Different : What don't you like at disney?
Thought I would post something different, all the other post ask what do we like?
So I'm courious on what you guys don't like about the parks or maybe a character? or maybe a place to eat?
For me it would have to be Boma's at dinner. did not care for it at all, but I loved their breakfast.
Also would like to see buses at the VWL during the rainy months for the Magic Kingdom.

The noise level. It seems like all the rides and movies and attractions are set to HIGH volume---at an overkill level. What's up with that? By the end of the day my ears are ringing and I'm looking for someplace where it's quiet.

Adults pushing in front of my children when we have been waiting for the parade or one of the nighttime shows. ESPECIALLY when they push out for the parade to see around the next person beside them and then almost totally block ANY view my two sons might have. We actually try to let children in front of us if possible. I know I can see of my son's heads, why can't some of those other potatoheads figure it out?

The fact that Disney sometimes seems to be one continuous commercial advertising itself over and over. This may not be as bad as it used to be, or maybe I just ignore it more.

Trying to work in attractions between shows with a set schedule.
The COST!

People who spoil the magic. No the rest of us don't want to hear you have a fight with your SO and yelling at your child about how much this is costing you so she better have a good time will just make her cry! Trying to "take advantage" of Disney is bad too, you know the ones who lie that they spilled thier drink to get a free one when they never bought the drink in the first place.
(Not to mention the dad who hauled off and SLUGGED his kid across the top of the head. I wish I had been fast enough to think to call the cops I was too shocked to move! My parents spanked me but this was just abuse.)

OK, now for the sacralige, while I LOVE LOVE LOVE WDW ... I don't really care for Mickey and Minnie, I sort of like Pluto and Goofy. Donald is OK.
I never liked Mickey even as a kid. Never liked the Mickey cartoons. I thought they were boring. I always felt that he couldn't compare with (gasp) Bugs Bunny.

well, i really don't like that its in Florida. Why couldn't Walt have built it in, say, Connecticut? :earboy2:
While I disagree with Ian on Mickey, Minnie, and Donald, I do agree that Pluto is nothing special. And Goofy...he and I have a tumultuous relationship. I love his old cartoons (the "instructional" movies) but now I think he's gotten rather dumb and that outfit....so so hideous! :p It's always chaotic when I run into him at WDW! But seriously, Goofy's not a bad guy.

Hate the buses and will do most anything to avoid them. I prefer walking from BWV through Epcot to the Monorail to TTC and switching to MK monorail even though the bus is probably faster (and certainly less walking). WDW is supposed to be Magical, buses don't feel the least bit magical to me. Every now and then when I am forced to take a bus (like to DD or TL) I get a great driver that does make the trip more special, but it's still not the monorail.
Also dislike lines (fastpass is my friend!), people who push ahead of you in lines, bathrooms that are not clean (this was unheard of not too long ago), people who are really loud as they walk through the halls late at night, overkill on merchandising, attractions that are only open during busy times (which means I never get to see them since I only travel at less crowded times). And ITA with those who can't stand seeing parents screaming at their poor overloaded kids.

Well...I am getting a little tired of "stitch" invading EVERYTHING!! He's not my favorite.

Simple: The cost and the fact that everything is so commercialized.
The first time I went I couldn't understand why anybody would want to go to this oversized mall. Of course, it didn't help that it was in late July with temperatures in the upper 90s to lower 100s and that you had to wait almost 2 hours for some rides. A trip at Xmas time changed my opinion.

If you love people, which I do, then anything at Disney, even waiting in line can be enjoyable and, yes, entertaining. I love watching people have a great time and I really enjoy watching people have a "moment" of meltdown. (I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.)
The only thing that can ruin a moment for me at WDW is a smoker. Sorry if you are one and you've lived with all the restrictions placed on your lifestyle. But even if you're outside in a spot that traffic has to tunnel through or by, those little smoke particles catch onto my clothing, hair, etc. and I can smell it all day. My allergic reaction kicks in and irritated eyes and lungs city, baby.
Smokers aren't bad people, their habit just kills me.

Wow - my DH doesn't like the busses either and I thought he was odd for not liking them. I guess he isn't alone!
We always rent a car and drive it more and more on property. With the valet included with DVC, it makes it very convienent.
Although the price we are paying to rent during President's week is a bit steap, it is making him happy.

Well, I like the busses and talking to folks in line and while waiting for parades. I like saving a curbside seat for the parade and then at the last minute, giving it up to a small child who can't see. I even like the loud music! What I CAN'T tolerate are people who ignore the smoking rules and subject those of us who become ill from it to their habit, and loud abusive folks who probably should not have spent the money on the trip.

people are angry and rude in WDW, while I am so very happy. Unfortunately common sense and courtesy are lacking everywhere, so the world cannot escape it.
But the real thing that makes me crazy is that WDW is in Florida. I want to live in Florida and its not happening!!!!

I am sitting here thinking and thinking and thinking and I cannot think of ANYTHING I dislike about WDW!! They do it soooooo well. We went to DLP for New Year, boy do they have a lot to learn about doing things the Disney way. It's like they are playing at being a Disney park, sorry for those of you who love it there. Many of you would be shocked to see the smoking EVERYWHERE (in restaurants, in lines..) and the lack of organisation. Living here in England DLP is ok for a quick Disney fix but a very poor comparison to the 'real' thing.
I suppose the only thing I don't like about WDW is that it takes us over 8 hours on a plane to get there. No quick, impromtu trips for us!

1. Crowd dispersion/time killing techniques: shows that overlap so you can't get from one to the next, routing you the long way whenever possible, and those buses! I hate that you can't just get from one park to the next easily, always have to leave an hour earlier than you think.
2. Summer heat in Orlando. I'd love to visit WDW in summer, but I won't!

And for those of you who don't like dirty bathrooms part of this is your fellow travelers fault. Every year it seems that people get worse. Do they think Disney follows them around with a personal flusher??? You KNOW those women didn't go in that stall looking if it looked like that so WHY did they leave it a mess? Why do they consider putting TP all over the floor a right?

CarolA I agree that people should flush and not make a mess in bathrooms, but I don't think people get messier every year. I hate to say it but there will always be slobs among us, regardless of color, creed, class, sex, or any other group you can think of.
There used to just about always be someone in every ladies room cleaning up after the thoughtless folks. I remember being amazed the first time I went to a bathroom in a busy WDW restaurant, the sink area looked to have been wiped down dry just before I entered, and looked the same way when I took my daughter in later on. There was no TP on the floor or unflushed bowls (well I didn't do an official bowl check, but years ago I never went into a stall that had that issue).
While I don't excuse slobs, I truly think the bathrooms are not staffed the way they used to be, and this is why they are dirtier than they were in the past.

During our trip last week I did not see an attendant once in the pit stops I took. I did find the bathrooms dingy. On the bright side, my DD9 left her very well used Minnie fanny pack in the bathroom by Space Mountain. We got a call the next morning-they had it in Lost and Found.
We rode Disney busses a lot. I really enjoyed talking to other guests and hearing their adventures, where they are from, etc. One guest commented how nice the people from Louisiana were, someone had given her some Mardi Gras beads. My husband (who insisted on spending the day before we left for WDW in New Orleans seeing the Thoth and Bacchus parades) did not miss a beat, reached in his jacket pocket and came out with a doubloon. The lady was stunned.
I love the change in my daily routine. Can anyone tell me why it is that I have no problem waking up early in WDW to hit the parks but at home I am dragging to get my older kids up and off by 6:30 am? I love having the most critical decision being where to eat, and what time or what ride to go on first.

Agree on too loud and agree on exiting into gift shops.
Dislike (and I know people disagree) young children - particularly misbehaving ones - in fancy restaurants and any young children at all on Pleasure Island. I'd prefer more adults only areas in WDW. (I have two little children who I adore, but we don't take them out to fancy dinners or to nightclubs).
Don't like hearing the Richard Petty driving experience. Too loud and you can hear it from what seems like miles away - spoiling magic.
Don't like that ugly Epcot sign over Spaceship Earth. Apparently the huge geosphere wasn't distictive enough? Hated the patched up landscaping and plywood walls they had around it for years.
Don't like Disney's "policy management." Set rules, stick to them guys! If five in a room is OK, say so. If it isn't, enforce it. If smoking in a non-smoking room is ok, don't have non-smoking rooms. If you are going to have ns rooms, enforce them. If CMs see line hoppers, they should be pulling them to the back of the line, not ignoring them.

I get tired of all the rules too. As well as the rule breakers! What to do?? Maybe just make rules for everyone but ME. :cool1:
I wish there were a better way to deal with parade seating. It gets to be quite a mess! and tempers (including mine) can flare. My answer is to get seats upstairs at the train station about 2 1/2 hrs before the parade, right at the railing, and then look down on the whole show from above the fray. :goodvibes

I don't like the slow and noisy busses,
also don't like the cattle shuts they are putting people thru these days (I know security), but I still think it could be done better.
Untrained CMs. Not necessarily their fault, but new programs being rolled out without any training. (Example - DDE, MYW, etc).

I know exactly what you mean snappy, we're not morning people either, but WDW gives us that happy boost too. We like to get going early and then come back and take a break, recoup, and then back again late afternoon/early evening.
And boy do I relate to that last sentence--it's so nice to immerse yourself in the magic and forget your daily troubles. I'm so glad I bought into DVC, now when we aren't actually at WDW we are planning our next visit. WDW is like therapy for me, a trip there really recharges me. I don't think the average person understands what I mean, but I know most of the people on the DIS boards do. :cloud9: :wizard: :goodvibes :flower: :cheer2: :smooth:
I don't like people smoking where they know they are not to smoke and the CM's not doing anything about it.
I don't like showing up for a parade to get a good spot only to have a parent with children show up 10 min. before and expect you to surrender your spot to not only their children but to them as well.
I don't like the new Esiner feel of the parks. I remember the parks back when..
But we still love WDW and continue to go as often as we can..smjj

Some good ones have been mentioned, like the busses. They're better than nothing, and for us, better than driving, but still, I don't think they are what Walt had in mind...
Untrained CMs is another one. Not their fault usually, its just that the training isn't what it used to be.
The gift shops after rides only bother me if they are an out of place obstruction. If its themed and the aisles are reasonable, I don't mind. (Unfortunately most have aisles that are too narrow, making it difficult to escape, er, get through.)
To me, the problems with saving seats at parades and such is a direct result of the limited scheduling. Lining up for Spectro wouldn't be nearly the ordeal if it were held more often.
Of course there's the rude guests and unruly kids, but really, I think they makeup a very small minority. Its just that the hundreds of well-behaved fun loving people around us don't usually catch our attention. I'll gladly put up with the out of control kid here and there (even in a "nice" restaurant) if it means there are a whole bunch of others around enjoying the "magic".
All in all, though, even the things that I don't agree with don't bother me while we are there.

Your post made me laugh. I have not seen women pee standing up since college. We all did it then, trust me, you did NOT want to sit down on the seats in those college bars. There could have been ANYTHING on those seats! As an "adult" however, I wish everyone kept the bathrooms at WDW cleaner. I hate seeing kids unrolling the paper and splashing water and parents ignoring it.
I don't mind the buses. We have had some great times with bus drivers bringing us home from DTD singing with all the kids on the bus and making us all laugh.
Kids in more expensive restaurants doesn't bother me either. As long as they are generally well behaved. Why should the parents not get to eat there just because they have kids? Besides, they have V&A. Even on my honeyoom, I expected kids everywhere. After all, it is Disney World! :flower:

Hmmmmm.
1. I know many will find this odd, but DW and I always have trouble finding somewhere to eat dinner. We're neither cheap nor are we "meat and potatoes only" folks, but so many WDW restaurants don't live up to their promise or aren't worth the money ('Ohana is about the only exception). We either end up food-courting it, or - when we get sick of burgers & chicken strips - we drive off-site to somewhere like Outback, where we can get the same food for $10 / meal less.
2. This I'm not proud of, but I dislike it when those who don't plan ahead show up for something (show, parade, meal, etc.) and try to get the same results as those of us who did. I'm talking about showing up last minute and standing in front of children who've been sitting patiently for Spectro for an hour, showing up at a popular restaurant and trying to get in ahead of those with PS, cutting in line at CP in December). Needless to say, I think DVC ressies should be blocked out at ressie time ;).
3. People who "game the system" to the extreme. I know that Disney is very inconsistant about the rules, but - IMHO - there's a reasonable limit. And I know this is subjective (was it George Carlin who said that "every one who drives slower than me is a moron, and everyone who drives faster than me is an idiot"?)
FTR, I have no problems with the buses. Growing up in Detroit, where mass transit is heresy to The Big Three and the UAW, riding a bus somewhere is one more attraction - but I get a kick out of the parking trams, too! :rotfl2:

We may be in the minority on this one Dr Tomorrow, but ITA about WDW food. I think the restaurants, since they have to appeal to the masses, tend to leave out spices and strong flavors. While the food is not awful in most full service restaurants, I find it pretty bland for the most part. I don't rent a car when I go, so I can't go offsite unless I pay for a cab, and we like to have a few sitdown meals while we're there. So we end up choosing by ambiance more frequently then taste. If we're having fun we care less about the food being boring. :wave2:

I hadn't really thought of food as being one of the low points! It probably explains why we use our stove decoration so much.
At the places I love to eat at WDW it's the atmosphere and staff I love rather than the actual stuff I'm ingesting!!!

There's not much we don't like, but the volume levels for just about everything are WAY too high. We have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, and even in the "zero scare factor" attractions, the noise level alone scares her.
Loud noise in appropriate places in a program is fine, but that's not what you get. You get volume levels from a low of WAY too loud, to painful, to downright deafening.
I can understand the volume being up outside, but inside attractions it detracts greatly from the ride. It is so bad in some of the attractions that it actually makes them uncomfortable and completely non-enjoyable for anyone with any hearing at all. I can't imagine working in those attractions all day!

The one thing I don't like about Disney (whether it be the parks, the rooms, the ships, the menus, the brochures, the surveys, etc.) is the, in my opinion, overuse and abuse of the word "magical". Frankly it annoys me. I have wonderful vacations at their resorts. Disney is many wonderful things. It may even be "enchanting" at times. But magical?

Just guessing on the volumes, but I would think that in some cases it needs to be loud to mask the noise of the ride mechanism and maintain the illusion. Most of them were too loud for our 2-year old, but by the time he was 3, it was no longer much of an issue. I really think that if they turned it down, it would disappoint more people than it pleased. (That's not to discount anyone's opinion, just trying to give a reason for the way it is)

And I'm a mixed drink kind of girl, so I really spend a lot of cash. :rotfl:
Here's a little trick to get around that. At most Disney resort bars if you order a double it is only a $1 or $2 more. So instead of paying for singles at $5 or $6 you can get a double and be doubly happy for only a few more bucks. :drinking1

Badgering pool life guards who are safety zealots and are determined to remove the fun from the pools. When you and your kid are the only ones in the pool, these guards still feel the need to tell you that you can't put your kid on your shoulders, after all they may get hurt falling 2 feet into the pool. Where are the safety police for the piggy-backing
parents in the parks, where the kid could fall six feet to the concrete?? If it's not crowded, etc. ease up on the rigidity.
I'm not going to be PC here but...the over-use of electric scooters, by to many who would benefit themselves more by not using them.
C+ quality of park food. We almost always go to the resorts for our "nice meal".

Non smokers who give me dirty looks when I am clearly in a "designated smoking area" . Parks are who knows how many thousands of acres completely smoke free, just asking to be left alone to kill myself slowly in my measly 100 square feet of space.

I hate that transportation costs (car, bus, plane, train) are too high from Michigan to Florida for me to be able to visit WDW more often than once a year. Wouldn't it be great if MS could come up with a better deal than we can get on Expedia or elsewhere on the web?
I hate that the only directions from WDW to VB that are given by customer services always include the toll road. (I know ... why complain about $2.75? You'd have to realize that there are NO toll roads in Michigan.)

I had no idea that all states did not have toll roads. I'm so used to them being from New Jersey. I couldn't even go to the mall without paying a toll. It cost DH about $5 a day to get to work. Pa has less of them. I've only encountered them on the Turnpike!

Thank the court system for this one! I used to be a lifeguard. Do you know what kind of damages are awarded for stupidity. (ie. I put the kid on my sholders in the pool and then dumped him onto the concerte beside the pool and now I want MILLIIONS in pain and suffering because you allowed me to do this!)
As a former lifeguard I truly admire Disney's guards. They do a great job in a situation where there are a lot of variables (no, Suzie can't swim a lick, but let her go down the slide and drown. Honey, I can swim just fine after 20 doubles at the bar!)

I never saw a toll road until I went to the east coast and came across tolls in Pennsylvinia, NJ, NY, Delaware, and Maryland. I believe, but I could be mistaken, there is a toll going across the bridge connecting the upper portion of Michigan with the lower portion. In general, you are more likely to see toll roads in the states that I listed than in western states. The irony is that the western states, given the size of the states, probably have more highway mileage than do the eastern state in which there are toll roads. Go figure! Three are a few toll roads in Florida but they can be easily avoided. Of course, avoiding them adds addition time to get to your designation and gas.

I dislike that all the old attractions on Main Street, the penny arcade, etc., were taken out so that main street is now wall to wall disney store.
And, I also hate the buses, will not stay in a resort that is not accessible to parks on foot, monorail, or boat.

I don't particularily care for the busses. While I don't feel the waits are too long, what I hate is the mass exodus and standing room only on the busses going back to the resort at the close of the day. This is the last thing I feel like doing (being herded like cattle) after I've been walking and standing in lines all day. So I will say, we do often prefer our car especially during busy times. I can be assured of getting a seat without having to push and shove, and a nice leisurely ride "home". Lately our plan has been to just sit at Casesy's and enjoy a hotdog while everyone rampages for the busses. Usually about 45 min after the fireworks have ended, it's safe to begin exit maneuvers without being trampled.
Also, now that we pretty much are having a tough time taking our kids out of school for our WDW trips, we have to do the summer thing. It's hard to get used to the heat and crowds together, but we haven't much choice. They just missed too much work that had to be made-up this past Fall. I WISH Disney would install more fans/water spritzers for when everyone has to wait in those long lines for attractions. The MK, particularily, could use some during the summer. I guess Disney feels it might take away from the ambience of the park though ?
I hate having to wake up at the crack of dawn if you want to go to a waterpark during the summer. On 2-3 occassions over the past couple of years we found the water parks closed due to capacity by 10 am. I think Disney needs another water park ! Obviously the two they have are getting very good use.
Oh, yes....and now bathrooms. Add me to the list. We encountered feces on the floor of the bathroom at the Toy Story Pizza place in MGM. We used the bathrooms twice during an hour time and it was still there when we left. Just gross.....other bathrooms we encountered had toilet paper everywhere or the sink area was soaking wet. Really gone downhill over the years.
Can we just once run a thread that doesn't evolve into a smoking debate? For the time being its legal. Deal with it. Put some Vicks Vapor rub under your nose.
Hmmm ? And putting the Vicks under my nose assures me of not getting tar and nicotine in my lungs ? Or my child from having an allergy attack    I don't particularily want to get into a smoking debate either, but just didn't get that comment from Par8hed ?

Although there are many things I don't like about Disney, there are 100 I do like for each one.
1. I don't like the cost of things. Too expensive but we pay it any way.
2. I don't like there isn't a food court at OKW, but we love Goods
3. I don't like I can't pool hop to ALL the pools.
4. I don't like people who think the rules don't apply to them.
5. I think many of the attractions are too loud.
7. I don't like WDW isn't smoke free.
Not necessarily in this order.

I'm curious, because after a long day/night at the MK, I'll gladly wait at the bus stop to SSR to avoid: the monorail/ferry to the parking lot; the tram ride to the car (I do like the trams, but not when I'm sleepy); the walk to the car; the wait in line to get out, and the curvey.twisty.turney WDW roads at night. Now DW - whether it's the car or the bus - simply settles in for a leisurely (and maybe snore-y ;)) ride "home"....

I think that the only thing I may really dislike at WDW could possibly be the looooong lines. Yes I use FP whenever possible and it 's a lifesaver. Early Access hours are nice too but not all the favorite rides are open that early. And with young children in tow, staying in the parks after they close sometimes isn't an option either.
But I really like the system over at US/IOA. Front of the Line Access for all who stay on site there.
Realizing that it would almost be impossible to allow "front of the line access" to all who stay on-site at WDW, I would love some sort of "add on" to passes of guests staying on site. This would allow people to act as if they had FP all day long. Or even during certain periods of the day would be nice. Unfortunately we are presently locked into summer vacations. So we don't know what it's like during the non-peak times when there are no long lines, or wait times under 10 minutes . :cloud9:
Oh well....I guess I can dream.... :rotfl2:

Interestingly enough although I feel like I eat waayyy more than usual when I am at WDW I never gain weight when I go. I think it's all the walking, as, except for a 2-3 hour midday break I rarely sit still when I'm there. And I think nothing of criss crossing the MK (or any other park, but it particularly applies to the MK) multiple times to use FP efficiently to cut down on wait times. Also, I have no patience for bus waits, especially when they stop at other resorts on the way from BWV. So I walk to and from MGM and Epcot almost all the time (granted BWV-Epcot is no great hike, but it's still adds to the walking). Someday I must get a pedometer, since I feel like I walk at least 10 miles a day at WDW!

In fact, my list for why I "like" Disney is way longer :teeth: :cool1:

And I totally can understand your reason for asking. We do Disney busses/our car about 50/50. It's really the end of the day where I hate being literally pushed out of the park. Actually, it's a little bit more of a hike to get to the busses at Epcot (i.e.) than it is to get to our car. For some reason we always seem to stand on our way home. Now I love "going" to the park on the busses, but going home I just prefer to drive. I know...can't have it both ways. And, yes, I do the driving 1/2 the time. We truly don't mind driving around WDW. We've been so many times that we've totally got it down. I just don't find the ride home on the busses at the end of the day as relaxing as many others would.
