So the nearest airport to me is Newark, NJ (EWR), this is the only airport I can fly out of but it appears Southwest doesn't fly to Orlando (MCO) from Newark. Which is odd to me :scratchin

Does anyone have any other cheap sites for me to check out. The cheapest I've found is $300pp, is that too much or just right ($900 total) :confused3

Southwest now flies out of Philly. I don't know if the price differential is worth it or not. 2 yrs ago, Southwest was out of Baltimore and our friends drove to Baltimore and caught a SW flight from there. Now, they had to pay for parking the car but it worked out for them.

Also, you may want to also check out Atlantic City....again, don't know if the price differential would be worth it or not.

Not sure where you are...we are in Southern NJ, outside of Philly

http://www.flysong.com/home/index.jsp <------Try Delta Song, they fly out of Newark and have pretty good prices. We are going to be using them for our trip to WDW. Hope this helps! :flower:

I'm actually in northern nj closer to NYC, LGA and JFK but they don't go to Florida either. It's really not convenient to travel to a different airport other than EWR though because we'll be relying on grandparents to drop us off at the airport.

I have always found the best deal on the airlines own web site. $300pp out of EWR for Sept seems high to me this far out. You may want to set an alert notice with Orbitz. You can have them send you a notice if airfare hit a price you designate.

If you are able to drive to Atlantic City, try Spirit. The few times I've flown with them, they have been significantly cheaper. ACY is so easy to get in and out of and parking is cheap compared to EWR. The only downside in the drive to get there.

If you are in No. Jersey, look at Jet Blue out of JFK. Song out of LGA is always cheaper then EWR. There is also Southwest out of Philadelphia. Again, how far are you willing to drive to save on airfare. Good luck, I know this game all to well.

why is it that the sites ask you if its adults or children when they charge the same amount either way. I've never paid less for my 4 year old daughter than I havve for myself or DH so why bother asking. :confused3

Delta Song out of JFK is really cheap. We got $118 a person nonstop to Orlando for our Dec trip. Newark is way closer for us too, but we could not get anything under 250 a person out of Newark (I think they are a little higher now) so we are driving to JFK. I don't really mind. :flower:

someone suggested Jetblue....when we were last in WDW we spoke with many people that took Jet blue and it was fine. No problems.

Also, I wondered the same thing about airfare and children...why ask?

We are driving down to WDW this time...last 2 times as a family we flew but sneaking a couple extra days to drive. We'll split it in 2 days and it won't be that bad and we'll save some money....more to spend in WDW. :mickeybar

I am also in NJ. You MAY need to give up on Newark, and look at Song out of both JFK and Laguardia. MANY $59.each way flights, I just booked some in October. I even saw American out of Laguardia for $59 each way. To get Jet Blue this low, you need to book very early, right after the dates open up for booking, it seems. But Song is just as good, leather seats, TVs, friendly flight crew.

Instead of flying into MCO check out flying into Tampa. We got a fare of $69/pp on Air Tran EWR to Tampa for the end of April.

It's because seats in an Exit row cannot be assigned to children. Everyone in an Exit row must be capable and willing to help open/remove the exit door in the event of an emergency.

Also Song has the TV's in the headrests with Dish network! They give you food and you can order other things (food/alcohol) for a small fee. :)

For the OP. Are you dead set against flying out of New York? We have a family of 5, so paying $118 a person for Song out of JFK vs. $250 a person out of Newark was a big difference for us. If you book through Song's website you can select your seats looking at a diagram of the plane. I did hear that Jet Blue is coming to Newark (don't know if it's just a rumer) but if it happens, it may help lower all the flights out of Newark because airlines may compete with Jet Blue prices. :sunny:

I'm going to agree with those that suggested JFK--we are also going with 5 people and it was nearly 1/2 the cost as leaving from Newark...definitely worth the extra travel time/cost if you crunch the numbers!

Also I just checked this morning and the previously $59 rates are up to $64--not sure if this is just weekend fluctuation or a hike due to rising gas costs--our plan is to wait until midweek to see if they go back down and, if not, booking before they go up again.

Good luck on whatever you decide!

We too live very close to Newark airport, but we always fly out of New York. For a family of four it is over $600 in savings. That is a huge savings to begin your trip. It could even be your entire hotel bill.

Southwest now has rates up online for up to Sept. 12th. You can get it as cheap as $79 pp each way - you'd be saving alittle under 1/2 price per person - so, to me that is definately worth driving the extra distance. I am in central NJ - so Philly is about 45 min for me & Newark is about 1 hr. I would fly out of Philly anyday.

I spent a significant period of time trying to get a relatively inexpensive flight out of EWR. It was simply not possible. As other posters have mentioned, the savings are significant. I would suggest Song Air. It is cheaper than my beloved JetBlue (truly!) and it has the added benefit of being one of the airlines available for the Magical Express program. Find someone other than Grandma to drive you!

Good luck with your planning!

I am in Bergen Cty., NJ and we have always flown out of Newark. However on our last trip in Oct. someone I work with mentioned saving a ton of money by flying out of NY. I checked the flight for Delta Song (love the airline) and the price was so much cheaper, I think $100 cheaper per ticket flying out of LGA. We had no problems at all, we drove and parked our car, between tolls and parking we still saved so much money.

We never cared which airport out of the 3 we flew from....whichever one gave us the better rate. I'd rather have the money in my pocket to spend as I wanted, rather than the airlines.

The past two trips we flew out of Atlantic City. We saved a fortune in parking and it is worth the car drive. The airport there is small, and it is so much better than Newark. We live in Monmouth County, and I hate EWR!! Spirit flies out of AC.

We found that it was cheaper to go out of LGA and pay for a car service both ways than flying out of Newark. Our flight out of LGA was $159 (I think) and the car service cost us $100 RT. So for 2 adults RT from LGA w/ car service it was $418. 2 RT Tix from EWR would have cost us $600 (plus we would have had to take a car service anyway since we had no one who could give us a ride)

I was really anti-LGA at first (since I grew up 10 minutes from EWR). Run the numbers w/ a car service, you might be surprised.

We have flown Delta's Song out of Newark several times... with good results (flysong.com).... also had good luck with AirTran out of Philly... they fly direct to MCO, from Newark you have to transfer in Atlanta.
Good luck! :sunny:

Thx everyone. I'm gonna crunch the numbers and if the savings is significant, I guess I'll ask nicely if they won't mind dropping us off at LGA or JFK. :goodvibes

If you are closer to NYC and closer to JFK I would suggest flying JetBlue out of JFK. They have a nice terminal, and when I fly to FL I ALWAYS fly JetBlue. They are nice and they have TV's. I don't know when you are going but they are having amazing deals now if you are flying before the end of May (I think its $69 one way to Orlando from JFK). Check out their website: www.jetblue.com

I bought tickets on Delta song for 135.00 rt direct flight out of jfk. I t seems that sometimes the flights out of Laguardia are cheaper. A lot of people don't like flying out of that airport for some reason. Goood luck. debi

We're using Spirit Airlines (from Atlantic City) for the 2nd time for our trip in April. While not luxurious, the planes are clean & certainly worth the savings. We booked 3 months in advance and paid $613.00 for the 4 of us round trip. There were absolutely no crowds in the airport and no waiting for anything (except while checking luggage). And even that went quick. I would recommend it to anyone.

We looked at flights from Newark and all NY airports for a few months around Dec to fly down on April 23 to Orlando. They were all over $350! Jet BLue was $500 each way pp! We were going to drive when we found United out of Philly for $229 round trip pp. We hate Delta Song, but would have done that too if it had been less. I even called two travel agents who told me to grab anything under $400 at that time.
What happened? I can't believe that we could have gone JetBlue for under $200 pp from JFK?

I Am Also In Nj Teaneck. It Is Actually Closer To Travel To Lga Then Ewr. Lga Takes 22 Minutes (with No Traffic) Ewr Is 45 Minutes (with No Traffic)

The Flights Are Cheaper, And Also The People Are So Much Friendly.
Even Going Thru Check Points Are A Very Good Experience. Can't Say The Same For Newark.

I Go To Mco Twice A Year November For Dcl (nj Teacher's Convention) & President's Week February Vacation, Both The Busiest Times To Fly. We Love Lga, Would Prefer To Fly With Them.

In The Long Run, It Is Cheaper To Use Car Service, & Fly Lga Then To Fly Ewr.

We Are Flying Delta Song This November For Only 110.00 Round Trip.
We Will Be Searching & Booking This Weekend For Feb 2005

Hope This Helps

flyi.com doesn't have september's rates up yet so I don't know if i should wait and see what they come up with in regards to flights out of ewr or just book with song (which right now is $79 one way out of LGR or JFK). :confused3
