Hi everyone,
I guess you found me at my new home. I am excited to be starting fresh here. I am ready to let go of the things that have occurred in the last 16 months. I am really proud of myself. I have lost 72 pounds since finding WISH. I could not have done it without the support of my wonderful WISH sisters.
This journal is about getting back to the basics. Diet, exercise, water, and doing it all with ATTITUDE. I am done feeling guilty for putting myself first occasionally. I will not justify the time I spend on ME, whether it is time in exercise. sleeping, reading, or doing absolutely nothing. My priorities are myself, my family and friends, and my job.
I have noticed that I have become passive and I have lost my sense of humor. I have been allowing the negative things in my life to snowball. I have been doing very little to stop them from continuing. I have been letting those negatives and my obligations wear on me until I am just getting through the day, and finding very little joy. No more.
My Plan.
I will exercise 5 times a week.
I will live a lc lifestyle, but I will not deny myself things I love. If I decide to eat off program, I will savor the flavors and not feel guilty. I will go back OP the next meal.
I will spend 30 minutes doing something for me EVERYDAY.
I will take time to play with my daughter. The laundry can wait while I play Candyland. She will only be 4 once. I will cherish her childhood.
I will take time for my husband. We are on opposite schedules, and rarely have time together.
That said, I have arranged for Katie's godmother to watch her on Wednesday, so Won and I can go out to dinner and a movie. I just picked up the book Wicked, and plan on starting it tonight.
I will post on what occurred this weekend a bit later. Stay tuned, I definately exercised the WITH ATTITUDE idea this weekend.
i hope everyone is doing well and that you have a good afternoon.

Sounds like this fresh start is just what you needed Beth! Good for you! :cool1:
I am sure you will MAKE good things happen if you stick with this. I hope to join you in your healthy living/recommittment soon. Right now we have a lot of "other" stuff to deal with, but DH and I are dreaming of a time in the near future of less stress and more quality family time. Can't stress enough how important that is.
I hope this week proves successful for you - you deserve it!!!

 to you and :sunny: for your new journal, Beth. I'm glad you've begun a new chapter in your life. I teared up, too, when I read about Candyland and Katie. That's how I've always felt about spending time with my DD--also an only child. Your time with her is precious and NOW is the time to make memories to last both your lifetimes.
Have a good evening.

Thanks for stopping by. I love you guys.
I didn't make it to all the journals today. I should have time tomorrow to catch up with everyone. I am sending :goodvibes to everyone I didn't get to today.
This weekend was rough. We have a new moonlighter. He is the research assistant to the med director of the CCu. His golden boy. Well, he is a great researcher and an incompetent clinician. I won't go into details, but he was unavailable for 2 hours. We were on our own. I had to call a code overhead. Unheard of in the CCU. We page the docs directly. When he finall came to the unit, our assistant head was there. Well, I laid into him. He was more concerned with the paperwork than the patients. I told him that he needed to get his priorities straight. That his negligance contributed to the situation. I let him know that I will be there IN CHARGE every time he is in the unit. He will be watched and held accountable for everything. The nurses will not cover for him and his shoddy skills. He asked my assistant head if she was going to let one of her nurses talk to a doctor in such a manner. Helena said,"Actually, I am writing up a Bravo award for her, and recommending her for the vacant assistant head job. I will back her judgement completely. We will be tracking your every error, and we will eventually make sure you lose your priviledges here. Never talk to my nurses like that again." I told you that I had some attitude this weekend.
I did not eat OP on Saturday. I had a piece of homemade apple caramel pie. It was worth every bite. Other than that, OP. I went to the Y this morning and did a personal best. I did 2 miles on the glider in 28:22. My usual time is 30:30. I burned 458 calories doing it too. It felt good. I managed a 2 hour nap, and feel pretty good. katie and I did a board game marathon today since it was rainy. I think she is catching a cold.
I am headed to bed now. I'll check in tomorrow morning.
have a good night,
Beth

:cool1: You go girl....Nurses rock!!!! I'm glad you got that support in work- I remember those days in the CCU when I tried to convince some incompetent intern or resident what was needed for the patient, and they would give me that "I'm the doctor; you're just the nurse" crap...please!!! Get out the dark ages, bub!!
I love your new journal and goals for healthy living. Just take it day by day and you will experience success overall!
I may start a new WISH journal too...it's easier to read without so many pages! Maybe it can become a yearly rule on this forum...each year everyone reevaluates and restates their goals in their new journal. :sunny:

Well, into day 2.
Today we have dance class. I am going to pop over to B&N while Katie is in class. I want to pick her up Where the Sidewalk Ends. She loves poetry. We'll probably spend some time this afternoon cuddled up with it. Then lunch, grocery shopping, and the Y. Today Katie gets to run on the track with me.
Meal plan...
B: eggs and tea.
L: Salad.
D: :confused3 I am leaning towards spaghetti and salad.
S: Strawberries and whipped cream.
Ok, I need to hit the shower. I'm :moped:

Hi,
Well, I wasn't perfect today. I am ok with it. I needed a cap this afternoon. I also ate a lc cookie tonight. I needed a sweet. Strawberries would have been a better choice, but I didn't binge, so I am ok with it.
I am switching things up at the Y foa a bit. I am going to try to break up my weights, so I am lifting daily. Today was legs, abs/back. 45 minutes on the glider. I'll do arms and shoulders tomorrow with at least 60 minutes on the glider.
I am excited about tomorrow night. Won and I haven't been out just the two of us since August. I think we may just go out for dinner. Adult conversation.
I'm off to bed.

Hello,
Well, I must have pinched my sciatic nerve. My lkeft leg is completely numb, but there is no pain. I did go to the Y. I did upperbody weights and 60 minutes on the glider. It was hard to get a smooth rhythm, but I managed 3.5 miles/741 calories. If it isn't better by tomorrow, I'll head in to the doctor. Unfortunately, I don't think I should wear my heels tonight.
I checked my month in review feature at the Y. I have burned 4561 calories on the glider this month. I am hoping for a good weighin on Friday.
Meal Plan...
B: eggs and 1/2 grapefruit.
L: Salad and yogurt.
D: We've decided on Mountain Jack's, so I'll probably have prime rib wwith broccoli and salad.
I need to clean a couple of bathrooms before dropping Katie off. I'm then meeting Won for katie's parent teacher conferance. Then we are off to dinner. I probably won't make it to journals today, but I am sending :goodvibes: to all.

Hi Everyone,
The date was very relaxing. We did end up discussing Katie's conferance a bit, she excells in her work, but has a tendency to talk when she should be doing her work or listening. No big surprise. The teacher thinks she is definately ready for kindergarten. Won found ot that he is finally out of Delphi April 1st, and he'll be working with one of his firends ater that. He is very happy about it. I think things may improve a bit around here. There was a problem with Won'd dinner, so they brought out a free dessert. Yes, I ate 1/2 of it. It was delicious. Back on the srtaight and narrow today. I have some of the feeling back in my leg, but I won't do any lower body weights without having feeling in the leg.
Plan for the day....
Start the laundry.
Go to the Y for 60 minutes of cardio and then take katie swimming.
Clean the bathrooms that didn't get done.
Meet my Mom for dinner.
Meal Plan for the day...
B: Yogurt and tea.
L: Salad and 2 ham and cheese rollups.
D: I think we'll end up at Mongolian BBQ. I'll do the stirfry without the rice.
Water will be at least 3.5 liters.
I'll get to journals this afternoon or evening.
OK, I need to go kill the laundry monster.

Beth - dinner last night sounds like it was very nice. After all DH and I have been through last week, we really realized that we can't take each other and our lives for granted. I am glad you and Won had some "couple" time to focus on each other. It is so very important to do that! :flower:
I am glad you are listening to your body and resting that leg. Kudos to you that you didn't take it as a reason to not work out at all though! :cheer2: That is what makes you successful in this journey and it is a reminder for me! Keep walking the straight and narrow Beth - your doing great!

I am in a foul mood today. Katie woke up at 630. I came downstairs to find that the OJ sprang a leak in the fridge. Katie then tripped me, so her hor chocolate spilled all over the floor. Won didn't do the dishes. I still have sheets and towels to wash. Katie trashed the bathroom. Oh yeah, I need to work 12 hours tonight.
Sorry I am so crabby. I am a bit overwhelmed. I am sipping on a cup of tea, and hoping to get myself in a better frame of mind. I weighed in. 197, down 1.5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I can say it is only because of the exercise, because I have definately fallen off program. I had 2 desserts this week. I am going to get myself back OP today. I'll take it a day at a time.
Plan for the day...
Finish the laundry.
Clean the bathroom again.
Go to thre Y for upper body weights and cardio.
Clean the living room.
Nap?
Work from 7PM-8AM
Meal Plan ...
B: Tea and yogurt.
L: Salad.
5PM: Cappacino and string cheese.
9PM: Ham and cheese rollups.
1AM: Yougurt and salad.
7A: MS bar.
Then I get to get up and do it all over again.
Ok, I won't get a chance to get to journals today. I'm sorry. Last night I pretty much collapsed, and didn't accomplish anything. I feel like I am neglecting the journals lately. I'll try to do better next week.
Have a good weekend,

Sorry you are feeling less than stellar. We must be related in another life because I was feeling like that yesterday. Actually at one point I wanted to sit down and cry. I am feeling better today. You will too after you get some of your chores accomplished. I actually wished yesterday I could go into work to feel like I was doing something important and actually contribute! How sad is that?:confused3 I felt like I was shoveling sand with the tide continually coming in yesterday. That feeling combined with the snow made it a bad, bad day. Really this feeling for you shall pass and you will feel back to your normal self. Get through the weekend and do something nice for yourself, whether it is a short nap or a cup of coffee.:grouphug:

Hi All,
Thanks for the hugs. They helped. I have 15 minutes before I run out the door. I guess yesterday was the 1st real challenge of my new journal. I passed. I did go to the Y and do 30 minutes on the glider. It was less than planned, but still 30 minutes is better than nothing. I also read Wicked for 20 minutes before I went to work. I also stayed on my meal plan. So I am happy with that.
I had another run in with the incompetent doc. I was professional, but made it clear that I didn't think his judgement was appropriate. I called the intensivist while he was sitting next to me. When Dolly(the intensivist) started to go off on me about why the moonlighter couldn't handle something so simple. I very sweetly asked if she wanted to speak with him, as he is right next to me. I couldn't hear what was said, but he was visibly shaken. Dolly can be not so nice.
Ok, I need to go. If work is slow, I'll try to get to jounals.
Take care,

I'm just catching up with journals. I think you will find with your new exercise plan you can afford a dessert here and there. Of course that's not a license to go hog wild http://www.livinglively.com/clipart/heehee.gif But you are doing great.
Yes you passed your first new journal test. I am really beginning to think that success is defined during the trip-ups. As long as we get right back on track, the trips don't do a lot of damage and the weight keeps coming off (maybe slower than we'd like).
Good luck with Dr. Incompetent. Let Dolly have at him!http://www.livinglively.com/clipart/director.gif

Hi everyone,
Sorry to be MIA, but we had problems with our cable modem. Comcast is really unreliable, bu it is the only game in town. Won said it ventually came back about 1230AM.
I did really well this weekend, no cheating. Yesterday, I barely ate-tea toast and a couple of eggs. I am just so nauseated when I am tired.I did go to the Y for cardio-45 minites/551 calories. I usually burn at least 600, bu am happy with that for a Monday Morning.
Wilderness, it looks like my least favorite md is getting 1st dibs on shifts because he is the director's lapdog. He is working at least 1 shift a weekend.
Plan for the day...
Go to target for a bday present.
Dance class.
Grocery shopping.
YMCA for weights and cardio.
Start cleaning the house.
Do journals after Katie is in bed.
Meal plan...
B:eggs and tea.
L: salad.

D: I am thinking chicken with my lc shake and bake, broccoli, and salad.

I managed to accomplish everything on my list. I did 3 weight circuits and 30 minutes on the glider. Meals were as planned.
Won just brought up a montage of Katie's pictures. He put it to music and it is a great slide show. He said the program was ridiculously easy. He thinks I could use it, so Katie would probably be able to use it too. the program is called Proshow gold.
My plan for the day..
Go to the y for cardio.
Clean the 2nd floor.
Take Katie to the library.
Meal plan for the day...
B: yogurt and tea.
L: Salad.
D: Chicken Ceasar salad.
I am going to read Wicked for a few minutes before bed.

That is always so much fun to watch as the kids grow up on film isn't it? I treasure our pictures and video tapes. Now if only I can get everything organized into albums. I figure I can do that when they are older, are with their friends more and want not as much to do with us! ;)
That is too bad that the lapdog will be there once a weekend. There is a doc I work with that no one really likes. He can be brutal to you if you let him. He did it to me once and I put him in his place. No problems since and that was 2 years ago. Maybe now that you have put him in his place that will happen to you as well. Good luck and I hope the situation smoothes out for you. It is hard enough to work that schedule of yours without any additional stress added to it.
Have a nice day. :goodvibes

Hi, Beth!
I am so glad you started a new journal and a new attitude! I am sorry I haven't been by here to say hello, but wanted you to know I am thinking about you.
Too bad you have to put up with that egomaniac at work. I LOVE that you aren't taking any crap from him. You are doing an amazing job of handling a difficult situation.
So, what do you think of "WICKED"? I absolutely LOVED it and am dying to know somebody who has read it so I can discuss it with them. There is so much depth to it. I read it the first time for the story and have loaned it to a friend for her vacation. But when she gives it back to me I am going to read it again for the allegory aspect of it, which I totally did not focus on the last time. DS11 and I love the music from the Broadway musical, too. Have you heard it? It is amazing! We are going to see it -- just him and me -- on July 6. Taking a train to NY and going to a matinee. It is a reward for him for his fabulous report card. Anyway, if you like the book, you should hear the music!
How sweet of Won to put together the montage of Katie's pix! Hope there's a pic in there of her and you playing a board game together, so she will always remember that you put her first. Funny, my daughter is 16 1/2 and I still crave the time with her. Thank God she still appreciates it. :) As they get older, it gets even better -- you can share their interests and support them in new endeavors. Enjoy every day!
Take care of yourself, sweetie. Have a wonderful day! :flower:

Beth, I understand your frustration with Comcast. We usually don't have extended outages but we often have to reset our cable modem (at least twice a week).
The montage of Katie's pics sounds so cool! Thanks for mentioning the name of the software - may have to look into it.
Your ability to stay on plan with your food and continue your exercise no matter what else is going on is admirable! Thanks for inspiring me to try harder today! :goodvibes

:flower: Good morning, Beth! How are you today? DD picked "Wicked" for her free reading book at school. . .don't know if she actually has read it, though. I've heard some of the music from the show and it's beautiful. When I get to Broadway again, that's what I'd like to see.
Have a good Wednesday!

Hi All,
The sun is shining!!!
I made it to the Y and did 60 minutes on the glider. i only managed 750 calories because my knees are bothering me today. I decided to take it easy on the old things. When my knees are creaking loudly, you know the seasons are changing. I am much more reliable than a groundhog.
So far everything is to plan, but I added a string cheese to the meals. I need to make a trip to the DS to pick up the Incredibles too. I'll have my salad from the food court at the mall.
I was thinking about the photos from last night. I KNOW that I have lost over 70 pounds. Sometimes I can even see it, but when I think of myself, I still think that I am 270 pounds. It goes along with the negative self talk that Doe was talking about. It is a constant that I need to fight daily. I need to acknowledge the changes I am making to my body. It just was discouraging to me last night.
I need to run,
Beth

Hi Beth,
Yes DO take it easy on your knees! We've all had enough knee trouble!
I know what you mean about negative self talk. When I fall into old eating patterns I see myself back at my highest weight, too. I guess those are the times we need to journal and remind ourselves how far we've come.
You've come a long way, Baby :cool1:
The photo montage is a great idea! I should do that, too.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!
Friends dropped by last night, with chocolate fudge brownies. I endulged, and boy were they good. We had a good time, but they just wouldn't leave. They were still here at midnight.
Yesterday I managed to find some new sports bra. I paid through the nose, but they are worth it.
I am trying something new. I am having yogurt and eggs for breakfast. I need something to get me through the 2 hour long workout I have planned.
Plan for the day...
Laundry.
Go to the Y for cardio and weights
Clean the last bathroom.
Help clean katies room.
Meal Plan...
B: Yogurt and eggs.
L: Salad.
D: corned beef and cabbage. I'll skip the potatoes this year.
Ok, I need to go get some things accomplished.
Beth
Edit:
I'm back from the Y. 4 weight circuits and 60 minutes (857 calories) on the trainer. katie and I then alternated running/walking on the track for 1 mile.

Well good news and bad news. The good news is that I don't have to work until midnight tomorrow. We are overstaffed, and they asked if I wanted the 1st 4 hours off. YES! The bad news is that our dryer exploded today. I made a point of being in the basement because I don't trust my DH's handyman skills. Sure enough, the motor burned out on it. I will be taking the wet laundry to the laundromat after dinner tonight. I am trying to be positive about it by thinking I will be able to finish Wicked while there. Unfortunately, I won't be making it to many journals tonight as a result.
Katie's elementary is having a carnival tomorrow night, I think we may go to that. We'll see.
Take care,
Beth

Last night, I stopped at Kohl's after the laundromat. I picked up a pair of jeans and a pair of Khakis, on sale. They are size 14. No stretch, just 14. When I started, it was a tight 24. Weigh in today was 195. I am down 2 pounds and it also gives me my new 75 pound clippie. :jumping1:
I also did manage to clean that last bathroom. :rolleyes2
Plan for the day...
Cardio at the Y. I will see what I feel like doing. My legs are really sore.
Clean katie's room.
Journals.
Nap?
Meal Plan...
B: eggs and yogurt. I am absolutely starving today.
L: Salad.
D: I am making rubens for DH. I'll chop up some corned beef and swiss cheese for on top of a salad.
I did finish Wicked, and plan on PM Cam. I LOVED it and I pcked up Confessions of a Ugly Stepsister last night. I highly reccomend ti.

It is weird. I started out the day so excited, but as the day goes on, I am struggling. Kate is overtired and whining today, so I put her to beed. I don't care if she is up until 10PM. I needed the break, and she needed the sleep. I ended up eating 2 Pepperidge Farm SF choc chip cookie. I haven't haven't struggled wirh cravings this much for awhile.. I did 30 minutes on the treaddie and 30 on the glider at the Y-659 calories.
We decided to take Katie to the Superfair tonight. We will eat before going. We are meeting friends there, so Katie will have Chloe to go on the rides with.
I am hoping to go to the Y tomorrow morning after work. I just want to do 30 minutes on the glider. I don't feel like today was good enough.
I'll try to check in sometime over the weekend.

Hi There,
I'm alive, barely. The weekend was uneventful. No major bloodshed to report. Friday, I was bad. i had 1/2 of an elephant ear, but it was sooo good. We had a blast at the fair. I have however caught a terrible head cold, and my throat is on fire. It isn't strep, just related to drainage. unfortunately, Katie also has it. This means I have been up with her. I am praying that she will nap with me this afternoon. I have decided to rest today, so no exercise to speak of. I will do some work with my balance ball later though. I am eating tea and toast. I may have some yogurt later. Food just doesn't appeal right now.
I am not sure if I will make it to journals today. A lot depends on Katie. I AM going to bed early tonight.
I'm sneding :goodvibes to all.

Ugh, today did not go as planned.
I accomplished everything on my list, but one. no exercise. That means that i have gone 4 days without exercise. Ugh.
I had 2 bags of groceries that needed to be put in the fridge. Thise were in the fron seat with me. the rest were in the back of the Blazer. I opened katie's door, and I grabbed the groceries and went inside. I came back out for the other 4 bags and closed the hatch. Katie wasn't in the back seat, so I closed the back door and my door too. I should have remembered that I had already closed the drivers door. Katie decided to climb out the front seat. In the process of climbing out, she hit the door lock. Yep, you guessed it. The keys were in my purse on the front seat. No Y today, and Katie wasn't about to go outside. She has been stubborn today. I have no idea where she gets that from.
Lunch was fabulous. I did have the soup, but I also had whole wheat fettucine alredo. Yummy :cloud9: I am terrified of the scale Friday. :sad2:
Tomorrow Won is taking Katie to school, so I can get a haircut. I am then going to kindergarten registration and Costco. After I pick Katie up from school, we are going to the Y for weights and cardio. Then taco salad for dinner.
I'm off to make some tea.
Take care,

Hi there,
I'm just here to post a quick update, and then I will do journals tonight.
I hd my favorite doc check me out on Friday. I had to have an xray, and I have a mild pneumonia. I am on antibiotics, and I'm starting to feel better. I will need to take it easy with the exercise, but I m planning of going to the Y tomorrow for the first time in a long time. Al I did this weekend was sleep and work. Work was uneventful. We did have the rush of congested heart failure patients after the Easter ham,but it is expected.
I am headed to Ann Arbor to pick up the munchkin. My parents are meeting me with Katie. They waanted to let me sleep today. I managed 6.5 hours of sleep on a Monday.
Food has been completely OP, but with a higher good carb count than normal. I have been having strwberries anf grapefruit foor added vitamins. I did weigh myself this afternoon. I have been panicking about my clippi, but I am at 194.5, so I will be keeping it.
Ok, I'm off. I'll catch up with everyone in a bit.
Take care,
Beth

Hi All,
I didn't make it to all the journals tonight. Sorry.
I did ok today. Meals were completely OP. I didn't go to the Y again because Katie is still sick. I am one of those people who won't bring their sick kid to school and daycare. We did pullout Katie's bike and I walked 2 miles while she ode her bike. We were both wiped out b the end of it and napped for 2 hours.
We had something interesting happen this morning. The 2 front tires of Won's car were flat. After it was towed we discovered that there was nothing wrong with them. Somehow all the air was removed from them, and the caps replaced. I am of course sure that it was PG, but there is no proof. Won is just so frustrated and down. I don't know what to do for him.
I need to go to bed. Have a great day tomorrow.

Hi Beth! I hope you & Katie feel better soon. DD just started preschool at the Y and she's been getting sick a lot. She's probably missed half of the time she's been there because I don't want her to spread her germies around. I haven't been around the WISH boards much lately & I'm sorry to hear that you're still having problems with PG. I hope that everything will resolve itself soon.

Pneumonia??!!! Oh my dear Beth, you are so overdue for a period of good health. I'll break out the super-duper-extra-strength healing Pixie Dust and send a truckload your way - make sure to share it with Katie, OK?
So sorry about the hassles with Won's car. I'm hoping you find out it was just mischievous kids messing with all the neighborhood cars. I did see a motion sensitive sprinkler designed to spray animals like dogs and cats so they learn not to wander in your yard. Bet a good spraying would surprise whoever's messing around with the car! :p
 for you, Beth. Feel better soon!
Hi Beth - I'm so sorry your having such a rough time of it. You and Katie seem to be fighting those bugs this year. I hope you both get 100% healthy soon. Take a break from exercising and get healthy :sunny:

Hi All,
I did make it to the Y. I did the weight circuits and 30 minutes on the trainer. Eating has been ok, except for an encounter with some jellybeans. I have been pushng the water, but I accept whatever consequences those sugar bombs have.
My plan for tomorrow is to get up early, start laandry, hit the Y for cardio. Start another load of laundry. Meet a friend and her son at Bennigans then go to the science center with the kids.
I probably won't make it to the boards until tomorrow night.
Take care,
Beth

Well, let's see.....
I managed to get all the laundry done and folded. I had lunch with my friend Cathy and her son, and we had a blast at the science center until Steven threw up in one of the geodes. We then decided it was time to go.
I am frustrated about my exercise. I know I am sick, and with the pneumonia I have limited reserves and limited lung function, but I can only manage 30 minutes of cardio. ugh. I was up to 90 minutes. I"Know" that I need to give myself a break, but it still frustrates me to no end.
I ended up eating 1/2 order of broccoli bites at Bennigan's. Defnatley not OP, but a tradition for Cathy and I.
B: Yogurt.
L: Broccoli bites and chef salad.
S: Grande cap.
D: Ceasar salad and ww pasta tossed with grilled chicken, onion, green pepper, garlic/olive oil.
If I need a snack tonight, I'll have one of the Hunt's no added sugar chocolate puddings.
I will check in tomorrow. Ugh, I hate Fridays. The only plus side is that I am now starting my every-other- Sunday-off. I only work 7P-8A Friday and Saturday. We also Spring ahead, so Sauturday/Sunday I will work 11 ours and get paid for 12!
Take care,

Well, the quote in my signature certainly applied this morning. I looked out the back window this morning and saw 2 deer in my back yard. They were within 10 feet of the back door. We live in the suburbs. We get skunk, raccoons, and squirrels. I have never seen deer here.
I weighed in today at 193. I am down 1.5 pounds from 2 weeks ago. I am amazed at this. I have been eating way off program, and not exercising at the same intensity. Must be true that fighting an illness uses up calories. I am certainly not complaining.
I am headed to the Y for some cardio. I should do some lifting, but my right knee and back are aching something awful. I have taken some motrin. I just can't afford to screw up my back going into a work weekend. The knee is nothing new, and we are expecting storms over the next few days.
Meal plan for the day...
B:Leftover cheeseburger.
L:Salad, 1/2 grapefruit, and yogurt.
5PM: String cheese and cap.
9PM: Salad.
2AM: Leftover pasta and sf pudding.
7AM: Yogurt.
I will probably not make it to any journals until Sunday night. I am sending :goodvibes: to all for a relaxing and peaceful weekend.
Take care,
Beth

You and Cathy have a food/restaurant tradition? :p I think that that's so fun. DH and I have a food tradition at a restaurant my parents always went to before my dad passed away in 1992. The restaurant has an extensive salad and dessert bar, and every time we go, one of us has to have a spoonful or two of the barbequed lima beans (!) in memory of my dad, and a serving of the bread pudding in honor of my mom. I know it sounds kind of weird, but when we stop and think of them like that, it brings back lots of good memories. You'll never be able to see broccoli bites on a menu and not think of Cathy. :goodvibes
Oh, Beth, I'll be thinking of you this weekend. I'm soooo glad you have Sunday off! Be sure to take some time for yourself, OK?

Beth, you know I love ya, right??
QUIT EXERCISING SO MUCH!!!!!!!!
Woman, you have pneumonia, a sore knee AND back pain, not to mention 2 long shifts this weekend! Skip the cardio AND the weights and REST, for goodness' sake!!! You are a nurse - you should know better. You would NEVER suggest this to a patient in your condition, would you?
Seriously, Beth, I know you want to keep losing and the extra exercise does help. However you need to respect that body God gave you and take good care of it. Right now rest is best, even if it's hard to slow yourself down.
OK, I'm going to get out of lecturing Mom-mode now. I'm sorry if I've been a bit harsh. I just want to see you get healthy as soon as possible. :(
On a lighter note, how awesome that you got to see the deer so close to your house this morning! That would take my breath away too - what a joy!

Hope you have smooth "event free" workshifts this weekend.

Beth - Congratulations on the loss!!! :cool1: :cool1:
You need to listen Doe and take it easy. It won't help you to hurt your back AND knee and then you won't be able to work OR exercise. It's not going to kill your weight loss to take a few days off. Just eat smart and drink you water and you'll be fine.

Hi guys,
I'm sorry I didn't do journals yesterday. I wasn't in a place where I could be honest or supportive. There is a HUGE RANT ahead, so feel free to skip it.
Won's mom is in the hospital with a hypertensive crisis. Her BP is 240's/160's. She has been hypertensive for years. Apparently, she has been so stressed over the situation with Katie, that she has stopped taking her meds. Won's dad called Sunday to speak with him. Won went over to the house. His parents know how to manipulate him well. Keep in mind FIL is a psychiatrist. Won comes home, and calls the neighbor to see if katie can visit for a bit. He wants to take Kate to the hospital to see his mother. It will help her get better. She stopped her meds because she cant see Katie. It may be just wha she needs to get over this crisis. I said no. He was saying, "She is my mother. She is ill. How can you be so cold." My response was<" She is your mother, and you should go see her. I am Katie's Mother and she will not be put in that situation. I will Not allow her to see you Mother under ANY circumstances. It isn't safe for her, or me." He wanted to take her into a CCU. No way. I explained that I became so cold towa4rds his mother when she pushed me down the stairs when I was pregnant, when she assaulted me, when she kidnapped Katie, and when she tried to kidnap her a 2nd time. If she stopped her meds because she is depressed over the situation with Katie, then she needs a suicide watch and ongoing psychiatric treatment. It is her responsibility and manipulation at work right now. He stormed out. I picked up Katie. I ended up binging. I have no idea how many calories I ate, but it was in the 1000's. I am so angry at myself for letting her get to me. I am not proud of the things I said to Won, but I was honest. He came home about midnight. We still haven't talked.
My 1st inclination today was to kill myslef on the glider at the Y today. I didn't. I just don't have the reserves to do that. I also promised to take it easy. I did my 30 minutes and walked for 1 mile. I am trying to focus on water and healthy food today.
Won and I will need to talk tonight. I am not looking forward to it.
I need to go get my daughter. I'll be back later.
Beth

Oh, Beth! I'm so sorry. :grouphug: to help you get through this. You did the right thing, but I'm sure that's cold comfort. You did a great job recognizing that Katie is your primary concern and his parents can't be using her to manipulate either of you.
You seem to already get this, but it bears repearting. This is HER problem, not yours. You didn't cause it and nothing you do or don't do will change it. She needs psychiatric care--she does not need to be able to use her health as a bargaining chip. Healthy people do not do that, and a person in that mental state cannot do anything but harm to your daughter.
Take it easy on yourself. Sometimes it's all you can do just to put one foot in front of the other and get through it.

04-04-2005, 12:11 PM
Beth, feel free to rant away here in your journal. It's a safe place where you can let out all those emotions.
I am all for forgiveness and compassion, but frankly, I think you did the right thing and I'm proud of you for sticking up for your daughter. This woman has no right to see or influence a little girl who would not understand her manipulations. Why Won can't see that is beyond me. I agree with you that he should be free to visit - he is an adult - but Katie is just too young to understand. A CCU can be a scary place for a little one, but to add in a relative who is mentally unstable and may say who knows what????
Yes, you had a bit too much food (an understatement, I know - I've been there myself :p ). It's in the past. Consider it a grand shock to your metabolism and move forward. Do what you can to release your stress and anxiety in other ways - easier said than done,
I know one of your prime outlets is exercise and I am so so so proud of you for holding back at the Y.
Oh how I wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I also wish I could be closer to give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on in person. Instead, this will have to do.

I am so sorry Beth. You did the right thing and you know it. Do not let Won's emotions cloud your judgements. Was her blood pressure unstable when she let the air our of his tires as well? :confused3 It is sad but he needs to make a choice in this and the choice needs to be his family, you and Katie. That woman is sick and should not be around either of you. His father is ill as well to continue to allow this all to happen. Shame on him because he is a professional who is supposed to know how to deal with these situations. It is really a shame. We have never been through anything violent like what you have experienced but my husband's parents have treated us/the kids very poorly and my husband will finally after many, many years of this, "side" with me but only for a short period. They get to him EVERY time and manipulate him back into their way of thinking. It has caused so much strain over the years so really I feel for you. It is not a pretty situation for anyone to be in. Maybe Katie should go to your mom's for the week? Just a suggestion. Beth you have handled yourself well in the past year with all this stress. Do not beat yourself up for eating overboard, who could blame you? I hope you two can get this resolved with Katie's best interests involved. Not taking your medicine is self-induced and self-destructive. Doesn't Won see that? Another manipulation from his parents. Nice.:sad2: Frankly it is his problem and his parents. I know that sounds cold but come on! He needs to think about what she has done to you/Katie. That is fine if he forgives her but to put Katie in danger is just not right. Hold your head high and continue to protect yourself/Katie. Hugs to you my friend. You will get through this. :grouphug:

Dear, sweet Beth -   . I am SO sorry you are going thru all this. It is so obvious that she stopped taking her meds so that she could manipulate everyone. "Oh, poor PG. She is so upset she stopped taking her meds. We had better do whatever she wants. Blah, blah, blah....." It is so difficult for your husband to see this because it IS his mother. Bottomline, he loves her, as he should. A mother's/child's love is unconditional. But it by no means gives her the right to see Katie. Hold your ground here Beth! It is so important. You ARE doing the right thing! :Pinkbounc
I am glad to see you didn't go crazy at the Y. Getting yourself more sick is not going to help your situation. Drink your water and take care of yourself. We'll just forget about what you ate yesterday, okay?!

Beth,
You have every right to stand your ground with your daughters safety and well being. My MIL is serious bi-polar. There came a day when I said no more visits with the kids and it was very, very difficult. There are times when I feel guilty (she is nearing passing on these days) but her sickness just is too much for my kids. You keep doing what you know is right in your heart. I can really relate to the cold, resentment feelings, too. I never had physical encounters with my MIL but very difficult emotional ones. I let her live with us for a year, I visited her in the hospital probably over a 100 times, but the one time I couldn't do something for her I was dirt. It went on over and over until I just closed the door.

Hi Everyone,
Won has apologized. He knows that I m right. It was mostly the shock that caused him to suggest it. He did go see his Mom, and she definately tried more manipulation. I won't forgive her for that. He then went to Ann Arbor to see his brother. Victor agrees with me.
Today has not been perfect, but it has been better. I have done my best to stay on tack, but emotions and exhaustion have taken a toll. Iam trying t make sure this doesn't affect katie..

I can see in your future a really great vacation...I wish that I could get to the House of Mouse now - because YOU need it.
When DH and I were in counseling, his father and his repeated interferrance and manipulating behavior were a constant in our relationship problems. Our counselor dubbed DH's father an "emotional hostage taker". Somehow having the label made us both take a step back and put his behavior into perspective. When DH could see that his father wasn't acting out of love but out of control, it was much easier for him to set boundaries to protect our own relationship.
Beth, you are a care taker...and a darn good one. But it also means that you take care of people at your own expense. I'm proud of your hard work and success in becoming a healthier size and your willingness to take a stand on keeping PG from interferring in your family's life. But this stress isn't good for you. I hope that Won can see through the drama and recognize what precious gems he has right at home. Protecting you and Katie should be his first priority.
I'm just now starting to feel like my recent bout of pnemonia is lifting (infection is gone but my stamina has not returned completely). Don't let yours come back on you...once it takes a hold, it just doesn't want to disapear. Please put yourself first for at least a few moments this week.

We then went for a picnic in the park. Grocery shopping. We also went to the Y. I did 2 weight circuits and 0 minutes on the glider. Today i the first dy I hae felt strong. It is a good feeling. I made dinner. Put Katie to bed, and now I need to tear the house apart to get ready for the exerminator in the AM.

Hi Beth! I've just been catching up - my goodness you and your emotions have been put to the test. I'm glad that you Won were able to make up and stay on track. Sometimes in the heat of the moment our vision becomes blurry and we have to take a step back before we see clearly again. That is probably what happened to Won. Good for you for standing strong on your convictions. You are right - this is her issue and not yours. I hope she gets the help she needs because she sounds like a very sick lady.
Meanwhile - you need to take care of you. I'm sending logs of :sunny: and :grouphug:

Well today was embarrasing. I made a flip comment to Won this morning about getting my usual period zit. Katie stood up during group time, and stated,"I have an announcement. My Mommy has a zit because she is going to get her period tomorrow." I love my daughter. I just need to keep reminding myself of that fact.
Obviously, I am deep into DZONE. I am exhausted. I missed my morning workout because I had to wait for the exterminator. The plan was to go after lunch, bur Katie and I both needed naps. I listened to my body for once. I managed to get the house put back together. Katie and I grabbed some carryout hummous with veggies and pitas for her.We had another picnic in the park.
I have managed to stay OP today. It feels good. I am also pushing my water, but the bloat fairy has come for an exteded visit.
Plan for the day...
Hit the Y for cardio and weights.
Laundry.
Shoe store for Katie.
Meal plan...
B:eggs.
L: Leftover hummous and veggies and salad.
D: Chicken taco salad.
I'm off to bed.
Take care,
Beth

:p That Katie story is one of the main reasons I love teaching children--it's all out there with them. Genuine and pure. You gotta love 'em! :p
OK, AI. . .well, a good friend of mine is dear friends with Anthony's mom, so even though he's not making a strong showing, we're rooting for him to go as far as he can go. We all just wish Simon would give some constructive criticism instead of mean comments. I've never been a big Constantine fan, but he's doing really great the last couple of weeks. I also like Bo and Carrie and Vonzell. Truly, Beth, I just like watching the whole show! :)
I hope it's sunny where you are--it's a beautiful day here in PA!

:bored: I'm still waiting for TOM to show up. My cycle is really irregular, so it could be tonight or Monday. I do know that I am majorly bloated, craving salt and chocolate, and exhausted. I can also throw in mood swings. I have been pushing water until I am ready to float away, and it is all going to help the bloat fairy. I did go to the Y for weights and cardio. I did my 30 minutes and got out. It was not my best effort, but I did it. katie and I did a dance party this afternoon, and we all went for a walk this evening. I may not be able to exercise for an hour, but I can do some extra here and there. I boiled some extra chicken when I made the taco salad, so I also made up some chicken salad.
I am on all weekend this week.
Plan for the day...
Go to the Y for cardio.
Bake some cupcakes. katie has a bday party to go to on Sunday.
Pick Katie up from school.
Nap and then off to work.
Meal Plan for the day...
B: eggs and tea.
L: 1/2 grapefruit, ham/cheese rollups.
5PM: cappacino and string cheese.
9PM: hummus and veggies.
2AM: chicken salad, strawberries, and a small salad.
7AM: yogurt.
Ok, I am off to bed in a minute. I am not sure I will make it back tomorrow, but I am sending everyone :goodvibes and :sunny: for the weekend.
Take care,
Beth
OK, so I weighed in at 195 even. I'm up 2.5 pounds. I do keep my clippie though. With a binge and TOM I expected worse. Cupcakes are made. I'm off/

Hi All,
I won't be around for the next couple of weeks. Well, I may be apble to pop into my journal occasionally. My sister is 10 weeks pregnant and has heavy spotting. She is on bedrest, so Katie and I are in Grand Rapids. I am taking care of her house and my nephew during the week, and my mom is coming up on weekends. Josh's mom is on vacation. She is retired. Whenv she returns from New Zealand, she'll take over. I won't lie, this is stressful. marnie and I aren't the best of friends, and the house is tiny. Throw Katie and a 6 month old in the mix, and I am way off program. They also only have dialup and it drives me crazy. Prayers would be appreciated, and I'll check in when I can.
Take care,

Well, I m back from my living hell. I will be the first to say that my sister and I have major baggage. Being my kid sister made her life horrible in high school, and she has never forgiven me. The last few days have been awful. I know she is feeling scared and horrible, but I was there to help. I became her punching bag. I did nothing right. They live on a very busy street and I couldn't let Katie play outside unsupervised, but I wasn't to take Cam outside. He had a cold. I took refuge in food. I'm up to 197. I also am going for minor surgery tomorrow. I need to have a fibroid removed. No big deal, just bloody inconvenient. It also mens no exercise for 2 weeks.
Ok, I need to get a few things done, but I will be around to journals tonight.
Take care,

The procedure went very well. I'm sore just like I would be with TOM, but it is manageable. I am taking motrin. I did take last night off, but I am going in to work tonight and I am scheduled for tomorrow. I am taking this a step at a time.
I have been so far off program, and it shows. I am at 200 pounds. Yikes. I am not allowed to execise for 2 weeks. It is really stressing me out. I am focusing on water today, and I will try to tackle food tomorrow. Baby steps.
I am sorry that I haven't made it to journals. Katie understands that mommy was sick, and is now better, but she is really clingy right now. I will try to catch up in the near future.
Take care,

Hi,
Well, I am headed to bed. This weekend wasn't bad. They took pity on me, and I had the easiest assignment all weekend. I was still busy, but it was ok. I think I may have figured out what works for Mondays. I come home and nap for 2.5 hours. Pick Katie up and do lunch. Katie now has swim lessons from 1-145. I spent the time walking on the track. I think the combination of nap ad exercise helps. I actually felt pretty good all day.
I have also managed 2 days OP. It is starting to feel like I am getting back in control. I know that I am not all the way back, but I am making improvements. I am taking my clippie down. I am at 203. I know this is only temporary. I am ok with this.
I didn't get to everyone. I'll try to make the rounds tomorrow. It is another busy day. Dance, grocery shopping, dr appointment, and a walk at the Y. I am hoping to squeeze a nap in there.
Catch you later,
Beth

Hi Beth,
I can relate to the kid sister thing. I get along really well with my sister, but she definitely holds major grudges for the mean things I did as a big sister growing up. I wish it could just come to the surface and we could get it overwith, but I doubt that will ever happen. Subtle jabs even come from my niece who has heard the history through my sisters perspective. I'm glad you survived. Don't sweat the gain, it was caused by extenuating circumstances and it will come right back off. You'll have your clippie back before you know it :wizard: Whoosh Fairy is on the way :wizard:

Hi everyone, Thanks for stopping by. I love visits.
Well yesterday I didn't do any form of activity. I picked up the living room and cleaned the kitchen. I also planned Katie's bday party. I am really excited for her. We invited 14 kids. It is a disney princess party, but boys are invited. I think we came up with ideas that won't weird them out. When the kids arrive they get temporary tattoos on their cheek nd then they can decorate their crowns for the party. I bought the gems to glue on and glitter and glitter glue. We will then do an obstacle coarse. I bought some green foam paper. They have to jump an the "lilly pads" around the castle moonwalk, climb the mountain(our old little tykes slide), go through a cave(parachute tunnel) go threough the maze(run through some cones) and kick a bomb into the snoring dragons mouth(Soccer ball into soccer goal) Fastest time wins a prize. They can do the moonwalk at any time. I also have beads for the princesses to make jewelry and the knights can decorate cardboard shields. We will also play simon says(queen says) for prizes. The cake is going to be 2 13x9 inch cakes stacked. I am also baking a 8x8 cake and cutting it into quarters. Each square will be put in a corner of the larger cake. I'll ie the whole thing, then put foil covered sugar cones with ribbon streamers coming out of the points on the "tower" of the cake. Graham cracker drawbridge, gum drop lattice work around the top, and cookie windows make a castle cake.
We've also bought Katie a puppy for her bday. Won is the one allergic to dogs, and it was his idea. He figures he is on claritan all year anyways, might as well make his daughter happy. We are getting a black male miniature schnauzer. They are less allergenic, and we should be able to pick im up on Katie's actual bday,May 17th. She does know she is getting the dog, but thinks it won't be until the end of summer.
I did go to the Y today for LIGHT walking. I walked for 40 minutes before I got bored. After my shower, I am headed to the bookstore for a book on what to do with a dog. We had them as kids, but I was never the one responsible. While my DH claims he will do all the clean u andtraining, I know better. I better be prepared.
Gotta run. I'll check in this afternoon and eveining.
