Has anyone gone here to build a bear? What does the average bear cost? I'm thinking of getting gift cards online and bringing the kids here to get a bear as a souviner.

LOVE Build A Bear! Every month there are specials. If you go to their Website buildabear.com, you get to see the stuffed animals and their prices plus all the specials. Clothes & accessories are a separate charge. On a personal note, I really am not a stuffed animal person...in fact, each time my kids get a stuffed animal, I would think "great, another yard sale item to sell"....but BAB bears the exception to that! I had my DDs 5th birthday at DTD BAB. It was GREAT!

Love BAB also! A basic, without clothes or accesories, "bear", (they have more than bears) can run you from $10 to nearly $30. They have a wide selection of outfits (most being from $10 to $20) and stuff. My kids have several BAB's and most have fallen into the $30 to $40 range, which seem about average for a mid size bear with one outfit, The cheapest was a dog with a Happy B Day banner and hat for $20, but beware....you can easily spend more. It is more than worth the price, at least once, for the experience of making and customizing your own furry friend.

The cheapest bear starts at $10 and goes up from there. The clothing also starts around $10 and goes up from there. You can spend anywhere from $10 for a "nekid" bear up to over $60 for a fully accessorized bear. We've had DD's last two birthday parties there, and it can get out of control VERY quickly.

Okay so I'm thinking a $35 gift card for each of my two little ones should be okay. If it goes a bit above I can just chip in the extra. I like the idea of getting the gift cards in advance so I can prepay some of the expenses.

Thanks everyone!

Our tradition is to take DD to BAB for her birthday (only 2 so far), since they give you a "birth certificate" with the date. I am so psyched they have one out west too!

We went to the Build-a-bear at Downtown Disney in California. DS (16 LOL) got a stuffed monkey just because he wanted a souvenir. It was pretty funny.

If you go, the downstairs level is really crowded. Go upstairs, it has the same stuff but people don't realize that you can build your bear up there as well.

Blndiebby - not sure if you have Walgreen's drug stores where you are but our local Walgreen's has BAB gift cards ($25 I think). Might save you the shipping costs of ordering online.

I know there is a BAB in West Edmonton Mall here (or will be) but I am not sure I would be able to use these gift cards from here to use down in the States due to the exchange rate. Anyone know?

Just thought of one other bit of info that not everyone knows. In the dressing tables, where you try on outfits to find the perfect fit for your little buddy there are small drawers. Inside are small "ear bows" designed to fit the ears of the stuffed animals. They come in several colors to match the outfits and are free for the taking. DD always grabs a handfull for her bears and herself, as they are small and tend to get lost easily.

They also have a frequent buyer program:if you spend a certain amount, you get gift certificates...not sure how much, it's been awhile since we've gone, but I'd ask about it when you're there.

Yes, they have cards that they stamp. You get one stamp for each $10 you spend and when you fill up the card ($100), you get $10 off your next purchase. I have a full one in my purse just waiting to be used.

We have a bear in our living room that we dress up with a different outfit for each holiday.

Does anyone have any pictures of the special Disney outfits that they have at DTD BAB?

Well I guess this is kind of related, but I live in Kansas City and the Royals baseball team here has 2 games this summer where they are giving out build-a-bears on specific days for free to kids. I know they did this nation-wide at all ball parks with the beanie babies. Check and see if your local team is doing this too.

I don't have a picture but they are the Disney Child's Costume in "bear size". They have Aurora, Belle, Buzz, Snow White, Tinkerbell (we have that one)...that's all I can remember. I'm drawing a blank now.

They also have one with a Mickey Tee(I think it's like a mouseketeer shirt)with Mickey gloves and Mouse Ears! The Mickey set is only $10!

I am not sure if you have a Target store near by - but they also sell add ons for the build a bear - in case you want to change/add things later.

I thought I read somewhere that they had build-a-dolls too w/costumes and different coloured hair/eyes at the DTD build-a-bear shop. Can anyone confirm and maybe what the price for those are. We LOVE that shop in the mall almost as much as the Disney Store!! :>) Also, can you use the gift card they sell in the mall stores at the one at DTD too?! Thanks ya'll!!
P.S. Disney costumes they have that we've seen are: Belle,SnowWhite,Aurora,Jasmine,Cinderella,Mulan,Ti nkerbell,Woody,Buzz they run about $15.99 at ours in Wa.

I can confirm that they do have the dolls, as well as outfits for them, at the BAB in Downtown Disney. I have no idea of the cost as DD was not the least bit interested in them. Also not sure about the gift cards being excepted in all BABs, but I don't know why not. I would check with my local BAB to be sure.
