I am a beginner, 34 yrs, a mother of 2 and I am going to register for the 1/2 marathon. :Pinkbounc
I've been reading the wish board for the last few weeks and have read threads on a Team Canada of wish members from 2005, however, I have not noticed any threads on Canadian members for 2006, if I have missed it someone please put me in the right direction.
This wish forum is awesome and it has given me inspiration to try to get into a healthier lifestyle.
Hope to be here more often

Hi Angela,
The wonderful members of the WISHWALKER 2005 group nicknamed the Canadian WISHers Team Canada. That included my 3 sisters, myself, and Rachel from B.C. There were a lot of Canadians in the marathon, but "Team Canada" was just an unofficial tag from our friends here. Unless one of us wins Loto 649, we won't be participating next year. I have to tell you though, this was one of the best experiences of my life. We met up with many WISHWALKERS and it was quite an amazing time. If you're planning to do the 1/2, I would encourage you to follow the training threads on this board and plan on meeting some of your cyber friends in January. A year ago, my sisters and I (who are all middle-aged, non-athletes with weight to lose) could barely walk 2 miles. After much training, we were able to walk the 13.1 miles. If we can do it, anyone can! Good luck! You can do it! :flower:

Hi Angela! GO for it !!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: I'm one of the "4 sisters from TEAM Canada" too and I "ditto" everything Nancy said. We took along a cheering section of our Mom, 2 DH's, and my DD and DS. They had signs and Canadian flags and lots of runners/walkers yelled "yeah Canada" to THEM as they passed by! Some even stopped to take pictures of my family :rotfl:
There was a gal on the Canadian Boards from Toronto (I want to say Alyssa) and she was considering it I think. And if I win 6/49 or Super7 in the meantime, the sisters WILL be back :teeth:

Hey Angela,
doing the full (maybe with DH - he says he wants to but has only run once since agreeing due to long hours at work lately). I'd love to send words of encouragement back and forth to my fellow Canucks!
Trying to figure out how to get DD (2) there if DH and I are both participating as we will have just returned a couple of weeks earlier with our entire family of 14... doing this with little ones makes it a little more challenging.
Look forward to hearing your updates - come on over to the weekly marathon post!

Thanks for the replies....actually, Nancy & Maryliz your previous posts are the ones I was referring to. I think it was so cool to have have the unofficial nickname Team Canada, even if it was among yourselves. I have my fingers crossed for your 649, heck, might as well spread a little pixie dust for me too :wizard:
Chimera, I had a quick visit over on the training thread, cant wait to go back...thanks for the info, its nice to know there are lots of beginners :)
Alysa, guess what....I registered for the 1/2 marathon this afternoon :teeth: I registered solo, so my dh will have the kids ages 5 & 4, waiting for me at the finish line.
Hope to be here more often, see you all again

Angela, while I am not from Canada, I did do the 1/2 this year. I had never done anything as this before and it was a memorable experience. You CAN do this and if you come over to the weekly post you will find all sorts of support from those experienced, and not so experienced. You will have lots of friends by the time January '06 comes along!
Come often, post lots!
See ya there.
PS--Alysa...get thee to the registration! Don't put it off. It may be filled before you get registered. Go for it!

So, I was lying in bed, and I remembered that I had FORGOTTEN to get my Lotto 649 ticket. I'll try to do better next time! and , since I didn't hear from you yesterday, I can infer that YOU didn't win, either!
Angela, you can do it! It was SOoooo much fun. Mostly. Alysa, get out and make the commitment. Once, you've paid your money, you'll be surprised how motivated that you become.
