I've found someone who wants a lift down to Orlando and has a plane ticket back...she's willing to pay for gas. Does anyone have any idea what I should ask for or just how much it costs in gas to get down there?
Thanks everybody!

When we went in the fall we figured it cost around $250 CDN for the entire trip. We have a van cost $52 CDN to fill at home before we left, in Florida it was $28 US (the only time we allowed it to get bone dry). Now keep in mind whenever we stopped for a BR break or to eat we filled up, even if it was 1/4 of a tank. We figured we were stopping anyway so why not top it up. I costs just as much to fill the top half of the tank as it does the bottom, hehehe.... Anyways hope this helps. Take care and have a great trip :earboy2:

Our return trip to Florida, including driving while we're down there is usually around $200 US -- however we haven't driven since 2003 and the gas prices are a lot higher now. Does this person want to pay for your gas one way, or just her "share" (ie. there's already 3 of you going ... she makes 4 -- so she only wants to pay $25 of the actual cost of $100). You gotta figure that it is inconvenient to take along someone else, luggage takes up some of your room, another person to wait for when you stop for bathroom breaks, etc. I say if she offers to pay for gas every time you fill up, take her up on it. Remember, you're doing this person a favour ... not the other way around. And just because "you're going anyway" doesn't mean that you should only charge her something minimal like $25.
That's a tough one !

In February with a 1993 Astro Van it cost us $169 US + $67 CND round trip. It cost $67 CND to fill up before crossing the border at Sarnia and cost approx. $30 US to fill.

Hiya,
Thanks for all the replies...we're asking the girl for $100 Canadian. Does that sound fair?? It costs $193 +tax to go one way with Greyhound...
Thanks. :)

Yes I think that is totally fair. It's a pretty cheap trip if you ask me, besides it's wear and tear on your vechicle, $100 in what I'd likely charge. Have fun I'm so envious. My hubbie said yesterday he wanted to go to FLA now I told him he's gotta wait til our income tax comes back ( to book for Oct) It probably has something to do with all the stinking snow that is outside. Have a safe trip TTFN Kat :Pinkbounc  :earsgirl:
