View Full Version : Help Coming for the Vero Beach

Some people have commented about how narrow the beach is in Vero. I found this article about plans for dredging the beaches in the area. I'm having trouble following what areas they are talking about but our resort is really closer to Wabasso than Vero Beach....and Wabasso seems to have some offshore reefs that are creating problems for getting permits. It sounds like help will not be immediate but they are aware of the problem and are trying to correct it.

For an idea of beach erosion -- there are pictures in the Ocean Grill Restaurant in the heart of Vero (roughly 1940's) showing a large beach area in front of the restaurant. Today, the restaurant is on pilings where the water rushes up. They even have a joke predicting how soon they will be "in" the ocean.
Interesting.... thanks for the link, Pam. :)
Is there good scuba diving around those reefs, I wonder? Or is it too rough? Hmmm....

That's what I was thinking. I actually know nothing about scuba diving but I have seen divers near the resort and right off the coast near the Ocean Grill.

I've seen divers right off of the Vero resort. How wide do you need for a beach? Unobstructed view out into the ocean as your sitting out on the beach? Wide enough to walk up and down it? I have never seen it too crowded to enjoy the size of it. I'm not sure I see the big advantage over a much wider beach. It's actually a sorter walk to the ocean and easier to keep track of our kids. At the same time plenty of room for them to run and dig and play.

CaptainMidnight. I actually love the beach at Vero. I've seen people comment that they feel cheated by the oceanview rooms because they don't see the beach. (??? I can't imagine a more beautiful view.)

We were at VB in June, we were told they were booked through the 2nd week of July and we still had all kinds of room on the beach. It didn't seem crowded at ALL!!! LOved it and wouldn't change a thing.
