Some tips, courtesy of the New York Times. :)

*Choose plants with just one or two open or partly open blooms, and three or more puffy, unopened buds of different sizes.

*Choose plants with an abundance of dark, rich green foliage all the way down to the soil line, a good indicator of an active healthy root system.

*Remove the yellow anthers before the pollen starts to shed. When a mature flower starts to wither, cut it off.

*Avoid Easter lilies displayed in paper, plastic or mesh sleeves. Plants deteriorate if left sleeved too long. Also avoid waterlogged plants.

*Easter lilies prefer moderately cool temperatures in bright, indirect natural daylight, but avoid direct sunlight.

*Keep them moderately moist. Water the plant thoroughly when the soil feels dry to a light touch.

We have some plants in our garden. As I was growing up, my dad had planted a bunch of Easter Lilies, and they were right in front of the house, so as I had seem the blossoms, I knew that Spring and Easter was near.

Thanks, having an Easter Lily is a tradition in my house, we just bought ours today, one with lots of big fat buds.

mommytotwo, around here in Ohio, the ones outside don't bloom until the summer! For me, I'm lucky if I get 2-3 years of outside blooming from my Easter lilies. Alas, for me, they don't seem as striking or fragrant outside, I really prefer them in the house, and at Easter.

A trip to my favourite garden centre yesterday, and I didn't buy one Easter Lily! I did however, buy 2 mophead hydrangeas, one blue and one pink, and 2 lacecap hydrangeas, also a blue and a pink. A pot of blue hyacinths, and a little brown stuffed bunny that squeaks (for my niece and shopping helper :sunny: ), rounded out my purchases. The pink flowers are for family, and the blues, for me!! :)

My best wishes to all the Buds, for a very happy Easter! :)
