Every year I buy these for the kids and they never use them.
Are there any rough surfaces that would require the use of these in the water/near the water?
Thanks for you're help :wave2:

I've noticed that other people say to wear them, but I wonder if you really need them. I keep looking at them at Wal Mart, but I've not bought them. I don't think my kids would wear them either. When are you going? We're going April 10th. :cool1: I can't wait!

We'll miss you by 15 days (25th April).
I think I will get them for the kids anyway, they are cheap enough. Never know when they will really be needed. Don't want any dissappointments on this day :goodvibes

I remember reading...somewhere!... that they were recommended at Discovery Cove. I think some of the lagoons have rough bottoms. However, our family frequently goes river rafting, and we would rather wear sandals - it seems you get better 'traction' on rough surfaces.

i went a few yrs. ago & DH & I wore them the whole time - we found them useful when getting out of the water (a lazy river) to view the birds on land. also, when doing the dolphin swim, i felt like i had a good grip on the water's edge while interacting w/ the dolphin. re: the bottom surface- when going under the waterfall in the lazy river, i tripped & scraped my knee pretty good in a shallow area so i would say it was rough.

Hanna,
Are you talking about sandals like Teva? I've never wore them, do they make your feet float? I like the way they look, better than the water shoes. (My DH hates it when I choose fashion over function, haha) :)
I will get the water shoes for my kids. Thanks for the info Jenny, I don't want my kids to have sore feet! :flower3: I think they are less than $6 at Wal Mart. Does anyone know if the price's of summer items are more expensive in Florida? Like beach towels, sun screen, water toys, sandals, etc. :sunny:
Lori, I'll let you know how wonderful of a time we had!

Hens - yes! Please do :Pinkbounc
I would buy the water shoes before you go, just so you don't risk not finding their size or have to make the time to go out of you're vacation time.
Jenny - thanks for you're helpful info. Sorry you got hurt :sad1:

We all wore them the whole time, although lots of people didn't. I guess its just down to personal choice. I scraped my knee getting out of the lagoon and it was quite badly grazed, so the surfaces are pretty rough.
I would also advise buying your water shoes before you go. I deliberately waited until we got to WDW because I wanted to have them as a souvenir of our holiday but I was very disappointed, there was only one type. I had SOOOO been hoping to get some with Disney characters on!!! :rotfl:

I bought my kids water shoes/sneakers from Lands End last year and they loved them. They sell a convertible land/water sneaker type thing that serves as a sneaker and water shoe.

We bought cheap ones from Walmart (i thinks that's were we got them) and found them useful as there are some rough areas, they were also helpful when walking around on the athways the concrete can get quite hot when the sun shines on it - I would but them before you arrive as they are quite expensive there.
