I hope you don't mind me asking about renting DVC points.
I read tmli's post tonight about DVC and it got me thinking about renting points.

To be honest, until tonight I had never given them a second thought, until now . Now, it seems to totally make sense (renting points). Can you please read my proposed plan and tell me if it makes any sense or not.

Dec 12 or 13 (check-in), 2006 until Dec 17 (check-out): stay at a value and hope for a general code to come out. If not, pay rack rate.

Dec 17 (check-in), 2006 until Dec 22 (check-out) :
stay at OKW, by renting points from someone. This is considered choice season and would need 8 points per night (mid-week stay, studio). I checked allearsnet.com and it looks like I would only need 8 points per night . At $10/per point it would cost only $80US/nt including tax . Does this make any sense? How can a $259US/nt (rack rate during value season) PLUS tax room go for only $80 including tax???

Am I missing something or confused about something? If NOT, this is definately the way to go, don't you think????

Please give me any advise you can on this. And please tell me the best way to rent the 40 (?) points I would need for 12/2006. Imagine staying in a deluxe for the price of a value. I must be figuring something wrong. If this info. is correct, I wonder how soon I could rent points for a 12/2006 vacation.

Thank you
Suzy V.

Renting points at a DVC resort is an excellent EXCELLENT way to save money. Check out the DVC Rent/Trade board and see if you can get booked in. The reason (IMHO) that you can get a $200+ room for $80 is because they take advantage of the non-DVC members using the resort and charging them Deluxe rates. Secondly, the going rate for DVC rental points is guesstimated at $10/point.. that's just the going rate! You should take advantage of it; if you want to REALLY enjoy DVC upgrade to a 1BR at OKW for 16pts/night. Quite the difference!

Splurge for the 1 bedroom...king size bedroom, washer/dryer, full kitchen, living room with pull out couch...room for air beds if your kids prefer to sleep on those instead of the couch:)...and a jacuzzi tub, and full size balcony :) You'll have room for an 8foot tall Christmas tree if you wanted;)

Have fun!

I still think it sounds too good to be true. I have spent the morning reading dis and allearsnet. com and I think I kind of understand how it works. I am just worried there won't be rental points/room available for our dates. I have read so much about the DVC resorts and they all look fantastic. I am now considering a studio at Beach Club Villas Dec 17-Dec 22, 2006. It would be more points (12/nt vs. 8/nt) but the Stormalong pool area looks amazing. I can see DD7 spending hours and hours in there.

But too upgrade to a one bedroom, I think the idea is fabulous but don't know if the budget would allow. Especially since we are planning at least 10 or 12 nights in WDW ( 5 nights at least probably more like 7 at POP then rent DVC points for 5 nights) followed by a full week at Siesta Key, FL. This is going to be a $$ trip.

Thanks again for all the tips.
If I go ahead and do this when would be the best time to post that I want to rent points/make a ressie on the DVC rent/trade board? That is the only area of the whole points renting thing I am VERY unsure of. It sounds like ressies can't be made until 11 months out (home resort) and 7 months out (other DVC resorts). I am not sure about this at all.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!:)
Couple of points:
1) Kids can't go down the SAB slide unless they can pass a swim test, and they can't wear life jackets on the slide.
2)OKW,BWV,VWL and SSR slides ...don't have to pass a swim test and can wear life jackets.

This was critical info for us!!LOL

As far as the 11mos out thing...
Are we in the 7mos booking window for Xmas? I can't do that math that quick...if yes, then any owner from any resort can book for you at BCV....just sitting here thinking about it, I'm saying no...still outside.

If we're still in the 11mos window, then you need someone with points at BCV. (Sorry, we're out of points already!!LOL...otherwise, I would rent them to you:))

Go ahead and post over on the Rent/Trade Board:) A DVC member- who owns at any resort- can always call and check availablity - no problem.

Once you find someone you feel comfortable renting from, make sure you give them your room requests...no smoking, preferred floor, close to elevator...etc.

Be prepared to pay a little more than the 10/point rate. You may have to go to $11 or $12. It's a popular week for rentals... still a bargain!!:)

HTH!!

Hmm.. add 1.. carry the 2.. uhh.. Nope! Not 7 month window yet. Hehehe.. I was going to say that those weeks may be a little hard to get, especially at the Beach Club but definitely give it a try! The Boardwalk is pretty cool too! Renting is the way to go and *maybe*.. just *maybe* the DVC bug will bite. I know we haven't regretted taking the plunge!

Sorry, we are looking for Dec 17-Dec 22 ,2006, not 2005. I know I know, I am very much ahead of myself in this (as I always am). I usually try to plan vacations at least one or two years in advance. Just call me crazy. I assume January 17, 2006 (11 months prior to needing a studio in a DVC resort) would be the magic date to make the booking. Is that the day I would enter a post on DVC rent/trade forum? Or would I enter it a few days/weeks before???

Thanks so much for all of the info. What is the swim test like at SAB? I assume it is just to use the slide. DD7 swims like a fish (she swam by age 4) buy DS4 is very timid of the water. By the time we go, he will be 6, I don't know if he could pass a test of any sort. If not, he can still use the rest of SAB, correct? Which would be fine, since I can't see him wanting to go any where near the slide.

It sounds like BCV is very popular. Even if we couldn't get into BCV, I would be very happy at any other DVC resort. I have read tons about them this morning and also love OKW and BMV. I still have to read about WLV yet though. Is it easier to make a booking at OKW? At only 8 points/night I assume that this resort would book up first????

Regarding the booking part:
I assume that the booking would be made in my name (but by the DVC member) and that I would receive documentation from DVC?? I have read that I do not have to pay a % until I receive booking info.? Is that correct? And that the deposit would be approx. 25% and then pay balance 30-60 days prior to check-in?? I know that each rental agreement would vary, but after what I have read today, is this sort of the norm??

Mikey and mbb: You have no idea how much I appreciate the effort you have put in answering my questions.

Since I've never rented before I'll just go from what I've read here on the boards.
The reservations do go in your name and you will receive a confirmation # from the renter. You can call DVC Memberservices if you want to confirm with them. Usually it's a 50% fee up front and then 30-31days before the trip you "settle up" with the renter, cuz after 30-31days (forget what it is) if the resevation is cancelled the member can't get their points back (if you cancel before the 30-31days you get your points back).
OKW being the biggest (so far) DVC resort would be the easiest to get into. The VWL are AWESOME.. love the location.. but really they all are awesome (I LOVE SSR.. I like being close to DTD so I can stroll.. hehehe).. but what you can do it get a member who has 11month priority (wherever) to book you in their home resort now, and then put you on the waitlist at the 7month window (...can you do that.. hmm.. maybe I'm getting ahead of myself).
Just let them know what you want to do.. most DVC renters are very flexible, but I would post on the forum NOW what you're looking at doing and see if anyone at the BCV is willing to book NOW for your December trip!

Hope I'm not being too confusing! :)

Wow, you really know what your talking about. So would it be most beneficial for me to:
1. Choose a DVC resort (ex. BCV)
2. Post a thread to rent points now , ex. from a BCV owner
3. pay them the deposit now
4. Have them book BCV at the 11 month window (January 17, 2006)
5. Pay the rest 30 days prior to check-in

My concern: what would happen if they weren't able to book what I wanted at the 11 month window? Be put on the waitlist at another DVC resort (NOT their home resort) and have them book me elsewhere at the 7 month window (May 17, 2006)?

Please let me know if any of this makes sense.
Thanks, Suzy V.

I'm glad I'm home sick today.. hehehe.. lots to respond to!
If the renter is really good they will call to reserve right at the 11month window as soon as member services opens(which would be the day you would be checking *out* of the resort); you have an extremely good chance of getting any request at the 11month window cuz no one else is allowed to book there but members.. so I'd say you'd be in luck. That's why you should "buy where you want to stay" when you join DVC because you have that 4month advantage over non-owners.

Now that I think of it you shouldn't be able to waitlist at another resort until the 7 month window comes up.. which at your time of year may be tricky at BCV, BWV or the VWL, so that's why I would find a renter that owns at the resort you want to stay at to give you that advantage!

Clear as mud?

If I can bud in here.. I am looking at the OKW 1 br.. for around December 7-14 2006.. LONG way off.. lol.. my question is I can put 2 of my girls on the king bed and then 2 on an air mattress.. (they are young, that is still fun for them.. lol) and then us on the couch.. but is there enough Dishes for 6? or are you not allowed to have 6 in the room.. looks like there is lots of room but I have never seen it to be sure, we did enjoy staying at FW cabins, but it was tight in there and we got a general code and got it for $1201 for 7 days including tax if I did not use a code it would be $1834.00 but OKW would be around $1600 for the same time, since it looks like codes are hard to come by lately this may be a better option... but would it work? the 2 bdrm is out of my budget. what do you think? my kids are 8,7,5 & 3.. can you rent a 1 bdrm with 2 queen or double beds or all they all king in the bedroom?
Thanks!

So is this what I should do:
1. Pick a resort/room type
2. At the 11 month window (Jan 22, 2006) or maybe a couple weeks before, post what I want to rent on the DVC rent/trade board.
3. Hope some one responds and is willing to call CVD member serivces at opening time on Jan 22, 2006 to book ressie.

Wow, this seems so much simplier now then it did several hours ago.

My biggest dilemma it seems: which resort to pick??? I really like OKW and BCV. Do you really think it would be easier to get a studio for OKW (since it is very big and maybe not as popular as BCV) for my dates (Dec 17-22, 2006)? If so, great since I am loving that resort.
We live on a lake and our house is basically built in a forest and we have a bird sanctuary on one side. It is very quiet here, therefore, I can relate a little better to OKW. BCV and BMV's look nice too but it might be a little busy for me (although I know DH and the kids would prefer it). Hmm, decisions, decisions. I still have to find some time and look up WLV tonight. It will probably be right up my alley.

Thanks again for all your help.
Mousy in Canada: good luck with all your planning. Sorry I can't be of assistance. Maybe you could rent points for a 1 bdrm and bring some paper plates/cups/disposable cutlery. It sure would would beat ($$$) renting points for a 2 bedroom.

:cool1: Welcome to the DIS.Your thread is one that I know a bit about....For years,we'd travel to FL and stay at the WDW value resorts-ASMovies,ASMusic,and last year Pop Century.
Also ,last year,I rented someone's DVC points so we could stay 5 days at OKW.Well, after staying at that beautiful studio for 5 peaceful nites, there's no going back for us.
We'll be going back "home" to OKW in another studio this November, for 12 nites, and can't wait.......Bought a member's DVC points. It's very easy to do,and I highly recommend it ....It is well worth it.And,OKW is an awesome resort........We can't wait to get back!
Enjoy your trip! :hourglass

Abba98: thanks for the info. We were in WDW 12/2004 and stayed at ASMo(loved it) and I assumed we would always stay in values. Then last night tmli posted about renting DVC points so I spent the day reading about this. It seems like a fabulous way to vacation for an inexpensive price. I just wonder why more people don't rent.

Is there anything you can tell me about OKW? Is there a beach area for the kids to play at ? I understand that they can't go in the water but it would be fun to play in the sand. Is there a place that you can purchase a refillable mug? Also: once you have paid the deposit to the owner, can you then call member services yourself to check on the ressie (add room requests etc). What area would you recommend for two adults and two children? We would love to be by the main pool (with the sand castle slide) but also close enough to the main building, bus stop as well. Would you recommend a certain area overy another???

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.. gonna be quick with this one (sorry).. 6 people is over capacity for a 1BR, and it would definitely be tight. You *could* try it and probably not get "caught", but it's more of an ethical "should you"..
All 1BRs come with 1 King and then the pullout couch.

No problem. You have it exactly right!
With the BWV and BCV you can walk to Epcot and MGM/take the boat. I liked staying at the WL cuz it really feels "Disney-Like/Magical" compared to other resorts I've stayed at, and taking the boat to MK is AWESOME.
I firmly believe you will get the reservation you want at the 11month window, no problem.

See I just see threads about my DVC and get all excited!!

2006!!! So far, so good, riu girl!!:) If we do have points left over this year, I'll rent them to you;)

Mousy, there are just king size beds in the 1bed:), and the sofabed in the livingroom is queen size....In a two bedroom unit, there is a second full bathroom with two queen beds:) There is lots of floor space in the living area...I'm just not sure if you would be issued room keys for everyone if you're over the 4 in a room...? (Occupancy limits are 4 in a one bed, plus one child under three...and there is always lots of discussion about it;))

OKW is a wonderful resort...we can't decide which we like better...BCV or OKW (we always stay at both;)) There is a sandy play area by the kid's pool..we always request a unit close to Hospitality House...any of the 60's buildings are great;) Refillable mugs are available..we've never bought them though. We just bring juice boxes from the room;) And the new slide is AWESOME!!:)

Hi All,

This thread has got my interest also.

I just returned last week from staying at ASMo and loved it :cloud9: .
I also did my annual tour of the other Disney resorts and was also thinking it would be nice to stay at either OKW or VWL. :cool1:

The one thing I would be concerned about is if a reservation is made in my name once I have paid a deposit, is it possible that the DVC member could then cancel and re-rent to someone else? :confused3

Also, how do you check that the individual actually "owns" the points that are being offered for rent.

I am hoping to be able to do DVC for my next trip, so the more info that comes up here the better. ::yes::

Thanks for starting this thread riu girl :wave2:

Another quick question about OKW - Is there a sandy beach of any sort?
Thanks,

I don't think there is a sandy beach (www.allearsnet.com for pics and reviews).. the pool just got updated with a wicked sandcastle slide though.
I've never stayed there, but we decided to drive through OKW in February when we were down to check it out to see what the "feel" is like.
...in all honesty I don't think we'll stay at OKW anytime soon unless we're in a point crunch. When we drove around it seemed really REALLY nice; well spread out.. but it didn't feel that Disney-like (IMHO). It did feel like a nice condo-community. Look on the boards for the best buildings to be in, cuz some would be a loooonnnggg walk from the feature pool. We will stay at OKW sometime, but I think we'll go back to SSR (for some reason doesn't feel as spread out as OKW *yet*) or VWL first. ;)

We have rented points 3 different times from 3 different DVC owners and had no issues any time. Twice we stayed at the Boardwalk and once at Beach Club Villas. It is the bargain of the century! I also couldn't believe it when I stumbled onto it! All three times we paid a deposit upfront and then the DVC owner would change the reservation to our names and mail us the document that stated our names on the ressie. I then phoned down to DVC Members line and double checked that everything was in our name and our requests were on the reservation. All 3 times everything was in order. You have to have a little trust and faith in people, but for us, its the way to go. We also do what most others do and stay somewhere else on the Fri/Sat night where the points are so high and then spend 5 days in "luxury" for little cost. Jo

Joanne, thanks for the info. I had no idea that a "points renter" was allowed to call DVC member services. But I assume that only the DVC owner can make any changes to the ressie??? The reason I'm asking is that we are planning on using Magical Express and was wondering if I could call DVC MS with the flight info. etc or would all the info. have to go through the owner? Also regarding Magical Express luggage tags, I wonder is DVC MS could mail the tags direct to my house or would they have to be mailed to the owner and then forwarded to me. YIKES!! That might not work since being in Canada, I wonder if I could possibly miss getting the tags (sometimes it take US mail a long time to get here, assuming that the DVC owner would be from the US).
I thought I had this all figured out, now I'm not so sure.

Jo

Hi Jo,

Have you ever bought two 5 day reservations back to back so that you can have a 2 week vacation? and does this mean that you would be changing properties up to 4 times because of the Fri/Sat thing? :confused3

I really like the sound of the DVC point vacation, did you find it difficult to get the times you wanted? :scratchin

Sorry for soo many Q's, I would like to know all the pitfalls before I go ahead and plan/book anything.

Thanks for all the info, this is great!!! :flower3:

We are in the same situation, We just noticed that we could rent points and stay cheaper at OKW for five nights then we could stay at CSR and POP like we originally planned. Now it says that it is 8 points per night, is there any other fee on top of that? Taxes? Maintenance fee? I don't know alot about the DVC but plan on learning more quickly...........Thanks for any help! This is SnowWhite's DH on this question, she has me hooked to this board now!!!! I have always been hooked on disney, but now hooked to this board too.

Hi: Great thread, thanks for all the answers. I have another, what happens if for some reason illness etc, a renter has to cancel their reservation, do they get to keep the points for a period of time and rebook, or is this a transaction that once it is made you have to go.

Deb.

P.S. Susy, "We live on a lake and our house is basically built in a forest and we have a bird sanctuary on one side" Can I stay at your house for peace and quiet, while you are at wdw, lol -- that is exactly what we are looking for in a few years when hubby retires, your lucky.

you know.. that is a great idea, to stay at OKW for 5 days, and another resort the 1st 2 nights.. I can get a 2 bedroom for 5 days for 110 points... is it a real pain to transfer from one place to the next, we would have a car so can we check out of one in the morning, drop off our stuff and check into the OKW that morning, spend the day in the parks and then just go to the new location, or is it NOT that easy.. lol.. this is looking good... :)
how is the transportation at OKW? what about the rooms are they quiet? do you hear your neighbours? I stayed in FW last time and it was great, very quiet and private, is okw the same?
thanks for starting this thread!!!

This is a great thread. You've all got me considering it. Does anyone know what it would cost in points to go Dec 5 to the 9/05? And how did you find out it was $8/pt? It thought it was always $10/pt? Please lead me in the right direction to find out all this great info.

it is 8 pts a night at the time of year that we are going to OKW. click on the DVC point charts ^ there just under the banner of "The TIMESHARE STORE" and it will tell you what points you need for the season in which you are going. Members are free to rent their points for what ever value they see fit, but right now it seems that $10/point is the average. So it seems for 5 nights I can stay at OKW for $80.00/night. What a bargin!!!

The more I read about renting DVC points, the more excited I get. I was supposed to be doing major spring cleaning the last few days, but I basically have been reading as much as I can about renting points and not doing much of anything around the house!!!!

To all those considering it, I suggest you read as much as you can before you commit to anything. The points chart is a real help. Initally, I couldn't make up my mind between OKW (for the peaceful aspect, that is so me) and BCV (for the Stormalong pool for the kids) so now I am hoping to go to both during the same trip (with a weekend in between at POP).

I'm still so new to this point renting concept, if anyone has any tips/suggestions to share, please keep it coming!!!!

cottontail: thanks for the comments about my house. It is about 30 minutes away from Peterborough, ON and PEACEFUL. We have been here since I was 22 and feel we will never move. We spend a lot of time in the nice weather outside watching osprey. The house itself is just a regular bungalow but the view and atmosphere, amazing.

Until last night we were just going to book the pop and the csr, but you really got us thinking about renting points and it turns out we will save about $100.00 that way. We actually live in ptbo too, so you are not that far away. Thanks again for getting us thinking!

Its funny, our 1st WDW vacation (12/2004) we considered doing this. I read up on it a little but unfortunately the points chart wasn't working that night and I never got back to it. We ended up staying at ASMo (LOVED IT) for 55/nt (general public code). I am now a little worried that the general public codes may not be available anymore (or very limited) so thought this would be a good option for us.

Please: keep the information coming!!!!!!

When you rent points you do not pay any taxes or dues. It's $xpoints and weekend are more than weekdays. You make a contract with the person you are renting points from. When I rent my points out it is a final transaction the points are yours and if you need to change you dates I will try to work things out for a date suitable to you. You haave to use the points up by the end of the DVCers use year. If a use year is June you would have till May31 to use them. Most people are willing to work with you if something happens that you can't go the dates you planned. Hope this is a little bit of help. The owner of the points has control at all times. Confirmation is put in you name and mailed to you from the owner of the points.

Here are the totals

Leaving Peterborough Oct 28, getting to Orlando on Oct 29 staying at The Pop Century 1 night 110.40 tax included. Going to OKW staying 5 nights starting Oct 30 renting points (assuming I can get $10/pt) costing 400.00

Total cost of accomadations= 6 nts for $510.40 tax inc.(from stay at Pop)

Original plan to stay only 5 nights splitting stays 2 nts at Pop and 3 nts at CSR
with a total cost of $772.74 tax incl.

Total savings of $262.34

Not too shabby!!!!! Now I can get those mickey ears I've been wanting!!! :earboy2:

Hi: I have been thinking of doing this for our next trip as well. I just have to research the dvc resorts to see which would be best for us. This would allow me to have my adult children come along and have enough space for all four of us. Thanks for the info. this has really been a delight.

Carol - we have never done a back to back vacation with 2 different DVC points rentals. We typically move just once during our vacation and spend the 5 "lower points" nights at a DVC resort and then do 2 nights at a AS or POR. We have typically posted our request on the DVC rent board at the 11 month out mark from when we wanted to go on vacation and have not had issues getting our dates. However, we have typically gone in a Sept which is very low season. The more you get into the higher seasons, the harder it is to get the days you want. I usually get hotel dates confirmed first and then start looking into airfares in case I did have to do any adjusting to the vacation time based on hotel availability. It is a little risky having your money tied up so early prior to your vacation as I believe one other poster did mention that once you have made an agreement with the renter, the points are yours and you could end up forfeiting them if you cannot go on your vacation. I remember the contract I had with my last rental that did state that if I wanted any changes, the owner would do his best to work with Member Services to make the changes, or if there was enough time, he would try to repost the points, but there were no guarantees and I could have ended up absorbing the entire cost of the rental if I couldn't go. For us, it was a risk we were willing to take...and luckily it has worked out beautifully for us all 3 times. Jo

Do you find that moving to a new resort is time consuming?
is it possible to move to and still have a full day in the parks? how long do you think it takes?

poohbear7
03-13-2005, 03:19 PM
When I change resorts I let bell services know and they pick up the luggage in the morning and it gets transferred to the new resort by 2pm that day.
I check out in the morning then go to the new resort check in and then go to the parks or whatever else we want to do. I find it very easy sometimes your new room is ready sometimes not. The room is usually ready when we come back from the parks.

Jo-Anne,

Thank you for replying to my Q's. It really helps when there is someone who has already done this. I am pretty much decided that I will to the DVC points for next trip, I am just looking over the calendar to figure out when.

Unfortunately, my son is going to be starting high school in September :scared1: (I can't believe it) and so I think I may have to try and figure out a time when he can go. That is my next thing to do (search the school board calendar for possible dates) I prefer to go to Florida in the winter as I like to "escape" from the snow, but am also considering going possibley in October (50th birthday this year :scared: ) as I have always wanted to go to the MVSHP.

Anyway, Thanks to all contributing to the thread, it looks like more of us Canadian DIS'ers are all thinking the same way. If we can save some $ it would be great. :flower3:

Carol,
Have you ever thought about going to Florida during Christmas school break? We are planning on going for a full 3 weeks 12/2006. The kids should have two full weeks off school and if I add a week before their school break they only miss 5 school days. Also, DH has stat holidays plus PPH's (personal paid holidays) in that time frame, so he can take 3 weeks off week but only has to use 2 of his holiday weeks.

Thanks again for all the tips on this thread so far.

Hi Suzy,

I would love to do the same as you ::yes::, but no way could my DH take off 3 weeks of work (he is self-employed, so any day he misses is an unpaid day :sad1:

I was just checking the school board calendar for Xmas dates, but as of yet, they are not posted.

Last year, the school was closed the week before Xmas, this year who knows! Xmas days falls on a Sunday, so it could possibley go either way (week before Xmas or week after Xmas?) I am not sure when they do the scheduling for the public holidays (any teachers reading this know?) but I would love to know a.s.a.p. as I am always in the "planning" phase of my next trip ;)

Do you know what the DVC points required would be for this time of year? (week before or after Xmas) for a 5 or more day rental?

I feel like "Dory" in Nemo, but instead of saying "just keep swimming, just keep swimming" I feel like saying "just keep planning, Just keep planning" :rotfl:

Hi Carol ,I hope you don't mind me answering your question. The points needed for 5 week days before Christmas to Dec. 23rd are studio 60 pts. one bedroom 120 at BCV
After Christmas to Dec.31 studio 95 points and one bedroom 200 points. When you get into Jan. the points are less.
Hope this gives you an idea.

I was all set to rent DVC points until DH and I just had a 1.5 hour discussion regarding it.

HIS thoughts:
1. There is bone cancer (my dad) in our immediate family, how could you even think of this right now? Wait until the 11 month window (10 months from now) and look at it again.

2. The union recently came into his work place and are making unreasonable (in DH's opinion) demands on the owners/management. The management is threatening to shut the company down if the union doesn't back off a little. The union is talking about wild cat strikes.

We have decided :confused3 to wait until a few weeks before the 11 month window and look at the situation again.

Its too bad I can't just organize this now since I had an amazing DVC owner willing to rent me 60 BCV points. I just hope she still has them when (and if) I am ready to commit shortly before the 11 month window.

Don't get me wrong, in the right situation, I feel that renting DVC points are a fantastic option. I really hope we will be able to rent points as well.

But please, please keep the info. coming about DVC point renting. I want to learn as much as I can. I am an optimist at heart and feel that there is a VERY good chance we will be renting points for our next WDW vacation (12/2006).

Just when things look good....... Life throws you a curve ball.

My own setbacks in the last 2 months....
On Boxing Day 2004 our furnace came on and immediately set off a carbon monoxide detector :scared1:

We called a service technician to come out (myself and DD had been feeling sick for a few days previously, but put it down to Flu like symptoms)

The technician turned off the furnace as he said the heat exchanger was fractured and it definately was putting carbon monixide into the house.

Luckily, we have great neighbours who loaned us electric heaters (temp was -22) so that we could keep some heat in the house (besides the fact that we have a Cockatoo, who needed to be kept warm, otherwise it is fatal for him)

On Dec 27th we started calling to find out who, where, what, how much it was going to cost us to replace furnace. The final choice (via Sears, who were GREAT at coming out same day to install new furnace) cost us $3000.00

I left for WDW on Feb 24th with my DS & DD.
DH stayed home. On Feb 28th his vehicle died. He had to get a drive to where my car was parked (Days Inn & Convention Ctr, Wilson Rd) and dig my car out of snow, so that he was able to use it to keep working while we were away. DH is a courier, he needs a vehicle.

Now we have had to do financing for new vehicle.

Just wondering what the 3rd thing to fail is going to be??????

So Suzy, in the meantime, "just keep planning, just keep planning"
I know you & I will get back to WDW, we just don't quite know when yet.

Hi Carol:

Thank god you had that carbon monoxide detector in your home or the results could have been different. I wonder why it didn't go off at the beginning when you started feeling flu like symptoms. Your bird was lucky too cause it doesn't take much to kill them, spraying cleaning substances around, cooking with teflon, or using a selfclean oven can kill birds.

I keep telling my husband if we could drop the darned GST, lower taxes a bit than we would all have extra money in our pockets. lol

We went last april, and now I have the bug again, and I can't seem to shake it, (maybe it is this cold snowy winter) but we just finished a room downstairs, and I forgot how much even doityourself renovating is costing.

Hi Deb,

I am very Happy but also surprised that my Cockatoo (named Casper) survived. I did know that fumes can be deadly for birds. We don't know why we were feeling sick (maybe it was the Flu) but it just seemed such a coincidence that this all happened at the same time ::yes::

B-T-W, Didn't the Gov't say they were going to eliminate the GST? (yeah, right) I know what you mean, it seems we are taxed way too much!!!

Once you get the "Bug" for Disney, it is hard to ignore it :goodvibes
I wanted to go so badly that I started selling items on ebay (kids toys, old VHS tapes) stuff that is usually put out in a garage sale. I managed to raise over US$2000!!!! This went to financing my last trip. Now I am back I am already thinking about the next one (actually the "thinking" started the minute I got there on the first day!!!! :rotfl: )
I am currently "thinking/planning" about renting DVC points for the next trip for the family(seems to be a cheaper option for staying on site in luxury)

I Just have to figure out when!

Good Luck with your renovating!!! :shamrock:

I know it also costs mega bucks. We had just got Sears to put down Laminate flooring on my first floor back in October to replace 20year old carpeting and was very pleased with the finished product, not knowing that we would be going back to them again in December to install a new furnace.

Another option re getting back to WDW is going solo?
(something else I am considering, will get me there quicker)

Maybe you'll get an income tax refund to help finance the way to WDW :cheer2:

And,resort switching is so easy.We stayed 5 days at POP,had Disney deliver our luggage to OKW while we went off to Epcot, then when we got to OKW ,it was ready and waiting for us..........A great system indeed.
How's it going with getting the points rented?Let us know!

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life.

About us renting the points, we have had to put this all on hold for now. I am still trying to read DIS everyday but my dads cancer is now terminal and I need to focus on him right now. Since with renting points you really have to make a 100 % committment to the DVC owner, I am not in a position to do this at this time.

But on a happier note, we are planning on a trip to Siesta Key for two weeks this December. If by chance we are unable to make the trip all I will lose is my condo deposit (20%).

I truly hope we will be able to rent points and do disney for two weeks 12/2006, but I just couldn't commit to a DVC owner at this point. We will relook at the situation as soon as we are able.

Suzy I am so sorry about your Father! ((hugs))

Does Disney move your food too? I am planning on staying at FW cabins for 2 nights and then move to OKW, so we will have a fridge full of food.. will they move that? In terms of moving from the cabins do we just call up to the front desk and tell them we want to move that day or do we have to bring the luggage up to the check in point?

I am really getting excited about the larger resort! Last time we felt the cabins were a bit tight for all 6 of us, with all our luggage and stuff.. Thanks for this thread!!!

They will move anything you need moved from one resort to another. Just call bellservice in the morning when you are ready to check out and tell them you would like your luggage transferred. Label the items you want refrigerated and when they come to pick up your luggage tell them you have items to be refrigerated. Your luggage will be at your new resort late afternoon. We have done it many times very easy to do.
