I am waiting too!
What makes you think they will not come out?

We booked the 6night 7 days deal...If they do come out, I wonder if I can use the code on that ressie????

We also booked 5 extra days, Im hoping to use the general code with!! If we get the same discount AP holders got, it will save me $180ish!

Count me in.
I'm currently staying off-site for 5 nights then POR for 4 with AAA rate.
But I'd love to make all 9 nights POR.
If the AKL standard rooms held 5, I might have bought an AP today.

I made a ressie at Pop, but I'd love to have the extra money to splurge a bit on souvies and dinner ressies! Heck, if the rates were good enough, I'd even bump up to a mod. :confused3

I'm waiting as well....but, the general codes are usually not as good as the AP codes.

I'm booked at Pop Century right now at the AAA rate of $84.15. The AP rate is $74...so, I figure if a general code rate does come out...it probably won't beat the AAA rate by much. It would be either $79 at the least or $85+...IMO.

Sign me up for the list. As I said in my Visa rant, I'd love to give Disney more money by upgrading my Pop reservation to a Deluxe, but I won't do it for rack rates. Come on Disney, give me a code, split the difference with me, and TAKE MY MONEY!

Liz
03-09-2005, 03:15 PM
Tiredmommy, isn't there some way to still get the dining plan with AAA? I think others have done it but you may have to book directly with AAA instead of Disney. Not sure. Good luck and welcome to the DIS!!!

From what I understand you can, if you book the whole pkg through them. I have one on hold for a few more days. I have room only through CRO w/AAA disc. I was just hoping to save a little more. If I book the pkg through AAA I actually get POFQ, which I like better.

Tired mommy,
I think I got a discount for my whole package by booking through AAA. It was about $200 cheaper than booking through Disney. I have MYW+dining and an extra night on my package and it was still less than booking online. Believe me I checked several times. :earsgirl:

It looks like only the room winds up being discounted BUT with the room booked through CRO I can not add the dining plan, so I have to make a change somehow. Either I need to book the whole pkg through AAA or change to direct through CRO. AAA would save $, but not much, around $200. My question is what if an elusive code comes out, then can the AAA pkg be discounted? If you know I'd love to hear it.

Thanks

If a code comes out it can only be applied to ressies made over the phone with disney - room only, no packages. If you made a room only ressie through AAA it cannot be applied, but you could make a new ressie directly through Disney. Also, if you made a ressie online @ Disney you will need to cancel that ressie and make a new one with a new deposit - they will refund your other depost for the online ressie. I hope this helps, I had to cancel our online ressie the other day to get a AAA rate and in case a general code pops. Carzy, huh!

Rumor has it that by this weekend or Tuesday the latest general room only discounts will be released. That said, Disney is said to have released 1,000,000 e-mail & snail mail codes today. I just got off the phone with a very helpful CM & while she did not see one in the system for me she did say it can take up to a week before their system catches up with the codes so she said I should check back afetr a week.

Super Duper is more like it.

I planned a short 3 night stay for the end of April. We booked the Pop because we wanted a short, cheap trip. But after all this talk of codes, I really got to thinking how nice it would be to stay at the Poly or the WL. I've convinced myself that since its only for three nights we should go for it, since we're unlikey to ever take such a short trip again - it may be our one chance to stay at an MK deluxe.

So now I'm ready to just fork over the extra $500 to stay at a deluxe even if a code doesn't come out. But I haven't convinced my wife of this yet.

This is what comes of all this code talk! Bad temptation.

I'm sorry, but, this is ridiculous .. I already have my room ,but,I am also looking out for codes for some friends who I planned to go with in May. If they can't get a discount of even $10 off her husband says they are not staying onsite and if they don't stay onsite they are just doing the MK and AK. Instead of a 5 day ticket, they are just getting 2 days and doing Universal and Sea world the rest of the week. If they are doing that, I would have to stay by myself onsite, since, DH cannot take those days off. So, I would probably not go. Here is why they won't pay rack rate, a close friend of theirs got an email and they could get a room at a moderate for $79 !!!! and they are not even going!!!! This so call "marketing" tool Disney is using is definately forgeting about the people that do plan to visit this year :sad2: My friends were willing to pay rack rate before they heard about the e-mail rate :guilty: I hope these codes come out soon !! :confused3

I can see why your friend's DH is irritated about the e-mail codes. I didn't get one either so I'm paying more for POP than some others are paying for a moderate. The AP & Florida resident rates don't bother me and I'm thrilled for those that got them because I know I don't qualify. But every time I read another post about someone getting an e-mail with a PIN I want to cry!!!! Good luck and hope it works out for all of you.

I was suppose to go May 28-June 4 and was getting POR for 79.00 a night. I got it off of an email offer. We are not going now because we decided to go for Christmas and heaven knows even with a good rate like that I can't afford to go 2 times, but it sure would have been nice.

We stayed at CBR for $79 a night in 2002 ( it was our first trip and we didn't realize how lucky we were to get a code) and we are staying at POFQ this May for $79 a night- I called and asked about any specials or codes linked to our name and the CM offered me this rate :Pinkbounc So yep that is a real rate for a moderate :wizard:

I can see why your friend's DH is irritated about the e-mail codes. I didn't get one either so I'm paying more for POP than some others are paying for a moderate. The AP & Florida resident rates don't bother me and I'm thrilled for those that got them because I know I don't qualify. But every time I read another post about someone getting an e-mail with a PIN I want to cry!!!! Good luck and hope it works out for all of you.

I agree with you. I'm irritated too. I know it doesn't do us any good to begrudge others for their good fortune, but still, I'm jealous. I totally understand the AP rates, but I don't understand why they reward FL residents with discounts when those people can go without airfare resulting in a cheaper trip anyway. And the email rates don't make any sense to me at all. I haven't been to Disney in 4 years - you'd think they'd send me something to get me back there.

If the rack rates are so ridiculously high that most people can't/won't pay them, and dicount rates are such a bargain that they clog up phone lines and sell out like a Rolling Stones concert, then why doesn't Disney just find a rate in the middle that will be profitable for them and keep the rooms full?

We Stayed at PORFQ in Feb for 89.00 a night with a code. Wish I had gotten the 79.00 a night!

OOps I looked back at my receipt and I did pay 79.00 a night! I forgot I applied a code that was better! See it is possible.

I agree with all of you, this is so frustrating!! I understand that Disney has to make money, but come on, this is nuts! The thing I have the most problem with is that for $99 a night onsite I'm staying at basically an upgraded motel 6. For $99 offsite I can stay at a much nicer hotel, heck, I could even get a suite for that price!
I would love to stay at the Poly or the YC/BC, but there's no way I can get my DH to put up the money for what he'd consider an okay hotel anywhere else. :( He thinks that for $300 a night, we should be staying in a 4 star hotel, no matter how much magic they offer! (Clearly I'm the Disney nut! :) )
The only reason we're staying onsite this time is because we're taking my little cousins for their first time at Disney. I've already decided next year to rent a vacation home if we go, I can't take the waiting for the codes thing again!

For $99 offsite I can stay at a much nicer hotel, heck, I could even get a suite for that price!Don't forget to factor in the transportation factor - I couldn't stand going offsite with a car or a shuttle - I love the Disney transportation - it is just so convenient.

If the rack rates are so ridiculously high that most people can't/won't pay them, and dicount rates are such a bargain that they clog up phone lines and sell out like a Rolling Stones concert, then why doesn't Disney just find a rate in the middle that will be profitable for them and keep the rooms full?Thats the thing - people ARE paying the rack rates, and the rooms ARE full, much fuller than last year.

Just remember, even though there are plenty of people on these boards, when it comes to the amount of people that are booking Disney rooms, we are still in the minority. I bet only 5-10% of all Disney travelers have even heard of a 'discount' code. I mention it to friends who go to Disney every year, even the AAA discounts, and they look at me like I am crazy - AAA discount? What are you talking about?

I was talking to a co-worker who goes to Disney once a year, and I happened to tell him that I stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge on my last trip in October - he said "Animal Kingdom Lodge? What is that? How do you find out about these things?" LOL

You're right, the Disney transportation is an added bonus, if you don't have a car or don't want to drive. We always drive and go offsite to eat and shop anyway, so it's not that much of a problem. We'll also be driving from Pop to some of the parks on our upcoming trip, because in some cases it's actually faster than using the Disney buses :)
I wouldn't even consider staying offsite if I didn't have my own car! :rotfl:

We're staying offiste for the first time in forever! Got a grat timeshare tryout deal of $249 for five days/four nights. It will be strange to be offsite, but I'm too stubborn to pay AAA rates, and too spoiled to sleep in a double bed instead of a queen or king. I think Disney is making a mistake by not offering better rates by now. We were planning (hoping to stay onsite for the last two nights of our trip, but it looks like we'll be at the Marriott Grand Vista for the week. I'm sure we'll eat offsite more as well.

*************
I don't understand this. What rooms are full? Other than during spring break? I've changed my ressies all over the place and not once was I told they didnt' have anything. Oh, they didn't always have AP rates, or AAA rates, but for rack rate, there seem to be plenty of rooms..or at least for three rooms like we need. One of our traveler's called SoG today, to see how POR is doing for our week (now it's May 17 - 24) and SoG have plenty left yet, according to the gal who answered the phone. Remember, Disney has some rooms set aside for travel agents, AP rates, FL rates, SoG people, AAA rates. So while the "code" area you are looking for may be booked, it doesn't mean by a long shot that the whole place is filled or filling up. Rack rate is usually always available, at least from the mod and up.

Is this it????

This is an actual code, however, it is an email/postcard code that NEEDS a pin #. Apparently someone received this code on an email and thought it was a public code and poisted it on the budget board.

It is useless without a pin #. I know this to be true because YEs I did try it and the CM said it was a valid code but I absolurely needed a pin # for him to apply it. Once again, I am having No luck with codes.. :sad2: :sad2:

Even if the tickets are all the rage.... how does that affect room prices/codes?

Aren't they two different things or are they trying to say because the ticket setup is seen as the 2nd coming, that people are booking rooms at rack rate because they are so giddy and happy about the tickets?

I'm one of those newbies who did get excited by the MYW package--I bought a 9 day PH pass with Dining. And I paid rack rate for CR. I had posted this on a thread before but for us...the MYW tickets are a nice way to add the options you want....but not really saving. We are actually paying more this year as opposed to last year. Last year (2004) we bought the park hoppers with options. The 5 day. Anyhow this year we got the 7 day...really only planned on another 5 day but the cost was only $8 more and thought even if we only walked into the parks on our arrival and departure day it would be worth the extra $8. JMO...they are all they are "cracked" up to be. In other words...not enough savings to not offer codes just because of the ticket prices.

I called and did get a very nice CM and as soon as I mention XXX code...she told me that I had to have a PIN to receive it. She said it was due to expire (4/16/05). She said that upon arrival that your would need the PIN because the code is unique to individual families. She went on further to check both mine and my DH profile and said there was nothing at this time. She wouldn't give me an answer about general codes saying that she was unsure of when or if they would be released.

I was told it had to be paid by April 27. We are not going to June 11.
Ill call and make sure we are all paid up before we go.
I could be charged more when I get there. Belinda changed 2 room ressies for us and moved our balances on both.......never mentioned a pin at all.

Id be really surprised if I get there and cannot produce a pin and they make us pay an extra $500.00 after they tell us we are paid in full. Id just say I left it at home. If I needed a pin I think they would of asked on the phone after 30 minutes of talking and waiting.

Last year we got a postcard with a pin number. It didnt have a letter code.

This year I used a letter code....guess Ill see when I get there in June!

As a matter of fact my DH told her we got the code online. There was no mention of postcards or pins at all.

As far as the PIN goes, here is my experience:
For our trip in Dec., I called and had a very nice CM. I told him I had read that some e-mail codes had come out and could he check beside my name b/c I had recently changed email addresses. I told him the three letters of the code- which were posted here and then deleted. It was not attached to my name but he applied it to my reservation. I told him I didn't have the PIN and he said he understood that- he said sometimes if you call and check a CM will give it to you anyway. He told me over and over not to worry about it- cms give out discounts on occasion and it would be fine. I kept on about it and he tried to find a PIN number but it was taking a while so he assured me again. I was really worried about the PIN thing, so I called back and checked my rate- it was the discounted rate again. Once I got the confirmation letter I felt some better- it said something about the discount but didn't list a PIN nor did it say I needed a PIN at check-in (if I remember right). Anyway, no questions asked at check-in and the fact that it was a discounted room wasn't mentioned. Now, I'm not saying use a code 'unjustly'- but it never hurts to call and ask about available discounts- you never know, you might just get lucky like I did! princess:

I received a special rate by calling and asking if any codes we're available for our stay - I received the rate of $79 a night for a mod - the CM did not mention pin codes , letter codes or anything - I had originally had a AAA rate and my confirmation letter said to bring my AAA card to show at checkin - The confirmation letter that I received after changing my ressie to the $79 rate does not mention anything about requiring a code at checkin- If the confirmation does not tell you that you need it at check in - you will be fine.

Just tried it & no go. The CM said I had to have a pin.....oh well, worth a try. He did offer to look and see if I had a pin associated with my name, but I didn't. He reaffirmed that the e-mail/postcard pins are totally random.....he thought they were selected by computer.

He tried to sell me on the fact that if I purchased the dining plan I would probably save more with that than I would with a room discount, but I'm pretty skeptical of that math. We'll be traveling with our 14 month old and probably won't do many sit down meals. The dining plan does seem like it could be a good deal if you plan to do sit-downs daily, but it bothers me that there are so many restaurants excluded.

Oh well. I just need to suck it up and pay the rack rate. But now I'm even considering the Doubletree......it's less than a moderate at rack & we'd have a suite which would be nice for naps with our DD. That is a huge leap because we have never stayed off-property before, but it's crossing my mind.

I've called twice. Both CM's said I had to have a mailer with a pin number on it to use that code. Argghhh! I'm happy for those of you who were able to get such a good deal, but I'm a bit irritated at Disney for being inconsistent. With 5 people, our cheapest option is POR and there is a big difference between $126/night (AAA rate) and $79/night.
For the record, I talked with Ayesha and Garrett.

Also, I asked Garrett if there was any way to tell if I had been sent any offers. He took my name and address to check and said that the system did not show anything attached to my name. He said to keep checking the WDW website and the travel section of the sunday paper, but said he had no idea when or if general discount codes would be released. He said it is up to the marketing department.

I agree mill4023! I don't begrudge anyone the good deals they have gotten - AP rates, FL Res rates, or pin rates. After all, I've enjoyed several great discounts (AP and GP) on our stays throughout the years & I was thankful for each one. I just don't think we should get a different story from every CM that we talk to. Either the code is good for anyone or it isn't. It shouldn't be this complicated.

I used to enjoy "the chase" and the wait for codes, but now I'm just getting irritated with the inconsistency.

She knew which one I was referring to, and said, no, it is only for those with a pin. I said that I had heard some people were getting it without the pin. She said (this is what scares me!!) that upon check-in, these room rates will change back to rack rate and people will have to pay full price, if they don't have a pin associated with their names.

I don't know if this is true or not - it seems everyone gets different information from CM's - but it's not worth the risk to me. I've decided to just be happy with my AAA discount and leave it at that!

I chose to believe that this just isn't true. I think that answer is just an easy way to end the line of questioning and to discourage people from continually trying to use pin codes without pins.

Anyway, if they do try to charge me rack rate when I get there, I'll argue with them. If I can't win the argument, I'll get a cheaper room. If I can't get a cheaper room, I'll pay rack rate. I suppose its a bit of a gamble.

I agree. I can't believe the computer programers would be so bad as to not be able to hook these rates up with the people who should be getting them. I assume that those of us who got the rate, somehow have this attached to our names. I find it hard to believe that the computers (who have a list of every person who has ever gone to Disney with me and know more about me than my spouse LOL) wouldn't just spit out those not allowed to use it. I used this same code several months ago, and had no problem at check in. Once you get a confirmation number, the people checking you in will go by that. When I have used an AP or postcard, that has been reflected on my mail confirmation. When I last used this code, it was not. I wish Disney would just settle on a price and let everyone get the same price. Perhaps if they did that, they would fill the rooms.

Who knows - maybe they'll charge, maybe they won't. Maybe it just depends on who is checking you in!! :teeth:

All I know is, I called twice, and was told the same thing both times. That's enough for me. Besides, I'm pretty happy with the AAA rate. I think $126/night is what you'd pay in any nice hotel in a nice area! :flower:

I keep reading people posting this, and I agree tourism is up, compared to how bad it has been, but I've had no problem getting rooms, except on holiday weeks. How do you know the rooms are filled? When they start building the Legendary side of Pop again, I'll believe it. I also think with the price of gas, that many people who would normally drive may rethink their vacation plans...and a lot of people drive.

We were there during the Northeast's break, when all the warnings were that it would be packed. We didn't go in the parks on President's Day, but for the rest of the week, we didn't find it to be packed at all. I was really surprised.

So, are the rooms really filled? I've not seen anything to indicate that..and of course that is just my opinion.

I think that the MYW packages are the main reason we are not seeing any codes. They want to give it a good chance before dangling any carrots. The only thing I have seen on a weekly basis is the "Family of four for $1500" that the travel agencies are boasting. The fine print is that the fam of 4 needs to have one child and one junior which narrows the field some. Heck, I have always been able to live on a $1500 budget with my fam of 4 anyway! With the ticket purchase change, packages may look more attractive to some than trying to figure out how to purchase tix on their own. I have never found that packages (to WDW anyway) could save us any $. Time will tell in the meantime, book at rack and pray! ;)

I didn't mean to imply that the resorts were full, just that they are having no trouble filling rooms at the resorts. Disney's computers can see at a glance how full the resorts will be for a given time frame, and if that falls below a certain percentage, they know they need to offer discounts to the general public to get the rooms filled.

What I am saying is, this year, that they are having no trouble keeping the resorts at or above that magic percentage.

But how do you know that? Where does this info come from? I'm very curious. I've heard from a couple of people who work there, (and one couple who just couldn't get enough hours, so they have left) that although they are doing better, they still have a long way to go. Lots of email and postcard codes still went out, as well as AP and FL codes. And, as I mentioned, I had my pick of resorts in May (obviously, I didn't try the first week, when I expect they will be hopping). Other than not being able to use codes/Ap's etc certain days, and the usual crowded campground, I haven't seen anyone having any trouble getting their room when they need it.

That makes sense. I was hoping the Disney VISA would offer something. BUT the good news (for those of us going to Project X in June) is that Penny said yesterday that our group is going to get some sort of discount. So hopefully that will work out for us.

So anyone planning to go to the Project X event in June that WebmasterPenny is organizing, make sure you are signed up for her announcements because she is suppose to be giving us details soon.

Doris--Everytime public codes are released some of the phone calls are from guests who've already planned a vacation and are calling to reduce their room rate. Disney has to decide how many NEW BOOKINGS a discounted code will produce vs just reducing the average room rate of guests that are already planning on staying.

Entertainment rate discounts are only offered if he hotel expects occupancy to be below 80%. Just becasue the hotels aren't 100% booked doesn't mean a hotel will issue discounts. Disney has to weigh discounting everyone's rates vs just closing some buildings, floors or wings during the very slow months. After 9-11 no amount of discounting would fill the roms so Disney moth balled entire resorts.

Although I'd think some discounts may be made available Disney is already discounting the passes with the new pricing scheme, offering ME for free and offerring the MYM dining. I'd expect more limited discounts than in the past few years.

I tried making a reservation for my daughter for spring break week. I understand 6 week notice isn't much notice but was surprised that the two times I called NO ROOMS were available; value, moderate or even deluxe.

I think a lot about that too. I often wonder why they don't offer more 'upgrade' rates or Deluxe/Mod only codes if the values are full. This would encourage more people already booked in the values to move up to a Mod or Deluxe, which in turn would open up more rooms in the Values. My only guess is that by the time the Values fill up, the Mods and Deluxes are full too. But the fact that the the seasonal dates vary between deluxes and values would indicate that this isn't necessarily the case. I'd love to know all the answers...

How do you know there are "plenty" of rooms? When we call up we're told if there is a room available not how many rooms are available. I don't think Disney releases occupancy statistics and all we're doing is speculating BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE; BUT

all of the articles in the travel sections of the newspapers indicate that travel is back up to pre 9-11 levels and Disney and cruise lines are included in the articles.

I wouldn't be shocked if Disney tried to release more of the room only discounts after the cancellation time for package reservations.

I guess the way I'm gauging it, is the people on this board. Other than "holiday" times I'm not seeing anyone having a problem getting a room at any of the resorts. They may mention not being able to use a code or AP at a certain resort, but have you seen even one person say, I'm willing to pay rack rate, and they have no room for me? Until I see that, I won't presume that the rooms are filling. As far as being back to pre 9/11, I thought Disney was having a problem before 9/11 filling rooms. Codes started coming out before then, and the discussion on the boards were that travel was down. 9/11 pretty much killed it, but I don't remember it being spectalcular before that. My question was and still is, how does anyone know that the rooms are being filled? I'm not saying they aren't, just asking how anyone knows they are? I've not seen large crowds on any of my 6 trips (this will be our 7th, in May) within this year, and we've been twice just in 2005, with another upcoming trip. January was dead, as usual, and Feb, during a major NE winter break was not bad at all...we only waited a couple of times, but only for the most popular rides. I hope that the late nights is wooing people back, but obviously, they saw a need for this gimick (and the free transportation), or they wouldn't be having it.

Lollipop Mom

And Disney gives the travel agency that info?

Well, I'm an agent and a college of Disney Knowledge graduate and all that jazz and all I can say is that the CMs I have talked to when calling to check AP rates for people won't tell me how the availability looks for the AP code, only if they have a room to offer me with it or not. I've had people ask me to check 3 different dates or any number of combos and not give me any indication of which is their first choice so I don't know which to hold for them (I usually pick the cheapest to hold LOL). If they take a day or two to call me back with their choice, it's not uncommon for it not to be available anymore when I call back. Even with just general rack rate ressies, I've asked before how availability looks and the most I've gotten is a CM who will say, "well I just checked to see if I could book 10 rooms and I can so there are at least 10 there for these dates."

I do know I have a list of clients who contacted us after they couldn't get AP rates for the resort or dates they wanted and I'm checking on them daily and so far there are a lot of weeks where there is nothing available with an AP rate but suites or DVC properties. I'm hoping that some of them will open up when the date the holds expire on holds placed on rooms the day the AP rates came out. From speaking with a friend who is an agent for a different agency, we had some names that were on both of our quote request lists so I know there are people who requested quotes from several agencies so I'm sure there are instances where more than one agency held a room for them after getting the quote request. Obviously they'd only book with one agency. Some people email to say they've already booked, others just never respond to the quote. I cancel anything people get back to me on and say they don't want but I know some other agents don't; they are either too busy with other stuff or they just don't bother. Between all those holds and the ones from people booking themselves who held one room in their name and one in their spouse's name untill they decide which one they want, and all the people who just plain procrastinate on calling in their deposit, I am hoping that some other rooms become available. I know I'll be dialing starting at 6:57 or so the morning after the holds expire doing the same thing I did the morning codes were released! LOL

I was surprised when one of the people traveling with us was told by SoG that they have a large number of rooms for our time span still available for POR. I never thought to put them in the mix, of rooms being held. So you have SoG, AP, FL rates, pin codes and all the rooms that people have ressies for that may not come. Are rooms also held by expedia? I know once I saw they had the room I wanted (I think it was expedia) and when I called, Disney didn't have any rooms for that time, and said they could not use those rooms. I wonder just how many at any given time would be tied up!

and just how would you know that? Do you have psychic powers? :flower: My neighbor hears general info, nothing specific, from his Disney sales rep, thats says that the projected occupancy numbers are good enough that they MAY not need to offer discount codes to fill rooms.

He also said that the $1500 promotion is extremely successful.

I have never said that the resorts are full or at capacity, or that people would be having difficulty getting rooms, and never meant to imply that - I stated that they are having no trouble getting people to fill rooms (not resorts!) and paying rack rate and keeping the Disney sales analysts happy with the projected numbers.

Look at this from the analysts perspective - I am sure that they have some magic formulas. Just say that this time last year they projected 3-6 months out that resorts would only be 50% full. This is too low for them, so they offer room codes to the public and even offer the 7 for 5 deal.

Now, they do the same analysis this year, and they get a projected number of 80%, This makes the analysts very happy, and they know from past experience that a certain nuimber or percentage of rooms will fill as the dates get closer - so they see no reason to offer general codes.

I am sure that there are analysts who pour over these numbers on a daily basis and make these projections based on computer models that they have developed over the years.

Again, the above percentages are pure speculation - but I am fairly sure that Disney has at least one person doing projections of this type.

I guess the implication is that if the attempted use of the code becomes widespread, Disney will "crack down" on those who have already been allowed to use it. At least that is what I inferred from the post. I'm not worried.

While we're on the topic, I had a thought last night. When I used the code, I was upgrading from a value to a deluxe - so even with a discount, I was putting an additional $125 per night into Disney's pockets. I wonder how many people who have been allowed to use the code have made new reservations or upgraded their existing ones. Similarly, I wonder how many people who have been denied the code were trying to apply it to an existing reservation and just save money. See what I'm getting at? What do you think?

Trust me, I'm missing no point..except I guess I've missed those numerous posts. I've seen them for Spring Break and holidays, and I admit I might have missed a few. Other than general codes, all the other codes are still being released (and my neighbor got a code postcard yesterday, so I'm helping her book). That leaves me to believe that they prob aren't 95% booked, since most hotels stop short of that booking percentage, giving out discounts.

Carol, I'm not arguing about who knows more. I am very curious, however, how anyone knows either way, beyond guessing, since I've been told Disney doesn't release that info. Do I think they are doing better (just a guess) than they have after 9/11? I sure do, but have I personally had any problem getting rooms in 7 visits in the past year? No, and to my eye, the resorts haven't seemed very crowded when I'm there. I've made my PS's once I'm there, instead of in advance with no porblems (including winter break week) I've walked on most everything, going to the parks on non holiday or weekends. I don't "do" the deluxes, so maybe that is where the crowds are. I have no doubt that the past 8 weeks have been record bookings with the new packages....or at least since 9/11. Is this record bookings for always..even before when Disney didn't have to offer any codes at all? I don't know. I'm just always curious as to where people get their info. No law against that.

Rob, as I told you in a PM, I was applying it to 3 AP rooms I already had, and got the code. Also, I find it interesting that you were able to get your wanted room, via the web. I wonder how many people don't realize, that just because they don't have your room when you call, doesn't mean they are booked. Many rooms are saved for SoG overflow (I was really surprised at what the SoG gal said about how many rooms from POR are being saved for them, during May as I stated earlier), AP rates, Fl Code, Postcard Code, and doesn't expedia and some of the other places have rooms? How about travel company's..do they have any rooms put aside to offer packages? I know once when I saw they had rooms on line, I called and was told, those rooms weren't released yet to them. So several rooms may be tied up and not released until you get closer to your booking time. It really pays to keep trying.

How about travel company's..do they have any rooms put aside to offer packages? Large websites such as travelocity and expedia block out rooms from Disney, but your local travel agent, or even many web-based Disney specialist agencies, mostly sell directly from Disney inventory.

Many agencies will, however, put a room on hold when you submit a request for a quote, so that if you decide to take that quote, the room is available for you. If you don't take it, it goes back into the pool after 14 days.

Thank you for the info, and for taking the time to post it. I wonder, at any given time, just how many rooms are on hold or set aside. Must be hard to run that type of a business. I think this explains why I was able to get my neighbors rooms for April 16-23 (using their postcard rate), which is our Spring Break. I wonder if some of the "held" rooms are now being released.

none, nope, nil ,zilch. The only thing I saw was the usual advertisement in our Sunday paper. It was just explaining how a family of 4 can travel to visit Disney for $1500........

I had a similar thought. I can't help thinking that even though a room isn't available at a discount rate today, that doesn't mean it won't be later. If rooms become available (whether because of cancellations or rooms that were being held by Disney and other companies) at a late date, I bet they'll be discounted immediately - better Disney sells them at a discount than lets them sit empty, right? So I will call and check every day or two, until the day we leave, to see if something is available.

CarolA, you have told me what I needed to know. I think I am officially giving up on codes for May. I'm going to stop torturing myself (& DH with all the talk about them). I'm going to pay rack rate somewhere and have a wonderful, fabulous, magical time!

That is the spirit...yes it would be nice to stay at a deluxe if you usually stay moderate (or mod if usually value) but with the codes you will only save a few bucks on a week trip (under $200).

NOW I KNOW THAT IS a LOT OF $$$ but there are other ways to save...(we were in the same predicament and said forget we are going to AKL and payng rack w/ myw...we just need to save a little more!!!!) Have a great time! :goodvibes

WAIT! I am by no means a code expert. (Being a DVC member I tend to follow this occassionally!) I was just posting what I read.... I am not attempting to forecast LOL! (If I could predict codes I could also predict winning lottery ticket numbers and then codes would not be important) :rotfl2:

I don't know the Mouseplant source, but over the years I have realized they have VERY good souces (seem to have lots of CM details) I would expect that if they were having record bookings they might have announced it to the CMs at the booking center? You know most call centers have goals/objectives and the employees know how they are doing against them. I would assume CRO works the same way???

I'm going to guess that something was released only because last week there were no POR Standard AP rooms May 27-30 (my dates) and this morning there was. Which I was able to book. I cancelled a WL Woods View AP for the same time period. I didn't want to spend the extra money for WL this time since I have to buy my AP renewals this trip. I wonder where my cancelled room goes? CM's tell me back to the rack rate pool. But where did my POR AP Standard room come from this morning? Good questions, way too many answers. I just hope my waitlist comes through for DVC so I don't have to move from BCV half way through my trip. These days weren't available when I booked BCV and I had to find elsewhere to stay. My own fault since I kept changing my mind and got caught up in the AP frenzy!

CarolA,
Don't worry.....I'm not considering you my new travel advisor (although I'm sure you'd be qualified :sunny: ). I'm just saying that I've decided to stop obsessing. Don't get me wrong....if a code becomes available I will certainly try to take advantage, but I'm not going to rest the success of my trip on it.

I wonder if Disney uses something like the airlines do for yield management. There are x amount of seats on the planes and the airlines are suppose to have computer models that release seats at the various rates based on past history, current bookings and other considerations.

If they do, the rooms in any status could change constantly just like seats on the planes.

Disney seems to be following the SWA Booking Model, If so I wonder what the "Ding" Program will be Named? "MICKING!" :rotfl2:
