View Full Version : BCV Missing Spaceship Earth?????

OK, now I know I'm NOT going crazy. When the BCV literature was first coming out, one of the pictures showed Spaceship Earth beyond the window. And on the website in the virtual tour - the three photos of the room - it USED TO BE there in the master bedroom photo!
Take a look, it's gone! It's apparently been airbrushed out. I know it used to be there - I showed it to my grandchildren!
I'm going to go find my literature with that photo. I won't be able to sleep until I do.
This falls in line with the new "no Epcot View request" policy!
That's pretty freaky!!!!
Now, I'm a little worried!!

OMG! That is just too weird, especially since someone posted here the other day that they show SE on the website so they should allow us to make that request. Big brother really is reading!
I went to the virtual tour, you are not loosing it, that is the exact picture minus spaceship earth!

I hope other things don't start disappearing too! Good "pick up" kathleena. Terry S, it does make you think that someone is looking over our shoulders, doesn't it?
(Just in case, have I mentioned lately that non smoking should be a guaranteed category of rooms?-hint-hint-hint).;)

I'd laugh standing up...but, the smoke from "the HA smoking room that I was assigned even though I requested otherwise is sucking too much of my energy!!!" Read that one, big Mickey brother!!!

Thank you for confirming that I'm not nuts!
There is definately something very strange going on here with that view. Either they are about to build a big curtain :rotfl: or brick up all the windows :sunny: or create a really huge attraction :goodvibes or they are just fed up with the view request problems.
Who knows - maybe so many people saw that one photo that they expected SE in the view and then when they saw the road or the trees or the fairy ring they really had a fit!

That is a little strange!! When they say no EPCOT view THEY MEAN IT!!!
I wonder if anyone can get the scoop on what's really going on.

News Flash: Spaceship Earth was used as a golf ball by giant aliens--you know, the same aliens who are smart enough to cross interstellar space but are too dumb to find a parking space on Earth unless somebody cuts crop circles for them. The aliens scored a par 3, and the geodesic ball now rests underwater somewhere off the coast near Tampa.

Good catch, Kathleena! It does look eerie but only if you know what used to be there. :confused3
BTW, I first tried to look for the picture at the WDW site. It still lists an Epcot view for BCV...."Admire the icons and attractions of Epcot from your villa." Maybe we can take a big picture of SE and tape it to the window for old times sake. ;)

Yeah, and if mousekeeping is as bad as everyone keeps posting, maybe no one will notice and then ALL rooms can be "Epcot view"!!!!

Hey, big brother - I second the guarantee for non-smoking and non handicap rooms! :earboy2:

Do you think Disney would do something TO Spaceship Earth??? Perhaps thats why it won't be in the view anymore???? :guilty: :sad2: :sad2:

I totally think that everyone saw that picture in the original literature and made the wrong assumption that "their" room will always have a view of SE. That probably lead to EVERYONE requesting the Epcot view and that it approached insanity.
I think that is a more logical reason that some giant brick wall going up on the Epcot side. I mean really, do they think we are all that gullible? If they aren't accepting that request, they should at least tell the truth and not some far fetched reason.
While you are at it...I think I third or fourth the non-smoking guarantee! Make me happy with that so I know my room will meet that very important request. And if I can't have it, tell me at the time I am reserving so I can decide if I want to change my travel dates and not have to deal with a possible smoking issue.

I agree. Putting those pictures in sales literature probably led to unrealistic expections and problems at the front desk. Does the Soarin' building now block part of the view? There probably are not enough Epcot view rooms to create a separate category like they did at BWV.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that that picture was fake. It appeared before they had even gotten very far along on the actual BCV. It is possible that it was an accurate picture from the models on the lower level at the BWV sales center, but even that I think was false as I recall.

I agree with you Doctor P that the picture was "created." It has now just been modified.
I think most people on this thread were just having fun. There have always been limited rooms with a Spaceship Earth view but many more that face the Lands. Soarin' does at least partially block the view of SE for some rooms now. From the beginning, when I would make a reservation and request Epcot side, I would be told that there were very few rooms with that view. Well, actually probably half the rooms at least have an Epcot view...just not a SE view. I just like anything on that whole side.
There is a rumor about a new ride for Canada that would involve building mountains. Folks have been speculating that between Soarin" and the mountains, SE and Illuminations will be blocked for so many rooms.
I will still request that side when I can. I love looking at the landscaping and don't like looking at a pool.

Created or not, that pic has definitely been modified from the one sent with the BCV marketing materials... (I'm SUCH a packrat!) :teeth:
Anyone else bothered by the fact that something used to SELL BCV is then airbrushed OUT of current materials? :scratchin

I'm certain this has to do with the removal of the Epcot View.
When I questioned MS about this (Twice!) Here is the second response I received...
Thank you for your recent message.
I apologize that the information ****** provided in her reply was not helpful to you. Member Services is still accepting requests for specific views/room locations as we have done in the past.
Due to the construction of "Soarin'" that will open at Epcot later this year, the view of Spaceship Earth and IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth fireworks that once existed at Disney's Beach Club Villas no longer exists. The rooms in this area are now considered a garden/woods view since the Soarin' show building now blocks the view of Spaceship Earth. If you would like to receive a room in this general area of the resort, you are able to request a room that ends in either -53 through -77. For example, rooms on the first floor would be 153 - 177, second floor would be 253 - 277, etc. In case you are not aware, there are five total floors in this section of the resort.
Thank you again for your message. We are glad you are a Member of our Disney family and look forward to entertaining you for years to come.
Sincerely,
Carli ********

So, there IS a way to request rooms on that side of the resort... Strange that they would suggest using room numbers though....

It seems to me that DVC is trying to adjust people's expectations so that fewer are disappointed as Soarin' and other possible attractions go up. Not being a "view" nut myself, anyway, I can't see what's wrong with that. I'd have problem with the reverse: if Soarin' blocked the Epcot view but their advertisements continued to imply that many rooms can see Spaceship Earth.

Me too. ::yes::
Tagrel, thanks for posting the reply you received. I think the even #s in that sequence would be in that general area of the buiding as indicated but I believe those rooms face the pool. I think it is only the odd numbered rooms in that wing that are on the Epcot side.
I think my point is this..."Why go to all the trouble and expense to change the view?" That really took effort. That makes me a little worried.
But, I also agree with other posters here. It is VERY bad of them to post the Epcot view in their sales photos, and now take them out!!! DVC members (and anyone else know that Soarin' is going up, that it is huge, and that it will obstruct some views)...but, some views are still there, and some rooms still have views of SSE...what's the problem with allowing people to request it?
And, to tell people to request by room number? That's something DVC has always said NOT to do.

Beca, DVC had no control over what happened to the view. Depending on how many rooms were affected and how much the view has (and will) disappear, it probably makes sense to lower expectations IMHO.

I think I mis-spoke on my last post....by "all the trouble to change the view" I meant the view in the picture. Maybe it's just me, but just because one room at BCV (the coveted _57 room) has a beautiful view off SSE centered outside the balcony window (and, doctored or not...this is a REAL view unless tagrel doctored his photos as well...(just a joke there tagrel)), I do not expect that I will get that view EVERYTIME I go...or, in fact...ever!!!
It just means that it is a possibility. My point is (and, what is scaring me a bit), it costs time and money to remove that from the photo on the website. Why go to all that trouble, when you could just say, "Those views are very limited." Wouldn't it be kind of like DVC telling people that Boardwalk view rooms were no longer a category you could request because there were a "statistically small number of them when compared to the total number of rooms at BWV". Couldn't MS just add to the BCV spiel..."You have requested an Epcot view, be advised there are VERY few of these rooms, and even fewer with unobstructed views. Requests are just that, requests...we will do what we can, but cannot guarantee any view request at BCV."
As of this moment, there ARE Epcot view rooms at BCV, but from what posters have said (on other threads), they are being told by MS that there are no rooms that overlook Epcot...that's just weird!!! And, to go to all the trouble to "remove" the beautiful landmark from the photo....even stranger!!!
Maybe I am innately suspicious....but, I just don't like it!!!

No, I understood you meant the picture. But I probably wasn't clear. I meant that when DVC marketed BCV, DVC probably had no idea that Soarin' was going to be built. DVC certainly had no control over whether it was built. I was just trying to address that.
I'm computer challenged, but I didn't think it was that hard to change an image on a website?
I imagine in the long run, Soarin' will actually help BCV since it sounds like it will be such a draw.
Didn't realize _57 was a coveted #. I had a room in the 60's, I think, with a drop dead gorgeous view of SE.

Got it!! Well, maybe removing pics is easier than I know of...I am DEFINITELY computer illiterate!!
I guess I am just being paranoid!! I have wanted BCV for awhile now, and I just passed ROFR on my first BCV contract (I have 3 more about to go into ROFR as well). It just makes me nervous to see so many changes going on.
I'm actually "not happy" with the "grab and go" food place going in!! (I know I am in the minority on this one!) But, I LOVED that gift shop!!! When we were staying at the BWV, we would take the extra 5-7 minutes each way to walk over to the BCV gift shop whenever we needed anything. Now, part of it was just to "go" to BCV since we fell in love with it. But, part of it was just because of the "size" of that gift shop, and how relatively "uncrowded" it was....DH found a pin that had LONG been sold out!!! I just don't want to lose part of that space, and also add the "atmosphere" of a food place in that gift shop. Besides, I thought "grab and go" at BCV was "Beaches 'n Cream"!!! ;) Okay...I KNOW it gets really crowded, and I KNOW people don't like walking to to B&C to get their mug refills....but, I just really liked it all the way it was!!
And, now that I actually own there...to take away Epcot views....I'm just so sad!!!
I'm getting of my soapbox now!!! ;)

Congratulations on passing ROFR and welcome home!!! :grouphug:
I hope on your first stay, you get one of those great SE earth. :sunny:
I liked that gift shop as well but I'm hoping that it is still as nice when it's done and I am one of those who thought Y&BC/BCV needed more quick options than currently available.
Good luck with your other ROFRs and Howdy, neighbor!

Thanks!! I'm just a little BCV obsessed, right now!!! :earboy2: We bought at a couple of other DVC properties (which we have now put up for sale). We didn't think we would like BCV....but, we TOTALLY fell in love with it...now, getting points there is ALL I can think about!!! I'll be happy when the ROFR process is over for me, and I can just start planning my vacations!!!
