April 22--here's where I started this thread:

Here's the last post from my old journal:

February 27, 2005

Hey, everybody! Tomorrow is the start of my new "Just Do It! Plan" For the next 7 weeks--2/28 until 4/16, I'm going to do my darndest to be healthy and lean! With the help and support of my friends, I'm going to walk my 6 Smilie healthy walk like this:

1. I'm going to read my devotions and Bible EVERY DAY because I need the strength that only God can give. That's where I'm going to keep my center and I KNOW that I can't walk this alone. :)

2. I'm going to take my vitamins EVERY DAY! :)

3. I'm going to drink cool refreshing water--6-8 glasses of it EVERY DAY! :)

4. I'm going to follow an ambitious half marathon training plan, pushing myself even when I'm tired (unless I'm sick with a fever). I'm going to walk or strength train 6 days a week. NO EXCUSES! Whether it's one mile or 10, I'm going to do it. :)

5. I'm going to eat a healthy WW diet using all my activity points and flex points. If I stumble--and I may--I'm going to get back up and keep on going. :)

6. I'm going to look at my scale EVERY DAY and take my measurements once a week. :)

I'm going to make MYSELF and my health a PRIORITY in my life, and I'm going to print this out and READ IT EVERY SINGLE DAY! At the end of 7 weeks, I'll reevaluate this plan, but no matter what: I'm going to do this for me. NO EXCUSES!

Erin :shamrock:

PS Could everyone wear their jammies inside out tonight? I'd really appreciate it!

I'm starting a new journal to celebrate my fresh start. This is the place where I'm going to try my hardest to take care of ME and to lose the weight that's holding me down as I train for my half marathon. I don't have any desires to be model thin--I just want to be feeling fit and active and not so chubby. Doreen and I have talked a lot about this and we're united in going forward!

I remember when I first started on the WISH, back in 8/03, I had a real desire to be fit. I have that desire now, but it's gotten covered up by the day to day stresses of work and family. It's time for me to dust myself off and to get back in the game of taking care of me.

Here I go!

E.

Edit: April 23, 2005

A couple of months ago I started this thread (my 3rd journal actually) under the name of Lulu201's Just Do It! Plan. As it states above, I was thinking I was ready for a "no excuses" tough-love kind of approach to fitness, one that was going to finally get me to where I need to go, one that would recognize that I need to take care of ME.

Well, I'm still in that place. . .kind of. I know I still have to take care of me, but I'm thinking that the way to get there is NOT a tough love, no excuses approach, but rather the same old day to day struggle that I've had since I've joined WISH in August 2003. Some days will be easy, and some will be tough. There will be times I can focus on ME and days I must recognize that the focus has to be totally elsewhere. It's my hope--my prayer, actually--that with God's help I can have more days that are somewhere in the middle. That I can be in a place where I can give love and attention to those around me without sacrificing my health and well-being.

If you're reading this journal for the first time, you'll witness the struggle I had with a "Just Do It!" approach in the next several entries. If you go ahead a month or so, you'll see how I wasn't able to keep up an extensive dieting and exercise regime and had to moderate my goals to be more realistic. I'm happier in that place, and I'll continue to just try to walk the walk, day by day, moving forward, and looking Upward.

Aww, you're my first visitor, Doreen! How appropriate! We're gonna kick some buttoosky tomorrow, kiddo!

Here's today (even though this journal isn't official 'til tomorrow) in a nutshell:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water :)
4. Exercise--10 miles on the treadie. I walked/ran the first 6 in about 80, then had to stop and pick up DD at church choir. Had dinner with the family and then went back to walk some more. The last 4 were in 61 minutes. Suffice it to say that I'm happy and proud that I got this mega-walk in, but I am soooooo tired I can barely hold my head up. :)
5. Food--oh, heck, I ate whatever I wanted to today 'cause tomorrow I'm walking straight and narrow.
6. Scale-- :)

It was a FULL, wonderful day. Church was incredibly uplifting, DD and I drove by her "maybe" new school and picked up some groceries, DH and I cleaned out the garage and made it into a gym space which we all LOVE! Then I walked those miles. . .yeah it was a good day. I'm feeling more like maybe I can do this half marathon thingy.

I'm going to have a little snack  and then go to bed. Snow day tomorrow???? :cheer2:

Erin

Oops, forgot my plan for meals (it's my goal to plan one day ahead)

Good morning, Everyone! It's Monday, February 28, 2005 Day #1 of the "Just Do It!" Plan :flower:

We're getting ready for another snow storm! :Pinkbounc

Here's the plan for today:

1. Devotions: I'm going to take DD to school and then will settle down w/my devotional stuff and the book by Max Lucado, "In the Grip of Grace." I'll get to my healthy living book, too, and will post on that later. :)

2. Vitamins: :)

3. Water: I'm about 7/8. I'm giving myself a smilie now; I'll have another glass in a few minutes. :)

4. Exercise: This afternoon I'm going to get on the treadie and do 4 miles. I know that I should really rest today, but I'm not going to push it. I don't think I'll have time tomorrow, so today's the day. I'm much better getting my long walk in on Saturday.

5. Food: Had my breakfast as planned--eng. muffin w/pb and coffee=7
Snack was a half of a banana=1. Change of plan for lunch=McDonald's salad=10; 18 so far for the day. 3 p.m. snack=orange. Better get on that treadie. OK, I'm back to post dinner=1/2 cup pasta=2, chicken=5, sauce =1 Total for day 26. Dessert was s.f. jello.
Target points are 24, AP will be 2. I'll figure it out after I actually exercise.

6. Scale: My weight this morning is 178.

My measurements:

Upper arm: 12" (R)
Bust: 43" (next time I'm wearing a minimizer bra!!! :teeth: )
Chest: 34"
Waist: 32.5"
Hips: 42"
Thigh: 25" (R)

I'm going to take DD to school and then come home and find myself a ticker to keep track of my weight.

'Til later:

Erin :flower:

Edit: OK, here's the exercise scoop. I walked 2 miles in 30 on the treadie. I can't do any more. I'm tired, but I'm proud of myself for walking. :)

I really don't know how I'm going to train for this half marathon--I don't know if I can follow what my training schedule says. I think I'm going to have to have some flexibility, but I know I'll try to do what I can. It looks like the kids might be off from school or have a delay tomorrow, so I'm going to wake up with DH at 5:30 and get out to the treadie by 6. Doreen, what does your training schedule say we should do this week? Maybe I should follow yours instead of mine.

Washed the dog, reorganized a book case and moved it into the garage/gym. Made the beds, did the dishes, went to Kmart and Target. Will do the laundry tonight with DD while watching TV. I relate to Doreen's term "laundry stress." If that darn laundry is hanging around and not put away, I hate starting the week!

I put down the Max Lucado book. I usually like his work, but this one isn't grabbing me. Has anyone read his book "Come Thirsty?" The next chapter in my healthy living book is about "forgiveness." Holding back anger and hurt and not forgiving can lead to symptoms of stress and ill-health. The author says to "let go and let God" basically. That's my book report for today.

Final edit for the day:

Well, I made it through the day. I'm so doggone tired; I hit the wall about an hour ago. Now maybe I know what I'll feel like 24 hours post-race?
Right now I want to eat. Anything. Browse around the kitchen and eat! I may go have some yogurt and some almonds for 3 flex points, but I know that really it has to do with being tired. I feel like a tire that someone's deflated!
Too bad I'm not that thin! :teeth:

OK, so now I have to plan for tomorrow's meals, because I know that to be successful I have to have a plan.

Breakfast:
Oatmeal w/bananas and almonds and cinnamon and splenda and milk=4
Coffee w/half and half=1

Snack:
1 oz. cheddar cheese and 3 crackers=3?

Lunch:
Tuna sandwich and lite mayo=8? Have to double check the bread

Snack:
Orange

Dinner:
Tuesday is usually Saladworks; I'll have to see about this.

Gotta watch American Idol and cheer on my guy Anthony.

'Night,
Erin

Everyone is starting new journals! :)

I love your new resolve to kick butt and your plan looks good! I am very impressed by your 10 mile walk - you go girl! Take it easy on the 4 miles today and remember to do lots of stretching.

Your menu looks good - I think it is great to start the day with a plan, it eliminates what I call the ? factor.

Ok Erin,

You asked. I am getting a Quad venti sugar free vanilla nonfat cappucino. Say that 3 times fast. It helps that I have a coupon for a free drink. I figure the quad is called for since I will be up for 31 hours.

:cool1: Good morning! It's MARCH! Hold on a minute here, I've got to use my green:

OK, that's better. NOW I'm ready for March! :)

Thanks for stopping by last night, Doreen. I was pooped yesterday, but today is brand new and I'm so happy I made it through Day #1. Here's the plan for today:

1. Devotions: "In what way can I do God's will today?" :)
2. Vitamins: will have them soon
3. Water: will start drinking soon
4. Exercise: will walk on the treadie soon. 4 miles is the goal
5. Food: breakfast was as planned--banana cinnamon almond oatmeal with coffee=5
6. Scale: :)

Between Dzone and post-long-walk fatigue, I did a negative number on myself yesterday. I CAN DO THIS! :cool1: Just gotta take it one step at a time.

Today I'm not sure what work will involve because of the snow. I'd love to work this afternoon if I can.

My only food challenge for the day will be dinner DD and my Tuesday night dinner at Saladworks. I'm going to have to check the website again and see what looks to be a good choice. Maybe we'll have dinner at home instead?

I'm off and into the day!
Erin :shamrock:

Edit: had the vitamins :), have had a glass of water (gotta get in more), lunch was my tuna (3+.5 light mayo) sandwich (2 points for bread) and pickle. Great lunch at 5.5 points. I'm going to have this more often. Didn't get my walk in yet, had to run to the drs. office instead. Am going to get out to the treadie now, even though I'll have to shower and dress all over again!
Hey, what can I say? That's what we Jock Athlete princess: types do for our sport!

Edit #2: It's about 7:40 and I'm still drinking water. How many times do you think I'll be up tonight going to the bathroom? :p Walked 4 miles on the treadie. P.M. Snack was 1 oz. cheese and 3 saltines. Salad was great at Saladworks.

Food plan for tomorrow:

Breakfast:
I think I'll have that oatmeal again.

Snack: orange

Lunch:
Veggies, yogurt, and walnuts

Snack: apple and 1 oz. cheese
more veggies

Dinner: Soup and crackers

Exercise: 2 miler on the treadie

2 miles is fantastic after a 10 mile walk! You did awesome! Food looks good, water was great - you had a wonderful day my friend! Keep it up and you'll see those 160's sooner rather then later.

I love your breakfast for today - sounds so yummy. I LOVE Oatmeal. Do you buy non-flavored Oatmeal and then season it yourself? I might have to try this and see how many carbs it is. I miss my Oatmeal! :)

Have a good day, stay warm from the snow!

 everyone, thanks for stopping by!

Doreen, thanks for the imagery of the OC walk. I'm going to think of it as I'm on the treadie. I'm also going to look around for an ocean view print to hang by the treadie!

Amanda, I haven't had my oatmeal for so long, but with the snow and everything, it just seemed right. When I was trying SB, I gave up my oatmeal, but I'm glad to have it back. Anyway, I use 1/4 cup of the quick cooking oats (not instant), add 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup water, 1 tbsp. sliced almonds, some cinnamon and splenda to taste, and then when it comes out of the microwave, I cut a half banana on top and then mush it around. Voila! I have to admit, it's better than the peanut butter banana oatmeal I used to make.

Tracy, Saladworks IS WW friendly. . . I just have to make up my mind which salad to choose. They give a delicious whole wheat roll with it, too. I just have to watch the butter.

:grouphug: to all,
Erin

These instructions sound like a pain, but it truly doesn't take long.
You click on your current ticker and the TickerFactory window will open.
You create your ticker again, putting in the appropriate numbers, etc.
You copy the code at the end (the FIRST set for vBulletin) and paste it in your siggie.
Then delete the "old" code out of your siggie.
Save and enjoy!

Have to be short 'cause it's time to get DD to school:

1. Devotions: Our prayer changes circumstances and changes us." :)
2. Vitamins:
3. Water: 24 oz. done
4. Exercise: 4 miles on the treadie
5. Food: english muffin and pb
6. Scale: :)

I'll stop in later.

Edit: Well, we didn't get out of the driveway. . .I have a flat tire!! I know that this doesn't seem like a woman of the 21st century, but you know what? I don't do tires, so DH will be home soon to fix it, and we'll just have to hang out 'til then. As you can imagine, DD is devastated (is that spelled right?) that she'll miss part of her morning at school! :teeth:

Yesterday was a :) :) :) :) :) :) , but if I'm honest, it was just barely. I was tired and hungry yesterday afternoon and ate two soft pretzels--I had the flex points for them, so I'm still officially on track, but it wasn't a good decision. With Aunt Flo expected in two days and the weekend coming, I know I'm in a dangerous spot for staying on plan. Tonight we're going out for dinner--I don't know where yet--and I feel very vulnerable. I need to plan!

Breakfast: english muffin, pb, coffee (7)
Lunch: yogurt and almonds (3-4)
Snack: cut veggies

Total points: 24T+4 AP+5 Flex (15 currently in the bank)

All right, I'm feeling a little better now. . .maybe dinner could be at Saladworks instead of my favorite Mexican place "On the Border"? Someday I'll eat at O. the B. again, but not during training. I'm a Jock Athlete princess: who needs to get fit!

DH is patiently and persistantly working on the building the weight contraption. It's not a bow-flex, but it's one of those "unit" kind of deals. When I saw all the parts to it, I almost fainted, but he doesn't seem daunted in the least! Ahh, to have a mechanical mind!

OK, so I'm going to ramble a bit now:

This is day #5 of the Just Do It Plan, and I'm glad I'm on it. It's really helping me to take care of myself at a time when I'm feeling a lot of pressure to keep up with many things. I'm trying to look at all of this as a way of being good to myself; though, if I'm honest, sometimes I think of it as another thing on my "to do" list. When I feel negative, I remember that too often taking care of ME is put on the bottom of the list, and that's not how it should be. The exercise and the diet are what's good for me. Sure it takes time (and the walking coming up for the weekend is going to take A LOT of time), but I'm worth it! This walk that I'm on, this journey, is going to result in a stronger, healthier me! :cool1:

I'm going to visit around a bit and then get my walking started. :teeth:

HAVE A GREAT FRIDAY, EVERYONE! (AND THAT MEANS THE GUYS IN THE VILLAGE PEOPLE, TOO!) :rockband: :firefight

Edit: vitamins :) , more water, sandwich for lunch (will have shrimp and chick. and broc. for dinner--chinese), and 4 miles on the treadie. :)

:rotfl: OK, now I've seen everything!! I never, ever expected to find The Village People in our journals!!! :rotfl: But all are welcome, so party on!!

Erin, I'm so proud of you!!! I know how hard it is to take the time every day to exercise no matter what else is on the schedule, to scrutinize every bite of food with so many other things vying for our attention, to account for how many ounces of water we've had and find time for extra trips to "the little girls' room". This healthy living IS an extra burden, no doubt about it! ::yes::

However, that extra "burden" is what keeps us fit enough and healthy enough to do all those other things we do. It gives us the energy to be better wives, mothers, workers, church members, community members, etc. Without investing this time in ourselves, we'd be fatter and more lethargic. We'd do so much less and feel so much worse about ourselves. I'd certainly rather feel tired but fit and fulfilled than tired and disappointed in all the things I was too sick and tired to do. Does that make sense?

 for you, dear Erin. This IS hard work, but the rewards are so worth it! Keep your eyes on the prize, girlfriend, when the going gets tough. :sunny:

Have a wonderful day and know that you are up to the challenges that lay before you. :flower:

:rotfl: I don't change tires either. :rotfl:

I hope your morning starts looking up! Okay so eating out - it is ROUGH! Especially since usually the healthy choice on the menu is *not* my favorite dish. Just try to keep the rest of your meals on the low side of your points today. Plan some 0 point snacks, and I think you will be great. Especially since you will have some activity points from your exercise (do you still get those?)

Thanks for stopping by, girls. Yes, I do get Activity Points, Amanda, and with the 10 I have left for the day, plus the 3 AP I get, I should be OK. We've decided on Chinese. I'll have chicken and broccoli, some steamed shrimp, and some rice, and I'll be just fine. The nice part will be getting out with DH. Speaking of DH, he was my knight in shining armour with that tire. :love2:

While on the treadmill, I got to thinking about the half and how much fun it's going to be in Ocean City. Sometimes I forget that I'm doing this all for FUN! :p I walked 22 miles this week. . .I'm proud of myself. :cool1: Thanks, Doreen, for saying you're proud of me, too. :goodvibes

2. Vitamins: :)
3. Water: 2/8
4. Exercise: 8 miles. "Just do it."
5. Food: english muffin and pb, coffee and cream
6. Scale: :)

Have to run to the bank after work and to the grocery store for a few necessities like bread and milk. I want to catch up on some email and letter writing, call my in-laws in FL, and start the laundry. I'm hoping to spend most of the afternoon at home doing housework. Sound exciting? :p

Erin

Edit: Had to share this from my devotional at dailyguideposts.com: "Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Hebrews 12: 1-2

Edit #2: Water, 5/8; snack was a Dunkin' Donuts med. coffee--about 3 points for the cream, lunch was soup and crackers, 6. Total so far today is 16.Have made the bed, started the laundry, and am getting ready to load the dishwasher. DSiL called to say DMiL is in the hospital in FL with congestive heart failure and arhythmia. The poor lady. DH and I will talk to her on and off throughout the day just to keep her spirits up.

Edit #3: Water, 8/8 :) , did my 8 on the treadie in 120. :) Feeling good--not exhausted. :cool1: Snack at 6:30 was 2 points. Dinner was 2 crab cakes-8, cup of grilled shrimp--2, 1/2 cup green beans--0, 1/2 baked potato w/lite sour cream--2.5, 1 tsp. of sliced almonds on green beans-=-.5/ 13 total for dinner. Total of 31 for day, 24T and 7 AP :)

Good morning Erin!

Congratulations on walking 22 miles this week! Woohoo! :Pinkbounc That is wonderful!

I love those verses in Hebrews 12! Our pastor did a sermon on them a few weeks ago and one of my friend's used them as her "theme" for the school year. (She's a teacher.) Life is an endurance race isn't it? Although I think that a few "sprints" are often thrown in for good measure. ;)

Have a wonderful Saturday, Erin! You are doing it! :cheer2:

:sunny: Good morning, everyone! :sunny:

It's Monday, March 7, 2005--day 8 of my Just Do It! Plan! I earned :) :) :) :) :) yesterday. . .all except the Food one.
No excuses here--I ate too many oreos and a donut and a half. I had a salty salad for dinner with blue cheese dressing. Everything added up to losing my smilie and showing NO LOSS for the week on the scale. (I'd been 2-3 lbs. lower all week.) Oh well, you play, you pay, right?

It's a new day and while I'm discouraged and disappointed in myself, I've done a lot of good for myself this past week, and I'm ready to continue on. The plan:

1. Devotions: :) Prayer focus: Those limited by fear.
2. Vitamins: :)
3. Water: 6/8
4. Exercise: Decided to walk outside instead, did 2.38 :)
5. Food: lo-carb Eng. muffin=1, pb=4, coffee=1. Total is 6. Lunch was small (teeny) cup of veggie soup, a roll, a chicken breast and broccoli at the luncheon.
6. Scale: :) back to 178 :sad2:

Have a busy day; will try to stop by when I can. :grouphug: to all!

Erin, you've been doing very well. A little slipup on Sunday does not take away all the hard work you've put in - your body is better because of your healthy living and no scale number can take that away! ::yes::

We're back into Monday, facing our busy weekdays. We'll take it one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time. :p

Congrats on all the mileage you've been getting in on your walks!! WOW!! OC will be a stroll in the park for you! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I'm thinking that due to the salty salad your body may be retaining some water. Drink a lot of water today and weigh yourself again tomorrow. If you show the 2 to 3 lb loss again then I think you should claim it. Think about it.

Have a great day!!

It's Tuesday, March 8, 2005 Good morning! Yesterday was a lamb day; today it's going to be a lion. :cold: Sounds like it'll be a good night to cozy up with the afghan.

Yesterday was a :) :) :) :) :) :) . My biggest challenge was a luncheon I had to go to; I handled that OK--just skipped the ice cream and potato.

Here's the plan for today:

2. Vitamins :)
3. Water 4/8
4. Exercise--3 miles on the treadie in 43:something
5. Food
breakfast: locarb eng. muffin w/pb and coffee=5
snack: 1/2 orange .5
lunch=8.5 ham 6" sub at subway+baked lays
snack: 2 slices of lunchmeat=2
Total so far: 16 points out of possible 24T+3AP=27
dinner: salad at saladworks. To do this, I'll have to use some of my flex, but hey, that's what they're for, right?
6. Scale: :) 176 this morning. I took your advice, you guys, and changed my ticker this morning. I feel good about that. It's nice to see that butterfly moving.

I'm going to take a page out of Beth's journal and exercise this morning BEFORE I do any of the household chores that are hanging over me. I'd like to get them done before work, but I know I have to make my healthy living a priority. You're inspiring me, Beth, to make choices like this.

Today is DDs big presentation. She and her group at school have been working for two months on this. She said this morning, on her way to school, that she's been thinking about this day since 3rd grade! Please keep her in any spare prayers you may have.

5. Food--chicken and broccoli for lunch, apple for snack, breakfast was eng. muffin, soft pretzel for a p.m. snack.

2. Vitamins: I can't remember if I took these or not. Hold on while I go check. . .OK, took them. :)
3. Water: working on cup #6 of 8.
4. Exercise: 4 miles on the treadie today, after I take DDog to the groomer. :)
5. Food: english muffin, pb, and coffee=7 and a little milk and OJ, lunch will be tuna sandwich=5.5 and carrot sticks, p.m. snack was a soft pretzel. hmmm, don't know about dinner yet.
6. Scale: :)

I'm going to drop off the dog, stop by KMart, and then come home to walk the treadie while DH uses the weight system. Then I'll pick up the dog, buy candy at Walgreens for my piano students' treat jar, and then go to work. I have this morning off from the preschool--part of my attempt to treat myself better and to recognize that working 2 10-12 hour days in a row is not the best for me. (Beth, I don't know how you do more than that every single weekend.)

Well, that's the day in a nutshell. I'll try to visit around when I can. :grouphug: to everyone; you're important to me.

Quick note for March 11, 2005:

DD did her presentation with her group yesterday afternoon! :cheer2: Thanks, everyone, for your prayers and :goodvibes. They didn't get any feedback, but it sounds like they did a good job.

Yesterday was a :) :) :) :) :) . I didn't give myself a smilie for food; I didn't overeat, but I ate a lot of carbs. Dinner was a little bit of cereal and another eng. muffin w/pb. Today I'm going to try for more fruits and veggies.

The plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water 4/8 :)
4. Exercise--strength training; maybe a mile or two on the treadie. Did a mile and worked my upper body with DH's plan. :)
5. Food--english muffin breakfast (approx. 7). Lunch will be a sandwich, pickle, and carrot sticks (7). soft pretzel for snack (3) Dinner will be pizza (18) and a small salad.
6. Scale :)

Off and into the day!

Today's March 12, 2005 and I feel like a little color!

Yesterday I earned :) :) :) :) :) . I can't honestly give myself one for food because I ate over 35 points. With my 24 T, 3 AP, and even some flex, I was over my limit. I didn't binge eat, however, so that's a good thing.

Today's plan of action:

1. Devotions: :) God's spirit is in me.
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--3/8; have to drink more!
4. Exercise--will walk 5 miles on the treadie this afternoon. I've felt a lot of stress lately and this walking has helped me feel better! :Pinkbounc
5. Food--slice of toast w/pb, orange juice (no fruit in the house!), and coffee. Lunch was 2 slices of meat lover's pizza and 1 and 1/3 breadsticks. Snack this afternoon was green grapes. Dinner will be DH's chicken and shrimp paella.
6. Scale :)

I'll be leaving for work shortly, then will run some errands. I have to take back some clothes at Kohl's, pick up some potpies at church (now doesn't that sound like healthy food???), get some fruit at the produce market, and buy some party stuff at the dollar store. DD wants to stop at Pizza Hut for lunch, so I'll have a personal pan (14) or a couple of slices there probably. This afternoon I'll walk and do laundry, all at a leisurely pace.

Well, that sounds like a plan! Time to get a move on!

Erin

Edit: Haven't done the walk yet. . .want a nap instead! Will get to it, though, when DD comes home. We're planning a family night in the home gym. Me on the treadie and DH and DD on the weight thingy. Have to go pick up DD at a friend's house. . .seems like it's been a whole day of driving around! :moped:

March 14, 2005

Well, today marks the beginning of a new week. Yesterday was good--I did some light walking with my WISH-sis Doreen, so I got :) :) :) :) :) for the day.

Here's how I'm doing today:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins-- :)
3. Water--5/8
4. Exercise--going to hit the treadie for 4 miles in a minute :)
5. Food--english muffin w/pb and 2 coffees--one regular and one decaf, had my banana for a snack. Yogurt for lunch as planned. Pretzel and an orange for a snack.
6. Scale :)

I had a great time yesterday with Doreen, and issues we discussed have helped me decide to rethink my journal. My title now celebrates my wish to stay healthy--regular exercise and better eating and good habits, but I know that the reality of life is not going to allow me to attack my weight problems "commando style." I'm going to leave my ticker in my siggie as a reminder of what my goal is (a 25 BMI), but I'm going to take whatever time I need to get there. My goal is to incorporate healthy eating and living into my life day by day and I'm going to "just do it" the best that I can. Right now, for example, I don't want to count points, but I will do my best to get in more fruits and veggies and not eat junk food regularly.

Here's today's meal plan:

Breakfast--had that english muffin and pb
Snack--banana
Lunch--yogurt and almonds
Snack (before teaching at 3:00)--veggies, orange
Dinner--tuna sandwich and a pickle

I'll continue to train for the half marathon as my schedule allows. The fact of the matter is that I'm so busy or so tired on the weekends that it's hard to get in long, long walks. I'm not going to stress about that anymore. I'm just going to do what I can do and have fun with the whole half experience. I'll continue to walk my 4 miles on the mornings that I'm home and strength train on my busier days. . .that'll just have to do. When I go to the half in April, I'm going as a celebration of my commitment to a healthy life as a 43 year old working mom!

So now I'm going off into the day--I've got to do some exercise and then some light housekeeping. Then I'm going to take some time to pray and get my center :goodvibes , then call my mom and mother-in-law. I have to go to work early to get some things ready for special programs on Saturday. . .it's going to be a busy full day. I'm ready in my baby step kind of way. :)

Moving onward and always, always, looking Upward.
Erin

Today is a bright and beautiful day. Let's walk through it together. :cool1: :cool1: We'll rely on those healthy habits we've built up in the past to carry us through and we'll do what we can. We can let go of all our high expectations and rest in Him. :cloud9:

Good morning, everyone! It's Tuesday, March 15, 2005

I like Tuesdays. Even though the day is long (because I have choir in the p.m.), I have a little time in the morning to get my ducks in a row, and then I have some nice kids and classes. I'm looking forward to today. :goodvibes

Let's see:

1. Devotions: "Remember the happiest people are not those getting more, but giving more." How true. :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water 1/8
4. Exercise--Will do my weight exercises
5. Food--breakfast--eng. muffin and pb. lunch will be yogurt and almonds, an orange, maybe a lunchmeat roll-up. Dinner will be spaghetti and salad w/DD.
6. Scale-- :)

Have to get DD to school; will try to catch up soon.
E. :shamrock:

Edit: OK, had some revelations this morning as I was tidying up the house a bit. I'm not going to choir this evening. It's just too much for me. I have to work my long days on Wednesday and then on Thursday, have a day full of appointments and obligations on Friday (and won't get home 'til 7), have a full 8 hour work day on Saturday, and then will be in church from 8 a.m. 'til 12 on Sunday singing. I have to cut myself some slack. Now don't get me wrong--I enjoy choir and would like to go. I get a lot out of it, spiritually and emotionally. However, I have to set some boundaries for myself here. I'd be going to tonight because I don't want to let other people down and I don't want them to think badly of me. They're important and I care about their feelings, but let's look at this. I'm a 43 year old woman. I have to know what's best for myself and what my limits are. Constantly giving myself away, as if I don't have any limitations or am an energizer bunny is not good for myself. I have to take a stand here! :) I'm going to call the director now.
Thanks for letting me work this out here.

Today is March 16, 2005!

OK, call me Gumbie--I bend in whatever direction people want me to go. I called one of the directors and she informed me that I was needed to play the service on Sunday (but if I couldn't go to rehearsal, no problem). . .I decided to go to rehearsal so that I'd know what the heck was going on Palm Sunday morning. Oh, well. . .

It's a new day and I'm looking forward. I weighed in at 175 this morning. Not bad since I ate a whole bag of microwave popcorn before bed. My measurements are the same, except I lost -.5 from my waist.

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--1/8
4. Exercise--2 miles on the treadie :)
5. Food--slice of toast w/pb for breakfast. whopper jr. and small fry for lunch. I'll take some veggies and stuff for snacks throughout the day.
6. Scale--175, down a pound. :Pinkbounc

I'm off to take DD to school. :grouphug: to all,
Erin

:Pinkbounc Bye-bye pound!! :wave2: Makes you feel good to see that scale number go down, doesn't it?? Also, way to go with losing half an inch on your waist!! :cheer2: I was too chicken to face my scale this morning - congrats on being brave!

Life is all about trade-offs, isn't it? If you stayed home and rested last night, you would have paid for it dearly in more stress on Sunday morning - too high a price in my book. Hopefully you can look at your schedule over the next few days and find some time for a short stroll outside or a bubble bath or half an hour with a good book & Mickey curled up next to you. Take time for you, even if it's just 15 minutes.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday, WISH-sis!

Hey, everybody: it's Thursday! It's a long day for me, so I'm going to post this now and then won't be around 'til tomorrow.

Yesterday I finished the day with 5 smilies. I didn't give myself one for food 'cause of the B. King meal--that's OK.

Today's plan is as follows:

1. Devotions--will do this soon.
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water 1/8
4. Exercise--rest day
5. Food--toast w/1/2 banana and pb, coffee. Lunch and dinner will be a subway wrap w/some fruit thrown in throughout the day.
6. Scale-- :)

I've got to get to work. :grouphug: to everyone.

Today:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--have started
4. Exercise--a couple of miles on the treadie are planned
5. Food--slice of toast. No plans yet for lunch. Dinner will be out with DH.

Hey, everyone. It's Spring! :bounce: :flower3:

It seems to me that the last few days have gone by in a blur. Let's see what I've been doing. OK, well, Friday I didn't do a darn lick of exercise like I planned. I rested instead for an hour and it felt great! Friday afternoon I went to work and then out to dinner with DH where I had three--count 'em THREE--slices of sausage and pepper pizza. That was GREAT! :teeth: Not a darn bit of guilt, I'm telling ya. Came home and crashed at 8:30 p.m. Not exactly the most romantic night. :sad2:

Saturday I picked up DD at her friend's house at 8 a.m. and then went to work. After teaching in the a.m., I set up and ran two piano club programs for kids at the studio (with help from DH and DD). DD and I got out of there around 5 and headed for the mall to get a 1920's flapper costume! We ended up with a just-above-the-knee red satiny, flouncy nightgown, a red boa, a long string of pearls and high heels. Got home around quarter of 7--was zonked by 9. Know I didn't exercise, didn't drink enough water, and forgot all about my vitamins. Read my devotional, I think.

Today I was up at 6:30 to be at church by 8 for our three services. They were really nice. Now I'm in my big ole purple sweatpants and thinking about lunch. I don't know what I'm going to eat, but I guess it should be healthier than what I've been munching the last few days. Yogurt and fruit sounds good. Still, I weighed in this morning and was down a pound. I'm happy with that. :)

I'm not going to exercise today, even though there is a big part of me saying that I should. No, I'll go out and walk a couple of miles on the treadie tomorrow morning after DD heads off to school or maybe outside if the weather is nice. Today's a day for R and R. I may doodle around and do a little housework and my Easter cards, but that's about it. I think a nap in the green chair is seriously called for--in fact, if the truth be told, I hear DH snoring in a chair right now! Yeah, it was a long, hard week. It's good to observe the Sabbath.

I'm looking forward to this week--I only work Monday-Wednesday. Thursday I'm going to get our ducks in a row so that we can visit my mom for Easter, and then Friday we'll leave for a few days with her. It'll be nice to kick back a little.

So today the plan is to not have a plan! I'm off to fulfill my destiny! :teeth:

Good morning! It's March 21, 2005 :sunny: Today's the day that the Lord has made, I'm going to rejoice and be glad in it!

OK, today I have to have a healthy living plan because I really over did it on sugar and junk food and laying around yesterday. I have to say, though. . .it was wonderful! :p

1. Devotions--will read my Upper Room. Come to God like a child. :)
2. Vitamins-- :)
3. Water--about 6/8 glasses so far
4. Exercise--4 miles on the treadie. :)
5. Food--slice of pb toast and coffee, 1/2 orange for breakfast, yogurt, chili, and some bread
6. Scale--avoided it this morning.

I'm going to do a little housecleaning this a.m., exercise, and then consider what needs to be done before I head to work this afternoon.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning Erin!

The Lord brought you to mind a couple of days ago when I was reading a book called, Fill My Cup, Lord... with the Peace of Your Presence by Emilie Barnes. Have you ever read it? It is such a wonderful book that teaches us how to share our cup with the Lord and allow Him to fill it with His blessings. If you're a tea drinker like me, you will probably love this book! :teeth:

It sounds like you have a wonderful week ahead of you! It will be nice to have a short work week and then cap it off with a visit with your mom and the Easter celebration! I hope it is a week full of God's blessings for you, Erin!

:wave2: Thanks for stopping by, Doreen and Tracy. Tracy, the next time I'm in the Christian bookstore, I'll look for that book. It sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Here's the plan for today. Had :) :) :) :) :) :) yesterday.

1. Devotions: :) God knows what we need without us even asking.
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--4/8
4. Exercise--will do some strength training today. Took the DDog to the park and did a slloowww walk around a 1/4 to 1/2 mile loop. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, the air was brisk and clear. . .he and I both loved it. Strength training done. I actually kinda liked it. :)
5. Food--english muffin w/pb, yogurt and veggies, and salad and a roll at Saladworks. Maybe an apple or raisins.
6. Scale :) Holding at 174.

Got a lot done yesterday. I'm feeling positive and hopeful on this new Tuesday! :cool1: Could it be because vacation is around the corner?
DD has TONS on her plate today, though--any spare prayers can help her out!

:grouphug: to all,
Erin

Edit: Had a soft pretzel with my yogurt. Yum! Will have an apple this afternoon if I need it. I'm leaving at 5 today!

Today I'm wearing my size 12 blue pants, and you know what? I'm content with that. I'm not wearing my pink suit (size 10) this Easter, but that's OK, too. I'm feeling like I'm where I should be. I going to try to whittle down my weight bit by bit and if it happens, fine. If it doesn't, that's fine, too. I want to lead a healthy life, but I want to enjoy my life without feeling deprived or starved. I've decided to change my weigh-in morning to Sunday, because I'm going to keep Sunday my "free" day. Whatever I want to eat on Sundays is OK. After Easter I'm going to try to keep away from candy and sweets during the week.

Enough musings. I gotta get back to work. . .

Hi! It's Wednesday, March 23, 2005, and it's dreary and rainy today. Guess we'll have to make our own sunshine today. :sunny:

Here's the plan:

1. Devotions-- :)
2. Vitamins-- :)
3. Water--one glass
4. Exercise--2 miles on the treadie this a.m.
5. Food--english muffin w/pb, yogurt for lunch, tuna sandwich for dinner
6. Scale-- :)

I'd say yesterday was a 5 :) day; my food was a bit questionable when I got home last night. Did a little potato chip nibbling.

Today's a long full day. I'm going to try to get a couple of things done at home before I go around 9:15; I'll be home around 8:30. It's nice to know that I'll be off tomorrow!

Off and into the day--
Erin

Edit: had my tuna sandwich and some chips  for lunch, but didn't over do it. Am drinking too much coffee and diet coke today; as soon as this can's done, I'm going to drink water for the rest of the day. My yogurt and apple will be my snacks later.

Tonight I'll go home and watch Survivor and American Idol. It's a good TV night! :Pinkbounc

Sounds like your healthy living is going well at the moment - always a blessing! As long as you keep up with your treaddie and the weight-thingy (such scientific terms :p ) you should be able to be a little more easy-going about your food and indulge in the occasional potato chip nibble. ::yes::

03-23-2005, 08:18 AM
Hi, Doreen! Thanks for stopping by. Any help you can give me for getting those drearies away is appreciated.

OK, I've re-thought my exercise goal for today. I'm NOT walking 2 miles on the treadie. I was driving home from DDs school and I thought, "I have a very long day ahead. I don't need to walk two miles today. I can do some miles--2, 4, whatever--tomorrow when I'm off. I'll do some strength training, too, if I feel like it (on that weight thingy :) ). I don't have to be superwoman today. " Thinking like that might not seem a big deal to anyone, but for me it's a key part of setting realistic goals for myself.

Now I'm headed back into the day, looking Upward.

Good morning, everyone. This is my last post until Monday, probably. We're leaving shortly, and I still have a few things to do.

I earned 5 :) yesterday for water, vitamins, devotions, exercise (4 miles on the treadie), and the scale. Food was kind of a grey area. I probably ate more than I should have. I'm finding it hard to be particularly motivated in this area. What do they say? "The last 10 lbs. are the hardest to lose."

The plan for the weekend is to try to live a healthy lifestyle. Nothing new here, right? The hotel that we'll be at has a workout room. . .DH, DD, and I will use it and the pool, too. I've packed my devotional materials and will pack our vitamins, also. Food, though, is not something of concern this weekend. We'll be eating out a lot, may go to the movies and have popcorn. . .I know I'll enjoy whatever comes up on my plate! :p I'll assess the damage Monday morning on the scale, and then work to get my weight back down if it spikes up.

Like I said yesterday, I hope everyone has a nice Easter filled with hope and promise.

Love,
Erin

It's March 28, 2005! :)

It's rainy and cloudy here today, but the weather people say the sun is going to be out this week. :sunny: Now that's something to look forward to!

Today's "get back in the groove day". . .I have suitcases to unpack and laundry to do, plus I had to take the DDog to the vet this morning. While staying with the dogsitter, Mickey tore a nail. Now he's woozy and sporting a big red cast/bandage until Friday. There's always something going on!

I didn't get on the scale this morning. Honestly I just forgot in all the "get to school and to the vet" action. Ignoring the scale also gave me a chance to have a couple mini-Reese cups for my morning snack! :teeth: I'll get on it tomorrow, though, and get myself re-focused.

Here's today's plan:

1. Devotions: about forgiveness :)
2. Vitamins :) (took them on vacation, too)
3. Water: will try to drink more during the day and less in the evening. I was up three times in the night!
4. Exercise: Don't want to do this at all today, but 30 treadie minutes will do my stress level good, I think. While I PACKED the workout clothes, I never used them while away. I did walk a lot, though, in town.
5. Food: didn't eat too well while away--lots of good desserts. I'm giving myself a little more chocolate today, but will try to give it up tomorrow.
6. Scale: like I said, I forgot it in the morning rush.

Off and into the day, looking Upward to the source of my strength.

Good morning, everyone! I'm feeling fairly :sunny: this morning even though it's VERY cloudy and I was up a good chunk of the night with the dog. He was in a lot of pain and unable to sleep--just sat up and moaned a lot. I took him out in the night (after wrapping his bandage in a baggie and taping it up), but whether it was the rain or just the weirdness of it all, he didn't go.

Anyway, so I'm gearing up to face the day. I got smilies yesterday for devotions, vitamins, and water. Today's looking a little healthier:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--working on it
4. Exercise--I don't know what I'm going to do at this point. I might try to get some rest instead. Edit: grabbed a little nap when I came back from dropping off DD. No exercise on the agenda.
5. Food--I'm going to try to eat on a 3 hour schedule. Breakfast was a lo-carb english muffin w/pb, lunch was chips  and yogurt. Snack will be an apple, dinner will be at saladworks.
6. Scale--up to 175.

I've got to get DD to school; I'll do my best to stop around during the day.

March 30, 2005 Today is a Lamb Day! :sunny: The weather is sunny and spring-like and some flowers are beginning to sprout by our front door. :)

Yesterday was a :) :) :) :) :) day for everything but exercise. Thanks, everyone, for your concerns about Mickey--and for me. I'm tired again today, but such is life. One foot in front of the other will get me through the day.

The plan:

1. Devotional :)

5. Food--slice of peanut butter toast and 1/2 an orange for breakfast.
6. Scale--totally forgot this morning.

Today and tomorrow are long days. I'm just going to keep taking those baby steps to get me where I need to go. :grouphug: to you, Tracy, Amanda, Doreen, Jen, and Beth. I appreciate you stopping by to say hi! :)

Erin

Edit: McDonald's salad and a milkshake :p for lunch. Snack this afternoon will be a diet coke with lime and a soft pretzel. I walked over to Dunkin' Donut this morning and got a decaf and will walk to the pretzel bakery this afternoon. That counts for exercise, doesn't it? :cool1:

You know something? I think there's only one reason I really come here to journal every day--my friends here on the WISH. I know that I could keep track of my vitamins and exercise, etc. without this journal, but I would miss you all! Thank you for stopping by yesterday, Amanda, Tracy, Doreen, and Beth. I appreciate you so much.

Got a good night sleep last night :cloud9: and am now ready to take on the day. It'll be long, that's for sure, but you know what I'm thinking: Phil. 4:13!
Walking with baby steps and seeing the joy in the small things around me--that'll get me through.

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--uhh, have been drinking coffee instead.
4. Exericse--took little Mick to the park for 20 minutes. We both enjoy it so much!
5. Food--eng. muffin w/pb, packed a sandwich and a banana. Will get a soft pretzel for later
6. Scale--looked like 175.5. I'm not stressing it.

I've got to head to work, but please know that I'm thinking of you all today. :grouphug:

Today is April 1, 2005, and I'm not foolin'! :p Doesn't just the sound of the word invite images of warmer days, gentle showers, and blooming flowers? I love spring time in Pennsylvania.

Thank you Beth, Doreen, and Amanda for stopping by yesterday. You guys are so special to me. Your kindness helped lift me up through a long, but good day. This morning I'm happy to be home. I'm going to do some serious puttering around this morning before I walk on the treadie, get my hair cut, and then go to work. :) DD has a sleepover tonight, so DH and I are going out to dinner. It's been a stressful week for him, so it'll be good to have some time just the two of us to unwind.

Yesterday I earned :) :) :) for devotions, vitamins, and weighing in, but I don't think I drank enough water. I know I didn't eat right--had too many Cheez-its when I came home after work--and I took a rest day from exercise.

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--have started this already. I won't drink as much coffee today either.
4. Exercise--I'm planning on an hour on the treadie, but at a slow walk since TOM has arrived today.
5. Food--oh, I'm not stressing over this today. I'm going to try to eat lightly during the day, but I'll have whatever I want when we go out.
6. Scale :)

Two weeks from now I'm walking the OC Half Marathon with Doreen. I haven't trained enough. Knowing that causes me a certain amount of stress--I like to be prepared for things--but I know that I've done what I can do and that it's enough. Walking this half has become a symbol of something different for me. . .it's not about being a Jock Athlete Princess anymore--a 43 yr. old woman in the absolute tip-top of condition. Rather it's a celebration of my friendship with Doreen and my ability to take a risk, to just TRY, and know that whatever happens is OK. In the beginning, when I was thinking of going to WDW for the Jan. half, it was all about the task--about being in shape. I wanted my DD to see that you could do anything you set your mind to--train hard, "win" hard, no matter what your age. I felt that way in Jan. when I decided to do this half, too, but now it's different. I've had to accept the fact that I have limits--in time and in energy. Now I think my DD will see that I'm going to do the OC Half for fun, not having to be "perfect" at it, and maybe that will allow her, some time in her life, to take on a challenge even if she's unsure of the outcome, even if she's sweating it out at the back of the pack. :p

OK, well, I think that's enough deep thinking for this morning. . . :p
I'm moving onward and always looking Upward--
Erin

You know, I like your attitude about the OC Half. I haven't trained nearly enough but I'm going to go and walk and whatever happens, happens. Either way, whether we cross the finish line or board the sweeper bus, we'll do it together and enjoy the experience! :hyper2: We'll celebrate friendship and staying active and doing our best, whatever the outcome. We'll make some good memories that we can cherish for a lifetime.

Hey girl - I know I didn't train enough for the Disney Marathon - Doe and Meme blew me away with their energy and stamina. But I was still able to go the distance and finish it. Just remember it is not a sprint! Make sure to hydrate yourself whenever they offer drinks and find out if there is going to be food offered anywhere along the route. :badpc: I had computer problems this morning and didn't get a chance to get back on until now! It was a weird change of routine! My house is much cleaner for it, though, I have to admit. :p

I really didn't do much with my goals over the weekend. Oh, I walked a bit, and I took my vitamins yesterday, but I pretty much ate whatever I wanted. I didn't get on the scale this morning, but I know it's got to be up. Tomorrow I'll look it bravely in the eye!

For today:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--really trying to make an effort here
4. Exercise--walked a short 1.25 mile with Mickey this a.m., hope to get out and walk a bit more before work. I won't go until all the laundry is put away, though. I'm NOT dealing with laundry stress this weekend!
5. Food--I had an English muffin w/pb for breakfast, a couple of bites of banana, and some OJ and coffee. For lunch I'm going to have a sandwich; snack later will be some yogurt and some grapes. Dinner, when I get home around 8:30, will be soup and crackers. I'm going to try to keep drinking that water during the day. I can't have any now, though; I'm wearing whitening strips for my teeth! :teeth:
6. Scale--oops, forgot it! Really, I did!

Hey, it's Tuesday, 4/5/05

Well, seems we had alarm clock malfunction in our house today--DD's clock and mine both! So, since DD had study hall 1st period, we decided to have a quick breakfast at Dunkin Donut! You know what they say: when life gives you lemons. . .

Yesterday was a great day! I got tons done around the house (including all the laundry! :) ) and that gave me a sense of peace going into the work week.
With the time change, I still felt energized at the end of the day and felt like I gave my students the best of me, even at 8 p.m.

Today I'll be in at 10 a.m., home around 6, and then off to choir at 7. I'm going to try to leave choir at a decent hour--I want to be home and relaxing by 8:30! After all, American Idol is on tonight!

The plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--working on it.
4. Exercise--walked Mickey for the 1.25 mile loop
5. Food--muffin and coffee for breaksfast. I'll plan lunch while I'm in the shower.
6. Scale--not too bad, all things considered! :)

Edit: McDonald's salad for lunch
Have to go now,
Erin

Good morning! It's a :sunny: Wednesday, but I can't really say I'm ready to take on the day. . .I'd kind of like to stay home, but I'm going to head on out to work and try to give the day my best. It's a long day.

Let's see, yesterday I did OK with my healthy living. My food choices weren't the best, but they were all right. I wanted to do some recreational eating when I got home from choir, but I didn't.

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--have started drinking
4. Exercise--Mickey and I walked the 1.25 mile loop and soaked up the sunshine.
5. Food--english muffin w/pb, lunch will be a sandwich and an apple. Snack will be a pretzel. Dinner? I'll see. . .
6. Scale--176 this morning.

Geez, it's almost 1 p.m. and I'm just getting to my journal! Yikes! Where has my day gone?

Well, actually, I got DD off to school, walked Mickey in the park, had a drs. appointment, went to the Christian bookstore for a birthday gift, and then headed to KMart. DH and I went to pick up lunch at Subway, and now I'm getting ready to start teaching at 1. I didn't teach at the preschool this morning, so the whole day is much more manageable. It's when I have to begin at 8:30 and end at 7:30 that it wears me down.

SO, let's see about the plan.

1. Hmmm, looks like I forgot devotions, though I did get a new devotional at the Christian bookstore. Guess I'll read them tonight. Just being in the bookstore, though, fills me with God's peace. I also felt Him sitting on my shoulder in the park and at the dr. :goodvibes
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--need to push this this afternoon
4. Exercise--did my friendly 1.25 w/Mickey. I was going to strength train, but just didn't have time.
5. Food--english muffin w/pb, 1/2 chicken bacon wrap, baked lays, 1 cookie. Dinner will probably be the other 1/2 of the c.b. wrap, some rye toast, and a hard-boiled egg. I know, it sounds weird, but to me it's appealing! :p
6. Scale--175. :)

That's it for today.

You were very productive today! I am impressed. Your dinner doesn't sound weird to me. If it appeals to you, it will satisfy you. That is half the battle, sweetie.

Good morning! Let the Friday party start! :rockband: :flower1:

Thanks Beth and Doreen for coming by my journal yesterday; I appreciate your visits.

Yesterday I did OK, all things considered. I got home at 8 and was pooped, so I watched "Survivor" with my family and then headed to bed to watch "The Apprentice." By 10:15 I was on my way to dreamland.

Let's see how things are shaping up for today:

1. Devotions :) It's the simple things that give us pleasure.
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--had a little bit
4. Exercise--did a short little walk with Mickey; that's all I have time for today.
5. Food--had an English muffin early this a.m.; I'm having another breakfast  out with a friend.
6. Scale--getting weighed at the drs. was enough yesterday!

I've got a full day ahead: breakfast out, early dismissal for DD, have to go to KMart again, have to pick up dog's pills at vet, will teach this afternoon and early evening. Plans for tonight include watching chick flicks and crocheting--maybe starting some laundry. . .

I'm moving out into the day and looking Upward!

Oooh, I love it when friends come to visit! Thanks, Amanda, Pealieq, and Tracy! I finished yesterday with smilies for devotions, water, exercise, and vitamins. :) :) :) :) I ate WAY too much--I went out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! :p BUT, today is a brand new day, and I'm planning on eating a little lighter today. :p

So, last night I had the night to myself: I had a candy bar and 2 slices of pepperoni pizza for dinner, walked the dog and enjoyed the beautiful sunset, ran to KMart as planned, took a shower, and crawled into bed to watch "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason." DH came home in time for the end of it. . .I don't think he felt like he missed much! It was good, though, to have some time to myself to relax.

This morning I'm on my way to work. DD has a dentist appointment around noon. After that I'll be home puttering around with the laundry, but I have definite plans to get out and walk in the sunshine. :sunny: I can't believe that one week from now I'll be doing the OC walk! YIKES!

The plan remains the same:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water
4. Exercise--I'm thinking a couple of miles will do me good.
5. Healthy food--lite multi-grain english muffin w/pb
6. Scale--OK, I'll get on it now. . .

Off and into the day, thanking God for His many, many blessings--
Erin

Erin, our days sound similar. :p

Think of me as you're walking a couple miles in the sun and doing laundry - both are on my list today too.

A friend of mine is doing a half marathon in New York City tomorrow. She has compiled a list of 13 people/families and will be thinking of and praying for one of them during each mile. I thought this was a great idea and am thinking of coming up with my own list of 13 for next Saturday. I think it might help the miles go by faster. Just wanted to give you something to think about while you walk today. :)

I hope you're feeling refreshed as you step into your busy day. Last night's evening alone sounds heavenly!! It's nice to see you taking time to pamper yourself. ::yes:: You give so much to so many others.

Oh, man, it's Monday, and I never did do the darn laundry. I HATE having laundry stress during the week, but the truth is: you play, you pay! :p

Actually, yesterday, I didn't really play. . .I went to church, picked up some groceries (just a few), cleaned up a little, took a short walk in the beautiful :sunny: , made a salad, and then went to visit my in-laws. There just wasn't laundry time! I couldn't sacrifice my walk in the :sunny: now, could I? :p

So now I've got to figure out what to do with today. I walked Mickey for .5 mile, and I've decided I'm going to go to another park for a little more. I think it'll ease my mind re: the half this weekend if I get out there and do a few miles. I checked the OC weather forecast, and it's supposed to be sunny and a high of 51 for Saturday. :Pinkbounc

Yesterday I'd say I got all my goals in except water and food. I'm going to try to cut back on sugar this week. Maybe that's not a good idea, though, with the half coming up? Maybe I should allow myself a few chocolate bars for carbs? :teeth: Any advice on eating that you experienced walkers might have would be helpful.

Goals for today are the usual:

1. Devotions :) I read the same one on giving, Doreen.
2. Vitamins--not yet. Better go take them
3. Water--had a glass; will take some on my walk
4. Exercise--walked .5 with Mickey, plan on two times around the 2.33 course.
5. Food--english muffin w/pb, fresh pinapple for breakfast
6. Scale--why do I keep "forgetting" this??????

OK, I'm rolling. I'm moving onward and looking Upward!

Carbs - good.
Chocolate - bad.

Yes you should eat healthy carbs with lots of fiber like Whole Wheat Bread. And you may want to the morning of the walk eat a bannana to increase you potasium levels. You and Doe are going to have so much fun this weekend! I wish I could be there with you guys!

Thank you for your support in my journal.

I've stopped in to answer your questions about the half.

I'm planning to wear my walking sneakers, one pair of Cool Max socks, shorts, sweatpants, t-shirt, sweatshirt and, most importantly, my pink princess: hat. I'll take along a bottle of water on a Disney bottle strap. I don't think I'll bother with sunscreen. We're starting at 7:30 and will be off the course before noon. I'm afraid sunscreen mixed with sweat would feel icky. I may wear my fanny pack to hold the hotel room key, a few dollars and the digital camera. I tend to travel pretty light.

If the forecast is calling for chilly weather in the early morning, I'll have a large garbage bag with holes for my arms and head. It may look stupid but it will keep the wind and chill away prior to the start of the race, plus I can sit on it without getting my clothes dirty. We should plan to be at the start area around 6:30 AM for that last potty break. We must be in the start corral by 7:15 AM but I'd like to be there a few minutes earlier. If you're planning on checking any bags, we'll need to add extra time for that - I won't have anything to check.

My eating this week will be as normal as possible. I'll indulge in a few extra carbs on Thursday and Friday. I'll be careful to eat food that won't give me any "problems" on Friday evening - I think Mexican food is out. :p I'll eat a banana and a muffin on race morning around 5:30 AM. I'll drink a minimum of water prerace. I don't want to have to make too many potty breaks before and during the race. :p I will start drinking water and Gatoraide during the race in moderate amounts at the water stations.

I will buy some Tylenol 8 hour and take it with my banana and muffin at 5:30 AM. I'll have enough for both of us so you don't have to pack any. If you plan to take any pain meds, make sure you're taking Tylenol (acetominophen). Aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen are not good choices - will have to do some research to remember why though.

I'll plan to stay over Saturday evening. I think your DH is right. I'm an early riser so if we have to get up extra early to head home on Sunday, it will be no problem for me. My DH often likes to start trips at 3 AM. :teeth:

My SEPTA schedule says I'll be in Willow Grove at 11:13 AM on Friday (don't you love how they're so precise??? :p) I'll plan on having lunch with you and then heading south. I'm praying like crazy for warm and sunny weather for all three days!

Love ya, WISH-sis!

4. Exercise--I'm sore from pushing it yesterday; I walked Mickey about .5 mile.
5. Food--english muffin w/pb and banana, coffee, lunch will probably be yogurt and veggies, dinner will be at saladworks.
6. Scale--back to 175 this a.m. :)

I woke up extra early this morning and didn't fall back to sleep--guess it's just a little pre-race anxiety and excitement. I've got to work to keep this in its proper perspective. This is a fun girls' weekend--not the defining moment of my life!!!

OK, I'm going to make the beds and do the dishes then get ready for work. Erin

Morning Erin! I remember feeling that anxiety before the race in January. Of course I just hopped over the Magic Kingdom to ease my nerves. Think you could get to Disney later this week? ;)

You are going to do Great! Don't stress out over the small stuff, just enjoy the moment and fulfillment of finishing 13.1 miles! TO MILE 9!!!!

Dear WISH-sis,

Please try your best not to stress about Saturday. In the words of John "The Penguin" Bingham, world famous runner "The miracle isn't that I finished....the miracle is that I had the courage to start." In his book, Marathoning for Mortals, he talks about the fact that just getting to the start line is cause for celebration. You can't control what happens during the half so don't stress about it. Getting to the start line is more than most people ever even attempt and you are a winner already, because you've dreamed the dream and showed up to do your best. That's exactly what we'll do, Erin. We'll show up and see what happens and celebrate that we were gutsy enough to try!

I got some very helpful info from another DISer about my connection at 30th St Station. I MAY be able to make it to Willow Grove at 10:13, an hour earlier, if my Amtrak train is on time. Should I even try? I'll have my cell phone so I can call and let you know if I make the earlier train but if that doesn't work with your schedule I can just stay at 30th St and read a good book and get to Willow Grove at 11:13 as planned. So many decisions!

It's Wednesday and we're more than halfway through our workweek. We can make it!! I hope you have a wonderful day! :sunny:

I was wondering about Melanie. . .hey, the more the merrier. :flower:

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--two glasses down, more to go
4. Exercise--walked 1.25 in the crisp cold morning with Mickey. :)
5. Food--usual english muffin w/banana, 1.25 cups of coffee (no more caffeine for the day!), and a glass of milk. Later today I'll have a soft pretzel, some yogurt, some fruit, and maybe eggs and toast for dinner.
6. Scale-- :) about 175.5 today

I'm coming home an hour early tonight. . .I have two kids who are out, and I didn't reschedule anyone into their time slots. Tomorrow I have to work at the preschool in the a.m., so it's going to be a megalong day. . .I figure that leaving early tonight is a little gift to myself!

I won't be able to get around to other journals, I don't think, so let me send this little :grouphug: to everyone. You're in my thoughts and prayers--

Morning Erin! I hope you are feeling less stressed about the half today. Trust me - you will finish it. Maybe Doe can answer this but is the OC walk as strict on time limits as the WDW one? The WDW was a bit on the stressful side due to the threat of sweepers. But I know the one here in St. Louis in September is not like that at all - and will be a much more relaxed pace. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will cross the finish line - I promise!!!

Thanks, Amanda and Tracy. I AM feeling better about the half today. I think it's because I've decided what the victory is: just going and trying something I've never done before when I'm uncertain of the outcome. I'm not always a risk taker.

The OC Half has a 17 minute mile time limit. We have 3 hours and 45 minutes. :cool1:

:sunny: Good morning, princess: Erin! :sunny:

We're going to :boat: through today and off into a weekend of fun!

If you get a chance, could you read post #179 in your journal and let me know what you think about me getting there a bit earlier tomorrow? It's totally up to you and if you want to have the free time in the morning to get packed, etc. then I can just make sure I'm there at 11:13. If you want to get an earlier start then I'll try to make it at 10:13. Doesn't matter to me.

Let all the stress go and plan on having a good time. No worries!

Have a wonderful day, dear Erin!! :sunny:

Hey, everyone. This is my last post before I leave tomorrow for the OC Half with Doreen. I'm thinking we're both winners before we even go--we've both had our share of "stuff" to deal with lately and just making time for ourselves and trying this adventure is the victory. As she said from her John Bingham book, "the miracle isn't that I finished. . .the miracle is that I had the courage to start." That sums it up right there!

Thank you, everyone, for your love and support the last few days as I've looked this challenge in the eye. I love you all and thank you sincerely. :grouphug:

Well, I'm back from the OC Half, and it was an amazing and fun experience! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: Doreen, Melanie, and I had such a good time!

Here's a brief run-down of our trip:

I picked Doreen up at a nearby train station on Friday afternoon and we headed down to OC. We stayed at a sweet little motel/motor lodge called the "Francis Scott Key Motel." It was about .2 mile from the start of the race--very convenient. Friday night we picked up our packets--it was so cool to get our T-shirts and numbers! I felt very official! We picked up some commemorative (is that how you spell it?) pins--it was, after all, the "inaugural" marathon in OC, so we picked up pins as souvenirs. Mine is now sitting proudly on my princess hat. After our sign in, we ate dinner at Applebees and then shopped around the outlets a bit, which happened to be oh-so-conveniently across the street from the hotel. We came back to our room, put on our jammies, and hit the hay pretty early.

We woke up around 5 and were at the starting point to get our chips by 6:15. We sat on my mylar poncho (bought the day before) and waited to see Mel; we talked to a guy who was going to run back to back marathons--one on Saturday in OC and one on Sunday in NJ--while we waited. These runners are amazing and interesting people! We ran into so many nice people during the weekend--there was a real feeling of friendship and shared purpose. The race started a bit late, but the Mel, Doreen, and I were off and walking by about 7:37-7:40.

The course was really beautiful and quite unlike the big city and WDW half marathons. There were never lines for port-a-potties. It had a real small town feeling to it that was very comforting for a "country" girl like myself. (I may live in the Philly area, but I was raised in rural upstate PA and it's a fact that you can't take the country out of the girl, let me tell you.) The scenery was beautiful and the views from the top of the bridge at Assateague were breathtaking. Of course, it was all we could do to stay standing, but it was lovely, just the same. Like Doreen said, the ponies were waiting for us on the other side of the bridge, and the finish wasn't too far away.

Doreen and I ran for the finish hand in hand and Mel and her family were there to greet us and take us back to the start at the marina. I got a hamburger and some chips (OK, I confess, I got a donut, too), and headed back up to the room. I felt so proud of us! It was such a challenge, yet so much fun!
Amanda called us before we went to bed, and you could tell she shared our sense of victory and accomplishment. It was so nice to talk to you, Amanda. Your call was special to both Doreen and me.

So, this morning we headed home and now Doreen and I are both back to our real lives--laundry, school and work tomorrow--you all know the drill. Everything's back to normal, but something's a little different. We're jock athlete princess: princess: ! :p

Today I'm back to the routine:

1. Devotions: :) Today's thought is "look for an opportunity to make a positive difference." :)
2. Vitamins: Will take them after I have some blood work done at the lab. :) Done When you're over 40 you've gotta check the old cholesterol and blood sugar!
3. Water: I'm at about 4 glasses so far.
4. Exercise: will walk Mickey the 1.25 in the morning :sunny:
5. Food: I really just ate whatever I wanted over the weekend--I've got to cut back this week some. Edit: I'm not doing the greatest, but I know it could be worse. So far today I've had grapenuts w/banana, a glass of milk, coffee w/half and half, and a small buffalo chicken salad. I'm also going to have yogurt (nonfat) and some goldfish crackers for my teaching snack (eaten in bites between as students come and go from my room!).
6. Scale: YIKES! :)

I'm still doing the weekend laundry, but I'm not stressing over it. It'll get done. Other than some more housework and washing the dog, I'm free until this afternoon when I go to work.

Have a good day, everyone!

Well, it's Tuesday and the :sunny: is shining all over! Thanks for stopping by
Tracy, Amanda, and Doreen!

Today in a nutshell:

1. Devotions: :) I read the one about Jonah, too, Doreen.
2. Vitamins :) Not only did I take them, I placed them in the little case for the whole week!
3. Water: have had about 16 oz. so far.
4. Exercise: Mickey and I walked about a mile in the park. :)
5. Food: have had a banana, a glass of milk, and coffee w/1/2 and 1/2 so far. I think I'll go down now and have a lite English muffin w/pb. Lunch will be a sandwich and an apple or orange. Snack will be some yogurt. Dinner will most likely be a salad at Saladworks. It's Tuesday, after all! :)
6. Scale: Today the scale said 177. Hmmm, I'm not overly thrilled with that.
I've been thinking about my weight since the half, and I really do want to get down to 164. I think that'll be an easier weight to carry when I do my next half! :p Did you guys know there are only 151 days until the Jefferson Distance Run on September 18th? Not that I'm interested or anything. . .

I'm feeling good since the Half. I read in Doreen's John Bingham book that finishing the half entitles me "to plan"--my next adventure, my next long distance event, whatever--and I'm enjoying being in that place where there are possibilities open to me. Goals, dreams. . .they're so important, aren't they? I don't necessarily want to commit to anything right now--I just want to stay in the "maybe" phase for awhile!

I doubt I'm going to get around to many more journals today. I've got to leave for work soon and then will have choir tonight, so this will probably be my last post.

:grouphug: to all,
Erin

Okay, so you are unhappy with your weight, what are you going to do to get to your desired goal? Step up the exercise? Watch your points again?

You will feel better if you make a plan. Maybe that plan is only for one week. Example: This week I am going to eat within my points everyday. Then next week it could be : I am going to walk 3 miles everyday. I know you will find the inspiration to get those extra pounds off. The last 10 are always the hardest to lose ;) Have a great day - and know that I'm thinking about you and sending :goodvibes your way.

Hey, everybody! Thanks for stopping by yesterday Melanie, Amanda, and Doreen. Today's a brand new day--am I ready for it? :flower:

Today's plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--will get started soon.
4. Exercise--1.25 with Mickey before work
5. Food--raisin bran, glass of milk, 1/2 decaf coffee  and creamer.
Lunch was a salad from McD., snack was a lite yogurt. So far so good.
6. Scale--177 :)

OK, Amanda, I hear the challenge and here's my plan of attack on my weight.
This week (or at least what's left of it), I'll leave out sweets and try to have good carbs rather than a lot of white bready stuff. I wish I could say this was MY idea, but it's not. It's my doctor's. She called me yesterday to give me the results of my blood work. . .and my blood sugar's a tiny bit higher than it should be. Since diabetes runs in my family, I have to get on top of this right away, so no sweets for 3 months, except for (as she put it) "special occasions." Do Wednesdays count as special?? :teeth: For the next week I'm going to log ALL of my food, either here or in my appointment book, and do some easy exercising. Next week, I'll have a new plan. One thing at a time.

I'm off into the day. It's a long one!

Erin

Edit: I've been drinking the water--that's good. I've been eating in a healthy way--that's good. I've been wanting some yummy chocolate--not good. Thank goodness for sugarless gum!

Good morning, Erin! :sunny:

Here we are at Thursday already! How are you holding up this week? I'm not quite at the top of my game yet. We have to remember, we're still recovering from our big event last Saturday, so go easy on yourself, OK?

I'm sorry to hear the report from the doctor about your blood sugar level. Diabetes runs in my family too. Remember, baby steps will help you cut back on those foods that are not helpful. All things in moderation. You're doing so many things to help yourself - all the water, healthy foods, exercise, cutting back on your schedule to reduce your stress - it all helps.

Take a moment today to hold your OC medal and remember what a strong woman you are, even when you don't feel strong.

I'm blessed to have you as a friend, dear Erin.

Love ya, WISH-sis :hyper2:

04-21-2005, 08:49 AM
Oh, Doreen, thank you for your post. I can feel your :goodvibes all around me.

I'm smiling inside today because I'm STILL IN MY BATHROBE! :teeth: I took today off because DD has off from school, and it felt absolutely DELICIOUS to not have to wake up with the alarm clock. OK, so I woke up at 6:45, but I didn't get out of bed until 7:15, and did I mention, I'M STILL IN MY BATHROBE?
We don't have any specific plans for the day, and that makes it even better. Today is our oyster and we can do whatever we want! DH and I talked about going into the city (Phila.) to a museum or the zoo or maybe going out to Longwood Gardens. . .DD doesn't know anything about our "maybe" plans, so if we change our minds and decide to just bum around, she won't be disappointed. We didn't get home from DD's concert last night until almost 10 p.m., so it feels especially good not to be locked into a schedule (and to BE IN MY BATHROBE!!! :p )

So, I've been doing some thinking about this prediabetes thing ('cause that's what it officially is). . .and I actually feel quite at peace with it. I watched my dad struggle with diabetes for so many years and it took such an awful toll on his body. He died at 68 with renal failure. Here I am, at 43, and I almost have to smile--it's like I knew it was coming. I think losing the weight I did last year and exercising have helped me avoid it, but it's part of my future unless I take an active roll in caring for myself. I'm grateful for this little "wake up call" and a chance to be proactive in warding off this disease.

I can't really explain the wellness journey that I feel like I'm on right now. I've struggled these last couple of months with stress and anxiety and burnout. . .but I feel like I'm in a positive place and I'm learning new skills and new attitudes that are preparing me for the next phase of my life. While I was trying to have good health habits before, I really haven't been leading a well balanced life--one that took "me"--and my body's limits into consideration. I can't speak for everyone, but I know so many women who--like me--lose a bit of themselves because they're caring for home, family, and older parents, while trying to work and have a meaningful career and contribute to the community through church or other volunteer positions.
I feel like the prediabetes issue is just another thing that's MAKING me take time to nurture myself in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the day to day.
It's another thing that is telling me I MUST take the time to eat right, to exercise, and to prepare myself for wellness as I get older. I don't mean to sound pollyanna-ish, but I feel like it's all good. :goodvibes

In my life there are two women--my mother and my mother-in-law--who are huge examples of how to go forward into my middle and senior years. My mother-in-law has a multitude of health problems which are, quite frankly, a result of her inability to be proactive and to care for herself. The reasons why she chose not to exercise or eat right are not apparent and I don't want to judge her, but she's a person who will see the cup half empty and be certain she can never fill it up. My mother, on the other hand, is the opposite. As early as I can remember, she tried to eat right, was always physically active (not in a gym, but outside mowing the lawn, doing trimming, etc., etc.) and even now, at 81 gets up each morning, reads the paper and does her crossword puzzles (to keep her mind sharp) and then takes a morning and afternoon walk. She walks up and down 3 flights of stairs in her assisted living facility rather than take the elevator and she's up and down those stairs 3-6 times a day! When I look at these two women, I feel like I've been given clear examples of what and what not to do, and I'm grateful to see which way I want to live!

Like Doreen says, the idea is moderation. There isn't really anything I need to "fix"--it's more like I have stuff to "tweak." :) I need to continue to evaluate my work situation, I need to eat a healthier diet (boy, am I glad, Doreen, that I had the two scoop sundae at Dumsers! :p ), and I need to continue to find fitness challenges that are fun and attainable. I need to seek out support from my family and from my friends--and this, of course, brings me to the WISH. What would I do without you guys--all of you who support me in leading a healthy life? You're amazing and I am so blessed to have you in my life. :grouphug:

OK, that's enough deep thinking. I've got to get down to the nitty-gritty. :p

1. Devotions--like Doreen says in her journal today. :)
2. Vitamins-- :)
3. Water--1/8 down
4. Exercise--will walk a 2.33 loop today.
5. Food--yesterday I stunk at this. By the end of the day I'd eaten 2 soft pretzels, a slice of pizza at 9:30, and then cereal at 10:00. So much for controlling the carbs! This morning I wanted to have an egg or two, but we didn't have any, so I had my lite multi-grain english muffin w/pb. Lunch will be heavier on the protein. Snacks will include my milk and my yogurt. Dinner is still up in the air.
6. Scale--didn't go there this a.m.

So, that's my Thursday plan. I'll try to exercise a little more and eat a little better. I'm feeling tired after my long day yesterday, but I'm ready to take on the day, step by step.

Erin

Bragger! What I wouldn't give for my comfy Grand Floridian Bath Robe right now!

As someone who also has diabetes running in her family I know exactly what you are talking about. My Dad was recently diagnosed and he has had to make major changes in his life. In many ways it has been a blessing - he takes better care of himself, and it gives him a goal to keep his blood sugar down everyday. He even mentioned to me how he gets his lowest readings after bowling night. I'm thinking for Father's Day he is going to get some stretch bands to exercise with.

I think perhaps your diagnoses will also be a blessing in disguise. Not to mention gives you a chance to teach your children healthy eating habits as well, because they may have to deal with this in the future as well. There are great books available on diabetes on Amazon.com that I've been looking at. I'll try to get the titles to you later.

Exercise really helps maintain a lower blood sugar level, so those daily walks with Mickey are a definate help.

I am so very proud of you for recognizing what needs to be done and taking the steps to do them.

Hi Erin,

Thanks for your post today. I enjoyed your example of your MIL and mom. How true that we see people in our daily lives that show us what paths we could take. How great for you to know that you have more than one path to take. You doing the 1/2 marathon was one of those forks in the road. The road you took opened new doors that you will discover for many years to come. I really believe that you cross that finish line with a new sense of yourself and the things you can do. No one will ever be able to take that away from you and it will give you courage to take oportunities that will help you in your quest for staying healthy.

I'm so glad that the Dr's were able to tell you that you have Pre Diabetes so that you can take that knowledge and use it to better yourself. So many people never get tested till its too late.

I hope you had a wonderful healthy happy day with your family. You so deserve the "robe" time this morning. I know that felt good!!

4. Exercise--took Mickey for a stroll, but didn't get my 2.33 in. I'll do that tomorrow. I did take a walk at the K of P Mall, though, and also went on a short ramble with my family at Valley Forge.
5. Food--had the breakfast I posted above, then a chinese chicken salad for lunch. Dinner was. . .well, uhhh. . .how can I say it so it sounds healthy?. . .uhh, popcorn. I know, I know, high in those carbs, but I didn't have candy! :teeth:
6. And you all know I didn't get on the scale.

So, overall, not the worst of healthy living days, but not the best food-wise. We had a great day, though. We went to King of Prussia Mall, did a little spring shopping, had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, went to Valley Forge National Park, and then went to see "Aliens of the Deep," a 3D Imax movie. It was a great family day. Now I'm going to put my bathrobe back on :p and go watch our family shows: Survivor and Apprentice.

Good night, all--

:sunny: It's Friday! And it's April 22, 2005 And I'm here in my bathrobe again! :cloud9: DD has off from school so I just got up at 7:30!

OK, so I was a little bit of a bragger yesterday  , Amanda, but today I'll mind my manners: enough of me in my bathrobe. :p I've got to get my plan in place:

1. Devotions--will set aside some quiet time for myself and my cup of coffee.
2. Vitamins--will take these with breakfast
3. Water--have already had a glass. I'm going to try to get these in early in the day so I don't have to get up so much in the night any more.
4. Exercise--first I'll take Mickey for a walk and then I'll take DD! :teeth:
5. Food--english muffin w/pb for breakfast, lunch will be a tuna sandwich on rye, dinner will be pizza probably. I'll try to get a yogurt in for snack as well as 2 8 oz. glasses of milk.
6. Scale--176 this a.m. :)

I've got to head into work later this afternoon (I rescheduled lessons so I could be home with DD longer), so I'm going to try to get in a little light housework this morning. . .maybe get a head start on my laundry?

Off and into the day, moving forward step by step and constantly looking Upward--

Edit:1. :)
2. :)
3. water 3/8
4. walked 3.78 :)
5. still on track as of 12:10

Erin, I think these easy-going days are doing you a world of good! ::yes:: Your posts are giving off peaceful and contented :goodvibes . I hope you can work these kinds of days into your schedule more often. :cloud9:

Yesterday sounded just perfect. I knew DD would find a way to get her shopping in there. :p

Way to go in facing the scale! The number looks fine to me. Your dinner last night was just fine! When going to the IMAX, one MUST have popcorn! ::yes:: Well, at least that's my opinion.

Blessings to you this day and every day.

Erin, if you go to your very first post in your journal and edit it, I believe you can also edit the title.
END OF TECH SUPPORT MOMENT :p

Last weekend was amazing, wasn't it? I truly enjoyed every moment of it, especially getting to know you better. I bet we WERE crying last week at this time, driving down the highway with tissues in hand, and you know what? It felt good!

If you change your mind about St. Louis, you just say the word, WISH-sis, and we can be off on another adventure! ::yes:: The course in St. Louis closes after....get this.....8 hours!! We could stop for LUNCH and still make it! :teeth:

Oh, and thanks for supporting me in my "Barry Manilow" mood! :cloud9:

Hi, everyone. I have just about one minute here and then my students start coming. . .

It's Saturday and I've got a plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--one glass down
4. Exercise--strength training today and a short treadie walk--it's raining. :umbrella:
5. Food: cereal for breakfast, coffee, and milk, tuna sandwich for lunch
6. Scale: holding steady :)

Yesterday was a good day healthy-living wise; I'm looking forward to the same today!

Erin

Edit: had some more water, walked Mickey instead of the treadie--it stopped raining. Had some peanuts for a snack.

Hi Ern,

First, I wanted to congratulate you on finishing the 1/2 marathon. I m orry I wasn't around to celebrate your success. You are an incredible woman. You continue to inspire me.

As for the prediabetes thing I think that you have a great attitude about it. THere hae been amazing improvements in diabetes management. The drugs have improved dramatically, and so has the patient education. I know that you will be very proactive in your health, so you will be one of the people who manage ther diabetes AND have a full and healthy life. You need to focus on you for while. You just did half marathon. You can certainly kick the hell out of diaetes.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Hey, everyone. It's Sunday, April 24, 2005.

I'm not feeling particularly motivated today to do anything except sit and read. I don't want to clean, don't want to fold laundry, don't want to exercise. . .you hear what I'm saying? I did get up and out the door by 8:30 to get to church and then ran and got some produce--that sounds like a lot to accomplish, doesn't it? :p Yeah, that might be plenty!

Here's how it's looking today:

1. Devotions--went to church. :)
2. Vitamins--some how forgot these. I'll go take them in a minute
3. Water--haven't had enough. Better go drink some.
4. Exercise-- Does reading about it count? I'm deep into the "Marathoning for Mortals" book.
5. Food--not doing to great carb-wise today. I had toast and a glass of milk for breakfast and two hard pretzels when I came home from the church and store. Better get some protein in there soon.
6. Scale--down to 175. :) I need it to read 174 so that I can match my tracker!

I promised myself that I'd get out there and do some strength training this afternoon. I guess I need to be more specific: I'll go and do it at 1 p.m. That gives me some laying around time, but should get my butt moving in the right direction.

I'm getting that water and the vitamins--

April 25, 2005

I finished yesterday with :) :) :) :) :) ; I ate way too much to get one for my food. My exercise was strength training--it felt good!

Today's plan: (edited as I go)

1. Devotions: :) "We pray for a generous spirit so that others will see God through our actions."
2. Vitamins: :)
3. Water: 6/8
4. Exercise: I'm going to try the "3 min. walk, 1 min. run for 32 minutes" plan
in the Marathoning for Mortals book. Will I be able to do this??? :)
5. Food: multigrain english muffin w/pb. and coffee for breakfast. Snack #1 was 1/2 a grapefruit. Lunch was a sandwich and some fresh veggies. Snacks will be milk, yogurt, and fruit. Dinner will be scrambled eggs and toast.
6. Scale: :) 177 this a.m.; lots of salt yesterday.

Lots to do today--I'm off into the day!

Erin

Edit #1: Got lots of housework done this morning, but would someone please tell me why it never seems to be enough? The more I clean the more I find that NEEDS to be cleaned! Yikes, what a job. Still I feel good about what I accomplished and can at least enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Edit #2: Oh, hey, I loved my walk/run! It was fun and interesting! The real interesting part was when it started raining, but me, being the Jock Athlete princess: that I am, kept on going. :umbrella: Then it started hailing, and me? Well, I high-tailed it outta there and went home to my treadie! A princess: can only take so much, you know.

I'm proud of you for getting your strength training in yesterday! It DOES feel good to work those muscles, doesn't it? Best wishes for a good walk/run workout. If the 3/1 split doesn't work for you, start with 5 minutes walking to 1 minute of running. You'll find what works for you. You know I love John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals book! It always makes me feel positive :goodvibes .

Enjoy your day, dear Erin, and the smiles of your family and all your students and their families! You are surrounded by a community of people who truly value you! :cloud9:

Of course you will! I have nothing but faith in you! :cheer2:

Great job on the strength training. Per Curves the more muscle you have the higher your metabolism becomes. And muscle mass helps process the glucose in your system - which is a real benefit for those on the boderlines of diabetes. Are you still considering joing Curves? I remember you talked about it for awhile. We have a girl in our group who is as skinny as a rail but because of her diabetes she comes in and works out. It helps her stay off medication. She is truly and inspiration - as are you!

Hey, yesterday was another :) :) :) :) :) . I was on my way to 6 and I got distracted by some hard pretzels. Darn it. Oh well, today's a new day!

Edited along the way:
1. Devotions: choose to receive joy. :)
2. Vitamins: :)
3. Water: 24 oz.
4. Exercise: Today's a cross-training day. I'll either strength train or ride my bike for 30 minutes. :) Edit: I ended up riding in the sunshine for 1/2 an hour and remembering how I LOVE MY BIKE!
5. Food: 1/2 an english muffin w/pb and coffee. I think I'm going to eat little meals and snacks today. Food will include 1/2 grapefruit, veggies, yogurt, and salad. Edit: yogurt at 9:45
6. Scale: Back down to 175 this a.m. even with the pretzels. :)

Thanks, Beth, for that vote of confidence. There was a time when I wouldn't have accepted that idea--that if it was important to me I would do it. After the half marathon, though, I have more confidence in my ability to follow through, and I think you're right!

Time to get DD to school and jump into the day. I'll get around to some journals during the day.

I'm glad you like my journal title, Doreen. It's one I think I'll have a long time. :)

Yesterday was another 5 :) day. All except food. I was on track until about 8:30, then I caved to a hard pretzel and a hand full of cheese-its. That's not so terribly bad, but I just can't see clear to giving myself a :) . I think TODAY is my 6 :) day! :Pinkbounc

The plan:

1. Devotions: Nothing can separate us from the love of God. :)
2. Vitamins: :)
3. Water: 8 oz. done
4. Exercise: :) It's a rest day! I hearby award myself a smilie because I'm going to let my body rest and intentionally NOT exercise, though my day will be long and active. My toddler and preschool aged classes keep my hoppin'! (and dancing, and skipping, and running, and crawling. . . :) ) I walked Mickey a half a mile, but I'm not counting that as exercise any more--that's just the routine. Mickey figures on the park now everyday!
5. Food: 1/2 a multigrain english muffin w/pb, coffee, and a glass of milk for breakfast. Snack: 1/2 an orange.
6. Scale: :) Back up to 177. That's what I get for pushing my luck with those darn pretzels.

Today and tomorrow are very full days. I doubt I'll get much journalling done at all. Know I'm thinking about you, though, friends.

Onward and looking Upward--

Hey, everyone--thanks for stopping by. :grouphug: And Beth, thanks for that energizing :wizard: . I'm needing it today.

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins :)
3. Water--had some, need some more
4. Exercise-- :) today has to be another rest day, that's just all there is to it. I'll combine my walk with some bike riding tomorrow.
5. Food--the usual english muffin w/pb, coffee, milk
6. Scale--bagged it this morning. I've got PMS bloat, why add to the misery?

Yesterday was a 6 :) ! :Pinkbounc Today, after skipping the scale, can only be a 5. Have to admit my expectations aren't too high--my main goal is to just get through the day being nice to everyone. Sometimes that's enough. :p

04-29-2005, 08:35 AM
Well, you guys, I got through the day without biting anyone's head off. In fact, I was almost cheery, if you want to know the truth. I think I managed that because DH took me to Panera Bread and I ate everything on my plate. Oh, that and the fact I allowed myself unlimited Hershey's Kisses. :p Oh, yeah, right, I'm prediabetic and am not supposed to eat sweets unless it's a special occasion. . .well, I thought not biting anyone's head off was reason to celebrate! :rotfl:

Seriously, now, in the last couple of weeks since the dr. told me to watch my sugar intake, I've had a small chocolate ice cream and some Hershey's kisses and a mint. That's not too bad, is it? I try to allow myself one treat per week. I think yesterday's dip into the Hershey's stash is my treat for this week. :teeth:

So, we're on our way to school this morning and I find a tick on Mickey's head. DD freaks and jumps into the backseat, thinking, I guess, that the tick is going to embed itself in her head next. The tick, however, calmly munched on the dog until I could remove it at home. Then I found another one, darn it. I'm thinking the dog is completed de-ticked, but now I have to call the vet for some flea/tick medication. This isn't a big deal for most dogs, but mine is so highly allergic to EVERYTHING and his immune system is so weakened from the periodic steroids he has to take, that I'm not sure what he can tolerate. Guess it's the vet's job to figure that one out. . .

Yesterday was a darn long day, but I got through it OK. I even made it through the day without ibuprofen! [In case you didn't know, I've developed some chronic tension headaches this spring and to get through the "long day" without pain relief is a reason to celebrate (hey, pass me a Hershey's kiss! :p ).] I came home, though, had some grape nuts (my favorite comfort food, eaten in a coffee mug while I'm wearing my bathrobe), and crashed in bed to watch Survivor and The Apprentice (both at the same time, unfortunately). I was just wiped out. Today, though, I'm ready to move back to my plan:

1. Devotions :)
2. Vitamins--seemed to have forgotten these.
3. Water--haven't had any yet
4. Exercise--the plan is to do my walk/run this a.m. and then do a half hour of cross training, either weights or bike. Now that I have to take the dog to the vet (or in the very least, get to the vet to pick up meds), I'll be lucky to get in one or the other. If I'm completely honest, I have to admit that I don't want to do either. . .I just want to take a nap, but I know some moderate exercise is really what I need. It may not be what I WANT, but I know it's what I need and I'll feel better afterwards.
5. Food--the usual. Lunch will be light--yogurt and some fruit and cheese. Dinner will probably be pizza, 'cause it's Friday. :cool1:
6. Scale--I know, I know, ignoring it will not make things better, but after yesterday's Panera Bread-fest and the Chocolate Celebration, I figured it was best to just PRETEND I did it and it said 135. :teeth:

So that's the plan for today, April 29, 2005. Here I go!
Erin

Edit #1:
. . .$48 later, Mickey has his meds for the month of May.
. . .I've ridden my bike, but on my way to the park (via way of the vet), I got caught in an hour's worth of traffic and had to bag it and go straight home. :sad2:
. . .I've had 12 oz. of water, my s.f. chocolate pudding :p , tuna and about 6 crackers for lunch.

It's April 30, 2005, and it's grey and rainy here this morning. Not exactly walking outside weather, but I may give it a try if I don't feel like using the treadie. I have a two miler on the training schedule for this afternoon.

Yesterday ended as a :) :) :) :) . No smilie for the scale  or food, unfortunately, but today's a new day and I'm going forward, inspired by Doreen's happiness over her 6 :) . I want that, too!

1. Devotions--God has given us a spirit of power and not of fear. That should be the mantra for my life! :)
2. Vitamins--have to take them
3. Water--have to drink it
4. Exercise--have to walk 2 miles
5. Food--have to eat healthier today. Here's the menu: raisin bran w/banana for breakfast. Yogurt for snacks. Lunch will be a tuna sandwich. Dinner will be ?, but I'll get back here about that later.
6. Scale--no pretending today. I'll get on it before my shower.

Today I'm fat and bloated and am feeling in need of a whoosh. I'm off to have some water! :drinking1

Thanks, Mary, Doreen, and wilderness for stopping by yesterday!
