How's that for a positive journal title? :teeth:
I decided it's time to start a new journal, since I'm recommitting to getting fit and healthy and dropping some of this extra weight.
The weight and measure session this morning was not fun, but it was a wake-up call. Here it is:
Weight: 155 - an all time high :(
Bust: 41.5
Chest: 36
Waist: 37.5
Tummy: 43
Hips: 42
Thighs: 40 L=25.5 R=25
OK, there it is in print. Now it's time to take some action.
The daily plan includes:
1. Devotions and Bible reading - I'll need God's help on this journey.
2. Pills - meds & multivitamin every day.
3. Water - at least 60 oz.
4. Healthy eating - NOT the kind of eating I've been doing lately. Generally LC with some extra fruit thrown in.
5. Exercise - at least SOMETHING every day, even if it's just stretching. I'm aiming for 6 days of exercise and a 7th day of stretching only. 4 days will include cardio (generally my training walk/run for the half marathon) and 3 days will include weight training (using the circuit at the health club). I'll be scheduling time with a personal trainer so I'll tweak this at her discretion.
6. Reasonable bedtime - no more staying up late and trying to "create" more hours in my days. I need my sleep - at least 7 hours per night.
Weigh-in and measurements will officially be on Monday morning, with weight checks throughout the week just to make sure.
This looks practically identical to what I've been trying to do, but today I start again with new resolve.
I want to celebrate my success in 7 weeks at the Ocean City Maryland half marathon. I want to cross that finish line feeling leaner and healthier.
Here we go! :sunny:

OK, I've done it! I made my first appointment with a personal trainer! I am a bundle of nerves about it but I really think it will help me keep my exercise focus. Our first meeting is this Sunday at 1 PM. :goodvibes
We're expecting quite a bit of snow today and tonight - about 6" - 8". My carpool driver wants to leave early today before the snow gets too bad. Works for me! ::yes::
Daily goals:
1. Devotions & Bible study - not yet.
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - on my 3rd of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B = 2 slices turkey, 2 slices mozzarella, 10 baby carrots, snack will be 1 oz. cashews, L will be an apple w/ PB. I'll spend my afternoon planning my menus for tonight and the rest of the week.
5. Exercise - My training schedule calls for 48 minutes walk3/run1. I know that is too much running for me. I also did not get my 7 mile training walk in this past weekend. My goal for today is to walk 4 miles with a minute of running every half mile. That means walk 8 minutes/run 1 minute roughly. Sounds like a good plan! My workout bag is packed and in the car. As long as it isn't snowing too bad I'll stop on the way home from work.
6. Bedtime tonight will be at 10 PM and wake up tomorrow will be at 5:30 AM - 7.5 hours of restful sleep!

Morning Doe! What a wonderful new journal you have going here. I loved your post in my journal this morning about the hang nail. I plan on being extremely tough on myself - so don't expect any slack from me! ;)
Just to remind you per my Curves instructors 19% of weight loss is attributed to stretching. So be sure to do lots of stretching when you strength train.
Have a good first day my friend!

Hey, how are you doing this afternoon? Now, I don't want to put words in your journal, here, but I'm kind of wondering if you're feeling any afternoon fatigue. Remember that whatever exercise you got done at the gym is a GOOD thing.
Be careful with your eating tonight, Doreen. You want to eat really healthy things that are going to nurture YOU and your body. Do you have any nice fruit that you can enjoy for dessert or in the evening?
Hugs to you. We can do this.

Last post for Monday Feb. 28
1. Devotions - talked about using handy kitchen appliances like crock-pots to simplify cooking. Doesn't sound like a devotional but the author tied in scripture. :p
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - 60 oz. + some! :p
4. Healthy eating - followed my plan for the day. Made chili for dinner and added lots of ground beef to mine - delish! :p
5. Exercise - did 3 miles in 48 minutes on the health club's treadmill. Checked to make sure my weight record card is still on file at the health club's circuit, so I can do that as tomorrow's cross-training workout. :p
6. Bedtime - I'm on track for 10 PM. :p
It was a great first day! I didn't have any cravings. YAY!!
I made some yummy food for tomorrow's lunch - can't wait! :sunny:

Day 1 (yesterday) I earned all 6 of my smilies! :Pinkbounc
Day 2 is today and I'm aiming for the same success. ::yes::
Today:
1. Devotions - Who am I trying to impress? Even if I'm doing God's work, I should NOT be doing it and seeking or wanting affirmation from PEOPLE. I should be seeking only God's approval. :p
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - on my first of 5 mugs to get to 60 oz.
4. Healthy eating - B = chicken waldorf salad, snack = 10 baby carrots, L = the 2nd serving of chicken waldorf salad (LOVE this stuff!), D = chili leftovers
5. Exercise - 40 minutes of crosstraining is on the schedule. I'll hit the health club after work for a 10 minute warmup on the recumbent bike and once around the weight circuit (takes 30-45 minutes).
6. Sleep - Bedtime will be at 10 PM so I can get 7.5 hours of sleep. :cloud9:

I did do my stretching last night and I was in bed on time. 2 days of 6 smilies!! Hey, let's make it 3!!
Today:
1. Devotions - Having a mission statement for my life would help me simplify and spend the time I have more wisely. :p
2. Pills - just paused to take them. :p
3. Water - on my second of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B = chicken waldorf salad, L = the last of the chicken waldorf salad, snacks = 2 string cheese and 10 baby carrots, D = ham steaks and some type of veggie.
5. Exercise - My schedule calls for a rest day. YAY! :p
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
I've already earned 3 of my 6 smilies! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc All I have to do now is drink like a :fish:, eat according to my plan, and get to bed at 10 PM. I can do this, in spite of it being Day 1 of TOM and feeling perfectly awful.
Can I take a moment to whine? My headache is pounding, my body is achey, my "girls" are painfully swollen, and my low back hurts. However, as strong women, we are not to let any of this show in any way to the world.
OK, that's enough of a pity party for me - now on to the day with a smile! ::yes:: :sunny:

Enjoy your rest day today, and your menu sounds yummy! I'm going to buy the ingredients to make the Chicken Waldorf salad this weekend to keep it on hand. Although I'm not sure I can eat it for breakfast ;) Lunch though is a definate!
I know you are feeling the effects of TOM - is there anyone at work that can give you some Midol? That always helps me with the aches and bloating. Otherwise - I think a foot rub and neck massage is in order from the gadgets you bought at the marathon convention.

You know, you'd think that women of the world could unite and come up with a way to make everyone cut us some slack during TOM instead of acting like it doesn't exist. Maybe we should wear little pins that say "Please be gentle with me, TOM is approaching." That'd be enough wouldn't it? :confused3 You know I feel your pain, Doreen. At least we know "this too shall pass."

Day 3 was another rousing success - all 6 smilies were MINE!! :cloud9: Maybe 3 days on the straight and narrow doesn't seem like a big deal to many but I've strayed for so long that it seemed unthinkable last week. I've got all my WISH friends to thank for keeping me on the right track. :grouphug:
I'm afraid today may be more of a challenge. I'm feeling all better except for the headache. It has gotten worse. I just took 2 Excedrin Migraines and am hoping for some relief soon. I am confident about all my goals except the exercise. If this headache doesn't get better, there's no way I can do 48 minutes on the treadmill. So I'm crossing my fingers that the meds work and I can get my workout in this afternoon. I really want all my smilies. ::yes::
Today:
1. Devotions - No matter what I feel my faults and limitations are, God can use me to minister to others. In the Bible, He found ways to enlist drunks, prostitutes, chronic worriers, womanizers, murderers, etc. He doesn't call me because I'm perfect, He calls me because I'm His chosen child. :p
2. Pills - will take them later this morning.
3. Water - on my second of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - AM snack = a banana & 2 Excedrin Migraines :), B = apple w/ PB and my pills, L = LC tortilla w/ ham & mozzarella, PM snack = 10 baby carrots & 2 string cheese, D = the last of the chili
5. Exercise - The schedule says 48 minutes of walking/running. Please pray that my headache is gone enough that I can earn this smilie.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
The scale has moved to 154 2 days in a row, although I won't officially claim it until Monday morning weigh-in. I know the scale isn't supposed to matter but the number sure does put a smile on my face.
It will be another busy workday but I'm feeling confident about my tasks. I feel absolutely horrible about not getting around to all the journals :( , but know that you are all in my prayers and in my thoughts on a daily basis. This weekend I'll set aside a few hours to get caught up with everyone. :grouphug:
EDIT: 12 noon
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - on my 3rd mug
4. Sticking to my healthy eating plan
My headache is better - definitely tolerable now! :cloud9: Still not sure about the workout but I'll take cues from my body while still doing SOME type of exercise.

Day 4 was a success - I earned all my smilies for 4 DAYS IN A ROW!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
I took Excedrin Migraine in the morning that brought the headache to a tolerable level. Beth, I was surprised to see it has caffeine in it. The work day was very productive and flew by. I went straight to the health club to find all the treadmills in use, so instead I did 10 minutes on the recumbent bike to warm up (while reading Runner's World magazine :p ), did the weight circuit (haven't done that since August  ) and 10 minutes on the EFX (think stairclimber meets eliptical trainer). I headed home, helped DD put together a costume from the 20's for history class, threw fish filets and cheese sticks into the oven for dinner and then crashed. OK, dinner wasn't the best as far as low-carb, but I watched my portions and the carb count wasn't outrageous so I'm counting it as healthy.
Today: (edit 10 AM)
1. Devotions - right after I post this.
2. Pills - not yet.
3. Water - on my second of 5 mugs
4. Healthy eating - AM snack = banana, 1 oz cashews & more Excedrin Migraine, B = apple w/ PB & pills, L = Subway lc wrap, PM snack = orange, D = something with the chicken breasts thawing in the fridge and sf jello w/ whipped cream for a treat
5. Exercise - I really did today's workout last night. I'm going to the health club after work. I may do tomorrow's 4 miles tonight. At minimum, I'll do 3 miles on the treadie, if there's one open.
6. Bedtime - flexible since I don't have to get up early tomorrow. I'll strive for no later than 11 PM though.
It will be another busy but manageable day at work. I have my "to do" list laid out and prioritized so I'll be working the list, step by step. Tonight, I'm going to work out, make dinner, and then do absolutely nothing! I'm exhausted from this week and I'm taking the night off. Who knows, maybe DH will consent to take-out instead of me cooking! :p I'd be willing to ride along to pick up food. :teeth:
It's Friday! Let's party!! :rockband:
The girls need a break-tonight we're gonna take
The chance to get out on the town
We don't need romance-we only wanna dance
We're gonna let our hair hang down
The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun and...
Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel

Let me ask you a rather personal question, if you don't mind. From where you sit in the DZone, do you think that eating better and exercising have helped your symptoms? While I have some achiness, I think that the exercise is helping a lot with that "dishrag fatigue" I so often get. Just wondering if you're having the same happy result.

Well, yesterday was the first day I didn't earn all my smilies. I did get smilies for taking my pills and getting to bed on time. :p I could claim a smilie for food, since all I had for dinner was a piece of toast. I didn't exercise or eat well because I was feeling very sick to my tummy late in the day.
Today I'm still feeling a little queasy. I'm already doing laundry. We have a brunch at the home of some friends. I also have to do a little shopping. I'm going to try to take it easy.
I haven't planned my day yet. But I'll get around to it.

3. Water
4. Healthy living
5. Exercise

Good morning, Doreen! :sunny: Here's some :wizard: for that pooky belly you've got going. It sounds like you've got lots to do today. . .PLEASE try to take some time for yourself to regroup after a busy and demanding week.
Now we both know that we're not going to be perfect on this journey--we're only trying to do the best we can--but it's easy on the weekend to lose focus. I think that coming to your journal first thing this morning and looking at your plan for the day was a great step toward staying the course! :Pinkbounc Good for you!
Have a good Saturday, Doreen, and make healthy choices that nurture YOU!

Girl - it's okay! Look at what you accomplished this week! Not to mention you have been feeling under the weather a couple days in a row. If I thought you were really slacking I would be giving you some tough love - but I know you are doing the best you can!
Now, having said that - you need to stick to doing what you can do. I know you are feeling bad, but continuing to eat right is going to help you feel better faster then putting a bunch of junk in your body. Take a nap today, take care of you, and then come back full force tomorrow. Drink your water, take your pills, vitamins, and pray. :)

I skipped my journal most of Saturday and all of Sunday. That usually means I'm being naughty and avoiding writing it down. There was no exercise, very little healthy eating, not nearly enough water.
I've been feeling really tired and drained all weekend, even before I started eating more carbs than I should. I expected to be feeling more upbeat and energized by now. This healthy living sure does take a lot of time and energy and determination.
I didn't meet with the personal trainer. She felt our schedules didn't match up well and recommended another trainer who could work with my schedule. I haven't called him yet to set up an appointment. He looks more like the bodybuilder type. I just don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about him from his picture on the website. :confused3 Not sure if I'll follow through and call or if I'll just try to do this on my own.
Today's a new day - time to move forward. ::yes::
I weighed in at 152 - have lost 3 pounds in one week. The measurements have gone down too, but I'm at work & left them at home, so I'll post them later. I was pleased! :cloud9:
Today: (edit 2 PM)
1. Devotions - Knowing that Christ is ... there to catch me when I fall encourages me to move out in confidence and openly show his love and compassion to everyone I meet.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - started the third of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - B = apple w/ PB, snack = 1 oz cashews, just wasn't feeling well at lunch so I didn't eat. Then I realized I was queasy because of work stress and gave into the urge for a Hershey bar w/ almonds, PM snack is yogurt w/ almonds to try to break my urge to binge, D will be chicken parmesan and maybe a little Dreamfields lc pasta.
5. Exercise - 4 miles outside after work. It's supposed to be almost 60 degrees here!
6. Bedtime at 10 PM.

Not sure what I'd think about Mr. Muscles either...I prefer to work with someone who looks more "human", I guess...I'd probably give him a try just to get the ball rolling & then scour the earth for someone more compatible...

Your commitment to healthy living has paid off!
I'm not sure about the trainer. . .I don't think I would feel comfortable either. If you know how to use all the equipment, maybe you don't really need him? On the other hand, maybe he can give you a few ideas, and if you don't like him, you don't have to stay with him.
Have a good day, dear friend.

I hope you are feeling better. You have been on a roll. I am so proud of you. As for the trainer, I think it is important to find someone you are dmfortable with. The day is practically over - can't believe I didn't post a journal entry this morning! I was out of my usual routine and when that happens, things slip. Today it was my journal entry.
The family had dental appointments in the morning. I didn't bother going to work - not enough time left in the day to justify the commute. Tonight DH & I had a meeting to attend.
Today:
1. Devotions - Beauty comes from within. When you first met your husband, do you remember how the whole world looked brighter? That was the influence of the love inside of you. Loving God can help us see the world with more love, which makes us more attractive from the inside out.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - a lot but not enough for a smilie.
4. Healthy eating - honestly, no.
5. Exercise - honestly, no.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM. Tonight it will be around 10:15 - as soon as I post this.
I earned 2 smilies. I need to do better tomorrow. I am feeling more rested - had a wonderful long nap this afternoon. :cloud9:

Time to reflect on the past few days and admit things are not going the way I want them to go. Looking at it objectively, I can see that my depression symptoms were very apparent - the fatigue, not caring about food or exercise or routine chores, feeling overly anxious, spending way too much time in escape activities, etc. Why is it so hard to see these things when they first start?
So WHY is my depression rearing its ugly head? Work stress is at the top of the list (again  ). There is one project in particular that I've been avoiding because I don't feel up to it. The truth is that getting through it is the only way for me to feel better. For those of you who have been with me for a while, this is nothing new, but it seems like a lesson I need to learn over and over. I can be so hardheaded at times.
Today I will focus my energies on getting this project done so I can move on to lots of other things on my desk. I'm going to pray for strength and then hold my head up high, give myself a good pep talk, and jump in to get it finished! :cheer2:
Today:
1. Devotional - Menu planning can lead to a simpler, less stressful life. I think we WISH-gals have figured this one out already! ::yes::
2. Pills - out and ready to take with breakfast.
3. Water - on my first of 4 mugs (64 oz total).
4. Healthy eating - YES!! B will be apple w/ PB, AM snack will be 1 oz cashews, L will be a healthy wrap from the cafeteria during a lunch meeting, D will be either chicken parmesan or crab cakes.
5. Exercise - A stop by the health club after work for a trip around the weight circuit and a mile on the treadie.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.

Wilderness, you certainly are not a dope. Last evening, when I wrote my journal I WAS feeling peaceful. I think I just needed some time off work and a long nap to gain some perspective.
Time for plan B - I just found out I need to attend 3 different meetings today - 12 to 1, 1 to 1:30 and 1:30 to 3, and all on different projects. Guess I'll be spending the morning doing meeting prep. The big project will have to wait until that is finished. I'm taking deep breaths and praying, a LOT! :p I can feel this anxiety and still function. It's OK to feel the fear without letting it take over. I know that I'll feel better when these meetings are over, regardless of how they turn out.
So far:
1. Devotions - done :p
2. Pills - taken :p
3. Water - on mug 2 of 4. Gotta drink now because I won't be able to visit the li'l girls' room during my meeting marathon.
4. Healthy eating - B = apple w/ PB. I'm on track and will NOT let the anxiety take this smilie from me.
5. Exercise - I will NEED to make this a priority to help get rid of my anxiety and stress.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM. I'll be feeling better by then.

Yet another update to my stats:
1. :p
2. :p
3. Water - on my 3rd mug of 4.
4. Healthy eating - B was my apple w/ PB, L was yogurt w/ almonds, snack (right now) is 1 oz. cashews. D will be low carb and I WILL earn this smilie!
5. Exercise - right after work I'm heading to the gym. It's going to feel so good to work off this stress. Plus the endorphins I'll generate will help with my depression. Working out tonight is not optional - I NEED to do this. I know I'll be tempted to just head home but I WILL earn this smilie too!
6. Bedtime - 10 PM, if I can make it that long. :teeth:
I'm determined to have a 6 smilie day! :sunny: I'm doing all I can do to help get rid of these anxious feelings and confront my issues head on. In a prior life, I would have gone home and eaten an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. Not this time!! I'm determined to have a 6 smilie day! :sunny: I'm doing all I can do to help get rid of these anxious feelings and confront my issues head on. In a prior life, I would have gone home and eaten an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. Not this time!! I don't know about tomorrow, but for the next 6.6 hours (until bedtime) I'm going to do the things that lead to healthy living!!
Who was this girl and where did she go? After work, my son asked me to come home instead of work out. He was having car trouble and needed me to help him retrieve his car from the school's lot. Then he ran some errands and I wanted to be home, in case his car wouldn't start again and I had to go get him. By the time he got home, I had crashed and didn't do anything else.
Moral of the story - DON'T GO HOME!!!! Go STRAIGHT to the health club no matter what and tell DS, DD and DH and anyone else trying to sidetrack me that they'll just have to wait.
Of course this evening I have an appointment with DS so I CAN'T go straight to the health club.
It doesn't matter. My job is to do the best I can.
1. Devotions - Time with God restores our energy. We need to find or create quiet moments during our busy days to bask in His love and feel Him restore our energy. A firefighter takes the time to put on his protective gear before going into a burning building - you don't catch him running in yelling "I don't have time to put on my gear!". We have to take that time to restore our energy in the Lord or we won't have it to give to the many other people in our lives.
2. Pills - will take with breakfast.
3. Water - on my first of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - I'm feeling queasy again, so I'm not sure. I may opt for a small amount of oatmeal this morning.
5. Exercise - if I have any energy left when I get home.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.

03-11-2005, 08:15 AM
Yesterday I earned smilies for devotions, pills and bedtime. There was no exercise, not quite enough water and dinner was definitely carby. I'm trying to be OK with my efforts this week. The fact is that I've been using all my energy to get through the days and battle my depression, with no energy left to focus on healthy living.
The key for these crazy stressful weeks is to use the energy I have on the weekends to make my next week as easy as possible. Have all the laundry done and 5 work outfits ready to go. Cook ahead and have healthy food to take to work. These are the things that help me stay on track but don't require extra energy during the week.
Today my focus is on survival. I have to get through this last stressful workday of the week. I'll do the best I can. I'll be exhausted when I get home so I'm not going to set an exercise goal or cook an elaborate dinner. I need to be realistic.
So, the plan:
1. Devotions - God encourages us often in the Bible to not only help others, but to ask for help ourselves. My independent streak often tells me I can do it all if only I work harder, when God may be telling me to reach out and ask for help. I know how good I feel when I help someone else. There is someone out there who would feel that joy if I let them help me.
2. Pills - will take with breakfast.
3. Water - on my first of 5 mugs.
4. Healthy eating - ummm, I'll do the best I can.
5. Exercise - no, I'm giving myself the day off.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.

Let's just forget about the "healthy" part of living when thinking about this past weekend, shall we? I did the bare minimum as far as healthy living, but I got lots of rest and am prepared for the week ahead. Mentally, I'm in a better place to start my week. :)
Because of my weekend lapses, I've decided that weights & measures will be done on Wednesday this week. I've also decided that with the work stress, my focus will be on work right now. I'll still do my best at healthy living, but I'll be satisfied with maintaining my weight where it is for the next few weeks.
For those who are curious, DS felt he did "average" on the SATs on Saturday. This was his first time taking them and he considered it a practice test. He intends to take it again "for real." :teeth: He definitely liked the math part better. He was totally exhausted when he walked out 3.5 hours later.
Today will be another busy one at work, but I'm ready for it. I had clean clothes to wear this morning. I have a bag of healthy yummy food packed. I drove in myself (my carpool driver is ill today) so I can set my own schedule if I need an extra few minutes to wrap things up at the end of the day.
I have an 8-10 minute walk from the parking garage to my office. As I was nearing my office this morning, I realized I had spent most of that walk thinking negative thoughts about myself, about all the things I've left undone. "This tote bag is heavy - can't believe I didn't get around to cleaning it out!" "I have to catch up on my checkbook - the whole weekend went by and I didn't do it."
This kind of negative self-berating talk is not helpful. The world won't fall apart if my checkbook isn't balanced and my tote bag is heavier than I'd like. The fact is that I'm a busy woman and I'm doing the best I can. Making a to-do list might be helpful to remind me about these minor tasks, but this negative self-talk has to stop. I'll be working to replace it with positive thoughts about all those things I HAVE accomplished. I need to comfort and reassure myself the same way I'd comfort and reassure a close friend who talked to me about feeling this way. I also can turn to God and ask Him to comfort and reassure me.
Today: (edit 1 PM)
1. Devotions - God is in control, despite my efforts to control the world around me. I can stop wasting my time and energy frantically trying to change people and circumstances on my own. :p
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - will be drinking like a :fish: Working on my 3rd mug of 5.
4. Healthy eating - snack = a banana & string cheese, B = yogurt w/ almonds, L = ham rollup on lc tortilla, snack will be a grapefruit and/or string cheese, D will be fish filets.
5. Exercise - probably not today.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
(Edit 1 PM) So far, so good. I'm a bit sleepy so I may have to resort to a cup of caffeinated tea to keep me awake. In all other respects I'm on track. I feel like a weight has been lifted, since I've decided to maintain my weight rather than spend all my energies focused on losing.

 to you, dear WISH-sis, on your brand new Monday. I'm grateful that we had yesterday to spend together. . .I always love seeing you and Todd. I know that God has blessed my life richly by our friendship.
Here's a thought about your day--how about as you're leaving work today or walking around at lunch, you think about all of the good things that you did do (as opposed to stuff that you didn't get around to do)? From saying a prayer for a friend and smiling at a co-worker, to accomplishing 5-10 minutes on a task that was challenging. . .think of all the you DID achieve for yourself and for others. Sometimes that can help shift our negative thinking.
I think it's GREAT :Pinkbounc that you have an eating plan for today! Good going! I'll be drinking my tea today and toasting my WISH-sis Doreen!
Have a good one!

Yesterday I earned smilies for devotions, pills, and bedtime - that's 3 of 6. Today I'm going for at least 4 of 6!
Thanks for all the encouragement concerning my negative thinking. :grouphug: I'm always such a positive person when it comes to other people and even with myself when I consciously think about most areas. It was a shock to realize that my unconscious brain ramblings were so negative toward myself. I'm paying closer attention to that inner voice now and redirecting it with more positive thoughts.
Jen (blueeyes), I always have lists. However I tend to keep lists on the computer and just delete stuff when I finish it. I like your idea of highlighting what I've finished so I can SEE what I've accomplished. I'll try that today - thanks!
Today:
1. Devotions - Conquering my procrastination can bring about a sense of orderliness and accomplishment. Boy, this is an area I'd like to improve on. ::yes::
2. Pills - on the desk and waiting for me to eat breakfast.
3. Water - 5 mugs today, no matter what!
4. Healthy eating - B will be yogurt w/ walnuts, L will be a burger, D will be chicken parmesan and a little lc pasta.
5. Exercise - 5 minutes of some kind - either walking or strength training. I know once I get started I'll do more than 5 minutes.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM. This is really helping me!
Lots to do at work, but I'll be breaking things down into small steps and highlighting what I accomplish. Bet I'll feel really good at the end of the day when I see that highlighted list and realize all I've done! I'm excited about this idea! :goodvibes

:hug:s, :hug:s, and more :hug:s for your day, WISH-sis. I LOVE the idea of the highlighted list! I'm going to do that today, too. Not only will I enjoy seeing what I've accomplished, I'll get to use markers! :p Guess that's the preschool teacher part of me that likes that idea!
Doreen, we're walking through today together, seeing the beauty in others--and ourselves--as we go. Please know that I cherish YOU and our friendship so very much. How blessed I am to have you in my life. :goodvibes
I went to the Francis Scott Key Motel website and the indoor pool complex is supposed to open a month after we get there!!! Does this mean we'll have to go back for another girls' walkin' weekend next year so we can try out the pool and hot tub???!!! :) I've got a spa pedicure kit that one of my student's gave me--I'll be sure to bring it for our "after walk" care package. Nail polish and facials will have to be part of the recovery, too! :p
Let's see, oh, yeah, I wanted to tell you about something funny that happened yesterday. One of my student's mom is recovering from breast cancer. She came in yesterday with a 3 Day Walk button on. . .she's going to walk the Avon walk in Phila. for 3 days in Sept. She'll walk 20 miles a day (she has from sun up to sun down each day) and finish the day before her birthday. I get chills just thinking about this--it's such a huge victory for her. Anyway, she and I are very friendly and when I say this button, I said, "oh, my gosh, I'd love to walk with you!" and Mike came out from where he was teaching and said, "no, no, NO! I am the voice of reason. Erin is NOT walking this walk." It was pretty funny and we all laughed, but I know that he's right. I may help her out with going on some of her training walks, but I'm not committing to something as big as the Avon walk. Yet. :p The whole thing made me think of our conversation in the mall.
OK, I'd better get to my weight thingy and lift some weights. Today's cross-training day. Have a good day, honey.

Hi Doe,
I hear you about hte negative self talk. it is something I struggle with all the time. I think it is something that all women deal with. Awareness of it seems to help me the most. I need to be conscious that I am doing it.
I am thinking about doing the 3 day in a couple of years. It isn't as crowded as marathons are. I will be doing it with a girlfriend. It is going to take me that long to raise the funds to do it.
Take care,

WOW! This month is just flying by! One month from now, I'll be walking in Ocean City MD with Erin and some other WISHers. I've got to find out if they're having snacks anywhere on the route. "To Mile 9!" really helped my group during the WDW half marathon. :p MeMe and Amanda can attest to that! Makes me smile just thinking about it! :teeth:
Yesterday, I gave in to the evil carbs and today I'm paying for it. I'm feeling bloated & yucky. I'll be pushing my water to flush all that yuckiness away. I did earn smilies for devotions, pills, water and bedtime, so I met my goal of 4 smilies for the day. I think I'll be brave and try for 5 today.
1. Devotions - Find joy in your work. This is a tough one for me but I'll be actively looking for those feelings of accomplishment and joy in the workplace today. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart." Colossians 3:23 :p
2. Pills - am pausing to take them now - done. :p
3. Water - yep I'll be drinking 5 mugs! Edit 3:30 - 2 mugs down.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ walnuts. I have a grapefruit and 2 string cheese for lunch / snacks. I'll get a burger at lunch if I'm feeling hungry. Dinner? I'll think about this one - nothing sounds good at the moment. Edit 3:30 - still on track today!
5. Exercise - It's a beautiful day so I'll force myself to walk one lap (1/2 mile) around my office building sometime today. Edit 3:30 - walked 1 lap at lunchtime. :p
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
The highlighting on my to-do list is WONDERFUL! I keep my work list in an Excel spreadsheet and I've color-coded it. Green means it's finished, orange is for the 3 top things, yellow means I've started it, red means it's on hold waiting for someone else's action. My to-do list looks so much more cheerful with all the color! Thanks for the idea, Jen (Blueeyes)!
I'm off into my workday with a happy heart. I can do this AND I can find joy in my accomplishments! :cloud9:

Doreen-- Your to-do list actually sounds like it would be fun to look at and to keep up! Great job on the smilies. And I LOVE your devotion for today -- reminds me of a prayer I learned in college "Lord, I offer you this day, all I think or do or say, for on earth all good is done through Jesus Christ, Your Son." Finding joy in my work is a challenge some days. Thank you for the inspiration.
Have fun in your last month of training leading up to the 1/2. When are you travelling to Ocean City? What is the date of the 1/2 there? I'd love to be there cheering the WISH walkers on. You know we will all be with you there in spirit.
Have a 5 smilie kind of day, sweetie!

:shamrock: Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! :shamrock:
I only have a moment so this will be short and sweet.
I earned smilies yesterday for devotions, pills, exercise and bedtime. I earned half a smilie for water and another half smilie for food. That gives me 5 smilies, right? :p I was just under on my water and I was OP for food all day until I had mozzarella cheese sticks for dinner (49 carbs total). I didn't do bad, but I don't feel I earned a full smilie in either of these areas.
Today will be a very busy workday - no time to hit journals. I'm sending good :goodvibes and a :grouphug: to all.
1. Devotions - Funny how today's devotion was about replacing negative self-talk with positive self-talk. :p
2. Pills - taken. :p
3. Water - almost finished my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ slivered almonds, L will be a grapefruit, snacks will be 2 string cheese and cashews, D is up in the air.
5. Exercise - I have a meeting in another building so I'm counting the walk there and back as my exercise today.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
Tonight I head straight from work to the eye doctor's office for my checkup. Then the whole family is going to see the high school's production of Seussical the Musical.

:rockband: LET'S PARTY!!
I am exhausted!! This week has gone on for what seems like forever and I am totally and completely drained of energy! I'm ready for a weekend party or at least a long weekend nap! :teeth: :faint: Fortunately we don't have a lot going on this weekend.
Yesterday I earned smilies for devotions, pills, water and exercise. Dinner last night was 2 pieces of cinnamon toast - I just haven't been very hungry lately and I was too tired to actually cook.
I made it to the eye doctor's - my eyes have gotten a bit worse but I can still keep my driver's license. These eye doc visits are always very stressful for me. When I got home, we decided to let DS go see the musical alone (he said it was really good). The rest of the family will go either tonight or tomorrow night while DS is working. I just vegged for the rest of the night.
I have one more day of work and way too much to get done. The highlighted to do list is really helping though. Who knew that something so simple as color could brighten up my day so much!
Today:
1. Devotions - Slow down and linger over mealtimes. Enjoy reconnecting with family and friends while eating slowly. Eating food on the run or gulping it down quickly encourages the hurry-scurry lifestyle, while slowing down and savoring food helps us find peace and simplicity in our lives.
2. Pills - will take them with breakfast.
3. Water - 5 mugs, I'm on mug 1
4. Healthy eating - frankly I've barely got any energy left and food is not a top priority today. B will be yogurt w/ almonds, L will be a grapefruit, snack will be cashews and/or string cheese. D seems like a lifetime away and I have no clue what I'll eat.
5. Exercise - Temps will hit 50 degrees today! :Pinkbounc I'll walk one lap around my building at lunch.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
My weight is holding at 152 and my measurements haven't really changed from last week. I took my weight ticker out of my signature and replaced it with my new favorite quote.

Be sure to eat some salad though ;)

It's time to get back on plan, at least as much as possible. My overindulgences are catching up to me in the form of extra inches around my middle! :p We had a wonderful time at Red Lobster but I didn't exactly behave as far as food is concerned. :teeth:
My kids have been talking about joining the health club. They each have different goals but they share a desire to exercise. I told them I'll pay for their memberships as long as they help me get to the health club more often. Yesterday I signed both of them up. We did 10 minutes on the treadmills to warm up and we did the weight circuit. DS is working tonight but DD and I are headed out to do some cardio this evening. I also signed DH up and am hoping he'll make time to work out as well.
I only work 3 days this week. Thursday and Friday I'll be shopping with a friend at King of Prussia. DD & her two best friends are going. My friend (DD's friend's mom) sprung for 2 adjoining rooms at the Crowne Plaza executive club level (like concierge level), courtesy of her DH's business travel reward points. This will be my first experience staying at the concierge level. I bet I'll feel like a princess: ! I'm looking forward to a fun time!
Back to reality and the work that's waiting for me.
1. Devotions - "Prayer is meant to be a part of our lives, like breathing, thinking, and talking. Isn't that great? God is portable." - Gloria Gaither
2. Pills - meds taken, vitamin later.
3. Water - no more excuses! I'll finish mug 1 by 8:30 (done :p ), mug 2 by 10:30 (done :p ), mug 3 by 12:30, mug 4 by 2:30 and mug 5 by 4:30. Drink up, me hearties, yo ho! pirate: Can ya tell we watched Pirates of the Caribbean this weekend? :teeth:
4. Healthy eating - snack = 1.5 oz cashews. B = bagel w/ butter (I'm feeling queasy), L will be a burger sans bun, D? I really need to get to the store! Worst case, we'll have frozen fish filets.
5. Exercise - 2.5 to 3 miles on the treaddie at the health club w/ DD after work.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.
I'm feeling tired and have a pinched nerve that's giving me neck and shoulder pain, but I'm going to take on the day anyway! :sunny: I may make a side trip to the chiropractor this evening if it isn't feeling better by this afternoon.

My spirit is sunny and bright but the pain in my neck and shoulder kept me up for the second night in a row. I took off work today and will be seeing the chiropractor as soon as possible. I'm sure I'll need to ice the area for the rest of the day after I get adjusted.

I did pretty well yesterday, all things considered. After my adjustment, I still had sore muscles to contend with and spent the evening with an ice pack. :p DS and I did go to the health club - 10 minutes on the "evil" stepper ( :wave2: I think of you every time, Sharon! :p ) and the weight circuit. I only did lower body, while DS tackled the whole thing.
Today I'm still quite sore but the worst is over. I'll be stretching and massaging my neck and shoulder muscles all day. At least I got a good night's sleep last night. :cloud9:
Yesterday I only earned a smilie for exercise. I was close on all the others but didn't quite make it. Today promises to be better! ::yes::
1. Devotions - Pursuing things breeds discontent, while pursuing the Lord brings peace. A very wise devotion considering I'm headed to a shopping mecca tomorrow.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - almost finished my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - B = pumpkin custard, L - maybe soup, snacks will be string cheese and / or an orange, D will be an lc tortilla w/ turkey, cheese, lettuce and 1000 island dressing.
5. Exercise - I'll be busy tonight - no time for exercise. I'm taking a rest day guilt-free.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM.

Good morning, WISH-sis! Thanks for bringing your usual :sunny: to my journal--I appreciate it!
Are you looking forward to your shopping trip tomorrow? It sounds like you'll have lots of fun. Do you have anything special that you're going to be buying just for YOU?
I'm glad to hear that your neck pain is better and that you're on the mend. Congrats, too, on that smilie for exercise! It would seem to me that that would have been the most challenging to get since you had that soreness to deal with--even if it was in your upper body.
Are you home today or at work? Whereever you are, know that I'm thinking about you and yours. :goodvibes

Erin, I'm back at work - trying to catch up with yesterday's stuff AND cover the stuff for tomorrow and Friday when I'll be off.
The only definite purchase "just for me" is new "unmentionables". My undies have seen better days and it's time to replace them. :teeth: I also may look for some solid color skirts and a bright basic shirt or two for work - we're expected to dress up more now. I need to pick things that will mix and match well. Then there's the Easter basket stuff for the kids - haven't even STARTED that yet. Yeah, I'll have plenty to shop for. :p

I had a lovely Easter weekend. I enjoyed way too many carbs though and am feeling the "bloat" so today I'll be back to business. The scale says I'm back up to 155 pounds, right where I started, but I know it's all water weight. I've already started drinking my water. :)
1. Devotion - Intentionally taking time for solitude and finding God in the peacefulness, even if it's only a few minutes a day.
2. Pills

I have all the usual goals for my day. I haven't paid any attention to them since last Wednesday, so they're feeling fresh and comforting. I'm going to revel in getting back to my workday routine.
I'm wearing new clothes from head to toe (with the exception of my socks & shoes). These are clothes that fit well and that I feel good in. The top is a cheerful mix of stripes in yellow, light green, white, pink and coral and the sweater is a 3/4 sleeve yellow that matches. The pants are a heather grey pair of Lee khakis that are so comfy, yet look dressy. Everything was bought on sale too! :p
Time for me to attack the backlog of emails and assignments. I've got to pay for taking Thursday and Friday off, you know! :teeth:

I earned smilies for devotions and pills yesterday. DS had a group of friends over and we ordered pizza for the gang. Since I haven't been to the grocery store, there was nothing healthy for me to eat. Gotta fix that. ::yes::
I'm trying really hard to feel :sunny: this morning, but the DZone is hitting me hard and the pinched nerve in my shoulder area is giving me trouble and ... and ... and ... Let's face it - I'm tired and cranky this morning. :( :tilt: Nevertheless, the day awaits with much to do.
Today:
1. Devotions - Hope is something to receive from God rather than something we must pursue. I don't have to be more "spiritual" or try harder. All I have to do is turn my eyes away from myself and my circumstances and turn them to God and receive the boundless hope He offers.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - on my first mug.
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ almonds
5. Exercise - yes, I should, but I feel so mentally and physically tired. I'm not sure which would help more - rest or exercise?
6. Bedtime - 10 PM
Work is overwhelming and I can feel my depression trying to take root. Part of this is that I'm in the DZone, so everything looks darker and more foreboding than it really is. Baby steps will get me through the day. I've got my to-do list and it's highlighted with lots of pretty color - I enjoy using it.
My plan is to pray often, drink water often, and take baby steps through my to-do list. Tonight I'll try to see the chiropractor.
Into the day, looking upward and receiving hope.

It's just after 3 PM and I'm ready to start my day. :p
I had one of my crashes. I came home from work yesterday and slept a few hours. Then I slept soundly overnight. I took the day off work to rest. I'm finally feeling more like myself.
I just read my devotions, had some yogurt with walnuts, started my water and took my pills.
I'll be taking it easy tonight, gearing up to face two more days of work this week.

Can it be the end of March already??? March has been true to form - in like a lion, out like a lamb. I must say I'm enjoying the spring weather and the longer days. :cloud9:
I did absolutely nothing yesterday, except rest. :p
I read an article that explained to me why I have these crashes (as I call them) where I am literally so fatigued, mentally and physically, that I cannot function and shut down. When you're really stressed and anxious during the day but the issues are unresolved, your mind tries to resolve the stress and anxiety by dreaming during the night. The more stress, the more dreams your mind must dream to try to resolve it. Unfortunately, your brain waves while dreaming are very similar to your brain waves while awake. You don't get enough time in the deep restful state of sleep that restores and heals your body. If this goes on night after night, you end up very run down and hormonally out of balance and you eventually "crash" (my term), so your body can take time to rest and heal and rebalance.
This makes perfect sense to me. It also makes me feel better. When I crash, I feel so guily and inadequate. Other people keep functioning - why can't I? If I just put my mind to it, I should be able to get out of bed and be normal, right? If the above theory is true, then this is a physical problem and I need to rest and give my body time to catch up and not feel guilty about it. I truly can't just "snap out of it" and function normally because my body is out of balance.
For those who haven't been following my story too long, my crashes initially were once every week or two, often lasting 2 days at a time. Now, I seem to have one crash every 3-4 months. I do feel like I'm coping better with stresses for the most part. It has been a long learning process, like peeling the layers of an onion skin. I still have more to learn but I'm much more hopeful than when I started this journey.
Enough of this and on with my day! I'm at work. I'm dreading my tasks but am trying to stay hopeful and break things down into baby steps. My mind is definitely functioning better than it was on Monday and Tuesday (when I got NOTHING done at work  ), so I should be able to get some things done. I'm going to be very realistic though and set small goals for my day.
Tonight DS has his first voice lesson, DD has an eye doc appt, and DH & I have a meeting at the church. It will be a busy day and evening so I'm going to cut myself some slack.
1. Devotions - Treasure birthdays, for as you grow older, you grow in self-confidence and wisdom.
2. Pills - on the desk to be taken with breakfast.
3. Water - on the first mug
4. Healthy eating - B will be yogurt w/ walnuts & a banana. The fact is that my serotonin level is down and my body is craving carbs to help raise it. I'll try to make reasonable food choices. More carbs does not have to mean pigging out on candy and junk food and soda (which I did on Tuesday and yesterday  ). I can eat healthy carbs like fruit to satisfy my body's needs.
5. Exercise - none planned for today, but I'll be back at the health club tomorrow.
6. Bedtime - 10 PM, if I make it that late. :p 9 PM is probably more like it.
I'm feeling better and on the mend. I'll be working hard to not get overly stressed at work today, which will be difficult. The weekend is coming. :cloud9:

03-31-2005, 08:14 AM
 I think it is wonderful you are getting to really know what makes your body tick and understand it. You are also so open about this that I think that can help others. I like you describing the layers like onions.....it makes perfect sense. Take good care of yourself today and hold your head high for coping with a difficult situtation with such understanding. Have a good day. :goodvibes

03-31-2005, 09:22 AM
Of course you shouldn't feel bad about your crashes - we all have them. :) Make sure to update your task list and color code them - you know it always makes you feel that you are getting more accomplished. Try to give yourself mini mental breaks through out the day so that you will be able to get through the long evening.
Pssstt.....I'm enjoying the spring weather as well :sunny:

I agree with WIlderness. You are learning about how your system works. Eventually, you will probably be able to head a crash off. You'll recognize the symptoms, and be able to take a day off in advance to slow things down. Now, you are doing what is necessary to keep yourself healthy.
I m sending extra energizing :wizard: for the rest of your long day.

No April Fools here - just happy it's FRIDAY!!!!
:rockband: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!!!
It's an oldie but a goodie! Kudos to Cindi Lauper!
I am at work. I confess that I accomplished nothing of value to my employer yesterday at work. I did get to pop into lots of journals but still have more to visit. Today I really MUST do some work.
DS had his first voice lesson yesterday, and the teacher told him she is very pleased. Apparently he has quite a range and can hit pitch. Now he just needs to work on control. She feels he has an excellent chance of making it into the chorus for our community production of Annie Get Your Gun. She's helping him prepare his audition piece. Auditions are in 2 weeks.
Our visit to the eye doc went ok. I picked up the new lenses for my glasses - same prescription but without all the scratches. :teeth: DD picked up a new set of contacts and got quite the lecture on actually taking them out and cleaning them once a week. If she doesn't do it, I will change the password on the computers - no access until she complies. The eye doc says that if her lenses aren't much cleaner next time, she will no longer give out contacts and will only prescribe glasses. DD's glasses would be VERY thick and she lives in mortal fear of being seen in them. :p
On to today! I have a decent amount of energy - enough to get through today. Tonight a group of ladies from the church are gathering for game night. We always have such a fun time and basically laugh a lot. I'm looking forward to some time to relax with some friendly faces.
There is nothing else planned for the weekend, except rest, rest, and more rest, and getting prepared for next week (food, laundry, etc.) so my days will run smoothly. I'm going to look for some crock pot recipes so dinner will be ready to eat when I get home next week. ::yes::
Today:
1. Devotions - "In a threatened world, in the kaleidoscopic whirl of our life patterns, it can be enormously reassuring to remind ourselves that God is unchanging." - Gini Andrews
2. Pills - on the desk and ready to be taken with breakfast
I'm taking a day off from my other goals. I haven't met them consistently in ages and I'm tired of writing them. :p I'll still be mindful of drinking water, eating healthy, exercising and bedtime but I'm not writing them down today.
Blessings to all of us throughout our day! :grouphug: :sunny:

I'm glad to hear that DS enjoyed his voice lesson. There's nothing like singing for self-expression. It sounds like he has a positive, encouraging teacher; the teacher-student relationship is extra important when studying voice. . .there has to be a sense of trust there.
Have a good day, sweetie--

I'm at work and I have a lot to do, so this should be short and sweet. The worst of TOM is over. Since my level of depression is closely linked to my cycle, I know I've got 2 good weeks ahead of me. It's time to try to catch up on all the work I've blown off the last 2 weeks (when my depression was at its worst). I won't get around to journals today but I'm sending :goodvibes and :grouphug: to all.
Tonight DH and I are headed to the home of a friend from church. A small group is getting together with one of our pastors who suffers from depression. I'm looking forward to it. I'm always trying to learn more about depression and how to cope with it.
I've got all the usual goals. I'll post the updates later in the day.

Good morning. . .oops, good afternoon, Doreen! I had a hard time logging on this morning, so I had to do laundry instead of journal on the WISH. What a way to spend the morning! :confused3
I hope you have a good day. It feels good to be on the other side of the DZone, doesn't it? I think your small group discussion tonight will give you
some special support.
Hugs to you, WISH-sis--

Last night's meeting was very interesting. Hearing the stories of others who are struggling with depression was enlightening and encouraging and sad all at the same time. I came away feeling not so alone and with a lot to think about.
Today I am at work. I missed a major deadline last week and am dealing with the fallout as best I can. The urge to hide under the covers was strong but I won't gain anything by doing that now, so here I am. DH's job is extremely stressful too and has been for the past few months. It looks like his situation will get worse before it gets better. It's hard when we're both having such stress - usually it's only one of us and the other can be supportive.
1. Devotions - Relying on God's strength when we are at our weakest.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - on my second mug
4. Healthy eating - B = yogurt w/ slivered almonds, L = grapefruit, PM snack = apple w/ PB, D = a turkey breast I put in the crock pot this morning (patting myself on the back for that one!!)
5. Exercise - a walk outside this evening
6. Bedtime - In bed to read my book by 9:30, turn off the light by 10 PM.
Blessings to all today! :grouphug:

 to you this morning, Doreen. I hear what you're saying about you and DH feeling the strain. I know what a team you and Todd are, and I hope that you can feel that unity now, even though you're both walking stressful paths. Sometimes just reaching out together in a "we'll get through this" hug can help a lot. Hold on tight to each other through all of this. Do you have any down time together that you can look forward to this weekend?
Take some time on this :sunny: Tuesday to get out and get a breath of fresh air. Turn your face up to the sun and feel the promise of spring.
Love and peace,

I always get so much inspiration by seeing how you take on life. Push on past the down days and get on with it! (If its OK for you to have a sleep in and stay in the jammies a bit longer - then its OK for me too.)
I do hope your DS enjoys his voice lessons. Having an ear and voice for music is such a gift. The lessons will be great for his sense of self too. I hope that he is able to do the play as well.

Thank you all for your kind words. I must tell you that I do not FEEL very inspirational these days. :p I feel like I'm getting through each day by the skin of my teeth. But maybe therein lies the inspiration - it's just the courage to get up each morning and do the best we can. The quote in my signature truly embodies how I feel.
I didn't do too bad yesterday. The workday went relatively well. My food choices at work were ok except for the peanut M&Ms from the EVM. Once home, the family visited the chiropractor for our monthly adjustment. We enjoyed the turkey breast from the crockpot - the meat fell right off the bone! - and some rice. However I indulged in some ice cream and a chocolate covered cherry. I got to bed late. I forgot that DS has play rehearsals every night this week in anticipation of opening night this Friday. He didn't get home until 10:45. We were all dragging this morning. :p
Today is a new day and temps will be in the high 70s!!! :cloud9: I must force myself to walk a lap around the building at lunch time to get out in the sun. Tonight we all get haircuts and I'll get more blonde highlights. Then DS has another rehearsal, so I'm afraid I'll be up late again.
The play DS is doing is for our church's district. It's called "Dirk's Exodus" and is about a man in the Netherlands in the 1600s who was jailed for his religious beliefs. He escaped and the warden who was trying to recapture him fell through the ice. Dirk stopped to help him and of course was recaptured and eventually put to death but he felt it his duty to help his fellow man, no matter what the cost. DS has a couple minor roles, but I am so thankful that he is doing this play with many excellent adults from our church who love him and care about him and who inspire his Christian walk in such a positive way.
I'm feeling very tired and weary. There may be a Coke or tea with caffeine in my future today. Work is weighing heavy but there's no antidote other than to get on with it and get it done.
My theme song today - "I Will Survive!" Was it Patti LaBelle that sang it?
1. Devotions - God knows where you are emotionally, including all your sins. He loves you and welcomes you with open arms, no matter what.
2. Pills - taken.
3. Water - on that first mug
4. Healthy eating - B = turkey sandwich with the leftover turkey from last night - DELISH!!, I have a yogurt, a grapefruit and an apple w/PB to get me through the day, D will be ham steaks.
5. Exercise - one lap around my building (.5 mile) in the warm sunshine
6. Bedtime - 11 PM

:rockband:
At first i was afraid, i was petrified
Kept thinkin' i could never live without you by my side
Then i spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong
And i grew strong
And i learned how to get along
And so you're back from outer space
I just walked in to find you here, with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If i had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me
Go on now, go walk out the door
Just turn around now
'coz you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye?
Did you think i'd crumble?
Did you think i'd lay down and die?
Oh no not i, i will survive
For as long as i know how to love, i know i'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live
And i've got all my love to give
I'll survive
I will survive
Hey hey
(i, i will survive)
Hey hey
(i, i will survive)
Every day
(i, i will survive)
Oh yeah
It took all the strength i had not to fall apart
Just trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
And i spent oh so many nights just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry, but now i hold my head up high
And you see me, somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you
And so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free
Just keep singing girl! You are so awesome - I know you feel weary but ya know what I feel from your post - strength. Good Honest to God strength of what it takes to get up in the morning and go to work, to raise your kids, to be a good wife. It isn't the kind of strength that shows muscle, except for the most important muscle of all - our heart. You are such an inspiration to me because you help to guide me on the kind of person that I want to be. Thanks for being my North Star when the night gets foggy.

1. Devotions & 2. Pills - done.
3. Water - on my 3rd mug
4. Healthy eating - have stuck to the food I brought in spite of intense chocolate cravings. No EVM for me today - all I have is a $20 bill so no change!! :teeth:
5. No exercise yet.
6. Still hoping to get to bed by 11 PM.

 oreen,
I have to add my thanks to everyone else's. Doreen, you are an inspiration daily. You work fulltime, are a loving mother and wife, are involved in your church and community. You also take time out of your day to help support us. Oh yeah, you've battled depression and won. Let's see, you completed the 1/2 marathon, and try daily to do the best you can to stay healthy. You should be very proud of yourself, because we all are. You have bledded all of our lives. I KNOW that I wouldn't be on this board and still trying to lead the healthy life without knowing that you as an inspiration.
I hope you get some good seep tonight. I am also sending some :sunny: your way.

The food thing totally fell apart when I got home last night. The problem is that DH doesn't get home from work until after 6 PM. Then he wants to DO stuff, like work around the house, etc. before dinner. We end up not eating dinner until 8 PM many nights. When I get home around 5 PM, the thought of waiting until 8 PM to eat makes me want to have "just a little something" to keep me going until then. Of course this translates into junk food when it's around. The Easter candy is going to be the death of me!
I was thinking this morning that I should plan an after-work snack menu every day, just like I plan all my meals. I KNOW I'm going to eat when I get home. Why leave it to chance and hunger to determine what I'm going to reach for? It's pretty late this week to plan but I'm going to start thinking about ideas for next week's afternoon snacks. ::yes::
So for yesterday I earned smilies for devotions, pills, exercise and bedtime. 4 smilies is better than I've been doing. I dragged the puppy out for a quick walk after work and haircuts - am hoping she'll cooperate and we can make this a habit - it does us both good.
Today:
1. Devotions - God waits patiently for us until we come to Him.
2. Pills - taken
3. Water - on mug 3 already!
4. Healthy eating - B = turkey sandwich (more leftover turkey - sooooo good!), L= yogurt, grapefruit and apple w/PB to get me through the day, a snack when I get home - maybe an LC english muffin w/ a little jelly?, D=the ham steaks I didn't make last night :p
5. Exercise - another walk with puppy when I get home
6. Bedtime - 10 PM
There is NOTHING on the calendar for tonight so I'm going to take it easy. Tomorrow will be work and then DS' opening night play performance - a long day so I need to rest up this evening.
Work is getting better little by little - no major crisis at this time. :teeth:

Hey girl - I've got an idea! Why not set something up in the crockpot for dinner. That way you can eat when you get home at 5pm and then Todd can eat at 8pm and it will all still be warm and yummy! I use my crockpot all the time - it is such a lifesaver!!! I also think that having pre-planned after work snacks will be an excellent idea to keep you away from the Easter Candy. When was the last time you had Chicken Ala Amanda? That is an easy, fast, and yummy thing to make after work. There is also Apples and Peanut butter, raw veggies in veggie ranch dip, and so on.
Have a great day today - I'm sending lots of :sunny:

Whew!!!!! We finally made it to Friday. This week has seemed never-ending to me and I'm proud of myself for making it to work all 5 days this week! :cool1:
I THOUGHT last evening would be quiet but we spent it cleaning. We've had a ton of rain lately and the ants outside have decided that our nice dry home is better than their flooded out home. The exterminator sprayed outside and inside on Tuesday, which just served to drive the ants MORE indoors so he is coming back out this morning to spray again.
Food last night was awful again and probably will be today too. I must get back out to the grocery store. The kids keep eating all my healthy food and I want to encourage that, but I'm going to have to start labeling the food I want to save for my workdays with "KEEP YER PAWS OFF!" signs. :rotfl:
Today I'm very tired from a long week and I'm in survival mode. My goal is just to get through the day. I won't be real strict with food so I'm not even going to set that as a goal. In fact I think I'll limit my goals to devotions (done), pills (done) and water (trying for 60 ounces today).
Tonight I'll take DD for a quick trip to get a birthday present for a friend and then drop her off for a sleepover. After that it's off to see the opening performance of DS' play. Then I'm coming home, winding down and sleeping as long as I can - no alarm clocks tomorrow!! :p
So let's start the Friday party! :rockband:
Today's first song will be "Whenever I Call You Friend" sung by Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks, dedicated to all my WISH buddies who are so encouraging to me and meant in a purely platonic way!!
Wishing peace and joy to all my WISH friends today! :grouphug:

Pearlieq - nice to know I'm not alone in trying to keep the family from stealing all my healthy food. Guess everyone should start buying stock in Breyers yogurt because I'll need to buy 21 containers each week to have enough for my kids AND myself. :p
Tracy - thanks for the tune! Twist & Shout is so cheery! It's impossible not to smile and dance when it's on! Disney thoughts are always good! ::yes::
Last night's play performance was wonderful! We had a great time talking to many friends and new acquaintances at the party afterward too. It's nice to have time to chat and connect with others. I don't do this nearly enough.
Today I slept in until 8 AM!!! :earseek: How nice to wake up at a leisurely pace instead of hitting the alarm clock and jumping out of bed on a tight schedule to get out the door. :cloud9:
My plans today include a 2 - 3 mile walk in the sunshine, 2 loads of laundry (wash, dry, fold and PUT AWAY!), and writing a proposal for creating a web site for the child care center. If I get those 3 things finished, the day will be a huge success! My goals are all the same, so I won't list them. I haven't started on any of them yet.
Blessings to all on this glorious day! :sunny:
EDIT: 10:15 AM
Just finished walking 3 miles with DS in the beautiful sunshine!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: It took less than 45 minutes and we were strolling at a very comfortable pace, not pushing. I think I'll do just fine next weekend at Ocean City. :cloud9:

:sad2: It's Monday. :sad2:
I'm trying to put a positive spin on things but the truth is that I'm feeling down. Monday is here. This work week looks like a not-so-good one. My brain says to have a positive attitude but my stomach is tied in knots. This goes deeper than negative self-talk - it's more of a gut reaction. How can I fight that?
Thank goodness I only work 4 days this week. Friday I'm off - it's my travel day to Ocean City for the half marathon on Saturday. By Friday I'll NEED a day off. :p I'm so looking forward to a couple days spent with my dear friend Erin. It will help wash away all the stress of this work week.
Breakfast was from the EVM - a bottle of water and a pack of crackers. I just took my pills. Devotion this morning talked about giving, both in times of plenty and in times when you feel you don't have much to give, trusting God to provide. I have many thoughts on this but will sum it up this way - when I have more time than money, I'm apt to donate my time rather than dollars.
Today I'll do the best I can. I'm altering my goals.
1. Spend time in prayer at least 3 times today.
2. Walk at least one mile after work.
Those are my only two goals. I think they are the two things I can do to truly help myself today.
My scale is still stuck on 155. At least it isn't going up. I haven't been eating properly and exercising enough to expect it to go down. After the OC half, I'll try to work on this.
Onward into my day.

Good morning, Doreen, and extra  for your work day. It's hard to accept the physical "gut" feeling, but deep, deep inside you know that you can cope with the challenges that this day brings, even with that darn annoyingly tight "this is my body saying it's Monday" stomach. Don't be bluffed by the physical, WISH-sis--float on into your day. Mondays are darn hard.
I'm looking forward to our weekend together--this is going to be such an amazing adventure for me. Is there anything I should know? I'm going to bring a bottle of water when I walk and wear sunscreen. . .is there anything else? Are you going to eat in any special way this week? Will you wear two pairs of socks? I don't want to overthink this too much--I like just thinking of it as a "hike"--but I don't want to get caught unaware, either. You're the expert, so I'll trust whatever you say.
I think that even if something comes up with Nazareth on Sunday, we should spend the night on Saturday. DH, actually, was the one who talked me into it. He said, "Erin, you've never done this before and you don't know how your body will react. You may be wiped out. I don't think you should plan on driving home on Saturday." He makes a good point, so let's just figure on an early start on Sunday, OK?
Know that, like every day, you're in my prayers.
Take care,
Erin

A friend of mine taught me a little trick to help calm the anxiety that you are feeling. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, inhale and then exhale. Now think what is the BEST thing that could happen this week in regards to you work - make it reasonable. Now what is the WORSE thing that could happen this week - make it reasonable. Now realize that what will actually happen will be somewhere in between the best and worse. In a happy medium! :) It may not work for you, but it works really well for me - especially since I tend to focus on the negative part of the equation. Another tried and true method - make a list by priority, color code it, and work your way down one thing after another.
Try to focus on the positives in your life. You have great friends :flower: , your children are happy, healthy, and focused on their goals :flower: , you have a handsome and loving husband :flower: , and you are very important to a lot of people - especially those OUTSIDE of work. :)
I know you are going to do fine - I'm going to sit here and say a little prayer for you today and send you lots of :goodvibes
