1st time to IOA - 3 adults (me, DH, grandma), & 2 kids (toddler & infant -turning 3 & 1 this year) - what do you think? skip it all together OR save til last & see if there's time OR do you think that kids will get scared & just send the adults in (i'll stay w/ the kids)? thanks - need your opinions - i don't want to get in there & find out it's really a waste of time OR that it's really not for kids that age.

Don't miss - but leave out the kids. It really scared my 3 yr. old GD in December. We had been in 3 times before with the older GK's, 6 was the youngest they went in and were fine. It's dark and loud. But really amazing and I love it, think you should try.

I'd either skip or save to last. Its a long walking/standing tour which is boring for most kids and tiring for alot of adults. I've seen it on some people's top 5 lists for the park but we only go thru it 1 out of 10 trips.

I was really looking forward to this ride, but was disappointed in it. If there is no line up, I would go on it just for the experience.
It is scary for little ones and they turn the lights off for a period. I would let the kids go on another ride (Cat in the Hat maybe) and try this one yourself. They would also have a kid swap option.

I agree with leaving the kids out--our DD was somewhat scared and bored by it.

Definately leave the kids our, it is dark with a lot of loud noises. My kids hated it last year, and they were 9 and 6. As far as the overall attraction, I could take it or leave it, depending on time.

Our friends went Christmas 2003 and said don't miss, but reading the above I'm not sure (boys 11 and 5, younger one can get nervous).

This was one of our favourite attractions at IOA, very dramatic, mythical and the water tunnel is amazing...don't miss! However, we had no children with us, i can see how it would scare some younger kids. ;)

Forgot to say that theres a 'magic fountain' near the entrance to this attraction which could keep the children occupied while you are inside. It gets up to lots of mischief which both kids and adults love!!! :teeth:

We love this show - very cool special effects - IMHO unlike anything else ! Last Aug we took my DNeph when he was 6 - very 'hesitant' kid about dark, noise, etc. When you enter into the first room you will know if your child wants to continue - the room goes completely dark, they start unfolding the 'darkness' of the story line - it is a good way to guage your child's reaction. There is an exit door on the far side of this room that goes directly outside if your child becomes scared - you can exit outside when everyone else continues on to the next room.
My DNeph grabbed my hand as everyone was leaving this room to go "deeper into the ruins" and told me he wanted to leave - he was starting to cry. The wonderful actor playing "Taylor" saw him and started talking to him - asked him if he wanted to help him (Taylor) be brave and find the missing professor. He encouraged DNeph from room to room, even let him hold onto Trident's spear with him as he walked through the tunnel of water - my DNeph was soooo proud of himself that he made it through - Taylor even stopped to have his pic taken with him ! Universal becomes more 'magical' every time we visit !!

I agree with leaving the kids out. I (mom of 3 kids) think at their age they will be overwhelmed. I, however, was not. I found it very drawn out in the begining but it picked up later on.
I REALLY think that a 1 & 3 yo will find it a bit confining and like I said "overwhelming" !!!!
JMHO :cool1:

Wow, how funny how different people view things differently.
It was so bad we literally laughed through it, and couldn't believe we wasted precious time on it... guess different strokes for different folks, but we'll never waste time on it again.
I wouldn't bring kids, either - it's long and boring, and might scare them.

my ds who is 13 was really looking forward to going, and he was so disappointed. It was sooooo lonnnnnng and boring. Maybe if they added an actual ride to it, that would help, but you walk, and you wait for everyone to join you, you stand until the actors preform, then you walk to the next area. It is on our skip list for the next trip.

b/c some people say "don't miss", i'm thinking that i'll send my DH & mom in while I stay w/ the kids by the fountain, walking around, etc. my kids may "get through it" but it doesn't sound like something that they'll enjoy at their young ages, 1 & 3 - say the kids will definitely "skip it" - thanks for the feedback. does anyone know how long the tour lasts? 30 mins.?

Hey...
It is one of those attractions that some people love and some people think is boring. Personally I enjoy it very much. I do think some younger children might be scared as it does get dark and is loud.

I took my boys through it at that age. The 3 year old actually cried. The one year old could have cared less where he was. My sons are not chickens at all, either. On the same trip he rode Tower of Terror with no problems and they have always gone on anything they are tall enough for. I would say just leave the kids out if you are not that interested in it yourself. It is not enough to really capture the kids in the story line anyways. When we were back there at ages 6 and 4, my 6 year old loved it and my 4 year old could have still cared less where he was. The fountain is very cool and they will love it. It will talk to them and spray water and stuff. Or you can just hang out in the water play area in the Cat in The Hat area. They can stay there for hours.
On a side note, I have always put my kids in swim suits and brough a towel. There are very many places to get wet in the parks for little ones and they will find all of them. You may even want a swim diaper. They have lots of things like that to keep them busy while adults ride rides.

We went on it and were all disappointed. It was also freezing in there (not a particularly warm day outside) so while it might be welcome in July were cold and bored before it started. The water tunnel thing was cool, but the rest of it, standing around while some hammy cast member tried to make you believe you were trapped in a cursed temple (and usually I do get into these things, but not this one!) was really terrible. My YS (5 1/2) got very bored as he couldn't see - not bothered by the dark or noises, just not inspired by the backs of people! And the animation at the end was frankly substandard.
There are many more enjoyable ways of getting cold and damp - any of the water rides for a start!

We usually go once a trip but lately we have been skipping it cause unless you get right upfront the little ones cant see and its just not fun for them at all. My youngest even when upfront doesnt care much for it. I like it the most out of my family...the water tunnel is worth it for me. If you havent ever done it...dont skip it, see it once.

It used to be better....but I still think it's a very unique and cool attraction to see, even if the storyline is a bit corny now.
Oh BTW, it is not a ride, it is a show with 3 different rooms.

OMG! My 11 and 7 yo boys made me leave last year. The 7 yo started crying in the dark room at the very beginning- it was awful. The longest walk out of an attraction to boot! Never again.
