I posted this on the Community board and didn't get a huge response.
I am making 2 photo slide shows for first grade and 3rd grade. I will need about 3 songs. I would like something fun and upbeat.

Well, I was thinking Disney until I went back & read your CB post. That made me Google lyrics kids music & I found this site http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/musicchild.htm with quite a list! Some have both MIDI files and the lyrics. They have a list of kids songs as well as patriotic, movies/musicals and old favorites.
I went to "Funiculi Funicula" because I've always liked the tune, but didn't understand the Italian. While I don't like the lyrics, it's a fun tune! That got me thinking...how about using some of the classical music that they used to use on Bugs Bunny cartoons? I can no longer hear The Barber of Seville without picturing Bugs Bunny & Elmet Fudd! ;) When my kids were little, if I needed to be out on a Saturday morning I'd put WPVI (channel 6 in Philly) on in the car as it comes in at 87.7FM...listening to the classical music that way was always fun!

Walking on Sunshine is a fun song...good beat.
You make me feel like dancing....Leo Sayer
How about You've never had a friend like me? (aladin)
Safety Dance...my kids love that one!
I will add some more if I think of any...I've been brain dead this morning! lol

I do not know exactly what you're going for, but anything from Veggie Tales would be catchy, provided the lyrics were acceptable for school. The Pirates Who Don't Do Anythign is a personal favorite.

HOw about the songs to Shrek-- either that "Rockstar?" by Smashmouth song from the first one or the "Accidentially In Love" by Counting Crows. I used to babysit for a 6 year old boy who LOVED the first one and you might get their attention because they would defintely recognize both songs.
good luck!

I've done tons of slideshows for my classes and my son's class over the years. They are usually for graduation. The songs I included have been:
Best of Friends (Fox & The Hound)
You've Got A Friend In Me (Toy Story)
Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride (Lilo & Stitch)
And my 6th graders last year requested "We Don't Need No Education" (Pink Floyd) Probably not a great choice for younger kids!
