Cool pics! I'm a sucker for baby pictures. I do love the "Little Safari Guide."
I have no idea what the headboard represents, but I'm sure it has some underlying meaning. They never do something just because it's pretty. I guess I could ask and find out.

Hi Everybody, just thought I'd come out and play. It's so nice to come here after a looooong day at work. I'm trying really hard to make it here more often.
wendypooh Thanks so much for the georgous pics. I have one with the sun coming over the Lodge facing it from Arusha Rock. When I have enough posts, I'll put it up. Love the pic of the headboard!!! I take pictures of things like that too. When I went in September, I took 350 pictures a day. I'm convinced I don't have one of everything yet. It's why I go back. :rolleyes1
Kitka I love your pics too! Thanks to everyone who have posted them. I can't get enough.
I only booked a standard room because I never spend much time (ha! any time) in it. I really don't want to spend the extra bucks now, but next time I'll have to try it. I'm definitely spending my first day at the Lodge and not going to any of the parks. I want to do the culinary tour...for sure.
I'm with ya on the zebra dome addiction. I've eaten at Boma twice now and the first thing I do is head for them on the buffet. I swear. Everytime I go to that restaurant, I end up waddling back to my hotel room. Those things are mmmmmmmmgood!!!!

Although my recent stay was very short and I would hardly qualify for 'vet' status- I'll chime in here as I did treat myself to a massage just last Friday (4/28).
I planned it for the end of the day- 5:30 which worked great. I spent the day at the Animal Kingdom then returned to the Lodge and went down to the Zahanati Health Club at 5 to use the steam room before my massage. There is a good size steam room and sauna in each locker room. I'd recommend using one before your massage so your muscles are on their way to being relaxed and the actually massage just really works out the really tough spots.
Anyway, the Health Club portion has many cardio machines and TVs. Looked like a decent place to get a work out. However, after spending all day walking around the AK- I didn't have ANY interested in more cardio work!
I had a 50 minute aromatherapy massage and it was wonderful! Locker rooms and treatment rooms were very clean. The woman that gave me my massage was very friendly and it was a good massage. My only slight complait was that the room was a tad, just a tad on the cool side and there was a constant blowing noise- I couldn't decide it was 'white noise' by design or we just happened to be in the treatment room under the air conditioner unit.
I'd recommend the facility and massages! Of course if you top your massage off with a pack of Zebra Domes that you can pick up from Mara- you'll totally be in heaven after your massage!
Enjoy!

ITA!!!!!!!!!! We spent a portion of each day in the marketplace. We are so bad, but we do love shopping! I can tell you that I will never wait to make a purchase again, though. A friend joined us for a little visit, and when we left to catch a bus for dinner, she bought the last shirt in my size!!!!!! Now I am going to have to exersize so that I can fit in the smaller size (yes, I had to have it anyway... I am one of those people who think that it is going to happen, hope I can do it, just to prove DH wrong ;)) Anyway, the staff is friendly and the merchandise is fun.

The Aromatherapy Massage was $105.00 (plus tip) for a 50 minute massage. They offer 25, 50 and 80 minute massages. I thought 50 min was just perfect. I couldn't imagine lying there for 80! The regular Swedish Massage runs $90 (plus tip) for a 50 minute massage.

wendypooh-Fabulous room photos and great Safari Outfit on your little guide-I hope they have something similar when we are there...we bought a print in Zawadi Marketplace three years ago but I don't remember a lot about the clothing because we were staying at the WL and bought some clothing there instead...
Don't mean to be repetitious but ...Does anyone know whether there are any scrapbooking supplies specially AKL/AK themed? I'd like to begin collecting them slowing before our trip....

Patricia asked about scrapbook papers for AKL/AL. Yes, they have AK papers and some good papers that can be used for AKL. You can also buy some great animal 3-d stickers to go with any of the papers. I found the papers on www.scrapyourtrip.com You can also get a kit of all the parks that has AKL in it.

Patricia ~~
As far as scrapbooking supplies, I'm not sure about specif one's to AKL. I did make a scrapbook for our trip though, all of my "AKL" pages, I just made myself. I actually paper pieced the tree of life from a template I made from a pic I found. I will have DH take some pics for me either tonight or tom. and I'll post them for you. I also made "extra" pages from all the rest of the supplies I had, my plan was/is to sell them on ebay. If you are interested in seeing the AKL or safari one, PM me. I'll send you a photo. The pages are 12x12 pages.

Kimmar067 - You think 80 minutes will be too long, but trust me when I say there is no massage that is too long. :teeth: The 50 minute is going to fly by and you're going to say "It's over already?" It's a bit cheaper at the resort health clubs, but you can get an AP discount @ the spa. I like all the amenities the spa has to offer, too. I don't feel the health club is comparable.
I wonder why my pics aren't showing up? I got them off my web shots album. :confused3

To any one who has had the massage-are there certain times that you can schedule them at AKL-since it doesn't have the full spa like Grand Floridian, is someone on staff there or do they come over on an add needed basis? (I'd love to have one at the end of the day, after the parks but that might not be possible based on the hours.) pixiedust:

When I called for my appointment, I didn't get a sense that times were limited because it wasn't a full spa. Their treatment hours are from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm so I would think that you could request anytime during their hours.
I only called about a week before and I guess I lucked out because I was able to get an end of day appointment which is what I wanted. I had a 5:30 appointment which worked great after having spent the full day at the AK.

Scoutsmom>> I have actually received two cakes from AKL's concierge. Both of them were the same, though on different trips. I am sure that private dining could get you the price. I was never charged for either cake. One was a birthday cake for my son, the other was Happy Graduation for my daughter. The cake is multiple layers and is DELICIOUS! Neither cake was finished completely, even my son couldn't finish up his and he eats and eats! Serving three giant slices was only about a quarter of the cake.
The birthday cake was a surprise. The graduation cake I requested since my DD wasn't on the first concierge trip and the trip was her graduation present from us *although DH wasn't there during our July trip* Both cakes included plates/napkins/utensils. The birthday cake also had confetti/streamers/blowers/hats with it.
I must get through the next few months!

OK, I've read 50 pages, and don't know if I can get through the rest of it this week!!! So I have to ask this question - we will be at AKL 5/25-6/1...Pool view room.
If I'm reading upthread correctly, I should request non-smoking, bunk bed, Zebra Trail, 5th or 4th floor. Do I have that right? We aren't going to do concierge this time around (may regret it, but we're taking our chances).... Does what I've summarized sound like a good plan? If so, then how do I do it? Do I just call the lodge? Someone said something about faxing...is that a better way? I know there are no guarantees, but I'd like to try.
Also...DH and I will be celebrating our anniversary that weekend (even though the kids will be with!). If I tell someone that, will they do anything special? I'd like to surprise him, but not on the night we arrive (not getting there until after 11:00 pm on the 25th).
I'm loving this thread...SO EXCITED!!!

You have to use something like photobucket if you want to post your pics. I had the same problem orginally and webshots doesn't host pictures for other websites apparently.
Thanks, Scoutsmom99! Rats - I'm going to have re-do this stuff.
Hey, Debbie! :wave2: I'm a wee bit homesick myself. I promise to not eat all the zebra domes in June. ;)
Anyone else love the african stew there? Boma's - Deeeelllliish!
On our last trip this past Feb. DH and I walked the entire length of the Zebra & Kudo trail and checked out the view from all the stairwells and openings we could find.

Debbie
Debbie- Thank-you so much for the information about the cake. I hope you have a wonderful trip this summer :goodvibes

We genenerally fax our request 2-3 days prior to our arrival. My understanding is the rooms are blocked out only 2-3 days in advance, so faxing or calling prior to that time wouldn't be helpful. The AKL fax number is 1-407-938-4799. Definitely mention in the fax, and at checkin that you are celebrating your anniversary. You may receive an autographed Mickey & Minnie card. For our anniversary we received a split of champagne from the WL! ...or you may receive nothing. I always go with the attitude that nothing is guaranteed, and if we receive anything just be appreciative.
We had a 2nd floor, Zebra Trail pool view room last year. The view wasn't wonderful, but the location was GREAT! Close to excellent animal viewing, pool & hot tubs, The Mara/Jiko/Boma, and DD8's favorite-the flamingo pool! WONNNNNK!!!

Thanks for the scoop! I def won't expect anything on the anniversary thing...this trip is our anniversary gift to each other, and we promised not to get eachother anything else, but I'd like to acknowledge it somehow...may just plan an evening sans kids (they'd enjoy Simba's clubhouse, I think) and surprise him with that....
DD8 saw a pic of the flamingo pool today & she is stoked about feeding them...woohoo!

Whoa Doggies (says the Way-Out-West Member of the Jambo Wild Bunch)
You all have been busy. Five pages since my post yesterday afternoon. Impressive! :sunny:
Scoutsmom - I have to tell you about the cake my DH ordered and had delivered. He ordered it through IPO and it was from Jiko. It was chocolate with Ameretto filling. It was four layers, iced in white wonderful icing. The size was a full 9-12 inch cake pan. It was waiting in our room when we returned from our anniversary dinner. It was delivered on a large tray with confetti, plates, napkins and sliverware. They had a signed card waiting from Beauty and The Beast on the tray. My DH paid $40.00 for this cake. It was.......almost...no...it was as good as a Zebra Dome :rolleyes1
We ate off of it, including for breakfast some mornings for several days. {Well, we were on vacation!} It was decorated with Happy Anniversary and our names, plus it had AKL animals done with iceing. I will try and find a picture. Promise.
The concierge also sent their own greetings for our anniversary with a white cake sitting next to the Jiko cake. Theirs had a Anniveresary greeting on it and more plates, and set-ups. This did not cost us anything. Good cake and a very nice surprise.
I have so much more to say, put it is getting late and I need to head up to bed. Good Night All,
Angel

Angel- Oh my goodness that sounds soooo good and only $40! I would love to see a pic if you are able to scrounge one up. I can handle almost as good as a zebra dome!!! I'm trying to think of some little supirses for my mom and sister for our trip and I thought either a cake at AKL or one at the Garden View Afternoon Tea would be a special treat.

Most of this information has already been posted. My TA sent this to me, so I thought I would share :)
Magical Resort Guide for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
2901 Osceola Parkway
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-1000
Telephone: (407) 938-3000
Fax: (407) 938-4799
Resort Information: If you have ever want to experience an African Safari,
but were hesitant to do it without electricity, running water or indoor
plumbing, then this is the place for you. This is one of the most
incredible and beautiful resorts on Disney property and offers an absolutely
unique experience. Excuse me if I gush in this resort guide, but I can’t
say enough wonderful things about this resort. It has something for
everyone.
The resort is built around a savannah, complete with giraffes, zebras,
wildebeest, ostrich and many other animals. You can reserve a room with a
gorgeous Savannah view, which means you will be able to gaze over the
savannah at all those animals from the comfort of your own private balcony.
Whenever we are there we don’t want to leave - even to go visit the most
famous theme parks in the world! There are also viewing areas located
around the resort. The sunset savannah lounge is especially relaxing and
enjoyable. Also, don’t miss the Arusha rock outdoor viewing area.
The lobby has a three-story wall of windows and is spectacular. Take time
to notice the hand carved African furniture, the African art and the African
music. The theming at this resort is wonderful.
The Savannahs: There are three savannahs found around the resort. The
Arusha Savannah, the Sunset Savannah and the Uzima Savannah. The animals
that are on each savannah vary, but giraffe are present on each savannah.
The animals are out on the Savannah all day, except for a small period of
time when they are taken inside in the afternoon. The animal care staff
uses this time to look over the animals and they also perform routine
maintenance on the Savannahs.
Rooms: There are three different views in the standard size rooms which
sleep 4 plus one child under three in a crib. Standard view rooms have a
view of the parking lots or other public areas. Pool views have a view of
the gorgeous zero-depth entry pool. Finally, Savannah view rooms have a
view of one of the Savannahs; this means you will have your own balcony
where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. Standard rooms can have two queen
beds, one King bed or one queen bed and bunk beds based on availability.
Rooms are furnished with a hand carved African armoire, table and chairs, a
vanity area with two sinks, and separate toilet area. Most rooms have a
balcony or patio. Guest rooms also include an iron and ironing board,
hairdryer, in-room wall safe (to hold money or jewelry), voice mail, and
data port on the phone. Coffee makers and cribs can be requested free of
charge. Refrigerators are in every room—no charge.
Some Deluxe rooms can sleep 5 with the addition of a day bed. Concierge
rooms and suites are also available. Just a note, the Animal Kingdom Lodge
has one of the nicest concierge services on Disney property - definitely
worth it if you are in the mood for a splurge.
Rooms spread out from the main lobby in a curved “X” pattern so that the
number of Savannah view rooms is optimized. Room locations are broken into
three locations: the Kudu, Zebra, Ostrich, and Giraffe trails.
Check-in time: 3:00 pm
Check-out time: 11:00 am
If you arrive before check-in time or will be staying after check-out time,
the resort will store your luggage free of charge. It’s a great way to get
some extra time in the parks or at the resort pool.
**Magical tip: if you would like late check-out, call the front desk the
day before you will check-out, they may be able to extend your check-out
time until 1 pm, based on availability.
Dining:
Full service Restaurant: There are at least 2 table service restaurants
located at each deluxe resort.
Boma is the resort’s more casual restaurant. It is a buffet style
restaurant that features foods with an African twist. At dinner, you can
find items like watermelon rind salad, Banana leaf wrapped sea bass,
rotisserie chicken and zebra domes for dessert. But don’t worry; there are
choices for all the less adventurous diners in your party. Staples like
prime rib and children’s selections like chicken fingers, spaghetti and
macaroni and cheese are available to everyone. The soups and the desserts
are especially good, and there are quite a few selections for vegetarians as
well.
Breakfast has its own specialties including breakfast breads, pastries,
meats and a special Kenyan pressed coffee. This breakfast is filling and
fun.
Breakfast and dinner are served daily at Boma.
This is quickly becoming one of the most popular resorts on Disney property.
**Magical Tip: Try the soups, try the soups, and try the soups. Did I
mention you should try the soups? They are excellent!
**Magical Tip: If you are eating at Boma for Breakfast, don’t miss the
signature juice-an African Frunch. It is a blend of lemonade, and guava,
orange, papaya and pineapple juices.
Jiko is the more formal of the two restaurants. It features expert cooking
in a beautiful atmosphere. It is not stuffy or fussy, but casually elegant.
You will find wonderful meat, poultry, seafood and vegetarian entrées as
well as soups, salads and appetizers. This restaurant also features an
incredible list of African Wines. The servers are trained well and are
happy to help guide you through your dining experience.
This restaurant is open for dinner only.
Counter Service Restaurant: The counter service restaurant, Mara, serves a
variety of food. They have choices that appeal to adults and children, and
healthy options are available too. Look for soups, salads, sandwiches,
desserts and children’s items on the menu. They also have some more
interesting choices. Mara is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pool Bar: Uzima Springs is the spot to grab a drink by the pool. Choose
from traditional bar offerings or go for one of the yummy specialty drinks.
There are even non-alcoholic specialties for everyone to sample.
Lounge: Victoria Falls is a relaxing spot near a waterfall, and overlooking
Boma. It features mixed drinks, beer, wine and specialty drinks.
Room Service: There is a good room service menu available. Breakfast in
bed, or a special romance package dinner served on your balcony over looking
the savannah may be just the thing to make your stay complete.
Remember that a service fee and gratuity is added to each order, but
breakfast in your room is relaxing and a great way to start the day. Room
service is typically available from 6 am until midnight.
**Magical tip: if you have soda or coffee drinkers, you may save some money
by purchasing a “refillable mug.” The mugs can be purchased at the resort
and are good for unlimited refills of soda, coffee and iced tea at the
counter service restaurant, Mara, for the length of your stay.
Refillable mugs are available for approximately $12.00 a piece
Recreation:
Pools: The largest resort pool on Disney property is located at the Animal
Kingdom Lodge. Uzima Springs is the name of the pool area, and it is an
expansive zero-depth entry pool surrounded by rock formations. No climbing
down steps or ladders, you can walk right in, just like you would at the
beach.
There is a small wading pool for younger children, and two spas also located
in the pool area. Note that the slide is only open when lifeguards are
present, but the pool is open 24 hours.
Playground: There is a playground located at the resort so the kids can burn
up any extra energy. It is located by the pool area.
Health Club/Spa: Experience rejuvenating spa services — including massage,
and more at Zahanati Spa. Your travel counselor will be happy to provide
more information and secure reservations for spa treatments. You can also
work out in the fully-equipped health club or schedule a Personal Training
appointment.
Shopping: Zawadi Marketplace is the spot where you can pick up Disney and
Animal Kingdom Lodge merchandise. They also have a good selection of
African art, knick-knacks, music and clothing.
Sundries and snacks are also available. Don’t miss the opportunity to pick
up some African music or crafts. Some times an Africa Artisan is working in
the shop.
Arcade: Pumba’s Arcade is located at pool level, near Simba’s Clubhouse and
Mara. It’s a fun arcade, and a great spot to use up any loose change.
Child Care: There is a child care club available at each of Disney’s
Deluxe Resorts except the Boardwalk Inn. At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, you
will find Simba’s Clubhouse located at pool level near the arcade. Child
care clubs are open to children of all on-site guests. Children must be
potty trained and between the ages of 4 and 12. Prices vary, and
reservations can be made by calling 407-WDW-DINE
Child care can also be provided in-room for children of any age by the Fairy
Godmothers, or Kid's Night Out services. These are not Disney services and
prices and requirements vary. Arrangements can be made by calling:
Fairy Godmothers (407) 277-3724
Kid’s night out (407) 827-5444
Resort Services:
ATM: There is an ATM located in the lobby. There is a fee charged for most
transactions.
Laundry: Is located near the pool. You might as well enjoy the pool while
you wash your laundry! This is located near the Arcade and Simba’s
Clubhouse. There is an area where you can watch TV while you wait for your
laundry.
Transportation:
Busses are also available to take guests directly to the 4 major theme
parks, the water parks and the Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island area. A Bus
Stop is located outside the front entrance in a covered area.
Busses run from about one hour prior to park opening to approximately 1- 2
hours after the last park closes. Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island busses
run until approximately 2 am. You will be given a current transportation
map and schedule when you check-in.
Taxi transportation can also be arranged. There is a fee for this service.
Call bell service from your room or check at the desk in-person.
** Magical tip: If you would like to travel to a destination other than
those listed above (say another Disney Resort) take a bus to the nearest
major theme park, and then transfer to a bus to the specific resort you are
looking for.
Staying Connected
If you need to access the internet while you are on vacation, there is a
data port located in each room. Contact you Internet Service Provider for
local numbers, but be aware that you will incur at least a .75 charge each
time you connect- even for local calls. Check with the front desk of the
hotel to determine the phone charges before making any call.
Bell Services: Full service Bell services are available when you arrive at
the resort. They are happy to help you unload, take your luggage, and
deliver it to your room. Bell services can assist with luggage, help with
valet parking, and provide you with directions
There is also a button on your resort room phone that connects you directly
to bell services. When you are ready to check-out they will be happy to
assist you with your luggage. On your check-out day allow bell services a
minimum of 30 minutes to come and get your luggage. It is normal to tip for
bell services and valet parking.
Parking: Free self-parking is available in a large parking lot at Animal
Kingdom Lodge. Valet parking is also available for approximately $6 per day
(this price does not include gratuity). The charge for valet parking will
be charged to your room.
** Magical Tip: You will only pay for valet parking once per day at the
Walt Disney World resorts. Once paid, you will receive a hang tag for your
vehicle that notes you have paid valet charges on that date. You can then
valet park at any other Disney resort without further charges on that day.
Magical Tips: You will see these tips scattered throughout this guide and
we have included some more great tips right here. These are the tips
assembled by out own team of Disney experts and we want to make sure that
you benefit from our experience ;)
**There are guides at the outdoor viewing areas to answer your questions.
They are very knowledgeable so don’t be shy. They are a great resource.
**Make sure you check out the art located throughout the lobby. It is
beautiful and very unique.
**Many of the animals sleep during the day and much more active all night.
This is a great time to watch them. Bring a sweater or jacket for those cool
nights of sitting on your balcony or at Arusha Rock watching the animals
**There is an evening storytelling program at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Join an animated story teller, as he shares folklore, stories and tales.
This usually takes place around the fire pit outside of the resort. Ask for
a schedule at guest services
**There are so many activities that are offered at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Here are just some of the activities that may be offered during your stay:
Horticulture Activity, Animal feedings, Spirit of Africa Art Tour, Animal
Tracking-Arusha Rock , Medallion Crayon Rubbings, Cookie Decorating, Pool
Activities, Children's Arts & Crafts, African Rag Doll Making Culinary
Tour of Africa, The Music of the Savanna, African Games & Crafts, African
Folktales, and Animal Viewing with Night Vision goggles. Maker sure you
look at the back of your resort map when you check-in activities are listed
there.
**Make use of the sunset savannah lounge and overlook. It is a wonderful
spot to see Animals, especially at sunset.
**As a guest of an official Disney Resort be sure to take advantage of the
new early entry program. Each morning one of the 4 theme parks open early
just for resort guests!
**Let family at home know how to reach you - give them the number listed
above and the name of the lead person on your reservation.
**The Walt Disney World Florist offers floral arrangements, snack packages,
and more for delivery to your resort. Visit their website at
www.disneyflorist.com for more information.
**For a friendly awakening, touch “wake-up calls” on your room phone. If
you have kids with you, let them answer or put the call on speaker phone.
**Hair wraps are available near the pool.
** If your child needs assistance while swimming, ask one of the lifeguards
at the pool for a life vest.
**Leave a credit card imprint when you check-in to the resort - this allows
you to have express check-out which saves you a trip to the front desk on
your last day.
An itemized list of any room charges will be on your room door on check-out
day.
**Guests may have purchases shipped back to their resort, so you don’t have
to carry those heavy bags all over the parks. Purchases will be delivered
to the gift shop.

wendy,
I think your pages are awesome and you made them? I'm just getting into the scrapbooking thing- are premade pages ever availabe for sale if you're looking for something special?
tinkme,
Was that amazing write up part of a printed piece you recieved-who ever wrote it is obviously a big fan of AKL-maybe they are even lurking on the board :surfweb: !
There is some great wording in there-I'm thinking scrapbooks, itineraries, etc.
Thanks so much for sharing. :grouphug:

:confused3 Well, I'm not sure what it "meant" in the first place.......... :teeth: I normally don't comment on what someone "looks" like, so forgive me if I'm not sure of what your point was! :thumbsup2
...didja ever come across a DISer's photo of themself and wonder, "Wow, that's NOT what I pictured that person to look like!" I have even thought that several DISers were male and turned out to be FEMALE (and vice-versa)....I dunno, I guess I just get a 'mental picture' of what that person OUGHT to look like. However, you DO look like YOU, if you can understand THAT....you look like your username... :confused3 THAT'S all..... :teeth: !

My uncle, (who by the way is the ONLY one who refers to me by that name)........ gave me that name when I was a baby. I ONLY used it here since this is a DISney board and "pooh" was in it, I thought it would be good to use.
It wasn't meant to describe me, I wouldn't describe myself as "pooh" like? However, if YOU think it means that I'm adorable, loveable, sweet, and just plain cute.......... well, then I CLEARLY :rotfl2: misunderstood!!! LOL

Two years ago when we went to WDW, I ran around and gathered all the scrap booking supplies I could find for my DD's...thinking that it could be the only family trip we had there...well..here it is two years later, and that stuff is all still in the Disney Bags that it came in and we are planning our second family trip.... party:
Wonder if they will use it this time???????? :confused3

Hi Patricia ~~ THANK YOU!!!! It's really nice to hear that people liked my pages. I put a lot of time and effort into them, and I LOVE them, but, it's nice to hear others think they are good too!!!! :grouphug:
Yes, you can get pre-made pages, it just depends on what you are wanting. I know you were interested in AK pages/items, you can find them a lot of places, ebay, scrap stores, etc......
I don't want to get into any trouble, and I'm not soliciting in anyway, but ***FOR ANYONE WHO KNOWS*** Some diser's are interested in the extra pages I have, my plan was/is to list them on ebay, but since they are wanting to see them, am I allowed to publicly post a link to my album??? I'm not sure since they are "going" to be for sale, eventually, and I don't want to do anything I'm not suppose to do!!!

WendyPooh, I love you your scrapbook pages for AKL. They look so professional. You are very talented, the tree of life is my favorite place to sit, rest, look, and photograph. I am sure your pages are even more beautiful in person. So when will they be available to purchase? Thank you for sharing. :thumbsup2
Tinknme- What a great write-up on the lodge. I hope everyone who comes to this thread will see that. Thank you for posting it.
I really want everyone to know that all the rooms are really nice and comfortable. If you can afford to stay in a Savannah view or upgrade to concierge that is wonderful. However, if that is not possible there are so many things to see and do, so many viewing areas, activities, wonderful food and exceptional CM's that everyone can enjoy their visit regardless of the location of their room. I would hate to see people feeling that they can't enjoy AKL without a upgrade view location.
Scoutsmom - I have my DH working on finding the picture as we speak. He is such a sweetie, he will have to post it to a web site so I can upload it. Have never been able to do that in the past so I will have a bit of learning to do tonight. :goodvibes
Have a great afternoon everyone. I have place out a plate of zebra domes, some fresh-pressed coffee for those of us needing an afternnoon pick-me-up, and some fresh veggie with dip. Enjoy!

I have a question for all the AKL experts! :sunny:
What kind of food/drinks are available to purchase in the marketplace/gift shop? I am a DVC owner who wants to try free dining and will be staying at AKL in late September. The DVC gift shops have a section that is set up like a small convenience store with 1/2 gallon milk, loaf of bread, package of bagels, full size bags of snacks, etc.
What is available -- food wise -- at AKL at the Marketplace? I have checked the menu for the Mara Food Court so I already have a good idea of what I can purchase there.
Thanks so in advance.

Holy Cow! I have been working on this thread since Saturday & I've finally read all 123 pages of it!!! Has anyone else found that while reading/looking at these threads & pics, they forget to breathe??? I would be scrolling down a page and when it was time to click to the next page, I'd have to gasp for air. What's up with that???
Just want to thank everone on here for all the info...I can't imagine a single question that hasn't been answered w/respect to AKL!!! I just wish I'd found this site in December when we booked the trip so I wouldn't have missed out on some cool things (some of my ADRs are disappointing, but don't worry, I at least got Boma for dinner one night). The good news is, I now know we need to have at least one full day to devote to AKL alone...I had NO idea there was so much to do there...kind of regretting that we got the MYW w/park hopper, water parks, etc. I don't think we'll be going to more than one water park or plus with everything to do @ AKL!
WOOHOO! I haven't posted enough to be allowed to put a ticker on, but I have 21 days 'til we head for AKL!!!
One question...since we aren't landing until after 11:00 p.m., I assume the DME will take a while to get us to the hotel--we probably won't check in until after midnight! Please tell me it won't take that long to get our room at that time of night!!!

DD8 saw a pic of the flamingo pool today & she is stoked about feeding them...woohoo!
Sorry Andiloo, but only the staff feeds the flamingos. DD8 thought she could feed the flamingos too. There is a childrens program that is near the flamingo pool that demonstrates how flamingos and pelicans eat. It's cute. Following that, everyone is urged to gather around the flamingo pool and watch the handlers feed them. DD8 really enjoyed the whole program. Of course by the end of the week DD8 told me she knew how to speak flamingo..."WONNNNK"! Kimmar has translated this 'flamingoese' to mean "I love living at AKL!" :teeth:

I have been in the Marketplace at the Boardwalk and the AKL giftshop really just offers a few basic things like pop, disney snack items (nuts, pretzels, candy), milk, doughnuts. If there is anything you want in particular I would consider making a grocery run. Last fall I ended up going to the marketplace thing at the Boardwalk to get some cheese and crackers.

I wish I could give you a firm answer. Fireside storytelling is in the evening. The time is different with the seasons and when sundown is. We were there last year during October. The CM's even suggested looking at the board each morning as the times can change. I can safely say it will not be until right around sundown. I know a lot of help I am! Sorry!

Finally, last night I broke down and told her my problem.....We are on the dining plan so all our desserts are included. We are dinning at Boma's on our first night. Luvfigments best friend and new husband will be joining us. I wanted to order a cake to end our meal but if I do that we will not have room in our bellies for all those desserts(zebra domes especially). Luvfigment said she thought she read somewhere that you can special order a sampler of desserts and have something written on the plate. Anyone know? TIA

We just had an early celebration for my son's graduation last month at Boma. I had apparently mentioned the reason when I was on the phone trying (unsucessfully) to add people to the reservation. The waiter brought a card and a wooden tray with "Congratulations" written in chocolate and truffles attached. It was just right to go with the other desserts and it was totally unexpected. Maybe that is what you are talking about. Does the restaurant know that you are celebrating her birthday?

The host saw the anniversary card and they took note of our anniversary. At the end of the meal they made this:

Thank you, Kimmar, for reminding me to check in, and thank you everyone for your lovely pictures of HOME!

Hey ~ Thanks!!!! I love your page too!!! I wish I had waited to make my pages till we got back - ( I made them before we went) I'd have really liked to get some of the literature for the pages, like yours!!! It's really nice-- do you have more to share???
This is from the 1st page when you open my book....I haven't downloaded any more pages, but if I get a chance, I certainly will....::yes::
Another idea anyone can use is to use paper, lettering, etc. with an animal print theme or wood print theme....

Thank you tiggrbaby and Vagal76, that is the perfect compliment to the dinner. A small sampler that will not overfill us!!
I did tell the CM when I made the ADR's that it was a birthday celebration plus a wedding celebration( her friends will be on their honeymoon) and they told me to contact AKL directly. Should I wait until I that day or should I call ahead of time? If call anyone know the phone number?
You are all so helpful!!

I don't know if this is the right number, but it's the one I found. (407) 938-3000
I'd also mention something to the host/hostess upon arrival and maybe again as you are being seated so it doesn't get missed.
We were too full to eat ours and they allowed us to take it back to our room since we were staying at the lodge. Joey in concierge also treated us to chocolate covered strawberries. They were absolutely delish! ::yes::

That is the same number I found in my notes. I know I gave this number to DH when he needed it to contact Zawahti Marketplace for my birthday present. He just asked to be transferred and it was no problem. I know he was indeed talking to them onsite rather than the phone banks.

Wendypooh>> Your work is beautiful! Please keep me posted as to any you might have for sale! I am in awe of your talent!
While I hate to butt in with a question when you're discussing my favorite subject (DESSERTS!), I have been wondering WHERE the concierge lounge is? I have seen pictures that include one of those arched windows, and was wondering if the window overlooked the savanna, or the parking area?
#1hockeymom

As you enter the lodge, turn around and look UP! You'll see the concierge way up there on the sixth floor. It overlooks the lobby, with the savannah windows in the distance. The only windows on the parking lot side are decorative windows near the ceiling. While it does not have a savannah view, you truly feel like you are in an oasis of calmness while lounging/nibbling/talking/resting/unwinding in the lounge.

Promise.
Angel
I come here today with a heavy heart. My DH has been looking for our vacations pictures from 2005 since I posted this. We have lost all of our pictures for our WDW vacation! :sad1: :sad1: :sad2: DH has looked everywhere and he thinks they were dumped when our computer took a death leap right before his heart surgery. We have not only lost WDW pictures, but also pictures of our SIL and daughter before he left for Iraq. And our trip last year to visit our other daughter, SIL, and grandchildren.
So Scoutsmom, all I can say is the cake was fantastic and worth every penny of the $40.00, which I don't think was expensive at all.
I guess we can order another one on this trip so I can get pictures for all. I am willing to make that sacrifice for the Jambo Wild Bunch :rotfl2: After all we will be going for my birthday :rolleyes1 Seems like a pretty good reason to me for another cake. This time we will be taking my lap-top so we can download the pictures the same day.
Now I have to learn how to post pictures. extending a hand toward Scoutsmom's to accept her offer to teach me how to post pictures.

Oh this is great news  I will be there in Oct. on the "free" dining plan! I was wondering if anyone who is going soon could take note of what items in the marketplace are now considered snacks. With the new changes to the snack credits I may not have to worry about bringing breakfast items. I have read that at the BW you can get a whole box of donuts with 1 snack credit. This would be great if AKL has options like this!
ETA: I read this post wrong, but I see in further posts that they are allowed. So I am still excited!

By the way for all that love Rice Crispie Mickeys - I found them in a box of 6 at Zawadi Marketplace on our visit in 2004. They were selling them individually in 2005. But Ferelpeg found them by the box for my DH this past Christmas at DownTown Disney. She was so kind as to shop and mail for me. Thank you Peggy, we just finished the last one this weekend. Lillygator - I don't know how what the range is on the pagers, but why don't you give them a call or just make your dining reservation earlier or later so you can do story telling without interruption. No sense in rushing around if you're just going to graze...I mean lay around. ;)

Well I just got off the phone w/ CRO after a 40+ min phone call. I noticed on our reservation confirmation that they had special requests for the Jamaica bldg. Which we did go from AKL to CBR back to AKL so I really didn't think that much about it. Well apparently there was a problem w/ our ressie because the CM kept putting me back on hold and I just wanted to make sure they had us down for AKL and according to the website it looked like everything was intact but being overcautious I called anyway. Well the CM tells me he has a couple more things to get straightened out and I was on my cell and lost the connection. So I called back and of course had to fill in another CM turns out they had us booked for AKL and BC w/ a heck of a $$$$ bill. So they got everything fixed and the lesson I've learned is try not to change resorts once you book

So I called back and of course had to fill in another CM turns out they had us booked for AKL and BC w/ a heck of a $$$$ bill. So they got everything fixed and the lesson I've learned is try not to change resorts once you book
Yikes, now I'm scared! We went from CSR to AKL when the AP rates came out. Our mail confirmation and Dis website say AKL. I think I did call way back when to confirm. It should be ok right?
Well I just got off the phone w/ CRO after a 40+ min phone call. I noticed on our reservation confirmation that they had special requests for the Jamaica bldg. Which we did go from AKL to CBR back to AKL so I really didn't think that much about it.

Thanks, I'm sure it's fine. I would just hate to get there and have no room. We booked a standard. I guess they would have no choice but to upgrade me. :sunny:

Ok...two days and my first trip to AKL and my first trip to Dis since 1985!! I can hardly contain myself. When I first signed on these boards I laughed at all the Dis addicts. I read so many great tips though. We got an AP for the room discount this time around, not planning to return within a year.
We haven't even gone yet and I'm thinking of taking advantage of free dining and hoping to catch the Wiggles for the kids in the fall. Now advice on how to convince the husband. :rotfl2:

We are currently booked to stay at the AKL in July in a deluxe savannah view room. :cool1: My DH made the reservation for a deluxe room b/c there are 5 of us, however, there are two adults, two kids and a 1 year old. Should we (can we) downgrade to a regular savannah view room? Most resorts allow 4 in a room plus 1 child in a crib (under age 3). What is the difference b/t the deluxe and the "regular" and is the deluxe worth the extra $.
Also, I have a friend in Orlando who will be visiting us during our stay. If we all went to the pool together will she and her kids be "carded"? Are visitors allowed entrance to the pool if accompanied by a guest?
Thanks for all the info and pictures on this thread. I can't say I've made it through EVERY post, but each one I did read I enjoyed!!! Can't wait to go and see for myself!

To all you 'Wild Bunch' who are leaving shortly- have a great time!
Be sure to stop in for a drink at Victoria Falls. My fav is the 'Hangin' Out in Cape Town' as pictured below. It is a blend of Mandarin Blossom Vodka, Peach Schnapps, Van Der Hum (a citrus flavored South African liqueur) and Cranberry Juice. Deeee- lish!
The appetizer is the 'Crisp Bread with three dips- hummus like dips- all very good.

Hi Biohzrd8 - Welcome. First let me say that you are going to love staying at AKL. :wizard: You did not mention how old the two children are, however IMHO you will be more comfortable staying in the deluxe room. It is a little larger, there are more amenities with the room and a better view. There has always been a pac-n-play in the closet each time we have stayed at AKL. You will have a little more floor space to set it up. ALK rooms are on the small side for the deluxe resorts. I think five would have more space in the deluxe.
As far as your friends joining you in the pool. Every where on the board I have read that the pools are only for the resort guests. I can't not tell you if they will "card" your guests. But there are signs up that say AKL resort guest only. On one of our visits I had to show my room key to get a towel and enter the pool area.
Hope you have a Great Vacation. paw:

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure I won't be able to sleep tomorrow night. And can you believe I haven't even packed yet? I think I spend too much time on here. :rotfl:
I'll have to spend the day tomorrow rushing to get everything ready. The trip is perfect timing really. It's supposed to rain the rest of the week here in MA and be in the 50's. 50's to high 80's-that will be a change.
I'll be sure to try the zebra domes, bread bowl/stew, each and every one of the drinks, and some yummy african wine. I'll have to do a lot of walking.
Safe travels to those of you going in the next couple of days as well. We'll probably all bump into eachother and not even know it. If you see two boys ages 2 and 3 with blond hair running around like monkeys with two parents lagging behind exhausted...well that's us.
Lillygator-I hope you got the room you wanted.
Happy trips..I'm sure I'll be cking in here tomorrow too!

Thank you so much for your reply. Our other children are 4 and 7. The 4 year old needs all the room he can get so I think we will stick with the deluxe based on your recommendation. What sort of "other amenities are offered in a deluxe that are not offered in a standard?
We are so excited about staying at AKL!!! Now if they would just release some AP codes already!!!! :hourglass

My last trip to the AKL was in December. Since then I have been reading all your posts and have become very jealous. I don't know when I'll get back to my second home. I guess I have been living vicariously through all the posters on this thread.
To those who are returning to the AKL, well, you know what to expect. To those who are going for the first time, you'll love it. When I enter the lobby, I always feel like I'm in a different world.
To all those entering the world of the AKL, take the time to enjoy it. Relax. Sit back and have a drink (Nahtazu is my favorite). I'll be waiting for all your pictures and trip reports. Have a great trip!

In regard to a question I saw posted. Does AKL sell 1/2 gallons milk? I usually bring cereal for the boys and buy the small cartons but since we are staying at AKL and it has a fridge in the room. I thought it would be better to buy the milk and keep it in the fridge so as not to make a trip in the morning.
Thanks, Tamra :)
