Two weeks from now, we will be on the airplane!
I'm starting to throw things in suitcases. Looks like I may have to rethink some of the clothing, though. The recent trip reports that have been coming back are reporting cloudy and cool weather. I'll start checking the 10-day forecast in a few days. Hope we get sunny skies. :sunny:

I haven't been checking the weather, but I hate to hear your report amesmom! I am hoping for clear skies all the way. We will be leaving for the airport in exactly 2 weeks and 1 hour! :cool1: I am glad we are not having a transamerican flight like some of our group! I can see where the two weeks would be justified. Everyone have a great Friday night!

Two weeks from now I am hopefully having my rematch at Buzz Lightyear with Leslie (DisneyPinDiva) or enjoying a Dole Whip :thumbsup2 or maybe a sandwich at The Earl of Sandwich....

Question on the weather. Are the trip reports saying that it's cloudy the whole time? Last year we did the eastern a week earlier than we are doing the western this year. The weather in florida was chilly, as was castaway cay. We actually wore our jogging suits on castaway cay!!! But St. Martins and St. Thomas were HOT and the sail dates were HOT. I was expecting jacket weather in Florida and Key west, perhaps a bit cooler at Castaway Cay, but I thought for sure our 2 sail dates and Costa Maya/Cayman Islands, would be warm!!!

I couldn't really figure out what to send dh.. he doesn't drink so beer/wine were out.
Oh good - after all the early talk of :drinking1 in this thread, we might need a designated driver!!
I'm not likin' this weather talk. We did DCL & WDW a week earlier in 2004 and it was really warm, mid-80s in every port & Orlando. I NEED to thaw out!
Great photos everyone! You are all actually real!

Just a reminder! If you are staying in a hotel prior to our sail date, you may need to book your shuttle! We are staying at the Radisson at the Port the Friday before. I just called to book our shuttle to the ship that morning. I read somewhere on here that if you wanted to get to the ship early, to make sure to reserve your transfers 2 weeks in advance. And guess what, THAT IS WHERE WE ARE!!! WHEEEE!

Keep in mind that the trip reports I read were from mid-February and we will be there mid-March. I'm sure the weather is getting warmer as we speak. :goodvibes
Today's Weather: Key West-79 and sunny
Grand Cayman-82 and partly cloudy
Costa Maya- 86 and partly cloudy
Bahamas-79 and cloudy/windy
Sounds good to me. I'll take it over the 25 degrees we're going to reach here today. Even the DISers who were reporting back on the rainy and cool weather didn't let it dampen their spirits. Pun intended.
Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait.

Hi Morticia (Mortlives)
I was reading through my trip tik from CAA and found the following:
Dear Member
US 19 in West Virginia - Some information for you to consider; we've directed you through Charleston WV, along the toll portion of the I79/77 route, instead of taking you on US 19.
Presently, the US 19 is not recommended because of excessive speed enforcement in the area of Summersville WV. This route will add about 75 kms of interstate highway to your trip.
CAA Central Ontario recommends you pay close attention to variances in the posted speed limit, especially in the area of Summerville WV, if you do decide to use the US 19 route. CAA encourages you to drive safely and responsibly by observing speed limits and other traffic safety laws.
I have also heard that the police/state troopers are targeting Ontario and/or Canadian vehicles.
I am going to look at the route they suggest and decide closer to when we leave....I'd sure hate to start off my vacation by getting a ticket.
sk8ingmom
02-26-2006, 01:18 PM
speeding ticket + vacation = not fun!
We ended up with 2 speeding tickets on our last WDW-DCL trip! I got the first (and still only) ticket in my life on the way to school the morning we left (I taught a morning class then met DH & kids at the airport). Then DH got a ticket driving from the port to WDW. Hadn't budgeted for that $260! :scratchin
On another topic - I'm thinking about booking the Chacchowhateveritisben ruins tour in Costa Maya with Native Choice, lots of good things said about them on the Dis. Is anyone else planning to do this?
On yet another topic - 2 weeks from right now I plan to have a cheeseburger in paradise and a margarita in from of me. As my DS5 with a minor speech impediment would say, "This is the yife". :cool2:

Hi, Elaine.
Thanks for the warning. We've had the same warning from CAA. The first few times, we took the detour to Charleston, WV, but the last few times we have gone through Summersville. So far, we have observed the speed limit, and haven't had a problem. I've never heard it said that the tickets aren't legitimate, so I don't think it's a problem as long as we keep it legal. And the scenery is gorgeous. Much better appreciated when not barreling down the highway at a million miles an hour.

Can anyone tell me about the rainforest room? When and where do you book it - I didn't see it in spa reservations - did I miss it? I have read a lot of messages about it and that it is cheap but have no idea what it is. Thanks. I went out this weekend and bought a bunch of clothes for the trip for my kids - not needed but yet so much fun!

otoole, the rainforest room is in the spa area. You dont need ressies for this. You can sign up at the spa reception desk. I didnt even know it was there the first time i cruised. and the second, i found it toward the end. It is basically a self serve spa. there are heated tiled loungers as soon as you walk in. And there are several different rooms with different aromas and they are either dry sauna or steam. My dh and i love the eucaliptus(sp) room best. It is tiny but man, it will clear your sinuses quick.HTH

otoole...you definately do NOT want to go to the Rainforest Room ;) ;) It is the worst place on the ship.;) ;) It's hot, steamy, claustrophobic, no view, and it's exhorbitantly expensive. ;) ;) It's not on the spa list because no one really likes to go there....;);) Besides.. I believe all the heated tile loungers have already been reserved.......:teeth:

Anybody else read the thread about kids bad behavior?? It really got heated and the moderator closed it. However, there were a few good things to keep in mind if you've got small children. The most important tip from the thread was to try to keep the kids on a schedule if at all possible. Overtired kids=meltdowns=cranky parents. :crazy2: I'm just hoping we avoid too many meltdowns during the trip. My two DSs alternate between adoring each other or trying to kill each other. :scared:
So, if you see someone on the cruise with two angelic boys, that's us. If you see someone who looks suspiciously like me, but with two monstrous brats, it must be my evil twin.

amesmom, I read a little of the thread. I didnt dare to post though!! It got the same way on the should you pull your kids out of school thread. Man, people get so testie when it comes to their kids. Im lucky, my kids actually do travel well. Im hoping it will be easier on their bodies this time since we wont be changing any time zones. We have always come from CA, and now we live in Va, so im expecting model citizen behavior :teeth: . But just like Amesmom said, if they are acting like hooligans, they must be HIS kids. When they are good, their my boys, when their bad, their his. Thats the way it works right? :confused3 ;)

Happy Birthday Leslie pixiedust:
I've also been pre-packing. No current need for shorts, tanks and short sleeve shirts for us, so I washed everything this weekend and made 'outfit' piles on the guest room bed. DH is on his own. I'm hoping to get everthing but undies packed this weekend, do laundry after work Wed. and off we go!
I saw bad things in the OP of the parenting thread that was closed - just sat back and waited for it to get ugly...
DH & I are mean parents, DSs have to follow normal rules of life, even on vacation! I'm a little nervous how this will play out with MIL traveleing with us. She doesn't like us correcting/disciplining the kids when she is around. She likes to interrupt and say things like "It's OK", or "They're just kids". Never mind that they were extremely strict with DH & DBIL when they were kids. Must be good to be the Grandma!
Sorry...mini vent!
So here's my question... It seems like many of you travel in 'family groups". How does it go? I'm getting nervous. I've never vacationed with anyone outside my immediate family (even as a kid). I LOVE MIL & FIL - I did great in the in-law lottery, but we are very different personality-wise. I'm pretty laid back, don't freak out about much. MIL can be very intense (she'll also be everyone's best friend 10 minutes into our deck party!). OK, I'm having one of those days when I just need a :grouphug:

sk8ingmom....sending a :grouphug: your way....
About travelling with a "family group"....when we went on the May Repo cruise....we travelled with approximately 385 Dis'ers....a few knew each other but many of us "met" on the boards and our sailaway party was our first face-to-face meeting with people....we had so much fun...it was like a family wedding. This is the cruise that I met Leslie and Joe on and we have been friends ever since. It is really fun to see a familiar face when you walk down the hall or walking down the street in a foreign port.

Maybe I can take a stab at this. Honestly, I love my mother.. however, just like most people, she is also the person in my life who gets on my nerves the most. My father - as much as he is a really great guy, well, he is my dad and I still consider him to be the stick in the mud (yes, I know, he plays in a band so I am crazy right?)
Anyway, I have taken vacations with them since my daughter was 3. We did Disney World twice and the cruise last year. We stayed in rented condos and 2 bedroom suites together. Last year, we all shared a stateroom. This year, we have connecting rooms. It is a lot of together-ness.
However... they are grandma and grandpa. And they love their granddaughter to death. And she loves them. And the joy they get to experience by watching her on these vacations, is worth it. And she is so happy to have them there with her too. When I want it to be just us, they leave us alone, and when I need a break and want to spend time with my hubby, they are there to watch her for me. It works out well. Not to say we haven't had a moment or two, but, maybe it is just the relaxation of the vacation or whatever, we seem to get over it quick.
I love traveling with my family. I can't imagine leaving them behind anymore. Even though we are all completely different, we have so much fun together. And these experiences will be unforgettable. I always figure, there will come a day when this won't be possible to do.
I hope you really enjoy yourself!!!!

This will actually be the first cruise we have gone on since having kids that someone from our family hasn't gone with us. We have been on two previous cruises with DCL and on the first we had both sets of parents and my sister and her family. We had a very good time. I would suggest that you make it clear that everyone will have their own time alone and have family time together. That was the biggest problem for us. Our parents wanted us to be together all the time. On the second, my cousins and their daughter went. That trip was not so great. They really don't have the same discipline philosophy as us and we were miserable with their child acting horrible (examples would be following Pluto around pulling his tail and not one word from either parent, coming to dinner and taking her shoes off and then running around the dining room). On the other 5 cruises my MIL has gone. They have been on Carnival and Princess and it was great having her there. She liked to come back to the room after dinner (late seating and the late shows and my kids liked to stay with her) so the two of us were able to go and do things together. It is sometimes challenging because you have more people to please, but I am with KCarl the memories are priceless. We are all kinda bummed that she isn't coming along this time. My daughter and her share a room and they think that is awesome. They call each other "roomie" the entire cruise. I know my kids are never going to forget the times they have shared with their grandmother on those cruises. I think you should just relax and it will probably go much smoother than you expect.
I actually got my suitcases out this past weekend and even started going through clothes. I got most of my door signs completed and got my pillowcases ready for the transfers. :Pinkbounc I am really hoping to have it all finished by this weekend so I can relax all next week and actually get on the ship rested rather than worn out! I always bring too much stuff! My MIL comes with one small bag and one hanging bag and we have suitcases popping out the windows of the van! This time it's going to be different...Have you heard that before?!
Looking towards the 10th when the final school bell rings more than I can even say! pirate:

Remember to tell them in the dining room that it is his birthday. They will do something for him. We were on the Carnival Conquest last year on DS birthday and the counselors from the youth program came by during the night and decorated the door and even had a little gift for him. It was great. Different cruise line, but I am sure Disney will do something nice too. :goodvibes

A general question...I've read elsewhere that we can bring our own alcohol and water onto the ship. Is this true? If so, how much are we allowed to bring on? Is it better to carry-on or put in the checked luggage? :scratchin

:welcome: Welcome MTH and Family!!! :welcome:
You are gonna LOVE DCL!!
Regarding St. Patty's Day. Since it is CC day.. and our last night... my guess is that the Pub Night that night in Diversions will be Irish themed. The last Pub Night is not to be missed. The Cruise Staff usually does a little skit and it's almost always hilarious. Sorry.. it's just for adults... but it's a blast!!!
MTH: Yes.. you can bring your own alcohol :drinking1 (http://www.disboards.com/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)and H2O on board. If it's glass bottles, I would recommend to carry it on since you never know if it will make it thru luggage handling. Plastic bottles should be okay to put in checked luggage.
DCL does have a beverage station on Deck 9 with pop, coffee, tea, milk etc. There is also a filtered water dispenser... if you only bring a few bottles of water you can always refill them there. You can request ice twice a day from your room steward, and there is a "cooler" in the room that holds a few bottles.
Good morning!
DisneyPinDiva...thanks for the info! I think we'll just bring a few bottles of water then (less to carry!)
Even though we did not get the "snow storm" they were calling for last night, it's cold and wet and I'm getting very anxious to go! My son asked if we could start packing after school today...so today we start the "big pack"! :goodvibes

Hey MTH - where are from? Just curious.
I bought a few Alaska post cards yesterday to fill out with our name/address etc. to give out in case we make friends on the cruise. Then I had a thought...(rare, I know!)...would you all mind bringing a post card from where you live for me? I decorated my guest room with a "travel" theme using post cards and photos I've taken on our vacations and cross country moving adventures. It would be cool to have some new post cards to add to the room.
We'll be on a plane this time next week!

:crazy2: :scared:  I need a real vacation. Before it was "I am excited about the whole cruise experience"... now it is - I HAVE TO GET AWAY!
My kids wake up in the morning and sing how many days are left!! I love it.
I so hope this is the vacation I have built it up to be. I read all these cruise reports - and I hope I'll have the same great memories (and less complaints than some!) In fact - I am going to steer clear from all complaints for the week. Venting and complaining will be for losers at work! :lmao:
Looking forward to St. Patty's day as well! :shamrock: Guiness anyone!?

You know it. All three of us are in that boat. (Oops, didn't actually intend the pun, but, hey, it works.) All I have to do is finish what I'm working on before we go, and everything will be smooth sailing. I must confess to feeling a bit at sea about it all, though. Still, in the meantime I can find safe harbour here. After all, any port in a storm. Still, don't want to make waves. This may be a tender subject for some.
Please don't kill me. I just really need a vacation.

About the pins...you might want to ask Leslie...DisneyPinDiva...she is pretty familiar about pins....and I'm not sure what "special" type of pins might be on our cruise....it's not like our Repo cruise we took last May....we waited in line in the hall overnight for the special pins and then some people put them up on ebay!!!!!!!

I know this has been discussed but, can you openly walk on the cruise with say a case of beer??? :drinking1 or should we be more discreet??

Looking forward to meeting all !!! :bounce:

Soft drinks at the station on deck 9 are free without having to buy a mug. We're bringing mugs from past stays, so we don't produce a lot of unnecessary garbage. Also, that way we can spike the mugs before we leave the room. :teeth:

I would be a little more discreet with the case of beer...:rotfl2: I put all my beverages in a rolling carry on size suitcase. Yes, they see what it is at the x-ray station and no one has ever said anything. I have never brought on beer though... mostly wine and other hard stuff. :drinking1
No prepaid program any longer!! The soft drinks are FREE up on Deck 9 at the beverage station now  They are NOT FREE at the bars though.... so you have to make the trek to deck 9 for the freebies. Paper beverage cups are available there, with lids, straws etc. The beverage station has 24 hour coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, and the normal array of soft drinks. (Coke products of course) There is also a nice selection of pastries each morning for the early risers... and cookies around 3pm. Believe me you are never wanting for food or drink while on board. :thumbsup2

Jennifer...I am glad the pixie dust worked for your son! :sunny: There is definitely something going around. My DS started having a sore throad over the weekend so my husband took him to the doctor on Tuesday (he said he was feeling better Monday) and it turned out he had strep throat. He hates the medicine, so that is a battle twice a day. The nurse told him one shot would take care of it all, but he would rather take the TERRIBLE tasting medicine than have a shot. I would have taken the shot in a second! :teeth: We are really watching my DD closely to make sure she doesn't start showing any signs of anything.
I loved reading all of your SHIP WIT! You are really funny! :lmao:
I will be happy to pick up some postcards in the airport for Houston, if anyone wants one. That is a fun idea. I am with Leslie...I had a man from one of the other threads send my DD and DS a postcard to my husband's work. They really turned out cute. He signed them from some of the characters and said something to the effect of how excited they are that we are going to sail with them. We are going to give them to the kids next week before we go. People are for the most part really nice and helpful, but you can never be too careful in this crazy world! :sad2:
I am looking forward to getting on a plane in about 1 WEEK and 9 HOURS! I am excited about meeting all of you too. I feel like a know something about each of you. :grouphug:
Are there any other Andy Griffith fans out there mourning the loss of "Barney"? I have loved that show since I was a little kid. It has always been one of my dad's favorites and we would watch together. When I am at his house and it is on, we still do. Definitely one of my favorite childhood memories...sitting with dad and laughing at Andy and Barney. I LOVE Ron Howard still!

I am REALLY confused about the alcohol policy. I cant find anywhere that Disney actually addresses this question themselves. Some people say they don't really care as long as it is not iced, others say they smuggle it in, others say they just walk right on board. Also the cooler question, Disney does state no coolers unless medically needed, but many people talk abour bringing the rolling softsided ones without ice and stockes with beer. So I am really confused. We bought two rolling softsided coolers, and plan to stop at a grocery store on the way to the ship to stock up and then carry them on, but I really don't want them to be taken from us!!!
DisneyPinDiva
03-03-2006, 02:19 PM
I really don't think Disney would take anything from you... unless of course it was a weapon or something dangerous...;)
I have heard of other cruise lines confiscating bottles of wine etc... but I have never had a problem bringing anything on board with Disney. I have never used a cooler though.... but others seem to have used the softsided ones with no problem. I just think they don't want those big hard sided ones.
Has anyone ever called and asked about bringing beverages onboard??
Has anyone ever heard of anything being confiscated? Perhaps a question on the general thread is in order.... but watch out for the flame throwers....:rotfl2:

So DH has a nasty cold right now. What's the general opinion on Airborne? Does the stuff really work? I'd hate for the rest of the family to catch DH's cold right when the cruise is to start. BTW, DCL will let you on the ship with a cold and the sniffles, right? Ug, its 3:30 am and I just woke up with a terribly stuffy noce and a sore throat! My whole family has been passing around strep throat now for over a month and I thought we were done! My hubby went to the dr. for antibiotics last weekend and I have been literally spraying EVERYTHING down with Lysol, using hand sanitizer like crazy, AND making everyone take an Airborne a day! But now I feel terrible! Looks like "I" will be the one at the doctors office on Monday morning BEGGING for meds!
Airborne is AWESOME! I had it with me last year when my daughter was sick on the ship. She passed it around to us in the room, but the Airborne kept us from getting it too badly, and I think it got her well faster!

All I want to do is pack, check in online, make my pillowcases, etc. and relish the last weekend before the trip but before I can do any of this I have to finish writing my class's report cards. I always dread report card time, but this year I hate it! I really shouldn't even be posting but desperately needed a break. I keep telling myself the cruise will be that much sweeter knowing my report cards are finished but the truth is school will be far from my mind either way.
I discovered last week a forum on disney designs, has anyone seen any designs around Disney cruises? I would love a design to iron on my kids pillowcases.

DisneyPinDiva...thanks for the info on the meet. Even though I'm only 1-week new to the board, this is a great place and it'd be nice to meet people in person on the ship!
I did some final shopping today for the trip...some body jewelery, tatoos, and stuff for St. Paddy's day :hippie: ...my son also found some tatoos for the pirate party and we picked up a couple dozen to share with the friends he meets in the kid's club pirate: .

MTH...at first I thought you GOT tattoos today...the permanent kind...not the temporary ones!!!!!!!
In the past when I've dropped off my pillowcases, I have included a black Sharpie marker....I know they never used it the first time as all the signatures are in different colours but the other time they were all black.

Good Morning Everyone!
OToole...I feel your pain. I can remember hours upon hours of writing out report cards! Our district went to online gradebooks this past year and now they print out for us once we enter the grades into the computer and export them. It has been a mixed blessing though, as we can only enter our grades into the system while we are at school, so we are there even later! I do think it beats writing out those cards. I am sending you some pixie dust to get through it! pixiedust: pixiedust:
MTH...sorry to hear about the tooth. I think a bad tooth ache is up there with child labor pain! I hope you can get some relief soon. Maybe they will work you in during the week so you don't have to suffer on the trip. Toothaches do not add up to vacation fun!
So many sick people out there. We have gotten over the strep throat around here (atleast I hope I am not jinxing it now!) I haven't tried the airborne, but might have to get some to try now that I hear all of your praises. I am keeping my fingers crossed that all gets well by Thursday and even have Friday as a cushion day!
We went to see Raven Symone at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She put on a good show. She is extremely positive to the kids and her message to them seems really genuine. You can be the best! We actually enjoyed it and my dd was in heaven! We saw Hilary Duff last year and she was good too. It is fun to watch all the tweens get so excited.
Tammy, sorry you won't be with us. I am sending you my thoughts! Hope all works out. :)
I am packing today while watching the Andy Griffith marathon tribute to Don Knotts. My hope is that by 5pm when I have to be at church that everything is packed and the science fair project my daughter has due tomorrow is finished and in the car ready to go to school. She has been working on that project since January and now the big unveil is about here! I didn't think it would ever end
:dancer: :dancer: :welcome: aboard Terrie! Glad to have you!
I didn't order anything from DCL, but I am going to order from Shirley. I have read wonderful things about her. I am going to order a basket for my kids to share upon arrival and then something special for my ds for his birthday Thursday. He took his first steps at WDW on his first birthday. I can't believe that has been 6 years ago already! It goes by too fast!
See you Saturday! Can't believe we are so close! :cool1: :cool1:
I'mWong...I agree with your pain rating! :rotfl2: although my dentist does not do root canals and the endodotist she sent me to can't do it until after the cruise, I did finally find someone who is going to fix this thing on Tuesday...so it should be all good for the vaca!

I'm done packing for me and DS...my husband can't believe I have a whole suitcase to myself (we usually pack light :))...oh well, he'll get over it, I'm sure! Only things left are toiletries and meds on the last day...yeah!!! It's almost here! :cheer2: 6 more sleeps!! :woohoo:

I called and they are really helpful in getting what you want in the basket. If you go to the main cruise line discussion board, you will find a thread about her. I don't know how to direct you there with a link, but I am sure you will be able to find it. I just looked and it is still on that page.
Glad you found someone to do the root canal for you early. :thumbsup2

Wow I missed 3 pages this weekend! You guys have been busy. We spent the weekend at various hockey practices & DH & I went to the "Musher's Ball". The Iditarod started this weekend. It is basically an excuse for a 2 week party because we still have a LONG TIME before summer. We, however, have 4 days until summer! :thumbsup2 I'm so excited! Three more days of work, then off to FL.
We are basically packed, and have a crazy three days at work ahead of us.
See you guys soon!

Hey, Wheres Leslie with our Good morning Cruisers update :confused3
I just got off the phone with Shirley, and she is just the nicest person ever. I did a basket for each of my sons and one for Ben. They each know about the others basket but have no idea about their own. :teeth: Im a sneaky one.
Kc, Hope your homeopathic remedy worked!! :lmao: . I went to my gf house for dinner last night and had my own medicinal concoction. An Incredible Hulk. Ever heard of it? Its Hypnotiq with Hennesy...mmmmmm
My dss are feeling better, but my dh feels lousy. I think id rather have the kids be sick than HIM. I was glad to get invited somewhere for dinner. :lmao: . Daddy needed some alone time to rest anyway!
Im really gonna start packing today. Really I am!

Castaway...thanks for making the description of Shirley clearer. When I went back and read what I wrote, I guess I didn't really explain who she was or what she did. What did you get in your basket for your kids? This is our first time to order from her.
SK8ting mom...I bet the mushing ball is a blast! I am hoping the new Eight Below movie will be playing on the ship. We have been so busy we haven't had time to see it yet and I really want to.
Kcarl...hope you are feeling better. I always say, whatever it takes to get the job done!

I called dcl and 8 below is playing on the ship. Dont remember what else is.

Im with kcarl021, I wont be wearing Lime Green but based on our roll call, we wont be hard to find with the two blonde teenage daughters, we will definitely be carrying the "Coronas".. Limes in hand!!..haha :thumbsup2
I hope everyone gets over all the ailments I have been reading about.....I dont want to jinx us, we have been fine....the worse thing has been keeping the 15 year old off the snowboard, she broke her arm in two places last year just a couple of weeks before we went down to orlando, spent months in a cast from the shoulder to the wrist in an "L" shape. They wouldnt let her on a couple of her favorite "Coasters", she was not a happy camper and no "Swimming"....so we dont want a repeat. :guilty:
My husband almost died on Saturday, all three of us went to the Hairdressers and had our "do's" done including highlites and such, when I told him the bill, he told me that would of been 33 hair cuts with tip for him :rotfl2:
Counting down :hourglass
:hourglass Wow...time is ticking! Can't sit still!!!! :yay:
Anybody else have the week an extremely busy week, or is it just me?? physio on Monday; root canal on Tuesday; waxing on Wednesday; manicure/pedicure Thursday;drive to the airport on Friday...plus my regular job! Phew!...hehehehehe not that I'm really complaining, cuz most of the things are vaca-related! :thumbsup2
BTW...is anyone else from the Windsor area? :fish:

I have a crazy-busy week also - nothing as bad as a root canal, but also nothing as enjoyable as a mani/pedi! Tonight - hockey, cub scouts and karate class. Tues. - I have to work late and present at a borough assembly (like county commissioners) meeting...come to think of it, I might opt for root canal given the chance, everyone else has 'church school'. Wed. - of course it is the school science fair, finish packing, and we need to leave for the airport @ about midnight. And oh- yeah, I have 3 days to do 2.5 weeks of work!
For everyone who doesn't like Corona, I believe "flamable beverages" were also approved for the sail away meet-up. :teeth:
I got me a bright green sundress, so I'm ready! It is awesome, I ordered it online. The description just said 'green'. I like all shades of green, so I bought it without looking at the color swatch. Imagine my delight when it arrived DIS green! I'll be really easy to spot. One big & 2 little crew-cut-conservative guys and me in bright green!
Choople - Gosh, I'm the only girl in my family, can't magine how much bank you dropped at the salon, but it sounds like fun! I have long hair so I only hit the salon about every 3 months. DH choked at the price once, then I pointed out that my 4x a year cut and color at a day spa was WAY LESS than his WEEKLY haircut at $15 a pop!
No sickness yet in our family (for the love of God, everyone knock on wood now that I have said that!), but I'm sure someone will pick up something during our 15 hours of planes and airports. kcarl - How often do you think we will need to re-coat ourselves with Lysol??

Count us in! DH (43), me (40.5....celebrating the big 40 a smidge late), DS12, DD10. My kids are so excited I'll be amazed if they sleep at all this WEEK! Been reading lots of great tips....THANK YOU, EVERYONE!!!
My kids want to do everything in the lab....I'm so used to having fun WITH them that I may need to sneak in the lab to see what all the fun is there....but then again, everyone says it won't take me long to be lounging by the pool alone and enjoying it just fine!
Can't wait to meet you all!
sk8tingmom-sounds like a busy week for u too! We have karate 2 nights this week for DS, but DH is has the duty tonight, since I'm working late at the office (well, between posts, I'm working :))...oh, and I don't mind public speaking, if you'd like to switch up :lmao:
Maybe I'm naive, but what is a "flammable" beverage?
Choople...I'm the only female in my house (unless you count my yellow lab, Jazz) and I have to lie to my husband and tell him I'm working late. It's not the money so much (of course, I'm not paying for 3!), but the amount of time it takes me to get my hair done...and no, I'm not getting my hair done tonight (cf. working late reference above!)...I really am sorta working
lv2cruise...I too am not sure how I'll handle not having my DS with me for the whole vaca, but he warned me yesterday after church that he wants to make new friends when on the cruise, but he'll "try" to spend some time with me and his dad everyday... :sad2:

YUP, just call me M! It's not that I think you are stalkers :rotfl: it is actually what people call me! You see, about 30% of the girls born the year I was are named Michelle (my real name) - another 60% are named Amy & Lisa, in case you are wondering! Every class, team, or group I was in throughout childhood had at least 3 Michelles. A friend started callling me "M." in about 8th grade and it stuck. My parents even called me M.
well...just finished the on-line check-in. Predictably, my son is having a hard time falling asleep tonight, as I'm sure all of us will this week.
Sk8ingmom...Well, at least you like public speaking...I can't say the same about root canals! :lmao: And I got that "flammable beverages" were "happy" drinks, just didn't know if you meant the kind that you actually light on fire, like some of the shooters I've had... ;) :thumbsup2 ...guess that's what I get for gettin' in here so close to the cruise-time and not thoroughly reading all 30-something pages of posts :confused3

DD came home from the park screaming about her ear. I should say hysterically crying. I rushed her to the doctor - and she does indeed have an ear infection. She's on antibiotics now - and asleep. Doctor says she should be back to normal by Thursday. :cheer2:

Made my order with Shirley today. Everyone is right, she is soooo nice and eager to please you. I know my kids are going to "freak out" from excitement when they see the basket. I wanted to order something for my husband too, but since he doesn't drink and isn't really into sports, I couldn't think of anything for her to put in a basket for him. :sad2:
I for one HATE public speaking. I can talk to kids all day long, but when I have to talk to the teachers in our school in a large group, I get really nervous. I get over it in a few minutes, but those initial 10 minutes are terrible. I actually have to do a big software training on the 29th and I am already getting nervous! I need the cruise to work up my courage! :lmao:
Leslie...thanks for the evening update. We missed you this morning.:cheer2:
I hope everyone's days at work "sail by" smoothly!! :goodvibes I have a few things left to pack and I will be ready to hit the airport. We could only get a 7pm flight (due to the time I get off work) so we aren't even getting to Orlando until pretty late.
:cheer2: :welcome: Lv2Cruise! I know what you mean about spending time with your kids. We have been on about 8 cruises and for the most part, we all stay together, but my kids are really excited about the DCL kids clubs, so we will have to see what happens.

I keep finding more and more clothes to buy and more and more things I want to pack! I have told my hubby to keep me OUT of the stores! Of course, I bought my daughter several new dresses already and then I found ANOTHER one yesterday. My mother is cracking up, at this point, my daughter will have to be in a different dress every few hours, just to wear them all!!!
Ok, so you all HAVE to check out these videos of my dad's band and my mother just dancing away! Go to:

I've been packing most of my things today, finally. I have the DSs almost finished and DH is on his own. Of course, his suitcase is empty. He will pack Friday morning before we head to the airport. He travels constantly for work, so he's pretty much on autopilot when it comes to packing. He needs to remember to pack some vacation clothes, though.
I guess I never told you my name, which is Lori. I can just see us walking up to each other at the DIS meet and saying hi, you must be Amesmom, etc. :rotfl:
I'm just the opposite of some of you about the clubs. I'm just hoping the youngest DS takes to the clubs so DH and I can get some alone time. He didn't like going last time, but was only 3 at the time and hadn't started preschool. I'm not expecting the same problems this time around. Oooh, I'd better knock on wood now that I said that. :rotfl2:

Well, I certainly hope you're in the same boat as me. :rotfl2: Sorry, couldn't resist. Need a vacation.
DS8 is also considering moving down to the 5-7 group, but not to be with his brother. :rotfl: He's just afraid he won't get any time to play on Captain Hook's ship since they spend almost all their time in the lab with the 8-9 group. But I told him we can play in the club all we want on the first evening during the open house time. There is also a campout in the club later in the week. That seemed to be enough for him, and I think he's decided to stick with his age group. He may still change his mind, however. I've heard DCL is somewhat flexible about changing to a different age group, especially to be with a sibling. I hope that's true.

Ha! I am taking most of the photos and videos, so none!
The only thing my daughter talks about is going to the clubs. Since we are traveling with friends, she even thought that maybe the other little girl won't want to go to the clubs. She asked me if that happened, could she go anyway???
When I asked her last year if she wanted a Disney World or Disney Cruise vacation this year, she picked the cruise. Her reason was because of the clubs!!

Just read a couple of apges of messages - girls you've been busy. My name is Tracey (otoole is my last name) - realised like amesmom that a first name might be helpful.
Castaway Stowaway - I too can't believe that we spent $215 (US$$ for us) for the Hyatt the night before - and yes still hoping Hotwire posts before Friday - if you see something please let me know and vice versa. Of course we are flying Southwest and of course I was dinged every hour through Dec and January and have received nothing for the cruise dates so I am not holding my breath.
Disney Pin Diva - you know all and yet now that we are writing about beer/wine/margarita tasting you are quiet!?! You are holding out on us I am sure :rotfl2: ! Okay talk about priorities I was checking out a navigator and saw that they had all three tastings in one day and some times conflicting I believe and found myself questioning if I could manage to visit more than one in a day - probably could but equally likely that I wouldn't make it to dinner and to pick up my kids from the club - not a good plan - so exitied the navigators and figured I would face the decision once aboard.
We went to Disney last year for March Break and LOVED IT! Although we bought a pack of six beer and I think shared one because we were so exhausted at the end of each day that we were in bed with the kids each night. So like others have mentioned I am looking forward to some "Mommy Time" although also know that I am my own worst enemy and will probably begging my kids to spend time with us since that is what family trips are all about after all. :)
I posted a question on the general forum and haven't heard much does anyone here know? Question: Can you book stingray city once we dock at port with a company? - our son (6) wants to do it, our daughter (4) we are uncertain about and would prefer to see and wait the day of - we have to book non-disney since the disney excursions cut off at 5 years old.

Another day of work... racking up the extra $$ for Cruise "stuff" Yes, I'm still shopping as well... although not having much luck!
NOW... as for the wine/beer/martini/tequila tastings. They have tons of them! You can book it once you see it in the Navigator. They run about $12-15 per person. We did the Martini tasting last cruise. I had NEVER had a martini in my life until that time. Now I can't get enough of them. Hmmmm... somewhere I have a picture of us after the 5 martini's in 30 minutes...... let me tell you it's not pretty.....:rotfl2:
Tracey: I would imagine you would have no trouble booking a Stingray City tour at the dock. Captain Marvin is who was recommended to me but I know there are others also. Just be careful, I've been told that sometimes there are scammers who sell you a "ticket" and it's worthless when you show up for the tour.

I can't believe I'm actually watching TV the night (well 7 hrs and 15 minutes) before we leave....usually we are running around packing all the "last minute" stuff!!!!!
Mickey&JoshNut...YEAH! How exciting! I wish I was officially done work and leaving now too... ;) . My son just keeps getting more and more excited and animated talking about the trip and it is infectious!
sk8ingmom...thanks...the pixie dust seems to be working...the mouth feels grrrrrr8! :woohoo:

Finished my pillowcases for the boys. They turned out really well. Thanks for all the advice on how to do them. It was all I could do not to show them to my DSs, but I'm trying to keep them a surprise.
I'm supposed to be working on a church project due tomorrow, but I'm so much more interested in our vacation. Almost done with all the packing. Just washed the last load of laundry today, then I just need to add the toiletries on Friday and we're out of here!
And I gotta say Airborne rocks! DH has had a miserable cold the past few days, so when I had a sore throat and started sneezing this morning, I started gulping down the Airborne. I feel great. May have dodged a bullet there. Thanks for the great advice. :thumbsup2

I'M DONE WRITING MY REPORTS!...I'M DONE WRITING MY REPORTS!...I'M DONE WRITING MY REPORTS! I just finished after a long day (my class had projects due on european explorers today so we had a banquet of good cheer all afternoon in costumes with skits and all and then I had to mark the projects before entering their marks on the reports).
Now I can pack! but first shop! - I have had things out for the last week but nothing in bags yet but tomorrow night I am going to go out and buy a few things for me (don't tell my husband). I have been "picking up" things for my kids for a month and now like some of you, I have purchased much too much. The problem with buying things over time is that you forget what you have purchased. As I put clothes out on the extra bed in my son's room I realised that every piece of clothing I am packing is new for them and there is no way they can wear it all. Now starting to think that I haven't been paying off the cruise but rather the shopping sprees attached - keep telling myself that their spring and summer wardrobes are complete. Anyway I haven't gotten anything for myself except for a new bathing suit - yes I did the unbearable and went bathing suit shopping - so tomorrow night I am going out after the kids go to bed to "pick up" a few things for myself.
My son is desperate to see the fourth Harry Potter movie that came out on DVD today (even though he saw it at theatres) so I told him we will get it on Thursday night and I can pack in front of the TV. My kids are so excited they have been waking up early and want to sleep together Thursday night (the night before we leave).
Tomorrow I have to print up the transfers for their pillowcases and bind their journals (a surprise).

Otoole...we did the stingrays last time we were in Cayman with a company called Moby Dick tours. They were fabulous! We had booked something else and then our ship arrived late and we missed them, so we picked Moby from the pier and couldn't have been happier. You shouldn't have any problems.
My principal told me today that I have to write a grant by Thursday at 3:00! That really stinks! I wanted to do as little as possible this week, but I guess that is out! Will make the next two days fly by though! The problem with grants is that you write so many, but only get funded for so few. :sad2: Oh well, with the budget cuts in education, you have to get money where you can!
See everyone on Saturday. For those of you leaving tomorrow or Thursday, God's mercies in your travels and I (Laura) am looking forward to meeting each of you. :goodvibes

my hubby went BACK to the dr. for more meds today, and I am on a Z-pack. I am coughing like crazy, but apparently that is normal. HOWEVER... I asked the Magic Eight Ball if all of my family, and ALL of my DIS friends would be reasonably well for this trip and the answer was "YES!!!!" Not "ask again", not "it is certain" but a resounding YES!!!!!
The magic 8 ball NEVER lies!!!! :worship:
I SERIOUSLY can't wait to meet everyone!!! All of a sudden I am freaking out about meeting you all. My best friend Heidi and I are both 32 (pushing 33) and my hubby is 28!!! Way young!!! Her hubby is pushing 40, however, my hubby and her hubby get along so well! My father is 54 and my mom is 53. I hope we all meet up and have a fabulous time together!!! I feel sorry for the people who are going and know no one! I feel like I know so many people already!!!!

I'm Wong - thanks for the tip re: stingray excursion. I infact checked out the Moby Dick tours website and almost booked with them after reading great reviews on DIS. I think we will probably end up doing that.
I know how you feel about grants - we don't have as many in Canada but I wrote one in November and never heard back so figured we didn't receive anything only to find out that we ended up receiving it only yesterday. It is for boys' literacy and I will have to track the grade five and six boys results on report cards and standardized tests for the next three years - now questioning how happy I am to have recieved it - a lot of work on top of my class.
The journals - at Mouseforless they have printable journal pages for kids. Most of the pages are for Disneyworld, however, there are a few for DCL - I am hoping at lunch today I can alter a few of the pages to fit our trip. I also sent a private message to "Nick&Josh'sMom" (I believe that is it) on the Discreative designs forum (it is something like that) and she made a cover page for each of my children's journals - they are beautiful with a pic of the magic and a cloud above in the shape of Mickey mouse in front of an old map of the western caribbean. She also made me designs with my children's names surrounded by Disney characters for their pillowcases. People are so nice! I couldn't believe these women do this for free! It definitely relieved some serious stress on my part since I had been playing around with designs for far too long and was coming up with nothing nearly as beautiful.

Ok so i told you guys i took him to the dr and they did a strep culture and the rapid test was negative. He felt a little better today so i took him to school. As i was walking in the front door, the phone was ringing and, yep, its the Dr. The overnight culture was positive for strep! So i had to run out the door and go back to the school to pick him up. The nurses office was already packed with sick kids! He cant go again tomorrow, since he will still be contagious. Man, if my son flunks Kindergarten because he misses too many days, Im gonna feel like CRAP! But what can i do? The boys got strep!!
The GOOD thing is that he is on antibiotics now and should be fine by Friday.
I am now the hand washing natze and have been running around the house spraying everything with Lysol. I took all the sheets off the beds and washed them. Wow. Miss a day and look at all the posts you miss. Here's hoping everyone is feeling better for the cruise. At least in the case of the strep throat, the kids won't be contagious after they start the antibiotics. And it's amazing how quickly they start to feel better once they're start on the antibiotics. We went thru the same thing with the strep coming back. DS8 had it twice, but amazingly DS5 never caught it.

I've decided the family is officially on vacation. :cool1: I picked DS8 up from his last day of school and DH is home, so no more work or school. The school has teacher conferences scheduled the next two days, then next week is spring break for us. We're really lucky, DS8 isn't missing any school for this trip so no homework to make-up. :Pinkbounc
Official start of vacation isn't until Friday afternoon when we board the plane, but I think we'll start now. We're having friends over tonight to plan our NEXT vacation. How nuts is that? I don't have an answer to the question about Key West, I thought the ambulance was for someone on another ship.

Nope! The ambulance was with the Magic. It was right up near the front end of your ship and the EMS, stretcher and lady came off the Magic and got into the cab. The siren didn't start until it got off the dock and into town...which is a good sign.

We're back. I'm so addicted to the boards, I just can't let it go. I will now be heading over to the theme park boards to plan our trip to WDW in late October.

We would have been so depressed coming off the ship, but we headed straight to Orlando to hang out at the Hyatt Grand Cypress on Saturday and recover from our trip. Then we spent Sunday at MK. We got back last night after spending 6 days at CBR. Weather was just as perfect as on the cruise. However, navigating the slushy 34F Anchorage airport parking lot in my flip flops was not fun! It's sorta depressing, this is the first time in 3 years that we haven't had a cruise booked.

Everyone back to their own private version of winter or spring? Except of course for the lucky ones in Florida and other southern climes...who are probably in summer. Here we only seem to have 2 seasons: hockey and construction...
I have to say 2007 seems awfully far away now. But, sk8ingmom, we're going to be staying at CBR for part of our great adventure. I haven't seen it since the rehab several years ago. How's it looking?
It was nice meeting everyone. I'm going to put the group pictures up when I'm at work next week. I'll probably post them to this thread so everyone can see them.
Did I mention exactly how pirate themed our cruise became? Before we got to Port Canaveral we stopped in St. Augustine, and went to the pirate stores in the hopes of booty. Then, in Key West we went to the Pirate Soul museum (totally rocks, by the way). Then we went to the pirate stores in Grand Cayman, and got some excellent swag. Then was the Pirates in the Caribbean party. On the way home, in West Virginia, we stopped at the Pirates Landing restaurant (you have to see this place). And of course, our beautiful car, Bella, had her many Jolly Rogers flying.

I came home to a snowstorm, too, but luckily the weather has turned more springlike since then. I'm easing the pain of vacation ending by working on our next trip, which happens to be an Alaskan cruise in June (so we'll be up your way, Sk8ingmom!). We wouldn't normally be doing two cruises in a year, but this is a special extended family event my father is taking us on. Sailingpartyof10 - I saw your pictures too! Feel free to PM me as you are planning your cruise. I'm pretty familiar with Anchorage, Seward, Denali (Mt. McKinley) and I work with the convention and visitors bureau and chamber of commerce in the county just north of Anchorage (Mat-Su). If you are doing any land-based stuff, I'd be happy to help.
This is killing me! For the first time in about 8 years I have no idea when our next trip will be. :confused3 We are planning a Hawaii trip next March while it is still "close", then we will move in summer of '07 so we can't plan much then - unless we move to Miami it would be completely out of the way to pop into WDW during our move - and Miami is pretty high up on my "dread" list! Fall '07 will be out since I won't have any vacation days yet from the mystery job I will have by then. I feel like Stitch on the monorail "When will we be there...whenwhenwhen??"

We thought he may have gone through the laundry with the sheets - that was an interesting call to Guest Services..."Yes, how can I contact the laundry people to see if they have found our monkey?" We ended up increasing our stateroom attendant's tip because she was able to find him...under the mattress of the ceiling bed.
I love the trip report board. There are some very talented writers: zzub, happyhaunt, vettechick, & lala's reports are all hysterical. I haven't seen any on the DCL TR board written in the humorous/rambling style popular on the WDW TR board, but I'm gonna do it! People may think I'm nuts, but it won't be the first time!

M - I loved your trip report so far....I was laughing so hard I was crying!!!!! I'm so glad to hear that Monkey-Do made it on the plane and that he was found in the stateroom....although it would ahve been a funny call to to Guest Services.....I too take some Disney friends along on vacation....my Dory Happy Meal toy and a small stuffed Mickey and I bought the little Cruise Mickey Beanie on the ship and our stateroom host had them in our porthole looking out the window.....and then on the last night they were holding the pen and survey cards....DCL's stateroom hosts are the best!!!!!!
Can't wait to hear the rest of your trip report!!!!!!

Sounds good! I'm sitting in cold Iowa (not as cold as Alaska) and wishing I had a Disney cruise to look forward to. Can you book the repo cruise yet?
Our kids would have to miss the beginning of school, so I think that's out for us. But DH really, really wants to do the repo cruise in May 2008. He loves the idea of going thru the Panama Canal. Kids would again have to miss school, but I might be willing to do it then.

We're going on the Aug repo because I figured the kids will miss less school. We get off the ship the day before Labor Day.
If we were still going to be in AK we'd go on the May repo. The kids get out of school mid-May here. But I have no idea where we will be living 6 months from now, let alone the school schedule, so I'm gonna pay my money & take my chances!
How've you been?

Wish we could join you, but I don't think my principal would go for that!
I lost one of my photo cards from our cruise. I am printing out the pics to make a scrapbook and I guess I lost it on the cruise. It had the entire first half of the cruise! That really stinks! I have no pics from the sailaway party or any of that stuff. Oh well, we are going back again this year, so I will have to just replace them for the next scrapbook!
Hope you are all doing well.

I'mWong - let me know if you want any cruise scenery photos - sailaway, pulling into ports, etc. I'd be happy to make copies of the photos I took that don't have my family in them!

That's awful. I have many pictures on file in fairly high resolution that aren't about us. If you want to pm me an email address, I'd be glad to send them along.
We can't go on a summer 2008 cruise either, since we've got DisneyLand planned for then.

YUP! See my sig! I got in early - we got a cat 9 for (cough, choke, sputter) reasonable price! When I looked an hour later, the price had jumped $2,700. I'm so excited I can't think straight. I leave for Hawaii in about a month & have't thought about that trip for a week!
Congrats Amesmom! I'm sure you'll have a blast.

You'll have a blast, too. We booked a category 10, but got one of the secret porthole rooms. Actually, compared to the spring break prices we paid last year (we booked kinda late), this cruise wasn't bad at all---relatively speaking, anyway.
I was admiring your writing skills on the EB repo thread. You wrote the "Twilight Zone" parody intro, didn't you? Looks like you'll have a great group to sail with.
We're going to Hawaii in a month, too. Maui. I also haven't thought about it all week.
Have fun

When are you going to be in Hawaii? We'll be in Maui 3/11-14 & Oahu 3/14-18.

Well, not as close to you as we had hoped, but still close. We were really hoping for Norfolk, VA, HOWEVER DH go orders to Washington, DC. We'll be living in VA, just not the part we wanted. None of us are excited about the whole DC thing.
