View Full Version : Anyone else having solo attendance anxieties?
Every once in a while, I get a twinge of nervousness over going to the convention by myself. My DH says I'm a worrier, so I guess this is where this is coming from. And, I know there will be plenty to keep me busy, but I can't help but wonder what I'll do if there is some dead time and I'm alone while every one else is with groups or family members. I think I have to stop thinking about this!;)

Oh Barb! :( Don't worry....you'll be in good company the whole time! :) I'm a little envious of you solo travelers actually....I think it would be the best way to attend this convention.
When there was a hint of me coming alone...it never really meant alone because DD already had her heart on coming (one of her best friends--DD of Judy from Boise--will be there).....then my DS starting asking when we're going to Disney World (because we had already told him too!!! :( ), so I couldn't just leave them behind. :( That's when I started pressuring DH to come along...and I shortened our trip and as everyone knows already (LOL) I switched from the YC to ASM to help calm his anxieties.
Back to my point  When there was a hint of me coming alone I got sort of excited because I knew I wouldn't be limited by whining, constant potty runs, and the need to go back to the room to have a rest (aka NAP! ;) ).
I hope DH puts on his best 'nanny face' LOL :D
Barb, I have a feeling that all of you 'solo' folk will end up hanging out together and all of us with families are gonna feel left out! ;)

I was a little anxious about this myself, Barb. But then I started visiting this board more often than usual, and starting "meeting" everybody. So now a lot of you people feel like old friends, even though we've not met in person. Every other trip I've had to Disney has been with a friend or relative, and I've catered the trips to their tastes and needs. This time, I feel like I can do everything I want, or even nothing at all.
So don't worry. You'll be in good company! :p

I am not exactly anxious about being solo. I feel a bit anxious about my ability to communicate in English, of being slow to understand, though. I am usually a bit shy and my English varies when it comes to talk. After a while, I guess that the rust will go away.:)

OK..stop this nonsense... :-)...us solo travelers are going to have a ball. I can't wait....Barb...call me if you have dead time...besides...you are probably going to wish you had dead time once we all us solo travelers meet up ad get DIScon going.
I cannot wait to experience WDW alone without kids and DH. I think it is going to be a whole new WDW...things I have never done, been able to do or didnt even know existed. Barb...ya gotta look at it this way.
Bellemom...don't you worry about the language...it certainly isn't going to get in the way of us having fun.
I can't wait to meet you all.
Thanks for the reassurance. You guys are the greatest. :D These are the thoughts that pop into my head in the middle of the night, when mole hills become mountains. ;)
Bellemom, don't worry, we all speak Disney and that's a universal (sorry-not the park) language. :D :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I don't mind being on my own, although I am a bit concerned about being too far from the "action", by staying at PO.
I am really looking forward to meeting all of you!!!!! :)

Snowward, who else is staying at PO? I had the same 'anxious feeling' about moving to the ASMo, but several people have stepped forward and PM'd me saying that they were staying there too! :bounce: Made me feel better. :) I'm sure there are others.....oh, I think ebutte (aka Lisa) and her family will be there. They don't arrive until the 30th though. :( Oh well. At least I thought of someone. ;)

Well Barry, I think you have your answer right here on this thread. ;)
Barry, that was a concern of mine, too. If you read through some of our plans here on this board, we've got some meals taken care of. That made me feel better. You're more than welcome to join us. For example, we've taken an unofficial poll and decided to eat at France for the Dining around the World night. We can't sign up for that until registration, but a lot of us are picking France, so we can be together. For those meals that are unplanned, we can just make sure the solo's are all in a group, so no one will eat alone.
Snowwark, I'm pretty sure Taryn is staying at PO. She was on these boards a lot before, but I haven't seen her her lately. I hope everyhting is alright. I'll have to email her and make sure she's still with us.

I think we need to get together before registration to get our schedules straight...I for one , have not yet decided when or where I want to do stuff. France sounds great, but what about Fantasmic Dessert party or MVMCP...don't we have to get tickets for that soon? When are you all doing this stuff?
disneycub
08-08-2001, 12:41 PM
Tickets for MVMCP go on sale Monday the 13th of August. Candlelight Processional as well. Linda has a pre-registration for the Fantasmic Dessert party on the 30th up toward the top of this board. If you want to go on the 29th, I think that will be taken care of at registration. For the Dining Around the World, that will be taken care of at registration. Some of us are going to sign up to have dinner in France, I believe.
Vanessa, there is a group of us going to MVMCP on Dec. 2. It's not part of the convention anymore, but it seemed like the best time, for me at least, to go to the Christmas Party. As Steve said, a few of us have already preregistered for the dessert party on the 30th. I'm doing the ToT marathon, so the 30th works better for me. And, I am signing up for France for the dining around the world night. I have a rough schedule posted down further on this board. Some others do, too. That may help you get an idea of what we're up to. ;)

Barb - I thought the Fantasmic Dessert Party was followed by 2 hours of ToT - all on the same night. I don't know if you can do the dessert part/Fantasmic viewing one night and the ToT another.
I initially signed up for the Fantasmic party on the 30th so I could attend MVMCP on the 29th. Now that I've extended my stay, I'll do Fantasmic on the 29th, the Drink Around the World (at Epcot, led by SSB) on the 30th, and MVMCP on the 2nd.
Nancy, if I'm reading the schedule right, the ToT marathon is only on the 29th. The Fantasmic party is offered on the 29th and 30th, with 150 people each night. I'm doing the dessert party on the 30th. I don't think I could bounce up and down for 2 hours after eating a lot of sweets. So, I'm planning on the Thrill Ride tour and ToT 'thon all in the same day. Then, the Fantasmic dessert party will be the 30th with the rest of the evening open after Fantasmic. I don't know if I could "drink around the world, after 3 or 4 countries I'd either pass out or throw up! :p :p Can anyone join or is it just the group that did it before?
Tia, what must we seem like to everyone else?????  ROTFL

Well, I know I'd never last at a Drinking Round the World meet. I've never had a drink (or an "adult beverage" in internet-speak) in my life....and at my age, I'm not gonna start now.

The Drink Around the World is open to anyone. I don't drink either, Steve - but I still had a fun time hanging out with the wild folks from Glo-Con! I nibbled my way around the world - with a milk and a virgin pina colada along the way!
Barb - I hope you are right. Guess the convention planners will need a separate pass/ticket for the ToT than for the dessert party/Fantasmic viewing.

What , when and where is the Candlelight procession?
disneycub
08-08-2001, 09:56 PM
The Candlelight Processional is a wonderful Christmas tradition at WDW. It is held each year (late November through Christmas) at Epcot. Basically, a guest narrator (usually a well-known celebrity) tells the Christmas story. He is backed by a full orchestra and around a 400-500 person choir. The choir consists of CMs from around WDW, and high school choirs. The choir (and the Voices of Liberty) sing a number of sacred and traditional Christmas songs. Snow flies, doves fly. It is a truly wonderful experience. Brought many a tear to my eye last year.
Generally you can get a package from WDW for the CP. It includes a full dinner, the presentation, and also 15% off anything you buy in Epcot the day of the CP. I think last year, depending on which restaurant you chose, the price was around $32.50 to $42.50 per person.

I'm not a solo traveler, but I do believe that Taryn is hosting a singles meet on the 28th....possible one on the 27th as well.
And Livia....no matter what....you're definitely a COMMANDO! :D :D :D The important thing is that you realized your mistake/problem before the rest of us did...and you're trying your best to correct it....this is ALL that matters! LOL ;)
LOL, Livia! It's very easy to get confused. We've got so many plans going all at once! There are some of us that are doing the ToT marathon on the 29th, so we're doing MVMCP on Dec. 2 instead. But, we are doing the Fantasmice dessert party on the 30th. And, we did pick France for Dining around the World. So, you're on your way!! :smooth:

Tia & Barb: I working hard to catch up with all of you, pros!!!:D
But we still don't have the schedules for the mini meets. Then we will only have to find a way to stretch our days to, let's say 36hours?
I am planning to to MVMCP on the 29th because I wouldn't profit from the ToT night. Now you are in for a terrible secret...
I don't go for thrill rides! I have never ridden Splash Mountain or BTM. In truth, when I go with the kids we usually do "the mommy swap". Mommy stays outside Star Wars Tours and wait for the kid to come out. Mommy waits outside Body Wars, while kid rides. Pirates of the Caribbean is the ultimate thrill ride for me! I usually bellow my heart out in that short plunge in the dark.:o
Now you all know my secret!
Back to MVMCP, i could possibly do it after my cruise too...
Glo: It is good to be back. I read the reports of Glo-Con and I was sorry not to be able to make it. It seems that you had a wondeful time. I liked that Drinking around the world thing... The kids are fine. DS1, 11, is undergoing exams for junior high... We are all studying hard
:)
Isn't there a way to make time move faster and then slower?

Livia....you and I are going to get along just great! You can keep me company at the EXITS to all of those 'thrill rides' and we'll cheer when the other's get off...LOL :D I don't like any of those things either. DS and I will be at the MK for a majority of the time. :bounce:
I do ride BTM though. I absolutely LOVE it! I'm willing to try Splash....but the other's will probably have to wait until I'm old and forgetful (when I don't remember how scared I am of them....LOL).
BelleMom
08-09-2001, 10:29 AM
Tia: We will keep each other company!
I have been tempted to try Splash Mountain. DSs want to make me believe that it is not that bad as it looks. Do you think we can trust them???
On my first trip ever, I went to ride by mistake the Jetsons thing at Universal. again!
After lunch. I thought it was safe: a cartoon ride should be meant for little kids, so I thought. I remember the panic when the safety bars came down! Three minutes of shaking and looking at the neighbors trying not to get sick! lol
I love to watch rollercoaster, though. I like when the folks get turned upside down.

Splash Mountain is absolutely one of my favorite rides. Not because of the big hill - that's over in seconds. The theming is what makes Splash Mountain so wonderful and charming. You are really missing out if you don't try it at least once.
BelleMom
08-09-2001, 11:10 AM
Last year, I got as far as the entrance of the ride. But as I was getting really close to the thing, I chickened out...
On my first family trip to WDW, the kids and ex-husband convinced me to try BTM on our last day (boy, it was too cold for splash mountain). But the ride broke!!!
Ladies, ladies, ladies! Splash Mountain is nowhere near as bad as it looks. It's that Disney imagery that has you fooled! And, as Steve said the themeing within the ride is the absolute best! You have no idea what you're missing. There are all sorts of animatronics inside with the cutest songs. We'll all ride it together and I'll even hold anyones hand that needs it. Promise :D
Livia, I wish we had the mini meet schedule, too. That would help me plan ahead just a little bit more. I know Linda was working on that, but ran into computer trouble. I'm patiently:rolleyes: waiting for the announcement.:p

I need to start planning.
I'd love to go to splash mountain with you guys.
I don't know if I can keep up with all the thrill rides, but I'll think about it and wait to see what the game plan is.
I think that WDW is the most friendly place to be solo, and especially eating solo. Everyone will be fine. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
I'd like to eat at France on Saturday with you guys and MVMCP on Sunday and CP on Monday. I think that I will do the Fantasmic dessert and ToT on Thursday and I think that I will do DATW II on Friday.
Well, I guess this is the start of my plan.
Of course, I'll change all the plans to attend Luvdsny's Fantasyland mini-meet. Where some of you are afraid to eat solo. I've always been afraid to ride Dumbo or the Caresel alone because I didn't want to take a child's spot or to look too silly.

Well, I'm going to look silly anyway in my Santa Mickey hat and lime green t-shirts, so riding on Dumbo shouldn't faze me too much.
For me, it isn't a matter of being afraid to eat alone, it's just that I eat alone at home all the time (except for Bandit, the mighty wonder dog), and having dinner with new people really appeals to the extrovert in me.
