[QUOTE=AKLGoofy]

Bob, Just send an e-mail. (Yes, I know darn it another e-mail) to Don, Juanita or Sue. Ask to have the ears sent to your home. Be sure to give them a date you would like them to arrive. Give them your credit card number. (I WOULD ASK THEM TO CALL YOU FOR THIS) DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION IN AN E-MAIL.) Your credit card info may already be on file with AKL if so you just need to make a couple of decisions.

1. Do you want standard Mickey Mouse ears? (Black)
2. Do you want the special 50th anniversary ears that are gold on the ear portion and hat?
3. Do you want your names embroidered on the back of the hats?

In addition, you need to let your IPO planners know if this is to be boxed as a gift from AKL package or just a Disney package. Do you want it addressed to you or to your wife?

Excellent Idea! I was wondering how best to "spring" it on her and this would be perfect. Two pair of gold ears with our names on them in a Disney box (don't want to give the exact destination away until we actually pull up out front) and I can give it to her about a week beforehand so she'll have time to go buy the new wardrobe I know will be mandatory. If the concierge folks can do that, that will be great.

Another suggestion you and your wife would probably enjoy is
Dine with a
Disney Imagineer

I'd love to do this... saw it somewhere before. But, I"m not sure where it will fit in since it's in MGM. I wish I could figure out how to copy and paste my Word .doc into one of these posts but it always comes out all jumbeled and no one would be able to make sense of it. Then you "ultimate planners" could help an old man out and find a slot for me :teeth:

I pulled up a different price on the Romance Dinner at AKL. It is still quite reasonable. The food is from Jiko and Boma.

[COLOR=Blue]AKL CELEBRATIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
Our Food and Beverage Department is waiting to assist you with any
and all special occasions you wish to celebrate.
Savanna Romance Package for Two - served on your own private balcony $99.95
Your private Savanna feast includes:
Mixed Green Salad with mango vinaigrette
Choice of Any Two Dinner Entrees on the Private Dining menu
A Special Dessert made for sharing
Choice of a glass of house wine

Saw someone else make this suggestion and it would be nice but again, I just really don't know where I'd wedge it in.... dang I wish I could get my .doc file up here somehow so you could see and maybe make suggestions....

[COLOR=Blue]Please keep us updated as how things are going with your plans. It would be so nice if you get back to us when you return and let us know how everything went. We all love to hear about everyone’s vacation. Especially ones that are so well thought out as yours is. Planning a special anniversary trip and making it special as a surprise.

OH yes, you can rest assured that, while recuperating one evening after our return I'll be sure to return the favor of all your good folks advice by a "show and tell" session for you!

I am still reading and up to page 110 while also reading the last 10 pages, I'll get to the end eventually :goodvibes

I have a couple of questions and I knew the Jambo wild bunch would know the answers. I saw the neat coffee maker in the AKL CL, do they have a machine that makes hot chocolate too? I know :rolleyes1 we a/e going in August but dnephew loves the stuff!
While reading I noticed that our dates seem to coinside (8/17-8/20) and was wondering if anyone else might be on the Sunrise Safari on Sun, 8/20.

Also I am attempting to get a ticker (thanks for the design, Lisa :cheer2: )but how long will it take to get approved?

Thanks for any help!

Hot Chocolate, we used the boiling water and packets of hot chocolate which are available, but we didn't use the 'machine' :)

Bob,

The number for Disney Merchandise is (407) 363-6200.

Thanks for posting this for me!

I have a question for you all. Since there are going to be 3 adults in 1 room I am worried about room for the clothes in the drawers. I remember seeing an extra chest with drawers in SeaSprays pictures...can we request at check in for an extra chest??? I just know last year with DFi we had just enough drawer space for us 2 never mind if there was a third adult in the room. TIA!!! :thumbsup2 I tend to overpack :goodvibes

Hey Lisa............ WhOO Hoo, 9 more days and it's only 3 months!!!! LOL

I'm hanging in there............ how bout you!!! :thumbsup2 We are thinking about doing the private dining.......... maybe send DS to the neverland club, I could stand a little "romance"............. :rolleyes1

I'm barley hanging in there right now...I think the only thing keeping me sane is all of the little stuff I keep buying for the trip (mini fans, stuff to make spa bags for my mom and sister, etc). I'm going to Target to buy the waterproof camera they had in the ad tomorrow with the coupon from Sunday's coupon section...pathetic I know, but it gets me exctied for the trip!

I just told work about the two vacations and I think the thought I was  I would like to work with private dining and do something special for my mom and sister I'm just not sure what (dinner or just some type of special cake or treats). I'm going to suprise them with the segway tour at Epcot and I want to do something from the GF bakery for our afternoon tea as well.

Do you have the private dining number or are you thinking about coordinating it once you are down there?

If you made your own I'm not sure how long it takes. I only realized after I made my own ticker that I didn't have to make my own. I made one for my 2nd trip sometime last week and it has not been approved yet. In the meantime while you wait for yours to be approved you can use the other tickers they have.

Not sure what time you are arriving at AKL and I'm not sure of your immediate plans, but maybe you could have IPO talk to private dining and they could have some wine and some type of personal dessert/cake/etc. in your room for that evening and you and your wife could enjoy it on the balcony?

AKLGoofy Welcome to the thread :wave2: Wow sounds like you have a fabulous anniversary suprise planned! You should speak to someone about having special treats sent to your room for the wife or maybe have some type of cake done at the GF Bakery.

I have a couple things from the Disney florist for her evening "tub time".... and after Victoria & Albert's I'm not sure we'd have room for any cake. Are there other things you can think of that might be appropriate? I looked thorugh the whole Disney florist website and the two items with "bath stuff" were all I could find of any real interest. If there is another service or something it would be great to be able to have something different placed in the room each day while we're out... I just don't know of anything.

Heh, also, if anyone knows.... how can I get a couple pairs of "mouse ears" delivered to my home prior to our leaving? We may be older but we still like a bit of fun and I'd love to be able to present her with a set of ears to wear on the plane when I finally have to cough up where we're going so she can pack appropriately.

THanks for that suggestion.... actually, the wine in the room is probably a good thing. We have reservations at Ragland Road for 6 PM dinner (we arrive at 2:30 or so)... since Susan's Irish and we both enjoy that "pub" atmosphere I thought it would be a great way to relax after the long trip.

I'm still trying to figure out a way to get my self-made "schedule" into a post here. It's in a table in MS Word and I cannot for the life of me get it to copy and paste into a post without getting all messed up. I've tried shuffling it over to Excel first, exporting it as HTML, the whole nine yards.. can't seem to get it.. if anyone has a clue how I could get it into a post without just trying to type it all out (it took me several hours to get it all in to begin with) I'd really appreciate it...

I just found a place for the Dine with an Imagineer lunch I think! Heh, the concierge folks are going to get REAL tired of hearing from me, I can see that coming. Everyone cross your fingers that it's not already full for that day... it's so close to the time I don't see how I could possibly get that lucky, but we'll see!

...if you don't mind me asking, how much is that segway tour?? (we ARE talking about those 2-wheeled vehicles that never lose their balance, right??) A special 2-hour Extreme Makeovers - Home Edition was filmed here about 2 weeks ago (My DH volunteered his time :sunny: ) and Michael Maloney was riding one of those up and down the street; my DH thought that they were sooo cool. It would be a real treat to rent one for him to try...

luvfigment,

The only time we had the extra chest of drawers in our room at the AKL was when we stayed in an end room. I know what you mean about overpacking. There is never enough drawer space for all our clothes.

At check-in I would ask about an end room or request a chest of drawers.

Let me know what happens.

Kimmar they have 2 segway experiences. I am going to book the 2 hour experience as that is the one most everyone has reccomended. I know my sister and I will really enjoy it so I'm hoping my mom will like it as well. Here are the details on them from All Ears:

Simply Segway
Epcot
A one-hour beginner class on using the Segway Human Transporter, called Simply Segway, began May 1. The class includes some training and mostly indoor riding -- there may be some limited riding time. The Simply Segway experience is offered daily Wednesday - Monday (not available on Tuesdays) at various times and can accommodate up to 10 participants. The experience is $30 per person -- discounts are available for Disney Vacation Club members, as well as Disney Visa cardholders and Annual Passholders. You must be at least 16 years old and weigh 100 lbs. to participate. Maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns. Arrive at Epcot Guest Relations at least 15 minutes before tour start time (theme park admission is NOT included in tour price). For more information and reservations call 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) or inquire at Epcot Guest Relations.

Around the World at Epcot on a Segway

On February 14, 2004, Epcot introduced Around the World at Epcot on a Segway, those futuristic-looking upright transportation devices on which you sometimes see Cast Members zipping around Epcot.

The tour, which lasts two hours, has been so popular that it now runs THREE TIMES daily -- at 8:30, 9 and 9:30 a.m. Check in 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time at the Guest Relations lobby inside the turnstiles.

NOTE: Guests are able to arrive before the 9 a.m. opening in Future World by identifying themselves as being on the Around the World at Epcot Segway tour. There is a guest list at the turnstiles. Use the same far right queue the Princess Storybook breakfast (Norway) guests use.

The first hour of the tour teaches safety rules and allows you to practice riding the Segway, while the second hour is a tour around World Showcase before it officially opens to visitors.

Cost for the tour is $80 (park admission is NOT included).

Some restrictions apply: Minimum age is 16 (guardian must sign a waiver for ages 16 and 17), maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns.

A 15 percent discount will be available for AAA and Disney Vacation Club members, as well as Annual Passholders, Disney VISA cardholders, and Disney Cast Members. A photo ID will be required at the time of the tour.

:moped: We leave tomorrow for our first trip evah! :moped: (well, I went in 1973, but I was 3 years old, so I'm not counting it).

I'm so excited, but also getting anxious...have read bad reviews about half of the ADR we have (Teppanyaki, Coral Reef, Breakfastasaurus)...also stressing b/c we didn't make any ADR's for one day, thinking we'd just to CS, but now wishing we had made something...any chance there will be ANY decent TS available for walk-up at all, now that DDP seems to have made ADRs mandatory? I feel bad for the folks who don't know better.

Also stressing about the crowds. I've heard that it's been almost unbearable in the last week or so...this weekend should be unbelievable. I do have a little problem w/crowd anxiety, so I need to get psyched up for it.

Someone please tell me to chill out and stop expecting the worst (I sometimes find myself imagining the worst case scenarios and I do NOT want any self-fulfilling prophecies here!!!).

Oh well...if all else fails, I'll just sit at AKL, sipping whatever drinks look cool and yummy and snacking on zebra domes....

Thanks for the pointer. We have ressies for dinner @ Boma one night, so that's one thing...I figure we'll try to get in there for breakfast at least once as well. I know I have no hope of Chef Mickey's (tried)...are there any of the less popular resort restaurants that anyone would suggest I try? You know...good food, not well publicized?

Andiloo, Please quite stressing and relax. You have planned a vacation to the happiest place on earth. I would suggest you plan on getting up very early on your park days and being at the gate when they open. That way you will have at least a couple of hours before it starts to get crowded. :) As far as worry about not have ADR for one night. The very first time DH and myself went to WDW was in 2004. We spent the first night at POP because we didn't want to spend big $ at a deluxe becasue our flight didn't get us in until 5:00 PM. By the time we got our bags, car and shopping stop it was 7:30 PM to check-in. We had the BEST dinner right at POP. In fact it is one of my best memories. I had the Mom's dinner special. WOW it was good. In fact we have been talking about going there for a lunch or dinner on our upcoming Christmas trip. Your at Disney! I hope you have a wonderful trip. oh, yes, please bring back some Zebra Dome for us!!!

I just found a place for the Dine with an Imagineer lunch I think! Heh, the concierge folks are going to get REAL tired of hearing from me, I can see that coming. ...I recommend making ressies at WCC at WL - lots of fun and pretty good food (AND, lots of it!) Another favorite, although not a TS restaurant (I think!), is the Pepper Market at CSR. It definitely has something for EVERYONE! The Concourse Steakhouse is quite good, too, (at CR) for steaks and salads...

Weeellll... just got off the phone with Don and man, you guys aren't kidding, that guy is GREAT! He helped me finetune a few things and came up with a great idea for the presentation of my wife's engagement ring "upgrade" I'm in the process of having mounted. He's going to have it presented in a white chocolate "slipper" at the end of dinner at V & A's. Should be quite the surprise.

Sadly, he had to tell me that the only slot I had for lunch was a day that they don't offer the Imagineer thingy, so we'll have to save that for a later trip I guess. All in all, though, things are shaping up nicely. Thank you everyone for your kind suggestions.

What type of camera do you have? I am in the process of researching a new digital camera for my DH and myself. You are a very good photographer, however your camera must also be far more advanced then the one we currently have.

Looking forward to your trip report. :rolleyes1

I finally finished reading this thread, there is so much great info here!

Great pics, catsrule! Were these taken from your balcony? Where was your room? Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Andiloo, you will have a great trip just relax and try to go with the flow. If the park you are at seems very crowded go to another park or back to AKL and go in the pool then hit the parks again after dinner. The Kona Cafe at the Poly has great food and is usually not very crowded, they also have an excellent breakfast!

Lisa, the Segway tour sounds great, have fun!

Bob, sounds like your anniversary trip is going to be fabulous!

Kimmar, how was it having Home Edition in your town? Kudos to your husband for volunteering!

.....actually, it was a few towns over, in Bergenfield. It is going to be a 2-hour special sometime in July - a real tear-jerker (like the other episodes AREN'T??!?)...the family has a disease that they eventually lose their eyesight. The father and one of the kids is already blind, and another is deaf...Marley Matlin was the 'guest' host because Ty was on vacation (the NERVE of him!!! :teeth: ) Of course, Paige was 'decked-out' in her usual PINK...my DH is in the construction business and he was working on a house right around the corner from the house that was built for the show, so he decided to go on over and lend a hand....wait till you see it, the house looks really awesome and HUGE!

Angel16, it is a Canon camera, it just came out in March, we just bought it in April. I think it is an A700 series. DH took all the pics, I just told him what to take pics of.

lawalz23, the pics were taken all around the resort, so many pics I don't remember which were taken where. :teeth:

We did the one hour Segway. It was a blast and so much fun. We are gonna do the 2 hour one in Sept., we had so much fun on the hour one. We went outside and around all the gardens. I highly recommend it.

Do Not Worry!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to Disney, and staying at the AKL, what could be better? A vacation is what you make it. If the crowds start to bother you, enjoy the beautiful lodge, watch the animals on the Savannah, and chat with the guides. I cannot imagine a more serene place to just relax and regroup than AKL. I think that the biggest mistake that we made was not to spend enough time there, and we actually scheduled quite a bit, but the resort is so welcoming and restful. If you are hungry, and there are no ressies to be found, we loved Mara. The food is good, and there is plenty to choose from. Have some squash soup for me, please.

Have a wonderful time, and takes lots of pictures!

Weeellll... just got off the phone with Don and man, you guys aren't kidding, that guy is GREAT!

Bob

I think that he is the best! The slipper idea is so romantic....

Take some time to visit all of the staff in the lounge. They are friendly, and it was nice putting a face to all of the people that work "behind the scenes". They really get into all of the planning, and will continue to "make it happen" throughout your trip.

I was going to ask the same question. Looking at your beautiful Pics and comparing them to ours means we need a better camera. I think my DD said she was looking at a canon.

Some of us are going to sign up for the Segway tour when we go in January. I hope to read your reviews upon your return.

Your pics are very nice!!!! We just got the Canon EOS 20DSLR and DH has been practicing with the lenses and flash.......... :confused3 to make sure he's all set when we head back!!! We also have the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, and I'd recommend that to anyone, it takes amazing pictures with the correct lense. I'm like you though.......... First Welcome Taekwondo! I just wanted to address your ECV use at AKL, and maybe set your mind at ease. My DH used one on our last visit due to leg problems. The AKL is very user friendly for ECV's. You will be able to place your ECV in the room over next to the TV. Just make sure you set up the area first for the charger and a plug near by. I would request a room on the main savannah not too far from the lobby.

The only problem we ran into at AKL is the elevators are very quick to shut. It was good that I was there as I could hold the door while DH pulled into the elevator. Everyone was very nice and we never got any strange looks. My DH can walk, just not for long distances.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation. :wave2:

Thank You..... :)

What a great thread! I've gotten lots of great info so far, but now have a question I haven't seen answered.

We've just changed our October VWL reservations to include two nights at AKL in a concierge room. We'll be there for our 15th anniversary and have booked the Sunrise Safari for that morning! :sunny:

We've already been in contact with Don from the IPO -- my dh spoke to him on the phone and mentioned we were hoping for a king room. My question is, does anyone know if there are pool-view king rooms (would also have to be non-smoking)? We've stayed in savanna view rooms twice, and I thought the pool view might be a nice change. Oh, and if there are pool view king rooms, would it be annoying to them if we requested one? I don't usually request anything but non-smoking for medical reasons, but I really want this stay to be as lovely as possible. :)

TIA for any help!!

Quick question for those in the know. Does the Sunrise Safari alway fill up way in advance? I'm considering changing my reservation to concierge, but we are getting pretty close, and my main reason for the upgrade would be to do the Safari. Thanks!!!

We booked pool, and I was very happy with it. We were almost directly above Mara, but we didn't notice any particular smells.

I have plenty more pictures- of the room itself, the lobby, Boma- they just haven't been added to photobucket yet (My fiance said he would add them last night, but I guess he never got around to it!). I will add more tomorrow!

For those who have done this, I have a couple of questions.
How far out can you book the sunrise safari? This is really the only reason we are staying in conceige. Can you stay just the night before and then change rooms the next day? Also if you change rooms when does your lounge access stop? As soon as you check out at 11 am or is it till midnight like the meal plan and other items are? Would it be possible to stay in the same room? We would like a savanna view, with a king size bed.

Thank you for all your help.

We booked Pool View, and loved it! The pool is actually quite pretty. Our room was 2430, so when entering the lodge all we had to do was walk to the back of the lobby, go down the stairs heading torward the savannah, and go up the hallway on the right! We weren't very far down the hallway. It was great coming out in the morning too, because we would stop for a few minutes every morning on our way out and look at all the animals on the savannah before heading to the parks.

We actually had a rental since we drove to the Punta Gorda area to visit my parents and plan some of our upcoming wedding before going to WDW, so I can't comment on the buses! Sorry!

Hopefully you can reach them!!! Did you fill out the form for the services you want and to get an estimate? Perhaps you should do that also? (Click the Get Information button on the home page, then click on the Orlando-Central Fl. button, that will take you to the form.) Apparently, you fill that out and they get back to you with an estimate. I'd advise to still try calling also.

Eagle0112,

I'll try to answer some of your questions about AKL concierge. I read recently that you can book the Sunrise Safari at 180 days. You must be a concierge guest the night before the safari. We were allowed to use the lounge the day we checked out until we left for the airport, which was early evening. I'm not sure if you are allowed to use the lounge until midnight. If you are transferring to a deluxe savannah room, it is possible to stay in the same room. Just request this at check-in. The deluxe savannah rooms on the fifth floor are used as concierge rooms.

I hope this helps.

AKLGoofy, I have just a couple of comments. First, what an amazing itinerary, you are going to have a great time. Secondly, I am very concerned that you would post your reservation #'s. The vast majority of us are great people that would never abuse that info. but it would take only one person to cause you great distress during your vacation and I would suggest that you remove this important information. Finally, if I understand what you have posted correctly, you have a 6:30 reservation at V&A and a towncar picking you up at 8:00 to take you to your carriage ride. One and a half hours for V&A is half the time you should allow.

AKLGoofy
05-27-2006, 02:37 PM
THank you kindly for that information. It hadn't dawned on me that the reservation numbers out there could potentially cause a problem, but of course, I suppose folks could cancel things...

Also, you are confusing a couple of things. We have a "specialty cruise" (i.e. private boat for firewoks viewing) after Victoria and Alberts. The carriage ride is the last night (the 7th).

Yes, it will be a bit tight, but luckily all we have to do is exit the restaurant and walk down to the dock (I've been told that the boat people are patient and won't automatically bail if we're not there on the stroke of 8:30). I know what you mean, though. When the wife and I go to the trouble of having a nice dining experience, we like to take our time and it's usually more than 2 hours. Still, "Autumn" and "Don" both seemed to think it would be workable.

I'm not quite sure what to do about the Res. #'s now, though as folks have already quoted the message. If I change the image files will that change everything you think?

Bob

Can somebody tell me where this room might be located? We are on concerge level. there are 5 in the group and they tell me we have a queen, a set of bunks and a day bed. I have searched for a layout of such a room and can't find anything here or on all ears net. The boys were curious if this would be a 5th floor or a 6th floor room. Someone posted somewhere that to get to the 6th floor you had to have a special key - true or false? the boys are hoping for a 6th floor room. We are traveling with friends who are not on conceirge level and I think my son wants to tease his girlfriend about it.

We stayed concierge and had a 5th floor room...it was a deluxe savannah view room. Actually, the views of the animals are BETTER from the 5th floor, since the 6th floor roof is like an 'overhang', where some of your views might be a bit blocked. Yes, only concierge guests have access to the sixth floor. They have a card key that is a different color than the rest of the AKL guests. If you are a concierge guest, but staying on the FIFTH floor, you will still get one of these types of keys. You use it in the elevator to gain access to the 6th floor lounge. There is also a private staircase that leads to the lounge, but, again, you must put your key into the slot to gain access.

I confess that I have not read all 156 pages of your enjoyable thread -- I do apologize if this question has already been asked and answered. We are considering a stay at AKL Nov 30 -Dec 11. We ahve only stayed at values before. Can you compare the bus transportation of AKL to the values?

Also, just how long of a walk is it to the buses if our room is one of the last bldgs?

I do appreciate your help!

Unlike the values, where there are SEPARATE buildings, the AKL is one building. Having said that, you may be stuck in on of the rooms wa-a-a-a-y at the end of the "arms" of the AKL. However, the bus stop is located directly to your left at the end of the walkway as you exit the lobby....a LOT closer than the mods (and I've stayed in them ALL!!)

Can someone tell me about the refillable mugs? Are they the large ones or do they have the smaller ones that fit in the cup holders of cars? Any pictures? I know that staying CL we really don't have use for them but I like to collect them and already have ones from the Poly, CR, POFQ and 2 DVC ones. Thanks for any info!

Re: AKL transportation...It really is very good! There is only one bus stop at AKL, unlike multiple stops at the Mods. Also, AKL transportation is not shared with other resorts, so it's always "Non-stop" from AKL to any park. Sit back, relax, and you'll be there before you know it!

Thank you for the info Kathy. I'm transfering to a regular savannah view room so I will have to move. Do you recommend I check out before the safari and leave the luggage with them to transfer to the new room?
I was asking about the lounge because I am not sure of our arrival time the day before and have been reading about some of the food and drink offerings in the lounge. I really would like to try the Chai tea in the afternoon so that should work.
Thank you again

Mary, I would recommend checking out before the safari. After the safari and breakfast, you might not get back to the AKL by 11 a.m. You can enjoy the day at the AK. When you return to the Lodge, your new room should be ready. Of course, they might surprise you with an upgrade and let you keep the same room. I hope this is the case.

Mary,
My first concierge visit to AKL was a mix of reservations due to the fact I couldn't get the whole thing on the concierge level. Because I didn't want to move three times, I specifically asked to be put in a regular savannah room and keep my room for the entire reservation, just gaining concierge priviledges on those days where I had them reserved. I had one of my favorite rooms on that trip and with just two of us in the room we didn't miss the extra floor space. We did have to check in and check out between all our reservations *make sure to have ALL room keys with you for this*, but we never had to move. It might be an option for you!

You're going to love the sunrise safari! We've done it twice and I'd like to plan for another safari!

Have a wild time!
Debbie

Kimmar and plutospup, thanks for the info on the mugs. I think I will get the skinny one and let the kids choose.

Mary, we split our stay between AKL CL and OKW because of the safari also. My sister's kids really wanted to go and since this is a special treat, we are doing what they want. We are checking out early also so we can enjoy the day in the parks before transferring to OKW.

A question, do we call bell services in the early am to transfer our luggage or do we make arrangements the night before?

When we were visiting AKL, we too had to change our room from concierge to "non"concierge. And, it was on the day of the SS. We had to be at the concierge lounge between 6:30 and 7AM - the CM took our PH passes to 'get rid of' one day (you can't be a part of the SS without a valid park pass). At 7AM we were whisked downstairs to the 'overlook alcove', located at the far left of the lobby. We were put into 2 groups - each group getting its own guide, and then we went outside to get one of the 2 WDW buses, which took us directly to AK (via the 'back way' - BTW, this is very cool! :thumbsup2 ). After the African buffet breakfast at Tusker House (which was AWESOME!) we met up with friends of ours. It was at this point I returned alone to AKL to take care of the 'moving arrangements', which didn't take more than 40 minutes. I then caught up with my family and friends at Dinorama.....

Another option you may want to consider is checking out the night before - they can assign you your new room. After that is finished, you can go to your old room, call bell services to have your belongings picked up and transferred to the new room....then when you return from whatever park you have visited for the day, go to the front desk and your keys will be ready...

Ok, I have a big favor...I prostrate myself at thefeet of keepers of the AKL wisdom...(I've been off the boards for about week now due to my end of school year mommy volunteer duties (you know when you volunteer for those things early in the year because you want to be helpful and then wind up with 3 events in 3 days :guilty: :badpc:)

Now I promise I have read this entire thread like the good AKL groupie that I am, including the last several pages but some of the info isn't sinking in :sad2: .

I would love to go on the Sunrise Safari but we are currently booked into a standard poolview room. I know you have to be in a concierge room to take advantage of the safari. Is there a consensus on whether moving to a concierge room for a couple of days would be worth it? (The money, yes but also the moving logistics? How amazing is the safari? Is the main difference in concierge the extra food?) If we did this-does it matter what end we do it, end or beginning of trip-I mean will we be crying when we move?)

Ok, once again I am truly sorry if these questions have been answered but please take pity on a poor, memory and sleep deficient me who's brain isn't functioning normally :confused3

Patricia

Could someone please send over a plate of zebra domes and maybe some Kenyan coffee?

kimmar067
05-28-2006, 02:27 PM
Let me clarify that - call bell services the evening BEFORE to advise them that you will be moving to another room on the NEXT day (unless, of course, when you 'check out' the night before, they advise your that you will be STAYING in the same room, and wouldn't THAT be nice..... :woohoo: )

LAWalz23

I may head back to AKL then check us in at OKW and catch up with the rest as I am not sure we will all be up and functioning that early. My sister wants to go to MK after SS breakfast as we have always found it to be fairly uncrowded on a Sun morn no matter what time of year. However niece and nephew have asked for more time in AK (mine and sis's least fav park) and niece told me last night that she would like to spend more time in the pool and resort because we have been to the parks before, leave to an 8 year old to put things in perspective!

A Happy and Safe Memeorial Day to all especially those whose loved one died fighting for our freedom and those currently in the armed forces or have been and their families!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We had gorgeous (well hot and humid) weather this weekend and the rains are just about on the doorstep here. So here I am catching up.

AKL Goofy Your plans look amazing! I see you have Magical Express listed as your return way to the airport...not sure if you are taking it in or not, but you seem to be going all out on everything else so why not book a towncar or limo for your airport transfers? The only other thing I can think of is have you looked at joining Tour Guide Mike (http://www.tourguidemike.com/index.asp?promoCode=AG9MF-AQ#TGM-home) (sponsor here on the dis) at all? Your days are really set in stone, but I have used him in the past for park touring advice and it works really well. It does require some work on your part (ie he doesn't spit out an itinerary for you...you make your own), but if you had the time it might be worthwhile with the short amount of time you are there to maxamize touring capability. He also offers a VIP service through Michael's VIP (http://www.michaelsvips.com/) which is a lot more money and they do all of the planning for you and take you around the parks.
DiznEeyore Gald you were able to contact IPO and find out what you needed.
wendypooh Did you ever talk to Private Dining? Are you thinking about doing a dinner? I can't decide what to do if I want to do a dinner or sometype of dessert(s) for us to enjoy. BTW did you know we are in Single digits(lol only 96 more day for me!)?

Hello,

We are going to stay at AKL Dec. 29, 30, 31st, Savannah View. I would like to surprise the family with a Sunrise Safari on the 31st so we need to be concierge. My TA suggested doing one night in Concierge but when she checked into it, they said we would need to check out and check back in. (which I have read about here and think is a bit of a hassle)

My question is... would it be worth it for us to stay Concierge (800.00 difference) for the 3 nights so that we could do the Sunrise Safari? Does AKL do anything special on New Years Eve that if staying in Concierge we would benefit from?

Is there anything special happening at the hotel, even if you are not concierge?

How is the bus transportation for AKL? I really haven't read anything about it? I have no doubt there is something in this thread, though.
But, are there a lot of stops? Does anyone have any very general time estimations of how often they run? How long it takes to get to MK? Epcot? TTC? OR can you point me in the direction to find this information?
TIA

Bus transport is great at AKL. The buses run every 15-20 minutes, which is also about the travel time to and from MK, Epcot, and Disney/MGM.

The buses are express to MK, Epcot and AK, and make only one stop at one of the water parks on the way to Disney/MGM.

You'll love it! :thumbsup2

AKL has awesome bus service! The best of any resort I have stayed at. I would say the trips are as follows:

Mk~20 minutes
Epcot~15 minutes
MGM Studios/BB ~AK-BB 8 min BB-MGM 6min
AK~5 minutes
DTD/TL~ 15 minutes

Sometimes later at night or late in the day I have been on AKL busses where they also pick up people that need to get back to AK for thier cars as well which maybe adds about 5 minutes on to any trip. It has only happend a handful of times to me though.

Topic for the day is bus service I see. :sunny: On that topic I have a question. My DH and myself are going during the holidays this year. We are going after Thanksgiving and leaving before the middle of December.

Do we need to get a car rental? What should be expected as far as bus service and crowds during this time? Does anyone have information from last year? My DH will be using a ECV. I may also be using one as having leg surgery later this year.

What is everyones thoughts?

Is there anything special happening at the hotel, even if you are not concierge?

Just wondering... has ANYONE ever been at AKL at NYE? Is there anything special? :surfweb:

LAWalz23, we used ME. I can't remember exactly how long it took to get from AKL from the airport. I would say maybe 1.5 or so hours. We stopped at All-Stars before going to AKL, and I mean we stopped at every all-stars, Sports, Music and Movies.

When leaving, we checked our luggage in at the ME luggage check-in at AKL the morning we were leaving. They give you a pick-up time they put on your door the day before you leave. We went straight to the airport from AKL, the bus was full when we left so we didn't stop at any other resorts for pick-up. I think we checked it in about 4 hours before our flight time. You can check it in I think it was 3 - 12 hours before your flight.

 Hiya!

We are staying at AKL for DH's 35th bday in September. We are really excited...AKL is one resort we have wanted to try since our first trip. AND we get to try Boma, too. :woohoo:

Anyway, I want to do something for DH's bday. I am sending something from WDW florist to our room. I also know No balloons allowed. :teeth:

What I am wondering is.....does AKL in room dining do the tux strawberries or anything along those lines??? I would like to get something like that for him as well. I can't do a cake at Boma or our other dinners....DH would be mortified if they sang or made a huge deal...he has issues with people looking at him and it would not be a "nice" surprise. I cannot even get him to do the vet's flag ceremony at MK, and that is something that I know he would love to do, but he cannot get over the fact that he will be "watched." Men!!

Anyway, if anyone knows if the AKL dining does any special desserts/cakes/ etc, please LMK. Or if you know how I can find out, I would appreciate it. :) I am thinking about doing the dinner on the balcony for 2 and would love to get something to go along with it.

Personally, I think a double order of zebra domes sounds good!! :thumbsup2

Hi all -

Just booked us at AKL for 9/2 through 9/6 in a pool view room on the free dining offer. I have spent literally hours reading through many of the posts here and have gotten a ton of really great info - many thanks !

I did have a few questions I'm hoping you can advise me on:

I just requested non-smoking and a room with bunks ... should I add anything to that ?

Does the pool area have lots of shade ? I see some umbrellas in the photos, but not too many....do the trees provide the area with additional shade ?
Where would be a good spot to head to in the AM if we want shade ( I am pastey white and love my shade!)

Does the pool bar serve any food ?

Thanks in advance for your help ;)

Has anyone ever had one eye just pour out tears??? My left eye is just running like a faucet........ I'm not crying, but I have tears just running out???? It's almost like only one side is "sick"........ does that make sense??? I feel bad all over, but like only the left side feels congested, runny, etc....????? it's really odd.

Doing the Happy Dance. :dance3: Ok had to choose that smilie did anyone else notice that there are new ones?

Oh I read in my Allearsnet newsletter that word has it that they are going to start charging extra for bunk bed rooms at AKL and WL! Like $20-25 a night extra...don't know if anyone mentioned that yet but thought I'd share.

Ok y'all I am off to do some more laundry :laundy: and packing! Have a good night.

Steph:

When we had dinner at Boma to celebrate my son's graduation, they gave hima board with truffles and cookies with "congratulations" spelled out in chocolate, along with a card. They did not sing or make a loud fuss. You could probably mention that you are doing a quiet celebration when you check in. I think I had mentioned it when I tried to increase our table size (no luck on that one).

Wendy-sooo sorry to here about your family's illness and I'm sending you healthy wishes...being sick is never fun and when the whole family gets sick well that's just :sad2: !

This may seem like a picky question but DD read on Allearsnet (?) that you can contribute any Disney toiletries to an organization that works with ill children-it might even be Make a Wish Foundation but I'd have to recheck, but I believe they're looking for the items with the traditional Charancters on them. Does anyone remember how the bathrooms are appointed (in terms of soaps/ shampoos, etc.) at AKL?
(If she wants to give whatever she finds there I'll support her and try to find some animal themed toiletry items to take with us-seems like a fun task... :cool1:

Gosh, I was already planning on bringing coffee (for the coffee maker in room-something nice and strong :surfweb: and now I may be bringing my own toiletries and can feel my suitcase increasing by the minute...

PPP:
I know the organization is not MAW, but it is a pediatric cancer organization. I believe they will take anything with a Disney theme, and also little party favors (no balloons, stuffed animals, or food). I think that they will stock you with enough in the room that you will still have some to take home without having to bring your own. I believe they gave you two bottles of shampoo and I automatically put one away; same thing with the soap. We stayed in two rooms for four nights and I came back with a whole bunch to send. Two years ago we stayed in a 2BR villa and I was able to send a full box of the toiletries and another with old party favors!

tggrbaby,

do you know if the info is posted on the AllEars site? Or is it on another site? I'd like to file it away. (Also you mentioned something about party favors?-we live fairly close to a party store that runs great sales on closeouts-when the new themes are about to come in-do they take party stuff as well?

Thanks,

Patricia

I have BIG news. We have The Chef's Table at Victoria and Alberts during our holiday trip! :dancer: party: I have tried for three years to get that reservation. I am so jazzed.

I am still working on our ADR for the trip, but have relaxed a bit after talking to Don at AKL today. We are really waiting for all the information to come out on CLP at Epcot. Don said they probably won't have that info until August. So we will just have to wait and see. We hope to get tickets for a night with a good narator and have dinner at Le Cellier' after the proformance.

Hi HarborWhaler and welcome to the Jambo AKL thread. I don't think you will find parking a problem at ALK. The parking lot is just down a little from the lobby. It is very easy to park and get to the front of the resort. They also have valet available at a daily cost. But, I doubt you would feel it was necessary. I would say the parking at WL and AKL are comparable.

There are many things available at AKL from in-room dinning. AKL has a wonderful baker. Are you staying concierge? If you are you can talk with the IPO about setting up something. AKL does have chocolate dipped strawberry's and much more. They also have some wonderful cakes you can order. I have heard very good things about their romantic dinner on the balcony. I am sure you can arrange a special desert and/or wine. It does not matter if you are staying concierge or not, it will be wonderful .

Hi DVCindy,

I have never requested or stayed on the pool side. I love the savannah and the animals so we always ask for 5th floor, main savannah, zebra trail, king bed, non-smoking. So I can not help you on your pool view question.

However, the pool seems to have quite a bit of shade to me. There are trees and during certain times of the day shade from the building. The pool bar does serve snacks and drinks. What I really like is the pool is right by The Mara, you can get everything from sandwiches to a full meal there. It is good food at a good price plus it is convient. I hope you have a wonderful time. :)

Wendy, I am sorry to hear you and your family has been so ill. Goodness, I hope you are feeling better. Has your eye gotten any better? Take care and get some rest. If mom does not get healthy neither does anyone else.

Jumping in WAY late - first, I've never stayed at WL, so I can't compare - Four years ago, My wife and I went down witha out son and daughter - Son was 18 months, daughter 4 1/2 - just about the ONLY parts of the trip she really talks about are the animals - they both got such a kick waking up and seeing them.

We are supposed to go down last week if August, but my wife is currently unemployed, and finances MIGHT force a cancelation - and we are supposed to stay on the Concierge level too....

Hey, I just noticed that I made Mouseketeer. When did that happen? :)

I just wanted to make a comment on the animal pictures I have posted, for the benefit of those who have never been to AKL.

I made my first trip there last month and was a little worried because I could not afford a savanna view. I booked standard and hoped for an upgrade. I did get an upgrade, but only to a pool view (I'm not complaining, it was much better than looking at the parking lot). I just want to let you know that you can see plenty of animals and really enjoy the lodge even if you do not have a savanna view. If you can afford savanna, then go for it; if you cannot, it is still worth a trip to this resort even if you have to stay standard view. I hope to stay in a savanna view one day (in fact hoping for an AP rate for my anniversary in Sept), and I am sure there is nothing like being able to stand on your own balcony and watch the animals anytime of day or night, but I will return even if all I can afford is standard. All of my pictures of the animals were taken from public viewing areas. Just wanted all to know.

Here's a tip. If you want to see and photograph the animals, don't just go to the public viewing areas. Walk down to the end of each of the hallways and go out the exit door to the outside staircase. This is where the majority of my pictures were taken. It was great because I could go up and down the staircase to get the best view. In fact, I think the only way to see the Red River Hogs is out one of those doors. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the great pics, pixiesnake! :artist: I can't wait to show them to my niece and nephew, the only reason I booked us at AKL was because they love the animals. Of course now I think I am as excited as them! :cool1: And thanks for explaining how you got them! I originally booked a savannah view but then upgraded to cl because niece and nephew want to do the sunrise safari (thank you travel channel) and am now hoping for a savannah view. Don't want to tell the kids that we possibly traded out of the savannah view for the sunrise safari yet, but will probably tell them them right before we leave so they aren't disappointed if we don't get one. They are 8 and knowing them they will be fine with it especially since my niece told me she wants to spend some more time at the resort and in the pool this visit since we have been to the parks before, after all they have been there six times already! These are the same kids that after 3 stays at the Poly walked into the room at POFQ and said it was much smaller than the rooms we usually stay in. I told my sister that her kids are hotel snobs because all we ever stayed in when we were on vacation with my parents were motels like Howard Johnsons. But then again I guess we were lucky that our parents took us on vacation just about every year.

PPP and VAgal:

The info is indeed on the allears site. Go to accomodations and there is a link for soaps for special children. However, in going to the link right now, it says that they are overstocked with the soap, but in need of small items like bubbles, crayons, and play-doh.

Here's hoping that everyone heading out to AKL has a wonderful relaxing vacation on the Savanna! I am going thru vacation envy right now, and will accept adoption into anyones family right now....Any takers??????

Angel: Excellent news! V&A chefs table! I wish DH would appreciate this experience, but alas.. that does not look like it would happen in my lifetime.

Pixiesnake: Great pic's! I am so going to get a better camera.

Alrighty then, finally got moved (Susan and I just pulled up stakes andmoved to South Dakota) and got internet again. Catching up a bit here...

Great pics everyone! I'll be taking my digital still and video camera's as well as providing several "disposable" cameras to cast members for use at appropriate times throughout or week, so hopefully I'll able to add to the great collection here a little. I'm hoping to be able to set up a website with video and stills for everyone who has asked to be able to see a lot more than I can reasonable post here and will definately post the address for anyone interested.

I did the ME thing on return based on trying to make things as simple and easy as possible. From what Don told me, the bellman will pick up our bags at the room and that's the last we'll need to see of them until we de-plane back in SD. As well, we'll be able to get our boarding passes downstairs before we leave. I'd gladly spring for the limo ride b ack to the airport if I didn't have to fight what I know will be horrendous crowds in Orlando to get checked in and such.

Thanks for the tip on the VIP thingy at Tour Guide Mike's. I really wish I had known about that from the start. I think I would have gathered fewer grey haris and we probably would end up with a smoother trip than what is likley to be the case with me at the helm. Still, at least I know it's available now and will definately avail myself next time.

Thank you again, everyone for your great information and help in all this. Now if I can only find all the "stuff" I've been accumlating related to this in all these boxes....

now that i found out what mnsshp is, i am happy to say we purchased the tickets today for sept 15, gonna try to keep this as a surprise for the kids and make it a day all about the kids since we already have a day as an adults day (massages and dinner, etc),so now i got to get costumes and figuire out what kind of adr we want to make for an early dinner before the mk opens up for mnsshp and work in a nap before the adr, thinking maybe skip the parks in the morning and go shopping at downtown disney as we originally planned to make the later part of the day a shopping day, how does this sound?

Wendypooh, glad you are feeling better!

Pixiesnake, what kind of camera did you take the pics with?

AKLGoofy, hope you find everything.

dm220, shopping at DTD in the am and mnsshp in the pm sounds good to me. I have a 5:30p ADR at LTT for the night we do the MVMCP so we are in the MK when it starts. My other option would have been a restaurant at one of the monorail resorts around that time. Have fun!

Pixiesnake, what kind of camera did you take the pics with?

I actually have 2 different cameras. Most of the pictures were taken with a Panasonic DMC-FZ5. A few were taken with a Casio Exilim S500. (BTW, the pictures are actually much better than they appear on here - I had to shrink the file size, which makes them lose some of the clarity.) I like both cameras and would recommend them. They are both easy enough for a novice like me, but have enough options for my DH who is a much better photographer than I am. (I wish he had been on the trip with me, the pictures would have been much better.) We like the Panasonic for the 12X zoom, but it can be a bit bulky to carry around. The Casio is pocket size, but only has 3X zoom.

I have more pictures to post - of the pool, lobby and my room. I will get to them soon.

Bob, TGM might have saved some grey hairs but there is no way he would have as much romance as you have put into your plans. Your itinerary has raised the bar so high the rest of us would need to be pole vaulters.

True enough I suppose. Kind of like the ashtray's you made for Mom on Mother's Day... not as nice as Waterford, but certainly more meaningful...

We are just back from AKL! Have only stayed in Savanna view before, but booked Pool view this trip. We were upgraded to Deluxe Pool view and it was nice to have the extra space (DD preferred the daybed and DS took the top bunk!). The view of the pool was fantastic. I still prefer the Savanna view though, but did not mind the pool view, fun to sit out and people watch! We had a great time, still my favorite resort. :) DD did the cookie decorating at 1pm, and then the crayon rubbing. She does this each visit. :teeth: Actually DS (15!) also joined in on the cookie decorating for the first time!
This was the view from our 5th floor room

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I am a newbie planning my first trip to WDW Sept 13-23. We are staying the first 5 days at Poly and the last 5 at AKL. I have become a complete DIS boards addict and cannot stop myself from checking many times a day. I have almost eveything planned but am looking at what I should be requesting for our rooms.
We have booked a Savannah View with DDP and the only requests I have so far are non-smoking. I also added in bunk beds for DS5 and DD3 but it is more important for me to find the best possible room and view for the level we are booked in at. I can't really tell from the map where that would be :confused3
I would love any advice for room requests (I've tried going through most of these pages and have seen the slideshows) but my husband is getting right crusty with all of the time I am spending on the boards. :surfweb: Doesn't he know that all of the hours agonizing and researching is going to pay off in the end???!!! :cool1:

Hey, with all the play that zebra domes get (and rightly so :cloud9: ) what is/and or do they still have simba paw prints? (I noticed them listed on the Boma menu beneath the zebra domes...

Also, if anyone or their offspring have done the cookie decorating could you tell me a little more about it? (DD is a little bummed out that we aren't going to the Concourse Steak House, where they do have a paint your your cookie on the kid's dessert menu.) Doesn't AKL put out giraffe cookies? Do they give you frosting, etc....

Anyone leaving soon: Have a fabulous trip :wave2:. I wish I were going sooner. 6months seems like a very long time... :hourglass

BBB - Wow! DNeph (8) will love that cookie project (he loves anything that has to do with any animal and/or Africa, which he just finished studying in school!!). Do you remember the times of any of the other kids activities? We are spending this coming weekend at AKL and doing the sunrise safari on Sun AM - trying to 'scale back' park time this trip as I suddenly find myself recuperating from an unexpected surgery - so I'm hoping to occupy him at the resort while I 'rest' in the lobby! Where do the kids meet up for the activities? and do they go alone with the CMs, or do the parents (or aunts ;) ) go along? TIA ! :smooth:

In Jan. my DS missed the cookie decorating, I hope we can do it this time, it looks cute!! He did get to do the Primal Parade from the Zawadi Marketplace, they do it each night, the kids pick musical instruments from the store, then they march around the lobby playing them....... he really enjoyed it, then at the end they get a certificate for participating. This next trip we are going to let him do the Adventure Camp, it's for kids 6-14, they get a private lodge tour, and special animal viewing, they get to paint a real ostrich egg, and they get lunch overlooking the savannah...... it sounds like fun!!! Someone had posted more info on it awhile back, I'll see if I can find it and post it. There is a lot for the kids to do, each day's activities are listed on the activities board near the check in desk. You guys are going to love it!!! Oh, boy - thanks for the heads up. I want to hold one!

I noticed one variation on your schedule: The Storytelling (African Folktales) was at 7:30 this past week. I know when we went one Nov. it was earlier.

I think the times for some things can and often do change on a daily basis. ( I would assume this changed as it stays daylight longer)??

What does "bead activity" mean? Does that mean the activity is just for children?

pixiesnake
06-07-2006, 08:18 PM
A few of the activities are geared more towards adults. With the kids activities they have certain ones where the kids earn a bead for doing the activity. They give them a string to put them all on. Some of the beads were really cool - I wanted them too, but only for the kids.

Hey Everyone :wave2:

Everytime in the past few days I have tried to view the thread in the afternoon I have gotten the dreaded server to busy message :badpc:

Anyways...I feel so homesick for the lodge right now :guilty: Can it be September yet? Thanks to everyone who just got back and posted pictures. I might have to re-break out my video from last fall that I took.

Vagal- I wish I was going to AKL and on the cruise with you...no one in my family wants to cruise :sad2:

Wendy- I can't believe we are under 3 months until we arrive! I feel like I have so much planning left to do...like buy airfare tickets :scared1:

Wish we would be there on a Wed. the AKL camp sounds like it would be very neat and my niece and nephew would probably enjoy it. Oh well, could be an excuse for next year's trip! ;) The kids are really excited and even though this trip is really for them, I think I am just as excited! :cheer2:

VAgal, sounds like a great trip, have a wonderful time! We are hoping to do our 1st Disney cruise next year!

Doesn't want to cruise? No, seriously. Don't be upset by that. We didn't think of it either until this past year when a few friends went on their first one and LOVED it. So naturally we had jump on that train and give it a whirl. I wish our schedules matched up better as it's more fun when you have a group.

I did the culinary tour and discovered the carrot ginger soup @ Boma's (served on Saturday only). It was time well spent IMO. ::yes:: I loved the parade with the kids last time we were there. I wish I could've joined in, but I don't think I'd pass for a young'n anymore. :rotfl:

AKL and cruising are my two favorite thinggs in the world. If I can answer anything about the cruise, let meknow, I've done three and had to tie myself down not to booknext year while I was in the ship last March. It is the most fantastic thing you can do for yourself and your family. Ask anything and I'll reply.
Going to AKL in14 days for a 3 day stay with my 76 yr. old mom- no kids. It should be a great break!

Hey guys :wave2: I just wanted to drop in and ask you... Did you hear that? AKL is steadily calling my name. I can't shake it. So I've been working on DH and my parents as well as DD who has her heart set on the serpent slide at FQ. And I think they are caving in. I almost feel guilty about it  My mom told me that CRO is going to start blocking my calls. We have been on a resort roller coaster and I've let it get out of control. I just want our vacation to be perfect. Anyway, my parents are looking at Poly because of the monorail but I've sent my mom Seaspray's website address www.brownfamilyvacations.com, if that doesn't get 'em I'm SOL, so wish me luck.

Asking for prayers and /or pixie dust for my mom. She under goes open heart surgery for an aortic anuerysm (just above the heart) surgery tomorrow am and all of the drs are saying it is a very delicate and fairly risky operation! My family and I are pretty nervous, especially that my older sister, only 43, died 6 years ago the day after surgery of a pulmonary embolism. Thanks.

I thought I had all of my ADRs all set, but now I find myself changing things around in my head...I haven't called WDW DINE yet though! 2 Extra nights will be so great. I'm hoping they release some decent AP rates for September becuase I might be able to budget in a few days at AKL for my b-day trip. I wish we were close enough to drive.

Have you thought about doing any of the Signature dining places? I would consider Artist Point, Jiko, and CA Grill. I have to agree with the hubby about adding another Le Cellier on they have some great food. What about Mama Melroses or Chefs de France, Yachtsman Galley looks decent too.

I am booked at AKL in deluxe savannah w bunkbeds.....have a chance to upgrade to Concierge level, but I hear there is no Guarantee if you get a Savannah or Pool..What are the chances of actually getting a savannah? I would be very disappointed if we got a pool view :confused3

Also ,what is included in Concierge?

Is it worth the risk??? :confused3

Well I talked to my mom and told her about the food court situation at Poly, don't get me wrong Poly is my dream resort but for now I feel AKL would better suit us. But I took it upon myself to call CRO and book AKL again, I don't think I'm going to tell DD's or DH and let it be a surprise. DH knows I'm toying w/ the idea and he'll suspect that's what I'm doing anyway. And dd's will be excited regardless of where we stay. I told my mom what I've done but as it turns out their trip is now up in the air because of travel dates and my dad is over several jobs right now and they have a new big $ project that they will need to bid on the end of August. I do hope they can come but in the mean time

I would go for it! Value season at the resorts starts August 27th, which means that the entire WDW resort is very slow. I would think you have a fairly good chance of getting the savannah room (just make sure to add it as a request). If you don't get it pool view is nice too and there are plenty of places to see the animals at the resort. I have seen some Savannah rooms that are less than disireable (I'm sure the concierge ones are all good though). Remember most of the rooms at AKL have animal views.
