct...

I would also prefer it all be disney theme -
but I would rather have all DIS BOARD members - and if they prefer a different theme to get to know their fellow disboard members so-be-it.
(it can always have a disney twist - like if Kim decided she wants to do 'All About Me' you could use all Disney paper and embellishments!)

And yes we should be done by June 2006 full circle!
s long as all goes well!

were uo to 7 now

Patty, I'd like to do the circle journal, but I've got twins who will be seniors next year in HS, and I'm thinking it will be a really busy year. I'm not sure I can commit to doing this for the whole year.

How much time does it involve? I wouldn't want to get started with something, and then not be able to finish it. I might be better off just sticking with the swaps for right now.

hey patty, I still don't get it. :guilty: do all the books go to one person at a time? so you would do 12 in one fell swoop? clearly I shouldn't have had that glass of wine with dinner before reading this. :) (and why does it take a year?) maggie

I "think" I may want to join. Need to go on 2peas an read all about it while I'm off the next 2 days so I will get back to you with a final answer......:)

mla973
04-06-2005, 09:59 PM
nicurn - I believe each participant starts their own book (12 total), then each month, you pass it onto the next person and create 2 pages for their book (which will have its own unique theme).

So, if there are 12 people, each taking one month to complete their 2 pages, it will take one year for the books to come full circle back to the original creator. (At least this is how I understand it.)

LindaBabe
04-06-2005, 10:24 PM
I'd like to join (now that i've read the instructions about three or six times ;-). I also vote for 8x8 and my chosen topic will be "I am . . . " a disney park, resort or character that speaks to you and why or how it represents your "spirit".

Here's a little more detail. I PM'd this to Maggie in case she's no longer watching.

We each pick a book btwn 6x6 and 8x10 and a theme. We put instructions on what we want people to do in your book and a sign in for everyone who works on our book. We do teh first 2 pg LO.

For mine, that will be "My Favorite Disney Memory", I will likely do my chance encounter with Pooh in AK. That will be the first 2 pg spread in my book. (or right after instructions and signatures)

By June 1, I will mail it on to the next person. I will receive someone else's cj. I will read their instructins and complete at least a 2 pg LO on their theme in their book.

So, maybe I get your book and you want a cj on my favorite Disney meal. Then your would get at least 2-pg LO on my breakfast at teh GF. Hmmm... 2 pages of Pecan Pancakes and strawberries and cream. Then, we ship out those books by July 1 and receive the next book.

Patty will set up a Yahoo group with info for this. My guess is that it will be addresses and what order we send the books around in.

After 12 months, we should each have done everyone's books and get our own book back.

It will be really cool to check out everyone's styles and learn more about those in our group.

A quick question, when you make the pages you don't use photos? So you would make a page with photo mats and when we get it back we add the pictures? Just curious as I have never heard of this before, but sounds really interesting!
Franne

mla973
04-07-2005, 11:19 AM
Franne - I am hoping that we will be using photos. I plan to use them for mine. I suppose each person can specify in their "theme instructions" regarding photos.

Example: If you recive a CJ with a theme of "My favorite character" then you could create a double-page spread designed around a photo of you and Mickey. Then, each person's layout is unique to them, and once your journal comes full circle, it will be complete (i.e. you won't have to add photos).

I'm hoping we can sort of specify in our instructions pages what types of things we are or aren't looking for in the design - that is my understanding anyway. (Ex: Using certain embellishments or brands of paper or using certain colors...)

I'm excited to start. I think we should post our theme ideas when we have them for others to see. Patty, maybe you can add the themes that each person will be using to your list of those who have signed up so we don't duplicate. I'm still thinking about mine. Are we trying to keep the topics Disney related?

Megan

pattyT
04-07-2005, 11:23 AM

So it's possible to actually kind of "pre-plan" the pages I'd be doing for everyone else since I would know the rules and restrictions?

I think this sounds neat, and I really don't want to miss the boat on this!

So, do I understand the cj comes in around the first of the month, and then I would mail it back out again on the first to the next month?

mla973
04-07-2005, 11:26 AM
I know I just posted, but here is a great example of a CJ that I saw on 2Peas. Hope it's okay to link it here.

Circle Journal (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=521709)

If you go to 2Peas and click on "Search Gallery," type in something like 30 or 60 days to search and the title to contain "circle journal" and there are some great examples of themes and ideas for the CJ's.

Looking at them is almost making it worse for me to pick my theme - too many choices!!! :rotfl:

I know one of my cj groups she had a binder going with avery page sleeves in it and she puts things that go with themes in them as she goes through life (example one book is about pets and she found some charms and papers so she threw them in the corrolating pocket - so when the album finally gets to her all she has to do is grab that section and throw it all on tha page!)

Franne
04-07-2005, 11:50 AM
I understand the theme part of this. I went to 2peas and saw the favorite flavor one, that make sense but if you pick a theme like Disney memories, I would put MY favorite memories in other people's books? But who's pictures would you use, yours or the person who's book it is? I'm usually not this slow but I think I am totally confused? :confused3

I know the swaps always fill quickly, so I was surprised that I still could get in the morning. The boards have been slow lately, and maybe not everyone is around the last few days. Ok - I figured I'd better get my theme in as well, but I'm having a hard time choosing. I was sort of trying to come up with something that would relate to our hometowns (i.e. How my hometown is like WDW, what about WDW reminds me of my hometown).

I also like the ideas of identifying a favorite Disney movie quote, song lyric, attraction song or quote, Walt quote, etc. I guess Favorite Disney "phrase" would sort of be the theme title.

I want something Disney related, but does not necessarily have to focus on Disney World specifically.

Also though about "Favorite Souvenir" (or SouvenEAR, as we say).

Any suggestions??? :confused3 Thanks!

What about a combo:
How WDW is like my home town and why I still need to get away from my HT & go to WDW?

(personally, though, I like teh song, movie, and souvenear ones, although learning about someone's hometown is a really good way to learn more about them)

PS - Would home town be where you grew up or where you live now?

Twigs - Love the idea of Disney giggles and/or laughter. There is a great CJ on 2Peas about laughter - you should look at it.

Carrie - I would think your hometown could be either that you choose, although I was thinking maybe where people live now, so we could get to know where people currently live.

I think I like the song lyric/quote one best, just thinking of what I would scrap. Thanks for the input - I don't think I have decided yet. :flower: Maybe by tomorrow (I'm going to my LSS to get inspired!)

OR do I have to stumble around trying to get a better definition? I wanted to leave plenty of room for your creativity . . .

OK - I think I'm going to commit to my theme.

"Favorite Disney Phrase"

You can scrap anything relating to a movie quote, song lyric, Walt quote, attraction song/quote, etc. Pick the phrase for any reason you like: it inspires you, it makes you laugh, it reminds you of something, etc. Obviously I can explain better in my instructions in the book.

Also, we haven't talked about formatting, but I assume it's okay if I do an 8x8 with page protectors???

Thanks! Can't wait to get started! :Pinkbounc

Patty, since this is my first circle journal to do, I need to get an idea of how many pages to allow for the project. I'm thinking of getting the spiral and just putting ribbons in, so I could take out the excess pages. Am I thinking right about this? In other words, would we set the journal up to have X# of pages--2 for each person's entries, and then 4 or 5 more for sign-in, rules, welcome page, etc.?

pattyT
04-10-2005, 11:16 AM
12 people x 2 pages each = 24
1 or 2 for intro/instructions
1 or 2 for sign in pages

Personally I buy the spirals - pull out the spiral and add the ribbons (VERY LOOSE to leave bulky room)
I leave all the pages in it as I can take them out at the end if they aren't use - but if someone wants to use 4 they can - no big deal

I bought my album yesturday :)
I like the Canson 6 1/2 x 10 from Mikes
I used it for my first CJ and I keep using the same one so that when my 'grown-up house' is done and I have a nice bookshelf I can have the same size books on them ;)
yes I am anal about stupid things

I don't think I've ever seen a 6 1/2 X 10. Interesting - working that will require some thought. I'm excited :goodvibes

Joanne's had stuff on sale yesterday - I got two 5X7 spiral albums for $5.00 each, and 2 pkgs including a 12 x 12 post album and an 8 X 8 post album for $7.00 each pkg.

Now, I'm dithering. I usually use 12 x 12's with page protectors, and don't feel very comfortable with the spirals with no protectors - but they'd be less costly to ship and easier to package than 8X8's with page protectors. On the other hand, It would be easier to add pages to the 8X8s, if anyone needed more.

What do you all think?

i never realized that joanns sold scrapbooking stuff! in our area, the one that has been there forever is closing since they are openning a new one in our new shopping center next month - i think i will try and swing by there this week to see if they are having any sales

i didnt have any luck at michaels looking for an 8x8 album - i saw an sei one that i liked online so i might have to breakdown and order that one :)

I have always used albums with page protectors, so that is what I picked out for this. I got a 8x8 Colorbok album (from Target) and have added extra protectors just in case. I have never worked on a book without protectors, where you could design open flaps/hidden journaling and things, so I am excited to try that here!!!

Also, when we complete our pages, do we post them to Yahoo through the DIS group? I am planning on putting them on 2Peas, but thought I would check. It should be easy enough to post to both if needed.

I'm asking because... Being the over-achiever that I am ;) I have some pages done already (my intro, instructions, sign in). I know, I know, what a nerd, right? :)

Actually, we are just starting to build a house and the next month or two might be crazy so I wanted to get a quick start on things so I don't miss the June 1 mailing deadline. I really wanted to do this, so I am trying to get a good jump on things. I'll post the 2Peas link sometime this week, and let me know if you want me to post to the Yahoo group too.

we are in the middle of the same thing too - but I will be lucky if our house is done before the circle journal!
I would say post at twopeas and link it the yahoo group (in the links section) because I have come to find with other groups that they don't give you enough photo space for allthe pages and in 2peas you can make a specific 'album' for it.

You are not a nerd - or of maybe I am too - I got my cover and binding done yesturday! Started the intro pages too!
That is what I like about the Cj's too a lot of interactive stuff I don't do in my regular scrapbooks!

When you first get to the group, there is a message at the center of the screen saying you are not a member of the group. So those are the intro pages for your book? Very cute! I wish I could read what you wrote, since obviously YOU know what you're doing here;-)

mla973
04-11-2005, 09:16 PM
LindaBabe - Yes, those are my intro pages. I made a one-page title page, two pages on instructions, and four pages of sign-ins. I have yet to make the pages of my own theme though.

So, just for you, here is my text from the instructions page, if you think it will help you. Honestly, I spent a lot of lunch hours reading online and especially checking out 2Peas. I've never done this before, so I hope I have done okay.

Instructions:

Welcome to Megan’s Circle Journal about our favorite Disney words. I hope for this to be a fun and creative way for the group to get to know each other and share our love for Disney.

There are so many things I love about Disney, that it was very hard for me to pick a theme. I finally chose “Favorite Disney Phrase” because I thought that would cover all the bases, so to speak.

Find your phrase from a Disney movie quote or song lyric, WDW attraction script or theme song, quote from Walt Disney or anything else you think relates to the topic. I don’t want to stifle any creativity here, so do what you feel is best. It doesn’t have to relate specifically to WDW, just something Disney.

Please choose your favorite Disney phrase and make it your page title.

I just have a few simple rules for this circle journal.

1. Please create at least a two page spread. (There are extra protectors if you feel the need for four pages, but don’t feel like you have to create four. Just keep them in even increments, so each participant’s pages face each other.)

2. Follow the theme to any level that you want. I think it would be fun to use the phrase as the title, but if you want to include the whole song or quote instead, feel free to do so!

3. I don’t mind the use of any embellishments like eyelets, brads, ribbon, etc., just please don’t include anything too bulky, since there will be lots of pages in this small book.

4. Include your first name somewhere on the layout.

5. Last, but not least, please use at least one photo on your two-page spread. The amount of journaling, detail, etc. will be left up to you.

Sign-in

Please sign-in using the tags on the next few pages. Choose a tag and fill out the following information: First and last name, DIS user name, hometown (city and state where you currently live) and your favorite WDW attraction. Please use your own beautiful handwriting and include a photo of yourself!!! Liven it up any way you wish.

Thanks again for participating!

Carrie - Don't be scared - I think it's just the paper. I actually really like what came out, and that's not always the case with my pages. I don't go back though, just try to move on to the next one.

I honestly did a lot of research on 2Peas, and my cover page is somewhat of a scraplift from a design I saw there. I'm really into bright colors mixed with the walnut ink right now.

I can't wait to see what this group is going to do! I'm actually flattered that you all like it so much. I don't share my LO's that much (especially since it's a pain to photograph, crop, resize and then post a description on 2Peas), but I've been scrapping WDW vacations for years. It's one of my favorite hobbies! No, it IS my favorite hobby.

Thanks for the compliments - I really do appreciate them. I can't wait to see your work too! :Pinkbounc

I do have to say, even if mine is a little simpler than others, books with mixed contributers are awesome. I did a book with the in-laws where we each did 2 to 4 pages and mixed them together. It really was cool. (The process was torture, but great end result.)

I think you're almost there, angelmom. Just go back in your siggie to edit when you paste the URL and preceed it with , then end it with

I was trying to figure that out the other day, but haven't pushed the issue. I figured I'd wait until PattyT got back & find out if she wanted to coordinate both or if we need to start separately. Either way it's good for me as there's no way the 2nd group could start on June 1st. I could use a bit more time - that's really one of the reasons I waited too long to sign up for the 1st group....I wasn't sure I could get it done by then.

I think we should start a separate thread. Interest in a 2nd group is getting lost in this one. Shall we start it now, or wait until PattyT gets back?

mickeyschickie, there's another thread somewhere that piratesmate started for the circle journal group 2 sign-ups. She's got 3 signed up so far, so find that thread and add your name to the list. I know piratesmate will be glad to have you join in. I think that group will get started the first of July. Hope that helps!

Well, I have my book. I just need to think of something really cool. At least I've been able to get the juices flowing again. I actually scrapped about 10 pages this week. Not journaled, but it had been a while since anythign had made it to my books. So, it's a start.

Okay - I think I am ready to mail my journal, although I won't send anything out until our deadline, since I don't know our mailing order yet!

I've gotten my page done in my theme, but I don't think I will post it. I sort of feel like I want people to be surprised. I do want to post my entries into other's journals (as not the whole group will see them), so is anyone opposed to that? I won't be posting the whole journal, just my page of your theme.

Anyway, better get back to work. Hope you all are having a great week! (Our snow has melted, so we're back to a little bit better weather here in Michigan!) :Pinkbounc

Megan - IIRC you can post things on 2 peas, right? I would post a link here saying whose journal it's in. I'd love to look at the pages in other people's journals, but I'd want mine to be a surprise. JMHO, but I hate to find Christmas presents early too!

Well, not much activity this week! I guess we have all been out enjoying spring???

I have started to get into the 12x12 frames (to make a page as a shadow box gift) and altered mini clipboards (as a gift for a 4x6 photo). Just more things to spend scrap money on!!!

Plus, have you seen the new KI paper!!!! Incredible!!!! :Pinkbounc My LSS just got it in this week. There appeared to be 5 or 6 new lines. Love it!

Also, just submitted something to get a price quote on a Disney cruise for next year (we have never been). I'm excited just to hear back.

Hope everyone is having a great week. :earsgirl:

dizney-cruiser -

No, the price quote I am hoping for was based off of something I saw on mousesavers.com. I am thinking we might do the four night cruise (why do they call it four nights when it's really like 3 1/2 days???) Anyway, the price listed was $399 each for a cheap category room. We've never cruised, so I don't know what to be picky about at this point. The prices are for February 2006 (I think).

My first choice would be the cruise with stops at Grand Caymand and Cozumel, but if we got a good deal, I figured I couldn't be too picky. I think the 4 night stops at Nassau and Castaway Cay (not sure if it's once or twice).

I have yet to investigate much on the DIS, because I don't want to get too excited since it's not definite. I wanted to try and surprise my husabnd with it, but I got too excited and had to share with someone so I told him. I thought if 4 nights seemed short we could always go down a bit early or stay a bit at the end to do MK or DTD.

I'll let you know what we decide!

(My mind is already reeling with possibilities of a Disney cruise scrapbook!!!)

What a hoot! That sounds like such a cute idea!

I did this with Pal Mickey that I shared during a swap a couple of summers ago. I took pix of him at It's Tough to be a Bug! with his 3-D glasses on, and also at our pirates party with a patch over his eye.

flat stanley is a kids book - i think they normally read it in the third grade - and then a lot of teachers have them send flat stanley to relative all across america and take pictures of him in differnt tourist attractions of their state
