Hi -

In reading a couple of posts here, I got to thinking.... I thought with EA, you didn't incur an additional charge for an additional driver if that driver was a spouse. Is that true? The ressie is in my name and CC, but DH usually does the driving. We leave on Sat, so we don't have enough time to get DH an EA card.

Thanks!!

That is what Nat'l told me. If you are an Emerald Club member there is no add'l charge for your spouse.

From what I understand, and you can double check this on the National website, the spouse needs to have an EC in their name and a credit card in their name also.

I also called the EC Customer Service # listed on National's website to ask if there was an additional charge for my husband as a second driver since I am the one who is the Emerald Club member and he isn't. I was told by the customer service rep that there would be no additional charge - " the fee is waived for spouses".

Thanks everyone!!! I actually was able to get DH an EC number, so I now have all my bases covered. We'll see if they ask for it and I'll post my finding when I return... ONLY 2 more days!!!!

We went in Oct. and I was the only EA member. We put my dh on as additional driver at the check out stop (he was already sitting in the drivers seat) and there was no additional charge.

As a side note, I called National 2 weeks ago and asked them (very nicely) to please send me a EA Agreement for my husband so he too can have an EA card and asked them to waive the fee. They did without blinking an eye. We already have the card.

Yesterday I went back on to National's site and was able to get even a better rate than before with taxes and charges all included, 1 free day and Capt. One discount, I got a final rate of $135 for 8 days. I also have AAA but don't know what the discount code number is. I will have to do some research and see if I can do better but I do like what I already have. :)
