I read on another board that the Power Rangers will be added to the MGM stars-n-cars parade. Please tell me Disney has not stooped this low...

Fortunately for my son, YES, they have... or so I've read! :cool1:

I can't stand them, but kids still love 'em. My dnephew thinks they're awesome. Isn't WDW mostly about making kids (of all ages) happy?

I am here now and on Monday I saw the Stars and Motorcars parade and I can confirm they ARE part of the parade!

From allearnet.com:

Power Rangers Storm Into Disney-MGM Studios

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The newest members of the star family at Disney-MGM Studios have stormed into the theme park in a big way, as five generations of television's Power Rangers have joined the daily "Disney Stars and Motor Cars" parade.

The popular stars from ABC Kids' Saturday morning, ABC Family's JETIX morning and ToonDisney's JETIX evening lineups, the Power Rangers patrol Hollywood Blvd. in a customized classic car -- a sleek, black roadster with lightning bolts streaming from the hood and a giant fan arching over the trunk.

Five generations of Power Rangers, consisting of Time Force, Ninja Storm, Wild Force, Dino Thunder and Space Patrol Delta Power Rangers, are featured with the parade's futuristic float.

The JETIX lineup of action-adventure programming is seen seven days a week on the ABC Family and ToonDisney networks.

I'm a Raider fan, but I don't think they belong in the MGM parade, if you get my drift.

As far as I know, the Raiders are affliated with Disney? :confused3 I don't get the analogy.

I think RaiderMatt's point is the 'affiliation' with the power rangers is pretty flimsy too - only that they show up on ABC kids, or whatever.

But take heart, Matt - the Raiders occasionally play on ABC's Monday Night Football, so they may make the parade as well!

I think for me I'd rather see WDW feature more Disney-originated characters as opposed to a string of popular franchises that Disney acquires. (I'd also like to see Disney create some more memorable characters of their own but that's a topic for another thread) I absolutely LOVE the muppets, but for me even that's a stretch - as is the Star Wars affiliation, although keeping them in the movie-themed park makes it less distasteful.

Within the context of what the Studios have become (synergyland)

The power rangers are a perfect addition. And from a practical perspective, since they have them, might as well use them. The real problem is that they bought them in the first place.

I agree! They seem very appropriate to be in MGM, in my opinion. It's not like they stuck them in AK or something. They fit the theming of the Studios.

My only point was that whether or not we are a fan of something, we need to separate that from our opinions on what is right for Disney. (yes, the record is still broken)

In the sense that they have been in movies, ok, I guess they fit, if that's the only requirement.

But really, compared to the rest of the characters in the parade, they are a second tier property. Disney animation is legendary, though admittedly not every single movie is a hit. Pixar is heading for legendary status, and everything they've done has been a huge success.

Star Wars? Certainly a first tier product.

Only the Muppets are a grey area. But they have been around for some 30 years or so now. They've had their own attraction for years now, have had multiple TV shows, have had at least 6 major motion pictures, and Kermit is one of the more recongnizable characters out there.

The Power Rangers don't quite have that kind of wide following or reputation for quality.

The real problem is that they bought them in the first place.

Well, yeah, then there's that.

I want to be really clear. I am not by any means or stretch of the imagination a Power Rangers fan. However, I completely understand why they would incorporate them.

Mostly, it would be because of their popularity with younger children. Secondary is that they fit with the theming. The problem with the idea of only using "first tier" or Disney animated characters is that they are running out of new stuff quickly.

Regardless, if you look at the demographic these characters are aimed at, you would probably see them as "first tier" in that capacity. Hey, I have no use for Star Wars and it certainly isn't "first tier" in my opinion but I can appreciate the demographic it appeals to and see that it fits the theming.
