I have had a small pond, about 1000 gallons, that I want to enlarge this spring. I would like to do it right a put a skimmer and bottom drain in it. Is it a do it yourself project and do you know any websites that expains it? Thanks.

Hi LBAK, and welcome! :flower3:

I don't have a pond, just an over-flowing large jug/pot, so I can't really help you out.

We do have some Buds (F&G posters) who are into ponds, and hopefully one of them will surface soon, and give you some advice. :)

In the meantime, you might want to check out the following link. :)

Back when I had my pond ( 2500 gallons ) I used tthis as a good source for info.

http://www.watergardening.com/

I never had a skimmer or UV filter... just a big homemade filter system. I had the pond for 5 years or so. Never had a problem except that one day I woke up and my pond was almost empty... my brother forgot to put the lid back on the filter.

My point is, that, for me, everything was a do it yourself project. And I am not a "handy" person at all.

I pay people to do most stuff for me since I am so unskilled!

But for some reason, my pond came out GREAT!

I commend you for asking Questions. :confused3
My Husband didn't listen to anyone.
HAD TO DO IT HIS WAY.
What a mess the water fall leaks draining the pond.
Killing :sad1:  all my beloved hand tame Butterfly Koi. :fish: :fish:
He has been working on it over a year to get it right.
Wants to buy more Koi. :fish: :fish:
I said no not until we can run the water fall etc no leaks 24/7.
Good luck on your pond project.
Try the D.Y.I website

Thanks for the welcome and the websites. I will definitely read every one of these.
I love my current pond. DH and I had no idea what we were doing 7 years ago. We woke up one morning and decided to dig a pond. It is kidney shaped with a small waterfall and a filter. It is great. I told DH we really need to get in there and clean it this year and he suggested enlarging it. I knew I  this man. This time we are hoping to put a bottom drain and skimmer system in it.
I am nervous about moving my fish. They are all now 7 years old and I would hate for anything to happen to them. Same with my waterlilies.
I am anxious to get started.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Lynn

We have 3 small ponds and a waterfall no drains or skimmers. Would love to enlarge but for now it's enough to keep me busy.
Counted 6 large fish today, looks like the winter tooks it's toll.
