We are starting to plan our first trip to HHI and am wondering which airport to use. It seems I have the choice of 1) flying directly into Hilton Head (I think this would be my first choice, unless there is something I am unaware of); 2) flying into Savannah and driving almost 50 miles; and 3) flying into Charleston and driving almost 100 miles!
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary Lou :earsgirl:

We were there in May and flew into Savannah. For us, it was really the only option (other than Charleston) as we couldn't get flights from San Antonio into Hilton Head. The drive was easy and really didn't seem that far. Hope you enjoy HHI

I also used the Savannah airport. It was the most pleasant airport I've been in. It's small and easy to get around in. The luggage pick-up is right next to the car rental desks. Then you just stroll outside and the cars are waiting.
The drive really isn't all that bad. I would plan on a daytime landing however for your first trip. The signage on the island is often hard to see because of regulations. Once you know your way around it's easy. The DVC Resort is on the main roadway (278) of the island.

If you can get a better rate flying into HH, then that is the obvious choice. Otherwise, I would choose Savannah. The Charleston airport places you in a location that is not an easy drive to HH. Good luck with your planning!

I flew into HH. It is the cutest airport I have ever seen. The price was only about $30 more than Savannah for my trip. It was very convenient.

Do they allow large palnes (i.e 737s) into HH airport or just little puddle jumpers?

We have been to HH several times and have always flown into Savannah. The flights directly into HH seem to be smaller planes and cost a little more. By flying into Savannah and renting a car, you can stop at the grocery store on your way to the resort. There are a couple of new ones that are very nice. Have a great trip!

We went down last spring we flew into Jacksonville. It was cheap and only about 2 hours away. on the way we stoped at Jeckkel Island and some other very pretty places.

Mary Lou,
Airtran.com has very good pricing on flights into Savanna. You can catch them out of Toledo or Akron/Canton. All flights connect into Atlanta.
You are going to love HH.

We flew directly into HH and picked up a rental car at the airport. The airport is 10 minutes from the resort. Enjoy.

We went for the first time this year. My wife informed me that we were going to fly one week (GULP) we left. Keep in mind that we just had returned from the cruise and my intent was to drive and have a "no expense vacation" and finally realize why I paid all that money for DVC.
We were able to fly into Charleston. Its about 1:45 to get to HH. It was the cheapest at teh time. Looking to the next trip, there does not seem to be a big difference between HH and Sav. I wonder how the car rental prices compare?
