i have been to universal 1996, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2004, and will be going next year. my children are now teenagers and i have learned one huge thing: you cant stay at the parks the whole day without gettting numerous complaints. my suggestion is this: stay onsite, go to one of the parks when it opens, leave about noon and go back to the hotel and swim, and then come back to the parks when the children are refreshed and excited :jumping1: to get started again. then the next day, do the same thing except go to the opposite park that you previously went to. this works for me but if you have anymore hints, let me know.

have you ever gone w/ little kids? i'm just wondering if it's best to let them sleep in their strollers in order to save time when parks close early instead of going back to the hotel, esp. when staying off-site w/out FOTL. what do you think? (mine will be ages 3 & 10 months at time of USF trip).

The first post is what I recommend to people all the time.

As for going with kids ages 3 and 10 months and staying off site, yes, I'd still go back to the hotel for a nap. If you arrive the parking garage at 8am and are first to the gate, you can take a lap of IOA in 3 hours using baby swap for the thrill rides, and then doing the kid stuff in Suess Landing. At noon, the park gets packed, the sun is out, it's hot, and the kids will get cranky. Exit the park, eat lunch, and take a nap at the hotel. At 4pm you come back, and you can stay until 7pm when the parks close. That gives you 3 hours to walk around. You probably won't get on many rides, but you can go see a show.

Disney is a different story. The rides take longer to do because most have a long preshow and long lines. For Disney, you have to stay the entire day and tuff it out. But for IOA/USF, you can leave and come back.
