You know how this works - I ask a question about a resort - you identify the resort and then ask a question about another resort - and so on.

What resort's pool area has the theming of a turn of the century carnival.

Scary clown resort  ....I mean Boardwalk.

The Polynesian? Hopefully I'm right!

My question:
Which resort was built with prefabricated rooms which were slid into place from the outside??;)

Trekker

I was thinking of CBR, let's go with grumpyandbashful's question

I'll give someone else a shot at that one. Just want to confirm that BW was correct on the roller coaster (there is a mini replica of one in the lobby).

Nolcrest

FYI - butterfly garden is located behind the Arcadia House at POR.

I think the SOG was called the Disney Inn. Not sure of a mascot. Need someone else to answer and post another question.:D

yup it was stormalong bay!!:D

EpcotBill
08-09-2001, 07:39 PM
The original name of SoG was The Golf Resort, then Disney Inn. I know when it was the Disney Inn the Seven Dwarfs were on the sign at the entrance, so I guess it was the 7D's.

At which resort will you find the lawn mower tree?

SeaSpray
08-09-2001, 07:46 PM
Lawnmower tree... at the Contemporary?

If I'm right, here is my question:

Which resort has furniture (beds) that looks like a beaver carved it?? :}

EpcotBill
08-09-2001, 07:49 PM
lawn mower tree is not at the Contemporary.

SeaSpray
08-09-2001, 07:50 PM
I was wrong, its Fort Wilderness!!

Nolcrest
08-09-2001, 08:01 PM
The beds in Alligator Bayou at POR looked like they were carved by a beaver.

cigar95
08-09-2001, 11:06 PM
An addendum to one of the early questions -

The Poly was also built with pre-fab rooms. While the Contemporary gets the attention for this, both were built this way.

Here's a question that may not be what it seems at first -

Which Disney resort was built with the monorail in mind, but has no monorail service?

olena
08-10-2001, 03:45 AM
The GF is patterned after the Del Coronado.

My question....which was the first moderate resort to be opened?

SeaSpray
08-10-2001, 05:57 AM
Caribbean Beach was the first moderate! :)

OK, here' a question:

In which resort can you find a 5-legged goat??

tnkrbell

Trekker
08-10-2001, 08:26 AM
OK - this is great------

Next question..............

At which resort will you find surfboard bay?

micnminnpooh2
08-10-2001, 09:10 AM
the first unit to open at all star sports is not basketball try again

micnminnpooh2
08-10-2001, 09:10 AM
surfboard bay is at all star sports

cigar95
08-10-2001, 09:31 AM
In answer to laurenk - I said it was a tricky question! The answer *isn't* Swan & Dolphin.

I was careful to specify a "Disney resort", rather than a "WDW resort". And since it's the "Walt Disney World Swan", rather than "Disney's Swan Resort", that wasn't what I was looking for, even though they were designed with a monorail stop in mind.

One of the existing Disney-owned resorts has remnants of what was to be a monorail platform. Which one?!

As to Olena and Sea Spray - I'm not sure the Caribbean Beach was the first moderate, because when it opened, there were no value resorts. I have some of the early literature on CBR, so I can look to see what they were calling it at the time.

Obviously, it was the first of what we *now* call moderates.

The answer to that one might be Coronado Springs.

Where will you find a courtyard of frogs?

cigar95
08-10-2001, 10:21 AM
tnkrbell, were you answering my question?

If so, Wilderness Lodge is right!

If you go up the stairs on the west wide of the WL lobby, along the front of the hotel, up around the fourth floor or so you can see an open platform through the windows that doesn't seem to serve any purpose. That was originally going to be a platform for a monorail extension.

As much as I love both the monorail and the Lodge, it's hard for me to see them going well together. Poly yes, GF yes, but WL, and all its surrounding woods, I just don't know. (But that's for another thread - this one's much too much fun as it is!)

OK, I'll toss out another, even though it's not my turn - at which WDW resort can you find a mosaic with an obviously out of place tile?

Now that we've come full circle -

Yes, it's at the Contemporary, but it's not the five legged goat. (That's a different sort of flaw, though also mosaic-related.)

It's part of the Mary Blair mural. On the south side, facing the restaurants, there are several long green leaves pictured. (It's been a while since I've seen this, so the details may be fuzzy.) About half way up, one of the leaves looks like there's a bite taken out of it. But if you look closely, you'll see that that particular tile was placed rotated by 90 degrees (pi/2 for you math wizards). By the time anyone noticed, they apparently decided to leave it as is - a bit of reality to entertain those dining at the restaurants with sharp eyes.

Hey PamNC,

Is it Caribbean beach with 2,112 rooms?

Trekker
08-14-2001, 03:17 PM
No they are not the boats..

There is only one place to eat at the French Quarter (was Port Orleans) . There is an inexpensive large food court called Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory is a food court where Guests can dine around Mardi Gras Parade props in a warehouse setting. It is open from 6:00am - midnight (hours vary by shop).

Caribbean Beach 1988.

scanne

I think the Grand Floridian opened the same year as Caribbean Beach.

How many square feet are the rooms at Disney's moderate resorts AND which mod. resort has a different square footage (and what is it?).

cigar95
08-14-2001, 06:21 PM
How technical do we want to get?

When the CBR opened in 1988, it was billed as "affordable", since it was the first non-deluxe. Even when PO and DxL opened in '91 and '92, they weren't yet called "moderates". So the first to open under the label "moderate" would have been Coronado Springs.

Can you tell I enjoy trick questions?

What can I get at the "Outer Rim" and which resort is it located in?

Good Luck!

I can answer the second question....the Outer Rim is located in the Contemporary Resort and I could certainly get a drink there!!!!

At what resort could I find the Rue D'Baga?

tampafan
08-21-2001, 11:18 AM
Rue D'Baga is at Port Orleans French Quarter.

Is the other answer Bonnet Creek?

At what resort can you find Goofy squirting water at you from a cannon?

cigar95
08-21-2001, 01:17 PM
Bonnet Creek it is!

I know, you're all wondering - what's Bonnet Creek?

Well, you know that little creek that runs right next to the road to OKW, PO, and DxL, that you have to cross when you're heading out to hop on Epcot Center Drive? That's named Bonnet Creek.

If you follow it up, you'll see that it goes all the way up to the golf club of the same name. And, of course, the road along it is Bonnet Creek Drive.

In the original question, I didn't want to ask "what's the name of the creek that runs . . . . ", since that would have given it away.

Good job, tampafan. Now if we can just get the answer to that question about the years in which three resorts opened - our original poster has abandoned us!

Wilderness Lodge
Grand Floridian
Boardwalk Inn
Yacht Club
Beach Club
PO-R

Trekker
08-23-2001, 09:14 PM
OK eeyor0062 - that looks like 6 questions in 1.

Wilderness Lodge is modeled on the historic Old Faithful Lodge circa 1904 in Yellowstone National Park

Grand Floridian is styled in a turn-of-the-century Victorian theme

Boardwalk Inn captures the feel of the 20's and 30's Eastern Seaboard

Yacht Club Is themed after seaside New England hotels of the late 1800s

Beach Club is styled after the New England seaside at the turn of the century

PO-R is themed to the Mississippi-bayou area of the Old South

I'm not going to ask a question until I know if this is what eeyore is looking for - what say you eeyore?

My question:

cigar95
08-24-2001, 09:24 AM
Don't want to quarrell, but I always thought WL was supposed to represent the Pacific Northwest, rather than Wyoming. ("Northwest Mercantile", and all.)

I've been wrong before, I suppose . . . .

TinkerBelle_325
08-24-2001, 10:25 AM
Is Chips and Slices a restaurant or bar at Shades of Green?

Nope -- Chips and Slices is a new snack place by the pool near the Welcome Center. The snack bar offers a surprising variety of sandwiches and finger foods, including some sushi. At the Disney Institute....

If so here is my question

There are 5 resort areas, name them, the number of Disney Resort otels located in each and lastly the grand total of Disney Resort Hotles inside WDW

Tikiman
08-24-2001, 10:41 AM
Officially there are only 4 areas listed:

Magic Kingdom area:
Contemporary
Grand Floridian
Polynesian
Wilderness Lodge
Fort Wilderness

Epcot area:
Boardwalk
Swan & Dolphin
Yacht Club
Beach Club
Caribbean Beach

Animal Kingdom area:
Al Star resorts
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Coronado Springs

Downtown Disney area:
Old Key West
Disney Institute
Port Orleans FQ

I can not give you a total with out knowing if you want to list the Swan & Dolphin separate and the YC and BC separate. Also do you want to count Pop Century?

I still have never seen any listing for a 5 WDW area.

Steve

Magic Kingdom Resort area - Grand FLoridian, Polynesian, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Fort WIlderness Campground, Shades of Green

Downtown Disney Resort Area - Port Orleans, Villas at Disney Institute, Old Key West (not 100% sure about this one)

Epcot Resort area - Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn, Boardwalk Villas, Swan and Dolphin, Caribbean Beach

Animal Kingdom Resort Area - Coronado Springs, Animal Kingdom Lodge, All Star Resorts

Wait, I'm stumped. A 5th resort area? Maybe someone can help me out?

THere are 20 hotels, 21 if you inlcude Pop Century. Am I sort of close? I won't ask another question until I get feedback on this answer.

In Walt Disney's original 5 year plan, he had proposed building 5 resorts around the MK. Each resort was to be an extension of a "land" in the MK. What "lands" goes with the Contemporary and Polynesian resorts and what resort was supposed to be built where the Grand Floridian now stands?

What resort has a working jukebox located in one of its restaurants where you can select great oldie songs to listen to while you dine? I'll make it a two parter... What is the name of the restaurant?

What is the motto of the Polynesian resort, and what does it mean?

The first two were answered but not confirmed Beaches and Cream was *NOT* the answer I was looking for (although I can't say for sure that there is not a jukebox at B&C). Is there a Sauna at GF pool? The last one about the Poly is still wide open.

I don't think this is the answer to the Poly's motto but I'll take a shot in the dark... "Hakuna Motata means No Worries".

The GF wasn't the answer I was looking for, has anyone been to the new GF pool? Does it have a sauna. My question is still outstanding

[B]What is the only Disney Pool (to my knowledge) that has a sauna?

I think I remember that the pool at thr DI has a sauna. In case I'm right...

Which resirt had a wave machine installed off its beach that was turned off shortly after it opened because of beach erosion? FYI--the machine is still there.

OK, time to clean up some of these questions!
To my knowledge there is only one Disney Resort Pool with a sauna, what resort is that pool located at?
That would be Old Key West. It is located inside the lighthouse.
Which resort had a wave machine installed off its beach that was turned off shortly after it opened because of beach erosion? FYI--the machine is still there.
That would be in Seven Seas Lagoon off of the Polynesian Resort beach.
What is the motto of the Polynesian resort, and what does it mean?
Aita Peatea (ah-ee-tah-pay-ah) - "There will be another day tomorrow just like today".
What resort has a working jukebox located in one of its restaurants where you can select great oldie songs to listen to while you dine? I'll make it a two parter... What is the name of the restaurant?
The only one I'm familiar with is at the Dolphin Fountain in the Dolphin Resort. Is that the one you were thinking of, dvcdudes?

I'm going to wait to post any more questions until I get some confirmations.

Did we ever get confirmation that the Contemporary was called the Contempra in the late 8o's that just doesn't sound right to me. i know it was a few questions ago, I guess I'm a little slow. :)

Yes it was, I know the name doesn't "sound" right that is why they changed it back but it was my question and I KNOW it was called that. If you even listen to the old monorail narratives they say the Contempra not the Contemporary

Your good JamesD.
I think you got them all.
Yes, I was thinking of the Dolphin Fountain. We ate there on our last trip and the kids thought it was great.

Good Work!

No, Hakuna Matata came out after the motto for the Poly, nice try, though.

If GF doesn't have a sauna, is it Boardwalk?

Yes, James D, the mottos of the Poly is "Aita Peatea" which means, "There will be another day tomorrow just like today". Looks like you can ask that question now!!! Or perhaps you should ask 3, since you answered 3 correctly:)

I think one was Treasure Island but I don't know the other. Actually I'm not even sure about that one. I just think I remember something about Pirates.
