I have gained a lot of weight over the past few years. I have been trying to find a bathing suit and I can't seem to find any for pooh sized people. So discouraged I finally went on a diet and am starting to exercise. Hopefully I will lose enough to fit into my old bathing suit for my june/july vacation.

Try the Weight Watchers core diet. It is great! You will surely lose 10 pounds (probably more) by August.

I want to look and feel good too! Have 10 weeks to do it! I'd like to tone-up, so obviously that involves exercise. Yuk. The snow is almost gone here, so I'm gonna hit the trails. I was on the South Beach Diet and it worked great, but was too restrictive for me (I love bread). I'm still kinda doing that, but cheating occassionally (okay a lot).
I also know when I get to Disney, the diet is going to go out the window. I'm gonna eat my way thru Epcot! :)

I tried the south beach also for about a week but gave up b/c I felt it was to restrictive. I was thinking of starting again. Does it get any better?

I lost about 20 lbs in less than 3 months doing the following, which basically meant keeping your diet under 1800 calories per day. Believe me, once you get used to eating less it works. And exercise is great if you have time, but food is what really makes you gain weight, not lack of exercise.
My friend always says the best exercise is to walk away from the table.
Try these hints:
eat baby carrots or carrot sticks whenever you get hungry
Keep a plate of sliced cucumbers around for snacking
eat popcorn whenever you get hungry (low fat, or plain air popped)
drink water (ie. herbal teas or plain water)
make a nice big batch of vegetable soup and eat it a few times a day, this is very inexpensive and healthy, and really helps with hunger
Enjoy a low calorie rice cake for a snack
Try these things and by August you should lose that weight...

I find that I don't have to "diet" so much if I
1. limit my junk food~like eat only 1 or 2 cookies instead of half a bag, small scoop of ice cream instead of large bowl, snack size candy instead of whole candy bar, etc. I don't deprive myself if I really want something
2. drink water or tea (sweetened with Splenda) instead of sodas
3. exercising~ I do Pilates, Yoga, and walking. I do these at home at night. I have a great Walking away the pounds video that does 2 miles in 30 minutes.
Just doing these things has helped me loose weight.

I'm personally not a big fan of "diets" with names or organization attachments - I think it allows people to develop a crutch, and spend lots of money - depending on someone else to get them to lose weight. Most people who know me can't believe how much food I eat everyday. A main ingredient for me is I eat the least amount of processed foods possible. Crackers, fast food, junk food, etc. Eating whole foods, stuff you make, fills you up and you can eat more of it.
Eating too much does make you gain weight, but exercise is important...not for just losing weight but for keeping your body healthy and preventing (or keeping at bay) all those issues associated with being overweight AND not exercising, ie. diabetes, arthritis, heartburn, high blood pressure, cholesterol, general aches and pains...any familiar to you or those you love?
I know a lot of moms out there are saying, "I don't have time to exercise" or "its too hard to eat right with the kids, husband, friends, whatever"...believe me I have 3 under 6 and a spouse that travels A LOT.
You don't need to 1) deprive yourself 2)become a gym queen or 3) pay money to some organization, book club, drug company....to lose weight. What you do need, above all else is a goal and a little bit of support - get a buddy - and a desire to be healthy and look good.
To make this as simple as I can, the following has worked for me...and i believe in exercise...think of how much more stamina you will have lugging the kids, husband, and all the crap around wdw...
1) Stay away from drive through anything at all costs...even if the kids whine and cry about it...its not good for them either, really
2) If you need something fast, try Subway (get a big sand with lots of veggies and turdey on whole wheat bread and split it) or even TCBY (fatfree and nuts or fruit) for a quick meal. OR better yet plan, I know, plan on packing your lunch, snack whatever.
3) Find a good protein bar...ie. one that doesn't have sugar as a main ingredient. ZONE bars are good, can go with you, and are cheap. lots of varieties. Also, Balance bars too.
4) become a fan of apples...not red delicious...they are, really, too mushy. Find a favorite sweet, crunchy varietey like pink lady, or jona gold. Apples fill you up, get rid of sweet cravings and are just good for you.
5) Eliminate, yes, I said eliminate the items that really send you on a binge. It won't kill anyone...although I sure other members of the household with insist you are killing them...like or chips, processed cookies, processed cake snacks with any type of filling....if its hard for you ...read the ingredients...you won't even recognize half of them anyway...do you really want to eat that and give it to your growing kids? Pretzels, oatmeal raisin cookies, fruit and real ice cream (ie. breyers) for the kids are better alternatives...in normal amounts.
6) For those chocoholics out there, look for Healthy Choice Frozen Chocolate Bars....the taste is really, really, good and I usually have one every night when the kids go to bed. Are a real treat. Also, big fan of NO Pudge BRownies...not every day but once a week, when you have a splurge day, they taste better than "regular" brownies. And, Jello Sugar Free Chocolate Fudge Pudding with Skim Milk...have half one night, half the other. Low calories and a good source of dairy for the day.
7) eat breakfast...real breakfast. This jump starts your matabolism and keeps you going throughout the morning. I'm not hungry, you say...well maybe your matabolism is used to being sluggish and you need to get it used to breakfast again. An egg (cooked in mircowave, piece of whole wheat toast, slice of lowfat cheese, fresh fruit, cup of tea. High fiber cereal with skim milk and fruit. Yogurt and fruit. Whole wheat pancakes with blueberries (make big batch on sunday, freeze them) for you and family. Try topping with natural applesause or small (1 tsp) of syrup and turkey sausage (Shady Brook Farms variety...they will never know if you don't tell them, I swear).
8) Eat 5 to 6 times a day, really. Keeps your metabolism going and cravings at bay. I know, its hard to believe, but you have got to eat. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. I try to have: Dinner some type of protein (chix, fish, turkey, lean meat), green item (spinach, romaine, zucchini, broccoli), colored item 1/2 sweet potato, carrots, suqash, cauliflower - great mashed. Then if you want, your chocolate treat of choc. bar or pudding. Lunch, half of sand on brown something (bread, pita, roll) and med salad with vinegrette, olive oil, vinegar. Snacks, protein bar, apple.
9) Once a week I "go crazy"...my thing is pizza (with sausage and mushrooms), wine, and a pint of ice cream - real ice cream like ben and jerry's. Usually have waffles in the am, maybe order a sub for lunch, too. ONCE a week...but I must have done my thing all week. I have found that after time of staying away from fried foods and red meat for that matter, I don't deal with them well now, so I dont' even eat them on my off days...I'd rather spend my calories on ice cream or brownies!
10) Staying away from everything white...pasta (they make a whole wheat variety..and you will find you eat a lot less of it), bread, rolls, pitas, rice, and espeically potatoes. I went to a nutritionist once and she told me eating a white potato - or any variation thereof, is like eating a candy bar. Makes you wonder....
11) I Drink water, drink water, drink water. lemon in it if you have to. It takes something like 10 days to build a habit...this is one that will help you lose weight and keep it off. Also, its great for your skin. Its cheap. I only drink water and an occasional glass of OJ, and green tea. I know people are die hard soda addicts, especially for the caffeine....green tea has caffeine and other good stuff too. This is really hard for some people, but the calories in soda, sweetened teas, juices...it can average to over 500 calories a day. Just changing over to water is an easy way to cut calories.
12) The exercise...if you have never done anything before, or haven't for a while, you probably should go to a doctor or at least a trainer at your local YMCA. I weight train, yes, weight train 3 times a week for 35 minutes. Cardio, twice a week if I'm lucky, but ususally not so lucky...remember those 3 kids under 6? The weight training is the priority for me. Now this is me, and my research, and what most of those books out there are telling people: muscle burns fat. The higher muscle to fat ratio, the more efficient your body is at burning calories. With a right trainer, advice, one time meeting, you can get started on weight training that will help you lose weight and not 'get bulky'. And, unlike most women you see out there, I don't spend hours and hours on the machines. 25 minutes is usually what I can fit in. And like I said, twice a week if I'm lucky. If you want an easy way to increase you activity level, wear a pedometer. They are like $10 bucks. They count how many steps you take in a day...I think the goal is 10,000 steps a day for the average person. Go to the park with the kids, take a walk around the neighborhood. Go to your local mall early on a rainy morning, put on some headphones and go. Take the stairs. Do yard work... riding mower doesn't count. You are going to want to be able to keep going at disney anyway, right? Why not look better and feel better for dwd and beyond?
Lastly, some of you out there may be thinking, because I know how the world is, that I'm probably some little person who "can keep the weight off". Well, I'm not. I had a weight problem my whole life, lost too much weight in college, gained lots back after I got married, and finally, after my second child, realized that it is common sense that keeps us healthy and feeling good. I feel better when I eat better, but I love chocolate. I love ice cream. I love pizza. But I also like my knees not hurting, being able to carry lots of groceries, plus the baby, and wearing a size 8 (was a sixteen at the age of 14...). I found that its all about healthfulness, and what you want out of your body. Want do you want to do in 10, 20, 30 years? I want to be able to take my grandkids to wdw and keep up with them...how about you?

I just started a exercise program for about 4 weeks I guess now. I had not done anything really for about 6 years. Busy with soccer, basketball all the kids stuff. Well, I am finally sick of how I feel, much less look. I was feeling depression, heart racing some, always tired. I joined a gym and already feel better. Kinda of discourage that havent lost but 1 pound, but the success is in how I feel. It was either I was going to eventually be on pills for choles., high blood pressure, depression, or do something about it!!! So I figure I would spend the money in a gym rather than perscriptions. I really am out of shape, and doing the classes are a blast, but at 49 it takes me longer to catch on, but I am not going to give up!!!

I have lost 62 lbs since June of 04. I have 5 more to go before I reach my
goal by our trip May 10 05. It really boils down to math--calories in vs
calories out. I count my cals, writing them down (really not as tedious as it
sounds) I bring my lunch to work (lean cuisine, usually) stay within 1200 to
1300 cals per day (it's more than you think, if you are careful) favorite snack
Pop Secret 100 calorie kettlecorn bags. They have them at Target. Also
Nabisco 100 cal snacks (cheezits are my fave, and chips ahoy.) Buy yourself
a calorie food count book, and a scale that shows grams and ounces (grams
are more accurate, and labeled on our food products.) Back to lean cuisines,
WW smartones, Healthy Choice, etc...It makes it so much easier to stay on
a "diet" if you have variety, and the flavors you like..If I want ravioli, I can,
pizza, no problem, you don't feel deprived. I pretty much rotate the 3 brands with whatever my Safeway has on special for the week. I am REALLY close to
my goal, and here is my future plan...except for WDW of course, I plan to
pretty much "diet" six days a week, and one day do whatever I want..I have
a friend who does this (tonite is her Taco Bell nite), and I can assure you,
she looks amazing! I have also learned over the years that:
1) you can not do it until you want it bad enough. True..absolutely true..
2) there are so many programs out there..mine works for me, you may find
something different. some people like the "support" option, some like
regimen (ie atkins), some are like me. there is no wrong/right, it's all
about what makes it happen for you! GOOD LUCK!!!!

You've all got me motivated again!!! I just want to lose that last 10 but it seems to keep finding me.
I will be 40 at the end of the year and want to be healthier and look better than I did at 30.
I do a lot of walking, drink lots of water, and eat really healthy foods - just like you have all mentioned. I just think that my metabolism has come to a screeching halt over the past few years and that I need to get off my butt more and "kick it up a notch".
So...with that said....I'm signing off....going to eat my Light and Fit Yogurt for breakfast with my Light Multigrain English Muffin with lowfat cheese and then take a 2 or 3 mile walk.
Thanks for getting me revved up again!!!
Have a great day!!

I'm dreading going swimsuit shopping. :(

On January 3 I started watching everything I eat - nothing fried, no ice cream, lots of chicken and fish, veggies, etc. I also got totally off caffeine and soda - water, water, water. I also joined the YMCA and go 5 times a week. I have since lost 35 pounds and am half way to my goal. We're going to WDW in July and I'm going to look better than I have in 20 years! You can do it! :cool1:

There are three rules that really help!
#1 Never eat after dinner.
#2 Never eat in front of the TV.
#3 Before you reach for a snack, drink a glass of water instead. Then wait 15 minutes. If you're still hungry, have a snack, but most times you're just dehydrated, not truly hungry.
Good luck! :)

What I do as well, since at my job someone is always bringing in
food, if something tempts me, say pizza, I simply say to myself
"I know what it tastes like, not a revelation, don't need it"
Sounds silly, but it works, makes me stop and think if that
"taste" is really worth delaying my goal. I would much rather be
a skinny ::MinnieMo

Totally agree with Michvin,
it's all about common sense. Not that i should talk right now though. I just had my 3rd (and last) baby 10 weeks ago and I'm definetly the heaviest I've ever been. I'm wearing a size 9 and maybe that doesn't sound so bad to some people, but when you were a size 3 your whole life, it's hard to admit that you're not anymore! I know I can lose the weight, but IT IS HARDER than I ever thought it would be now that I'm older and have had 3 kids in the past 5 years.
I'm going to try to take Michvin's advise because I just want My body back! I want to feel good again. My goal is to lose about 20 lbs before our trip to disney in sept.
good luck to everyone trying!

Bugsy, You have done so good. Can I ask what you eat for breakfast? I guess I am going to have to start counting calories, etc... I just don't want to make it too complicated where I won't do it for long. I work at gym at least 4 days a week, usually 5. I have only started this for the last 4 weeks I guess, so maybe my body is in Shock and doesn't know what to do!! I feel better, but thought the pounds would come off easy, but I am older now. After 3 kids I really have a pooch, but I can tell those muscles are being woke up by the exercise. How did you keep from getting frustrated?

oklemom--I never said I didn't get frustrated! I am 47 :earseek: as of this
last February! I have gained, lost, gained, lost, over the last 15 years! Up

www.calorie-count.com click on tools, go to to page "calories needed for
weight loss" ALWAYS keep your activity level set at sedentary, that way,
you have the lowest possible figure. I still use this, and the calculator says I will lose the weight (last 5 lbs) in about 3 weeks.. this is March 25, we are
going on May 10, so if you were going on May 1, at a rate of 1.5 lbs per

I have tried every diet known to mankind (im 32) and I have hated all of them. NEVER EVER do Atkins. Oh man, that diet sucks. I think the CARB-FREE diets just suck as well. I mean, I tried the no carb thing, but you get so carb deficient that when you do eat something with carbs, you balloon up drastically. So I stay away from the carb free. Basically, what I do is FAT FREE/LOW FAT foods, and it seems to be working great for me, I eat and get full and if I want some ice cream, or a slice of pizza, I eat it. I always try to "splurge" once a week. Just keep it in moderation.
Here is what I do and I have lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am staying away from all BAD/FAT/CALORIE loaded things WHITE!
No SUGAR, BREAD, FLOUR, and PASTA! Big rule of thumb to me.
This is an example of my main diet:
BFAST- 2 FAT FREE WAFFLES, FAT FREE SYRUP, FAT FREE PARKAY BUTTERY SPRAY, AND FAT FREE MILK
LUNCH-FRUIT BOWL FROM WENDY'S (very yummy and light)
SUPPER- EGG BEATERS AND LOW FAT CHEESE GRITS
WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER
SNACKS--ORANGES, APPLES, LOW FAT GRAHAM CRACKERS, REDUCED FAT OREOS.
EXERCISE--WALK 2 MILES 3 TIMES A WEEK IN THE EVENINGS.
And the main thing is, if you fall off the diet wagon, dont get flustered, just get up, dust yourself off, and start again. If you truly truly want to lose weight, you will, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE DEDICATED.
Good Luck! :grouphug:

I too am a person who does not enjoy a workout but wanted to loose weight. I needed to loose 30-40 lbs so a great task laid ahead. I got the Atkins book from the library and read it and thought we would try it. Last Memorial day, my husband and I started Atkins. We did the 2 week induction (very hard to do) and both lost 10 lbs. I felt very deprived but we stuck with the program until the end of June. By then I lost another 8 and he lost another 5. Then I got the South Beach book and we did that for the month of July. I lost another 10 and he lost another 5.
Since last August, I kind of do my own diet which is a combination of both.
THE BIGGEST THING THAT HAS KEPT THE WEIGHT OFF IS ONLY HAVING RICE OR POTATOES ONCE A WEEK!
We now eat low-carb cereal or bars for breakfast, have a tossed, chicken or tuna salad sandwich for lunch (using only low-carb bread) and for dinner I will make a meat and 2 veggies. I make Dreamfields pasta (low-carb) twice a week. We only drink diet drinks and lots of water. If we want to have a "real" drink, I get sugar free cranberry juice and citrus vodka (0 carb and low calorie )and we make cosmopolitan martinis! Mikes Light is also good, only 1 net carb and low in calories.
Good luck.....you CAN do it!

I found a "diet" in Family Circle magizine date 3/8/05. You are eating @ 1,400 calories and it is based on energy dense foods (foods that fill you up).
I eat only whole wheat breads and pasta, lots of salads, soups, vegetables, and chicken or fish. Once a week I treat myself to one meal with red meat. I lose 2 to 3 lbs per week. I also dance on a Playstation dance pad every other night, it has a work out mode.
Last year I lost 37 lbs. following a menu that women that are diabetic use. I gained 13 lbs back. This year I lost the diabetic diet and so I adopted the one above. So far I have lost 18 lbs and I want to lose 6 more before we go to WDW at the end of April. After that I will continue to lose till I am comfortable with my weight. Hopefully by the time my 10 yr wedding anniv. comes in Sept. my DH  will have a new and improved wife :earseek:.
GOOD LUCK!

I've lost 13 lbs since the beginning of the year. I really haven't deprived myself of food; I've just eaten better. Cut out a lot of the high-fat foods and fatty snacks. Pretzels and fruit have become my best friends! Also, drink a lot of non-carbonated drinks (esp. Crystal Light) and/or water.

I just joined WW and lost 5.4 lbs the first week. I started at 166, so that is a lot for my size. Hopefully this second week I will lose 2-3, and after that 1-2 each week. I go to WDW April 30, so I hope to have lost 10 total by then.
Good luck! Mary
P.S. What is the WISH board - I will have to check that out

Congrats to all who have lost weight !
I love all the suggestions :)
I am in the loose 30 pounds category.
I work full time & have kids- so no free time for a gym.
I WILL drink more water, snack less and WALK during my lunch hours.
It's those kid snacks which are tempting around the house.
I also better put a picture of Mickey on the refigerator to remind me of my
goal. I do want to swim at WDW and not look like a fat moose.
May we all keep up of goals and get into that bathing suit :cheer2:

After I had my youngest son my husaband was off to bootcamp(AirForce).I decided that I wanted to get into shape while he was gone.I ended up losing 30lbs in about 6 weeks.Granted most of it was baby weight and that always seems to come off easier.
I didn't deprive myself of the things I wanted.I just switched my eating habbits a bit.If I wanted a piece of chocolate cake for lunch I would grab a chocolate Slim-Fast shake. If I wanted fried chicken and bisquits I would go for the grilled chicken and baked potato.I also started to drink ALOT of water. As soon as I felt like snacking I would drink some water and that would help curb my craving.
I started doing a 45 minute Yoga work out and playing an hour of DDR,every other day.I am not a video game nut but that game worked wonders.I just popped it in the PS2 and danced around(with the door closed so i didn't make a fool of myself).I really recommed that game is you hate to excersise like I do.

My whole problem is not that I am hungry it is the oral fixation I suppose, so what I do is keep some trident in the house at all times and I chew on it instead of eating snacks.. I eat out of boredom so I clean my kitchen first thing in the AM after breakfast and then I don't go back till lunch and then not again till dinner....If it is clean I should have no reason to go back until the next meal...Also if I need water I can get to my sink form my living room so I don't actually walk into the kitchen...
I think it is just a a brain thing!!!!
Good Luck

Honey..I've tried it ALL!! I've done diet pills (lost 25 lbs in a month..but they made me SO jittery I couldn't take them), LA weight loss (Loved the program..but you have to go in 2 times a week to be weighed and such), weight watchers (again..LOVED the program..lost 6 lbs in one week..but I couldn't make it to the meetings), The south beach diet, (better than atkins..but still too restrictive for me) SO..now I'm just trying to suck it up and exercise (I do at least 30-45 mins of cardio a day 3-5 times a week) and eat right. I LOVE junk food...but once you cut it out of your menu you'll find that you really don't crave it anymore. but you HAVE to let yourself have some of your fav things IN MODERATION or you will go overboard one day on fries! (Can you tell that happened to me!?) I"ve lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. slow but steady. GOOD LUCK!!
I want to join the wishes board...how do I do that???

Oh..one more thing. I learned this from a nutrionist..diet coke (my one guilt free addiction..or at least I thought) will actually SLOW down your metabolism. REally any colored diet or regular drink will. It's something about the caramel coloring. So..I now just drink water (2 liters a day) diet sprite and sugar free koolaid.

Hi guys,
As you can see from my signature - I am also trying to lose weight. My weight has varied dramatically over the last 20 years ( I am 37). Since Feb 14th I have lost 26 pounds (may be more as I have not weighed since Monday). I also have done every diet known to man. But the most success I have had is with Weight Watchers. I have attended meetings on and off since last year, but now I am doing it on my own.
My main motivator is my 20th high school reunion in September. I need to lose about 50-60 more pounds before then. I know I can do it!!!(think positive). The main thing I have changed is I try to walk at the track (outside) 30 minutes a day. If the weather is bad :umbrella: I have a Weight Watchers DVD that I exercise with for 30 minutes. My 10 year DD likes to exercise to it as well :bounce: .
I have found some of the WW muffins and snack cakes really help me. They are not many points (3 for the muffin and 1 for the snack cake). My sweet tooth is really bad and that has caused my failure in diets more than once. These two things really seem to satisfy both my hunger and my sweet tooth. :mickeybar
I also find that I need to drink alot of water. I try to use Crystal Light mixes as I really seem to get tired of plain water. The single serving packs are great for eating out.
Good luck to everyone in their endeavor to lose weight. We all need to be healthy so we can continue to go to WDW. :earsgirl:

For over a year now I have been going to the gym on an average of 5 days a week at about 2 hours a day. (There have been times that I have not made that goal but you know.) Well I have been slowly getting the pounds off until here lately.
My sister got me on this "Shape Works" program by Herbalife. It is some herbal tablets I take and protien shakes to drink. I am not the best on the shakes (they have a very strong taste for me), but I have been taking the herbal pills. They give you more energy and up your matablisim to help burn more when you work out. I have been on them for about 2 weeks now(when I can remember to take them) and I have lost 5 pounds so far.
We are wanting to go to WDW in the Spring in 2007. (far off I know) But I am going to Charlotte in May (family thing) and I am hoping to get 2 more sizes off my hips before I go. These pills are working for me.
Let me know if you need more information!

Hi all, I've been reading this thread over the past few days and think there are some really great tips. I am also trying to lose a few pounds, but mainly just re-training myself to eat better as I will humbly admit to falling back on convenience food a little too much. DH and I have been doing the South Beach diet for the last few weeks. We haven't adhered to it religiously but have stuck with it for the most part and have both lost some weight. I think it is definitely helping us to eat less (you can only eat so much protien in a day) and since we're both "carb addicts" it's a good thing for us to just get off of them altogether for a while. I find that sort of retrains my thinking as I realize there are a lot of foods I can truly live without, LOL. We even made it through Easter without eating a single chocolate! So proud of myself there! It is a bit restrictive though and so we are going to start adding more whole grains, veggies & fruit into our diet and just restricting ourselves from junk food. I think that will help me stick to eating better on a regular basis instead of losing on a really restrictive diet and then immediately going back to my old ways and gaining it right back. I am also going to try and stay off the diet soda (we're both Diet Coke addicts too) thanks to what Princess-rn said about it slowing the metabolism, and see if that helps as well. Not drinking soda (& drinking more water) certainly can't hurt that's for sure! :)
I also wanted to post this link to MSN's health site, they have an article called 45 of the Smartest Diet Tips Ever (http://articles.health.msn.com/id/100100351). Hopefully the link will be good for a while. It's too long to copy and paste but I thought there were some really good tips there.
hth and good luck to everyone trying to lose!

I've lost 12 pounds by making myself move at least 30 minutes a day, no matter what. No excuses, and, I'm not obsessing over what excercise it is, whether its walking, running, elliptical, etc.
Also, I've cut out many processed carbs and don't miss them.
Other than that, I've kept my lifestyle the same.
I feel better than I have in a long, long time, and find myself actually looking forward to my thirty minutes everyday.

how is the sugar free kool aid? I like crystal lite, but is the kool aid better. I'm not much of a soda drinker so crystal lite and water are my drinks of choice. but if the kool aid is better i'd switch

I buy a sugar free drink called H2O. It's fruit flavored water sweetened with Spenda. Great, great, great. No carbs, no calories. :cool1:
Gatorade also has a drink called Propel. Low cal, 5 carbs. Also good for a change. My diabetic son is 7 and he loves the Propel.
Good luck to all of us!

My vote is for Weight Watchers! I have been a lifetime member since 1997. When I go, I maintain my weight. When I miss, I gain. I lost 60 lbs and regained 20 last year when I slowed down my life a little bit. I went back in January to lose those 20 lbs. and I've lost 15 of them already. I'm eating real food and I feel great. I substitute a lot of high calorie foods with healthier selections. I don't totally restrict myself so it doesn't feel like dieting. You can eat anything you want as long as you stay in the points range. It always works for me, but I have to make sure that once I get down to my goal weight that I keep going.

I've lost 10 1bs by eating chicken and pork instead of red meat, and not ordering Value meals at fast food joints. Also, Looking at the Food data on Healthclub.com (no cost for this feature) helped me see how much fat is in the food I've been eating (most steaks are between 40-90 grams, even Filet) and the appetizers I order before dinner are all really high in fat, like over 100 grams. I still eat things I want, such as candy, but I never buy a candy bar, I'll eat like a minature, or hershey kiss. I also just eat a Lean Pocket for lunch everyday--just pack it up with me and take it to work. Just sticking to these little rules, instead of starving myself have helped me and I have NEVER been able to lose weight, EVER! Good Luck to everyone!! :cheer2:

Well thanks to reading this post about a week and a half ago... I am now down approximately 3 1/2 lbs thanks to actually sticking to Weight Watchers!!! You guys got me motivated and I have been so good in not cheating. I count every morsel that crosses my lips.
I finally figured what will work for me. I eat at least 3 servings of lowfat dairy a day (supposed to help you burn fat quicker). I drink at least a gallon of water each day. I eat every 2 hours even if I'm not hungry (this has what seemed to help me this time) to keep my metabolism going. I also walk every day. Some days just a mile, but a couple times a week I go with friends and we do a little over 3.
So hang in there. Don't anybody give up. You all got me motivated and it really is possible to lose...even if it's not that much fun!!! I just keep thinking of the big margarita I'm gonna have when I get to Disney in June!!!

I thought I would add to this with some suggestions for really great tasting protein bars. Detour Bars. They make Uturn bars that are chocolate and caramel flavor and Detour bar that are Smores flavor. They have Joy Ride that tastes like an almond joy. There are also white chocolate and peanut butter, peanut butter and another that is like a snickers bar. They all have different names associated with traffic. They are really good. I think there are some other flavors, but I have allergies to all but the smores and uturn ones. Target and Walmart sells them in a small size, but I also order the large ones from DPS Nutrition online. GNC carries them as well. The little ones have 15 g of protein and the big ones have 30 g protein. I have found eating protein keeps my full. I eat a large one for lunch. They are great to take in the car for a day of shopping rather than eating junk food.
I need to drop 10 pounds so I don't have to buy new clothes. Thanks for motivating me :) I've always had to watch my weight since I was around 10 years old.

I have lost 60 lbs in about 14 months. They key for me was to do it slowly and set realistic goals. (I want to be at 185 and ill be happy. then when i got there I said, that wasnt so hard, how about 175...and so on.)
I just went to the basics - burn more calories than i consume. I cut out alot of sugars, stopped drinking sugared soda and ice cream. Added alot of vegetables to my diet. Switched to low fat/reduced calorie versions of things (Watch Calorie Comando on Food Network and it will inspire you with great ideas). I also eat light yougurt everyday for lunch and allow one free day a week - where I eat basicaly what I want (within reason). This way I dont feel like i will "never have real food again." I also walk or run on a regular basis.
I guess it boils down to take it slow and wathc your calories - if you burn more than you eat, you will lose weight.

As far as dieting goes I'm not exactly a veteran, but just in case this helps someone I thought I'd post here for ya'll. About 2 1/2 years ago I started getting sick and basically my doctors were stumped. They ran just about every test they could think of and while they knew what was happening to me (stomach lining was getting ripped to shreds, hives and other skin problems constantly, constant pain all over) they weren't able to figure out how to fix it. So I went from being extremely active (by that I mean running 2 miles a day in the morning, teaching martial arts in the evening, rock climbing on the weekends) to not being able to move very much without screeching in pain. It took the doctors about a year to figure out what was happening to me, but during that time I was basically in bed about 20 out of 24 hours. I gained about 20 pounds from that. Before that I was pretty thin, 115 lbs at 5'8", and then went up to 135. Now mind you I ate whatever I wanted normally so thats just my normal body weight. However, it turned out that I had a rare food allergy to citric acid that was causing all of my health problems. (We tried different diets until we identified the nasty culprit.) I lost the 20 pounds in 2 months without much trouble (once I was able to start running again) by running each morning (and mind you I was vveeeeerrry out of shape in terms of endurance at this point) for about a half a mile and then walking a half a mile to start. I then worked my way up until I got up to 3 miles a day. Sure it took work on my part but it was worth it. Also, I started eating healthier. I used to snack a lot before that simply because I could, but now that I wanted ot lose my extra weight I realized snacking was not conductive to weight loss. So I quit cold turkey. Simply don't think about food, and eat very bland things. It STUNK for about a week but after that the plain foods (like rice with nothing on it) that I ate suddenly tasted WONDERFUL. Eating a LOT of fruit or plain veggies (like carrots and celery) for lunch also became a delicacy to me. At first it did not, but now eating a large plate of say, 3 apples, 2 kiwis, and other fruits is great! Try a drastic diet change and do it quickly, force yoruself to stick to it without breaking it for a week, and see how things taste to you afterwards. I know it did wonders for my tastebuds. :)

You can lose 10 pounds in short period of time but keep in mind that the weight you lose will mainly water weight and you lose muscles too when you go for quick weight loss.
