My sister, brother in law, and nieces (4 and 6) will be going with me in October. I've been kind of checking some flights for them and the options from the Bay Area to Orlando are not that great. So, what are the pros and cons of these two options for a cross country flight.

Option 1: Morning flights that have one stop and arrive in Orlando anywhere from 5-8 p.m. Average duration from time getting off the plane to time arriving in Orlando about 7-8 hours.

Option 2: Evening flight to LAX and then a non stop red eye out to Orlando. Arrives in Orlando around 6:30 a.m. I will be flying out the day before so, they will at least have my hotel room to crash in for a bit.

Now, the selfish side of me wants them to take the red eye as it will allow another full day with them. However, I do need to think of what's in the best interests of the kids. I don't think the girls will be afraid to fly at all.

I would recommend the daytime flight. We also live on the west coast and have done a red-eye (with our two nieces in tow) and we were pretty tired the next day. Actually our nieces seemed to be ok for the most part but we (the adults) weren't. Your sis and bil might feel the affects more than the kids. Of course it all depends on how well they all sleep on the plane. They might be fine. After our experience with it we have decided red-eyes just aren't for us though.
