You still should have gotten something in the mail....it's like a small folder with pockets that has a bunch of different things in it, like Concierge offerings (it tells you the times), a paper to make ressies, other sign-up activities, like golf or fishing, and your last name is printed on the front.
Woohoo, 7K posts!!!!

Hey guys........... Thanks~~~ Actually I lost power for most all of the day today, it's been back on about 2 hours. OMG, the wind and rain was terrible, it seemed worse than Katrina. I guess because we were on the other side of the storm this time. There is a lot of branches, etc.... the water was up to my front lawn...... that was shocking!!! It has all reseeded<sp> now. I'm just glad to have power back. As some of you know, DH works in N.O. and so I went through this with just my DS who is 5. It was kinda scary at times, but we are OK. I hope that this is the last storm for a long long while, I'm not sure how much more any of us can take. This trip is going to be a much needed getaway.......... Thanks for thinking of us!!!

Wendypooh,it is wonderful to hear from you! I am glad everyone came through ok. After Isabelle last year we were without power and water for 2 weeks! It was awful. But we had been prepared with bottled water and our gas stove to cook meals. We also have one of those big Coleman coolers that hold ice for 5 days. It was a godsent!!! Anywho, glad you are safe and sound! :grouphug:

Thanks!!!! We are fine, and doing well. My DS is good, he was a little scared a few times, the wind was horrible, and then the flooding rain. We lost my car, it flooded completely. We are just waiting on the insurance now. But, we are fine, and our house is fine.

...but not as likely, especially for $30 extra/nite! The cheapest I had ever heard was $70/$80 extra. Usually, the folks that visit AKL have already booked concierge, 'specially cuz' they wanna sign up for SS... :flower:

Just curious, why would you want to upgrade for concierge? I know that they can get you your ADR's but, won't most of that planning be done already? The only reason why I'd upgrade would be the sunrise safarri, but then I'd have to pay extra for that and get a babysitter for the 13, 9 and 17 month old. I'm not judging, just want to know why, in case it's something I should look into. :goodvibes

Truthfully, two primary reasons. 1. Breakfast near the room. WL concierge was perfect for this. Right down the hall from our room we had coffee, juice, milk, danish, muffins, cereal. It was VERY convenient, and saved us the time it would have taken to go somewhere else for the same food. 2. ADRs. I'm the planner in the family. When it comes to meals my family, however, likes to wait until the last minute. During our June vacation DD7 finally wanted to go to a character meal (she was afraid of them when she was 3-5). Unfortunately, EVERYTHING was booked. No character meal.
Other reasons: evening turndown service with chocolates on the pillow, snacks during the day & evening desserts.

So the breakfasts, and snacks are included? how much more is Concierge? Do you ever get free or discounted upgrades? Also are you saying that with things like character meals booked that they could get you into a meal? How is that possible?
Oooh, I'm so excited. As it turns out, we're not going to have to wait until Aug 2006 to visit AKL for the first time. For our Dec 05 trip, we decided to fly in one night earlier and we picked up one night at AKL concierge. I know it's only one night, but it will give us a "foretaste of the feast to come" in August and will be a heck of a way to kick off a great trip. I just hope the next day they don't lose our luggage somewhere between Africa (AKL) and the New Jersey Coast (BCV) :rotfl2:

....don't necessarily dictate an actual "full meal", but it does provide loads of goodies to keep yer belly filled until that ONE BIG MEAL of the day. Also, there is an abundance of beverages; that alone would cost a mini fortune if ya had to purchase it! I can't remember how many times my DH dug into his pockets for a couple 'o bucvks here and there every time one of my DS's wanted a snack or a drink (you'd be surprised how quickly it adds up!) There is something for everyone - water, yogurt, fruit, soda, iced tea, fruit punch, cookies, and, don't forget - ZEBRA DOMES!!!!!!
As for the PS's, those wonderful folks at concierge seem to always work their magic. They can get ressies for ALMOST anything, with the exception of Cindy's Castle. They can even arrange golf tee times, fishing excursions, spa treatments, and the like.....

I taped the Travel Channel's show on AKL last Friday. I've already watched it over and over. Yesterday I had a very hectic day at work (I'm doing budgets) and I went straight home and watched it again. When my husband walked in and gave me a strange look I told him I was reminding myself what I was working for!!

Hi all, JUST upgraded from POFQ to AKL for my 3-night BUDGET (haha) trip with my stepmom 12/21-12/24. SInce we only have three days, what are the MUST DO things at AKL? And also the costs involved? I am a WL lover, so am quite excited (but nervous) about broadening my horizons. :flower:
Ideas? Just me and stepmom. I have an AP, but she does not...she won't want to go more than 2 of the days into the parks, I am betting.
Oh, and we booked pool/water view since that was the cheapest available with BRP now. Should I make any requests? I just want to REALLY imprss stepmom...this resort-change is her birthday surprise. Also if anyone else is going to be there at that time, would LOVE to meet fellow DISers.

Taximomfor4,
My DH, DD and I will be at the AKL Dec. 17-24. This is our favorite resort at WDW. We have reserved a deluxe, savannah room (5th floor).
There are several threads here that will explain all the free things to do at the Lodge. We love just walking around the grounds to see all the animals and talking to the friendly CMs from South Africa. The lobby is breathtaking. We enjoy eating at Boma, Jiko and Mara.
If you have specific questions, feel free to PM me.
Kathy

What I am having trouble with is figuring out which of the activities are fun for adults. We will have no children at all with us. I definitely want to hear the evening folktales, but the rest???
Beth
OK, it would be good to have feedback from others, but here's what I think adults might enjoy:
Horticulture Activity-Arusha Rock @ 9am
Flamingo Feedings-Uzima Savanna @ 9:30am
Spirit of Africa Art Tour-Ogun's Firepit @ 10:30am
Animal Tracking-Arusha Rock @ 11am-2pm

Of course some are more fun than others given your interest in animal behavior, but they all appeal to me.

I think I've decided how to trick my kids into thinking we're leaving Disney, but really switching resort to AKL...Get up and check out of POP, seacretly have bags transferred, then tell them we are going to AKL for last breakfast. Question is...Does AKL have breakfast ? Then I can just check in at AKL while going to "potty" and then I'l tell them we have to go see the view from one of the rooms for our next trip...Sound good? Only difficulty would be that AKL might not have a room ready, so maybe I'll think of a backup plan. Where should i book adr for breakfast or lunch there? Thanks

You're good for breakfast at AKL at Boma. But neither Boma nor Jiko does lunch. Your only option there is Mara, the foodcourt.
But I like your idea - very tricksy!

Last year (July 06) I surprised my DW (her Birthday) and DS with our second stay at the AKL. That was to be the year we were going to save some money and stay at POFQ (our favorite moderate). We drove down to Orlando on a Friday and stayed at the Holiday Inn Niki Bird (priceline $25) the first night. The next morning DS and I were up at the crack of dawn and went over to the AKL and checked in while DW was getting her 'morning time'. DS was excited when he realized we were staying at the AKL again and with the fact that he would be in on the surprise for Mommy. We picked up DW and the luggage and drove over to the AKL. DW thought we were going the wrong way for POFQ and I assured her that this was a new way to POFQ. As we turned in the driveway for the AKL DW asked why I tortured her by taking her here and why aren't we headed over to POFQ so that we can park the van and head for the parks. She didn't catch on to the fact that we were staying at the AKL until I pulled out the carefully hidden AKL Car pass to place on the dash while waiting in line at the security gate and said "Happy Birthday". She cried.

Two things,,,,,
One-- that is an awesome surprise! My husband would probably never be able to pull something off like that.
He knows that we're going for 11 nights, but thinks it's all at POP. My kids think we're just staying for 6 nights. I love to surprise them and we have for multiple Disney trips!
Two--we live in Ocean Pines! Howdy neighbor!

Hi Neighbor,
Why don't you slip away at some point and check into the AKL and rejoin the family. Plan on having Dinner at the AKL when you know the room is ready and pull the same sort of scheme. Maybe your luggage will be in your room by then.

We took the Culinary Tour last November. We sat at the cooking place in Jiko and the chef made some dipping sauces for us to sample. She told us about Jiko and types of food they serve there. Then, we were escorted to Boma. One of the chefs there gave a brief description of the type of foods and gave us a sample of their soups and one of their desserts.
I would recommend taking this tour at the beginning of your trip.

Yes, it is zero-entry (great for the little ones!), and although you can't see it here, the zero-entry part is off to the right in this pic....also, don't be alarmed by the color of the water; it is supposed to resemble a watering hole, but is actually quite clear and clean in person!

Thanks for that quote! I'm looking forward to surprising the kids with the extra nights and AKL and my DH with AKL. it should be lots of fun!
My one small worry is that if a great package comes out for Jan/Feb, I've seen where it dosen't benefit split stays well. However I WILL NOT worry about that until it happens. My 9 yo DS is super excited to stay at POP and DH is excited about the 2 rooms there. So I'd hate to drop those ressies, but I would much rather be at AKL for 11 nights. We'll see!! We actually stayed at Coronado Springs for 10 nights several years ago and to be honest got bored with only one resort. (Not Disney World, just the same room for 10 nights, same food court etc) i think a split stay is such a cool way to see 2 resorts. I never would have gotten that idea on my own! These boards are just filled with ideas!!
AKL Concierge Questions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are staying at BCV for 8 nights in Dec, but to begin the trip we have one night booked at AKL concierge - our first stay at AKL and our first time doing concierge! I just received confirmation for that night and I'd like to e-mail the staff, introduce myself, and request that they have something "special" waiting in the room for our arrival that evening.
Does anyone have any ideas what I should request?
I'll have my partner and my two teens with me and we all love sweets, so something edible and festive would be nice.
What do you all recommend?
(And for such niceties do you all e-mail your credit card info to concierge or do you call and leave it?)

Oh, yes, that wonderful stew in the delicious bread - YUMMY!!!! :cloud9: Mousekeeping made a birthday cake out of two hand towels and a large towel and put stickers on it to make it look like the cake was "decorated"! (although I am not sure why she made a cake - it's wasn't our birthday!)

If you feel like you will be "bored" by staying at the same place for a long period of time, then, by all means, do the split stay! I recommend doing AKL LAST, because, when you check IN, you won't wanna check OUT! :teeth:

....do you plan on staying? Perhaps, you can do the dining plan for part of your stay and book concierge for the remainder of your vaca.....(the food offered at concierge, IMHO, doesn't really qualify as "real meals", perhaps with the exception of breakfast - filling enough, but you can't really "do" concierge food for more than a few days, without additional meals, at an additional expense....)

It's a Window Media Player clip.
You have that player on your PC if it's reasonable new (Windows 2000/ME or XP); in this case try to click the "play" button below the monitor.
If you have a Mac or an older PC, I am not sure if you can download a Window Media Player from the Microsoft site

I have never stayed in the conceirge but i think that unless you are spending you entire vacation in your room it would be a huge challenge to makes meals from the offereings.
Now...you could go there to eat...but that means you would have to make your way back there twice a day to eat...once might be ok with a break...but twice?
Also..the variety seems wonderful...but for a trip of several days you might get a little bored with the same offerings over and over.
Hopefully someone with a lot more experience will give a better idea of if you could make that work or not.

Wow, I'm really excited reading the thread and seeing pics. We may go back to WDW next year and are torn between WL & AKL....we've never stayed at either. I read threads on WL and I get excited and then read AKL and get excited. I think my biggest concern is staying at AKL and not paying for a Savannah view and then being disappointed. I know I can hope for some :wizard: but who knows if I will get lucky.

I suggested the split nights because I took the advice from others here on this board. We are staying the first 6 nights in 2 rooms at POP and then the next 5 nights at AKL inone room. I figure we'll get each end of the spectrum. Everything I've read makes it look like switching is really easy. My kids think we are only staying for the first 6 nights, and my husband thinks we are staying all 11 nights at POP. Can't wait to surprise them!!! :goodvibes

Just in case you all haven't been over to the Restaurants board to read the news...ADRs are now 180 days for onsite guests. So, anyone planning a trip through April can call now for ADRs! As I understand it, the intent is to (eventually) have park schedules up 6 months in advance. They're getting very few calls right now as most people are not yet aware of the change. If you call now you should have your choice of ADRs. CRT has big changes after February 1 though, if that's on your list.

YEAH YEAH YEAH I just got all of my ADR's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOWEVER, I was upset that the CM told me that on Feb. 1st, Crystal Palace will be closing for refurbishment........... I could NOT get ADR's for there on Feb. 3, so, I'm bummed about that. I'm happy though, I got everything else.
He also told me that as of today, they are now requiring a CC for Cindy's regardless of which meal it is, it used to be only for the breakfast. He also said that they will be adding a photo op /package for $29.99 with the characters upon entering the restaurant, and beginning on Feb. 1st, you can get a limited edition lithograph when you buy the photo package. SO, it'll be like at chef mickey's, where you get your picture, only at cindy's it will be with the "real" characters, instead of a photo of them.
So, you can make your ADR's now thru April!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** UPDATE ***
After this post, I found out that Crystal Palace will still be open for breakfast and lunch. I was able to get my lunch ADR's.

This is our 1st trip to WDW and I have some questions about staying at a deluxe. We usually stay at a condo or beach home and have to do it all by ourselves.
So - do you just pull up under a canopy and check in or do you park in the parking lot?
What do you do with your luggage? Do you leave it in the car or bring it in with you, or is there someone there to pick it up for you? If they do have this how much to tip?
Do they have turn down service? How do you (and how much) to you leave a tip for this?
Any other tips and or suggestion would help so much.
Thanks.

Yes, you drive under the canopy, where they will greet you and help you unload your 'stuff'....the next time you will see your luggage is in your room. Go diectly to the check-in counter, where you will be given your rooms keys and told if your room is ready. If not, you can IMMEDIATELY use the facilities and explore the resort! Turn-down service is usually for concierge guests; are you staying concierge??

You can request turn down service. Just call housekeeping.
I leave $2 for this service ($1/bed). I usually put the money in an envelope and leave it on one of the beds.

....pretty awesome, too! Since concierge check-in is not the same as checking in as a "regular" guest, you will need to check in a 2nd time. However, have no fear; if you are lucky, perhaps you won't have to switch rooms, if you request a "non-concierge" room ahead of time. You will have to get new room card keys, though, and you obviously will no longer have access to the concierge lounge. Either way, they [CM's] will take care of the transfer of luggage....

For anyone looking for some "romance" factor...my fiance and I were just at the AKL for a week in August and the first night we got engaged! He proposed at the poly on the beach but when we got back to our room at AKL he had the staff "decorate" our room complete w/ champagene and roses. It was the most magical trip and I am totally in love with the AKL (shhhdon't tell my dh2b lol!) so here are some pics of the room...
The floor at the door way had rose petals that led to the bed:\
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y165/marymerges/010_10.jpg
they had a spa basket and champagne waiting
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y165/marymerges/011_11.jpg
and the MOST beautiful roses w/ crystal hidden mickeys (the phots do not do justice)
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y165/marymerges/009_9.jpg
Now granted I am sure my fiance had to pay for most of this but he mentioned the rose petals on the floor and bed and the chocolate basket was all from AKL!

My family of 12 will be on a grand gathering Dec 6th - 11th at AKL. I have one question from my DW. She was wondering so she could save room packing are there beach towels available for AKL guest to use at the pool. Can't wait just a few weeks away now. Haven't received magic express tags yet.

There are towels available at the pool. They're not as large as regular beach towels, more the size of bath towels, but we prefer to use them over packing our own.
We received our DME tags about 18 days before our trip, so yours should be coming soon!

Great Pics! Does anyone know if there are any discounts allowed (AP, DDE or Vacation Club Members) towards any of AKL's special events or meals? We are really splurging this trip and immersing ourselves in AKL, so we are doing the Sunset Safari, the Lunch w/the Animal Trainers at Jiko's and the special wine pairing dinner that Jiko has the first Thursday of each month. Saving a little bit would be nice, but I understand that discounts don't apply to most special meals, etc. Thanks.

A while back in the posts someone asked if you can get turn down service at AKL. Im not clear on what the answer was.
I will be in a regular room at AKL this time around (unfortunately not concierge), This will be my first time at a Deluxe Disney Resort.
I realize earlier someone said that you just need to call housekeeping to arrange for the service but I wanted to know if you need to be concierge or can this be arranged for "regular guests" also. :confused3
Thanks

Hi: Is there any difference for animal viewing between kudu trail or zebra trail rooms. Are there any rooms near feeding areas on this savannah? Any special floor to ask for in a savannah view room? Trying to make the correct requests.
Thanks,
Deb.
kimmar067
11-27-2005, 07:59 PM
If you are standing in the lobby facing the glass wall that overlooks Arusha Rock, the section of rooms to the right is called Zebra Trail and the section of rooms to the left is Kudu Trail. They form a "U". depending upon whether your room is on the left or right of the trail, will determine your view. The Kudu RIGHT side and Zebra LEFT side is basically the same view of Arusha Rock and that savannah. If you get Kudu Trail LEFT, you would see Sunset savannah and Zebra Trail RIGHT you MAY see the pool...

Thanks Kimmar:
I read this on this site:
TIP: For an amazing view of the animals near their feeding area, choose rooms (on any floor, even number rooms only) from X572 through X584 (where X is the floor number). Also, odd numbered rooms X541 through X555 have a similar view. These rooms wrap around the feeding area, and provided us an AWESOME view of the giraffe and Tommies
Where are these rooms on the animal kingdom map? Maybe I am just not looking correctly?

The village is located at the entrance to Boma. It is just there for the holidays. Every year the chefs manage to make something better than the previous year. The beginning of Nov. 2004 we saw them already working on the project for that holiday season.

DW, DD8, & I really loved our AKL stay 11/25 - 12/3! We've stayed at CR, WL, FW Cabins, Beach Club, Carribbean Beach, and ASMo. AKL really was everything they said it would be, and more. DD8 said AKL was her favorite part of the entire vacation! Oh, where do I start? I guess at the very beginning!
We arrived late Friday afternoon. Bell Service quickly met us at our car, and took our bags. We booked a pool view room, and faxed a request for a non-smoking room, and bunk beds(which we received). Checkin was quick, and easy. CM Brittany was pleasant, and told us our assigned room was 2460. She showed us on the map it was on Zebra Trail. For our family this room was great! It was close to the pool, hot tubs, laundry, The Mara, as well as a GREAT viewing area of Arusha Savannah. Right down the hall from us was an open deck with binoculars where you could watch Giraffes, Zebras, Wildebeasts, etc. From our balcony you could see the pool through the thick foliage. Overall, nice. Much better than a noisy parking lot view. DW, and DD8 sleep in, while I'm an early riser - 6 a.m. It was great to walk around the Lodge and check out the different savannahs and animals.
The Pool area was amazing. The main pool is quite large. We really liked the zero entry. One day during family game time we ended up wading in the shallow end of the pool. We tried to stay dry since we weren't in swimsuits, but DD8 splashed me so I HAD to dunk her! DW often says she has two kids  ...but I digress. The slide seemed to be ok, but nothing very special. There are two spas that are just heavenly. Each morning I could relax in the warm bubbly water, read the newspaper (delivered each morning to your room), and drink coffee from my refillable mug. Ahhhhhh....AKL take me away! The pool area is lush with foliage. Wow! As you follow the pathways around the pool you are surrounded by palms, shrubs, etc. It is a very relaxing, and tropical feeling around the African watering hole!
Activities...There is a lot to do at AKL! First of all there are "children's activities" where they receive a "bead" for attending. The beads look like ladybugs, giraffes, pink flamingo balls, etc. After completing all 5 events (various times of the day) they receive a special totem bead. It makes a nice souvenier. Quite frankly, as an adult I enjoyed watching the kids during the activities i.e. Flamingo feeding, Track the Animals, Garden Safari, Music of the Savanna, Wildlife Games. Non-Bead activities included "Night vision goggles"-a must do!, T-shirt painting, African doll making, cookie decorating, arts & crafts, Zawadi Marketplace Primal Parade, Storytelling by the Fire Pit, and so much more! The African CM's were a part of most activities, and would offer a special card showing where there are from. They were wonderful!
Culinary Tour...Daily there is a culinary tour of Jiko & Boma. Since nobody else showed up, we received a private tour! At the Chef's table, Chef David explained to us all about Jiko. Best of all we got to sample various flatbreads, and dipping sauces. Oh my - delicious! Then we went to Boma. Another chef explained all about this place, and once again we sampled soups, sauces, (dd8) special PBJ, and of course...ZEBRA DOMES!!!! Ahhhhhh...A little piece of heaven! Even if you don't go to Boma, you can purchase Zebra Domes at The Mara. Quick impression of The Mara...ok for a quick bite, or for filling your refillable mug. Unfortunately, I found the CM's taking food orders quite disorganized. The food was slow in coming, and often cold. On more than one occasion I saw people refusing their food. As for Boma & Jiko...high marks!
The staff...I found all CM's to be friendly, and very helpful! As I would pass in the halls they all would say "Good Morning", or Hello. The African CM's were wonderful with the children, and never seemed tired of answering the same questions over, and over again! The housekeeping staff was GREAT!!!!! Alicia kept our room clean (no small task!), and provided towel animals everyday - elephants, shirts with ties, birds, etc. She also arranged DD8's stuffed animals each day. Although we weren't concierge, we requested "turndown service" each evening. We take afternoon breaks, mess up the room, and return to a park in the evening. When we returned to our room we had clean towels, new soap, trash emptied, and beds turned down...with a chocolate on the pillow! That chocolate is one of those little things I love! What can I say? They also left a card each evening with an African proverb. A nice touch to end the day.
Hmmm... What else can I say? Oh yeah, how about the ANIMALS! In northcentral Pennsylvania I'm use to seeing deer, rabbits, squirrels, pheasant, and an occasional bear...but this is AMAZING! Watching giraffes, zebras, kudu, ostriches, ankole cattle, gazelles, of course the flamingos, and more was quite the sight. It was so funny, when you would come to a window area in the hallways, everyone's head would turn to look outside, and people would bump into each other!
The Lobby... The Christmas decorations, and tree were beautiful. The lobby is quite the work of art. I'm not much into "African decor", but this lobby is really something to see.
In Conclusion...AKL was a great resort for our family. It was friendly, peaceful, and very entertaining. As we were leaving DD8 asked, "Can we stay here again?" Oh yeah, my little buddy. I'm sure we'll be back.

plutospup, thanks for your AKL report! It brings back many happy memories. :)
Even if you don't go to Boma, you can purchase Zebra Domes at The Mara.Wow, I had no idea. I'll have to remember this for our trip in January. We're not staying at the AKL (CBR this time around) and won't have time to eat at Boma, but we might find time to stop by for a quick look at the savannahs and a visit to Mara for some Zebra Domes. :teeth:

Just back from AKL CL here. :) Had a lovely time and will post pics and a report soon! My only complaint was that we had a hike and a half to get to the lounge from our room. Our room was on the 5th floor on the other side of the resort from the lounge and about 2/3 down that wing so it was like a 5 minute walk. DH timed it once and it actually took us longer to get to the lounge from our AKL room than it did to get to the monorail from our GF room earlier in the week. We were on Kudu trail with a view of the Arusha Savannah. We saw zebra, giraffe, wildebeast, ankole cattle, lots of different birds and some other animal I can't remember the name of just now (I did bring home an animal guide so I'll have to look it up!). Did the sunrise safari yesterday and had a wonderful time. Some great pics from that too. THe kids enjoyed their time there and were quite taken with the baby giraffe they have there that was just born Thanksgiving day. She was quite cute. :)
Had dinner at Jiko our last night and it was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. :)

She's at the resort, not the park, so she isn't on the safari. We saw her at one of the viewing areas off the pool. I did not have my camera with me at the time (we were swimming and I brought a big digital SLR complete with accessories so it wasn't with me) so unfortunately I don't have photos of her. :( Our friends who were with us there do so I have already said I want a copy of one. She's a DISer too so I am sure she will post. ;)

Sure, we did not use the lounge as much as we had planned to. Partly because it was really inconvenient from our room (we were almost all the way down Kudu trail so it was a hike to get there), partly because of our plans and partly because you had to be there right as the food was set out to get stuff! They did replenish it but not as much as when it is first put out. Breakfast was a madhouse in the lounge if you got there in the 7:30 - 8:30 window. The staff was having a hard time keeping up with clearing the plates (they were doing their best, it was a volume thing, not a lack of effort or attention thing, kwim?) Lots of people bringing heaps of food back to the rooms.
Morning offerings included oatmeal (plain and cinamon), various cereals, lots of different pastries, breads and fruit, coffee (both regular and the wonderful cappuccino machine :) ) hot teas etc. Juices and milks in the fridge. Snacks had cookies, fruit, nuts, gummy bears (a fave of my kids), goldfish crackers etc. for kids, sodas and juices in fridge, we were never there for tea offerings so I have no clue on that, appetizers were from Boma and Jiko. I saw chicken fingers more than once, ribs, cous cous etc. Deserts there were zebra domes for sure, those chocolate crunch things from Boma and a few others by the looks of the plates but that was all that was left by the time we got there, cordials included Baileys (which always went REALLY fast...saw a few people using the big cups meant for the iced tea/African Smooth/Lemonade/Water/Eggnog for HUGE servings of Baileys rather than the little cordial glasses) Kahlua, Grand Marnier and several others (have to go back and look at my notes :) ).

I am now beginning to regret our decision to go AKL CL. We will be there in three days. I can not blame the people using the lounge I have to blame Disney and if the AKL can not keep up with the demand, maybe they should consider reducing the amount of CL rooms available. But I am sure it is a money thing. Maybe creating another lounge on the fifth floor would solve two problems. the other problem is many people saying they have to travel too far to the lounge.
You pay an awful lot of money to stay CL and what this poster experienced should not be tolerated.

We still had an enjoyable time. I am sure we will be back eventually too. When the bellhop showed us where our room would be on the way to the lounge to check in I knew I would be asking if anything else was available. My room requests did not include a specific area, only NONSMOKING and near the lounge. Of the concierge rooms, only the pool view rooms are smoking so I didn't even include savannah view, just near the lounge. I asked at check in if something closer was available and the CM checking us in said "oh this is a good room, you'll like this one." I am not sure what she meant by that now. We saw hardly any animlas our first 2 days but I think that was a combination of weather and timing of when we were in the room. Our third day we saw a BUNCH of animals. I did ask our 2nd day if we could move but they couldn't tell me for sure where we would go and we would have to store luggage and wait till 3:00 to find out so we decided just to deal with the room we had.
I did speak with someone in the lounge who was on their last day and she said the guest behavior in the lounge had changed in the last couple of days. That in the early part of their stay it wasn't like that. so I guess it is hit or miss on that. I don't mind people using the food and if you are tired and not headed out again, having heavy appetizers maybe combined with a bowl of soup from Mara for a meal isn't so bad but when they put out ribs at 5:00 and there are a lot of people milling about the lounge, to have one family take 2/3 of them filling up 2 or 3 plates then dashing back to the room is poor manners on the guests part.
My DH said the same thing about reducing the # of CL rooms to the 15 or so that are on the 6th floor plus maybe one block of rooms on the 5th that are near the elevator up to the 6th floor. We were paying well below rack rate so I wasn't too upset but if we'd been paying $450/night I'd have been not happy. I know Disney can't control the guests in the lounge and their manners (to some extent, they can control some things) but they do have control over room blocking. If I were paying rack and was that far out I would NOT be happy.

...don't blame WDW for the actions of a few. You will have rude people ANYWHERE you visit. Sometimes people will take advantage, figuring, "Oh, I paid good money for this, might as well get the most I can for my money...." While it is true that you are paying extra for a particular service, one CAN go overboard, which just isn't right, and CERTAINLY isn't fair to the other guests and Disney itself. As for the room being REALLY far from the lounge, I suggest requesting a room, either on the 6th floor itself, or, a room closer to the lobby area. I'm sure that concierge will do its best to accomodate you. It would not make sense for WDW to add another lounge on the 5th floor too, because, not all guests on the 5th floor are concierge guests. If the CL guests take advantage of the "free stuff", imagine what would happen with the "non-paying" ones??!?!?!?
(EDIT: I did not read the previous poster's comments, so MY post may be redundant....sorry :confused3 !)

I am not really blaming Disney for the actions of others...You are so right; there are rude people everywhere and there is not a lot you can do about it. But I do blame Disney for not taking into consideration the fact that there are rude people, who take advantage of these situations, and the ones who suffer are decent, honest people like you and me.

SHOULD I REQUEST A ROOM LOCATION?
The last time we stayed concerige and were on the fifth floor on the Arusha Savana (I think) pretty close to the rock viewing area. It was a good location. We always had animals. Three Gensboks(sp?) (the big guys with the clicking knees) were always below our room. This time I would like to see more Giraffes and Zebras. Where should I request? We are not staying conceirge this time as were are on the dining plan. Also how do I make my request?

I wasn't sure if they accepted faxed requests or not. We had booked online with the Annual Pass website/BRP. Online we didn't request anything. A few days prior to checkin I sent AKL a fax requesting a non-smoking room with bunk beds. I also mentioned that this was a "Birthday Vacation". Upon checkin we were greeted by the CM with Happy Birthday wishes, and soon learned we were getting a bunk bed room. BTW on the second day of our vacation we received "autographed" photos of Mickey, and Minnie wishing my wife and I happy birthday (Nov. 29th & 30th). DD8 even received a photo from Cinderella, and Prince Charming wishing her a wonderful vacation!
