Disney travel packages tend to cost more than getting each item (room, tickets, etc.) separately. Basically you pay for the convenience. They will occasionally run deals that you can only get as part of a package (get 7 nights for the price of 4), but I haven't seen any of those lately.
Be sure to price out everything separately to determine whether you are really getting a deal. Don't hesitate to check rates with a travel agent. Let them do the work for you. This forum is sponsored by a TA that is rather highly regarded.
There are many reputable third-party ticket dealers. I've purchased from www.ticketmania.com and www.floridaorlandotickets.com. I believe the site is sponsored by www.mapleleaftickets.com, which is also a reputable dealer. If you find a deal that sounds too good to be true, ask about the vendor by name here and you're certain to hear from others who have done business with them.

If you are interested in a package, AAA has the best offer around these days.

If you own a car, AAA is definately worth the annual fee (around 40 to 55 per year depending upon your state). The first month we had AAA, I had to use a tow truck TWO times! Our van has over 130 thousand miles on it. As for other perk discounts, those can be quiet substantial also. We've used it for hotel rooms, non disney park ticket discounts, etc.
You can go to aaa.com and read about the service etc and actually sign up on line. I think you get a little price break for auto renewal with a cc.
I would say it more than pays for itself but I wouldn't buy it just for possible discounts. it's a good product in and of itself.

The cost to join AAA is different for each region. I recently join the Mid-Atlantic AAA for $56 and that was just the "Basic" membership for myself (not including DH) AND it included a $15 discount.
I got it for the road service and trip ticks. We're taking a road trip to SC over Easter break and I wanted the peace of mind it would bring. There are also a lot of local discounts that I can take advantage of.
The room discount that AAA offers depends on the season and level of room. Deluxes are discounted 15% off the rack rate while Values are discounted 20% during Value Season. During peak season, the discounts drop to 10% and 15% respectively.
Given all those variables, only you can determine whether the cost of joining AAA will be more than offset by the savings.
