Ok in the new house we are breaking ground on in teh Spring I had planned a 12x12 scraproom in the basement across from the kids playroom ...
well in going over our plans to plan out our foundation - we decided to make the garage and house level despite the 12 foot foundation on the house (meaning bringing in fill) and as a reslut we will now have 1000 square foot area over the garage that we didn't plan on - and I said ohh we have enough room - we aren't going to do anything there - and he said - think of the big scrap room!
I know he just wants the basement all to himself (and the kids) but woo-hoo :cheer2: that will be a GREAT scraproom! :cloud9:
if only it would be done next month instead of next year! :sad2:

Egads! What you can do with that space...and all for you?
Suggestion...think about putting in some sitting space. Maybe a sofa or lounge chair. To begin with you have a comfy place to sit when not at the work table. I sometimes go in to my room and curl up on the sofa to read. Not that I have nearly that much space! And my kids come in and visit. I know the kids are little now and the last thing you want is them hanging out in your work room, but some day they will be older and having a way to talk without it being a big deal is a great thing.

WOW! Good for you! My original house wasn't even 1000 square feet!
The possiblities are endless!
I agree with Deb, It's such a big space! Make the most of it.
Love seat couches and club chairs, coffe table with Scrap magazines...
As you plan make a list of your "favorite things"
I can totally mentally plan out this room for you (the artist in me)
If you draw a blank, give a holler! I'll hapilly draw up ideas for you! I can already picture a Filmstrip Wall with BLACK Scrapbook page frames inserted in middle.
Ohhh I'm excited for you and envious! Gotta go get creative in my teeny weeny space!
Good luck with it all! Post pictures on house progression!

Dh figured instead of having my planned photo backdrop in the garage I can have it in there too! It is going to be open to the loft room which was origianlly going to be an office/tv room (Might as well include my office crap with the scrap crap now ;) )
Thanks for your insight - I will definately have to have a big comfy chair in there! Actually I am thinking that the chair we had to buy in the spring when I was big and prego w major heartburn (A HUGE chair and a half recliner) will have to go there! ;) I love that chair and DH wanted it for his 'man town' not happenin now! :flower:
Funny thing is our apartment now isn;t much bigger than that and there are 5 of us in it - so I will be LOST in the new house when it is done (if it is ever done - lol :earboy2: )
ohh and we had someone draw up or plans cuz we made a ZILLION changes to it - but this is the original that we used to spring from SOME of it is the same (not much though lol) but the look from the front is the same :) The garage is going to a three car which elevates the roof therefore making a ROOM!

wahhhhhhh
Dh just came home with a CHANGE of Plans - I quess he met with the 'guy' today (DH is the general contractor but the guy from the lumber yard is the one who does plans) and it looks like my room will be a lot smaller due to knee walls etc :charac2: I know. LOL
It will officially be 16x28 and is only going to cost an additional $1500 for framing materials.
I don't think i will be too :crowded: in there
unless of course all my DIS friends :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: decide to come :grouphug: and scrap with me!\
I will have to check out that ck now - thanks for the 411 since I stopped getting ck (never referenced it - always use 2peas!)

Patty, that's still a pretty good size for your room. Now it might get a tadbit crowded when we all show up some Friday evening for a weekend crop, but oh well.

Well I dont think that will be a problem as I am sure that-
Mommie2angels will be deep frying :mickeybar in the kitchen as JudithM looks on :earseek: :confused3
Nicurn will be trying to shop :rotfl: in my upstairs basement :confused3
Pammy Jo will be trying to coach someone out by the pool :boat: (if we wait long enough to actually get a pool otherwise it will be in the stream that runs across the property!)
CrazyforPooh will be fixing my flower garden :flower:
Groverfrom Winipeg will be sitting in a rocking chair on the farmers porch basking in the WARM sun :sunny: even if it is January :cold:
Spinning will probably be :dancer: dancing on the table
from all the :drinking1 I will be in the kitchen with the blender making!
Nicki Dahling will be trying to confiscate ::MickeyMo stuffed animals for her
collection...
Aurora19 will be trying to climb onto that table with Spinning too as I try to convince her to go do my :badpc: taxes for me!
Pauline wdw will be looking :sad2: :scared: as she tries to get those paper piercings done for that swap!
SO there will be PLENTY of room in the scrap room for ALL my dis friends you see! LOL

What an awesome house - I'd love to just have the front porch. The one thing I insisted on when we finished our basement was a scrap room big enough that I could put my desk in and a 10 foot deep table for scrapping. I've also got a nice little 13" tv/dvd combo in there that I got for Christmas from my dad and room for two if needed. But not highly likely :D I'm now running out of room for my "stock" of stuff since I just moved the old computer and put in a printer down on my desk so I can print things for my scrapbooks and my pictures right in that room. I think mine is about 10 X 12. My bedroom is 17 X 28 (and that is just the bedroom space, not including the bathroom area and the closet) so you will have PLENTY of room!!!!!
What fun!!!! Enjoy the planning.

Patty, the kitchen is one of my favorite places - I love to cook & bake!! Laura, can we have an herb garden outside? I love cooking with fresh herbs!
Patty, I really like your floor plan.

Oh - and Piratesmate who is Mr Blandings??
and cruise - you bedroom is HUGE
Thats the one think DH is cranky about - our bedroom is not that big (the extra square footage added on went to a hallway, bath, and laundry.
I think it will be fine cuz we have a large bath and closet!
And the floor plan is not really the same as the picture
The living room and kitchen are one BIG great room instead -
the second floor - isn't -
instead there is a cat walk between two loft rooms (although one is not technicaly a loft as it has a full wall and a door - my oldest dd's princess sweet ;) so the kitchen/living have cathedral ceilings.
We added a half bath and laundry with a hall near the garage - cuz we made the house WIDER than the picture -
we are going with only one fireplace in the dining area of the great room (One BIG fireplace with field stone through the cathedral -)
I don't think anything is the same now that I think about it lol
youll have to wait a year to see the picture or IRL I quess - lol

Oh - and Piratesmate who is Mr Blandings?? ........
I keep forgetting that I'm ancient! Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House is a 1948 film with Cary Grant & Myrna Loy. It's one of my all-time favorite comedies!
You can view a trailer at: http://videodetective.com/home.asp?PublishedID=860907 I love the bit where Mrs B is telling them what colors she wants. :rotfl2: If you ever get the chance to see the film, it's a hoot! :teeth:

pattyT, just let us know when move in day is, and I'll help us set up for a little soiree. Gotta have a little southern touch ya know!! Maybe invite Paula Deen to do a little southern cooking, play a little blues music, and we'll be set!

Patty,
Knee walls aren't a bad thing - you can install cabinet storage all the way around the room! Perhaps put your scrap desk in the center area offset like an island - just leave enough space to fit a couple of folding tables as necessary.
By the way, Pauline will be helping to make the frozen drinks as well as finish her paper piecings. :earboy2:
I think this is so great! :cheer2:

That is still a wonderful space Patty - plenty of room to work with. I just looked and mine is all of 8 x 12! Amazing how much I have in there though!
And just when should we start planning for this road trip? Let's see I could....hmmm....uh...
Ok moving on, I am supposed to be accomplishing some things at home this morning but am feeling incredibly lazy. Think that 17 yo DS of mine would notice if I skip getting groceries this week????????

Yes it is huge. We moved in before we got married and I was able to stand in the bedroom, with the furniture, with my wedding dress on. And there was still lots of room!!!!
