I'm sorry to even post this but I just had to know.....
My DH tells me that Disney has Dabbled in the porn industry in the past. Is this true? I think that he just tells me this just to burst my bubble about Disney because I love it so much. To me Disney has ment nothing but innocence. I would hate to believe this is true, but DH keeps insisting it is true. Please tell me it isn't so!

I thought I read some blurb years ago about one of Disney's acquisitions including the movie company or cable channel "Eros" ???? or something along those lines. Disney quickly divested itself of whatever it was.
Couple years ago the preshow teaser for a 60 Minutes/ 20/20 type news show was ranting about GM being in the porn business. Sounded very dramatic, but all it was about was one of their spinoff companies -maybe Direct TV- offering a porn station with certain subscription packages.

I cant remember the specifics, but I believe Plus4206 pretty much has it right. If I recall correctly, Disney aquired the company unintentionally as part of another trasaction and move very quickly to get rid of it.

Let's look at three of my personel favorite movies...
In the Little Mermaid [the original] the statue that Ariel would admire Eric on was shaped like the male... manhood.
In Snow White [the original] the dwarves noses and eyes were seen at the foot of Snow Whites bed, indicating that they were watching her as she slept, not a good sign. Can you say peeping tom?
The Lion King [the original] as Simba and Nala are playing in the leaves, when the leaves settle it spells out the word "SEX".
now the original simply means before the newer versions were made, either DVD or VHS...
Three prime examples, need I go on?

Anyone who is determined to find images of male members and words they consider "dirty" in imagery like clouds is going to find something to complain about. It's a lot of crap. Disney has never made porn movies, never will make porn movies.

So then let's look at the facts that are stated rather than the myths:
Disney produced an animated film called The Story of Menstruation.
Photographic images of a topless woman can be spotted in The Rescuers. Sound familar?
http://www.snopes.com/disney/info/rescue1.htm
Lemmings were induced into jumping off a cliff for this Disney nature film.
One of the castle spires on the cover of Disney's The Little Mermaid home video was deliberately drawn as a phallus by a disgruntled artist.
http://i.xanga.com/CrapMagazine/mermaid%20*****%20cover.jpg
The letters S-E-X are formed by a swirling cloud of dust in The Lion King.
http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/lionking.htm
In the film Aladdin, the hero whispers, "Good teenagers, take off your clothes." - This can be heard, when Aladdin is attacked by Rajah, watch the film again.
In a talking Lion King book, Rafiki chants, "Squashed bananas up your ****." - It is said that the tracks ran together and formed this, why would it just "accidently" form such a disgusting phrase?
Again just a few, true, rumors...

***"Anyone who is determined to find images of male members and words they consider "dirty" in imagery like clouds is going to find something to complain about."***
Did you look at the "Rescuers" cell ? Is that something us Christians fantasized about ? Pretty hard to misinterprete..... wouldn't you agree ?
*** " It's a lot of crap. Disney has never made porn movies, never will make porn movies."***
I agree. I'm certain Disney never MADE porn, but I know there was a brief connection years ago. Maybe if DancingBear gets a chance he can use his great research skills and bring us the facts.
Just as a side note: In HM, one of the singing busts in the library always remind DW and I of Richard Cranium.

So, does this mean that if teenagers have sex, they will make babies, who will then be taken to WDW and the parents will buy a ticket (entry) a balloon and a mickey ice cream? Is this the diabolical plot that Disney has been conjuring up since I was a pup?

This is not true. The letters are SFX and were placed there by the special effects department that animated the swirling cloud.
In the film Aladdin, the hero whispers, "Good teenagers, take off your clothes." - This can be heard, when Aladdin is attacked by Rajah, watch the film again.
This is also not true. You only hear that because that is what you are looking to hear.

I appologize if my post has caused such a contravorsy.
I know we've all hear about all the little "OOPSIES" in the Disney Cartoons, and that is in no way what I was talking about when I asked the question about Disney being associated with porn. I do however believe the posters who mentioned something about one of the channels that Disney is associated with having something to do with porn. That is more along the lines of what I was looking for.
By the way...

I don't think you have to read into things to see that Disney is not "innocent". I'm not talking about seeing things written in the clouds of animated films or playing the soundtrack at a slow speed to hear a cartoon character say something inappropriate. There are very blatant examples of Disney being, well, unDisneylike. One that comes to mind is a short animation starring Donald Duck that was produced during WWII as military propoganda. Nothing like a gun-totin' duck to say Disney!

At the risk of fueling the utterly ridiculous fire, if you read Disney War, it confirms that the Animators were certainly NOT above a little gutteral baser humor. Often at the expense of managment. (Eisner & Katzenberg) This stuff didn't make it on film, just little doodles done internally, but still.

no, it certainly isn't, and they've done more wrong then right in the recent past, but come on. with a few exceptions like that Rescuers frames (2 of them that you never see unless you know they are there and go through frame by frame.) most of this stuff is absolutly false as pointed out by Snopes. despite that fact, the rumors are still being perpetuated here.

I have read the book you are refering to, and Disney OWNED a porn pay-per-view channel called "Spice". They also owned shares in a company that made porn movies. Disney did not actually make the movies,, but they profited from them. They also owned shares in a record company that made Satanic heavy metal music. Personally I like heavy metal...but not the type that this company made, ex: references made to killing parents and blood rituals. Definately not normal stuff.

Amazing that in using snopes to back up some claims that are true (e.g. the unfortunate lemmings), you completely ignored the links on snopes debunking your claims regarding Rafiki ( http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/rafiki.htm), Aladdin( http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/aladdin.htm), and the Little Mermaid cover art ( http://www.snopes.com/disney/films/mermaid.htm)...
What's even more incredible - in an amazing coincidence, the text you used to highlight these rumors is the same - word for word - as the headlines on these snopes web pages...
So all you really have is the two frames in the Rescuers, the SFX/SEX confusion in the Lion King (labelled as unconfirmed by snopes), and the lemmings (which is unfortunate but not sexual and therefore not pertinent to the issue of whether Disney did porn), and an educational short on women's health.
Yeah, that settles the issue alright... :sad2:
