I hope putting my thoughts and feelings on 'paper' would assist me in my journey to be thinner. I am 52 years old, have two daughters in college, and suffer from empty nest syndrom.
I started on the WISH boards at the suggestion of my oldest daughter. She thought I could relate to others who are trying to lose also. I feel somewhat like a fake on these boards. I signed on to the WISH challenge at 178#. I would like to get down to 145 as a goal weight. I see where some of you have had a bigger challenge than me and are able to support others regardless of their weight loss goals.
I am newly divorced (just over a year). My dd2 hit me with the statement coming home from my Mother's at Xmas that she wished I have divorced her father when she was in middle school. She is currently a freshmen in college. I thought I was doing the best for her and instead I was making life miserable for myself and the two girls. :confused3 :confused3 Hindsight is 20-20.
I currently take both antidepressents and anxeity medication. I have been on antidepressents for about 2.5 years. During my 6 month checkup today, I asked the doctor which medication were sabotaging my weight loss efforts. Both of the above drugs are the culprits along with my lifestyle. By that, I mean the fact that I eat my major meal between 7 an 9 at night. She suggested I try to get home earlier to eat before 7 and then exercise. Seems like I read that from alot of your posts. She said I should be thankful that my exercise routine has kept me from gaining alot of weight. I am currently only about 10# heavier that I have been for the last 10 years so maybe I am doing something somewhat right.
A little background on the depression: marriage should have ended about 10 yrs ago (stuck it out for 31 years though). My former mother-in-law passed away in Aug 2003, just before I dropped the bomb on the ex that I was filing for divorce (the one thing he did right was not contest is so it became final within 3 months of the separation agreement being signed. It probably helped that I let him walk away with his pension while I kept the house (with the debt of course). Two weeks before the divorce becoming final, my father passed away suddenly. He had been sick for about 2 years prior be he was doing well and it was a shock to everyone. In July dd1 moved to Maine to start medical school. Three weeks later dd2 moved to Virginia to start college. I handled it well until late Sept early Oct before crashing (my doctor said she knew I would crash, she just didn't know how long it would take)
I finally got serious about getting healthier after reading the thread on everyone trials and tribulations toward their weight loss journies. I felt with the right support, I could do it also. You have all been very encouraging and I appreciate all the kind words. I have used my injuries as an excuse in the past as a reason not to exercise or not stick with it once I started. I just finished 7 weeks of PT on my knee. The back of the kneecap has softened and it was not tracking right so I had pain going up and down stairs as well as just walking. It is a degerative problem I inherited. My mother has had both her knees replaced and my sister (1 yr my senior) is having her second knee replaced this spring. I am trying to avoid the same trap. I have also been in PT to strengthen the muscles in my shoulder to hopefully aleviate the pain from a rotator cuff tear. I turned 50 and started to fall apart. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
As an incentive, I have registered for the Mickey Half next January. I talked DD2 into doing it with me. DD1 is doing the full on Sun. We are making it a family affair. I will have to be in shape to complete the race in the alloted time. Maybe by working hard I can take off the excess weight.

Kathy!!!! The :sunny: is going to shine on you!!! You've had a trying couple of years to say the least...what a blessing to have two daughters who love and support you! The whole WISH team is here to give you encouragment and support through to your GOAL!!! :grouphug:
You are doing GREAT with exercise given your hours at work!!! Staying after long PT sessions and working more in is AMAZING!!! I know how you feel with the knees...I can't wear anything but supportive walking shoes...they were hurting terribly last week and when I got my new shoes they were 75% better...most of the popping is gone and my front knee pain while walking has really improved....maybe you could meet with a good foot clinic or sports shop and ask for suggestions...I heard a doctor once say that if he hears knee pain he immediately thinks of shoes or hip posture...I think mine is mostly related to shoes.
But it really stinks to have to deal with injuries while trying to up the exercise...so let's give them a little time to heal and I bet as soon as tax season is over you'll have more energy and drive to have a great losing summer!!! And after tax season...maybe try a hobby...you've been raising those precious girls for soo long that it's time to treat yourself....mine aren't gone yet but I'm taking guitar lessons just to give me some "me" time. Come and post to your journal...it really helps!!! And just give a shout for the successes or challenging days...we'll hooop and hollllar for you!! :cheer2:
You are such a GREAT support to all on the 150's team....I THANK YOU for that!!! I wouldn't have made it as far as I have in this last month without you!!!
ONWARDS & DOWNWARDS!!!

Today was another one of those mixed up days. While I was in the office this morning, for 2.5 hrs., it seemed the only thing I accomplished was field phone calls from clients wanting to know my schedule. I am working with 3 clients, 2 of whom have problems wlth computer programs (getting little or no support from the companies) who want me to see if I can help them. i prefer doning that to taxes anyway but does it have to happen all at once :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 The third client just got in their 3 new computers and wants me to assist them transfering data from their old machines and re-network the new computers. They figure it would be easier to come up on a Saturday because they are only open until noon and don't get many walk in customers then. The bookkeeper said this week isn't good. Next week isn't real good for my as Xterratri is off for spring break and will only be home for the weekend before heading south for the week. My schedule has to be flexible enough to work into their schedules. As the boss likes to say "Remember who provides the money for our paychecks." This is part of the reason I am trying to start my own business.
I am still working with the teamster client, their bookkeeper is frustrated by their 'wonderful program'. Seems they mandate the unions to use their software but don't have anyone at the international who can fully support it because it is a new update. It's amazing how they think the users can figure out something they can't do themselves. :badpc: :badpc:
Tomorrow, i agreed to spend 2 hours at a clients to determine if I can figure out their new program. Their support person in St Louis has only worked for the company for 6 weeks. I figure I can help as much as she can. They can't even get a maual for the program. I guess the software company wants them to pay big bucks for their technical support. Funny thing about that, they usually don't know the first thing about the accounting process. they reiterate what they find in their technical manuals which is better than nothing at all.
I don't find out about the Long Island consulting job until next week. If it goes through, I will only have about 4 days to rearrange my schedule to be out of town for the week. Oh well, wouldn;t want anything easy. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I went to the gym after work and completed the strength training circuit my trainer set me up on last week. I felt less stressed after working out. I should have no excuse not to exercise if I continue to use it as a stress relief valve.
I have signed up for the March Challenge. It will help me when I think I'm too tired to move to have a goal to strive for. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Just thought I would catch this up. Managed to be in the office on Weds but was not very productive. Was at loose ends trying to figure out what to do first. March 15 (corporate return deadline) is just around the corner so I should get focused soon.
Wednesday - ate reasonably healthy, drank LOTS of water, had PT for an hour and spent 45 min on arctrainer.
Thursday - ate healthy during day, went to gym and completed strength circuit, sat in hot tub 20 min and had 1 hr massage :) :)
From there, the day went downhill. After supper, I got a major case of the munchies - ate 5 (90 cal) reeses peanut butter eggs, and a bowl of Breyers rocky road ice cream. I wasn't really hungry but I couldn't seem to resist the urge to binge either :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Friday - ate much healthier although I was hungry all morning - 7:30 am appt threw my schedule off. I picked at snacks the rest of the morning (an orange, some baby carrots and a 50 cal bag of pretzels). Was very glad when lunch finally arrived. Evening went much better, ate supper before 7 and did not eat after. :cool1: :cool1: Urge wasn't there.

I spent 60 min on the stationary bike for a distance of 14.29 miles and an ave HR of 133 BPM. I have to think of something healthy for supper. Vegetables and chix, turkey or pork are probably the choices.
May go on the TM after supper so I can finish watching the current episode of 24

Haven't posted for a while. This has been a hectic week with funeral and being out of town for 2 days as well as being sick on Monday.
Exercise this week has been non-existant. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Have PT today so plan on staying at gym and using arc trainer for 45 min. Other than the 2 days out of town, I have eaten reasonably so hopefully am maintaining and not gaining.
Losing three days at work have made me second guess my new adventure. I need about another week before going on a scdhedule of working for my employer of 18 years and working as an independent contractor every other week. I will be on Long Island living in a hotel every other week. Will strive to eat as healthy as possible. (I am also doing an independent job trying to get a unions benefit fund audit ready) Am I spreading myself to thin. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 They also have a fitness center at the hotel and if all goes well i plan to exercise at least 45 min per day. I am also taking my stretch cords so I can do some resistance work also.
Off to work to see if I can accomplish enough today so I don't have to work all weekend (Lynne is coming home tonight for her spring break. she will be flying to Atlanta on Sun AM so I will only see her tomorrow).
Need to seriously get back on track. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Have settled into the hotel here in Hauppauge. The fitness center has enough equipment to keep me on track execising (only if I go down to use it).
Goals for today:
8 glasses of water - only 36 oz
30 - 60 min exercise - none
no non-diet soda - yes
eat healthy - except for reeses pieces
Since I worked from 6:30 am until 11:30, I didn't get on the road until about 1:30 PM. I was tired by the time I got here. Mapquest said it should take about 5.5 hrs. It did, they even took into account the extra time for traffic in NYC and on the LI expressway. The have signs up telling you which exchanges have bottlenecks.
Will try to exercise first thing in the morniing to get me energized for the day. I will be done by 4:30 so I should be able to exercise in the afternoon/early evening also.

Day three as interim controller. Job is exciting, challengeing and somewhat over-whelming all at the same time. Every one here is so willing to help with what they can. Former controller was a control freak so noone really knows everything she did or even how to do it.
Breakfast consisted of 2 frosted cherry pop-tarts. Not the most nutritious but food to keep me from getting a headache later. Will try not to graze all morning but am taking the chex mix with me in case I get too hungry. A little to satisy the hunger pains and keep the nausiated feeling from being too hungary under control.
Worked for 2 hours last night on an account I brought from home. Don't feel I am making as much headway as I need, but I'm trying.
Going out to dinner with some of the dept managers in the office tonight. Will try to eat healthy and make time for exercise when I get back to the hotel.
Have consumed 16 oz of water so far so I have to remember to keep the water bottle filled and actually drink it.

Last evening on the Island for this stay. This week has been spent putting out brush fires and trying to get a handle on their way of operating. Finally felt like I accomplished somehting today. Have to clean off the desk so I don't have to keep looking for papers I know I have had my hands on at some time this week. The top of the desk looks like someone brought in a dump truck of files and emptied them there. Have been busy all week determining cash needs and setting up a system so they will have adequate resources to meet operational needs next week while I am back in Syracuse.
Need to start drinking more water and less soda. I only like ice cold water so I should put one bottle in the freezer while I drink the other one. Next time I'm here I need to eat smaller lunches. I feel so stuffed after eating which proves to me that I really didn't need everything I ate.

Looking at the calendar today made me realize how much I have to do by April 15 and how liitle time I will be in the office to accomplish it. I think i need my head examined for taking on 2 outside clients during tax season. One of my regular clients also needs 6 month financials by April 8. I just have to take it one day at a time. If I get too stressed, I procrastinate and get in a major crunch to meet deadlines.
I am enjoying trying to start my onw business while working full time where I have worked for the last 18 years. It will be different but if I can get the business off the ground I will have more control over my income and my time off.
Have to keep in mind that next disney trip is May 29. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: It won't come any too soon. Hope to still have my sanity by then.
Todays eating has been better than the last few days. I cheated an checked the scale this morning and I have maintained my weight without exercise and without eating the greatest. Hope to get some time on the bike or treadmill tonight. Have been doing family's tax returns since getting home from work after working 9 hrs.
Am going to Panera's with dd2 for supper. She goes back to college Sunday. Will leave for another week on Long Island after taking her to the airport. :moped:

Have been totally off track for the last week. Work was hectic trying to fit in as many tax returns as possible without going nuts. Then home to do more tax returns. On top of that, I am doing an account on the side that I needed to work on at least 2 hours per night. There is an end in sight. :cool1: :cool1:
DD2 (Stitch) is leaving to go back to Virginia today. After taking her to the airport, I will go into work for about an hour, then drive to Long Island.
I am taking 2 accounts with me to keep me busy in the evening at the hotel. Exercise is easier while out of town. It serves as a energizer to keep me awake after working all day, so I can do teh other work.
Will start journaling all food eaten. See if this helps to keep me on track better.

eat healthy
go outside during lunch for short walk
Breakfast : traditional chex mix and diet coke (Hotel water is gross) :confused3

Last day onLong Island for this trip. Work is challenging but I don't feel like I have to drag myself in like my other job.
Will try to hit the treadmill after driving for 6+ hours today. I will also walk around the rest areas t stretch my legs during the drive. A friend said she stops a 1 rest area to get water and the next to get rid of it. I feel the same way on some drives.
Tomorrow, will be in the office all day trying to catch up on the tax returs that have piled up there. One more week n the office before April 15. Will have to stay focused to get everything done. I am back on the Island on the 10th so everything has to be ready for me to sign by April 9th. Should be a hectic week.

Decided not to go into work today. Secretary said there was nothing I couldn't handle tomorrow or next week. :cool1: :cool1:
Watched another episode of 24 while doing 30 min of level 2 random on the treadmill. Speeds ranged from 2.7 to 3.3 and inclines ranges from 2% to 6%. Also did 15 min at 3.0 mph at a 1% incline. My treadmill will not go below 1%. Just like walking outdoors, there is nothing flat. Only accomplished 1.86 miles but it felt good after sitting all day yesterday.
Feels good to be home and eating self prepared food.

I'm going to try journaling again and become accountable for what I eat. I seriously need to increase my water intake as well as eat better.
Breakfast - corn muffin with raisins
Lunch - ham on rye w/mustard, 20 oz diet caffeine free pepsi
Snack - 3 werthers and 3 Hershey Take 5 candy bars (660 calories)
Supper - Baked ziti (only ate about a third), 2 pieces of bread, 20 oz
diet soda
Snack - String cheese
Water - 3 8 oz cups.
I have changed my clippie to reflect I gaind back all but 1 lb I had previously lost. I have joined the summer challenge - part ii to lose 10 lbs by fall. I failed miserably on the first summer challenge. I have also failed to meet my goal on any of the monthly exercise challenges.
Time to stop dwelling on past failures. I have almost made it to the 50 % mark on the June exercise challenge. I'm not sure I will meet 1500 min but I will do my best. My daughters said I would exceed the time if I had counted more time for being at WDW from June 1 - 5. I want to meet the challenge with dedicated planned workouts rather than walking at WDW.
Time for some positive thinking and better eating.

Breakfast - corn muffin
Lunch - ham on rye w/mustard, onion and tomato, diet sierra mist

Supper - garden salad w/chicken & lite italian dressing, string cheese and diet soda
Exercised right after work for 48 min on the treadmill. Did not go fast enough to keep from getting swept in Jan but was able to maintain a average heart rate of 126 which is better than I have been able to obtian in the past. I usually only average about 190 bpm on the treadmilll.
Tomorrow I am walking to Wendy's with a co-worker for lunch. Will have to try to make a good choice of food.

Hi, Kathy! Welcome back to the wonderful world of WISH journaling. Isn't it kind of fun to keep track and see what you've done right? I try to find something at the end of every day to be proud of. I bet you are so excited to have gotten in almost 50 minutes of exercise! That is about 1/4 of the time we will spend walking at the 1/2 in January. Very cool! Just think, you only need to do that 3 times more than you did today (time-wise). I hope it seems do-able to you.
Keep up the great work, sweetie! We still have more than 6 months to work on our pace and our endurance. We CAN do it!

Today's food intake was reasonable today until supper.
Breakfast - corn muffin
Lunch - grilled chix w/rice, diet soda
Snack - 12 werthers
Supper - Went out to eat with girls from the office for the supervisors 25 year anniversary. We went to an italian restaurant. I had bruchetta (sp) as appetizer, salad with oil & vinegar dressing, chicken with sausage, small potato, summer veggies. That wouldn't have bee so bad but I also had dessert cannoli and a piece of cake with hazelnut filling and lots of frosting. :guilty: I really prefer my cake without frosting but there was no easy way of removing it. The cake was mostly frosting and hazelnut filling.
I was stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable. Came back to the hotel and hit the fitness room for 30 min of the elliptical. I still feel full but also feel more energized. I will have to mix my exercise up and not spend all the time on the elliptical (although I can raise my heartrate fast) and do some kind of strength training.
I will be driving home tomorrow. :bounce::bounce::bounce: I will only be home for a week instead of the two I had originally planned though. Two days I will be at a seminar, so i only get 3 days in my office. I haven't been there for 2 weeks. I will be driving back to the Island on July 4th. for another 2 week stay. Will bring Erin then so I will have to relax some in the evenings and take her to the parks and beaches.

Keep up the great work and us that gym!

I'm home :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Drive was tiring. Expected to be home in 5.5 - 6 hours. Actually took 7.25 hours.
Eating today was:
Breakfast - Usual - corn muffin
Lunch - skipped
Snack - werthers (too many), cashews (lightly salted-they didn't have unsalted) and diet soda w/caffeine (felt like sleeping instead of driving).
Supper - Teriyaki chicken bowl (chix, rice pilaf, almonds, broccoli, peppers and spicy orange sauce) and diet soda. Very filling.
During the drive I drank 32 oz of water as well as the pepsi. Am in the process of drinking another 20 oz. of water before bed which should be soon.
Used today as a rest day.

Gosh, I hate long drives! I can appreciate the need for the caffeine! ;)
You must be floating with all that fluid! Good for you. I wish I could be better about drinking my water. I try, so that's better than nothing.
Hopefully you don't have too much work for the weekend. :bitelip:

Snack - take 5 candy bar
Supper - chicken kabob, salad, amushrooms at Ponderosa Steak House, diet soda

Day was hot and humid. (par for CNY) Like most places, we had no spring. We have had very little rain for either May or June. Lawns look like it is mid-August.

Breakfast - butter rum muffin
Lunch - cube steak, macaroni salad
Supper - Cold Stone ice cream
Water - 64 oz so far.

Had a seminar in downtown Syracuse today. Figured as long as I had to drive by the gym I didn't have any excuse for not stopping. Spent 25 min on the arc trainer and then went to group training for another 60 min. The squat sets do in my knees and the trainer will not let me do the push ups on the ball because of the torn rotator cuff. (Hopefully habing it repaired the 2nd week of August).
Todays meals consisted of:
Breakfast - meal replacement bar
Lunch - Spicy Asian BBQ beef sandwich, Asian salad (which I didn't eat), slice of raisin bread w/ a little butter
Supper - cheddar broccoli soup, 1/2 smoked ham of rye w/mustard, tomato and onion, diet pepsi.
Dessert - wedge of watermelon.
Water - about 75 ozs
Had a great desire to eat the last Take 5 candy bar but decided I would not eat past 8 PM. Decided to drink another 25 oz of water instead.

Had seminar again today. Actually learned some things that should make my work a little easier and even faster to complete.
Food for today:
Breakfast cheerios with 1%milk and splenda
Snack Apex meal replacement bar (150 Cal)
Lunch Creole chix sandwich (didn't eat the roll), Spicy waffle fries (did eat) :guilty: :guilty:
Supper Rice pilaf w/ pine nuts
Water About 60 oz.
After dinner snack diet soda (wanted ice cream)
Debated with self about the exercise. It was too hot and humid to take a walk. Thought I would go for a bike ride. Rode 10 miles in 45 min. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc It felt cool until I stopped and then I was dripping sweat.

Need to get better and more consistent with the water. Didn't get to office until 12:15 and then didn't accomplish anything. Need to buckle down tomorrow and I am leaving town for another 2 weeks starting July 4th. Don't want to work this weekend to get caught up.
Got home from massage around 6:15, took Erin to get supper, did not exercise.

Hi, Kathy! Okay, so you must think I am a total idiot for calling you "Nancy" in my journal. Sorry -- of course I know you are Kathy from upstate NY. ;) What was I thinking? :confused3
Anyway, thank you so much for stopping by my journal to encourage me. I only worked 4.5 hours today. Had a doctors appt at 12:15 and did not get out of there until 4 pm. so much for a short appt. Because of that my only meals were breakfast at 7 am and a 100 cal snack at 10. The doctor told me to tell the imaging people that my last food was at 9 if they asked. I ended up having a CT scan to try and determine why I am having sharp pains in my side. They thought possibly appendisitis. They still don't know why but the pains are still there. They said they would be there tomorrow if the pain got worse.
[/SIZE]Maybe todays eating schedule will cause the scale to finally move.
Haven't done any exercise since Tuesdays bike ride but have been trying to eat properly. Todays food intake:
Breakfast - cherios w/1% mik & spenda
Snack - 100 snack pack of cinnamon grahams
Lunch - 32 oz of sugarfree crystal light with the CT scan cocktail mixed in. The worse thing about it was I detest lemons and couldn't even drink a little water to get the horrid taste out of my mouth.
Snack - banana
Supper - Charley's steakery philly cheese sandwich with a little hot sauce for flavor, diet pepsi.
Am managing to limit myself to one soda a day. Prefer to have caffeine free but usually the stores don't have it in the singles. Next week will attempt to cut out all soda. Will have to drink lots of water while away.
Need to get back to exercising. It would be easier without the pain in my side. Hopefully it will go away. I would hate for it to get worse while down on the island. If that happens will probably be making a fast trip home.
Hi Kathy
Thanks for coming by my journal and encouraging me. I really needed it.
I don't think I have ever had a CT scan, however, I have had other unpleasant procedures that involved drinking something nasty (they were/are due to me having ulcerative colitis). I had an upper GI one time and I had to drink some sort of Barium concoction. Then they had me drink some kind of turbolax drink to get the radioactive stuff out of me. The barium was cherry flavored and was quite yummy, the turbolax on the other hand was terrible :crazy2:. I have also had many colonoscopies, and I don't know if you know what I am talking about but they give you a huge container of this nasty salty junk that you have to drink. Hate IT  . Anyway, before I tell you my whole medical history I guess I shoud just say. I know how you feel girl :teeth: ! I hope they found out what is causing your pain.
Sending you prayers and pixie dust! :wizard:

Sounds like things have been interesting to say the least for you...sorry to hear that. Are you feeling better today? I hope so...
Good for you to take the bike ride. It's so hard to fit exercise into our busy, busy lives, isn't it? Will you have an exercise facility while you are away? I hope so... boy, doesn't that help?
Don't worry about the scale, how are your clothes feeling? Sometimes that is a better test...(sometimes not  :teeth: ). But that worked for me ALOT!
Keep up the great work with your eating. Hope things go well for you while your away. :flower:

I need to kick up trying to lose these extra pounds. I have to figure out why I can only manage one good week at a time.
Goals for today:
Find missing file at office
Drink 60 ozs of water
No ice cream
No soda
Eat healthy
Exercise, exercise, exercise
It is currently raining. Will head into office to find file and pick up other info needed to meet deadlines for the 15th. Will take stuff to Long Island next week to get it done.

Today's plan was not very sucessful. No exercise, not much water and too much soda.
Breakfast - honey wheat & oat bagel, small banana
Lunch - Applebee's smothered chix with two helping of steamed veggies instead of the garlic mashed potatoes
Snack - string cheese and 6 almond M&M's
Supper - chips and con queso dip :guilty: :guilty:
Did follow thru with no ice cream.
Self image is still low. Desparately need to lose weight and string some good weeks together.
Goals for tomorrow - exercise as soon as I get up and then again after getting to the hotel.
Drink water instead of soda.
Eat reasonably

Hi Kathy,
I know what you mean about the self image thingy. That is why I asked you how it was coming along. Like I am always told the only thing you can do is reinforce with positive mental notations.
Well, don't worry if you eat something you are not supposed to, and do not exercise. You will. Remember, you are worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally home :cool1: :cool1:
After a trip like today's, I wonder why I love the work I do down on Long Island. DD2 and i left the hotel at 1 pm, stopped for a late lunch/supper for 1/2 hour and got home at 11 PM. It should have only taken about 6 hours not 10. It took us 3 hours to go 10 mile last Sunday night trying to get across the GW bridge and onto the Island. There has to be an easier way.
Have been MIA. When DD2 goes with me, the internet is hooked to her computer. I get to use it for about 45 min each night while she goes to the hot tub and takes a shower upon returning. Even though they advertise high speed interntet, it takes forever for the pages to come up. I also have to change the log in and that takes forever also. I tried to post Wed night and accidently hit return and my post evaporated.
DD2 has suggested I start the SB diet while I am home recuperating from shoulder surgery. She will have to do the cooking as I am very right handed and the surgery is on my right shoulder. It gives tme th opportunity to be home for 2 weeks solid.
I am currently scheduled to be home for 1 week and 1 day. I will drive back to the Island on July 26 after dropping both DD's at the airport. DD1 is taking DD2 to WDW for 5 days to celebrate her 19th birthday. I was invited but have too much work to do. (Will it ever slow down?)
Eating and exercise the last three weeks have been terrible. :guilty: I have been in a mental slump with the attitude, what difference will it make. I know in my heart I will think much better of myself and my looks if I lose the weight, but keek losing sight of that fact. My schedule is getting the best of me. I am actually looking forward to the surgery to force me into a little downtime. Kind of a perverted way of looking at it, but I need all the help I can get.
Will try to get some exercise in and eat better this coming week.

Today is a new day and the humidity level is finally reasonable (for today at least).
Goals for today:
Water - 60 oz
Food - as healthy as possible (depending on where DD2 wants to eat for her 19th birthday dinner)
Exercise - walk 3 miles or ride bike 12 miles
Soda - no more than 20 oz.
The last 2 days hve been good eating days except the trip to Coldstone Creamery last night. Soda consumption has been limited to 1 per day and water has been adequate. Being in the office and having really :cold: water available helps. I put a water bottle in the freezer when I get home an leave it there until it starts to freeze. I like my water cold.
Have been feeling somewhat depressed. I like being home and having alot of choices for eating, but I hate going into the office. I like the work I do there but the secretary's attitude I can do without. She is the boss's daughter, has been there longer than I have (25 yrs compared to my 18) and is jealous of my coming and going whenever I want. I had to go to her father to get a new adding machine ordered because she told me I could use the old one on the extra desk. Mine seems to miss digits in the numbers so i couldn't really tell the totals. She ordered a new machine for herself even though she rarely uses one. I use mine constantly, when not on the computer. She has been very cool to me because I went over her to get the new machine. The problem is there are only the3 of us in the office.
Erin is excited about her birthday but apprehensive about meeting her dad for lunch. He tells her a time and if he shows up within 45 min he feels he is on time. He can be such a jerk at times. I sometimes have to make her see her father. It stems from him ignoring her while she was growing up. Now that we are divorced, he thinks she should jump everytime he wants to see her. He lives 2.5 hrs away and feels she should drive back there to see him. I think the road goes both ways.
Have to :moped: . Have a 7:30 meeting with my favorite counselor. Talking to her always puts me in a better frame of mind.

Goals for today:
Water - 60 oz (actually drank about 80 oz)
Food - as healthy as possible (depending on where DD2 wants to eat for her 19th birthday dinner)
Exercise - walk 3 miles or ride bike 12 miles (didn't do anything)
Soda - no more than 20 oz. (only 16 oz)
Food :
Breakfast - APEX oatmeal raisin meal bar, banana
AM snack - SB 100 cal wheat thins
Lunch - chix ceasar salad w/light dressing and no croutons
PM snack - Nabisco 100 cal oreo crisps
Supper - Thai noodles with chix & veggies, rice custard dessert
Had a massage this afternoon. She went deep on the tissues and my back is now hurting. It should feel better by tomorrow.
Still need to get motivated at work. Have alot of things to accomplish before heading back to Long Island next Tuesday. I have good intentions to get lots done but other things seem to get in the way. I will probably work Sat am. It will be quiet and there will be no interruptions. I can get more accomplished in 4 hours on a Sat morning than I can in 8 hours during the week.
DD1 will be home from Texas Saturday night. She has been gone since June 13. She will be at Disney from July 26-30. I will be heading back to Long Island on the 31st and she will be heading back to Maine on August 1. I will get to spend about 2 days with her before she has to go back to school.

DD1 is coming home today :cool1: :cool1: (a day early). She has been in Texas since June 13 for OBC. It will be good to see her again.
Will be heading back to mom's tomorrow. Need to go up to my sisters. My BIL would like to see the girls before the head back to college. He as an aortic anurism (sp) which is growing so it appears his time is limited. He has had it for quite a few years but the doctor's said it would kill him if they tried to operate. He is a double amputee and has had numerous heart surgeries. He has been a walking time bomb for too long. Not looking forward to the trip.
Depression and anxeity are rearing thier ugly heads. Need to stay focused and keep them from hitting full blast. I decided last night not to take one of my medications. I appears to have been a stupid move. Didn't sleep much.
Need to get a lot of work done today. Have to have it done before going back to Long Island Tuesday AM (after dropping DD's at airport for their trip to WDW). They are going to spend some sister time together for DD2's belated birthday trip.
Should consider getting ready for work. Can get more accomplished before secretary comes in at 8:30 than the rest of the day (it seems). The more I can get done today, the less I will have to work tomorrow (and maybe not at all). :scratchin :scratchin

Not much accomplished at work. Hopefully 4 hrs tomorrow will be enough. I didn't work an 8 hour shift one day this week. i need an attitude adjustment when I am here.
Today was a stellar eating day also. :crazy2: :crazy2:
Breakfast - oatmeal w/tablespoon of maple syrup (not bad)
Snack - Nabisco 100 cal honey grahams pack (not bad)
Lunch - diet pepsi, bag of potato chips (300 cals) :sad1:
Snack - 2Hersheys take 5 candy bar (220 cals)
Supper - 3 pieces of Erin's left over pizza, diet soda
Calorie wise not bad, nutrition wise NOT THE BEST!!! :rolleyes1
Picked my bike up tonight after getting longer seatpost and having shifters and brakes adjusted. Rode aroung block a couple of times for about 3 miles. Not much for exercise, but also helped daughter take her lofted bed apart and put up the lower bed. That caused the water to drip because of the humidity level.
Need to be at airport by 11-45 to pick up DD1. She won't get any releive from the heat and humidity. It probable was hotter in Texas, but more humid here.

Today is day one of a new committment to daily exercise. It is the also my first post surgery day where I feel somewhat human. Pain meds are reduced and will hopefully stay that way.
Heat and humidity have made life miserable. Tomorrow, the thick bandage comes off so I can see how many stitches are across the top of my shoulder. Surgery could not be done with scope.
Goals for today -
1. Get Erin enrolled in community college.
2. 60 0z of water
3. 20 min walk
4. Eat healthy.

Since I haven't been eating as healthy as I should, I decided to try journaling again. Yesterday I ate about 2/3 of a bag of tootsie roll midgees, 3 peanut butter pumpkins and a batty peppermint patty. If I keep eating like that I will undo everything I have worked hard to lose.
Today was much better eating. I put the remainder of the tootsie rolls in a glass candy jar and placed them on the file cabinet in the farthest corner from my desk. Knowing i was going to fess up to what I ate today, I only had 3.
Food consumed today:
Breakfast - dannon yogurt w/granola
Snack - healthy heart oatmeal raisin bar
Lunch - Chicken Ceasar salad with minimal dressing, diet caffeine free pepsi
Snack - peanut butter pumpkin, 3 tootsie roll midgees
Supper - garlic pasta w/ vegetables, diet caffeine free pepsi
Water consumed today was about 48 oz.
The only thing I have been consistent with is not eating after 8 pm. I am exercising as my back and hip allows following the Marathon for Mortals walk the half marathon program. I agravated my back by changing my gait because of blisters on my little toes while at WDW over Columbus Day weekend. The short vacation was weel worth the pain. I didn't do the cross training last night for 2 reasons, didn't get home until almost 7 and lower back was hurting.
Tomorrow is a 30 min walk at a moderate pace. I can usually walk without much pain. My chiropracter said my back and hip would straighten out faster if I didn't spend so much time sitting. To accomplish that, I would have to hang my desk from the ceiling. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Today started out to be a good food day until I stopped at the convenience store to buy a Take 5 candy bar on the way back to work from a clients. The clerk told me they had all their bags of Halloween candy on sale for $.99 so of course I had to pick up 2 bags. Who could pass up a sale like that? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I went back to the office and proceeded to eat almost a whole bag even though I was not the least bit hungry. I have to learn not to buy the junk because I have no willpower for some candy.
The one thing I did better today was drink 56 oz of water.
This week has been extremely busy. I had already worked 40 hours before even starting today. Because I am so far behind at work, I have not taken a day off since returning from WDW on Oct 11. I figure if I can keep up this schedule, I will be able to see the top of my desk around Thanksgiving. I will be more than ready for our next WDW trip from Dec 17 - 24.
I am sticking to the Marathoning for Mortals for walking the half at WDW on Jan 7. I have to get much better about doing the cross-training days. I skipped last nights cross training for a massage which I thought was more beneficial.
Eating suppers this week has been interesting. Since I am not hungry, I have been having soda and popcorn. Tonight I am having left over roast beef slices with biscuits. I need to get back to not eating after 8 pm. That is hard when I don't get home until 6:45 on the 3 nights I have PT. I figure it is better to exercise before eating that right after. Monday I spent 55 min on the treadmill which was the 40 min workout plus 5 min of warm up and cool down.

I know what you mean about the Halloween Candy. It is a killer every year. This year, I vowed to not buy any until right before and I bought what the kids like and I hate (in case there is leftovers!) - so we got sour patch kids only! :teeth:
But, I know when they come back from trick-or-treating they will have all my favorites. argh! But, I figure they will only be interested in trick-or-treating so many more years, right? God, I hope they don't trick-or-treat all through HS! :rotfl: As it is DS uses DD as an excuse to still go! :rotfl:
So sorry to hear about your back and hip bothering you. Since the cold, damp weather has arrived, my knee has been bothering me again. I ask myself, why do I live in Maine? Fl or Az would be so much better for my arthritis... But, I love where I live. I just hate that it is winter 1/2 of the year! Well, it feel like it. ;)
I know your work schedule is crazy and I'm sure that makes your meal schedule crazy. Here's a question. What if you actually scheduled meal breaks into your day and didn't procrastinate them? I have a friend who does this and it works for her. Just wondering...
AND, step away from the evil Halloween Candy! :rotfl: I know I'm trying to... ARGH! It's so hard! Candy is my downfall, along with sweet breads (pastries, donuts - you know all the yummy stuff!).
Take care of yourself. I'd love to have a massage.

How's your marathon training going? Is either of your girls going with you in January to WDW? Where are you staying? We've been down in Jan twice - once in 2003 and once in 2005. In '03 it was so cold! :cold: But this past Jan was BEAUTIFUL, sunny and warm on all but 1 day (just a bit chilly that day, so I can't complain). We went swimming the afternoon we got there and the water was like bathwater, oh so warm. It was so nice to be warm all the way through my body again. Maine winters are so damp and cold, brutal on the worst days.
Well, I better get off the computer and let some of the other customers use it if they want.
Happy Friday! :sunny: :sunny:

I hope Erin can do the 1/2 with you. What's wrong with her knees? Believe me, I can understand that!
Lynne's the runner, right? Lucky her. I'd love to be able to run, but all things considered I don't complain. Other than the knee, I'm pretty healthy and I'll take it!
Well, hopefully your 2 days off will be a good thing. Enjoy your 6 mile walk.
Happy Sunday! :sunny: :sunny:

Went for a easy walk yesterday at Green Lakes State Park. Didn't figure we would have many more 75 degree days. :rotfl: :rotfl:
Erin has patelar tendonitis in both knees. She is going to try and walk the half (maybe). I let her set the pace for yesterday's walk.
Going to work at home today and see if I can get more accomplished. IF not I will force myself to go into the office.
Need to get to work. Will stop back in later.

Sounds like a nice walk and I know what you mean about taking advantage of the nice weather. I know we are only going to get so many of these nice days and I, too, am trying to take advantage of them!!!
Too bad about Erin's knees. Especially it being bi-lateral, can't be too comfortable for her.
Hope your work at home day went well. I worked from home for 12 1/2 yrs and I miss it alot! Well, not the work, just being home. I'm one fo those disciplined folks who can do it, but saw many, many, many who could not and got fired! (oops for them)
Well, I need to jet but wanted to say HI!

It seems that my life is finally slowing down. I have almost caught up at work. I can work fewer hours and even take the week off (I hope).
Food consumption for today was not bad. Snack choices coult have been better but I am working on that.
Breakfast - oatmeal w/2 tbls of maple syrup
AM snack - Healthy Heart honey almond bar
Lunch - leftover barbeque pork, rice pilaf
PM snack - 17 caramels :guilty: and a banana
Supper - home-made beef vegetable soup and 2 biscuits
Water - 84 oz so far
Soda - none yet
I am trying to limit my soda consumption. I read someplace that even diet soda can hinder your weight loss efforts. I will try and consistently drink more water and less soda.
I need to get back to not eating after 8 PM. It is sometimes hard when I don't get home from PT until 6:30 and the kid asks her standard question "What's for supper?" i have to get better with planning the meals on weekends. She doesn't eat steak or pork chops so I don't always get meat with my meals. We eat alot of pasta based dishes, but I would also like to throw in some meat and vegetables. If the meal is something she chooses, I can usually have her prepare it.
The last few days, I have been having a large bowl of ice cream. I'm not satisfied with a reasonable serving, I have to have a big bowl and smother it with nuts. There has to be some nutrition is the snack somewhere.
Tonights exercise will be 45 min on the exercise bike while watching another episode of seaon 1 of the pretender. I never watch these shows when they are an tv. Walmart screwed up and had the complete season 1 on dvd marked for $5. It was supposed to be $40, but since it was their mistake, they let me have it for the lower price. They changed the tag on the rest of them immediately. I couldn't pass up a deal like that. One episode lasts about 45 min. It just shows home much time is wasted by commercials.
Have to finish supper and go exercise.
I didn't follow through on no eating past 8 pm. DD2 made more biscuits and I had to have another hot one. Those perfect protion biscuits are addicting.

Just thought I would resurrect this journal to keep track of my meals and become accountable for what I am eating.
I am currently an empty nester again. DD2 is at WDW doing the college program. She had moved back home last May after a year in Virginia attending school. It is taking some getting used to again. I am actually able to eat more meat and less pasta.
As a start to get myself on track to eating healthier and hopefully to lose the weight I want to be rid of, I saw a nutritionist this past week. I knew I was not eating properly - neither enough calories or the right kind of foods. I am supposed to shoot for 2000 cal per day with the breakdown being 250 g of carbs, 150 g of protein and 44 g of fat. So far I have not met the the suggested breakdown but I feel I am eating somewhat healthier. I have to take the time and plan out menus. i usually get in the rut of eating the same things over and over while skipping the variety of healthy foods out there.
I have been doing weel exercising the last xcouple of weeks. I have almost met my 1000 min for the Jan exercise challenge. I trained for and completed the WDW Half Marathon. I am continuing to train and plan on doing more races this year. I am currently walking but am hoping to to eventually be able to run some.

Hi Kathy!
I saw your thread in my email! How in the heck are ya?? I am glad to see you are back. I have not been on the Wish board in a long time. I need to be though.
Keep it keeping on. What kind of exercising are you doing? How many minutes at a time etc. etc.
Good to know you are still around!

Today started off good but ended up lousy. I did manage to get my 45 min of biking in before going to a 6 pm appt. Supper was fixed and eaten about 8.
Breakfast - oatmeal w/maple syrup
AM snack - strawberry nouriche
Lunch - turkey on wheat w/mustard, cottage cheese, cauliflower, applesauce
Snack -APEX meal replacement bar after working out
Supper - 2 butter flavor biscuits, carmel corn, caffeine free diet pepsi
Fluids today 120 oz w/20 oz from soda. I will probably be up numerous times during the night.
Tomorrow I'm meeting with the trainer. She is going to help me set up a strength training routine with the limitation of very light upper extremity exercises. Hopefully she will come up with a workable program.
Tomorrow I will shoot for less water and healthier choices for dinner.

Another day, another struggle. How to get enough milk products in each day.

Need to get off to work so I can leave at 4 to go to the gym.

Hi, Kathy! So great to see you posting (and thank you so much for visiting my journal!)
I really like reading your meal choices. You have given me some good ideas. I also struggle with getting my milk in. I think the glenny's soy crisps that I like may meet the WW calcium requirement if I eat a bag of them. I will check on that and let you know so that you might find another food that would help you meet your milk requirement.
I am so psyched that we will be doing the Minnie together. Really is something to look forward to -- just 3 months to go! :Pinkbounc

Being at a clients all morning caused me to miss my morning snack. His computer system was so slow it took me 3 hours to do the month end close out instead of the normal 2 to 2.5 hrs. He is up from Florida until March 1 and kept asking me how much longer I would be. He needs to go back soon before he drives everyone crazy.
I went home to get my phone and because I was starving, I ate half a take 5 candy ar on my way back to work. I should have grabbed something else but it was handy.
Lunch - turkey on wheat english muffin w/mustard, baby carrots, and cottage cheese
I am working on fnishing 60 oz of water. Will probably have another 16-32 oz before going home. I finally got smart and took my glass to the clients so I could keep to my schedule of at least 32 oz in the morning at work.
Probably should try to get some work done.

My food choices feel apart. I decided to go to the 6 pm group training class at the gym. It was run by the same person who I have my individual training sessions with. :yay: :yay: The class does a lot of core ball work and upper body strengthening. I was allowed to use 3 and 4 lb weights due to the dr restrictions.
Food since work - piece of montery jack jalepeno cheese, 2 biscuits, cottage cheese and yogurt. I also had a diet cherry pepsi after drinking 96 oz of water. I should not have had the biscuits but I couldn't think of anything else that sounded remotely interesting. I threw in the yogurt and cottage cheese to give it some sembelance of healthy.
We will see tomorrow what muscles weren't used in training for the half.

Eating today was so-so. I stopped at the store on the way to work to pick up some brownies to take in. The Wegs I went to wasn't laid out like my regular one so I didn't find the brownies and was forced to get 2 yogurts instead.
Breakfast - yogurt and Quaker breakfast square.
AM snack - banana
Lunch - chix chow mei fun
PM snack - 3 Hershey kisses, 3 mini York patties, 1/2 Take 5
Supper - chix chow mei fun (leftover from lunch), 2 biscuits.
Totals for today -
Calories 1657/2000
Carbs 257/250 gr
Fat 45/44 gr
Protein 61/150 gr
I really need to figure out how to get more protein in my diet. I hope to have time this weekend to plan a menu for next week and actually go get the groceries needed. Maybe that way I can stay within the guidelines set up by the nutritionist.
Exercise - none (am sore from last nights group training class). I emailed the instructor to let her know her goal was accomplished. I need to do the class more often. I used to do it twice per week until I started having so much trouble with the shoulder. I haven't been to the class in over a year.
Water - 96 oz.
Closed kitchen - 8 pm.

Stopped to pick up brownies to take into work. Looked at the nutrition info and decided to get molasses cookies instead. I couled eat 4 cookies for teh same calories as 2 brownies. i ended up eating 6 and left the rest at the office for the boss.
Breakfast - cottage cheese, 2 cookies
AM snack - 4 cookies
Lunch - cottage cheese, cheese, 2 biscuits.
Need to find something for supper which is high in protein and very low in fat. I maxed out my fat grams for today with the 2 biscuits.
Need to get some exercise in today also. Skipped yesterday because of screaming quads thanks to my trainier but it is a good sore. :rotfl2:
Am going to put next weeks menu together to get off the high fat foods and get closer to a balanced meal plan.

I found that by not journaling I gain weight. I have gained back 2 pounds by not drinking enough water and not eating the right foods. My exercise has remained consistent between the TM and the bike. Need to put some core in to complete the mix.
Breakfast - 2 toaster waffles and 3/4 cup lowfat yogurt.
Snack - cheese stick
Lunch - Biscuit, cottage cheese, carrots and low-fat ranch for dipping.
Water - working on 25 oz. started earlier.
Exercise - none so far, will get some cleaning snow off car.
